Heros In Fahrenheit 451
In the dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Firemen are a different breed of heros,
believing them to be almost saviors of the society in which they live in by starting fires and burning
books rather than putting out the fires. It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things
eaten, to see things blackened and changed...While the books went up in sparkling whirls and blew
away on a wind turned dark with burning (Bradbury 1). Coloured people don t like Little Black
Sambo. Burn it. White people don t feel good about Uncle Tom s Cabin. Burn it....Serenity, Montag.
Peace, Montag....Burn them all, burn everything. Fire is bright and fire is clean (Bradbury 57). In
Modern Society, Fire departments are depicted as heros ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone is equal and those that fight that system are jailed. There is no such thing as equity, such a
word is shamed and frowned upon by the believers of the society and the government controlling
them. The government stripped them from their individual rights and basic freedoms, and instead gave
them an ironfist rule of law. Those who are more skilled than others are given various handicaps to
prevent them from getting too intelligent or too strong. Nobody was smarter than anybody else.
Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody
else....The strong wore weights to make them weaker; the intelligent wore earpieces that kept them
from taking unfair advantage of their brains (2081 1). Their government has no room for any human
rights whatsoever. No room for any other form of government other than a dictatorship; which differs
substantially from the modern world government of a republic democracy. The modern society
government, which all americans run under, is a balance between the people and those that run the
country. We the People it states in the first line of the Constitution, expressing the idea that the
government and its people must have some sort of interaction to be able to function. Modern
government has a much more looser term of equality, rather it has the words equal opportunity , laced
in between words of free speech and religion. Modern society uses

Shepherds run from either medium to large in size. The breed is originated in Germany. You can teach
a command to a shepherd in German and English, but they tend to learn better in German Shepherds

Informative Speech On Agriculture
I. Introduction:
a. Attention Getter: Picture it if you will a world where we rely on a minute percentage of the
population to feed our country. Imagine the struggle they may have to produce food for a country as
large as ours. Then imagine what could happen if people didn t enter this industry and the majority of
the workers were past the common held age of retirement. This picture is of current production
agriculture and this world is the one we all live in today.
b. Benefits: Unfortunately, the agriculture industry has been getting a bad rap both in the media and
the public eye. However, if we take responsibility for educating ourselves we can reverse the trend of
young people on entering the industry.
c. Thesis: Fewer people are returning or going into the agriculture industry.
d. Preview: Due to this trend we are seeing the aging of American Farmers and the spreading of
misconceptions in our society.
II. MP1 Compared to recent years fewer individuals are returning to or going into the agricultural
industry.
a. The agriculture industry is not only the largest industry within our state, but also within our nation.
However, in recent years it has also been one of the most heavily criticized. This has led to a brain
drain in rural America as more people decide to leave our industry and their family farms.
b. In a 2017 publication of The New York Times, Mark Core, an executive vice president at Vermeer
(an agricultural equipment manufacturer), said that his customers say, the No. 1 thing holding back
growth is labor every time. (In Iowa...Not)
c. There is a lot of speculation as to why this trend is happening, however the most common held
belief is that there is no money in the agricultural industry and if you want to be successful you should
look somewhere else. If we are to save America s most important industry it starts with preparing now.
III. MP2 The average age of American Farmers is steadily increasing, and people are further removed
from production agriculture.
a. The average age of the American Farmer is increasing.
i. Within the United States a very small percentage of the population produces enough food for the
entire country. The fear is as these people grow older this already small number

Retirement Plan Proposal And Communication Plan
Retirement Plan Proposal and Communication Plan
As being part of the HR benefit specialist team, our management team has given our department a task
on coming up and creating a proposal that will include useful information based on an important topic
which revolves around retirement plans that will be offered to the 150 employees that are employed
with this company. As we all can be aware, when dealing with retirement benefits there are many
sources where employees themselves can receive information on this particular matter which some
include Disability Insurance, Social Security Old Age, IRAs/Roth IRAs, Employer sponsor
contribution plans just to name a few. From these mentioned resources we will be discussing and
focusing on three important retirement plans that most employees tend to rely on when working with
an employer. Other areas that will also be discussed will be pension plans as well as contribution
plans, profit sharing and last but not least 401K.
To get more into detail when dealing with traditional pensions and their plans those are normally
calculated to come up with payments that are given to the employee once coming to a retirement. The
401K is a payout that is based on both the employer and the employee s contributions as well as the
number of interested that has been earned over the period of time. Profit=sharing revolves around the
gross sales or even money that has been put out for distribution from the employer to the employees.
Now, when dealing with

