This is a presentation I gave in October of 2009 at the NZ national ULearn conference. It gives an outline of the journey I have taken with ePortfolios in my classroom over the last year and includes my reflections.
Presentation given for the National College Learning Center Association
In these unprecedented times, the face of higher education is rapidly changing, and our learning centers must adapt to find ways to help our students (the privileged and underprivileged) engage effectively with technology. The realities of how we support students and the services we offer them must adapt to the current shifts to online learning in their content courses. We must expand upon existing online services and/or develop new ones. We must also support/train our staff members to manage the new ways in which our learning centers must operate.
Learning centers professionals are going to have to think of ways to deliver services 100% online. We need to think about our staff (students and professionals) and how we train them as well as the ways in which we engage our students who might be struggling with the demands of shifting to new modes of learning. Join this evolving conversation in one or both webinars:
Part 1 - Identifying Immediate Needs - this week (3/20/2020)
How we can triage and respond in real time to a rapidly evolving change to our operations?
Part 2 - Planning for the Long-term - next week (3/27/2020)
How do we reflect, assess, resource for sustainability, and plan for future change?

The Beautiful, Messy, Inspiring, and Harrowing World of Online LearningGeorge Veletsianos
Keynote at the 2014 BCNET conference in Vancouver, BC. In this presentation I shared stories of learners' and scholars' experiences online, arising from multiple years of qualitative research studies, and framed in the context of the historic realities of educational technology practice. These stories illustrate how emerging technologies and open practices have (a) broadened access to education, (b) reinforced privilege, and (c) re-imagined the ways that academics enact and share scholarship. They also illustrate the multiple realities that exist in online education practice, and the differences between reality and potential and beautiful vs. ugly online education.

An Indistinguishability Model for Evaluating Diverse Classes of Phishing Atta...CSCJournals
Phishing is a growing threat to Internet users and causes billions of dollars in damage every year. While there are a number of research articles that study the tactics, techniques and procedures employed by phishers in the literature, in this paper, we present a theoretical yet practical model to study this menacing threat in a formal manner. While it is common folklore knowledge that a successful phishing attack entails creating messages that are indistinguishable from the natural, expected messages by the intended victim, this concept has not been formalized. Our model attempts to capture a phishing attack in terms of this indistinguishability between the natural and phishing message probability distributions. We view the actions performed by a phisher as an attempt to create messages that are indistinguishable to the victim from that of “normal” messages. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that places phishing on a concrete theoretical framework and offers a new perspective to analyze this threat. We propose metrics to analyze the success probability of a phishing attack taking into account the input used by a phisher and the work involved in creating deceptive email messages. Finally, we study and apply our model to a new class of phishing attacks called collaborative spear phishing that is gaining momentum. Recent examples include Operation Woolen-Goldfish in 2015, Rocket Kitten in 2014 and Epsilon email breach in 2011. We point out fundamental flaws in the current email-based marketing business model which enables such targeted spear phishing collaborative attacks. In this sense, our study is very timely and presents new and emerging trends in phishing.

I am Daibi Moitra and I am completing My Integrated MSc. from BIT Mesra. Currently completing my Digital Marketing Internship from The Sparks Foundation. I am sharing a Power point Presentation on the Digital Marketing/Social Media Marketing of different Functions of The Sparks Foundation.
One year ago I posted, "10 Social Media Best Practices in Higher Education" which has proven to be one of my most popular posts. This is not surprising, as many of my campus speaking engagements include covering such topics.
This top 10 list includes:
Implement a Social Media Strategy
Produce Quality & Accurate Content
Manage Platforms with Social Media Managers and Student Leaders
Use an Authentic and Transparent Voice
Represent the University/Division/Department Brand and University Resources
Collaborate and Support other University Social Media Pages
Respect Your Community
Dive into Data
Empower Influencers and Engage Audience
Get Internal Buy-In
Social media exists in the gray, so even these best practices could be scrutinized. Whatever your perspective, higher education needs more tools to aid in strategy development, especially since social media platforms change constantly.

Getting on board with REF requirements: games for early career researchersAlison McNab
A growing number of card and board games have been developed to enable early career researchers (ECRs) to engage with key concepts or elements of the research lifecycle. These games vary in complexity, the time needed to play them, and the required preparation time. However, most are free or low-cost and thus valuable for academic libraries seeking to engage with early career researchers, either to introduce or reinforce understanding of a topic, often as part of a training session.
This workshop will introduce delegates to a range of physical games related to research and publishing, review these in relation to the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF), and consider the potential of these games (and others yet to be devised) in supporting researchers in their own library setting.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

11. How do I do my job better?
Hi Judith,
This might sound a bit random, but because I have been working A LOT with marketing
for a variety of reasons lately, there is this idea that came up to my mind.
Basically the university provides FREE access to Mintel/Keynote reports through e-lib,
which I for example didn't know even existed until i started my marketing module.
My ultimate point is that if you communicated to biosciences students that there are
such things as Mintel/Keynote (free access through e-lib again) which are exceptionally
useful for commercial awareness boosting before interviews/assessment centres this
would probably benefit UoN student chances of getting a job!
Let me know what you think and if you have any questions!
Best wishes,

Where or what will I use to keep it?
With whom shall I share it?
How can I re-use it?
18. Group work
What informal CPD opportunities are you aware
of and/or participate in?
What benefits have you gained from doing so?
Do you share these? If so, with whom?
Do you record these?
