Selecting a Political Party Essay
There is one right given to americans that seems to stand for all of the rights and that is voting. The
right of voting is the right given to all Americans who are at least eighteen years old. Voting is the
foundation in which Americans can gain more rights. For most being American and voting is a big
deal. Most will say it s our constitutional right. Voting is knowing that the person or people that one
decides to choose represents him or her. The people who are voted into a office will ultimately be
making governmental decisions for Americans. These decisions represent and reflect the American
people whether they like them or not.
Nevertheless if one is voting he or she has to make a choice between what political party will best ...

Still, I did have to see the very options that democrats provided for Americans. Who were the faces of
democrats? Then I began to notice people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were the faces of a
democrat. Honestly, I took a liking to them; they didn t look like ones typical politician. They were
both minorities in their positions in government; Hillary a female who ran for president, Barack
Obama I man whose skin wasn t of the majority and is now president. Democrats seemed to be
making history and that caught my eye. The democrats seemed to be all full of new ideas and
movements it became apparent that they might be for me. But even so I needed to know what was
great about the other political party.
Republicans or people who believes in or supports the republic form of government, was the next
political party that I looked at. Subsequently, I had to take a look at the word republic, to understand
what it meant. According to Merriam Webster.com, it means a country that is governed by elected
representatives and by an elected leader (such as a president) rather than by a king or queen. After
reading that definition I began to think to myself what republicans stand for also has to do with the
American idea. Republicans had history with

Low Voter Turnout In Canada
Historically Canadians have been participating less in elections for many years. The highest turnout
rate was 79.4% in 1958. The 2011 elections was the first in many years in which Canadians were
concerned enough to go vote, 61.4% participated which shows an increase from the 2008 elections in
which only 59.1% participated.
The decline in voter turnout is mostly awarded to the younger generations. They represent the
category of people that participate the least in elections. During the 2011 elections, 38.8% of people
aged 18 to 24 voted, which is an augmentation from the 37.8% in the 2008 elections (Barnes, Andre,
and Erin Virgint, 2010). After a study done by elections Canada, it was showed that the new
generations of voters are less likely to exercise that right today, than they would have some years ago
Only a third of first time voters today are actually voting, half the rate of a generation ago. ( Ibbitson,
John, 2011) Another reason for the turnout decline could be awarded to the lack of interest; Statistics
Canada did a poll in which they asked people who had not voted why they had done so, and 28% said

In Australia, the voter turnout is approximately 94% of the citizens who are registered vote. But while

politically engaged electorate is nonsensical. If we moved to a voluntary system, with the level of
disenchantment and disengaged voters we have now, no one would vote (Beck, Katie, 2013). Internet

The Effects Of Pregnancy On Your House
By week 36 you may want to clean your house and make sure that it is spic and span, awaiting your
little one. This phase of pregnancy is called the nesting stage, which is nature s way of making sure
you have time to be with your baby after delivery with no household chores holding you back. While
it is a natural tendency to want everything done, don t go overboard. Remember that you are in your
third trimester and need to take it easy. Changes happening to your body in week 36 Thanks to the
nesting instincts in you, all the exhaustion of the third trimester gets replaced completely by a renewed
sense of vigor. Here are the major physical changes happening to you in week 36: Getting into a
comfortable sleeping position becomes harder by the day. With only two sides to switch between, you
may find that your hips are aching from the pressure. Try cushy, comfortable pillows or a padded
blanket around and underneath you. They will cushion your hips, relieve the ache and help you fall
asleep faster. Most babies get into a head down position by now. When they do, you might discover
that the bathroom becomes your home. Do not reduce your water intake in the hopes of making fewer
bathroom trips. Try reducing the caffeine intake as coffee and tea are known to be diuretics. Walking
might get difficult if your baby moves into a cephalic presentation or head down position. It feels like
your baby will fall out if you move. It is just the pressure of your baby s head against the

Hiroshima, By Robert Lewis, Co Pilot Of Enola Gay
Just how many Japs did we kill? I honestly have the feeling or groping for words to explain this or I
might say my God, what have we done? written by Captain Robert Lewis, co pilot of Enola Gay over
Hiroshima, Japan, presently after 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945. The too large gust of wind, and the
looming mushroom cloud rising over the blackened city were all vaguely mentioned in his captain s
log. A small sketch of the first ever nuclear warfare attack can be found hastily scribbled on the back
of Lewis s log that was later stowed away, the sight destined to plague his mind in the years to follow.

Many United States governmental personnel were aware that victory was assured at this point.
According to General Henry Hap Arnold, Army Air Forces commander, as stated in his 1949 Global
Mission, It always appeared to us that atomic bomb or no atomic bomb the Japanese were already on
the verge of collapse (Weber.) Though Japan was the first to attack the United States that did not mean
the war would follow in their favor. When the ending months of World War II came around it had
become clear which country had the greater advantage, and whom ultimately stood on top. The
resources available, damage taken, and military readiness deciding that the United States had already
won. The truth being that Japan had already lost months before Hiroshima was attacked. The Japanese
military had no way to make a comeback, and using a nuclear weapon when this was so obviously
clear is undeniably unwarranted. Due to Japan s dwindling position in the war, turning the tides stood
nearly impossible; nonetheless they remained loyal to their Emperor in never giving up. Japanese
soldiers believe that death came before betraying their country. However, several powerful Japanese
military personnel had realized that to preserve Japan itself, surrendering was a small price to pay over
annilliation. After the Hiroshima attack on August 19, 1945, an article was published on the front page

Invasive Species
In 1996, the Asian Longhorn Beetle made its way into the New York and New Jersey creating the
decimation of the forests. The Asian Longhorn Beetle has so far caused the cutting of over 10,000
trees in New Jersey, and quarantine of 109 miles in New York today . The spread of this foreign beetle
has created great impacts on the environment. The Asian Longhorn Beetle is an invasive specie, a
harmful specie from another locations, mainly other countries, that has ended up in a foreign habitat.
As time has progressed, invasive species have continued to come into our environment more
frequently creating many unforeseen consequences. The relationship of invasive species within the

