Things Fall Apart Imperialism Essay
While there are many novels written about white colonization in Africa, Chinua Achebe s Things
Fall Apart illustrates the views of not only the Nigerian people in Igbo but also the white
imperialist side of the story. Achebe wrote the novel as a response to other books about the
colonization of Africa, which were typically written by white men. Joseph Conrad, among many
other authors wrote African characters as less intelligent and primitive humans who were better off
after the colonization of Africa. Achebe shows the reader that the people of Igbo had a fully
functioning civilization with a developed religion, language, and political system. They were not
just a helpless, uneducated civilization waiting for someone to come and reconstruct... Show more

He settles this dispute by going to Mbaino and commanding them to send Umofia a virgin and a
young man or else they will go into war. The white colonists may have viewed this exchange as
unnecessary and would have just killed or locked up the person who murdered the tribesman.
Also, in Igbo culture for a man to be called a real man, he must have at least two wives. Unlike in
Umofia, the white settlers believe that polygamous marriages are a sin due to their practice of
Christian values. What was seemingly normal to the Igbo culture was shamed in European culture
which is why the colonists attempted to spread their religion and reduce the amount of sins being
committed. Umofia had a strong belief system with ancestral spirits. During the Week of Peace,
the people of Umofia must live in peace to honor the earth goddess Ani or else she will not give
them a blessing, resulting in crop failure. The white colonists didn t agree with their beliefs and
rituals and thought that Christianity was more refined and showed a greater amount of intellect.
When twins were born, the Igbo people believed that they were sent by the devil and must be killed.
They didn t question it because their ancestors had been doing it for hundreds of years. When the
Christian missionaries arrived, they were horrified by the thought of child infanticide, believing

How the Airplane Changed War Essay
How the Airplane Changed War
In many ways World War II presents post Civil War American attitudes about technology and
science. Trace either the most relevant technology or scientific assumption from 1865 to 1945

America has faced several major wars including the Civil War, World War Iand II. These wars have
cause great advances in technology and different techniques of fighting. The Civil War was based

both sides had aircraft that was capable of flying to altitudes of 25,000 feet and speeds of 155
miles per hour. This was an amazing feat for wartime pressures for development. After the war
commercial air service was started and planes were being used for the transportation mail. The
United States Postal Service supported the development and Donald Douglas and Boeing started
production of planes for transportation of people and goods. In 1941 there were fewer than 300
planes in service when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The United States had a very weak airforce.
Production had to be increased rapidly, by the end of the war aviation companies were making
almost 50,000 planes a year. The jet engine and pressurized cabin were developed which allowed
planes to fly higher and faster. America focused their attention on the development of fighters and
bombers. Aircraft allowed troops to be relocated to the front lines very quickly. Japan attacked
America at a very good time. We were battling out of a depression that caused the development
and production of the airplane to slow because of a lack of funding. Once the word of the

Hamlet And Ophelia s Madness
There are two different types of madness display in William Shakespeare s play Hamlet . Hamlet
s madness was the result of Claudius killing his father and then Hamlet pretended to be mad to

driven into a depressed state later leading to her death. Although Hamletand Ophelia s madnesses

Widely adopted by the general public then by companies, the Internet fast imposed itself to become
the archetypal media in terms of communication and search for information in all the domains

With the development of the Web 2.0which made Internet participative, the Internet users are now

Internet Censorship in China Essay
In the United States, every child, teenager and adult uses Wikipedia, YouTube and Facebook,
among numerous other sites, regularly. The internet is open and uncensored for the most part, other
than parental controls. In China, most, if not all of those types of sites are or have been blocked.
As in, you could not go to them, unless you found some way around the web filters and firewalls
the Chinese government runs in their country. While China defends their practice of internet
censorship, based on protecting the people, heavy internet censorshipis a block to free speech and

The aim is to tighten political control and get Internet users to censor themselves by bringing them
face to face with their censors or their agents. (Anonymous) Reporters without Boarders further

criticize the regime after meeting the person who could put them behind bars for one wrong word?
(Anonymous) Reporters Without Borders is further stating that someone who might talk about
something the government might find questionable will not do it at all if that person is met by
someone who could put them in prison. On the other hand, the US does not actively regulate the
internet, relying on the public to regulate content on the internet, with little government
intervention. The internet in the US is relatively open, whereas in China, information on the
internet is suppressed based on what the Chinese government deems appropriate or inappropriate.
Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has stated, Countries that heavily censor the Net are creating

Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy Essay
Hysterectomy is one of the commonest gynecologic procedures, with approximately 600,000
women undergoing this procedure annually in the United States for various indications.9
Robotic assisted hysterectomy has gained widespread acceptance in many centers since U.S. Food
and Drug Administration approval in 2005. Several reports on the early experiences with robotics
for endometrial cancer surgery suggest potential advantages over traditional laparoscopic surgery,
including improved surgeon ergonomics, high definition three dimensional visions, and wristed
instrumentation that improves surgical precision.10The overall postoperative morbidity and
complications inherent in both techniques are nearly the same
Our study design contributes to the evaluation of the effect of the robotic assisted hysterectomy in
comparison to laparoscopic hysterectomy for the treatment of either endometrial hyperplasia or
endometrial cancer. Lymphadenectomy was selectively done in high risk patients.
The primary end points were comparisons of perioperative outcomes for both surgical methods.

