This document introduces social media and its use at the International Livestock Research Institute. The document contrasts traditional media controlled by companies with social media that is defined by user participation and user-generated content through various tools like blogs, wikis, social bookmarking, RSS feeds, and social networking sites. It advocates that organizations like ILRI should engage users on their own terms by using social media tools and sharing content across platforms to increase participation and sharing of ideas.