Before the crisis of invasive species destroying the environment, it was normal for people to dump
invasive species into lakes, streams, and rivers, but in today s society, releasing and bringing invasive
species into the environment has come to a near existent halt.
When the Welland Canal was built in 1829, it created more connecting routes between the Great
Lakes. In addition, it allowed larger boats to make their way upstream into the lakes when previously,
only smaller, local boats were able to travel in the small rivers and streams. Allowing the larger boat
meant that it would speed up the process of invasive species being brought into the great lakes. On top
of that, this was greatly increased by the lack of cleaning of the canals which allowed many boats to
get from one lake to the next without being hosed down allowing species to survive and flourish. One
of these many species was well known aquatic weed called Curly Pondweed. It was brought into the
Great Lakes in 1879 and quickly spread, growing until it was so overabundant that the sunlight was
blocked from entering the water. The lack of sunlight caused many fish and other aquatic organisms to
die due to the lack of oxygen. This lack of oxygen created a vacuum that destroyed the majority of the
organisms in the lake only allowing the few that were able to survive with very little oxygen. The
Curly Pondweed was one of the organisms that destroyed the Great

The Book Of Daniel
Although it has not always been recognized as management, management has been around since the
beginning of human kind. Management functions can even be seen in the Bible. In the book of Daniel,
Daniel is seen using the four management functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.
Planning
Through careful planning, Daniel was given permission to not defile himself with the portion of the
king s meat, nor with his wine. Daniel, a man of the Lord, had purposed in his heart to obey the Lord.
He knew that if he ate of the king s meat, and drank of the king s wine that the Lord would not be
pleased. Daniel made a request to the prince of the eunuchs to be excused from eating the king s meat.

flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king s meat. They had achieved a fairer and
fatter countenance than those that ate of the king s meat. Then Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah
went before the king and proved to the king that they were far superior than all the other men that
stood before the king as stated in Daniel 1:19 20, And the king communed with them; and among
them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the
king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them
ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. Daniel used the
controlling function when he outperformed all the other men.
Application: I can apply this function by comparing my team to the other teams around me. By
comparing my team to other teams, I can asses and fix the areas I need to improve in by comparing
my team to other teams. Also, I can observes the areas that I have been successful in and continue
doing what I am doing.

The Advancement of Computers
Computers are one of the most important inventions ever. If computers had not been invented,
technology would not be developed to its current state.
Since the computers invention, society has changed drastically. Computer technology is so helpful,
that it is even used to create newer, better computer equipment. Almost everything today is linked in
some way, to computers. Before computers were invented, very little was known about outer space.
With the technology we have now, we are learning new things everyday.
Computers are used to follow the paths of asteroids and predict their future movements. On 6

is it could end all money based crime. Because the person could cancel their old number and get a new
one at anytime, it would be pointless to steal one s cash card. It would be like robbing someone for a

Computers have revolutionized meteorology, allowing us to predict with good accuracy how the

The National League Of Major League Baseball
Should there be a designated hitter in the national league in major league baseball? That is the
question that is being asked around major league baseball by fans, owners, managers, and the players.
If a team is playing in an American league ball park both teams must use a designated hitter in place
of the pitcher. If a team is playing in a National league ball park both teams pitchers must hit instead
of having a designated hitter. This is set to give each league an advantage when playing in interleague
games because National league teams normally carry an extra pitcher while American league teams
normally carry an extra hitter. However, injury concerns, numbers, and entertainment factors play a
huge part in the designated hitter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An injury like this is more of a freak accident rather than an injury that could be prevented. A line
drive up the middle that hits the pitcher may look bad, but in most cases they usually only miss a few
starts. Generally it is concussions which there are proper protocols for concussion related incidents.
This year two National league pitchers have been injured while hit. That may not necessarily seem
like a high number, but it is when it is related to pitchers. Adam Wainwright is the ace of the St. Louis
Cardinals and this year he had a season ending injury while he was leaving the box to run to first. In
this example, the cardinals lost their ace for the year. Teams do not want to see their ace or any
pitchers go down because it could affect their playoff aspirations. Even though Wainwright went down
the cardinals are currently in first place of their division. They even have two pitchers with 10 wins or
more, but it does not always happen like that. Take the Chicago Cubs for example who are currently in
the race to be in position to contend for a wild card spot. Jon Lester is their best pitcher on their staff.
This would ultimately end their season over something that could have been prevented if he was
injured while at the plate. Major league baseball teams do not want to lose a great pitcher over
something that could be avoided. Many people believe that this could be solved if the

Philosophical Fragments By Soren Kierkegaard Essay
In Søren Kierkegaard s book, Philosophical Fragments he first prefaces his writing by explaining his
own inadequacy to do so. It is his desire to deliberate upon the actuality of truth and it s application to
the human existence, but in order to do so, he deemed it necessary to admit that What is offered here is
only a pamphlet...without any claim to being a part of the scientific scholarly endeavor... (Preface 1 IV
176). Near the end of his preface Kierkegaard, in efforts to convey his intent to write without bias,
claims he will not share his opinion (IV 178). Upon establishing his character as a writer, Kierkegaard
divulges into what he calls his Thought Project as is found in part one of Philosophical Fragments. In
this section he starts by contemplating if indeed truth can be learned, and bases a lot of his
understanding and philosophical thought on the influences of socratic idealizations. Based upon this
thought process, it is established that all learning and seeking are but recollecting. Thus the ignorant
person merely needs to be reminded... (A.6 7 IV 180). Kierkegaard then further expounds upon the
processes of learning in order to establish a foundation for his Thought Process pertaining to the
teacher and the follower. According to kierkegaard, The teacher is to be the occasion that reminds the
learner, he cannot assist him to recollect that he actually does know the truth, for the learner is indeed
untruth (B. b. 25 IV 184). So in saying this it

to show other youths their strength and endurance and of course to impress the girls. In a way their
present participation in the Sun Dance takes place of the vision quest as a mark of the attainment of
adulthood(Earhart, p. 306).
The girls also have rites of initiation. One that is much more involved and detailed, and has many
more taboos associated with them. For example, if a girl is in her menstrual cycle, she is considered to
have evil spirits around her, and she must be separated from the rest of the tribe so as to not have the
spirits cause trouble for others(Earhart, p. 307) The age at which girls begin to menstruate is the first
sign that initiation must take place. She abstains from eating meat but may eat roots and drink water.
After a few days or maybe a week, the girl appears again, shrouded in new cloths and painted