The Rights Of Gay And Lesbian Couples
A Right to Love
Most people feel that Government rights should automatically be granted to U.S. citizens. An
upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law should be
afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and
lesbians are consistently denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American.
Specifically, gay and lesbians couples are denied the right to marry even if they are upstanding
citizens. They are held at an unfair disadvantage solely because of their sexual orientation. This
discrimination must stop because gay and lesbian couples are law abiding citizens too, who
should be afforded the same rights as heterosexual couples. One common problem that plagues
gay and lesbian couples that are denied the right to marry is their inability to claim their partner s
social security after he or she has died. The Human Rights Campaign, which work to achieve
equal rights for lesbian, gay, bi sexual and transgender people, is supporting the effort to attain
survivor benefits for domesticate partners. They believe, Any alteration to the Social Security
system must include partners of gays and lesbians in its definition of survivor (Survivor Benefits
1). Currently, there are no programs that give homosexuals survivor benefits like the ones that are
provided for heterosexuals who are married or divorced. Gay and lesbian partners are not able to

Difference Between Teaching And Teaching Styles
Even the smartest students have certain classes that they cannot focus in, no matter how hard they
try. Everyone knows that no one is exactly the same; for example, identical twins may look
identical at first glance, if you look more closely, you will notice differences between the two. This
basic concept applies to teachers and professors too. Every teacher has a different teachingmethod,
some people may think that the teaching methods are the same, but it is slightly different. This
difference may be due to the different subjects that the teachers are teaching or just the difference
in personalities and teaching styles that each teacher has. These differences greatly affect students
performances in numerous of ways that one could not possibly think of. I had observed in several
of my classes to compare and contrast different teaching styles from my professors and the
students behaviors depending on the subject and the professors. The classes that I have observed
include General Chemistry 1, Calculus 2 and Asian Behaviors and Thought (ABT). Two of these
classes are the main subjects with the last one is a general educationclass in order to see the
differences better and if there are any similarities. Calculus 2 and ABT are both classroom based
courses. I chose to observe General Chemistry 1 because unlike the other two classes, this class is a
lecture, which means there is no doubt that the teaching methods of the professors would be
different.

Oakley s Theory Of Psychodynamic Research
Finally, the theory touches about formal operational stage which is the most complete stage of
development and continued intellectual development depends on the accumulation of knowledge
by the individuals. This stage begins at approximately 12 years old to adulthood. They begin to
think abstractly and reason about hypothetical and theoretical problems. Adolescents can think
systematically and reason about what might be as well as what is which allows them to
understand better in different fields such as politics, ethics, science fiction as well as to engage
themselves in scientific reasoning. Intelligence starts to be demonstrated through the logical use of
symbols that is related to abstract concepts such as algebra and science. Adolescence who has
reached this stage can imagine and describe precisely and accurately. They will think about diverse
aspects and combined them logically to solve a particular problem. Their verbal explanations of
concepts are usually sufficient without the need... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hypothetical deductive reasoning is a reasoning that uses deductive logic. For example, a child
is told that all rabbits have furry feet and all guinea pigs have bald feet and when they are being
asked about the feet that a rabbit, Lulu have and they will deduce that Lulu has furry feet since
Lulu is a rabbit. In the meanwhile, systematic problem solving is the stage that the child will
solve the problems in a systematic and logical manner. For instance, a child is given a set of
colours and is asked to make purple colour from the set and the child will start to make a series of
different combinations of colours but each combination will be made on the basis of what they
have learned from previous combinations. This is a systematic approach which will eventually help
the child to solve the problem and it is not random but clearly thought

The Negative Impact Of Industrialization On European Society
Impacts of Industrialization
Industrialization is the system in which a country goes from a primarily agricultural state into one
based on the manufacturing of goods and services. Industrialization began its immense impact
during the 18th century in Europe, where it was first introduced. Rapid industrialization brought
plentiful jobs and new products and services, but also created problems that were harmful to the
people. With the rise of industrialization, the society was able to rise to its standard of living.
However, the expansion of cities and factories did not have such a great effect. Throughout the
1700s and 1800s in Europe, industrialization had a negative impact on European society because it
created horrible living conditions, the work force and surroundings were appalling, and it damaged
the environment.

The Cause Of Bizare s Short Stories
Florida can be a strange and scary place sometimes, and anyone who lives there understands the
truth of that statement. Bizarre stories show up on the local news every day that leave the
public questioning, What could have possibly been the cause of that? I can recall one of these
abnormal and somewhat surreal situations that happened not too long ago. It was later in the

Residential Mobility
While the above test results demonstrate a strong negative relationship between geographic
mobility and female households with no husband present, thus rejecting the null hypothesis that
there is no relationship, one is not to assume this is a reliable reflection of the relationship between
single motherhood and residential mobility. As the results show, only approximately 17 percent of
the variability in geographic mobility of a state can be explained by female households with no

Moreover, in order to achieve a more complete picture of housing stability for single mothers, an
examination of residential mobility would only be one of many factors to consider. Number of
moves only accounts for one dimension of housing stability, which is a highly complex concept
(Chwalek 956). Since there is no universally applied definition for studying it across disciplines,
housing stability must be conceptualized for each study, and any approach would have to be
multivariate and on a continuum to provide insight on the various levels of stability within the
broad category of housing (965). (965). Other variables to consider outside of residential mobility,
as tested in many of the studies in the earlier review of literature, include living conditions, the type
of housing, tenure of living situations, history of housing, household income, employment and
education status, accessible support structures, number of children, belief in stability, receipt of
housing subsidies, drug abuse, whether it was a forced displacement (e.g. eviction), and many
more. While it would be very time consuming and complicated to account for all of these variables,
they are all required to examine the full scope of housing stability and whether there is a
relationship with single motherhood. Another option is the narrow the variables to match what
exactly is trying to be studied, and proceed that

The Fraud Triangle Consists Of Three Different Parts
In life, there are many times someone sees an opportunity that can better a situation in their life.
Whether morally right or wrong some still take the action to better their life even if it can
potentially be considered fraud. People tend to find ways to look past their morals. These
situations can be something so small as not splitting the tips at your job evenly, fixing an old
gambling debt, even cheating on your taxes. Some even take it as far as creating a fake business
to receive money from people or steal money coming into an already existent company. These
opportunities are everywhere we look. There are not many people in the world who would give
up an opportunity to better a situation in their life. The question is just how far are they willing
to go and for what are they receiving in the end. Most of these situations, if not all can be
analyzed through the fraud triangle. The fraud triangle consists of three different parts. The first
part would be the perceived financial need or the pressure upon the person. This could be caused
by the person situation where they may be in need, or possibly someone in their life pushing
them to do the act. It could also be something as simple as a want that they feel they should go
after no matter what it takes or the cost. This will lead into step two of the fraud triangle which is
perceived opportunity or, in other words, the opportunity to commit the fraud. This is what they do
to actually do the crime. How they go about

