Arctic Wolf Essay
Have you ever seen an arctic wolf? If you have, it was probably in a zoo or movie. Did you know that
the arctic wolf is a subspecies of the grey wolf? The arctic wolf mainly inhabits Northern Canada and
Alaska, parts of Greenland and Iceland, and Northern Europe. They are able to withstand subzero
temperatures and spend five out of every twelve months in total darkness. The temperature rarely ever
rises above 22 F. They hunt lemmings, rodents, and Arctic hare, but they will take larger prey as well
like caribou and musk ox. The arctic wolf can run as fast as 46 miles per hour and they rely on other
arctic wolves to help isolate the larger prey. They are pack animals and the pack is usually five to
seven members. The predator of the arctic

Fice Of First Lady
The office, President of the United States of America, is one, if not, the most powerful position in the
modern world that any individual can occupy. However, there is another office in the same building
and even the same family that garners much less attention: the office of First Lady. For the lack of
attention both in historical records, and in public focus, First Ladies throughout the history of the
United States have had much more influence and impact than they have been accredited. One such
woman, Lucretia Garfield began, in her short term, to change the office of First Lady. Lucretia
Garfield challenged the gender normatives of the Gilded Age, and she opened up her role for future
First Ladies to exert their bold presence in the White House. Lucretia began her safari into the world
of men at a young age, beginning with her education. From the moment she was born, on April 19,
1832 in Garretsville Ohio to parents Zebulon and Arabella Rudolph, Lucretia lived an atypical
lifestyle. The Rudolph family, devout Disciples of Christ Church members, engaged with other church
members to build the Western Reserve Eclectic Institution in Hiram College. According to, Notable
American Women: A Biographical Dictionary, Lucretia Rudolph entered Western Reserve Eclectic
Institute in the year 1850 after completing previous studies at Geauga Seminary in Chester Ohio. As
remarkable as it was that Lucretia even received a college level education, she also edited and

Difference Between Weber And Durkheim
Max Weber and Emile Durkheim are considered the founding fathers of Sociology . Their writing in
the late 19th century reflected revolutionary changes in the modern European society in the wake of
Enlightenment, French revolution, industrial revolution and finally the emergence of capitalist system.
Although, both of them studied the society, its structure and trends, but their methodology and
theoretical approach were different. In the early years of his life, Durkheim was influenced and
impressed by the evolutionary perspective of Herbert Spencer and later, drawing inspiration from the
works of August Comte. Whereas, Weber owed his approach much to the Neo Kantian Philosophy.
Therefore, When Durkheim represented French intellectual sociological ... Show more content on

On one side, Durkheim studied social factor that determines suicide and he drawn that the level of
human interaction in society. For him, sociology was a new scientific discipline that could be
characterised by two of its feature firstly, the study of social facts and secondly, like other social
sciences, it was empirical in study as tries to follow a logical method of data collection. On contrary,
Weber argued that the overall of the social sciences was to develop an interpretative understanding of
social actions . Such sciences were very different from the natural sciences but he was first to discuss
a complex form of Objectivity that social science needed to cultivate while, conducting empathetic
understanding by putting oneself in other shoes with allowing personal bias. This kind of Objectivity
was referred value neutrality by Weber. He also suggested a methodological tool for doing sociology

concept is also epistemological. While for, Durkheim s epistemology, like his ontology, based on
collective subjectivism. Weber also argued that our concepts about the world never truly represent the
world in its totality. Rather, because they are made in our head (from ideas), there is always a
disjuncture between empirical observation and truth. The ideal type acknowledges this

Apocalypse Now Symbolism Essay
According to Tommy Douglas, Man can now fly in the air like a bird, swim under the ocean like a
fish, he can burrow into the ground like a mole. Now if only he could walk the earth like a man, this
would be paradise. The use of birds have been used as different symbols in literature has been
prevalent during our readings, some literature I would like to emphasis on is the film Apocalypse Now
directed by Francis Ford Coppola, The Birds directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Heart of Darkness by
Joseph Conrad, The Birds Daphne du Maurier, the musical art work of Charlie Parker Ornithology.
The use of birds has been present to most of these books and film adaptations, but one film that had a
lot bird like symbols was the film Apocalypse Now. What is the meaning behind this? Well, the reason
why I think they would use helicopters in the film is that it shows how the technologically advance,
the Americans were compared to the savages . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this movie it involves a lot of symbolism that ranges from money to greed. One part of the movie
that shows a great example of this is when Melanie Daniels (portrayed by Tippi Hedren) and Mitch
Brenner (portrayed by Rod Taylor) was in the Davidson s pet store. In the pet store when both Melanie
and Mitch were having a conversation, Mitch asked if it was horrible having all the birds in their
cages. What is the meaning of the cage in The Birds? Well, the film is trying to suggest that people can
be imprisoned by the exclusive nature of love. For example, Melanie mentioned in the conversation
that she lives in a gilded cage. Even though she s an heiress, it can be hard to leave the life one
inherits. Birds are not the only species caged on their well being. Humans are like a caged animal as
well, because we are regimented on when it is time to eat, sleep, or work. In that scene it was not the
birds who are cage, but it was really the human