The Shashoni boys (out of choice) learn the positives of boasting.
Although they don t necessarily depend on the Sun Dance as the deciding factor for passing into
manhood, it gives them a chance to be in a position of authority, or power which often is needed in
adulthood. The more enduring, and well executed dance, the more attractive they look. It could lead to

The Safety Of Elderly Drivers
A 79 year old Florida woman backed over seven pedestrians Sunday morning while backing out of a
handicapped space in a church parking lot killing three people (Baldacci). More and more accidents
have been described in the media where an elderly driver had been driving and people passed away as
a result of a car accident. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), elderly
drivers have higher rates of fatal crashes, based on miles driven, than any other group except young
drivers, the high death rate can be explained due to older peoples frail health older people are less
likely to survive an injury than younger people. Elderly driver s accidents have started the discussion,
how to prevent these accidents and the government has only come up with one solution revoke elderly
drivers driving license, which seems to be an extreme measurement. It is important, that accidents
involved elderly drivers would be prevented. Aging is a natural process of all living beings, passing a
certain age, many skills and abilities start to deteriorate, for example, vision, hearing and reaction
time, which are important for drivers. However, many older people continue to drive despite having
lost their motor skills, therefore, older drivers put other people and themselves at risk of being
involved in an accident. In 2009, more than half of deaths in crashes involving drivers over age 65
were older drivers themselves, 12% percent were their passengers and 28% of these

Columbine And Sandy Hook Pop Up
When thinking about school shootings names like Columbine and Sandy Hook pop up. Those are the
most tragic by far, however everyone always ask why such a horrible crime happens, but no one has
never stopped and researched why such hate crimes like those happen. Instead people resort to
Channel 2 or Fox 5 for answers, not realizing that their story isn t the full truth. I am truly against
school shootings; looking for answers myself. If there s one thing I ve picked up from the media is
how they portray school shootings with mental illness, but according to Alfred.edu/teen violence says,
They want to get back at those who hurt them or revenge. Many adults always struggled to realize
why things as vigorous as shootings happens; also fail to realize they are the start of something so
tragic. There are several reasons that lead to a school shooting but only five are common. Revenge as
Justin Nutt states, Is pure hatred showed to relieve stress. (Nutt, J. Dec 14). Many articles tend to base
their beliefs over school shootings on revenge, because of the age and choice of a crime. These crimes
are not random; are particularly committed by an older age male seeking to let go of some type of
stress. You can even use the Florida State shooting in 2014 as an example, The FSU shooter was
dealing with emotional and physiological problems. (Rossman, S., Etters, K.) The student was a

very important reason why it is beneficial; new media provides a platform for the voices of the

Various sources have reported that social media has given the LGBT community a voice by bringing

Irish Immigration In The 19th Century Essay
An American Immigrant Journey: A Look at Asian and Irish Immigration in the 19th Century Many
different people have many different stories to tell when talking about how they ended up in America.
Some people had the choice to migrate to America in hope of a better life, while others were forced
against their will to do so. Being American in America seems much more than just being a United
States citizen, it has to do more with how they fit in with those who call themselves American. Re
word The Irish immigration in the 19th century was a necessary move for those who wanted to live.
Ireland underwent a famine and many of the Irish were starving and dying due to lack of nutrients and
disease that took over Ireland. Many Americans had problems with these new Irish immigrants simply
because it seemed like they provided America with no benefit at all. Not only did the Irish come to
America not being able to provide benefit for the country, but they were also very Catholic while in
the 19th century, America was a Protestant country. These are two probably probable? reasons the
Irish were discriminated against throughout the 19th century. When they first arrived, to the
Americans, it seemed like the Irish could not be trusted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

different ones. Unlike the Irish, they the chinese were good for work, meaning that they could provide
benefit to wherever they worked. The Irish lied about their previous work experience in order to work

Hotel California Poetic Devices
In the Eagles song, Hotel California, the speaker describes their freedom in California before coming
across this hotel with beautiful women. Unfortunately for him, everything was not as it seems. The
song is very light and cheerful in the beginning, hinting at themes of innocence. Although later in the
song, the hotel takes on a slightly darker look as the speaker discovers its real purpose. In the song,
Hotel California, the use of poetic devices to describe its themes of innocence and desire become
prevalent. The use of metaphors show how the incoming insanity has seeped into the hotel through the
song s theme of desire, whereas the imagery shows the speakers depth of innocence in the beginning
of the song. The poetic devices used throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metaphors used in the song show this. In line twenty seven, Her mind is Tiffany twisted, [...]. This
metaphor means that the woman is obsessed with desire for wealth; referring to her being twisted by
Tiffany and Co. which is a posh jewelry company. This metaphor s meaning is important because its
points back to theme of desire in which she is consumed by desire for wealth. In line fifty four, And
she said, We are all prisoners here, of our own device. This metaphor is straight forward as in the
women staying at the hotel are prisoners to their wealth and desire. This metaphor is also another
example of theme of desire. The song itself is also a metaphor. The Hotel California is not place, but it
represents the California lifestyle and Hollywood industry with its desire for riches and innocence
when first arriving there. The pun on line twenty eight again represents the theme of desire. On line
twenty eight, Mercedes bends. This clever pun could be seen as a misspelling, but it s not. This pun
means that the woman gets the bends (a type scuba diving sickness from surfacing too fast) from her
Mercedes Benz which means her world view is distorted by her greed for wealth. When the speaker

El Rio Canal Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment is to collect water samples from El Rio Canal. Data such as dissolved
oxygen (DO), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) will be
found. From the results of each group, Streeter Phelps Dissolved Oxygen sag curve will be
constructed. Then, the Streeter Phelps sag curve will be analyzed and the group will increase an
understanding of the limitations and assumptions using this curve. The amount of biodegradable
organic matter and non biodegradable matter found in the water samples will be compared. Ultimate
BOD will be estimated by using the first order method or the 〖BOD〗_t vs.〖BOD〗_(t+1) method.
El Rio Canal flows south from Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach to Glades Road in Boca Raton. This
canal offers fishable waters, and therefore the dissolved oxygen in this canal must be at least 4.0 mg/L.