The Gold Rush Effects
The goldfields were discovered in 1848 but the gold rush started in 1851. The first amount of
gold was found by Edward Hargraves. Many people travelled from all around the world in hopes
that they would find a lot of gold and become rich. For many people that didn t happen, only a few
people found a good amount of gold. Between 1851 and 1861 Australiaproduced one third of its
gold. On the goldfields there was discrimination against the chinses immigrants and the Aboriginals.
The miners had to carry a miner licence with them when working on the goldfields. The miners

Examples Of High-Class Conflict In The Great Gatsby
The cynosures of the 1920s were people in the high class society . They had abundant amounts
of money, as well as bragging rights to do as they please. One of the most prominent themes in
The Great Gatsby is the social class conflicts in the 1920s. F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays this
through rich versus poor conflicts, as well as through Old Money versus New Money conflicts.
In this novel, rich are treated significantly different from the poor. The first time the reader really
sees this conflict is when Daisy makes fun of their butler. As if spreading gossip, Daisy bluntly
asks, Do you want to hear about the butler (Fitzgerald pg17)? She then goes on to explain that he
can not smell because of his old job, which was for lower class people.... Show more content on

Tom is a rich man who lives in East Egg, whereas George is a poor man who lives at a gas station
in the Valley of Ashes. Since the rich only marry rich, and Gatsby was not available at the time,
Daisy Buchanan marries Tom and keeps her title as a rich individual. On the other end of things
Myrtle Wilson, who lives in the Valley of Ashes hates her life at the gas station , and wants more
for her life than a man who only faked his wealth to be with her (Sam January 17, 2013).
Because of this mishap, Myrtle strives to be with the prosperous Tom Buchanan throughout the
book, but no man would step down in class just to be with a woman at the social status that
Myrtle is at. As a result of the social status difference, Myrtle has no right to speak about Daisy
because she is so far below her. This issue becomes present at the end of chapter 3 when Myrtle,
out of spite and ignorance, begins to shout Daisy s name. Tom is the most dominant character
throughout the novel, and with one swift upward motion broke her nose with his open hand
(Fitzgerald pg41). Tom believes his actions were acceptable because Myrtle was speaking out of
place. This example shows the extreme actions taken against someone of a different class, and just
how regular it really was to treat them a completely different

researcher and the participant that starts before the research is initiated and continues throughout
the study.
Where possible, participants should be informed about the nature of the study and all the aspect of

Bystanders As A Bystander In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends (King,
n.d.). King s (n.d.) statement demonstrates the major internal impact bystanders can have on
others. As a matter of fact, most people do not think about the possible long term effects of not
standing up for someone or something. Although it may not seem like a big deal to one person, it
could be life changing to another. Many just consider a bystander to be someone who is present at
an incident and doesn t take action, but there is actually much more to it. The term bystander can
be defined as someone who is present during corruption, does not speak up, and seems not to care
about others.
By definition, a bystander must be present during an act of corruption, hence the word. If they are
not present, they do not have the choice to be a bystander or not since they have no idea what
happened. In the novel, Heart of Darkness, Marlow can definitely be considered a bystander,
especially since he was present during the corruption involving the Congo people. For example,
Marlow has already been to the Congo and has seen the terrible events happening to the people
there. And this also, said Marlow suddenly, has been one of the dark places of the earth (Conrad,
1990, p. 5). Despite the terrible actions against those in the Congo, Marlow decides to go back to
try and civilize them in the midst of all the corruption. Now, a modern day example of being

The Changing Face of Children s Literature
Children s literature is always changing. It has evolved greatly over the generations. Children did
not have their own stories in ancient times. Instead, they listened to oral storytellers who would
recite stories I tended for adults to hear. Over time it became apparent that children needed there
own stories. Moral stories and educational writing started to be written with children in mind. As
printed books for children became more accessible, stories started to focus on entertaining children
as well as educating them.
Today, children s literature has stories that are focused on children and offer real life views and
vivid fantasy alike. Children s literature has progressed from simply oral folktales to the child
focused stories we see today. All literature started with storytelling. Our ancestors told stories for
comfort, instruction, entertainment and to teach their culture and religion. Storytelling has been a
huge part of cultures all around the world. In ancient times, there was no difference between
children s literature and adult literature. Children listened to the same stories that their parents
listened to.
Defining what children s literature is seems like an easy task at first. However, it is really not as
simple as it sounds. What is literature for children? If a book is written with children in mind is it
still considered a children s book if adults read it? Likewise, is a book intended for adults still and
adult s book of it is read and enjoyed by

Freud And Erikson Essay
Introduction: When we are living in the human society, the issue of human developmental has been
related to one within the human society. As we know there are several developmental theories
forwarded by the world s most famous psychologists. But the two main theories which we concern
are
Sigmund Freud s psychosexual and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory. Sigmund Freud was a
supporter of Erikson s psychosocial theory. The human s development occurs in a series of
predetermined stages, this believed by the two psychologists.

development as trust versus mistrust. Infant is utterly depend, on the development of trust is based

Both believe that child develops their sense of trust at this stage.
Next, Freud called the anal stage of development, and Erikson called this stage as autonomy

training is an important focus of this independence. Erikson believes that learning to control one s

The Stereotypes Of Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling
Royal diversity Disney s Hidden Glass Ceiling What is the glass ceiling? How can we change it?
And where does Disney fit into this? One of the earliest citation came from the magazine world
in 1984. It was basically about women who reach a certain point in middle management where
they get stuck and they are unable to move forward. Since then the definition has broadened it s
become a metaphor that represents an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic (usually
women and minorities) from rising beyond. Believe it or not, Disney has contributed its fair
share to this with some of its beloved animated princess movies. Most of them featured the
helpless female who eventually finds their prince charming, who then sweeps her off her feet,
then suddenly her whole life changes she lives happily ever after. Sadly, that sends a message to
our young girls that to have happiness and a purpose they need to have a man to achieve that.
Disney has had some success with moving away from female passivity in stories featuring white
characters. In Mulan and the princess and the frog, Disney did not achieve genderor racial equality.
The Disney franchise is a powerful force in the lives of young girls, especially girls of color
seeking same racerole models in the public eye (. Dundes, Streiff, 2016, p1). By unveiling Disney
s hidden glass ceiling, we can start to get a more realistic view of our children s movies and start to
distance ourselves from racial, sexism,

Credibility Statement: No one really knows how many stray animals roam the streets, but it is
predicted that there are more than 70 million stray cats in the United States alone.
Central Idea (Proposition): By adopting pets from the American Humane Society or other important
rescue shelters, together, we can reduce the amount of stray animals on the streets. It is estimated
that there are over 11 million Americans that support the Humane Society.