Gee s Essay I Have This Nagging Feeling We Missed Something
I Have This Nagging Feeling We Missed Something
In recent weeks all of us have been introduced to the essay What is Literacy written by Linguist James
Paul Gee in 1987. Within this document we learn Gee is going to employ his learned linguistic skills
to provide a useful definition for the word literacy. Prior to providing us this insight, however, Gee
must educate the reader on various definitions, ideas and numerous theories in an effort to provide
support for his conclusions and ultimately woo the reader into believing the postulations he makes.
Initially this is all fine and well, as Gee does an admirable job of laying out these foundations, up and
until he begins to explain how an individual obtains knowledge. It is here Gee s ... Show more content

Darold Treffert, Psychiatrist, chronicles his more than 50 years of working with individuals known as
savants. Treffert writes One of the most striking and consistent things in the many savants I have seen
is that they clearly know things they never learned . Treffert s belief the knowledge these savants have
obtained has always been with them is clearly evidenced as he uses terms like factory installed ,
genetic memory , racial memory and ancestral memory when attempting to explain the phenomena he
has witnessed first hand. During the course of the article Treffert goes on to cite additional studies and
books written by himself as well as his peers verifying the fact that there is no way possible for the
individuals to have learned or acquired their respective talents through normal conventions. Savants
remind us there is so much about the brain and knowledge that we still have yet to learn and this
scares me. Within the article Treffert writes about acquired savants and accidental genius and further
explains at times of severe head trauma or grave illness the reaming functioning parts of the can in
fact release the latent capacity therein thus creating a new savant. Given the lack of value today s
society seems to place on human life combined with the quest for knowledge, the thought of Dr.
Frankenstein smashing poor subjects frontal lobes in an attempt to create a savant does not seem all
that farfetched at all and that should scare us all. Regardless, the savant clearly does not meet the
guidelines of obtaining knowledge as set forth in Gee s

Prior to the arrival of Europeans, land care was a major purpose in life for Aboriginal people and
although their approach was entirely sustainable, they were actively intervening in the landscape.
They involved activities such as damming creeks, fire stick farming and sustainable harvesting
methods. (Roberts, 2014) The damming of creeks created natural watering holes for their own use as
well as attracting animals to the area, which incidentally resulted in a change in Australian landscape.
Fire stick farming was used to promote the growth of valued plants, with plant species unable to
survive fire and declining in numbers, and more resistant species, such as grass trees, eucalypts and
acacias, dominating. The Indigenous harvesting techniques were also quite sustainable in conserving
resources. For example, women dug some varieties of yams in such a way that a portion which would
regenerate was left in the ground. (Williams, 1986, pp. 93 94) Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the
Indigenous Australians managed their lands in a way that was sustainable and would ensure
biodiversity for the future.

from contaminating the rivers, they also contaminated groundwater and this greatly changed the pH of

According to the chart below leading up to the 2008 crisis the unemployment rate hovered right
around four to six percent. This percentage is right around where we are hovering today. After
analyzing the aforementioned FRED Civilian Unemployment Rate chart1 the leap in unemployment
rate can be pinpointed to 2008 after the housing bubble popped. The jump was quite substantial
beginning in February of 2008 at 4.9 percent and peaking in October of 2009 at 10 percent. This steep
jump was caused by the companies going into debt due to the recession and having to cut expenses by
laying off workers. What does the Troubled Assets Relief Program have to do with this? While at first

Leadership In Beowulf
A leader in any tale is an exceptional figure, whether good or evil, they also display tremendous
strength above all others be it physical, emotional or mental. Their qualities instill in them a reverence
that all of their subjects come to realize and respect. The role of leader is usually first assigned to a
different character and upon completion of his journey the main character usually becomes the leader
or a figure who has the potential to lead others, the leader is usually a well known, revered, however
they are alone, both figuratively and physically. Beowulf written by an unnamed poet has multiple
characters that the reader can identify as leaders, one whom is within the first five lines of the text.

