Introduction to Livestock in a Changing Landscape
This document provides an overview of the collaboration between multiple institutions to produce an assessment of the global livestock sector called "Livestock in a Changing Landscape". The assessment aims to take a comprehensive look at the drivers of change in the livestock sector, the environmental, social, and health consequences, and potential responses. Challenges addressed in the assessment include balancing the livelihoods of millions who depend on livestock with environmental sustainability and equitable development as the sector continues to undergo rapid changes globally.

- Today we present a new comprehensive assessment of the global livestock sector I will give a brief overview of the background and process that have resulted in this unique publication
- Livestock systems are very diverse. Among the biggest contrasts are between developed and developing country sectors, but even within these there is also considerable variation. Dramatic contrasts exist in the livestock sector in relation to social/livelihood issues, health and the environment, and in the trade offs between these dimensions.
