Willful Brain Activity
The article, Willful Modulation of Brain Activity in Disorders of Consciousness, from the New
England Journal of Medicine explains that there is a difference in being in vegetative state and being
somewhat partially aware while unconscious through a clinical assessment information such as can the
patient benefit from treatments and stimulation. If a patient is considered to be partially aware there
can be other options for the patient which could help guide family members in a direction of which
care is best for the patient. In probing into how I felt in trying the imagery tasks on my own, how the
questions were asked to the study participants and patient, and the importance of the brain function
will bring an understanding of brain function. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The motor imagery task and a spatial imagery task. In trying to imagine swinging an arm to hit the
ball back and forth to an imagined instructor was possible, but also stimulating. The exercise required
listening and also physical activity. In the second scenario I imagined walking through each room of
my house I found that I could not concentrate on the task for the reason of the thirty second periods of
mental imagery (not enough time for me to think). I could see that this task would help stimulate a
patient that is partially aware since it seems it would be able to exercise the brain. The communication
tasks that were used in the study seemed appropriate since the investigator used a MRI to track the
movement of the study participants or the patient s brain. Although I wonder if the questions had to be
yes or no questions in order for the brain to respond through the MRI. Could the investigator ask the
people in the study or the patient how many brothers do you have and receive a mental imagery
response. The exercise proved to be able to stimulate the minds of the study participants and the

Populist Party Thesis
The Populist Party After the Grant Administration Scandal and the intimidation of Political Machines
like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional Republican and
Democratic parties. The people were ready for change, and from this dissatisfaction, the Populist Party
was born. The Populist Party, also call the People s Party, sought to transform the federal government
in favor of public interest. The Populist Party helped to bring about change that Americans wanted,
and the efforts of this party are still noticeable in today s government. The Populists wanted the
government to be more actively involved in the economy. Prior to this plea for reform, the American
federal government played a small role in economy; their job was to stimulate economic growth, not
to regulate it. In their 1896 National Platform, the Populists called for higher income tax on the more
wealthy citizens. The graduated income tax endorsed by Populists was adopted after the dissipation of
the Party and is still used today. Currently, depending on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Populist Party recognized that privately owned railroads proved to be a real problem for farmers
who were trying to ship crops across the country at reasonable prices. The new party called for a
switch from private to public owned and regulated railroads. In the 1896 Platform, the Populists
argued that since the railroads were a means of exchange and public necessity , then the government
should operate the railroads in the best interest of the people. They claimed the Robber Barons, like
Andrew Carnegie, of the railroad corporations would cause the impairment if not destruction of the
political rights and personal liberties of the citizens. Monopolies are now illegal in the United States

Heinrich Himmler And His Life Essay
Heinrich Himmler was born on October 7th, 1900 in Munich to a middle class Bavarian family. His
father was Joseph Gebhard Himmler, a secondary school teacher and principal. His mother was Anna
Maria Himmler (maiden name Heyder), a devout Catholic and extremely attentive mother. Heinrich
had an older brother, Gebhard Ludwig Himmler, and a younger brother, Ernst Hermann Himmler.
Heinrich was named after his godparent, Prince Heinrich of Wittelsbach of the royal family of
Bavaria, who was tutored by Gebhard Himmler. Educated at secondary school in Landshut, Himmler
served as an officer cadet in the 11th Bavarian Regiment at the end of WW1, although he saw no
active service. After working briefly as a salesman for a fertilizer manufacturing firm, Heinrich
Himmler joined the Nazi party and in the November of 1923 participated in the Beer Hall Putsch as a
standard bearer at the side of Ernst Rohm. All of these roles combined together were a major reason
for Heinrich Himmler being chosen for the jobs he received later in his militaristic life. It is surprising,
that Heinrich Himmler, the chief of the SS and the primary architect of the Holocaust, has not
attracted the attentions of more biographers. For all that he had taken part in for the history of the
Third Reich, he appears to lack the infamous charisma of Heydrich or Hitler, and because of this lack
of infamous charisma he has been presented only rarely as a primary subject for a book about the
holocaust and the

Life Reflected In William Cullen Bryant s Poetry
William Cullen Bryant William Cullen Bryant was a man with many different abilities and he was
well rounded between political, religious, and writing matters. He had very strong opinions on matters
that greatly influenced the United States. William Cullen Bryant had many historical and political
contributions through his life as a writer and a free willed man.
William Cullen Bryant had a very successful early life. He was considered to be a puritan since a
young age. The religious training the young boy received at his hands left such a mark upon him that
Bryant the mature poet has sometimes been called a puritan (Unger 151). Bryant was pushed by his
father and his teachings to be a puritan and keep up puritan ways. Coming from Puritans, ... Show

These diverse issues included slavery, sectionalism, the national bank, currency stabilization, the
creation of Central Park, the need for prison reform, labor rights, copyright laws, and freedom of the
press ( Bryant, William Cullen 3). Bryant didn t want to be in politics but he used his writing to show
his opinion on all of his political related topics. Although he did not intend to be in politics, that was a
very strong area for him. Bryant joined the Democratic Party and made the Post an organ of free trade,
free speech, abolition, and workingmen s rights. He later was a founder of the Republican Party (
William Cullen Bryant 1). The topic of slavery was one of Bryant s biggest struggles. He had a very
strong opinion against slavery and was in some cases considered to be an abolitionist. Bryant devoted
his time to trying to stop the spread of slavery. Bryant s beliefs against slavery hurt the Evening Post
and was eventually hated in the south because of his edits against slavery. He put up the slogan above
the masthead of the editorials: Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Trade, and Free Speech, which was the
slogan for the Barnburner wing of the Democratic Party, which made people hate him even more (
Bryant, William Cullen 3). Bryant thought in a way that slavery would dissipate on it s own, but
however that was not the case. With many issues legally among the savery, he began to write

Overpopulation Is A Major Challenge That Humans Face Today
Overpopulation is a major challenge that humans face today. The human population is close to 8
billion, and at our current birthrate, we are adding nearly one billion more people every 12 years.
Issues such as dependence of natural resources, degradation of the environment, poverty, and
unemployment, are root causes of overpopulation. Though opponents of this theory, such as Erle C.
Ellis uses archeological records, and the history of human evolution to argue against overpopulation.
Robert Walker, on the other hand, disagrees. He uses scientific explanation to anticipate that all living
beings on earth will are under torment as they die off due to: erosion of natural resources, mainly food,
and water. Next, Joel Kotkin claims that an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many years later, they extracted nutrients from the species by cooking them, and used different woods
for enhanced hunting outcomes. Ellis points out that these innovations are still being used before since
the last ice age ended. So, if hunter gatherers were, therefore, successful worldwide at that time,
human innovation will adapt. Ellis further argues that, the planet s carrying capacity of hunter
gatherers was not any more than 100 million. Without their stone tools, he argues, the amount would
be a lot less. The creation of agriculture, eventually empowered a higher population growth, which
needed more land use. Although the population is much greater now, approximately 7.2 billion,
society has adapted with innovation. In contrast to a UN assessment, Ellis believes that a peak
population is sustainable if obligatory investments are finalizing in the substructure and conducive
trade, supplemented with anti scarceness and food security strategies. , For instance, Chinese
agriculture, shows that population growth will increase efficiency; this is because the relationship
between population and economic wealth displays an increase of productivity. As the population rises,
so does the productivity that matches the stock of food available, this is due to Anthropocene.
Anthropocene suggests that people essentially live in human dominated environments, which is being
changed for our livelihood. Society is transformed