Gonococcal Infection Paper
gonococcal infection, Oropharyngeal chlamydial disease is less widespread regarding high risk men
having sex with other men. According to Oriel (2012), studies have shown that Lymphogranuloma
venereumproctitis is another clinical manifestation of chlamydia. Lymphogranuloma
venereumproctitis has a wider clinical continuum because it also encompasses a widespread
asymptomatic infection. Laboratory tests comprise the detection of Chlamydia i.e. specific DNA

finding whereby nucleic acid intensification tests are undertaken for confirmation purposes. The

Though the interaction of Chlamydia with the Toll like receptors plays a key role regarding the start of
the pro inflammatory cytokine as well as the production of the chemokine, the cell lysis mode at the
end of the infectious phase is expected to have a great outcome on the response of the host. The paper
also provides numerous signs and symptoms of chlamydia including urgency in urinating,
inflammation of the cervix, mucopurulent cervicitis as well as pain during sexual intercourse. In the
laboratory diagnosis, it is seen that the management of numerous chlamydia infections is on the basis
of syndromic. For instance, the management of the urethritis in men is enhanced by ruling out the
gonorrhea and then treatment of chlamydia if there is a negative smear. Finally, in the Christianity

Ken Kesey s One Flew Over The Cukoos Nest and the Movie
The film version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, produced by Milos Forman, contains many
similarities to the novel, however the differences are numerous to the extent that the story, written by
Ken Kesey, is overlooked by anyone who only saw the film. Ken Kesey wrote the novel, One Flew
Over the Cuckoo s Nest, after experimenting with drugs and working on a psychiatric ward in 1960
and the novel was published in 1962. Kesey became a night attendant on the Menlo Park Veterans

The Niagara Escarpment Ava Is An Ideal Area For Grape Growing
Introduction
The Niagara Escarpment AVA is a relatively new viticulture designated area. The area received the
designation in 2005 and is now one of the fastest growing wine regions in New York State. This AVA
is comprised of a portion of the Niagara Escarpment landform that runs from New York State through
Canada into Wisconsin. (Fig. A) The escarpment has formed over time due to erosion of the rock
layers. The top rock layer, dolomitic limestone, is more weather resistant causing it to erode slower
and creating the escarpment landform. Fig. A
The escarpment is an ideal area for grape growing, as well as other fruits, due to the microclimate
created by the combination of the escarpment and Lake Ontario. Those growing areas that are near the
lake experience weather that is slightly moderated by the presence of the lake waters. Those that are
contained on the escarpment receive a moderated weather pattern due to the escarpments form. The
warm air trapped by the escarpment helps to provide those vineyards with a longer growing season
and protection from harsh winter freezing and spring or fall frost.
The Niagara Wine Trail is currently in a period of growth. In the last few months several new wineries
have been added to the trail and the trail has begun its expansion towards Rochester. Along with this
growth the trail has continued to increase its number of visitors. Along with local customers the trail
also sees many visitors from Canada, Rochester, Finger Lakes area,

The Futility Of Immortality Projects
The Futility of Immortality Projects Since the beginning of civilization, man s attempt to seek
immortality and their various immortality projects has been well documented throughout the course of
history. Whether it is Gilgamesh s quest to seek the plant that grants him immortality or the great
pharaohs of Egypt who built giant structures in their name in the hope that decades after their death,
their names will be remembered. As the pseudonymous England based graffiti artist Banksy once said,
They say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when
somebody says your name for the last time. The line by Banksy had a beautiful, philosophical
sentiment in his message, which was that regardless of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Smuts, A.) By this I mean that our wants and desires, be it small like completing a course
successfully, or to invent a car, because of the amount of time we ve got on our hands, our goals big or
small will be accomplished and that the amount of things left to be accomplished is finite but the time
we have on our hands is infinite and the day will ultimately end in frustration. In the movie The man
from Earth the main character is immortal and has lived since the stone ages and he holds 3 separate
degrees in different time zones. Yet we soon learn that these degrees mean nothing because the topics
he had studies had since expanded as more material has come to light, hence making it impossible to
stay knowledgeable about the field. This is contrary to the popular belief that he who is immortal
would be the most knowledgeable person in the world. Through this we learn that it is not the man
who is good at recalling information who is remembered. But it is the man who is able to think outside
the box (Socrates) and the one with the original ideas who truly gains immortality. History has proven
to us that while it is those who spread their original thoughts and ideas who are remembered through
history. History has also taught us that original thoughts and ideas can be stolen and the original
owners may be forgotten. Famous examples include Nikola Tesla versus Thomas Edison. Faith has