Finding Meaning In Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
While writing about finding meaning in life, James Van Praagh said, We have all been placed on this
earth to discover our own path, and we will never be happy if we live in someone else s idea of life. In
Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha, a man goes on a quest to figure out who he wants to be and what he
wants to believe in. He meets up with old friends and encounters new people throughout the novel.
With that said, Siddhartha could not have found meaning in his life without separating from his
friends at some point. Hermann Hesse suggests that friendships need to be suspended in order to find
the right path in life, as shown by Siddhartha s friendships with Govinda and Kamala.

still need her and did she still need him? Siddhartha initially befriended Kamala to learn the ways of
love from her. He thought that he could reach enlightenment by living with her and learning new
trades. After a while, Siddhartha became sickened by everything he owned, but Kamala was content
living with her many possessions. Once Siddhartha realized that they wanted different things from
life, he left to find enlightenment somewhere else. From the day Kamala met Siddhartha, she knew he
was a traveler that did not stay in one place for too long. Hesse wrote, When she heard the news of
Siddhartha s disappearance, she went to the window where she kept a rare songbird... took the bird out
and let it fly away. The release of Kamala s songbird represents how Kamala feels about Siddhartha
leaving. She allows the bird to fly away just like she lets Siddhartha leave without going after him.
She understands that after living together for so long, he has learned as much as he can from her and
needs to move on. Even though Siddhartha loves Kamala, he did not find the meaning of life while
being near her and surrounded by riches, so he set off

Physical Evidence Analysis
Evidence can take the form of several types: Testimonial, Digital, Physical and Miscellaneous for the
ones that do not fit into the other three categories. Physical evidence are the specific items and objects

can be in the form of an object that is over turned and documented with photographs or something
tangible like trace evidence, fibers and hair that are transferred between a person and another or the
environment (Grenier, 2013). It is nationally agreed upon that physical evidence never lies, it

Argumentative Essay On White People
We live in a society where white people have the upper hand in almost every circumstance. It is hard
for most if not all white people to understand and comprehend this because privilege is hard to see for
those who were born with access to power and resources (Kendall 1). White people aren t judged by
the color of their skin or certain facial features they possess. Because of their looks, people of color,
specifically black people get shot in the back for walking down the street or just simply fitting a
description. Arab, middle eastern, and dark skinned south Asian people get accused of being terrorists.
White people get to parade around the streets in their pickup trucks blasting Tim McGraw and their
white hillbilly country music waving around multiple confederate flags, armed with loaded weapons,
and wearing white hooded masks that look like a dunce cap covering their entire face which fits,
because white people are a huge disappointment. And some white people are still ... Show more

The Two Modes of Cognitive Processing Essay
The Two Modes of Cognitive Processing
Models and experiments presented throughout the Cognitive Psychology course indicate that within
the Information Processing framework, 2 distinct modes of cognitive processing exist. The first,
concerned with low level cognition is characterised by processing which is parallel, automatic, bottom
up and not very limited by capacity. This is most clearly demonstrated by the number of things we can
hear simultaneously, see simultaneously, smell, taste and feel simultaneously. This type of low level
cognition, along with skills which have been proceduralised, can also be performed automatically;
performed without conscious attention. Automatic tasks do not ... Show more content on

The distinction between these two modes of cognitive processing, however, is not that clear cut. For
instance, tasks are not usually totally automatic nor totally attentional; when automatically swimming
up and down a pool, we may be focusing our attention on a piece of music, but we are also aware of
other swimmers and we usually pay enough attention to avoid swimming in to them. Neither is
processing usually exclusively top down or bottom up, most tasks involve both types of processing in
combination. Except maybe, when asleep, we are constantly receiving bottom up data through our 5
senses. We are also constantly reacting to these stimuli by applying top down interpretations from our
stored general knowledge representations.
On the face of it, perception would seem to depend heavily on bottom up processing (receiving data
from stimuli) and memory on top down, conceptually driven processing, as remembering depends on
retrieval of stored information. But in fact, perception can be affected by the perceiver s expectations
or by general principles such as size constancy, and remembering is performed in context, taking
account of environmental cues.
Gregory (1973) made use of visual illusions, such as the Ponzo perspective illusion to show how top
down processes affect perception. His view was that perceptions

Niue does not have a Bill of Rights guaranteeing fundamental rights or freedom from discrimination.

Gender Identity Disorder Research Paper
Gender identity disorder also referred to as gender variance, and in other cultures as two spirited, can
be described as the formal diagnosis that psychologists and physicians give to individuals who
experience reasonable gender dysphoria. Such individuals are not contented with the biological sex
that they possess and tend to strongly identify with the other sex. It is a psychiatric categorization and
describes characteristics that are linked to transgender identity, transvestism and transsexuality and is
the diagnostic categorization normally associated with transsexuals, or individuals who feel they were

opposite sex and would rather be recognized in public as members of the opposite sex. Many
individuals who are affected by gender identity disorder request for sexual reassignment surgery, or
more commonly referred to as a sex change operation (Kenneth Bradley, 2002).
Prevalence
The disorder normally affects more males than females in society. According to WebMD, in Europe,
there are 1 in 30,000 males and 1 in 100,000 females who are diagnosed with gender identity disorder
(WebMD Prevalence, 2006). Sometimes G.I.D. is mistaken with accompanied by transvestic