Dissolved oxygen varies depending on the temperature in the water, salinity, oxygen depletion,

Life In The Iron Mills Analysis
It always begins with a promise. A promise for better living conditions, higher wage, more
opportunities, etc. This is when hope is established within an hard working individual. In the video,
New England cotton mills and the reading, Life in the Iron Mills , there are similarities in regards to
working conditions, solidarity among workers, and owner attitudes. Both mills show identifiable
occasions of mistreatment of workers, although there are clear differences in quality and benefits
offered by each institution. The purpose of this essay is to compare discuss issues of worker
mistreatment, solidarity, class, and fulfillment of everyday life in regards to work.
In Life in the Iron Mills , by Rebecca Harding Davis, worker treatment and employer attitude is quite
negative throughout the story. Deborah and Hugh do not have the benefits that were offered to
workers of other mills such as the workers mentioned in the New England mills video. They were
simply given a low wage and expected to survive in poor living conditions. The narrator would
describe the iron mill workers as Masses of men, with dull, besotted faces bent to the ground,
sharpened here and there by pain or cunning; skin and muscle and flesh begrimed with smoke and
ashes , which is completely different in comparison to the clean linens that were provided to the cotton
mill workers. Worker treatment was similar in the cotton mills as in the iron mills because the workers
often felt undervalued. A lack of

DamNation
DamNation was released March 10, 2014 as an advocacy documentary film. DamNation s main topic
is presenting and challenging the changing ideas and opinions of the large systems of dams in the
United States. The movie is in full support of the growing environmental strategy of Dam removal in
hopes to restore river ecosystems from coast to coast.
There are 75,000 dams in the US today, and have been part of American culture for many years. As
the demand for electricity grew the government looked into hydroelectric power that could be
produced from these dams. These dams were also used to back up water for towns to use as a water
source and to also redirect water for irrigation purposes. The US Army Corps of Engineers headed
many of these projects for the government and when World War II came about dams starting popping
up everywhere to power project to build planes, ships, bombs, and other material for war. But quickly
after the war many of the dams became obsolete and not even worth the cost it would take to re open
and run them. That is where the film comes into play advocating to remove and demolish these
obsolete masses of concrete and let the rivers flow.
The dams being built took away many amazing and flourishing fisheries and Indian grounds. Salmon
and other wild fish struggling to get back upstream to their spawning grounds as fish ladders in the
dams either were too hard to navigate or simply did not exist. For salmon it is lack of access end of

Metabolic Alkalosis
Define condition
Respiratory Acidosis is a condition that occurs when the lungs cannot remove all the carbon dioxide
the body produces. This causes body fluids, mainly the blood to become too acidic.
Respiratory Alkalosis is an acid imbalance due to a condition called hyperventilation which is where
you take in too much oxygen and it decreases the carbon dioxide being produced in your body.
Metabolic Acidosis is a condition that occurs when the body produces excessive quantities of acid or
when the kidneys are not removing enough acid from the body.
Metabolic alkalosis is a metabolic condition in which the pH of tissue is elevated beyond the normal

Core Concepts from TA and Gestalt
The paradox is that, while a concern with past and future is obviously central to psychological
functioning, to behave as though one were indeed in the past or future, as many do, pollutes the lively
possibilities of existence. ― Erving Polster, Gestalt Therapy Integrated: Contours of Theory Practice.
Accomodation to parental needs often (but not always) leads to an as if personality. This person
develops in such a way that he reveals only what is expected of him and fuses so completely with
what he reveals that one could scarcely guess how much more there is to him behind the false self .
Miller, A (1997) The Drama of Being a Child, Virago, London.
Inrojections and Polarities are similar to Life Scripts and Injuctions in TA theory. Introjects are often
codes swallowed whole that may have come from our family or society. For example, after twenty
three personal therapy sessions, I had to challenge myself to explore in body work what parts of
myself I would like to be deleted. I wanted to delete my emotional fragility. I started breathing,
voicing and gestering happy sounds and words. I then drew an image of a dark cloud with white words
Let Go . The relief of my image contained all my pain of my emotional fragitlity. Energy taken up in
reserving fighting mechanisms against the pain of blocked care. When we are in full contact change is
inevitable. (Ervin Polster, Gestalt, Therapy Integrated)
Polarities are if something exists then the opposite must also

Descriptive Essay On A Waiting Room
Nothing good ever happens in a waiting room. I pull up to the hospital with a subtle feeling of dread
tugging in my heart, and the building looms above me like a grim castle atop a hill. I step to the doors
and I am suddenly met with the familiar sterility that pervades every hospital. My footsteps seem to
echo around these empty halls, and every sound is amplified, including the beat of my own unsteady
heart. Truthfully, I already know where to go as I have done this many times, although I am not proud
or happy to admit that. I walk through the winding hallways of the hospital as they lead me deeper
into its heart. At last, I arrive at the cold, metallic doors that lead to the waiting room, and I place my
hand on the metal as I prepare myself to walk in. After gathering my courage, I push the door open
and I am hit with a scent that seems to escape my grasp even as I smell it. I step into a room that
attempts to be homely , but it just results in a feeling that is the exact opposite; almost as if it is trying
too hard to earn my trust. There is a small TV screen that plays the same silent weather forecasts over
and over. The fake wooden paneling on the wall gives the room the impression of a plastic cabin and
the blue speckled carpet seems to hold shards of colored glass. Still on my guard, I look around the
room some more, and there isn t as many people in the room as I thought there would be. While