Smallpox Is An Acute Contagious Disease
SMALLPOX Introduction Smallpox is an acute contagious disease that is caused by the variola virus
which is a member of the Genus Orthopoxvirus family. It infects humans only as a result of its ability
to escape the host immune system, and avoid any further activation (Koplow 2003). The virus is a two
stranded DNA virus. There exist two forms of the variola virus namely the variola major and variola
minor. Variola major is the one that is lethal, while variola minor is not lethal but a mere strain. The
most common strain is the variola major, which produces the more severe symptoms and with a higher
fatality rate of 20% to 40%, within a week of infection (Koplow 2003). Key features of the life
cycle(s) The initial step is whereby the virus attaches to the host cell and infects an individual. It
normally enters through the respiratory system. It attaches to the mouth, trachea or lung mucosa. The
cells forming the mucous membrane are loosely packed hence permitting penetration and movement
into the saliva. Once the virus reaches the cell membrane, it penetrates through endocytosis. In the
host cell, the main protein in released (Koplow 2003). The virus replicates in the cytoplasm of the host
cell. DNA replication and transcription may start immediately as the virus itself contains enzymes for
replication and transcription. It does not rely on the host cell enzymes to begin replication (Koplow
2003). First, the DNA and RNA polymerase are made, along with other transcription

A Desire Unspoken In Baby Driver By Edgar Wright
A Desire Unspoken Women should be seen, not heard. A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some point
in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a woman s
worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises the traits of
obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout history women s
lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who listens to her father,
being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting anything for
themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for her own
happiness, but to make others happy. A woman must be self sacrificing and put the wants and needs of
her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own happiness for others
is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again women are used as tragic
martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years popular film Baby Driver by
Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or personality of her own. She only
exists in relation to the main character and is there to make him happy and feel good. Even in current
films and media women are still being portrayed as one dimensional props whose only purpose is to
look pretty and be agreeable. That is why watching the movie Carol by Todd Haynes felt like a breath

Essay on Whistleblowing
Sharon Watkins earned her 15 minutes of fame the honest way, as the Enron employee who blew the
lid off of then CEO Ken Lay s debauchery. But for every celebrated whistleblower, there are hundreds
who remain in the shadows. And for good Samaritans who do tell their tale, the price they pay can be
exorbitant.
Whistleblowers perform in many careers and are found at all levels of an organization: scientists and
secretaries, lawyers and paralegals, managers and staff, security personnel and computer specialists,
etc. They are as varied in age, ethnic background, education, profession, sex, and income as the
population at large. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whistleblower him or herself must be carefully scrutinized. What are the personal and the
professional reputations of the whistleblower? What is the motive driving the whistleblower? Is it to
benefit the client or the organization, or is it a need for attention or revenge? Is the whistleblower s
cause seen as legitimate and significant by trustworthy colleagues and friends? Is the whistleblower
aware of the potential consequences of blowing the whistle and still willing to accept responsibility for
actions taken?
Unfortunately, during most of this century many people equated whistleblowers with tattle tales. For
instance, until the early 1980s, legal indices often listed the law of whistleblowing under the word
snitch or informant. During the Nixon era, much of that negative attitude changed. With the advent of
Watergate, the public began to recognize the service whistleblowers were providing to taxpayers at
great risk to themselves.
Further, whistleblowing impacts not just the whistleblower but also their family and friends. Although
whistleblowers have many different backgrounds, skills,

Scarlet Letter Hypocrisy
Puritanism was an early 17th century religion that branched off of Protestantism. The people who
followed this religion were expected to live an earnest life.Though it seemed that the Puritans knew
their religion very well and followed all the customs and practices, there was much hypocrisy. Author
Arthur Miller and Nathaniel Hawthorne depict this contradiction in their novels The Crucible and The
Scarlet Letter. In the Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne uses a resentful tone to describe the feeling of being a
hypocrite. Else, I should long ago have thrown off these garments of mock holiness, and have shown
myself to mankind as they will see me at the judgment seat. Happy are you, Hester, that wear the
scarlet letter openly upon your bosom! Mine burns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dimmsdale was thought to be a true priest, a true religionist, with the reverential sentiment largely
developed, and an order of mind that impelled itself powerfully along the track of a creed (84). Him
commiting adultery with Hester and staying on his pulpit makes him a hypocrite no questions asked.
In The Crucible, Abigail tries to make people believe she is an innocent child but she is actually one of
the biggest hypocrites in the story. I want to open myself!... I want the light of Jesus! I danced for the
Devil; I saw him I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus;I kiss His hand (45). In confessing her sin,
Abigail is showing how she was a hypocrite. She claimed to want the light of God yet she went and
danced with the devil. She doesn t kiss the hand of Jesus she kisses the hand of death. Miller uses a
ironic tone to depict the hypocrisy of Abigail. Abigail also can be considered a hypocrite for her love
scandal with John Proctor Mliller uses a somber and romantic tone to describe how much Abigail was
in love with Proctor.. I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion

Hester Prynne In The Scarlet Letter
Hester Prynne is a character who relies on her inner strength as she transforms from an impetuous,
shameful sinner to a stoic woman. She is a character in The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel
Hawthorne. Hester Prynne is a woman who was condemned by a Puritan town for being an adulterer.
This conclusion is evident because she became pregnant while her husband was lost at sea . Hester s
conviction is openly displayed by a scarlet letter on her chest. She is immediately isolated once
released, and she begins her transition into her new self. A key factor in the character development of
Hester Prynne is the shame she experienced. She sought love in someone other than her husband, who
was thought to be dead, and she was openly punished for her sins. After released she remained
encumbered in her punishment. She remained in town, and lived a plain life. Her guilt left her stuck in
a constant state of restriction. She used her immense skill of needlework for the poor, and an
occasional extravagance. However her personal shame was not transferred to her daughter, Pearl. The
difference in clothing shows that Hester considers herself shameful and not worthy of a decadent
lifestyle, but her daughter is deserving of a distinguished lifestyle.
Hester sought not to acquire anything beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After seeing where her decisions landed her, she began to change and become a more stoic woman.
She changed and became more responsible. She accepted her guilt and did not wallow in it. Hester

more change. She escaped the pain of her current location, and she moved on to another. She
eventually returned to the place where she was once condemned. These actions showed how truly
stoic she was. She knew she could handle whatever painful memories the journey brought back. After
returning, she was finally