Advertising And Their Influence On Children
Ethics in advertising and their influence on children:
Introduction
Advertising has grown massively due to the expansion of technology and this has transformed the
advertising industry. Organisations are spending heavily in advertising to differentiate their brands and

Ethics in advertising has become critical in today s scandal ridden ere and it affects the practices of

Conflict, Irony, and Symbolism in Alice Walker s Everyday Use
In the short story Everyday Use , by Alice Walker, tension between characters is evident. When Dee
arrives home to visit Mama and Maggie, readers can see the differences in personality between the
three characters. Dee has changed her name to Wangero to get closer to her so called culture and is
collecting many objects of her past that she did not want before. On her mother s savings for her, Dee
is able to go to college and therefore is more educated. However, she uses this new knowledge to look
down on Maggie and Mama. One of the many objects of her past that Dee asks for is a quilt passed
down to the females of the next generation. Instead, Mama wants Maggie to have ... Show more

As Mama says, You know as well as me you was named after your aunt Dicie. Dicie is my sister. She
named you Dee. This is a little ironic. Even the mysterious boy she brings home, Hakim a barber, has
converts to Islamic ways but chooses only to accept certain doctrines of the religion when he refuses
to eat collard greens and pork. As he says, I accept some of their doctrines, but farming and raising
cattle is not my style. The irony is that it might not be a style , but how Mama and Maggie have to
live. They would not think of this as a style.
Finally, the story in its entirety is symbolism itself. The quilts are the main sources of symbolism are
the quilts, in how each piece of the quilt tells about the life of each member of a different generation
of the family. With Dee s new attitude, how would she use the quilts? Hang them , she says. Like the
quilts had little to no meaning to her at all. Dee says that Maggie cannot understand her heritage and
cannot appreciate these quilts. Magnanimously, Maggie agrees that Dee can have them so as not to
start a conflict. She says, I can member Grandma Dee without the quilts. This shows that Maggie is
more appreciative of her true heritage than Dee is. Dee believes getting in touch with your roots is a
new style of some sort. Dee doesn t consider that the very aunt who gave her, her name is the one who
made the quilts by hand. She only wants it to have as art. Another thing is how Dee discards her name

Who Is Creon A Tragic Hero
Tragic Heroism in Antigone In Greek Literature, there are three types of genres in stories. Those
genres would be classified as Romantic, Comedy or Drama. In class, we read Antigone, which would
be classified as a Drama because at the end she dies tragically due to her fate. Otherwise known as a
tragic hero. One real life example of one would be Martin Luther King Jr, his point of existence to be
a strong leader during the Civil Rights Era (1954 1968). Growing in power through speeches, he beat
the system and got what he aimed for, but sadly died because of James Earl Ray. In Antigone,
Sophocles shows that Creon is a tragic hero through the use of Indirect Characterization, Foil and
Hamartia.
Lines 185 through 240 (Page 326 327), Creon becomes King and says his acceptance speech.
Describing what he will be doing or changing in office in a very pridely manner. A good leader will
need that charistic in order to become successful. In his speech he tells everyone his goals, telling
them what he wants done. Using indirect characterization, a reader can easily conclude that King
Creon is a good leader and will bring prosperity in the future and that he is very proud of his stance of
his class. Sadly, his pride is one of his downfalls, dragging him down. ... Show more content on

King Creon does not listen, he even deeply regrets having his son and is extremely disappointed.

Windows And Windows Operating System
Windows has become a household name. The company logo is familiar to almost everyone across the
world. This revolutionary company has played a major role in the current technology explosion.
Windows was one of the first affordable operating systems that enabled computers to be more widely
available. Many changes and updates have been made to the Windows operating system to keep
Microsoft at the top of its market.
The history of Windows dates back to 1975 when Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded a partnership
called Microsoft. They had a monumental vision that there would be a computer on every desktop and
in every home (Microsoft, Era 0, para 2). Microsoft rewrote a previously purchased operating system
to support subdirectories and hard disks naming it MS DOS (Software Gems, para 3 5). This is short
for Microsoft Disk Operating System. MS DOS was an effective foundation that ran the personal
computer. However, it was difficult for users to master. Specific commands required memorization.
To combat the frustration caused by MS DOS, Microsoft released Windows 1.0 in 1983. Windows 1.0
was introduced as unique software designed for the serious PC user (Microsoft, Era 1, para 2) by Bill
Gates. Windows 1.0 enabled users to maneuver a mouse to point and click versus typing in difficult to
remember commands. This was not, however, the first operating system to use the point and click
technology. The low price is what really made Windows 1.0 stand out from the