The Theory Of The Second Pulley
For Case 1, in order for equilibrium to be achieved, the fourth pulley was at 259.44 degrees and 35
grams on the hanger. The experimental equilibrant force magnitude, 35 grams, was a little bit higher
than the calculated equilibrant force magnitude, 31.170 grams. The experimental equilibrant force
direction did agree with the calculated equilibrant force direction for this scenario. There was a 12.5%
percent error for Case 1.
For Case 2, the fourth pulley was at 15 degrees and 50 grams on the hanger. The experimental
equilibrant force magnitude, 50 grams, was way higher than the calculated equilibrated force
magnitude, 35.64 grams. Additionally, the calculated equilibrant force direction, 194.99 degrees, did
not agree with the experimental equilibrant force direction, 15 degrees. During the experiment, when
the fourth pulley was put on 194.99 degrees and tested with different grams on the hanger, the ring in
the center of the force table was not able to hold firmly. So, different angles and masses were tested to
achieve equilibrium. After various trial and errors, 15 degrees with 50 grams was the one that was able
to hold the ring firmly in the center. Since the experimental equilibrant force was found through trial
and errors, there was a pretty high percent error of 44.5%.
For Case 3, the fourth pulley was at 275 degrees with 50 grams. . The experimental equilibrant force
magnitude, 50 grams, was higher than the calculated equilibrated force magnitude, 45.28 grams.

Present Day In American Culture
This essay has had a deliberate focus on gnomic, historical quotes in order to emphasise the
importance of the past. In truth, however, so much of history is unrecorded, so many lines of it
unrecorded. Without archaeology, all information on proto historic civilisations would only be from
written accounts, and there would be no information whatsoever on prehistoric civilisations.
Archaeology can even serve to explain modern trends. The present day has been influenced so much
by the past that the two are inextricably linked, and learning about the past can tell so much about the
present today. Equally, so much about the past can be explained using present rituals. Some Native
Americans have traditions that can be traced back thousands of years

Persuasive Essay About Monuments
Monuments take a lot of planning to be done. An agency or group should consider these factors for
memorializing an event or person and creating a memorial to the past. Its size, location, materials, and
what it represents in the town s history or history at all, how it makes people feel , and is it good or
bad part of our history . All those factors should be taken in perspective in the decision. Monuments
should show history of the place it was built. But Savannah is rich in history and should be

The Sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic
On April 14th April 15th the R.M.S. Titanic struck a 2,000 ton iceberg off the coast of Newfoundland
in the North Atlantic Ocean. There are many questionable reasons to as why the Titanic sank, but there
are always the basic ideas. Scientists have theories, but not everything has become proven facts except
that the ship did hit an iceberg. The R.M.S. Titanic was affected by weather, design of the ship, or
even simple human mistakes. Some speculation about the weather has existed ever since the R.M.S.
Titanic has sunk. Some believe it was tides, temperature, or even mirages across the ocean, but let s
dig a bit deeper and find what makes these conclusions become reasonable explanations. On January
4, 1912, three months before the Titanic set sail, a solar eclipse occurred. The moon came closer than
it has ever been to Earth in 1,400 years, and Earth made its annual close distance to the sun. The last
time this had ever happened was in 796 A.D., and the next time this will occur is the year 2257. When
this eclipse happened, it made the tides change in drastic measures. On the banks of Greenland floated
a 2,000 ton iceberg. Due to the tide changes, this 2,000 ton iceberg split in half, resulting in a 1,000
ton iceberg that gets sent off southward. Coincidentally, the iceberg ends up off the coast of
Newfoundland in about 3 months. Usual travel time for icebergs that far is 5+ months. Where this
iceberg ends up, is right in the Titanic s path on April 14th. Was this fate, or

In Death of a Salesman and Oedipus Rex, pride plays an integral part to the development of the plot.
In each play, the hamartia for both Willy and Oedipus is pride, along with other minor things. Willy s
and Oedipus sense of self worth seems to come from their pride, however misguided it may seem.
Pride is the hamarita which connects Willy and Oedipus, in which case pride causes them to live in
their past and prevents them from seeing the present, resulting in their tragic ending. For Oedipus,
pride causes him to search for the truth in his hidden past, inadvertently causing him to be the