Garland, Kolodny s Five Stage Model Of Group Development
The clarity and effectiveness of purpose and the use of time was very well used in this meeting. The
purpose of this meeting was very clear to both this writer and seemed to be to all group members.
Group members respected that the purpose was to have meetings that were effective enough to help
themselves stay sober. The group leader was very strict on keeping the group on task and did not allow
much time for the group members to get off topic. The group discussions truly allowed group
members to understand the purpose in being in attendance at each meeting. The time allotted for the
meeting was perfect. The hour long session left just enough time for each portion of the meeting to be
completed, but did not leave extra time where the group leader struggled to come up with discussion
or activities for the group members to participate in. The use of time was very effective and clear to
both the group leaders and group members.
X. Assessment of the stage of the group s development. (Use Garland, Jones, Kolodny s Five Stage
Model of Group Development). Cite examples to support your assessment.
The group was at the level identified as differentiation by the Garland, Jones, and
Kolondy model. Differentiation is defined as the following by Zastrow (2015): During the fourth
stage, differentiation, members are freer to experiment with new and alternative behavior patterns
because they recognize individual rights and needs, and they communicate more effectively.

One Of Ours Book Cover Analysis
This book cover is appealing to me because it shows a peaceful farm with clouds hovering above it.
The cover depicts the first part of the novel when Claude is one his farm in Nebraska. It shows his
farm and his fortunate house in the view, and has peaceful shades of color making it an attractive book
cover. I chose this image because One of Ours by Willa Cather has several different book covers. This
is one of the most appealing to me because they not only provide a pretty picture but provide an
illustration of events that occurred in the novel. This book cover, in particular, illustrates the days that
Claude had on the farm in the first two parts of the novel. It is also the farm that Claude grew up in so
it would only be logical for it to provide a feeling of tranquility and calmness when looking at a
hometown. It may even remind someone of their own hometown, and all of the joys and memories
made as a child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has the Nebraskan tone to it because there is nothing but crops for miles. This could represent the
blandness or emptiness that Claude felt while he was still in Nebraska with his family. In the cover all
that is shown is Claude working on the crops by cutting them down. This hard task is dull and could
represent the blandness and lack of interesting things in his time in Nebraska. Nebraska is usually
associated with the Great Plains and its rural locations that farmers live on. It appears, because of the
use of colors, that it is similar to other mid western works of art. I like this art because it can directly
relate to Claude if were to have survived the war. The piece of art reminds me of The Grapes of Wrath
cover because of the colors and the rural feeling it has. Obviously, the scene shown would have taken
place early on in the novel because he is still manually working on the farm by himself. (Homer n.p).

The Age of Enlightenment Essay
The Enlightenment was a period in the eighteenth century where change in philosophy and cultural
life took place in Europe. The movement started in France, and spread to Great Britain, Italy, Spain,
Portugal, and Germany at more or less around the same time, the ideas starting with the most
renowned thinkers and philosophers of the time and eventually being shared with the common people.
The Enlightenment was a way of thinking that focused on the betterment of humanity by using logic
and reason rather than irrationality and superstition. It was a way of thinking that showed skepticism
in the face of religion, challenged the inequality between the kings and their people, and tried to
establish a sound system of ethics. The ideas behind the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stokstad posits that these ideas have roots in the previous scientific revolution of the century before it,
with philosophers such as Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes establishing what we now know as the
scientific method based on logical reasoning, educated guesses and controlled experiments to prove
them. The astronomer Galileo Galilei confirmed a previous theory by Nicolaus Copernicus that the
sun did not revolve around the Earth and that it was the other way around the planets revolved around
the sun. These theories and practices went against the Church s teachings, and Galileo in particular
was forced to take back what he said on his observations. Other scientists made discoveries on smaller
scales relating to the animal kingdom and plant life, and artists were used to convey the new found
information by painting or drawing those findings. (p. 756) With the different revolutions and events
that took place before the eighteenth century, it could be said that the Enlightenment was just a logical
progression and the next step. Like the scientific revolution before it, the new Enlightenment era s
ideas were spread both through art and through writing, in texts such as Denis Diderot s Encyclopedia
which was printed and sold to the French middle class. The Encyclopedia held the most current ideas
concerning the arts, sciences, and the merits of human freedom. The advances as a result of the

Government Censorship
Should governments be allowed to censor information?
Censorship has always been a controversial topic. People will always want to know the truth. The
more democratic a nation is the more information is available. In these cases governments will usually
try to moderate what information is being circulated. By definition censorship is legally defined in
Australia as the official inspection of books, journals, theatre, film, music and popular media of many
forms before release (prepublication) to ensure that they do not offend against legal proscriptions
instituted by governments (Moore, 2013). In this essay censorship will take a broader term in which it
will also encompass instances of when governments try to provide incentives of getting rid of
information, omitting or restricting access to it through other means. Many people experience
censorship whether they know it or not and it is always debated if governments should be able to
censor information. There are a lot of cases where censorship should be allowed and cases where it
should not be. This essay will highlight instances and circumstances of when a government should be
able to censor information.
Censorship should be allowed in cases that involve instances where it is to protect the public or the
nation. Information that harms the security of a country should be protected and not made available to
the public. Under this circumstance though the government should be ethical about the information
they censor and the

