- 8. Participant Panel Tools • Click the Microphone icon to mute and unmute yourself. • Click on Raise Hand to ask a question. • Click yes (green check) or no (red x) to answer questions. • Click more to clap or give a thumbs up.

- Welcome to the 5th webinar of the 2019 IGNIS season! Ignis is the Latin word for spark or ignite and that’s exactly what we are hoping to do today…to ignite your curiosity & spark your intellect. This webinar series is brought to you by the Office of Educational Technology & Open Education at the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. Your hosts today are: Myself, Alissa Sells and my good friend Kelley Meeusen from Clover Park Technical College.
- Our topic today is the dilemma of late work policies and our presenter is Ellen Bremen. A BIG thank you to Ellen for joining us today to share about this topic.
- We’ve switched web-conferencing tools again this year, so we’ll get started today with a very brief overview of Zoom and a few other minor housekeeping items and then I’ll hand it off to Kelley to officially introduce Ellen. First thing on the list is to check your audio. If you haven’t already done so, you may need to press the Esc key to exit full screen view and find the audio menu. If you are experiencing audio trouble or do not have a headset or speakers, you can call in by phone at +1.669.900.6833 (US Toll) and enter Meeting ID 361 298 378#
- Please note that all of our webinars are live captioned. You can access the captions by clicking on the CC button in the Zoom toolbar at the bottom of your screen.
- Here are some Zoom links you might find helpful during the webinar. You can access the Zoom keyboard shortcuts at http://bit.ly/ZoomShortcuts And the Zoom help center at http://bit.ly/Zoom-Help
- The Participants panel is located near the top right corner of your screen and the Chat panel is located near the bottom right corner of your screen. If you don’t see these panels, click on More in the Zoom toolbar and then on Participants or Chat to add them into your view. Please type your comments and questions into the Zoom Group Chat as we go and we’ll get to them as soon as we can. Please be sure to select ‘Everyone’ from the drop down menu when sending a message so we can all see it. For a full screen view, click on Enter Full Screen and exit it by clicking on Esc
- You will find the participant tools in the Participants panel. You can raise your hand to ask a question by clicking on the hand icon and when it’s your turn to speak, simply click the Microphone icon to unmute your mic. To cut down on background noise, please keep your mic muted when not speaking. If you click on more in the Participant tools, you can give applause or a thumbs up.

- Now I’ll turn it over to Kelley to introduce Ellen. Ellen’s Bio Ellen Bremen has taught for 17 years with an emphasis on interpersonal communication and public speaking. She is currently faculty in the Communication Studies department at Highline College. Ellen has earned three national awards for her teaching innovations, and she holds degrees in both Communication Studies and Post-Secondary Education. Ellen is the author of "Say This, NOT That to Your Professor: 36 Talking Tips for College Success.” She is also a returning IGNIS presenter from 2018. Ellen is a 5x/week Crossfitter, a crocheter, kayaker, and avid television watcher. She lives in Seattle with her husband and two children.
