The fishing industry in India is the second largest producer of fish in the world and makes significant contributions to the national economy. It employs over 14.5 million people and contributes over 1% to India's annual GDP. Fish production has been increasing in India from 3.84 million metric tonnes in 1990-91 to 10.79 million metric tonnes in 2015-16. There is growing domestic and export demand for fish and fishery products due to their health benefits. The Blue Revolution aims to increase fish production, modernize the industry, and ensure food and nutritional security through employment and export earnings.