Oedipus The King Speech Analysis
Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to have been invited to talk to you all tonight about OSU s
upcoming production of Oedipus Rex in my capacity as someone expert in
Greek history. Many of you will already be familiar with the outlines of the tragic story and I will not
rehash those plot details tonight. What I would like to highlight are some of the ways that knowing the
background of ancient Greek history helps us understand the play better. For instance, we could start
with the title, usually rendered Oedipus Rex Oedipus the King, Rex of course being the Latin for king.
Yet more accurately the title was Oedipus Tyrannus Oedipus the Tyrant. Was Oedipus a good and wise
king, or an evil tyrant whose hold on power was seen as illicit? Tonight I will argue that Oedipus was
indeed a good and wise king, however, his power grasp was illicit due to him not being a proper king,
and just a crowd backed ruler. Another important issue concerns the staging of the play. We are used to
serious plays in which a few actors push the drama along through their speeches and actions. Song and
dance with a chorus are something we might expect from a musical, a lighthearted comedy. We might
be tempted to see the singing as a vestige of a past time, without major function. It is also possible to
argue the opposite, that the music and vocal elements, even more than the speech, provided the main
emotional drive for this play. My hypothesis is that staging and songs during a tragedy was

the zoo was very sunny with a mild gust of wind every so often, which is a perfect weather condition
to conduct a study. The main reason for conducting this observation study was to study and gather
information about the many different types of primate that are located at the zoo. To see how different
or similar each primate is to one anotherin different aspects. The first primate that was observed at the

is very common according to Lang C. (2005), Adult males and independent adolescents of both sexes
range alone while adult females range with their dependent and weaned offspring (Primate Factsheet

are they physically built between in each others. For the orangutan, if they are standing they are about
5 feet tall, however including arm and leg span due to how they are built to climb and swing to places
their body size will be seven feet tall. Another difference was that they had no tail due to they
ancestors evolution to who they are now, which remove the chance of having the ability to have a

`` No One Can Serve Two Masters ``
We live in a world where a person s success is measured by how much money they have or by the
amount of possessions they own. God, however, calls us to live a different lifestyle. Matthew 6:24
says No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Nevertheless, God
also wants us to be frugal with our money so that we can bless others with our excess. On My Own
Two Feet gives some practical advice on how to get out of debt. The goal of this book is to help
people understand how they can live well today and also being able to save for future needs. Some of
the main idea of the book is to start saving now to have an emergency fund, to be able to pay for high
priced items and to ensure a stable retirement. It is not until after the personal finances are controlled
can people really give generously and serve God with their money. Deciding how much to spend and
how much to save can be difficult. On My Own Two Feet breaks down a gross income and shows
what percentage of the income should be spent in several different categories. The first, and the
biggest, category is what they call the foundation expenses (pg. 68). This includes all the stuff that is a
basic need, such as food, shelter and transportation. Because these are all necessitates in life, 45
percent of an income is devoted to paying for them. The next biggest category is income taxes.

The Key Studies Within Social Psychology
This essay aims to explore and describe some of the key studies within Social Psychology and show
why social psychology is still important within the science of psychology today. Social psychology
was once described by Allport (as cited in Lindzey Aronson, 1985, p.5) as, the scientific study of how
people s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence
of others . One of the first psychologists to study social psychology was Kurt Lewin. Lewin is
considered the father of social psychology by many as he took a stand against the dominant
behaviourist approach during the 1920 s through his belief that interaction between the individual and
their environment is key to affecting behaviour, rather than environment alone. His revolutionary ideas
matured into the study of group dynamics, which is widely used by many organisations today (Collin,
2012).
Within social psychology there are areas of behaviour which psychologists have been particularly
interested in. These areas include conformity, obedience and social facilitation to name a few. Two key
studies within the areas of obedience and conformity were carried out by Milgram and Asch
(Billingham, Ladbrook, Standring Teahan, 2008).
Milgram investigated how far people would be prepared to go when obeying an authority figure. Forty
men aged from 20 to 50 volunteered to take part. When the participant arrived they were greeted by

father. Throughout the whole experience of the labor camp, love is what keeps Lina moving and stops
her from giving up. The novel, Between Shades of Gray, written by Ruta Sepetys, demonstrates love
overcomes fear and suffering.
First of all, in the beginning of the novel, Lina finds love in her relationships which helps her defeat
all pain. As she suffers traumatic events, Lina finds hope through her friends and family, allowing her
to survive horrendous labor camps. Additionally, expressing their strong connection, Lina also learns
to cling onto her friends and family mentally when they physically aren t there. When Lina gets
seperated from her boyfriend, Andrius, he gives Lina a stone to remember him by. While feeling alone
one night, Lina says, I will see you...I will. I reached into my pocket and squeezed the stone (336).
This stone symbolizes their love and hope to just see each other again. Without this stone to hold onto,
Lina would probably give up. Then, soon after Lina found out her father died in prison, which built

Resource Based Sources of Competitive Advantage
| Critically discuss the importance of resource based sources of competitive advantage in one of the
industries studied on this module. You should discuss a range of companies. Competitive advantage is
when a firm sustains profits that exceed the average for its industry. The goal of much of business
strategy is to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Porter identified two basic types of
competitive advantage; cost and differentiation. These two advantages are known as positional
advantages as they describe the firm s position in the industry as a leader in either cost or
differentiation. However, in this assignment I will discuss and analyse the importance of the resource
based view, (which is also known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This core competence is of vital importance as the inability to innovate in today s ever changing
environment may lead to entropy and ultimately cessation of trade. Being truly competitive. It is
crucial that a resource ultimately delivers a true competitive advantage. This core competence
highlights the fact that it is not enough for an organisation just to realise the resource as being a
strength, but that it must also be able to prove that it is of both better quality and at a lower cost than
the competition. This in basic terms means that it is not good enough for instance to produce a low
cost, high quality product, but that it must have not only lower costs than the competitors, it must also
produce items of a higher quality or standard that that of its competitors. An example of this is to
consider that if Rolls Royce s Far East division does not produce higher quality at a lower cost than
both General Electric and Pratt amp; Whitney, it could not gain competitive advantage as this core
competence would not be relevant in this situation. Substitutability. A resource is more likely to be
able to gain competitive advantage if it cannot be substituted. Although the resource based view is in
opposition to Porter s views on strategy, his five forces model identified the threat of substitutes as an
environmental force that can influence an organisation in gaining