Even though he is given the truth about his past, he is unwilling to hear it because of his pride. Here,
Oedipus is given the chance to stop and turn back this quest, because in the end the murderer he must
face in the end is himself. Instead, he begins to have self doubts about himself, which damages his
pride, and continues on his journey into his past to restore his hurt pride. His pride forces him not to
believe the truth, and so it leads toward his own undoing. Oedipus pride pushes him forward, shedding
some light on the grim truths of his dark past. Finally, when faced with his wife Jocasta, she begs him
not to continue with this mad quest, knowing that there will be nothing good for them in the end.
Jocasta states For God s love, let us have no more questioning! Is your life nothing to you? My own
pain is enough to bear (Sophocles 1003 1005), realizing that Oedipus may be the murderer of her
husband Laius and that the prophecy that the oracle said many years ago may finally come to light and
be true. Oedipus however refuses to listen to her insistent pleas, and so gives up the last chance for
him to turn back. Oedipus could have easily stopped here and listened to Jocasta but as Arthur Miller

Analysis Of The Text Lady Audley s Secret
Explication Essay
In the text Lady Audley s secret (1862) , written by M. E. Braddon, there are many literary devices
that came together to create a unique experience for the reader. The sentences in this text are purposely
disconnected into eight lines. When reading a text that has sentences that are connected and flow
fluently, it can be heard to determine key ideas. The text breaks up sentences so that key ideas are
easily highlighted and specific words are emphasized. Within the eight lines, the author uses a unique
sequence of events. The author begins the text by mentioning Talboys, and what he had done to Lady
Audley. However, the author refrains from immediately saying who Talboys was in relation to her.
Next the author explained, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this line of the text the author also uses the word thud . The word thud is an onomatopoeia, meaning
it is spelled the way it sounds as its action is taking place. This enhanced the ability to imagine the
sound of the fall. Another instance where imagery is used is when the author uses detailed adjectives
to illustrate the size and appearance of the well.
Throughout the text the author uses the mouth of the well and the cry of Talboys as defining aspects of
his death. Both are presented in multiple places in the text. Braddon used the mouth of the well in the
fifth line when Audley initially attacked Talboys and in the eighth line when Talboys was confirmed to
be dead. The cry of Talboys was used in the fifth and the seventh lines of the text. Both the mouth of
the well and the cry mark the beginning of Talboys attack and the confirmation of his death. The one
cry by Talboys also confirmed that his death happened instantly.
Characterization plays a major role in the impact of the text. The main character Audley is depicted as
an evil woman who killed her first husband without remorse and who threatens her new husband.
Audley threatens her husband by explaining to him what she has done to ex husband, who happened
the treated her as he is now treating her. In other words she implied that he can possibly end up like
her ex husband, if he does not change the way he

Stereotypes Of Big Bang Theory
Throughout the entirety of gaming, people tend to view the hobby as childish and sexist. To many
people, they see the median as a means to suck the life out of people, reverting them into a childish,
racist, sexist manbaby. This stereotype is entirely false, as many gamers tend to be men/women with
family, a job, and maybe some kids. Many gamers also tend to be quite social, with them usually
having many friends outside of the gaming sphere. It has also been shown to be quite useful with
education, with Role Playing Games requiring the player to get good at math and statistics in order to

Quotes From Birmingham Jail Quote Analysis
Kindness is the Key ...it is wrong to use immoral means to attain moral ends , what does this quote
mean? Also, what does the quote it is just as wrong, or perhaps even more so, to use moral means to
preserve immoral ends mean? Martin Luther King Jr, a leader of the African American Civil Rights

of desegregation. He also described moral means to keep immoral ends as the police officers who
have exercised a degree of discipline while handling the protesters, but they are still fighting for the

problems occurring during that time, today, world issues have changed, and his quote can be

illustrated by the names of the beasts. The writer used this kind of language because unlike today,
English continues to wither as expression like that in the poem become more scarcely. The theme of
the poem is good versus evil. The jabberwocky s theme comes out when our brave little warrior meets
with this mythical creature. In essence, the jabberwocky represents a bigger evil because it does not
exist. In connection to our day, the biggest evil man faces are he. The same way a kingdom challenges

Essay on Atticus Finch
It is widely believed that Atticus Finch is one of the greatest heroes of modern literature. My opinion
varies greatly with this remark. Atticus Finch is not a hero because he only had greater morals than the
people of his time, he wanted to be a good role model for his children, and was only doing his job as a
lawyer. It was his responsibility to defend Tom Robinson and give him an honest trial. He may have

Many everyday heroes such as firefighters and doctors save lives everyday. It is their job to save the

necessary for his cause to put himself in danger, he only wanted to protect Tom, which someone else
could have done. It was not his job to protect Tom, only to represent him. Atticus may have taken the
case because of Scout and Jem. He wanted to be a good role model for his children so they would look
up to him and follow in his footsteps. He wanted to set a good example for Scout and Jem and teach
them to stand up for what is right. He wanted his children to go against racial prejudice and follow
what they believe. You can prove this because in the book, Atticus tells Scout to view everybody as
equals. He even has Walter Cunningham over for dinner so he can prove this. He believes that
everybody should properly represented. Talmage Boston states in his selection of the Texas bar journal

