Introduction
About the Community
• Geographical Location: Baliyawali Talai,a village situated 1km interior to the
Jaipur – Delhi Highway in Gram Panchayat Labana, Block Amer, Dist. Jaipur
known for its rate of migration of local people due to scarcity of water. Located
in the midst of sandy ground with the distances between the hamlets and far
from the water resources.
• Cultural Background: A village with the majority of population of Meena,
Gurjar and Brahmin community with a orthodox traditional background of “Peeli
Lungdi Lambo Ghunghat”, a Veiling system, females not allowed to go outside
or giving more exposures. People mainly depends on Agriculture and Labor
work in NREGS or migrating to the other places.
• Role of Satya Bharti School in the Village: A tremendous work done by the
Satya Bharti School from the last two years, encouraged girl child enrollment
and retention. Enrollment of 113 students from the very small catchment area
and in spite of the presence of other private schools. People now understands
the importance of education and dignity of women in the society.
• Participation in ‘Design for Giving’ School Contest: Near about all the
community members participated in the campaign to be a part of this revolution.
There was unexpected response from the community, all are supported us and
the appreciated and encouraged the students too much.
The village is a true victim of water
crisis and witness of the past decade
when every people was faced this
problem. Being provoked with the
idea to make aware the people how
we can manage such situations where
there is not any answer from the
nature nor government. People are
migrating, quit agriculture and bound
to be a labor, hanged in the clutches
of local money lenders. It is wonder
that a good rain after the long interval
of about fifteen years brought hope
and happiness over the faces of native
dwellers.
We ‘Felt’:
Dry Pond and Drought like situation
in Baliyawali Talai
• We think to conserve water, by introducing
water conservation methods and techniques
by public participation and community
volunteering and community resource
mobilization. Almost every one has
understood that each droplets counts for the
living and prosperity. Turning this urge into
a movement we found an opportunity to
teach, enable and empower the community
by implementing a prospective project to
preserve the rain water for further usage and
recharge the underground water level by an
easily approachable watershed and rain
water harvesting project.
We ‘Imagined’:
Watershed Model by the Students
• Focused group discussion with the community
members with Social Mapping and Resource
Mapping and Rallies and Effective use of IEC
• Approach to build Dabri in the identified areas
• A foot march of 5 kms. in the neighboring
villages by the community to spread the
concept and associate the other people to this
campaign
• Bori Bandh making to store the water in one
place and resist to spread it unnecessarily and
prohibit soil erosion and Roof water harvesting
We ‘Did’:
• Till 5 dabries were made after the impact of this campaign and in the future
more will be created.
• Participated in a mob in a foot march to spread the concept and associate more
people to the campaign.
• Physical participation of the community for the bori bandh making to the
centrally located pond and pond deepening.
• Till 2 houses were incorporated and installed this technique after the campaign
and in future expected more and more.
• 40 people from the community were participated in it including Sarpanch,
Vice Sarpanch, Ward Panch, elders, youths etc. A group discussion to assess
the outcomes and impact of this movement and to make the future plan for the
sustainability of the initiative has been taken by the small students of their
own village and for their village development with their social empowerment.
Impact on Community:
•Impact of program on community/group directed at
• Students are now more motivated now.
• Encouraged to take initiatives.
• Can plan and implement.
• Enhanced leadership and team spirit among the students.
• Ignited the feeling of ownership among the students
• There is now more association and bonding among students to
think innovatively and creatively.
• It is now reflected that our students proved the theory of Bloom
Taxonomy – Recall, Knowledge, Comprehension, Application,
Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation through this campaign
• Teachers were feel more empowered in the process of
execution and implementation and wined the more faith of the
people.
• Teachers got appreciation and positive responses from the
community, which added jewel to their rapport and identification
Impact on Us:
•Impact of program on teachers and students
Experience of Community Members & Teachers:
• Arvind Meena (Ward Panch, Gram Panchayat Labana) – We are greatly
impressed through this initiative has been taken by the students of “Bharti ki
School” and enjoying to be a part of the campaign, we will soon implement
the idea to give proposal to the gram panchayat for the proper support in all
respect and will take it to the sustainability and fruitfulness.
• Mamta Sharma – I am very excited to be a part of it and will proud to
support the campaign without hesitating as it is showed by our small students
especially girls that as a female what is our potential and caliber. If such
small students will whole heartedly wandering in this sunlight for their own
village development than I am so young to take any kind of such initiatives.
• Anju Sharma – We are feeling very happy that such kind of thing happening
in our village since in the past years not any such things was happened and
now these things are happening we are welcoming to this campaign and
definitely we will save water for the generation next.
• Prahlad Sahai Gurjar (HT) – Feeling on the top, so much excited and
passionate for this contest and want to win it anyhow because we paid lots of
efforts to make this movement successful and meaningful. Spend days to
facilitate and motivate our students to participate in it and perform well. The
movie made to our campaign is the reflection of our dedication and
commitment
•Quotes from community members, teachers and students
• At least 15 Dabries in the catchments area of the village with the thought “har ekar
par ek dabri”, roof water harvesting process, conserving natural rain water fall and
using it for the purpose of irrigation and drinking and other domestic purposes, pond
deepening and boundary building (medbandi) through more Bori Bandhs.
• Gram panchayat proposal from the village members to get support from the
government agencies.
• Creation of Nav-Yuvak Mandal, Saathin Comitee and Elders association for such
kind village development activities
• Decision of the community for one more pond deepening and out sourcing more and
more cement bags for the bori bandh’s purpose (the very cost-effective technique to
store water has been in introduced in Design for Change)
• Making arrangements to irrigate the agricultural lands from the available water.
• In a shortage of rainfall, protection of “Kharif Crops” and making probabilities for
the “Rabi Crops”.
• Maximizing agricultural production and minimizing rate of migration from the
village.
The Road Ahead…..(in the next 3 months)
•Action plan for Community Development Campaign