sterilization Essay
The only way to ensure that sterilization has occurred is to use the biological monitoring methods.
This is because these are the only tests done which show whether or not actual microbial life has been
killed. Biological methods are the only ones which are recommended by the CDC (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention), the AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical
Instrumentation), the AMA (American Medical Association), OSHA, and OSAP (Office Safety and
Asepsis Procedures Foundation)
Biological monitoring is basically evaluating a sterilization process by rendering highly resistant
bacterial spores biologically inert. The highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After exposure they are incubated along with an unexposed or control group of spores for the same
period of time. If sterilization has occurred the spores which were exposed will not multiply. The
control group should grow microorganisms and display a change in color. If this does not occur, then it
s spores have been inactivated and the test is invalid. This is because if the control spores were
inactivated, it is possible the spores which were exposed also became inactivated prior to sterilization.
Every item sterilized in the load with the indicator involved in an invalid test is considered unsterile.
This is the case whenever there is an uncertainty about either the indicator of the control.
Biological testing should be done often. The CDC recommends one spore strip test per sterilizer per
week. The biological indicator should be placed in the center of the largest and most difficult to
sterilize pack. The pack should then be placed horizontally in the lower front portion of the of the
sterilizer chamber to make the sterilization process as difficult as possible. Testing should be done
repeatedly every time a sterilizer is calibrated, repaired, or relocated to make sure the machine is
working correctly. It should also be performed whenever a new type of packaging material or tray is
used, after training new sterilization personnel, and after any change in sterilizer loading procedures.