Death of the Author
Death of the Author Analysis
Roland Barthes is a French literary philosopher born in 1915. In one of his theories Death of the
author he argues that by giving a text an author is to impose a limit on that text . He claims that having
knowledge of the author s background and purpose for the text restricts the readers imaginative license
to build their own interpretations, and that the author and text are completely unrelated. Barthes
declares, The death of the author is the birth of the reader.
Instead, he calls the author a scriptor , to draw away from the thinking that the author and his/her
single experience is in control over the text. In this way, he makes a point that no writing is original,
and is created based on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Barthes statement would be invalid for autobiographical writing, where the authors are one with the
text, as they are writing about themselves.
In poetry, the author is a significant part of the poem as most poetry is a reflection of the poets
experiences through the use of metaphors and other poetic devices. To ignore this is to diffuse a poem
of its deeper meaning and connections.
We can use Full Moon and Little Frieda by Ted Hughes to argue against Barthes theory. Hughes wrote
this poem about his daughter Frieda s fascination with nature. The poem frames a specific scene
somewhere in the country:
A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket
And you listening.
A spider s web, tense for the dew s touch. A pail lifted, still and brimming mirror To tempt a first star
to a tremor.
Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm wreaths of breath
A dark river of blood, many boulders, Balancing unspilled milk.
Moon! you cry suddenly, Moon! Moon!
The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work That points at him amazed.
The poem is fairly vague in terms of setting, and without knowledge of the author one would not
know that Ted Hughes, his wife and two children (one named Frieda) moved to a cottage in Devon. It
was there when he wrote Full Moon and Little Frieda after his wife Sylvia Plath committed

which is stated in ones will. The testamentary trust can contain all of the elements or just a portion of

Underage Drinking On Fridays
Young people have continued to consume alcohol especially on weekends. Consequently, young
people have continued to experience the aftermath of drinking too much alcohol at the tender age. As
a result, most of the countries categorize underage drinking as the leafing problem in public health.
Teenagers always find a way to avoid being noticed by their parents. Even though it is their choice,
most initially know what they are doing is wrong, but do it anyways. The social choice theory is vital
when examining why young people make the decision to drink beer on Fridays when their parents are
away. Choice theory is the belief that we are internally, not externally motivated (Coulson, 2013 p.119

Now we will focus on intermolecular forces. The Nature of Intermolecular Forces: The Intermolecular
Forces (forces between molecules) are weaker than Intramolecular Forces (The Chemical Bonds
within an Individual Molecule). This distinction is the reason we define the molecule in the first place.
The properties of matter result from the properties of the individual molecule (resulting from chemical
bonding) and how the molecules act collectively (resulting from intermolecular forces).
Intermolecular Forces are longest ranged (act strongly over a large distance) when they are
electrostatic. Interaction of Charge Monopoles (simple charges) is the longest ranged electrostatic
force. Charge Charge forces (found in ionic crystals) For like charges (+,+) or ( , ), this force is always
repulsive. For unlike charges (+, ), this force is always attractive. Charge Dipole Forces: An uncharged

are steel rods hided inside cardboard tubes in order to support the A frame. Paper tubes are constructed
with slightly change in each angle to form the geometry which is decided by plan and elevations of the

Favorite Movie Assignment
For this assignment, I have chosen to pick one of my favorite movies called Star Wars episode 3
Revenge of the Sith. Because I am a huge fan of the whole Star Wars series, but this specific movie, I
have seen several times and it is my favorite out of all the movies included in the franchise. Before I
took this class, I thought this movie was phenomenal, I loved the way it was put together, the whole
story was interesting, it stood out from different movies because of its creative and unique concept of
the science fiction, adventure, action, romance, and fantasy genres. When I first saw this movie, I was
truly intrigued and didn t lose interest in any part throughout the film, it fascinated me. After I had
took this theater class though, and after analyzing several different movies, I looked back at the movie,
I realized that all the terminology and content that I have learned throughout the course wasn t put to
mind because I didn t pay attention to it really because I didn t even know the names of the terms that
I learned in class and the insights of how this film was put together, I was more focused on what was
happening in the story. After I took this class, I have changed my response to this film because when I
analyze this movie, I now have a deeper understanding of what goes on in this movie, I know this
because I think of how different scenes in the movie add to the story/narrative, and how some
characters are affected and how it adds to the story, I know what kind

The Most Uneven Great Poet By Tenney Nathanson
Come, said my soul,
Such verses for my Body let us write, (for we are one,)
That should I after death invisibly return,
Or, long, long hence, in other spheres,

Ever and ever yet the verses owning as, first, I here and now,

Walt Whitman
Walt Whitman, termed America s most uneven great poet by Tenney Nathanson, is one of America s
greatest poets. Born in 1819 in Long Island, Whitman lived during an era when sexuality, especially
homosexuality, a term not coined until years later, was a taboo subject not to be discussed in public.

With the release of Leaves of Grass, a new form of poetry is born. This form defies convention in
presentation and subject matter. The compilation of poems did not get the immediate attention and
recognition Whitman had hoped for due this defiance. Although it was championed by several famous
poets, especially Ralph Waldo Emerson, it would take many years for the works to become successful.
The explicit sexual theme in Whitman s works is the chief source of the delayed recognition Leaves of
Grass eventually receives. Leaves of Grass was probably more notorious for its sexual explicitness
than admired for its poetic qualities (Nathanson 400). Whitman initially incorporated the sexual theme
into two articles for the Brooklyn paper. Whitman was forced to resign because of the indignation of
some of his readers (Asselineau 107). This fueled his desire to teach the general population that sex is
universal and should be embraced without fear and anxiety. The body, he teaches, is beautiful. Sex is
also beautiful (Whitman 208).
Whitman does a better job of incorporating the recurring theme of sexuality into his poems. Not only
does he bestow sexual attributes on people, he does the same for objects as evidence in the poem,
Crossing Brooklyn Ferry . He combines with the river, the street and other objects. The glories strung
like beads on my smallest sights and hearings, on the walk in the street and the passage

Mcdonald s, Burger King, And Taco Bell
Have you ever wondered what makes a Big Mac so delicious in such a short amount of time?
McDonald s can make your meal in the time it takes you to swerve around the corner of the drive thru.
This is why millions of Americans have stopped taking the time to make a home cooked meal when
there is a fast food chain up the block that has dinner in five minutes for half the cost. With Americans
so invested in technology, work, and school, many turn to these unhealthy choices to save time. This
fast food epidemic has led to child obesity, adult obesity, and much more cases of diabetes. Now,
children and even adults don t know the normal food portions to eat or the correct diet to follow. This

When it comes to juicer market, not all can be compared or compete with master brands like Breville
and Cuisinart. They have established and proved what their products are capable of. The amount of
spend on a juicer, must have a direct correlation with the benefit derived out of it. Factors like large
usage period, better quality and quantity of juice and ease of maintenance need to be considered
before purchasing a high quality juicer. For those who require all the above mentioned criteria, Hurom

The Hurom slow juicer performs functions similar to other juicers available in market. However, the
real benefits are actually hidden. Most of conventional juicers have a very high RPM (rotations per ...