How Does Fusion Affect The Creation Of A Star
Way out there in space, there are huge clouds of dust and gas and if one of those clouds of dust and
gas is massive enough it s own gravity can causes it to start to collapse. When it collapses, it folds
itself towards the center of the cloud, then it get denser and denser and hotter and hotter; eventually
the particles of that gas and the dust are made up and brought so close together that they start to stick
together. Then they start to fuse, thats the energy source of a star. The star switches and begins to
shine. Inside every newborn star, hydrogen atoms are fused together to make helium. This process is
called fusion and it creates the energy of every star. A star is a luminous sphere of gas producing its
own heat and light by nuclear reactions (nuclear fusion).

On the Entrapment and Incarceration of the Victorian...
Thomas Blackburn describes the two Victorian poets, Robert Browning and Alfred, Lord Tennyson as
being great contemporaries (47). As such it is apt that their works should muse upon and explore
similar topics and themes. Their connection is especially evident in Browning s My Last Duchess and
Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott . The themes of entrapment and incarceration feature heavily in both
of these works. Specifically, it is the entrapment and incarceration of women which pervade their
respective compositions. When taking into consideration the way in which women were viewed at this
juncture in history being nothing more than beautiful objects (Gilbert and Gubar 54), it is quite easy to
see how the literary representations of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bound to the Duke and has become imprisoned within his art collection as nothing more than a
possession. The Duke exemplifies this view when he makes reference to another piece of his art
collection, as if the current and previous subjects of his monologue were completely analogous,

the Duchess is allocated no space to give her side of the story, through the Duke s depiction the reader
can infer that she was killed for having her own free will and as such there is zero doubt that she is a
victim of imprisonment of the Duke s egocentric ideals. While he puts an adulterous spin on her

The Hypocrisy Of American Slavery By Fredrick Douglass
People have been beaten down, spat upon, imprisoned, enslaved, and even killed for their beliefs, race,
ethnicity, gender, and other characteristics throughout history. Throughout much of American history,
African Americans have been the victims of countless injustices and have been thought of as less than
human by society. Many people opposed society s view of African Americans and stood up for their
rights. Those who stood up for the rights of slaves and African Americans tried their best to persuade
the public that their treatment of these people was cruel and an injustice to humanity. This is evident in

arguments validity and persuade their audience that injustices against slaves and African Americans
should be stopped and they should be treated equally. In addition to ethos, Fredrick Douglass and
Lyndon B. Johnson appeal to their audience s emotions to persuade them of their points using pathos.
Pathos is a persuasive technique in which a speaker uses language that appeals to their audience s

The Prime Components Of Filial Piety
One of the prime virtues of the Confucianism philosophy is filial piety, which consists of the respect,
obedience and care for one s parents and this is then extended to other elders. Filial piety, denoted by
the Chinese character 孝 (pinyin: xiào) can be divided into two parts: the upper part (老, pinyin: lǎo)
and the lower part (子, pinyin: zi), which mean old and son respectively. The position of the
components itself depicts the meaning of filial piety, which is the young oppressed by the older
generation (Teon, 2016). In Mainland China, on a five point scale, the perception on filial expectations
and obligations ranged from 3.18 4.86 (Dong, 2016). This indicates that filial piety is still commonly
practiced and endorsed in the Chinese communities, shaping parent child relationships. Although
honoring your parents may be a common theme across cultures, filial piety in the Confucianism
philosophy goes much beyond that. Many may argue that the ideal is too extreme. Confucius says in
Analects 4.18, When serving your father and mother, remonstrate gently, if they do not accept your
criticism, remain respectful, do not act against their wishes, and follow their lead without resentment
(Rainey, 2010). The amount of unconditional obedience in filial piety towards elders can be illustrated
in the previous much quoted statement. It highlights the importance of following the elderly in spite of
what is right. The extent of the unconditional obedience in filial piety is

accomplishment allowed the album to be considered as one of the most successful debuts ever

2000s, Linkin Park not only received over sixty awards, but they also were nominated for a hundred
and sixty nine more (Leahey). It should also be taken into consideration that the statistics listed below
only refer to one of five albums. Some bands don t even reach Linkin Park s status of worth after their
first album when compared to their entire career. The amount of years that a band has been together
does not necessarily mean they are better or the best. For example, some of the bands that did not even
come close to making the list have never even won a Grammy let alone been nominated for one.
Although many people have their own opinion as to what a good band entails, based upon the criteria

