Higher education in India has the third largest system globally after China and the US. It begins after 12 years of schooling and offers a wide range of courses. The historical roots trace back to ancient institutions like Nalanda and Taxila, though there was a lack of development during medieval and British rule. Post-independence, the government has reformed and strengthened the system through various commissions and regulatory bodies. Currently, India has over 1,000 universities and over 50,000 colleges catering to over 37 million students.

The document discusses several issues with India's higher education system and proposes solutions. It notes that while India has the second largest higher education system, only 6% of the eligible population accesses it, below developed countries. The key issues discussed are: education promotes rat racing over critical thinking; skills taught are irrelevant for jobs; students lack entrepreneurial ambition; and education fails to reduce social disparity. Solutions proposed include public-private partnerships, industry-academia connections, funding increases, e-learning, uniform standards, and forming an Indian Higher Education Service. The overall goal is for higher education to better prepare students for an unpredictable future.
The education system in India follows different boards like CBSE, IGCSE, and ICSE as well as state boards. It faces issues like lack of sufficient funding, resulting in infrastructure and resource deficiencies. Higher education is also expensive, restricting access. Additionally, the system neglects Indian languages as the primary medium of instruction, especially in science, and has high illiteracy rates at one third of the population. The outdated education system has seen little change to address these problems.
The document discusses problems in the Indian education system. It notes that while India spends a significant amount on education equivalent to 3.5% of its GDP, it still has low enrollment rates globally and many infrastructure issues. Some key issues include a lack of drinking water and toilets at many schools, high dropout rates, and a focus on rote learning over problem solving. The system is described as "over-regulated and under-governed."

This study examined the potential of using the drug ribavirin to target the oncogene eIF4E in breast cancer cells. eIF4E is overexpressed in over 50% of breast cancers and promotes tumor growth. Ribavirin inhibits eIF4E function and reduced proliferation, clonogenic survival, and levels of eIF4E targets like cyclins in several breast cancer cell lines, with varying sensitivity. Ribavirin treatment was also associated with decreased Akt phosphorylation. Analysis of breast cancer biopsies found elevated eIF4E levels compared to normal tissue, supporting further study of ribavirin as a potential breast cancer therapeutic.

Digital and electronic libraries provide access to electronic resources like e-journals, e-books, databases, and institutional repositories. For college libraries, digitizing materials like annual reports, faculty publications, and student works can create a digital collection. Information literacy training is important for students and teachers to effectively search digital libraries and other resources. Library services are expanding through tools like TOC alerts, tutorials on databases and search engines, and using Google Scholar, Books and Sites to create subject guides, booklists, and more.

Digital libraries in india an analytical study by dr. amjad aliKishor Satpathy
This document analyzes the status of digital libraries in India through a survey of 25 digital libraries. It finds that while digital libraries are growing in India, there is still room for improvement. This document outlines a presentation on everyday information literacy. It begins with introducing definitions of information literacy and contrasting perspectives from different organizations. It then discusses several studies on information literacy in specific contexts and communities. A model of an "information landscape" is presented, consisting of epistemic, social, and corporeal modalities of information. Attendees then reflect on and discuss their own information landscapes. The role of public libraries in supporting citizens' information literacy is debated. Challenges and opportunities for libraries are also considered.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
