Welcome to the 3rd webinar of the 2019 IGNIS season!  Ignis is the Latin word for spark or ignite and that’s exactly what we are hoping to do today…to ignite your curiosity & spark your intellect. This webinar series is brought to you by the Office of Educational Technology & Open Education at the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. Your hosts today are: Myself, Alissa Sells and my good friend Kelley Meeusen from Clover Park Technical College. You may remember Kelley as our opening presenter from last week.
  2. Our topic today is how the cognitive and affective dimensions influence cultural competence  and our presenter is Mihaela Cosma. (Me-hi-la Coss-ma) A BIG thank you to Mihaela for joining us today to share about this topic.

We’ve switched web-conferencing tools again this year, so we’ll get started today with a very brief overview of Zoom and a few other minor housekeeping items and then I’ll hand it off to Kelley to officially introduce Mihaela. First thing on the list is to check your audio. If you haven’t already done so, you may need to press the Esc key to exit full screen view and find the audio menu. If you are experiencing audio trouble or do not have a headset or speakers, you can call in by phone at +1.669.900.6833 (US Toll) and enter Meeting ID 361 298 378#

  6. The Participants panel is located near the top right corner of your screen and the Chat panel is located near the bottom right corner of your screen. If you don’t see them, click on More in the Zoom toolbar and then on Participants or Chat to add them into your view. Mihaela would prefer to answer questions at the end of her presentation, so please type your comments and questions into the Zoom Group Chat as we go and we’ll revisit them when she is finished speaking.   9. Now I’ll turn it over to Kelley to introduce Mihaela. Mihaela’s Bio Mihaela Cosma, Ed.S, is a visionary educator engaging adults in transformative learning toward the full expression of the human potential. She has 20+ years of experience in college adult basic education – teaching, designing curriculum, and developing and managing programs. Mihaela has presented at state and national conferences on the role of the affective domain in education, and delivers quarterly workshops on this topic at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, where she has been a professor for 18 years (12 of which she served as the program director of ESL/ABE). She is also a certified resilience/self-regulation trainer, who combines her passion for teaching and learning with her experience in instructional design to bring scientifically validated self-development tools to individuals, communities, and organizations.   Mihaela also dances and performs with Seattle’s Datina Folk Ensemble.  Her next show is on Memorial Day at the NW Folklife Festival.
