Some examples of the 'top 10' front covers
Features of the 'top 10' covers
• Bold images
• Not as much text as some publications e.g. Inside Soap and Best
• Usually one main image, occasionally smaller images around
• More sophisticated house style than some of the Hearst
entertainment publications
• Lower text to picture ratio
• Higher quality images, not paparazzi style like some lower quality
publications
My Initial Thoughts
• I want to create a higher quality entertainment magazine as I feel as though
Hearst's entertainment magazines only offer lower quality publications with
gossip and paparazzi style pictures.
• By using higher quality images, I can broaden the publications that Hearst have
to offer. I can also include topics that have higher news values to offer Hearst's
readers an alternative from the limited variety of lower quality entertainment
sources.
• Including important and relevant news topics will also allow my readers to be
immersed in educational topics that are important to everyone in society.
• Educating my readership is a very important feature as they are 16-25,
meaning they will be the next leaders and people with the main roles in
society. This age group is also fairly impressionable, and so including powerful
people and their stories will hopefully have a strong impact on society.