By adopting and rescuing animals from the Humane Societies, you are essentially saving their life.
II. Adopting a pet from the Humane Society, does not only benefit the animal, but it also benefits
you as well.
A. Pet stores are usually there to make money selling their animals, so their price is guaranteed to
be much higher than the adoption fee at your local shelter.
1. Adoption costs include more than just the price of the animal. The amount of money you pay at
an animal shelter covers neutering, and any vaccinations or treatments that may be required to keep
your new pet well and healthy.
2. Adoption also greatly benefits the animal, and it can also have a very positive influence on your
own life.
3. In the process of choosing to adopt from a shelter, you may find your new best friend or the
newest addition to your family. Whether it is a fluffy cat, a lap dog, or any pet, it can add something
to your life that you had been missing your whole life.
(This is where I would talk about animals being in puppy mills and cruel facilities...but, this is too
sensitive of a topic for me to handle when doing a speech.)

is a bit irritating, but if he/she is late regularly, than it is quite a disturbing fact. On the one hand,
it proves that this person do not really respect those people who are waiting for him/her. On the

Major Reasons For The Fall Of The Roman Empire
The major reason for the fall of the Western Roman Empire was due to the over dependence of
slavery. Slavery played an important role in Ancient Rome and was heavily relied on to maintain
its social, political and economic hold on its Empire that expanded on the Mediterranean area and
beyond ( History The Fall of the Roman Republic, 2011). Slaverywas first introduced as early as
the third century BC, with a lot of its history traced back to the legendary Romulus the founder
of Rome, giving Roman fathers the right to sell their own children into slavery ( Slaves
Freeman, 2006). As time passed and Rome became a force to be reckoned with, the practice of
slavery kept growing with the expansion of the Roman state through victories of the war. The
ownership of slaves became omnipresent throughout Rome from the Second Punic War (218 201
BCE) to the 4th century CE, and according to records, an enormous slave trade resulted from the
collapse of the Seleucid Empire (100 63 BCE) (Burks, 2008). With several military victories,
conquests, and expansions, slavery grew at an incredible rate throughout the state. With conquest
came money and with money came more slaves. According to records, in 225 B.C., there were an
estimated 600,000 slaves in Roman Italy, but only 194 years later that number grew to
approximately two million (Burks, 2008). In the Roman state, slaves worked everywhere. They
were used for domestic services, agricultural labor, and gladiator fighting. Educated

Causes Of The Coercive Acts
The Coercive Acts was formed by the British Parliament to punish the Americans in Boston,
Massachusetts, for the destroying the tea of the East India Company. The British needed money so
they taxed the Americans to help them get money for the French and Indian War. This outraged the
colonist because they didn t like being taxed without being represented. The colonist wore Native
Americans attire and dumped the bags of tea into the Boston Harbor. The British viewed the
retaliation of the Americans as disrespectful. The British Parliament passed several laws that
angered Americans, and they believed those rights are unbearable to follow. The Coercive Acts
leads to the American Revolution, and the Americans believe that British Parliament disregarded
their rights as people with natural rights. The first act that was passed by the Parliament was the
Boston Port Act. It was passed in March of 1774, it stopped all shipping into or out of the port of
Boston until payment was received for the tea ruined in the Boston Tea Partyand the tax that was
due on it ( Intolerable Acts ). The act was to punish those who were involved in the Boston Tea
Party. The ports were so heavily guarded that people could not give feed their horses hay from
Charlestown, Massachusetts. The city of Boston began to suffer economically, because they could
not make money from exporting goods. The king sent an army to make sure the rule was enforced.

He loathes this birthmark so much that he says it reminds him of sin and earthliness, opposed to

more training to help them succeed. In addition, more supervisors will appoint assistants and
prepare them for temporary takeover roles when they are absent. In other words, front line
supervisors will move closer to those upper management leaders who remain with the firm and
whose roles, in turn, will be expanded. 5. Supervisors derive tremendous personal benefits from
their role in today s business culture. For example: Effective supervisors will be easier to spot and
will receive first call on promotional possibilities. Women who excel as front line supervisors will
discover that the socalled glass ceiling is less likely to affect them. The challenges of front line
supervision provide a great training ground and preparation for upper management positions.
Supervision offers the opportunity to engage in meaningful and challenging work that will enhance
one s self respect and the respect from others. Supervisors will receive more immediate positive
reinforcement of their contribution to organizational success as a result of leading their employees
through collaborative and team based approaches than was possible through former top down
management methods. Supervisors will have greater opportunities to engage in continuous

Ritual and Vows of Christian Marrage and Their Influence on the Differing Ways that Couples
Approach Marraige and Marital Breakdown
Most people see marriage as a sacrament that should be intended for life. It is often thought of as
a deep way of sharing between a couple. Most people get married because it s a lifelong
commitment, it s a way of bringing up children in a secure and loving home, a way to control and
direct the sex instinct and a way of gaining a friend and companion for life.
The main reasons for marriage and the attitudes towards marriage have changed in the last four
hundred years. In the seventeenth century, the main reason for marriage was so that the couple
could have children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The exchange of rings follows the exchange of vows. The vows used in the Christian marriage
reflect the idea of a long lasting and un selfish relationship. A vow that is used in most Christian
marriage ceremonies is:
I take you to be my husband / wife,
To have and to hold
From this day forward,
For better, for worse,
For richer, for poorer,
In sickness and in health,
To love and to cherish
Till death us do part,
According to God s Holy law.
And to this I pledge myself.
This vow shows how you should look after your partner whatever the circumstances, i.e. if he/she
is ill. Both partners make this promise so it is a shared responsibility. After this promise has been
said, the ring is placed on the third finger of the woman s hand and the man and the women both
say separately:
With this ring I thee wed;
With my body I thee honour and all my worldly goods with
Thee I share
In the name of the Father, the son and the Holy Spirit.
This vow gives the idea of a deep form of sharing between the couple and how all their
possessions are now shared. The prayer of the faithful follows which may also include personal
prayer by the couple. The mass concludes with the Lord s prayer and a Blessing. There may also
be a candlelight blessing. In the Catholic tradition the candle flame is a symbol of Christ, the light of