By taking a look at the user reviews, it is obvious that Hurom has found a place in hear of customers.
One positive review stated by a customer shows how easy it is to clean this device. While other
branded juicers require some skill and effort to dis assemble and clean, Hurom can be assembled and
disassembled effortlessly. No diagrams or manuals are required to do this. Another positive review
proved the blade effectiveness. To break Almonds without soaking it overnight is tedious. But Hurom
does this effectively for morning milk with its effective blades. The fineness of crushed almond
portrays the outstanding quality of Horum slow juicers. Above all, the lowest noise levels are a strong
point. Compared to other available juicers, Horum HU 100 makes very less noise while juicing. Even
with wheat grass, Horum does an efficient job which customers cannot expect on juicers from top
most or reputed brands.
Some of the common complaints on Horum are blade jamming. This is a situational defect. If the
customer tries to push the consumables too hard before it is crushed, then the blade would be jammed.
If the eatables are very hard, then users might need to cut it down to smaller pieces to make the blade
to rotate freely. However, this is not a fault with Horum juicer. Occasional breaks can happen, which
can be tackled by filing warranty claims. Breaks are very rare and do not tend to happen frequently.
This case is the same even for

Fluoride had meanwhile gained application in toothpastes. Colgate took the lead, introducing stannous
fluoride in 1955. Three years later, the company launched a memorable advertising campaign with
commercials in which a little girl showed her mother a report card from the dentist and announced
Look, Ma! No cavities! Within a few years, virtually all brands of toothpaste used fluoride; however,
the use of fluoride in drinking water remained controversial.
As late as 1993, in fact, the issue of fluoridation remained heated enough to spawn a study by the U.S.
National Research Council. The council found some improvement in dental health, but not as large as
had been claimed by early proponents of fluoridation. Furthermore, this improvement could be
explained by reference to a number of other factors, including fluoride in toothpastes and a generally
heightened awareness of dental health among the U.S. populace.
Chlorofluorocarbons :
Another controversial application of fluorine is its use, along with chlorine and carbon, in
chlorofluorocarbons. As noted above, CFCs have been used in refrigerants and propellants; another
application is as a blowing agent for polyurethane foam. This continued for several decades, but in the
1980s, environmentalists became concerned over depletion of the ozone layer high in Earth s

Mozart s Effect On The Theory Of The Mozart Effect
1. What is the problems being studied
The problem being studied is whether listening to Mozart causes an increase in IQ scores. Several
researchers have made this claim, yet others have not been able to replicate the experiment.
2. What is the authors hypothesis
Steel, Ball Runk (1997) sought to test the theory of the Mozart effect based on the study completed by
Rauscher, Shaw Ky (1993). The authors hypothesis predicted that if the Mozart effect enhances spatial
reasoning tasks, then listening to Mozart s music should enhance the participant s ability to complete
the backwards digit span task.
3. How was the hypothesis developed
The authors reviewed several previously published studies on the subject of the Mozart Effect.
4. How does this study relate to the problem
Rauscher et al specified that an appropriate task would involve not just spatial recognition but should
incorporate spatial and temporal transformation, which was the basis for the dependent measure of
backwards digit span task. If listening to Mozart was proven to improve performance, then the
participant s performance on the backwards digit span task should improve after listening to Mozart.
5. What type of research design did Steele et al. use
This research followed the empirical research method of a true experiment since it contained the
following critical features: the independent variable is a manipulated variable under the researcher s
control; the researcher uses random assignment to

Question of the Week: Why did you choose this book? Explain.
I decided to choose A Thousand Acres because the book seemed interesting and could have potential
with it being a modern version of Shakespeare s King Lear, but with the setting and plot around an
Iowa farm. And even though the idea might seem strange on paper, it really depends on the execution
(like Chains proved last month).

What I mean is that the idea is about someone is having an amazing life, but serious or bad things
happen to that person which could lead to emotional problems or, in King Lear s case, insanity. Now,
since I am halfway through A Thousand Acres, I can say there are some hints of King Lear. For
example, one of our characters, named Ginny, is showing signs of a mental disorder, something along
the lines of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), and in the beginning, she seems happy and cheery,
meaning that something had to happen for her to get emotional scars. But if we are looking for a
genre, I would say either realistic fiction or domestic realism (which is the genre about 19th century
novels popular with women, which the book kind of is), due to the fact that things like PTSD or abuse
can happen, and it isn t just in the Lifetime movie of the week or in a nightmare, things like this
happen in real life. And the only people you wouldn t acknowledge that fact are people under the age
of 13 and rich people who have been pampered so much that they are unaware of the live of people

Developing A Hobby Essay
A hobby is an activity one develops to pursue an interest, outside of one s regular occupation and
engages in them primarily for pleasure. Hobbies range from fly fishing to leather working to star
gazing, it can be anything you want it to be and anything you want to do. Having a hobby helps to
make you a more interesting person and it can give you the opportunity to meet new people with
similar interests. A chain of events may lead you to a new hobby which you had never considered or
thought of before. For instance, take the avid reader of fantasy novels, which in itself is a hobby. From
reading these novels, the reader becomes enthralled with swordplay, armor, castles, dungeons and

SCA. Wandering further, he finds himself at the edge of the tournament field, where he finds a few
people suited in armor and practicing against one another for the upcoming battle. As a result of his
visit to the SCA event, he has seen and discovered several hobbies he can pursue. Attending events in

skills on the battlefield wearing armor and fighting or designing and making of armor and weapons.
He may already have another hobby, such as leather working that he can adapt and apply to this new
venture. In contrast though, over indulgence in a hobby can lead to adverse consequences. Everyone
should have an outlet and a special interest that they enjoy doing for themselves. Self indulgence, to a
point, is quite healthy. (Summers, 2010) On the other hand, if the hobby is very expensive, you could
wind up in debt or unable to pay your bills from aggressively pursuing this hobby. At this point, you

Pros And Cons Of Merit Pay
Merit Pay The controversy of the merit pay system has been a highly contentious discussion in the
field of education, most notably in my school district. As stated in the Education Commission of the
United States, merit pay is pay for performance where a teacher s compensation is tied to the
performance in the classroom (2010). While merit pay for classroom teachers has been around for
decades, it is increasingly becoming an issue around the country. As seen in my district, the issue has
become a non negotiable topic as the district is negotiating a new contract with the teacher s union.
The district s proposal to include it in the new contract in order to improve student outcomes, attract
new, highly qualified teachers to the district, and retain the proficient teachers already employed in the
schools. The political influence increased when President Barack Obama introduced the Race to the
Top Initiative. As stated in Howell Magazinnik, the Race to the Top Initiative was created to stimulate
the adoption of education reforms in the state governments of education (2017). The debate has been
ongoing surrounding the pros and cons of merit pay with both supporters and opposition. The merit
pay system will continue to have legal implications for school leaders as it impacts the rights of
teachers, but the impact on student achievement. I support merit pay as it is prescribed to tie teacher
performance to pay increases.

