ABSTRACT: Day by day, there is a higher rate of need for accurate automation system to be used in industries and environment monitoring and control. In water treatment plants during the filtration phase, there is a process called backwashing, which particles suspended in the filter basin are removed. in this process the water are forcedly pumped through the filter in upward direction at enough speed to expand the filter media. Therefore, various types of valves used, which are opened and closed in a time sequencing manner. The paper proposed an automation control system for the backwashing process to be initiated and completed automatically using PLC, level sensors and valves installed inside the filter basin. Practically, a control system has been applied which all valves are opened and closed according to wireless signals coming from PLCs on its suitable time. In summary, the control in the process demonstrated that the proposed system is efficient, effective, and able to be reliable. Besides, the results increase the productivity at a low-cost mode.

The information and control system allows both software and hardware to establish a connection with each other despite
varied sources. It offers you get a quick insight into the objects' function and also enables users to monitor an endless
number of installations irrespective of the demographic location in real time. In this manner, a laptop, smartphone, or PC
allows performing the entire task in the most convenient manner.
Remote Monitoring & Control system in India has resolved the issue to a large extent. It empowers total, computerized
checking by specialists at a central area just as manual changes by procedure ventures at explicit
destinations by nearby local organizations as required. The system enables operators to accelerate, back off, or generally
change a particular part of the procedure as distinguished by the refined central monitoring system.
The functions of the pumping station in case of remote process monitoring of the water supply system have resolved
many issues at a considerable rate. Today, data transmission is dependent on the web application. The configuration is
developed depending on the Microsoft tools and a set of pre-de-ned web services. This empowers steady and solid
information transmission from the pumping station to the dispatch center along with the signal commands from the
middle to the local control unit. The framework gives the administrator in the dispatch center the perception of control
of ces with the graphical and unthinkable introduction of pertinent qualities and parameters. The operator can screen the
usefulness of the whole structure on the SCADA Base Remote Monitoring screen, and alert reports help with finding
issues, which adds to a huge increment in upkeep effectiveness. The association between the dispatch center and
pumping station is built up with remote information transmission utilizing cell phone administrators.

In today’s global scenario, water wastage and water shortage are an over rising problem. With the world population rising minute by minute, the need for water is increasing and therefore water conservation is the need of the hour. Today’s industries need huge amount of manpower for system supervision. We have come out with a solution where we use sensors to measure the water level of the storage system and be informed about the same, saving human efforts. Here, sensors are fit in the storage tank at different levels. The sensors are further connected to a microcontroller. The sensors detect the water level and inform it to the microcontroller which displays the storage tank status on the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). A gate mechanism is also attached to this system which is triggered when the water level reaches the brim of the storage system.
IOT based Water Level Monitoring system is an improved system which will inform the users about the level of liquid and will prevent it from overflowing. To demonstrate this the system makes use of containers, where the ultrasonic sensors placed over the containers to detect the liquid level and compare it with the container’s depth. The system makes use of AVR family microcontroller, Arduino, LCD screen, Wi-Fi modem for sending data and a buzzer. A 12 V transformer is used for power supply in this system. The LCD screen is used to display the status of the level of liquid in the containers. The liquid level is highlighted as colored to show the level of liquid present in the container with the help of a web page to the user. The buzzer starts ringing when the set limit of the liquid is crossed. Thus this system helps

