2. Title of my magazine – ‘magnetic’
• I have decided to call the title of my magazine ‘magnetic’ this is because rock/indie
music can be associated with metallic music, not only this but rock/indie fans often
to listen to indie/rock music because they relate to the lyrics and once they start
listening to the music they are stuck listening to it forever because they fall in love
with it, magnetic suggests it attracts things towards it which is exactly what
indie/music is. Most people don’t realise they are listening to indie music when
they are as they don’t often recognise that bands like Coldplay are indie. The word
‘magnetic’ is a good name to have as my title as I want my magazine to attract
people and buy it, that is the main concern when designing a magazine as you
want to draw people in, the name magnetic will give that a good start as magnets
attract to other magnets.
3. Genre
• The genre of my magazine is indie/rock, I chose this as the genre
indie/rock is very broad and the songs can sound very different, for
example Coldplay sounds very different to Acdc but they both fall under
the genre indie/rock. By having this genre I can cover a wide range of
artists which will make my target audience bigger as more artists will be
featured in my magazine. Indie/rock music is very different and people
who don’t want to perhaps follow the crowd of listening to pop music can
find indie music and relate to the lyrics. Indie/rock music is probably the
biggest genre of music that people aren’t too sure about because so many
different bands fall under the category, this means that people may want
to read an indie/rock magazine so they are more aware of the indie/rock
genre and can learn a bit more about it.
4. Target audience
• My target audience is going to be 15-25 year olds, this age gap
is very wide because if you put a 15 year old next to a 25 year
old there would be many differences nonetheless making a
magazine for this age group would work and be successful
because it would treat the younger ages with maturity as the
magazine wouldn’t be patronising and babyish. This magazine
is targeted at both genders because I learnt from my target
audience profile that both male and female can relate to
indie/rock music, therefore if I make the magazine unisex the
target audience is wider which will make it more popular if
more people but it.
5. Content of whole magazine
• I have chosen to add information on upcoming gigs, information about
existing bands, gossip, information about new music and interviews. If I
include all of this information I will be covering and including a lot of
content which will please the reader as they will be getting there moneys
worth of information. If people have no interest in reading about
interviews there will be plenty of other things they can read about which
also makes the magazine diverse as it includes various and different things
that cover different parts of the indie/rock genre.
6. Initial ideas for front cover
• The title of my magazine ‘magnetic’ will be at the top in a bold font in capital
letters. I will have one main picture of my artist that just cuts off below their
shoulders so the picture is a medium shot. Down the left of the magazine or at the
bottom on the left I will have a column that says ‘4 free posters inside’ this makes
the magazine seem good for its money and that it includes a lot of things. On the
right I will have a list of new music releases and will mention about 5 bands. The
person on the front cover will have done an interview which will also be
mentioned in my magazine and will be ‘exclusive’ I will have a quote from them
and then a page number so the person knows they can read more about it in the
magazine. The page number will be 27 because its quite far on in the magazine
which suggests the magazine has more interesting content in the front pages that’s
more important than the front cover.
7. Initial ideas for contents page
• Magazine title will still be at the top of the page, in the middle column I
will have pictures I have taken myself from various rock/indie concerts like
the foo fighters, royal blood and Mumford and sons and mention that
there is reviews on these gigs further on in the magazine. I will have
subcategories labelled reviews, new releases, gossip, news, features and
then page numbers under that with sub titles with information with
what’s on each page. At the bottom I will have extra things that are in the
magazine like posters, crosswords and competitions. I will also have the
word ‘exclusive used throughout to make the magazine seem like a one off
and a special version that they need to buy.
8. Initial ideas for dps
• One page of my double page spread will be a picture, on the other side it will have
the title and the text in columns, I will also add in pictures on the other side to
break up the text. I plan to do my dps on a concert and I will take pictures of
someone making them the main artist that performed.
9. Initial ideas for photographs
• I already have some pictures that I am going to use in my magazine I took
these photos at various concerts during this year (see on next slide). For
my pictures of my artist I plan to have a medium shot of my model in a
leather jacket and black jeans with quite natural make up with the sky as
the background because in my images you can see the sun setting over
the concert and it would fit the theme quite well.
