energy or mineral exploration and development, Yellowstone provides a unique opportunity to
research an undisturbed major volcanic system and the temporal and spatial changes that occur
naturally (Hurwitz Lowenstern, 2014).
This report discusses the history of Yellowstone volcanic complex over the past 2.1 million years,
eruptive style, compositions, associated hazards and the structure of the magma chamber. In addition,
we look at areas into which research is currently occurring or should in the future, and discuss a
strategy for monitoring and forecasting of future activity.

Over the past 2.1 million years, three large eruptions with widespread effects have occurred in the

For our senior project, we analyzed cyclical steam injections in a heavy oil reservoir using reservoir
simulations. We began the project as though we had been contracted to analyze a cyclical steam
injection project in a pay zone similar to the Clearwater formation in Cold Lake, Alberta. In this
heavy, dead oil reservoir the facilities, injectors, and producer are already set up in the field with a
seven spot orientation. The company wants further analysis on the project once the market declined,
requesting reservoir simulations be conducted over a six year period before proceeding. Through the
program CMG STARS, we were able to simulate production in a field with similar characteristics,
employing field data from technical papers referenced in this paper. The complex equations
simultaneously solved in CMG STARS including multiphase fluid flow and conservation equations
make the program an invaluable reservoir evaluation tool. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to
monitor the production responses to changes in steam injection parameters, compiling over 40
simulations. The injection was optimized with a total of 35 simulations after identifying the most
significant parameters impacting production. Net present values and cumulative production of oil and
water were analyzed to construct a recommendation for the project. In this paper, we will discuss the
model construction, sensitivity analysis, optimization, and economic analysis in greater detail.

average for time period of 10, 100 and 200 day each. I also calculate centered moving average for
each of the case of moving average. Moving averages smooths data to form a trend following

I observe from the above graphs and excel calculations that trend moving average deals with the point
of time where I don t get exact time point. In case of centered moving average calculations are done
for exact time point. A moving average can help cut down the amount of noise on a price chart. To
have a basic idea about which way the price is moving; it is suggested to look at the direction of the
moving average. If angled up, the price is moving up overall. Else if, angled down it would imply that