Groundwater Samples Were Collected And Reported By Sultan...
Groundwater samples were collected and reported by Sultan et al. (2011) from Sinai for isotopic
analyses of H and O from open and productive wells tapping three types of aquifers: (1) fractured
basement, (2) Nubian Sandstone unconfined aquifer cropping out at the foothills of the basement
outcrops, and (3) alluvial. They believed that the unconfined and alluvial aquifers fed by a fractured
basement aquiferthrough discharging into the overlying sediments. The ОґD and Оґ18O isotopic
compositions of the groundwatersamples from the unconfined Nubian Sandstone aquifers in the
recharge areas cropping out at the foothills of the basement outcrops are somewhat depleted (ОґD:
22.7 to 32.8‰; δ18O: 4.47 to 5.22‰) compared to those from fractured basement outcrops
(δD: 19.9 to 23.2‰; δ18O: 3.77 to 5.05‰) and those from alluvial aquifers (δD: 22.7 to
23.4‰; δ18O: 4.53 to 5.01‰), but they are less depleted than those reported from the Gulf of
Suez (Sturchio et al., 1996). The isotopic compositions of the samples from the fractured basement
and alluvial aquifers are similar to those of average modern precipitation from Al Arish and Rafah
(Fig. 3). The unconfined aquifer shows a mixing between fossil waters of the Western Desert,
formed in pluvial period, and modern precipitation deposited in dry and warm climatic conditions
(Sultan et al., 1997, 2011).

Early Quebec (1534 1948)
1534 On July 24, Jacques Cartier (the explorer) plants a cross on the GaspГ© Peninsula and claims
it for France. This marks the birth of the modern province of Quebec, though it is not known at the
time.
1608 Samuel de Champlain founds Quebec City, the first European settlement in Canada.

Eventually, this particular battle was won out, and Quebec became its own province without
supervision from the King. As a result, the people of Quebec felt very strong nationalistic tenancies
towards the province, and were tied together by the shared sense of accomplishment. Later in
history, tensions were high as English speaking settlers fought to have English as the primary
spoken language of Quebec. Though there were many Anglophones in Quebec, the majority of the
population were Francophones, and this divide brought forth a political and cultural divide within
the province. There was a long and turbulent struggle within the province s Francophone
community. The struggle for survival and recognition as one of Canada s founding peoples within a
predominantly Anglophone Canadian society became especially notable in the 1960 s, with the
Quiet Revolution. For the francophones, the ultimate triumph of French over English was, and is, a

“Metaphors,” Written By Sylvia Plath, Is A Riddle Poem.
Metaphors, written by Sylvia Plath, is a riddle poem. Throughout the poem, Plath uses figures of
speech, alliteration, and other literary devices to reveal her central theme. Like a riddle, the reader
must use Plath s literary devices to unveil the answer to the riddle. While Metaphors does not use a
traditional form or meter, its unusual structure also points to the main idea Plath presents. Plath s
Metaphors is a riddle poem whose solution, pregnancy, is solved using literary devices and other

Plath s use of the number nine is yet another key to solving the riddle.
Continuing the descriptions of the physical transformation of pregnancy, Plath uses another
metaphor in line two: An elephant, a ponderous house, (2). The first metaphor of the elephant
displays the physical transformation a pregnant woman undergoes. The obvious transformations
of weight gain and unflattering associations of slow and difficult gait (Devi, p. 2, 2006) are
reflected in the elephant metaphor. The ponderous house refers the bulky figure of a pregnant
woman ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). G. Devi also points out that the woman is like a house as the
speaker sees herself as a shelter for the child growing inside her (p. 2, 2006).
Plath again portrays the physical changes of pregnancy in line three: A melon strolling on two
tendrils (3). The line s imagery allows the reader to gain a mental picture of a large melon
carefully walking on two thin legs. This line also employs personification as the melon is given
the human quality of walking ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). The melon is also metaphor of
fertility. Like a fetus, a melon fruit is the most valuable part of the plant (Devi, p. 2, 2006). Plath
continues the value of pregnancy in line four: O red fruit, ivory, fine timbers! (4). The items listed
in this line are all of high value. The red fruit is the most valuable

The purpose of laryngectomy is to remove tumor or cancerous tissues. It is done when the larynx
is badly damaged or when cancer has advanced. Often, if the cancer has spread, other surrounding
structures in the neck, such as lymph nodes, are removed at the same time. Partial laryngectomies
are done when cancer is limited in one area of which the tumor is located, will be removed. Also
laryngectomy is performed because cancer treatment option, such as radiation or chemotherapy has
failed. (Gale Encyclopedia of medicine. 2008). Nurses play a critical role in patient education
throughout the entire spectrum of healthcare. Nursing care of people who have a total
laryngectomy starts in the pre operative period with patient education and continues after discharge
with follow up care. The nurse patient relationship begins in the outpatient setting, where the nurse
performs a complete head and neck assessment and comprehensive review of the patient s past
medical and social history. (Cheryl Bressler, MSN, RN). First, to start the process of preop care,
making sure the patient had a restriction of foods and liquids at least six to nine hours before the
surgery. The nurse would make sure the patient signed a consent form after thoroughly explaining
the procedure. A

There are numerous types of bone diseases in the world, however there are some that are

signs and symptoms that make them completely different from any other diseases. Bone diseases
are special in a sense that they must be treated carefully to prevent the patient from undergoing too

some that are most commonly seen in children. Ricketsis an example of this, which is why it may