  • 2. Selecting a Political Party Essay There is one right given to americans that seems to stand for all of the rights and that is voting. The right of voting is the right given to all Americans who are at least eighteen years old. Voting is the foundation in which Americans can gain more rights. For most being American and voting is a big deal. Most will say it s our constitutional right. Voting is knowing that the person or people that one decides to choose represents him or her. The people who are voted into a office will ultimately be making governmental decisions for Americans. These decisions represent and reflect the American people whether they like them or not. Then I began to notice people like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were the faces of a democrat. Honestly, I took a liking to them; they didn t look like ones typical politician. They were both minorities in their positions in government; Hillary a female who ran for president, Barack Obama I man whose skin wasn t of the majority and is now president. Democrats seemed to be making history and that caught my eye. The democrats seemed to be all full of new ideas and movements it became apparent that they might be for me. But even so I needed to know what was great about the other political party. Republicans or people who believes in or supports the republic form of government, was the next political party that I looked at. Subsequently, I had to take a look at the word republic, to understand what it meant. According to Merriam Webster.com, it means a country that is governed by elected representatives and by an elected leader (such as a president) rather than by a king or queen. After reading that definition I began to think to myself what republicans stand for also has to do with the American idea. Republicans had history with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Low Voter Turnout In Canada Historically Canadians have been participating less in elections for many years. The highest turnout rate was 79.4% in 1958. The 2011 elections was the first in many years in which Canadians were concerned enough to go vote, 61.4% participated which shows an increase from the 2008 elections in which only 59.1% participated. The decline in voter turnout is mostly awarded to the younger generations. They represent the category of people that participate the least in elections. During the 2011 elections, 38.8% of people aged 18 to 24 voted, which is an augmentation from the 37.8% in the 2008 elections (Barnes, Andre, and Erin Virgint, 2010). After a study done by elections Canada, it was showed that the new generations of voters are less likely to exercise that right today, than they would have some years ago Only a third of first time voters today are actually voting, half the rate of a generation ago. While it is a natural tendency to want everything done, don t go overboard. Remember that you are in your third trimester and need to take it easy. Changes happening to your body in week 36 Thanks to the nesting instincts in you, all the exhaustion of the third trimester gets replaced completely by a renewed sense of vigor. Here are the major physical changes happening to you in week 36: Getting into a comfortable sleeping position becomes harder by the day. Before the crisis of invasive species destroying the environment, it was normal for people to dump invasive species into lakes, streams, and rivers, but in today s society, releasing and bringing invasive species into the environment has come to a near existent halt. When the Welland Canal was built in 1829, it created more connecting routes between the Great Lakes. In addition, it allowed larger boats to make their way upstream into the lakes when previously, only smaller, local boats were able to travel in the small rivers and streams. Allowing the larger boat meant that it would speed up the process of invasive species being brought into the great lakes. On top of that, this was greatly increased by the lack of cleaning of the canals which allowed many boats to get from one lake to the next without being hosed down allowing species to survive and flourish. One of these many species was well known aquatic weed called Curly Pondweed. It was brought into the Great Lakes in 1879 and quickly spread, growing until it was so overabundant that the sunlight was blocked from entering the water. The lack of sunlight caused many fish and other aquatic organisms to die due to the lack of oxygen. This lack of oxygen created a vacuum that destroyed the majority of the organisms in the lake only allowing the few that were able to survive with very little oxygen. The result seems to depend most on the clarity and achievability of immediate short term objectives, in order to build the confidence and credibility the new executive will then deploy on the strategic plane. • 21. Irish Immigration In The 19th Century Essay An American Immigrant Journey: A Look at Asian and Irish Immigration in the 19th Century Many different people have many different stories to tell when talking about how they ended up in America. Some people had the choice to migrate to America in hope of a better life, while others were forced against their will to do so. Being American in America seems much more than just being a United States citizen, it has to do more with how they fit in with those who call themselves American. Re word The Irish immigration in the 19th century was a necessary move for those who wanted to live. Ireland underwent a famine and many of the Irish were starving and dying due to lack of nutrients and disease that took over Ireland. Many Americans had problems with these new Irish immigrants simply because it seemed like they provided America with no benefit at all. Not only did the Irish come to America not being able to provide benefit for the country, but they were also very Catholic while in the 19th century, America was a Protestant country. These are two probably probable? reasons the Irish were discriminated against throughout the 19th century. Unfortunately for him, everything was not as it seems. The song is very light and cheerful in the beginning, hinting at themes of innocence. This metaphor means that the woman is obsessed with desire for wealth; referring to her being twisted by Tiffany and Co. which is a posh jewelry company. In line fifty four, And she said, We are all prisoners here, of our own device. This metaphor is straight forward as in the women staying at the hotel are prisoners to their wealth and desire. This metaphor is also another example of theme of desire. The song itself is also a metaphor. The Hotel California is not place, but it represents the California lifestyle and Hollywood industry with its desire for riches and innocence when first arriving there. The pun on line twenty eight again represents the theme of desire. On line twenty eight, Mercedes bends. This clever pun could be seen as a misspelling, but it s not. A promise for better living conditions, higher wage, more opportunities, etc. This is when hope is established within an hard working individual. In the video, New England cotton mills and the reading, Life in the Iron Mills , there are similarities in regards to working conditions, solidarity among workers, and owner attitudes. Both mills show identifiable occasions of mistreatment of workers, although there are clear differences in quality and benefits offered by each institution. The purpose of this essay is to compare discuss issues of worker mistreatment, solidarity, class, and fulfillment of everyday life in regards to work. In Life in the Iron Mills , by Rebecca Harding Davis, worker treatment and employer attitude is quite negative throughout the story. Deborah and Hugh do not have the benefits that were offered to workers of other mills such as the workers mentioned in the New England mills video. They were simply given a low wage and expected to survive in poor living conditions. The narrator would describe the iron mill workers as Masses of men, with dull, besotted faces bent to the ground, sharpened here and there by pain or cunning; skin and muscle and flesh begrimed with smoke and ashes , which is completely different in comparison to the clean linens that were provided to the cotton mill workers. DamNation s main topic is presenting and challenging the changing ideas and opinions of the large systems of dams in the United States. The movie is in full support of the growing environmental strategy of Dam removal in hopes to restore river ecosystems from coast to coast. There are 75,000 dams in the US today, and have been part of American culture for many years. As the demand for electricity grew the government looked into hydroelectric power that could be produced from these dams. These dams were also used to back up water for towns to use as a water source and to also redirect water for irrigation purposes. The US Army Corps of Engineers headed many of these projects for the government and when World War II came about dams starting popping up everywhere to power project to build planes, ships, bombs, and other material for war. But quickly after the war many of the dams became obsolete and not even worth the cost it would take to re open and run them. That is where the film comes into play advocating to remove and demolish these obsolete masses of concrete and let the rivers flow. The dams being built took away many amazing and flourishing fisheries and Indian grounds. • 36. Oedipus The King Speech Analysis Ladies and gentlemen, I am honored to have been invited to talk to you all tonight about OSU s upcoming production of Oedipus Rex in my capacity as someone expert in Greek history. Many of you will already be familiar with the outlines of the tragic story and I will not rehash those plot details tonight. What I would like to highlight are some of the ways that knowing the background of ancient Greek history helps us understand the play better. For instance, we could start with the title, usually rendered Oedipus Rex Oedipus the King, Rex of course being the Latin for king. Yet more accurately the title was Oedipus Tyrannus Oedipus the Tyrant. Was Oedipus a good and wise king, or an evil tyrant whose hold on power was seen as illicit? Tonight I will argue that Oedipus was indeed a good and wise king, however, his power grasp was illicit due to him not being a proper king, and just a crowd backed ruler. Another important issue concerns the staging of the play. We are used to serious plays in which a few actors push the drama along through their speeches and actions. Song and dance with a chorus are something we might expect from a musical, a lighthearted comedy. We might be tempted to see the singing as a vestige of a past time, without major function. It is also possible to argue the opposite, that the music and vocal elements, even more than the speech, provided the main emotional drive for this play. My hypothesis is that staging and songs during a tragedy was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. • 39. The Key Studies Within Social Psychology This essay aims to explore and describe some of the key studies within Social Psychology and show why social psychology is still important within the science of psychology today. Social psychology was once described by Allport (as cited in Lindzey Aronson, 1985, p.5) as, the scientific study of how people s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence of others . One of the first psychologists to study social psychology was Kurt Lewin. Lewin is considered the father of social psychology by many as he took a stand against the dominant behaviourist approach during the 1920 s through his belief that interaction between the individual and their environment is key to affecting behaviour, rather than environment alone. His revolutionary ideas matured into the study of group dynamics, which is widely used by many organisations today (Collin, 2012). Within social psychology there are areas of behaviour which psychologists have been particularly interested in. These areas include conformity, obedience and social facilitation to name a few. Two key studies within the areas of obedience and conformity were carried out by Milgram and Asch (Billingham, Ladbrook, Standring Teahan, 2008). It is crucial that a resource ultimately delivers a true competitive advantage. This core competence highlights the fact that it is not enough for an organisation just to realise the resource as being a strength, but that it must also be able to prove that it is of both better quality and at a lower cost than the competition. This in basic terms means that it is not good enough for instance to produce a low cost, high quality product, but that it must have not only lower costs than the competitors, it must also produce items of a higher quality or standard that that of its competitors. An example of this is to consider that if Rolls Royce s Far East division does not produce higher quality at a lower cost than both General Electric and Pratt amp; Whitney, it could not gain competitive advantage as this core competence would not be relevant in this situation. Biological methods are the only ones which are recommended by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), the AMA (American Medical Association), OSHA, and OSAP (Office Safety and Asepsis Procedures Foundation) Biological monitoring is basically evaluating a sterilization process by rendering highly resistant bacterial spores biologically inert. The highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After exposure they are incubated along with an unexposed or control group of spores for the same period of time. If sterilization has occurred the spores which were exposed will not multiply. The control group should grow microorganisms and display a change in color. If this does not occur, then it s spores have been inactivated and the test is invalid. This is because if the control spores were inactivated, it is possible the spores which were exposed also became inactivated prior to sterilization. Every item sterilized in the load with the indicator involved in an invalid test is considered unsterile. This is the case whenever there is an uncertainty about either the indicator of the control. Biological testing should be done often. The CDC recommends one spore strip test per sterilizer per week. The biological indicator should be placed in the center of the largest and most difficult to sterilize pack. The pack should then be placed horizontally in the lower front portion of the of the sterilizer chamber to make the sterilization process as difficult as possible. Testing should be done repeatedly every time a sterilizer is calibrated, repaired, or relocated to make sure the machine is working correctly. It should also be performed whenever a new type of packaging material or tray is used, after training new sterilization personnel, and after any change in sterilizer loading procedures. ...