Mexican People And Misrepresented In The Mexican People
Many times, Mexican people are misrepresented in the media whether it s a person writing a racist
remark on social media, the president speaking ill of Mexican people, or just people blaming Mexican
s for stealing jobs from them that they didn t want to do in the first place. Even the Mexican people
born in the United States are criticized just as much as immigrants are because of their race, name, or
just because they may look like the typical Mexican to other people but how can someone try to
marginalize other documented citizens for such simple characteristics? It s sad and upsetting to see
how a single person can corrupt most individuals to believe such remarks made towards my Mexican
community to get votes for a presidential election. Trump as we all know it has made many remarks
towards Mexicans while running for office and this sparked a racial conflict between Mexicans vs the
people who support his mindless verbal attacks, when Trump was running for office he made this
remark that stood out to me a lot, When Mexico sends its people, they re not sending their best... They
re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re
bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people .

Essay about Historical Analysis of the Military Draft Policy
Historical Analysis of the Military Draft Policy
The Constitution adopted in 1789 gave Congress the power to raise and support armies, but it neither
mentioned nor prohibited conscription. The Framers left that issue to the future, although most of
them believed that the United States like Britain would enlist its men rather than conscript them, and
would pay for its armies through the power to tax. Not until World War I did the United States rely
primarily upon conscription. The Selective Service Act of 1917 was adopted in large part because a
civilian led preparedness movement had persuaded many Americans that a selective national draft was
the most equitable and efficient way for an industrial society to raise a wartime army. ... Show more

The drawing continued until all days of the year had been matched to lottery numbers. (Berger 1981)
In 1973, the draft ended and the U.S. converted to an All Volunteer military. The registration
requirement was suspended in April 1975. It was resumed again in 1980 by President Carter in
response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Registration continues today as a hedge against
underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a future crisis. (Berger 1981)
Draft Procedure and Policy
When a crisis occurs which requires more troops than the volunteer military can supply, Congress
passes and the President signs legislation which starts a draft. It should be noted that the President
cannot initiate a draft on his own. Congress would first have to pass legislation (both the House and
Senate), and the President would have to sign the bill into law. A lottery based on birthdays determines
the order in which registered men are called up by Selective Service. The first to be called, in a
sequence determined by the lottery, will be men whose 20th birthday falls during that year, followed,
if needed, by those aged 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. The Agency activates and orders its State Directors and
Reserve Forces Officers to report for duty. Registrants with low lottery numbers are ordered to report
for a physical, mental, and moral evaluation at a Military Entrance Processing Station to determine
whether they are

A Red Scare is known as the promotion of fear of a potential rise of communism (a political theory

Disney World Parks May Sound Like An American Dream
Walking among thousands of smiling children and nostalgic parents through the Main Streets of the
U.S.A. at Disney World parks may sound like an American Dream, but upon closer examination, the
economics of Disney World may leave someone s stomach more unsettled than the park goers who
have eaten four Mickey bars and a jumbo turkey leg. Disney can be easily compared to the roots of a
tree, as its company is continuously growing into every area it can absorb from in this case, absorbing
money. Disney has an industry in the entertainment business, the tourism business, the amusement
park industry, and so much more. A company with accessibility in as many markets as Disney
possesses is on its way to gaining a large amount of market power. This could be a red flag as it is not
unlikely that market power can go hand in hand with monopolization, so should we be scared of the
progression of Disney as a company? When the movie Frozen was released in November of 2013,
Elsa and her sister, Anna, became the world s most successful product endorsers. Not only did Disney
make over 1 billion dollars in lifetime grosses worldwide for the movie release alone, but they utilized
their versatile market to milk this cow as much as they could. Ranging from Frozen wedding dresses

retail revenue from the release date of the film to November of 2014 (Konnikova). In one year, Disney

Crack Cocaine And Drug Addiction
The drug crack cocaine is the crystalized form of cocaine that normally comes in a powder form.
Smoking crack cocaine, which is way stronger than crack itself, permits the drug to reach the brain
faster which brings a strong and almost instantaneous high that endures for approximately fifteen
minutes. Because crack cocaine addiction can develop quicker if the substance is smoked rather than
inhaled, the user can develop an addiction after their first time even experiencing the drug. Crack
cocaine has a high cost, while crack alone is traded at low cost. Once a crack cocaine user is addicted,
the amount that they tend to use increases and the price also increases causes a direct struggle for
funds in order to pay. The definitions of crack cocaine addictions can vary, but most incorporate the
fact that as a staple norm the persistent use of a drug notwithstanding the presence of undesirable and
damaging consequences and concerns for the user s well being, employment, financial stability, and
relationships/associations. The significant component of crack cocaine is the users craving and loss of
control, indicating the failure of the user to change their uncontrollable behavior. From doing research
on this topic, I found that cocaine addiction was once assumed to be mainly mental in nature. In the
book that we read in class, Fast Lives by Claire Sterk, she challenges the common misperceptions of
crack cocaine and shows us through study that the common perceptions that we have

Andrew Jackson Indian Removal Act Summary
Andrew Jackson s Presidency and the Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States, he won the presidential race for his
support of farmers and workingmen. His role as president led him to pass nine treaties and Indian
Removal Act, although everything he passed was not what was promised. There are now questions
about what the removal was, how Jackson got it passed, and is it what the Indians expected it to be?
President Jackson got the Indian Removal Act passed on May 28, 1830, when it was passed it said that
the move west would be voluntary and peaceful, although Jackson and his administration had other
plans for the Indians and their land.
This policy first came up during the process of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, although it did not
pass until the exchange of land with the government and Indians. The Indian Removal Act was passed
by Congress on May 28, 1830. This was passed by President Andrew Jackson, and stated it gave him
the power to peacefully and voluntarily give the Indians the option to move from the states east of the
Mississippi River to the unoccupied land west. When this was approved, most did not think the land
west of the Mississippi would ever be a part of the country. Since that was believed, the wester land
was promised as permanent homeland for those who moved, but after they moved the government
continually made the portion of land the Indians were promised smaller and smaller. After many of