Homeostasis is a natural balance of our body, and without a good amount of calcium, we lose some
of that balance. The Calcium in the bones is what keeps them strong, without it they tend to
become soft and weak. There are numerous places where people can get their vitamin D, one of the
most commonly known is from exposure to the sun. while too much sun can lead to damaginf
effects on the skin, it is still extremely important to get a decent amount of exposure. Those who
are unable to get an appropriate amount of exposure, for example: modest women who are
unallowed to show much skin, can find vitamin D from different sources. Other sources include
fish such as salmon, fortified milk, and cod liver oil (Holick,2005). If people make a greater effort
to have a diet that includes this vitamin, they are gauranteed to build stronger bones. Anyone can
get nutritional rickets, however some mothers may question the reason behind why their new born
child develops it at such a young age. It all stems back to the mother. It is common for
breastfeeding mothers who have low vitamin D supplementation to pass it onto their kids. So when
should mothers be aware of whether or not they should be breastfeeding their newborn? Some
mothers may lack vitamin D because of lack of exposure to sunlight, they may fear the risk of
getting skin cancer(Wharton,2003). These women should work vitamin D into their diet by the

Ebola Impact on Human Health amp; Hygiene Essay
Historically Ebola has had a serious impact on human health and hygiene and still does due to the
fact of no vaccine or treatment being discovered, but thanks to improvements in scientific and

Ebola is the virus Ebolavirus (EBOV), a viral genus, and the disease Ebola hemorrhagic fever

Outbreaks of Ebola, with the exception of Reston Ebolavirus, have mainly been restricted to
Africa. * The Zaire virus, formerly named Zaire Ebolavirus, has the highest case fatality rate, up
to 90% in some epidemics, with an average case fatality rate of approximately 83% over 27
years. The first outbreak took place on 26 August 1976 in Yambuku. * The Sudan Ebolavirus
was the second species of Ebola emerging simultaneously with the Zaire virus. It was believed
to have originated amongst cotton factory workers in Nzara, Sudan. The most recent outbreak
occurred in May 2004 in Yambio County, Sudan. The average fatality rates for SEBOV were
54% in 1976, 68% in 1979, and 53% in 2000 and 2001. * The Reston Ebolavirus was discovered
during an outbreak of Simian hemorrhagic fever virus (SHFV) in crab eating macaques from
Hazleton Laboratories (now Covance) in 1989. Since the initial outbreak in Reston, Virginia, it
has emerged in Siena Italy, Texas, and among pigs in the Philippines. Despite its status as a Level

Meaning Of Medieval Feudals
Medieval Vassals
Medieval Vassals (Intro)
During the medieval period, kings ruled large areas of land. In order to protect these lands from
invasion, the king would give portions of their lands to the local lords which were called the
Vassals. They governed the lands granted to them by the king and promised to defend it against
conquerors.
Medieval Vassals Definition
Medieval vassals was believed to have been derived from the Latin word vassallus and the Roman
word vassus, which means servant. However, it was also said to have originated from the Celtic
and Welsh term gwas which means a young male feudal tenant.
In the feudal system, Medieval Vassals by definition were people granted the use of a King s land
in return for their services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term vassal originally emerged during the medieval era of the middle ages as the feudal
system was established in England in 1066 after the rest of the country was claimed by William,
The Conqueror.
Medieval Vassals History
The first vassals during the medieval period came from England and were appointed right after the
Norman Conquest. When William the Conqueror invaded the country, all estates that belonged to
England were declared as his property. And to give honor to the Normal soldiers who fought with
him during the conquest, he awarded majority of the lands to them.
After William gained control, the Norman soldier who became and were declared Lords of these
lands began to rule with him. Noble men became Lords and lower military officers became
vassals. The idea of awarding the lands to the Lords basically was to assist the new ruler in
protecting the kingdom from invasion as each Lord was in charged of protecting his own land.
The Medieval Vassals Land
The medieval vassal lands varied in size. The average size of these land, known as fief, were as
small as 1200 acres and as big as 1800 acres. Most of the feudal lands consisted of farm and cultural
lands. Meanwhile, the vassals either lived in castles of the lords or they owned their own

A Short Note On Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Sherene Phinizy
535 Excelsior Avenue
Croydon Pa 19021
I am applying to the MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a good listener as well as an
overall thinker. I normally have a knack for taking a problem, looking at it then figuring out the
best way to solve it. My goal is to enter into a field that would enhance those skills as well as help
others. I would like to assist others in working out their issues so that they can move on from any
situation with a successful mindset. I do believe that others need help working through things that
hinder or cause a disruption in their daily functions. I am a cancer survivor and when I was in
the hospital I could not do a thing for myself. I was bedridden for a month. A social worker came
in the door and sat with me to figure out the best way to help me. I then realized two things. The
first one was that people sometimes need help to solve their problems and I needed a job that
was not too physical. Help is not a bad thing to need especially if it is done in a way to help you
better yourself. A human being needs someone to talk to or show them a way that they cannot see
at the time.
I was greatly influenced by my battle with cancer. I was very young at the time and my life was
just beginning. I had only been out of high school for a year. I would have never have thought I
would need my mother as much as I did. I was at the age when I was supposed to be finding
myself and my independence. At nineteen I was as helpless as a

The Portrayal of Socially Destructive and Over-Ambitious...
Richard, the main character of the Shakespeare s play, Richard III is portrayed as socially
destructive and politically over ambitious. His destructive potential is depicted by the way he

Richard s political ambition is revealed through his strategic calculations based on the order of
birth in his York family which puts him third away from the throne. Ahead of him is his elder

Whereas the senecan tyrant rages against virtue in the name of ambition, or lust, R.B.Pierce
argues that Richard, like the formal vice, Iniquity (III.i.82), thrives by an ironic detachment
from all the standards of traditional morality including the claims of the family
(Robert.B.Pierce, 1971:90 91) Shakespeare in his play, Richard III, added a physical deformity
to incite people to see his plays. A both deformed and mobile character was found to be a scary
monster. To begin with, he invites the audience to his unhappy life despite the fact that the no
one pays attention to him because others neither find him handsome nor sexually appealing.
Richard is not eye catching due to physical deformity which he vividly describes as the cause of
his misfit, and therefore acquires himself the status of a victim. No one pays attention to him
because others neither find him handsome nor sexually appealing. But he magnetizes the
audience, makes them complicit of his own deeds and dares it to look away. However, as he
unfolds his intentions, towards the end of the first soliloquy, the audience is awestruck at how
many sordid deeds he is capable of. We are also rendered helpless for we cannot warn his potential
victims of the danger which awaits them, but we are captives of Richard s rhetorical language that