Analysis Of Dante s The Inferno
Journeys can be taken many ways. Some people take the path less traveled and some people take the
easy way out. Dante happens to be on journey that is less traveled, by exploring the depths of Hell in
the Inferno. The epic poem s story is about self realization and transformation. It sees Dante over
coming many things to realize he is a completely different person from the start of the Inferno journey.
Dante sees many things that help him gain courage in order to prove to himself and the reader that
accepting change and gaining courage can help one to grow as a person and realize their full potential.
After seeing people going through certain punishment Dante realizes that he must not seek pity on
himself and others in order to fully realize his true potential. Dante has experienced many different
things while exploring the Inferno that help him realize his full potential and his true self. The biggest
change Dante made was the amount of courage he had while going through the Inferno. This can be
seen through the way he acts throughout the book. This is shown when Dante in the beginning of the
Inferno faints due to fear. While in the first circle of Hell after entering the gates of Hell Dante faints
after seeing [a] whirl burst out of the tear drenched earth, a wind that crackled with bloodred light
(III;133). If Dante was more courageous by this point in his journey Dante wouldn t have fainted.

Mary Oliver Twist Essay
Introduction
Prostitution looms large in the Victorian consciousness. The image of the fallen woman reflects the
Victorian upper classes ideas about sexuality, gender and class. The prostitute is a staple of 19th
century fiction. Debate about prostitution is also a reflection of cultural anxiety about urbanization.
Victorian ideas about fallenness create the ideological assumptions behind the creation of the
Contagious Diseases Acts. Through the control of sexuality, the Acts reinforced existing patterns of
class and gender domination. They reflected an acceptance of male sexual license. The double
standard allowed male access to fallen women and punished only the women.
Fallenness as Literary Motif

Cultural beliefs about the fallen woman necessitated that she be victim of a sacrificial death. While her
death may have seemed shocking to us, there is no other way that Dickens could have told her story.
Nancy is lost beyond redemption and although she had a heart of gold, her fallenness necessitates her
death. To have redeemed her would have justified prostitution, or at least acknowledged the fact that it
could be a temporary state, and not the road to ruin and a horrible and lonely death.
Oliver s mother is also a fallen woman who meets a sacrificial death although her heart is apparently
good. Her entire family is also consequently ruined. This reads as particularly tragic since she was not
seduced by a rake, but by someone who intended to marry her. No matter; she also had to be sacrificed
to fallenness, along with her entire family. It is a cautionary tale.
There are two examples of fallenness in Mary Barton. One is Mary Barton herself, who is seduced by
dreams of improving her social status via the upper class Carson. Her lust for wealth leaves her at the
mercy of this rake, who has no intention of marrying her anyway.
The true fallen woman is Mary s aunt Esther. She is destined for the street by her love of clothing,
finery, and her class aspirations. When John Barton encounters her on the street again she is the
epitome of the streetwalker, bereft of dignity, morality, and the possibility of salvation.

GERMAN ROMANTICISM
Romanticism. Romanticism is characterized by its impressive expressiveness in harmonic and
thematic process with an increasing weight of chromatic and dissonant elements. There is a new
tendency to give a particular importance to timber, texture and rhythm. Like the Renaissance after the
Middle Ages, Romantic composers want to express the new found independence of the humanity that
is no longer under the constraining influence of the strict model that classical composers follow. Some
Romantic compositions express a powerful individualism while others express the beauties and terrors
of nature, but the most common theme is nationalism.
Germany. German Romanticism is mainly represented by music rather than other forms of art because
Germany is a country very rich in musical history. The three B s of the greatest composers, Bach,
Beethoven, and Brahms, are all German. Although Bruch, whose name also begins with a B, is not as
famous as them, his Violin Concerto No. 1, which follows the Romantic aesthetics, is certainly an
extremely renowned piece in the violin repertoire.

Humanity s faith in God reeled when after years of creation going uncontested Sir Charles Darwin
introduced his theory about the origins of species and evolution. From this two groups emerged;
evolutionists, who believe that modern day life forms evolved from smaller and more primitive
organisms, and creationists, who continued to believe that everything was created by a higher power.
Each side produced credible arguments, but at the same time, the counter arguments where just as

Most Cosmologists believe that the universe began about thirteen point seven billion years ago, in an
event called the big bang. Theoretical physicist, Nobel laureate in physics, and atheist Steven
Weinberg describes the beginning of the universe; in the beginning there was an explosion, within
three minutes ninety eight percent of the matter that was or ever would be was created. (Weinberg) For