Public And Private Financial Incentives
Summary: Public and private financial incentives are aligned as never before to encourage physicians
to adopt electronic health records. To aid in the transition, the government has also put billions into
training health information technology workers and establishing regional extension centers to provide
technical and other advice. Even so, progress is slow and obstacles remain. Chief among those
obstacles may be the investment of time required to transition to an electronic system. By Brian
Schilling In 2009 as part of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health
(HITECH) Act, the federal government set aside $27 billion for an incentive program that encourages

The Rewards of EHR Adoption For physicians willing to adopt EHRs, the financial incentives offered
by the federal government are substantial. The average physician with at least 30 percent of his or her
patients covered by Medicare is eligible for up to $44,000 in total incentives. A physician with at least
30 percent of his or her patients covered by Medicaid is eligible for even more, up to $63,750. To earn
any of that money though, physicians must do more than simply purchase an EHR system; they are
required to show that they have achieved meaningful use of that system in terms of improving quality.
At a minimum, that will mean having systems capable of e prescribing, reporting quality data, and
exchanging data among providers. As of May 19th, 320 health care providers (including 283
physicians and 37 hospitals) have received a total of $75 million in Medicare incentive payments for
demonstrating meaningful use of electronic health records. The relatively slow start was perhaps to be
expected to qualify for this first round of incentives, practices were required to not only meet certain
EHR requirements, but also sign up for the payments within the first two weeks they were available.
Many practices simply weren t that far in the process. More telling for the future of HIT may be the
number of physicians and hospitals that have registered

It Is Just A College Prep Class
Avid speech
First off, I d like to ask, What is AVID? For outsiders, they believe it is just a college prep class. In
some ways it is, but there is so much more to this class. Where teachers help us gain unique study
skills that bring us the ability to do better in school. They also provide a friendly environment that
helps us to gain better knowledge. They also help us build a career and set goals for our future.
They say a AVID has proven achievement and brings a lifelong Advantage. But it s not just the class it
s you. You can have your teachers and parents tell you school is important, but you have to believe in
yourself. And the teachers here understand that. They let you go and build you up to become someone

Theme Of Kingship In Macbeth
Shakespeare s plays, Henry IV, Part 1 (1H4) and Macbeth (Mac.), support the Tudor myth through the
representation of monarchy and the theme of a king s divinity. From a historical perspective,
Shakespeare portrays Henry IV and his descendants as unworthy of kingship as Henry IV disrupts the
divine right of kings and thus instigates the Tudor myth. This representation is implemented in order
to appease Elizabeth I through affirming her sanctioned appointment to the throne. The depiction of
kingship within Macbeth is similar as the monarch is demonstrated as disrupting the divine right of
kings through treason and regicide. However, Shakespeare s tragedy does so in order to attest to James
I of Britain s maintenance of the divine right of kings. This is achieved primarily through the
demonstrated polarity between Macbeth the tyrant and James, the king of England. Originating from
Henry VII of England, the Tudor myth is a device that describes Henry IV s disruption of natural
monarchical succession that ultimately required expiation and sovereign restoration in kingship. Its
premise relies heavily on the notion of the divine right of kings as it was believed that a monarch was
God s representative on earth (Hicks 15). Therefore, deposition was considered offensive and
unjustifiable before God and the people (Kiryanova 24) and thus it is believed that Henry
Bolingbroke, IV of England, sparked a series of successors undeserving of the throne. The restoration
of Henry IV s

Batman s Morality
Morality is defined as being principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good
and bad behavior ( Morality ). Most heroes are seen in a very controversial light, but Batman takes the
cake. Bruce Wayne, or Batman, is a vigilante hero who is looking for vengeance for his parents
deaths. Wayne has been known to kill many people in the comics and in some of the movies and TV
shows. Batman is a case of morality because he makes people question what is appropriate in messy

has over it s people. Batman only wants to better Gotham, which is why he s willing to endure the

(Davidson). Batman is a voice for the voiceless and shows the citizens of not only Gotham but for the
American citizen as well that they have a voice and that they can take control of an situation they feel
that they need to. He makes the government feel as if they are not safe and makes them question
everything they have ever done. Without Batman, some would not have the chance to speak up and

He, in the end of it all, shows that anyone can be a hero and that makes people feel uneasy and
question their own morality. The government wants people to obey and listen, but instead Batman
gives them hope and helps strengthen them by just being a helpful human that he is. Batman protects

