Sun Sang Eco Village is a community property,
with each bamboo house co-owned by impact
investors and managed by our management.
Working closely with local communities, we offer
sustainable solutions to over development
problems in Bali. By using renewable resources to
build houses, we aim to reduce carbon footprint
usually linked to property development. To further
promote our agenda, we also provide a learning
center that is open to the public, a space for a
permaculture garden, and solar energy for
electricity.
In this Public Private Partnership by Youth Bali
2020, the development program, in partnership
with the City Government and Harvard Graduate
School of Design, aims to carry out deep dialogue
with the local government to understand the
development and planning of future tourism in Bali
Island, and develop an urban transformation case
with the portfolio venture Sun Sang Village, a
village expansion blueprint would be formulated in
the program.

Seven days were spent with Harvard Graduate
School of Design masters and undergraduates
from Udayana University as 6 teams of 4. The
teams were assigned to carry out field studies,
observation, household interviews and landscape
measurement. The objective of the design is an
expansion blueprint and advancement plan for the
village.
Special site inspection was also carried to
incorporate the village expansion design with the
empty land nearby for a supporting organisation
ReLab to develop into a green gym concept, with
nearby environments and materials.

Ayip Budiman Creative Fellowship
(ABCF)
In the memory of Pak Ayip Budiman, the
cofounder of creative space Rumah Sanur
Creative Hub Bali, Ayip Budiman Creative
Fellowship (ABCF) is in the place of establishment
with the local partners in Bali Island.
The Fellowship would be established as a pool of
financial resources and employment opportunities
for young creative designers and architects to get
financial and vocational supported in the occasion
of development programs provided by Good City
Foundation in partnership with other top-notch
institutes.
Deeper Partnership with Denpasar City
Government and the Tourism Department
As the Good City Foundation entering the founding membership
of Private Sector Committee of ASEAN Smart Cities Network in
April 2020, the development program series “Public Private
Partnership by Youth” in Bali would be continued with the
deeper partnership, with the soon signing of Memorandum of
Understanding with the Denpasar City Government Tourism
Department.
Impact Evaluation
In the face of latest COVID-19, the Sun Sang Eco
Village adopts one of the development proposals
by the team for developing further the bamboo
economy, turning the Sun Sang Village into a
Bamboo Treatment Centre and Bamboo Factory.
The village venture team currently focuses on
supporting local household tourism clients and
partners for refurbishing their buildings with new
bamboo materials, new bamboo-made furnitures
and other facilities.
As the Bali Island rich in bamboo forest and
related skills, “Bamboo Economy” has been
coined and becomes a focus case study with the
local authority and corporate partners for further
learning and potential economic development
along with the need of new tourism planning.

Menyama braya is one of Balinese concepts of universe. Where Menyama Braya concept is
about seeing other people as our siblings not as strangers. It’s been passed down for a long time
ago as our local wisdom to be our strong foundation to build up and keep balinese social life harmony.
Menyama braya is also a when everyone could accept their differences so they can connect with
each other as a community or family in a common space.
