Inductive Method
 ONE WAY OF TEACHING GRAMMAR OF TARGET
LANGUAGE IS THAT ARE EXAMPLES TO THE STUDENTS
OUT OF THE EXAMPLES THE RULES ARE INDUCED
 THIS METHOD IS CALLED INDUCTIVE. THEN THEY ARE
ABLE TO INDUCE RULES I.E. IN SUCH SENTENCE THE
FIRST FORM OF VERB IS USED WITH I , WE , THEY AND S
OR -ES IS USED WITH THE VERB IN CASE OF HE , SHE
ETC.
Objectives of Inductive Method
 To weld thought with expressions
 To create derived linguistic skills in the pupils –
reading, writing and understanding
 To provide complete opportunity for pattern
practice
Advantages of inductive Method
It breaks the monotony in the class rooms by
making teaching more interesting though
situational technology and performing action.
 It lays emphasis on the teaching of functional
grammar
 There is enough pattern practice which
ultimately tends to incidental
learning
Disadvantages of inductive
method
 It requires Competence on the fort for the teacher
teaching English by using approach
 It consumes a little more to teach particular
grammatical concepts as compare to teaching
through grammar translation method
Deductive Method
 In deductive method , the teacher tell the rules to
learners and then apply those in different situation
of language learning.
 e.g. I form of verb is used with I , we , you , they
and with he , she , it we use I form of verb +s or
es
I write a letter every day
 We speak the truth
Principles of Deductive method
 Those who teach by this method do not realize
the necessity of associating through the
expressions
 Hence stores is laid stress on the teaching of
formal grammar
Advantages of Deductive method
 This approach saves a good deal of time of the
teacher.
 It makes the teaching an easy going job.
Disadvantages of Deductive
method
 It ignores “Oral aspect” of the languages
 It does not help in giving enough pattern practice
 It does not provide any syntheses between
thoughts and expression