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this experiment was to determine if soft drinks manufactured by Coca Cola use
phosphoric acid in their product formula. An analysis of their product concentrations of HCl and
H3PO4 was performed using the potentiometric titration method, with a standardized 0.1002 M NaOH
solution. The molarities of HCl and H3PO4 were determined by plotting the titration data, the first
derivative, and the second derivative of this data. The results of our analysis of the three trials found
the molarities of HCl to be 0.1232 M, 0.1232 M, and 0.1230 M, with a mean of 0.1231 M and an
average deviation of 0.8 parts per thousand. We are 95% confident that for this set of data, the true
mean lies within the range of 0.1228 and 0.1234 M. The molarities of H3PO4 were found to be 0.1709
M, 0.1706 M, and 0.1702 M, with a mean of 0.1706 M and an average deviation of 1 part per
thousand. We are 95% confident that for this set of data, the true mean lies within the range of 0.1698

The Differences Of The Odyssey By Homer s The Odyssey
Odyssey Essay!
The amazing epic poem by Homer entitled The Odyssey shares many similarities and many
differences as well with the Hallmark movie of the same name. The epic poem is about the hero
Odysseus who has spent twenty long years filled with toil and loss, through war and sea desperate to
return to his home of Ithaca. Odysseus has angered some of the gods and goddesses of a Greek
Mythology with his destruction of the mighty city of Troy. Odysseus is represented in the poem and
the movie, but there are several differences between the two in the events he encountered. There are
also numerous similarities
For starters, the setting of the movie and the poem are both centralized around Ithaca and scattered
Islands of Greece. The Greek mythology was also a main theme in the two, such as Odysseus s
protection by The goddess Athena and the hatred be Odysseus and Poseidon. One of the more difficult
aspect that the movie had gotten spot on was the displaying of Odysseus s leadership throughout the
God s (mainly Poseidon s) wrath and the ever enduring seas of Greece. However throughout all of the
hardships his crewmen remained loyal to him and his faith that they would one day return to the
shores of Odysseus s mighty Kingdom of Ithaca.
Another main similarity between the poem and the movie but put into more depth in the movie is how
the people of Ithaca where dealing with Odysseus s absence. Penelope stayed faithful to Odysseus
while also keeping the promise of marrying

The Great Hunger And The Irish Potato Famine
Intro The Great Hunger, Great Famine, the dreaded calamity, or if your outside of Ireland the Irish
Potato Famine. Occurring between 1847 1852, the famine claimed the lives of around one million
people and caused millions to flee Ireland, in order to escape the bleak situation it was. Today I will be
giving some background of life in Ireland before the famine started of the average citizen, I will
briefly discuss the pathogen that killed the potato crop, the government response to the famine, the
overall consequences and reactions of the Irish people, and finally I will discuss the ethical dilemmas
that the famine raise.
Slide one Land Ownership Starting off I would like to explain what life was like for the average Irish
citizen in the mid 19th century. Most people were tenant agriculture farmers who worked for
landlords, who owned vast estates, but a great deal of them didn t, in fact, live in Ireland, which lead
to them being commonly referred to as absentee landlords. The landlords allotted workers small plots
of land to grow their own food in exchange for working the land growing grain cash crops. In order to
sustain a high calorie diet for themselves and their families, most of these tenant farmers grew
potatoes. This was primarily due to the fact you get a lot of bang for your buck from potatoes as they
yielded quite a bit of calories per acre. Outside of what the tenants ate, Ireland produced quite a bit of
food but this was mostly exported to England where

Theme Of Remembrance In The Devil s Arithmetic
In the early 1940s, the Nazis, led by Adolf Hitler, wanted world domination. They invaded many
countries and sent many citizens to concentration camps. Many of those sent to the camps were
Jewish, and were murdered for their religion. Jane Yolen wrote The Devil s Arithmetic to remember
these events, known as the Holocaust. Jane Yolen s novel, The Devil s Arithmetic, delivers the
message of remembrance more aptly than Donna Deitch s film because of the character Rivka, the
sacrifices made, and the dehumanization.
The novel delivers the message of remembrance through Rivka s character. To begin, when Rivka is

the pain they felt. Deitch could believe that the film dehumanized the Jewish prisoners. She would be
incorrect in thinking this because in the film, Commandant Breuer says I m surprised at you ladies. By
referring to the group of women as ladies, Breuer is humanizing them. In addition, when the group of
Jews are being escorted out of the boxcars, Yolen writes that the dead baby was torn from its mother s