How Technology Has Impacted Education
Introduction
Education is defined as the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge,
developing the powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of preparing oneself or others
intellectually for mature life. A good education leads to knowledge, career progression,
enlightenment and helps a nation progress, as John F. Kennedy said; Our progress as a nation can
be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource. The
introduction of technology in education has impacted education both for good and bad. According
to the Oxford dictionary, Technology is; machinery and devices that are developed from scientific
knowledge to increase or better, everyday functions. Technology used in education, is part of a large
debate over whether it is improving educational outcomes in students. Some say technology is
revolutionizing education for the better, and others say it is a trend that offer/s no specific
improvements to education. Although technology can never replace a good quality teacher, the
advantages and benefits of technology, positively supplements a bridge between education and the
technological world, hence offers students the marketable job skills they need in order to satisfy in
the evolving technological world.
Relevant interviews and surveys were conducted, to discover peoples understanding of technology.

Mary Tyrone s Actual Happy Ending
Grief does not change you. It reveals you was said by the author, John Green who wrote The
Fault in Our Stars. This quote, however, relates directly to Eugene O Neill s play, Long Day s
Journey into Night. Grief from the past will not change an individual; however the event will
mold the person s future. Eugene O Neill s life helped to create the phenomenal writer he was
because of his personal experiences. In Eugene O Neill s play, Long Day s Journey into Night, the
characterization of Mary Tyrone demonstrates a sense of loss through her loneliness, addictionand
unconditional love for her family. The sense of loss in the Tyrone household is supported by the
constant reminder of Mary s loneliness and isolation. During her drug induced hallucinations, Mary
returns to a life that she was happier in; when she was younger and only had one child, Jamie. She
is completely isolated from her family and the rest of her community. Being a morphineaddict,
Mary skips many of the family meals complaining that she is not hungry. Skipping daily meals,
which symbolize communion in a family, isolates her from the family. Mary moans about the
past and her happy life by articulating how their summer house is not a real home because she is
always lonely, In a real home one is never lonely. You forget I know from experience what a home
is like. I gave up one to marry you my father s home (74). What Mary considers to be her utopian

European Music Awards At Glasgow s Sse Hydro
Scotland is a country which receives many tourists every year from all over the world. Especially
Scotland s business tourism sector is on the rise. There was a huge capital investment,

MTV European Music Awards at Glasgow s SSE Hydro. Because of the high amount of
conferences and events, the profile among international markets has raised. The Visit Scotland
Conference Bid Fund revealed information that 46 international association conferences have been
secured until 2021. Among them are all types of conferences such as food/drinks trade shows,
science/educational conferences or topics like renewable energies. From this it follows that the year
2014 was only the start for a flourishing business tourismsector in Scotland. In the first quarter this
year there were 90.000 trips made by international business travelers. Compared to the same period
in 2013, there is an increase of about 4%. The number of domestic overnight business tourism trips
is 493.000 which is again higher than in 2013. When comparing the spent per trip and per night, the

