Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry released the Dubai Innovation Index Report. The Report highlights the results of the Dubai Innovation Index (DII) which was launched by Dubai Chamber in collaboration with PwC in 2015, to support UAE’s vision for innovation and to promote Dubai’s quest towards being the smartest city in the world by 2021.
The Index has been designed to compare Dubai with 28 global cities on macroeconomic measures of innovation and to analyze innovation performance of Dubai’s private sector, including at the firm level. Through the Index, the Chamber wants to create awareness and increase the participation of the private sector in the total innovation efforts of the city of Dubai, and provide a benchmark to measure innovation.
In the Report, London has emerged as the most innovative city, followed by Hong Kong and Singapore respectively. Dubai ranks 16th across 28 global cities, ahead of cities such as Madrid, Milan, Sao Paulo, Mumbai, Shanghai and Beijing.
Innovation involves thinking differently, creatively and insightfully to create solutions that have an impact in terms of social and economic value.
National Innovation Council (NInC) was setup under the Chairmanship of Mr. Sam Pitroda, Adviser to the PM on PIII to discuss, to analyse and help implement strategies for inclusive innovation in India and prepare a Roadmap for Innovation 2010-2020. NInC would be the first step in creating a crosscutting system which will provide mutually reinforcing policies, recommendations and methodologies to implement and boost innovation performance in the country.
This book highlights some of the key initiatives that NInC has taken in last four years to promote innovations in the country.

What makes a city “smart” in the digital age? How can a complex urban fabric develop intelligence that drives planning, decision-making and positively affects the lives of its population? What ingredients—be they organizational, technological, cultural or regulatory— enable a metropolis to re-invent its modus operandi and achieve sustained developmental strides? In short, how can a local government build a “smart city” and generate public value? In exploring these questions, this study provides an in-depth analysis of the critical first phase of Dubai’s mega-transformation into a smart city. Dubai’s stated objective in building the smart city is to improve the quality of life and raise the levels of public “happiness”. Its vision is not just to be the “smartest” city in the world by 2017, but also to be one of the “happiest” places on earth to live and work. Achieving these two ambitious goals requires addressing numerous organizational, technological, cultural and policy challenges. This study analyzes these challenges as well as the milestones reached, through tracing the paths taken by different stakeholders and documenting the multifaceted lessons learned. The findings provide ample evidence suggesting that the technological infrastructure, regulatory frameworks and organizational structures are now in place as critical foundations for building the smart city.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

Through our interactive workshops, students can dive deeper into specific topics, working on projects that challenge them to apply what they've learned and think creatively. Our summer camps offer an immersive experience where students can collaborate on larger projects, develop their teamwork skills, and gain confidence in their abilities.
In addition to our local programs, Up the Ratios is committed to making a global impact. We take donations of new and gently used robotics parts, which we then distribute to students and educational institutions in other countries. These donations help ensure that young learners worldwide have the resources they need to explore and excel in STEM fields. By supporting education in this way, we aim to nurture a global community of future leaders and innovators.
Our live lectures feature guest speakers from various STEM disciplines, including engineers, scientists, and industry professionals who share their knowledge and experiences with our students. These lectures provide valuable insights into potential career paths and inspire students to pursue their passions in STEM.
Up the Ratios relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to continue our work. Contributions of time, expertise, and financial support are crucial to sustaining our programs and expanding our reach. Whether you're an individual passionate about education, a professional in the STEM field, or a company looking to give back to the community, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.
We are proud of the positive impact we've had on the lives of countless students, many of whom have gone on to pursue higher education and careers in STEM. By providing these young minds with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we are not only changing their futures but also contributing to the advancement of technology and innovation on a broader scale.