Essay on Texas s Political Culture
Political Culture
Texas political culture is one that can be described as a combination of three main ideas:
individualistic, traditionalism and moralism. Considering Texas and its overwhelming 254 counties we
can see these main ideas undoubtedly. The 254 counties each have their own general set of ideas,
attitudes and beliefs. The whole state of Texas is simply not just considered individualistic,
traditionalism, or moralism, it is considered all three. Individualistic, traditionalism and moralism are
all strong values that coexist in our society and they all affect how we as the people live our lives. A

Individualism is the belief of self reliance. Texas is also known for being on its own. Which leads to
its famous saying, you ve got nobody to blame but yourself. They are all about being the self made
man. An individualist prefers privacy, is suspicious of public institutions, and is an independent
contractor. This attitude ties into our low active government. Government is sought out to be at low
cost and out of the way of its voters. Texas government is very limited, and has a legislature that meets
biennially. Due to our isolation, public education is under funded and is at its high in many court
battles and legislative conflicts. The heart of individualism would be laissez faire. In Britannica,
laissez faire is the policy of minimum governmental interference in the economic affairs of individuals
and society. Laissez faire is basically telling government to leave them alone. The whole concept is to
keep minimum government interference in business.
Moralism is all about the community and a commonwealth. They are suspicious of private institutions
and interests. An example would be social security, social welfare programs, and public education
programs. A moralist is all about being equal with people, everyone needs a fair share. Austin Texas
has a lot of business there. They are big or moralism because of its big community.

setting. Throughout the entirety of the novel, readers are witnessed to a relationship between a man
and boy displaying their encounters in a corrupt dystopia. Following the death of his wife, the man
and his son embark on a journey through this setting in hopes of reaching the coast where they would

the profit and loss statement, during the whole period from the date of acquisition to the end of period
benefits are expected to arise. According to AASB 1013, goodwill must be measured as the excess
beyond the acquisition expenditure over the fair value of the identifiable asset. In order to determine
the amount of goodwill on acquisition, the purchaser needs to recognize the fair value of all the
identifiable assets acquired and the purchase consideration. Fair value of net identifiable assets equals
the sum of company s share equity. Purchase consideration is the amount that the acquirer is willing to
pay for the target company. The goodwill on acquisition is the amount difference between the
purchase consideration and the fair value of company s identifiable assets. However, the cost directly
relate to acquisition such as legal fees, stamp duty and other government charges, and professional
fees need to be included to determine the cost of acquisition.
Similarity and difference between acquisition premium and goodwill Both acquisition premium and
goodwill arise from company combination when one company acquire another company by pay
higher price than what the fair value of the acquired company is. However, goodwill on acquisition is
an asset which show in the financial statement and the benefit of it could be