  • 2. Things Fall Apart Imperialism Essay While there are many novels written about white colonization in Africa, Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart illustrates the views of not only the Nigerian people in Igbo but also the white imperialist side of the story. Achebe wrote the novel as a response to other books about the colonization of Africa, which were typically written by white men. Joseph Conrad, among many other authors wrote African characters as less intelligent and primitive humans who were better off after the colonization of Africa. Achebe shows the reader that the people of Igbo had a fully functioning civilization with a developed religion, language, and political system. They were not just a helpless, uneducated civilization waiting for someone to come and reconstruct... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He settles this dispute by going to Mbaino and commanding them to send Umofia a virgin and a young man or else they will go into war. The white colonists may have viewed this exchange as unnecessary and would have just killed or locked up the person who murdered the tribesman. Also, in Igbo culture for a man to be called a real man, he must have at least two wives. Unlike in Umofia, the white settlers believe that polygamous marriages are a sin due to their practice of Christian values. What was seemingly normal to the Igbo culture was shamed in European culture which is why the colonists attempted to spread their religion and reduce the amount of sins being committed. Umofia had a strong belief system with ancestral spirits. During the Week of Peace, the people of Umofia must live in peace to honor the earth goddess Ani or else she will not give them a blessing, resulting in crop failure. The white colonists didn t agree with their beliefs and rituals and thought that Christianity was more refined and showed a greater amount of intellect. When twins were born, the Igbo people believed that they were sent by the devil and must be killed. They didn t question it because their ancestors had been doing it for hundreds of years. By the end of World War I both sides had aircraft that was capable of flying to altitudes of 25,000 feet and speeds of 155 miles per hour. This was an amazing feat for wartime pressures for development. After the war commercial air service was started and planes were being used for the transportation mail. The United States Postal Service supported the development and Donald Douglas and Boeing started production of planes for transportation of people and goods. In 1941 there were fewer than 300 planes in service when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The United States had a very weak airforce. • 10. The Rights Of Gay And Lesbian Couples A Right to Love Most people feel that Government rights should automatically be granted to U.S. citizens. An upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law should be afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and lesbians are consistently denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American. Specifically, gay and lesbians couples are denied the right to marry even if they are upstanding citizens. They are held at an unfair disadvantage solely because of their sexual orientation. This discrimination must stop because gay and lesbian couples are law abiding citizens too, who should be afforded the same rights as heterosexual couples. One common problem that plagues gay and lesbian couples that are denied the right to marry is their inability to claim their partner s social security after he or she has died. The Human Rights Campaign, which work to achieve equal rights for lesbian, gay, bi sexual and transgender people, is supporting the effort to attain survivor benefits for domesticate partners. • 11. Difference Between Teaching And Teaching Styles Even the smartest students have certain classes that they cannot focus in, no matter how hard they try. Everyone knows that no one is exactly the same; for example, identical twins may look identical at first glance, if you look more closely, you will notice differences between the two. This basic concept applies to teachers and professors too. Every teacher has a different teachingmethod, some people may think that the teaching methods are the same, but it is slightly different. This difference may be due to the different subjects that the teachers are teaching or just the difference in personalities and teaching styles that each teacher has. These differences greatly affect students performances in numerous of ways that one could not possibly think of. I had observed in several of my classes to compare and contrast different teaching styles from my professors and the students behaviors depending on the subject and the professors. The classes that I have observed include General Chemistry 1, Calculus 2 and Asian Behaviors and Thought (ABT). Two of these classes are the main subjects with the last one is a general educationclass in order to see the differences better and if there are any similarities. Believe it or not, Disney has contributed its fair share to this with some of its beloved animated princess movies. Most of them featured the helpless female who eventually finds their prince charming, who then sweeps her off her feet, then suddenly her whole life changes she lives happily ever after. Sadly, that sends a message to our young girls that to have happiness and a purpose they need to have a man to achieve that. Disney has had some success with moving away from female passivity in stories featuring white characters. In Mulan and the princess and the frog, Disney did not achieve genderor racial equality. The Disney franchise is a powerful force in the lives of young girls, especially girls of color seeking same racerole models in the public eye (. Dundes, Streiff, 2016, p1). Adopting a pet from the Humane Society, does not only benefit the animal, but it also benefits you as well. A. Pet stores are usually there to make money selling their animals, so their price is guaranteed to be much higher than the adoption fee at your local shelter. 1. Adoption costs include more than just the price of the animal. The amount of money you pay at an animal shelter covers neutering, and any vaccinations or treatments that may be required to keep your new pet well and healthy. 2. Adoption also greatly benefits the animal, and it can also have a very positive influence on your own life. 3. In the process of choosing to adopt from a shelter, you may find your new best friend or the newest addition to your family. Whether it is a fluffy cat, a lap dog, or any pet, it can add something to your life that you had been missing your whole life. In this respect it should be said that if a person is late, it is a bit irritating, but if he/she is late regularly, than it is quite a disturbing fact. On the one hand, it proves that this person do not really respect those people who are waiting for him/her. On the other hand, it proves that this person is absolutely irresponsible because being late means that the person is unable to do his/her duties well. In contrast, being on time proves that the person is highly responsible and is ready to fulfill his/her duty without delay. Such characteristics of an individual are particularly important in army. • 34. Major Reasons For The Fall Of The Roman Empire The major reason for the fall of the Western Roman Empire was due to the over dependence of slavery. Slavery played an important role in Ancient Rome and was heavily relied on to maintain its social, political and economic hold on its Empire that expanded on the Mediterranean area and beyond ( History The Fall of the Roman Republic, 2011). Slaverywas first introduced as early as the third century BC, with a lot of its history traced back to the legendary Romulus the founder of Rome, giving Roman fathers the right to sell their own children into slavery ( Slaves Freeman, 2006). As time passed and Rome became a force to be reckoned with, the practice of slavery kept growing with the expansion of the Roman state through victories of the war. The ownership of slaves became omnipresent throughout Rome from the Second Punic War (218 201 BCE) to the 4th century CE, and according to records, an enormous slave trade resulted from the collapse of the Seleucid Empire (100 63 BCE) (Burks, 2008). With several military victories, conquests, and expansions, slavery grew at an incredible rate throughout the state. With conquest came money and with money came more slaves. According to records, in 225 B.C., there were an estimated 600,000 slaves in Roman Italy, but only 194 years later that number grew to approximately two million (Burks, 2008). In the Roman state, slaves worked everywhere. They were used for domestic services, agricultural labor, and gladiator fighting. Educated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The obvious transformations of weight gain and unflattering associations of slow and difficult gait (Devi, p. 2, 2006) are reflected in the elephant metaphor. The ponderous house refers the bulky figure of a pregnant woman ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). G. The line s imagery allows the reader to gain a mental picture of a large melon carefully walking on two thin legs. This line also employs personification as the melon is given the human quality of walking ( Metaphors: Lines 1 4, 2008). The melon is also metaphor of fertility. • 55. A Short Note On Clinical Mental Health Counseling Sherene Phinizy 535 Excelsior Avenue Croydon Pa 19021 I am applying to the MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a good listener as well as an overall thinker. I normally have a knack for taking a problem, looking at it then figuring out the best way to solve it. My goal is to enter into a field that would enhance those skills as well as help others. I would like to assist others in working out their issues so that they can move on from any situation with a successful mindset. I do believe that others need help working through things that hinder or cause a disruption in their daily functions. I am a cancer survivor and when I was in the hospital I could not do a thing for myself. I was bedridden for a month. A social worker came in the door and sat with me to figure out the best way to help me. I then realized two things. The first one was that people sometimes need help to solve their problems and I needed a job that was not too physical. Help is not a bad thing to need especially if it is done in a way to help you better yourself. A human being needs someone to talk to or show them a way that they cannot see at the time. I was greatly influenced by my battle with cancer. I was very young at the time and my life was just beginning. I had only been out of high school for a year. I would have never have thought I would need my mother as much as I did. I was at the age when I was supposed to be finding myself and my independence. At nineteen I was as helpless as a ... Whereas the senecan tyrant rages against virtue in the name of ambition, or lust, R.B.Pierce argues that Richard, like the formal vice, Iniquity (III.i.82), thrives by an ironic detachment from all the standards of traditional morality including the claims of the family (Robert.B.Pierce, 1971:90 91) Shakespeare in his play, Richard III, added a physical deformity to incite people to see his plays. A both deformed and mobile character was found to be a scary monster. To begin with, he invites the audience to his unhappy life despite the fact that the no one pays attention to him because others neither find him handsome nor sexually appealing. Richard is not eye catching due to physical deformity which he vividly describes as the cause of his misfit, and therefore acquires himself the status of a victim. No one pays attention to him because others neither find him handsome nor sexually appealing. But he magnetizes the audience, makes them complicit of his own deeds and dares it to look away. However, as he unfolds his intentions, towards the end of the first soliloquy, the audience is awestruck at how many sordid deeds he is capable of. We are also rendered helpless for we cannot warn his potential victims of the danger which awaits them, but we are captives of Richard s rhetorical language that generates a special ...