An Analysis Of Clarke Thought On The Surface
Before this, Clarke thought everything was on the surface, thought that everything was so simple. But
as she stared at the deep laceration that tattooed her wrist, she knew that was merely a concept of an
untrue nature. The mark on her arm had layers; it held more intricacy than what met the eye. As she
scrutinised it, she was overwhelmed by the prodigious knowledge she had attained, she felt suffocated
by the capabilities of the bite on her wrist. She wondered how something so grotesque and so
aggressive, could be so bewildering and tragically beautiful all at once. It was art, Clarke thought.
That would make sense; art was always built on tragedy. It was tantalising her with its metallic glaze
and black and blue complexion, glaring right back at her. She held a fascination towards it, something
only an artist could have. It s something she would have captured with bold colours and defined lines,
though she knew that something with this much power could not be easily justified. She was so caught
up in its undeniable beauty that, for a moment, she almost dismissed her surroundings, and the pain
that her body embraced. Almost. She inhaled deeply, bringing herself back to reality and taking in the
smell of Mother Nature s conquest. She had gotten used to the lingering scent of death for the past
seven years, that it was merely an undertone of the smells of the small forest growing in the forgotten
mall she was condemned to. Her exhale was entangled with a rugged laugh. Who

Sexual Violence And Gender Based Violence Against Women...
3.1. Sexual violence and gender based violence against women and girls
Wartime sexual and gender based violence is one of the main concerns of SCR 1325. Violence against
women in the forms of rape, torture, sexual slavery, forced pregnancy, forced sterilization and murder
has increasing become a routine weapon of war (Willett, 2010, pp. 153 154). A further concern is the
persistence of widespread sexual violence, even after political stabilisation, where sexual violence
becomes a normal part of society and its systems. Sexual and gender based violence, including the
threat of violence, is a powerful tactic of war that services to exclude women s participation and
enforce their victimisation and subservience (Willett, 2010, pp. 154).

committees (Ebrahimkhel, 2013, p. 1). In 2009, the Law on the Elimination of Violence Against
Women was (EVAW) decreed into law by an executive order by the President. The EVAW law banned

Despite the Government s efforts, a number of reports demonstrate an alarming increase in violence

UN OHCHR, 2015, pp. 7 9). Women report cases of physical abuse, forced marriages, and the
continued existence of entrenched cultural practices, such as baad (the exchange of women and girls
to end family feuds).
There is a lack of official primary and comprehensive data on violence against women in Afghanistan.
The Government of Afghanistan reported 4,505 registered incidents of violence against women in 32