Prior to the arrival of Europeans, land care was a major purpose in life for Aboriginal people and although their approach was entirely sustainable, they were actively intervening in the landscape. (Roberts, 2014) The damming of creeks created natural watering holes for their own use as well as attracting animals to the area, which incidentally resulted in a change in Australian landscape. Fire stick farming was used to promote the growth of valued plants, with plant species unable to survive fire and declining in numbers, and more resistant species, such as grass trees, eucalypts and acacias, dominating. The Two Modes of Cognitive Processing Essay The Two Modes of Cognitive Processing Models and experiments presented throughout the Cognitive Psychology course indicate that within the Information Processing framework, 2 distinct modes of cognitive processing exist. The first, concerned with low level cognition is characterised by processing which is parallel, automatic, bottom up and not very limited by capacity. This is most clearly demonstrated by the number of things we can hear simultaneously, see simultaneously, smell, taste and feel simultaneously. This type of low level cognition, along with skills which have been proceduralised, can also be performed automatically; performed without conscious attention. Automatic tasks do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The distinction between these two modes of cognitive processing, however, is not that clear cut. For instance, tasks are not usually totally automatic nor totally attentional; when automatically swimming up and down a pool, we may be focusing our attention on a piece of music, but we are also aware of other swimmers and we usually pay enough attention to avoid swimming in to them. Neither is processing usually exclusively top down or bottom up, most tasks involve both types of processing in combination. Except maybe, when asleep, we are constantly receiving bottom up data through our 5 senses. We are also constantly reacting to these stimuli by applying top down interpretations from our stored general knowledge representations. On the face of it, perception would seem to depend heavily on bottom up processing (receiving data from stimuli) and memory on top down, conceptually driven processing, as remembering depends on retrieval of stored information. But in fact, perception can be affected by the perceiver s expectations or by general principles such as size constancy, and remembering is performed in context, taking account of environmental cues. Gregory (1973) made use of visual illusions, such as the Ponzo perspective illusion to show how top down processes affect perception. His view was that perceptions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Public And Private Financial Incentives Summary: Public and private financial incentives are aligned as never before to encourage physicians to adopt electronic health records. To aid in the transition, the government has also put billions into training health information technology workers and establishing regional extension centers to provide technical and other advice. Even so, progress is slow and obstacles remain. Chief among those obstacles may be the investment of time required to transition to an electronic system. By Brian Schilling In 2009 as part of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, the federal government set aside $27 billion for an incentive program that encourages hospitals and providers to adopt electronic health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Rewards of EHR Adoption For physicians willing to adopt EHRs, the financial incentives offered by the federal government are substantial. The average physician with at least 30 percent of his or her patients covered by Medicare is eligible for up to $44,000 in total incentives. A physician with at least 30 percent of his or her patients covered by Medicaid is eligible for even more, up to $63,750. To earn any of that money though, physicians must do more than simply purchase an EHR system; they are required to show that they have achieved meaningful use of that system in terms of improving quality. At a minimum, that will mean having systems capable of e prescribing, reporting quality data, and exchanging data among providers. As of May 19th, 320 health care providers (including 283 physicians and 37 hospitals) have received a total of $75 million in Medicare incentive payments for demonstrating meaningful use of electronic health records. The relatively slow start was perhaps to be expected to qualify for this first round of incentives, practices were required to not only meet certain EHR requirements, but also sign up for the payments within the first two weeks they were available. Many practices simply weren t that far in the process. More telling for the future of HIT may be the number of physicians and hospitals that have registered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Theme Of Kingship In Macbeth Shakespeare s plays, Henry IV, Part 1 (1H4) and Macbeth (Mac.), support the Tudor myth through the representation of monarchy and the theme of a king s divinity. From a historical perspective, Shakespeare portrays Henry IV and his descendants as unworthy of kingship as Henry IV disrupts the divine right of kings and thus instigates the Tudor myth. This representation is implemented in order to appease Elizabeth I through affirming her sanctioned appointment to the throne. The depiction of kingship within Macbeth is similar as the monarch is demonstrated as disrupting the divine right of kings through treason and regicide. However, Shakespeare s tragedy does so in order to attest to James I of Britain s maintenance of the divine right of kings. This is achieved primarily through the demonstrated polarity between Macbeth the tyrant and James, the king of England. Originating from Henry VII of England, the Tudor myth is a device that describes Henry IV s disruption of natural monarchical succession that ultimately required expiation and sovereign restoration in kingship. Its premise relies heavily on the notion of the divine right of kings as it was believed that a monarch was God s representative on earth (Hicks 15). Therefore, deposition was considered offensive and unjustifiable before God and the people (Kiryanova 24) and thus it is believed that Henry Bolingbroke, IV of England, sparked a series of successors undeserving of the throne. The amazing epic poem by Homer entitled The Odyssey shares many similarities and many differences as well with the Hallmark movie of the same name. The epic poem is about the hero Odysseus who has spent twenty long years filled with toil and loss, through war and sea desperate to return to his home of Ithaca. Odysseus has angered some of the gods and goddesses of a Greek Mythology with his destruction of the mighty city of Troy. Odysseus is represented in the poem and the movie, but there are several differences between the two in the events he encountered. There are also numerous similarities For starters, the setting of the movie and the poem are both centralized around Ithaca and scattered Islands of Greece. The Greek mythology was also a main theme in the two, such as Odysseus s protection by The goddess Athena and the hatred be Odysseus and Poseidon. One of the more difficult aspect that the movie had gotten spot on was the displaying of Odysseus s leadership throughout the God s (mainly Poseidon s) wrath and the ever enduring seas of Greece. However throughout all of the hardships his crewmen remained loyal to him and his faith that they would one day return to the shores of Odysseus s mighty Kingdom of Ithaca. Slide one Land Ownership Starting off I would like to explain what life was like for the average Irish citizen in the mid 19th century. Most people were tenant agriculture farmers who worked for landlords, who owned vast estates, but a great deal of them didn t, in fact, live in Ireland, which lead to them being commonly referred to as absentee landlords. The landlords allotted workers small plots of land to grow their own food in exchange for working the land growing grain cash crops. In order to sustain a high calorie diet for themselves and their families, most of these tenant farmers grew potatoes. This was primarily due to the fact you get a lot of bang for your buck from potatoes as they yielded quite a bit of calories per acre.