History Of Musical History, And Music Theory Of South Africa

January 6, 2015
South Africa This paper is going to talk about the history, musical history, and music theory of South
Africa. The country is populated with 52.98 million people and the main religion is Christian. The
country of South Africa is located on the southern most tip of the continent of Africa and covers 4% of
the total landmass. It is bordered by Mozambique, Namibia, and Botswana. It is a very biodiverse
country because of the Atlantic ocean flanking one side, and the mountain range on the other side.
History
The country of South Africa has a very complicated and unfortunate history, that lead to a widespread
relief when the struggle was over. The Dutch colonized South Africa in 1652, which lead to
controversy when diamonds were discovered shortly after. Holland was getting a larger portion of the
diamonds being distributed and the people of South Africa were displeased. When Britain found out,
they wanted to join in as well. This led to a long feud, and eventually sparked the Boer War in 1899,
which last until 1902. Britain won and ultimately gained control over South Africa until 1910, when
the Africans didn t agree with Britain s attempt to anglicize their culture. In 1918, one of the countries
greatest leaders, Nelson Mandela was born. He would later go on to become one of the most

The greatest art in films is by the means of the ability to create an emotion in the viewers of the film

Among the visual techniques employed in these films is the lighting. Even though it is a pathetic
fallacy, the lighting atmosphere is very bright and colorful in the film. The Birds is set in many scenes
to reflect the characters behaviors in the scenes (Maher 248). Again, towards the end of the bright
lighting, a dark color is presented to create an eerie atmosphere. For instance, an excellent use of
lighting is offered in the dead farmer s scene. Here, lighting symbolizes the mood in the scene. It starts
with Lydia trekking down in a very bright sunlight, the light dims as she approaches the door. Inside
the house, there is a window with natural light although no false in the house. Even so, the absence of
light suggests a bad situation, which the audience is left to figure out. The director uses this to create
unease with the observer.
The use of lighting in today s cinematography has great impacts on the intended audience. The main
characters in modern movies are usually directed in key lights. Generally, the lights on these key
objects are brighter than the fill light and the backlight. Light is targeted to give clarity of the image,
to quest for better realism and to create an atmosphere of emotions (Cohen 127). Lightings, in
particular, are fundamental tools in manipulating the audiences response to narrative events and
characters.
The use of camera narration is another Hitchcockian technique that heightens the level of suspense in

Medical Practice Initiative. One of the main drivers of the Medical Practice Initiative (MPI), aside
from patient safety, is the acquisition, maintenance, and minimization of cognitive and psychomotor

oppression. In Breath, Eyes, Memory, Danticat explores Postcolonial Feminism by analyzing feminist
issues that arise outside of Western culture, which are often overlooked in Western society. Sylvia
Plath s The Bell Jar includes aspects of Liberal Feminism, which focuses on women s political,
professional, and intellectual equality to men. Each of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Women no longer have the ability to hold public office, own property, have their own bank accounts,
work outside the home, or even view text. A totalitarian theocracy, Gilead holds wives under the
complete control of their husbands and handmaidens or concubines under the control of their
Commanders, so much so that the handmaidens are renamed to reflect their individual Commanders
names. The story s narrator and protagonist, Offred literally Of Fred allows us to view this new
society through the eyes of a handmaiden, whose sole purpose is to produce offspring in a world

The Ocean s Timeline
Before there were good ships, many of the people who were on voyages died on the ocean. Our high
tech ships of today aren t able to withstand its crushing power. It is one of most powerful natural
features on earth. The ocean has many interesting characteristics. Below the water is like another
world. We call these features the ocean profile. The ocean s coastline also has many interesting
qualities. The ocean profile is like the underwater geography of the ocean. The eight main features are
the shoreline, continental shelf, continental slope, trench, Guyot, abyssal plain, ridges, and the rift.
The edge of the ocean where it meets the land is called the shoreline. The part of the continental land
that is underwater is called the continental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sea cliffs, beaches, river valleys, bays, sandbars, sea stacks, and sea arches are examples of coastline
features. Sea cliffs are high walls of rock. They are formed when erosion from the waves takes place
on a raised piece of land forming a sharp drop off in the land. Beaches are the portion of land that is
the area between low and high tide. Many beaches are made of millions of tiny quartz particles called
sand. River valleys is a stream that erodes itself into the land forming a valley. River valleys are an
important source of sediments going to the sea. A bay is a broad inlet of the sea where a sandbar partly
encloses it from the sea. A sandbar is a thin piece of land which curves toward the land usually
enclosing a bay. Sometimes sandbars are made of sediments carried by the waves. Sea stacks are tall
narrow rocks along the seacoast. Sometimes sea cliffs can be eroded by waves into a large arch made
of rock. Like the ocean itself, the coastline is full of beautiful qualities. The ocean profile is full of
features like underwater mountains, cliffs, valleys, volcanoes, and plains. The coastline, which is a
feature of the ocean profile, is full of beauty and variety. Erosion helps in the formation of both ocean
profile and the coastline. Without erosion they would not