Willful Brain Activity The article, Willful Modulation of Brain Activity in Disorders of Consciousness, from the New England Journal of Medicine explains that there is a difference in being in vegetative state and being somewhat partially aware while unconscious through a clinical assessment information such as can the patient benefit from treatments and stimulation. If a patient is considered to be partially aware there can be other options for the patient which could help guide family members in a direction of which care is best for the patient. In probing into how I felt in trying the imagery tasks on my own, how the questions were asked to the study participants and patient, and the importance of the brain function will bring an understanding of brain function. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The motor imagery task and a spatial imagery task. In trying to imagine swinging an arm to hit the ball back and forth to an imagined instructor was possible, but also stimulating. The exercise required listening and also physical activity. In the second scenario I imagined walking through each room of my house I found that I could not concentrate on the task for the reason of the thirty second periods of mental imagery (not enough time for me to think). I could see that this task would help stimulate a patient that is partially aware since it seems it would be able to exercise the brain. The communication tasks that were used in the study seemed appropriate since the investigator used a MRI to track the movement of the study participants or the patient s brain. Although I wonder if the questions had to be yes or no questions in order for the brain to respond through the MRI. Could the investigator ask the people in the study or the patient how many brothers do you have and receive a mental imagery response. The exercise proved to be able to stimulate the minds of the study participants and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Populist Party Thesis The Populist Party After the Grant Administration Scandal and the intimidation of Political Machines like Tammany Hall, Americans in the 1890s were fed up with the traditional Republican and Democratic parties. The people were ready for change, and from this dissatisfaction, the Populist Party was born. The Populist Party, also call the People s Party, sought to transform the federal government in favor of public interest. The Populist Party helped to bring about change that Americans wanted, and the efforts of this party are still noticeable in today s government. The Populists wanted the government to be more actively involved in the economy. Prior to this plea for reform, the American federal government played a small role in economy; their job was to stimulate economic growth, not to regulate it. In their 1896 National Platform, the Populists called for higher income tax on the more wealthy citizens. The graduated income tax endorsed by Populists was adopted after the dissipation of the Party and is still used today. Currently, depending on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Populist Party recognized that privately owned railroads proved to be a real problem for farmers who were trying to ship crops across the country at reasonable prices. The new party called for a switch from private to public owned and regulated railroads. In the 1896 Platform, the Populists argued that since the railroads were a means of exchange and public necessity , then the government should operate the railroads in the best interest of the people. They claimed the Robber Barons, like Andrew Carnegie, of the railroad corporations would cause the impairment if not destruction of the political rights and personal liberties of the citizens. • 4. Heinrich Himmler And His Life Essay Heinrich Himmler was born on October 7th, 1900 in Munich to a middle class Bavarian family. His father was Joseph Gebhard Himmler, a secondary school teacher and principal. His mother was Anna Maria Himmler (maiden name Heyder), a devout Catholic and extremely attentive mother. Heinrich had an older brother, Gebhard Ludwig Himmler, and a younger brother, Ernst Hermann Himmler. Heinrich was named after his godparent, Prince Heinrich of Wittelsbach of the royal family of Bavaria, who was tutored by Gebhard Himmler. Educated at secondary school in Landshut, Himmler served as an officer cadet in the 11th Bavarian Regiment at the end of WW1, although he saw no active service. After working briefly as a salesman for a fertilizer manufacturing firm, Heinrich Himmler joined the Nazi party and in the November of 1923 participated in the Beer Hall Putsch as a standard bearer at the side of Ernst Rohm. All of these roles combined together were a major reason for Heinrich Himmler being chosen for the jobs he received later in his militaristic life. It is surprising, that Heinrich Himmler, the chief of the SS and the primary architect of the Holocaust, has not attracted the attentions of more biographers. For all that he had taken part in for the history of the Third Reich, he appears to lack the infamous charisma of Heydrich or Hitler, and because of this lack of infamous charisma he has been presented only rarely as a primary subject for a book about the holocaust and the ... Life Reflected In William Cullen Bryant s Poetry William Cullen Bryant William Cullen Bryant was a man with many different abilities and he was well rounded between political, religious, and writing matters. He had very strong opinions on matters that greatly influenced the United States. William Cullen Bryant had many historical and political contributions through his life as a writer and a free willed man. William Cullen Bryant had a very successful early life. He was considered to be a puritan since a young age. The religious training the young boy received at his hands left such a mark upon him that Bryant the mature poet has sometimes been called a puritan (Unger 151). Bryant was pushed by his father and his teachings to be a puritan and keep up puritan ways. Coming from Puritans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These diverse issues included slavery, sectionalism, the national bank, currency stabilization, the creation of Central Park, the need for prison reform, labor rights, copyright laws, and freedom of the press ( Bryant, William Cullen 3). Bryant didn t want to be in politics but he used his writing to show his opinion on all of his political related topics. Although he did not intend to be in politics, that was a very strong area for him. Bryant joined the Democratic Party and made the Post an organ of free trade, free speech, abolition, and workingmen s rights. He later was a founder of the Republican Party ( William Cullen Bryant 1). The topic of slavery was one of Bryant s biggest struggles. He had a very strong opinion against slavery and was in some cases considered to be an abolitionist. Bryant devoted his time to trying to stop the spread of slavery. Bryant s beliefs against slavery hurt the Evening Post and was eventually hated in the south because of his edits against slavery. He put up the slogan above the masthead of the editorials: Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Trade, and Free Speech, which was the slogan for the Barnburner wing of the Democratic Party, which made people hate him even more ( Bryant, William Cullen 3). Bryant thought in a way that slavery would dissipate on it s own, but however that was not the case. With many issues legally among the savery, he began to write immensely ... • 6. Overpopulation Is A Major Challenge That Humans Face Today Overpopulation is a major challenge that humans face today. The human population is close to 8 billion, and at our current birthrate, we are adding nearly one billion more people every 12 years. Issues such as dependence of natural resources, degradation of the environment, poverty, and unemployment, are root causes of overpopulation. Though opponents of this theory, such as Erle C. Ellis uses archeological records, and the history of human evolution to argue against overpopulation. Robert Walker, on the other hand, disagrees. Ellis points out that these innovations are still being used before since the last ice age ended. So, if hunter gatherers were, therefore, successful worldwide at that time, human innovation will adapt. Ellis further argues that, the planet s carrying capacity of hunter gatherers was not any more than 100 million. Without their stone tools, he argues, the amount would be a lot less. The creation of agriculture, eventually empowered a higher population growth, which needed more land use. Although the population is much greater now, approximately 7.2 billion, society has adapted with innovation. In contrast to a UN assessment, Ellis believes that a peak population is sustainable if obligatory investments are finalizing in the substructure and conducive trade, supplemented with anti scarceness and food security strategies. , For instance, Chinese agriculture, shows that population growth will increase efficiency; this is because the relationship between population and economic wealth displays an increase of productivity. As the population rises, so does the productivity that matches the stock of food available, this is due to Anthropocene. • 7. Smallpox Is An Acute Contagious Disease SMALLPOX Introduction Smallpox is an acute contagious disease that is caused by the variola virus which is a member of the Genus Orthopoxvirus family. It infects humans only as a result of its ability to escape the host immune system, and avoid any further activation (Koplow 2003). The virus is a two stranded DNA virus. There exist two forms of the variola virus namely the variola major and variola minor. Variola major is the one that is lethal, while variola minor is not lethal but a mere strain. The most common strain is the variola major, which produces the more severe symptoms and with a higher fatality rate of 20% to 40%, within a week of infection (Koplow 2003). Key features of the life cycle(s) The initial step is whereby the virus attaches to the host cell and infects an individual. It normally enters through the respiratory system. It attaches to the mouth, trachea or lung mucosa. The cells forming the mucous membrane are loosely packed hence permitting penetration and movement into the saliva. Once the virus reaches the cell membrane, it penetrates through endocytosis. In the host cell, the main protein in released (Koplow 2003). The virus replicates in the cytoplasm of the host cell. DNA replication and transcription may start immediately as the virus itself contains enzymes for replication and transcription. It does not rely on the host cell enzymes to begin replication (Koplow 2003). First, the DNA and RNA polymerase are made, along with other transcription ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Desire Unspoken In Baby Driver By Edgar Wright A Desire Unspoken Women should be seen, not heard. A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some point in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a woman s worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises the traits of obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout history women s lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who listens to her father, being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting anything for themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for her own happiness, but to make others happy. A woman must be self sacrificing and put the wants and needs of her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own happiness for others is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again women are used as tragic martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years popular film Baby Driver by Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or personality of her own. She only exists in relation to the main character and is there to make him happy and feel good. Even in current films and media women are still being portrayed as one dimensional props whose only purpose is to look pretty and be agreeable. Unfortunately, during most of this century many people equated whistleblowers with tattle tales. The people who followed this religion were expected to live an earnest life.Though it seemed that the Puritans knew their religion very