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs

2. Cities represent 2% of the world’s surface area and hold more than
50% of its population
Distribution losses(NRW/UFW) are estimated at 34% in Indian cities
(average)
90% of wastewater in developing countries is discharged into rivers
and water bodies without treatment.
India ranked 120thamong 122 countries in terms of quality of water
available to its citizens(2010)
38 million Indians suffer from water borne diseases –resulting in
780,000 deaths annually
4. Municipal Corporation in India are facing with aging infrastructure
and negative operating budgets, serious water leakages, which
resulted in spending lakhs of rupees for the water going waste
Implementation of appropriate measures receiving the full
attention of the water industry, It has been exploring how
technology can contribute to these efforts.
Technology for such a system is nothing new. Many of them are in
operation, today, throughout the water industry. One of them is
SCADA system.
5. "SCADA" stands for “Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition”
It is the principal automated and integrated tool for State Public Works
Departments and Municipal Corporations in India to implement
remote monitoring for effective control
A SCADA system performs four functions:
Data acquisition
Networked data communication
Data presentation
Control
6. Major objectives of implementing SCADA System in Municipal Corporation
To obtain real time hydraulic data at central location
Centralized data analysis
Nodal water supply analysis through trunk main metering
Identifying root causes to non compliance to equitable distribution
7.
8. These functions are performed by four kinds of SCADA components:
Sensors
It is directly interface with the managed system
Remote telemetry units (RTUs)
These are small computerized units deployed in the field at specific sites and locations.
RTUs serve as local collection points for gathering reports from sensors and delivering
commands to control relays
SCADA master units
These are larger computer consoles that serve as the central processor for the SCADA
system. Master units provide a human interface to the system and automatically
regulate the managed system in response to sensor inputs
The communications network
It connects the SCADA master unit to the RTUs in the field
SCADA SYSTEM COMPONENTS
13. Functions of SCADA System
Data Presentation
SCADA systems report to human operators over a master station, HMI (Human-Machine
Interface) or HCI (Human-Computer Interface).
SCADA master station has several different functions:
continuously monitors all sensors and alerts the operator when there is an “alarm”
presents a comprehensive view of the entire managed system,
presents more detail in response to user requests
performs data processing on information gathered from sensors
maintains report logs and summarizes historical trends.
16. Features Of SCADA System
To capture real time hydraulic data and the level of ESRs/GSRs, various instruments such
as Ultrasonic multipath flow meters, Electromagnetic flow meters, Ultrasonic level
transmitters, Pressure transmitters, etc. are installed for
Capturing accurate velocity measurement through multiple velocity scanning through pipe
cross section
Online installation by hot tapping method, no need to water shut down
In built data logger to store the data locally for 5 years
Wireless data transmission of flow records on GSM/GPRS to Central control room
18. IMPLEMENTING SITE SECURITY MEASURES
A pump station is an example of a vulnerable area in which an RTU is normally
present. Functions of the RTU are generally limited to pump control, using input
from flow or level sensors.
The figure below shows such an installation augmented with a highly informative
surveillance system that is resistant to concerted attempts to overcome security.
19. Secure SCADA System
SCADA systems very commonly employ measures such as back-up power systems,
redundancy, distributed workstations, password security and remote paging.
Redundancy is a common technique, especially for plant LAN's. Two, live networks are
used. If one is damaged, communication continues on the other.
21. Changes after implementation of SCADA At Water Treatment Plan
Continuous Monitoring Of water Quality parameters like Chlorine, PH &
turbidity made available. Data generated & Supervisory control via alarm
programming is done to maintain quality of water
Installed &commissioned Accurate Multipath Flow meters to work
satisfactory at Limited straight run pipe conditions. Rate of Flow monitoring
which is real derivative to acknowledge clogged bed condition is utilized to
generate automatic BED WASH ALARM.
22. Changes after implementation of SCADA system at Elevated Storage
Reservoir (ESR)/ Ground Storage Reservoir (GSR)
Continuous Monitoring Of water Quality parameters like Chlorine, Data
generated & Supervisory control via alarm programming is done to maintain
quality of water.
Continuous Monitoring of ESR Level made possible by installing ultrasonic
level transmitters, Data generated & Supervisory control via alarm
programming is done to maintain quality of water
23. MIS reports generated through the SCADA system
SCADA system enables to generate MIS data for zone wise water distribution
for analysis and also helps further to provide equitable water distribution to
zones.
MIS reports generated daily and monthly basis which is shared with Executive
Engineer water supply on regular basis.
It was learnt that the billing for more than seventy thousand consumers are
being done effectively and timely due to Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)
24. Conclusion
Since SCADA systems exist in most water operations, they allow water companies to
leverage existing infrastructure and available resources.
The SCADA system is typically distributed throughout the entire operation. It should be
central to a water company's security and, at the same time, can provide the added
benefit of more efficient operation.
Practices typical in SCADA provide security for the system, itself:
· Backup power systems
· Redundant networks
· Distributed operator workstations
· Alarm system alerts operators to failures of SCADA components
· Typically private networks that are not accessible to the outside world
· Password security
· Dialup and paging
Furthermore, the value of the SCADA system can be enhanced if it incorporates
advanced capabilities, such as modelling and simulation.
