- Wheat is a major crop in Pakistan, accounting for 40% of total cropped area and 13.1% of value addition to GDP. However, wheat production faces numerous disease threats.
- Rust diseases such as stripe/yellow rust, leaf/brown rust, and stem/black rust cause substantial losses across Pakistan. New races of the pathogens have emerged over time, overcoming previously resistant wheat varieties.
- Major epidemics of yellow rust occurred from 1985-2006 due to the widespread cultivation of susceptible varieties like Veery 5. New resistant varieties with multiple genes are being developed and released to control rust diseases.
calculation of total feeds &fodders livestock in pakistan-pptDr. Waqas Nawaz
The document discusses the calculation of feed and fodder requirements for livestock in Pakistan. It provides information on crop production, seasons, livestock population, estimated fodder consumption by different animal types, and estimated annual fodder availability. The calculations show that buffalo require 14.32 million hectares of fodder, cattle require 10.77 million hectares, and other livestock together require approximately 50 million hectares, exceeding annual fodder production in Pakistan.
Most climate change campaigners focus on the fossil fuel sector.
While it's essential that we move away from fossil fuels if we're to avoid an ongoing climate catastrophe, we must also move away from animal agriculture.
The concept of the electric cow aims at providing some context to livestock's greenhouse gas emissions by comparing such emissions to those of: (a) electricity generated by fossil fuels; and (b) aluminium smelting, known within the industry as "congealed electricity" due to its enormous energy requirements.

This document discusses strategies to increase fish production in Indonesia through aquaculture intensification and extensification, which requires a stable supply of fish feed. It notes that Indonesia currently imports 50-80% of fish feed ingredients and proposes utilizing more local ingredients like palm kernel meal, rice bran, copra meal, and food waste to reduce reliance on imports. It also presents models for small-scale fishmeal production from local fish processing by-products and use of fermentation and silage technologies to preserve the nutritional value of the ingredients. Overall the document emphasizes developing sustainable local supply chains for aquaculture feed production.
Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms such as fish, shellfish, and plants. Major types include marine/brackishwater aquaculture of ocean species and freshwater aquaculture of native river/lake species. India is one of the top producers and exporters of aquaculture globally, dominated by species like carp, shrimp, and shellfish. The country faces challenges to its exports like market access issues, food safety concerns, and environmental impacts. It is addressing these through regulation, certification, traceability programs, and promoting sustainability and value-addition. Future prospects include growing demand, recognition of aquaculture as an economic sector, and greater awareness of sustainability needs.

Fish Seed Production and Rearing Center in Bodla, Chhattisgarh breeds Indian major carps (IMCs) such as catla, rohu, and mrigal. Healthy brooders are collected from nearby water bodies and held in an ante tank. Males and females are selected based on physical characteristics and injected intrapritoneally with the synthetic hormone ovatide to induce breeding. The dosed brooders are transferred to a breeding tank, with females outside and males within a enclosure. After 6-7 hours, spawning occurs and eggs are collected for incubation. The hatchery conducts all life stages of IMCs from breeding to nursery and rearing.
Aquaculture production will need to increase substantially to meet rising global demand for fish. By 2030, aquaculture will need to produce 30 million additional tons per year compared to current production levels. While aquaculture growth has slowed slightly in recent decades, continuing at around 6-7% annually, it is still expected to surpass capture fisheries as the primary source of fish for human consumption in the near future. Small-scale farmers currently produce a large percentage of aquaculture worldwide but often struggle to access international markets. Greater organization and coordination will be needed for small producers to effectively supply growing global trade in seafood. Environmental sustainability and responsible use of resources like fishmeal will also be important challenges for the aquac
An overview on ‘Agricultural Development in indeveloping India’RHIMRJ Journal
This document discusses agricultural development in India. It notes that while India introduced Green Revolution technologies in the 1960s that increased food grain production, India still lacks sufficient food grain production and has many poor people. The agricultural sector has potential to boost rural economic growth by creating jobs and marketing opportunities. However, productivity needs to be reformed to meet the rising demand for food from a growing population and changes in diets. Tables show India's largest agricultural crops by value and production amounts, demonstrating room for increased productivity compared to the most productive global farms. Fundamental changes are needed across the agricultural sub-sectors in India.