well and followed all the customs and practices, there was much hypocrisy. Author Arthur Miller and Nathaniel Hawthorne depict this contradiction in their novels The Crucible and The Scarlet Letter. In the Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne uses a resentful tone to describe the feeling of being a hypocrite. She is a character in The Scarlet Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hester Prynne is a woman who was condemned by a Puritan town for being an adulterer. This conclusion is evident because she became pregnant while her husband was lost at sea . Hester s conviction is openly displayed by a scarlet letter on her chest. She is immediately isolated once released, and she begins her transition into her new self. A key factor in the character development of Hester Prynne is the shame she experienced. She sought love in someone other than her husband, who was thought to be dead, and she was openly punished for her sins. After released she remained encumbered in her punishment. She remained in town, and lived a plain life. Her guilt left her stuck in a constant state of restriction. She used her immense skill of needlework for the poor, and an occasional extravagance. In one of his theories Death of the author he argues that by giving a text an author is to impose a limit on that text . He claims that having knowledge of the author s background and purpose for the text restricts the readers imaginative license to build their own interpretations, and that the author and text are completely unrelated. Barthes declares, The death of the author is the birth of the reader. In poetry, the author is a significant part of the poem as most poetry is a reflection of the poets experiences through the use of metaphors and other poetic devices. To ignore this is to diffuse a poem of its deeper meaning and connections. We can use Full Moon and Little Frieda by Ted Hughes to argue against Barthes theory. Hughes wrote this poem about his daughter Frieda s fascination with nature. The poem frames a specific scene somewhere in the country: A cool small evening shrunk to a dog bark and the clank of a bucket And you listening. A spider s web, tense for the dew s touch. A pail lifted, still and brimming mirror To tempt a first star to a tremor. Cows are going home in the lane there, looping the hedges with their warm wreaths of breath A dark river of blood, many boulders, Balancing unspilled milk. Moon! you cry suddenly, Moon! Moon! The moon has stepped back like an artist gazing amazed at a work That points at him amazed. The Nature of Intermolecular Forces: The Intermolecular Forces (forces between molecules) are weaker than Intramolecular Forces (The Chemical Bonds within an Individual Molecule). This distinction is the reason we define the molecule in the first place. The properties of matter result from the properties of the individual molecule (resulting from chemical bonding) and how the molecules act collectively (resulting from intermolecular forces). Intermolecular Forces are longest ranged (act strongly over a large distance) when they are electrostatic. Interaction of Charge Monopoles (simple charges) is the longest ranged electrostatic force. Charge Charge forces (found in ionic crystals) For like charges (+,+) or ( , ), this force is always repulsive. For unlike charges (+, ), this force is always attractive. The explicit sexual theme in Whitman s works is the chief source of the delayed recognition Leaves of Grass eventually receives. Whitman initially incorporated the sexual theme into two articles for the Brooklyn paper. Whitman was forced to resign because of the indignation of some of his readers (Asselineau 107). This fueled his desire to teach the general population that sex is universal and should be embraced without fear and anxiety. The body, he teaches, is beautiful. Sex is also beautiful (Whitman 208). Wandering further, he finds himself at the edge of the tournament field, where he finds a few people suited in armor and practicing against one another for the upcoming battle. • 29. Pros And Cons Of Merit Pay Merit Pay The controversy of the merit pay system has been a highly contentious discussion in the field of education, most notably in my school district. As stated in the Education Commission of the United States, merit pay is pay for performance where a teacher s compensation is tied to the performance in the classroom (2010). While merit pay for classroom teachers has been around for decades, it is increasingly becoming an issue around the country. As seen in my district, the issue has become a non negotiable topic as the district is negotiating a new contract with the teacher s union. The district s proposal to include it in the new contract in order to improve student outcomes, attract new, highly qualified teachers to the district, and retain the proficient teachers already employed in the schools. The political influence increased when President Barack Obama introduced the Race to the Top Initiative. As stated in Howell Magazinnik, the Race to the Top Initiative was created to stimulate the adoption of education reforms in the state governments of education (2017). The debate has been ongoing surrounding the pros and cons of merit pay with both supporters and opposition. The merit pay system will continue to have legal implications for school leaders as it impacts the rights of teachers, but the impact on student achievement. I support merit pay as it is prescribed to tie teacher performance to pay increases. History of Merit Pay Historically, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mexican People And Misrepresented In The Mexican People Many times, Mexican people are misrepresented in the media whether it s a person writing a racist remark on social media, the president speaking ill of Mexican people, or just people blaming Mexican s for stealing jobs from them that they didn t want to do in the first place. Even the Mexican people born in the United States are criticized just as much as immigrants are because of their race, name, or just because they may look like the typical Mexican to other people but how can someone try to marginalize other documented citizens for such simple characteristics? It s sad and upsetting to see how a single person can corrupt most individuals to believe such remarks made towards my Mexican community to get votes for a presidential election. Trump as we all know it has made many remarks towards Mexicans while running for office and this sparked a racial conflict between Mexicans vs the people who support his mindless verbal attacks, when Trump was running for office he made this remark that stood out to me a lot, When Mexico sends its people, they re not sending their best... They re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people . Essay about Historical Analysis of the Military Draft Policy Historical Analysis of the Military Draft Policy The Constitution adopted in 1789 gave Congress the power to raise and support armies, but it neither mentioned nor prohibited conscription. The Framers left that issue to the future, although most of them believed that the United States like Britain would enlist its men rather than conscript them, and would pay for its armies through the power to tax. Not until World War I did the United States rely primarily upon conscription. The Selective Service Act of 1917 was adopted in large part because a civilian led preparedness movement had persuaded many Americans that a selective national draft was the most equitable and efficient way for an industrial society to raise a wartime army. ... Registration continues today as a hedge against underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a future crisis. It should be noted that the President cannot initiate a draft on his own. Congress would first have to pass legislation (both the House and Senate), and the President would have to sign the bill into law. Disney can be easily compared to the roots of a tree, as its company is continuously growing into every area it can absorb from in this case, absorbing money. Disney has an industry in the entertainment business, the tourism business, the amusement park industry, and so much more. A company with accessibility in as many markets as Disney possesses is on its way to gaining a large amount of market power. This could be a red flag as it is not unlikely that market power can go hand in hand with monopolization, so should we be scared of the progression of Disney as a company? • 36. Crack Cocaine And Drug Addiction The drug crack cocaine is the crystalized form of cocaine that normally comes in a powder form. Smoking crack cocaine, which is way stronger than crack itself, permits the drug to reach the brain faster which brings a strong and almost instantaneous high that endures for approximately fifteen minutes. Because crack cocaine addiction can develop quicker if the substance is smoked rather than inhaled, the user can develop an addiction after their first time even experiencing the drug. Crack cocaine has a high cost, while crack alone is traded at low cost. Once a crack cocaine user is addicted, the amount that they tend to use increases and the price also increases causes a direct struggle for funds in order to pay. The definitions of crack cocaine addictions can vary, but most incorporate the fact that as a staple norm the persistent use of a drug notwithstanding the presence of undesirable and damaging consequences and concerns for the user s well being, employment, financial stability, and relationships/associations. The significant component of crack cocaine is the users craving and loss of control, indicating the failure of the user to change their uncontrollable behavior. From doing research on this topic, I found that cocaine addiction was once assumed to be mainly mental in nature. In the book that we read in class, Fast Lives by Claire Sterk, she challenges the common misperceptions of crack cocaine and shows us through study that the common perceptions that we have ... His role as president led him to pass nine treaties and Indian Removal Act, although everything he passed was not what was promised. There are now questions about what the removal was, how Jackson got it passed, and is it what the Indians expected it to be? President Jackson got the Indian Removal Act passed on May 28, 1830, when it was passed it said that the move west would be voluntary and peaceful, although Jackson and his administration had other plans for the Indians and their land. This policy first came up during the process of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, although it did not pass until the exchange of land with the government and Indians. The Indian Removal Act was passed by Congress on May 28, 1830. This was passed by President Andrew Jackson, and stated it gave him the power to peacefully and voluntarily give the Indians the option to move from the states east of the Mississippi River to the unoccupied land west. When this was approved, most did not think the land west of the Mississippi would ever be a part of the country. But as she stared at the deep laceration that tattooed her wrist, she knew that was merely a concept of an untrue nature. The mark on her arm had layers; it held more intricacy than what met the eye. As she scrutinised it, she was overwhelmed by the prodigious knowledge she had attained, she felt suffocated by the capabilities of the bite on her wrist. She wondered how something so grotesque and so aggressive, could be so bewildering and tragically beautiful all at once. It was art, Clarke thought. That would make sense; art was always built on tragedy. It was tantalising her with its metallic glaze and black and blue complexion, glaring right back at her. She held a fascination towards it, something only an artist could have. It s something she would have captured with bold colours and defined lines, though she knew that something with this much power could not be easily justified. Violence against women in the forms of rape, torture, sexual slavery, forced pregnancy, forced sterilization and murder has increasing become a routine weapon of war (Willett, 2010, pp. 153 154). A further concern is the persistence of widespread sexual violence, even after political stabilisation, where sexual violence becomes a normal part of society and its systems.