Good City Foundation (formerly, Future City Summit
Ltd.) has always worked for fostering growth of the
entrepreneurial ecosystem in Emerging Cities across
regions. We came here in Yogyakarta with our signature
development program Public-Private Partnership by
Youth to explore the future of co-living, co-working and
the future of workforce. Greatly inspired by the high
entrepreneurial spirit of the city and the young population,
together with DIY Academy, Block 71 Yogyakarta and
other stakeholders, we are working on setting stronger
footprintinthecity,workcloselywiththelocalgovernment
for the development of Yogyakarta as a smart city and
the development of local startups.
Bringing all related stakeholders in one forum with
the goals to solve social problems is definitely not
an easy job to do especially when involving so many
interests across nations. However, the folks from Future
City Summit in Public Private Partnership can pull through
it nicely in quite a short period of time! Solving the social
problems are of course not an easy job to do, and it
requires a lot of people that will willingly collaborate to
achieve communal goals. Thus, the initiatives have to be
carried on to make PPP one of the platforms that connect
government agencies, private companies, and the
citizens to have a constructive dialogue to solve social
problems. From there, I hope it can allow the innovation
to grow organically to serve as a real solution to answer
the problems that are being addressed and to give access
to even more stakeholders to contribute.

KEYNOTE SPEECHES
Based on research, 65 percent of elementary school
students currently, later they will work the jobs that do
not currently exist. The impact of the Industrial Revolution
4.0 will eliminate some types of work, because it was
replaced by a computerized or digitalized system. In
order to deal with the Industrial Revolution 4.0, educators
are required to be able to send students who continue to
be human learners (long life learners).
The pattern of education in the past, is now becoming
less relevant to be applied to the current generation
which is directly applied to the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Program activities in school and outside the school are
expected to be able to contain the competencies needed
by millennials to be ready for a competitive future by
forming millennials who are not only intelligent, but
must have good character and stick to the traditions and
cultures they have.

Special Sharing
Eradicating Unemployment
through Co-Living and
Co-Working
The Indonesian economy requires acceleration
as an effort to compete in a dynamic global
industry. Economic policies and synergy between
various stakeholders are needed to foster innovation
and entrepreneurship that is initiated by the younger
generation so that it can be realized immediately without
colliding with some rules and bureaucracy.
The birth of small and medium enterprises and other
innovations launched by the younger generation are
expected to be able to grow the pace of the Indonesian
economy.
Co-Working and Co-Living environment is urgently
needed to facilitate the needs of young entrepreneurs,
startup communities and potential investors to align
their mission and widen the network in a good and
representative space. Yogyakarta as hub of education
has a strategic value to connect and collaborate any
stakeholders in order to empower the future workforce
that eventually eradicate unemployment rate in the future.

Panel Discussion 1: Future Ready Tourism Strategy for
Yogyakarta 2025 and Beyond
How shall we redefine the meanings and values of
tourism in a city? How will the tourism industry
be like coming in 5-10 years? How to harmonize the
concept of sustainable tourism between the government
and business people? This discussion will involve
business doers, private sectors and the Government
representatives to link the needs of each party in realizing
sustainable tourism for the future as well as involving
young generations to align the market needs and current
technology.
Yogyakarta has been chosen as one of the four priority
tourist destinations in Indonesia from the Joko Widodo’s
Government. With the construction of several integrated
tourism facilities in Yogyakarta, it is hoped that foreign
tourists who come to Yogyakarta will not only stop for
holidays, but will also be actively involved in creative
industries, socio-cultural projects or voluntary activities
that will later contribute to human empowerment through
co-working and co-living environment so that Yogyakarta
will be one of the educational tourism destinations in
Indonesia.

Panel Discussion 2:
Youth, Technology
and Entrepreneurship:
What Can be Used for
Industrialization 4.0?
The potential of the Indonesian nation to become
a producer in the IT field in particular is huge.
However, this potential is still not much explored and
many young Indonesians are still reluctant to enter
the startup world, one of them for fear of failure. The
emergence of successful local startups, such as Go-Jek,
HijUp, Tokopedia, and Bukalapak shows that Indonesia is
able to become a producer at home and is able to provide
solutions related to the problems of the Indonesian
people through an IT based approach.

Co-Working Space: Optimization to Support Startup
Productivity & Student Housing in Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta has quite a lot of co-working spaces
scattered in various regions. Co-working space is
currently in great demand mainly by freelancers, students
or startups in Yogyakarta. However, among the many
coworking spaces that are available in Yogyakarta, there
have been no new breakthroughs and strategic projects
to optimize productivity among business owners and
business partners to accelerate economic growth while
expanding their network.
This panel discussion will discuss coworking business
strategies that are widely available in Yogyakarta as well
as to unite and collaborate with each other in creating
productivity and innovative solutions on how to make
working and living spaces will be affordable for young
entrepreneurs in Yogyakarta.