Key Elements For The Basel IIi Capital Adequacy Framework
1. Introduction
In the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007 2009, the Basel Committee of Banking Supervision
launched a program that substantially revised the existing capital adequacy guidelines. As a result, the
Committee released a new version of bank capital and liquidity standards, referred to as Basel III , in
December 2010. Subsequent guidance was issued in January 2011 regarding minimum requirements
for regulatory capital instruments. The G20 , including United States and the European Union,
publicly endorsed the Basel III standards at their November 2010 Summit in Seoul, and relevant
countries around the world have made efforts to study its impacts on their banking industry and to find
the best ways to implement them into law in their respective jurisdictions. There have been numerous
worldwide debates and discussions since its introduction. However, the core principle of more
stringent capital requirement has not been changed and it is now unavoidable for impacted financial
institutions to comply with the new standards. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the key
elements for the Basel III capital adequacy framework and discuss its practical implications on the
financial industry.
2. Background of Basel Committee and Its Accords
The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) was originated from the collapse of the
Bretton Woods system in 1973 that was followed by the financial market turmoil. The failure of
Bretton Woods caused large foreign

Alzheimer s is like. The waves erase the marks we leave behind, all the sand castles ( Alzheimer
Quotes. ). Famous head coach of the University of Tennessee s women basketball team, Pat Summitt,
said this after revealing she had Early Onset Alzheimer s Disease. Alzheimer s disease affects the

M1 Assess how the social context may influence the ability of health campaigns to change behaviour
in relations to health
Health education takes place within the context of social and economic settings. All programmes for
health related behaviour change have a cost in term of resources, money, time or social and economic
factors. In this report I will be talking about Jamie Oliver approach the strength and weakness of his
healthy eating approach. For example Jamie Oliver strives to improve unhealthy diets and poor
cooking habits in the United Kingdom and the United States but the government spend a lot of money
to campaign his idea and to promote healthier school meals.
There is many strength of Jamie Oliver approach. One strength is ... Show more content on

I think women have been let down by the government for 40 years. Because 30 years ago, 12 per cent
worked and now 60 per cent do. They re taxed just like men; they have a lot more trouble getting to
the top still. And in actual fact, the one thing the government didn t promise women when they went to
work in volume was that their child would be taught how to cook and get fed properly at school. And
that s what I ve been fighting for, largely for women, for the last ten years. He added he believed
politicians should do more to ensure children are fed properly during the day in working women
absence.
Financial constraints can be on individual and organisation. For individual there may be change of
behaviour due to financial constraints. When changing your family lifestyle for a better lifestyle such
as buying healthier food it requires more money and organic ingredients which is more expensive. The
limitation of financial constraints on government is it cost lot of money to run the campaign. Also they
may not save money as not everyone has school meals and they don t know if the campaign works as
some children may not have school dinners.
Financial constraints can also affect the culture on people as people have different culture and may
require special dietary need. For example Muslim people need to have halal food so healthier menu
need to reach people personal need. Changing their lifestyle might not meet their need so the healthy

  • 3. Fice Of First Lady The office, President of the United States of America, is one, if not, the most powerful position in the modern world that any individual can occupy. However, there is another office in the same building and even the same family that garners much less attention: the office of First Lady. For the lack of attention both in historical records, and in public focus, First Ladies throughout the history of the United States have had much more influence and impact than they have been accredited. One such woman, Lucretia Garfield began, in her short term, to change the office of First Lady. Lucretia Garfield challenged the gender normatives of the Gilded Age, and she opened up her role for future First Ladies to exert their bold presence in the White House. Lucretia began her safari into the world of men at a young age, beginning with her education. From the moment she was born, on April 19, 1832 in Garretsville Ohio to parents Zebulon and Arabella Rudolph, Lucretia lived an atypical lifestyle. The Rudolph family, devout Disciples of Christ Church members, engaged with other church members to build the Western Reserve Eclectic Institution in Hiram College. According to, Notable American Women: A Biographical Dictionary, Lucretia Rudolph entered Western Reserve Eclectic Institute in the year 1850 after completing previous studies at Geauga Seminary in Chester Ohio. Now if only he could walk the earth like a man, this would be paradise. The use of birds have been used as different symbols in literature has been prevalent during our readings, some literature I would like to emphasis on is the film Apocalypse Now directed by Francis Ford Coppola, The Birds directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, The Birds Daphne du Maurier, the musical art work of Charlie Parker Ornithology. The use of birds has been present to most of these books and film adaptations, but one film that had a lot bird like symbols was the film Apocalypse Now. What is the meaning behind this? One part of the movie that shows a great example of this is when Melanie Daniels (portrayed by Tippi Hedren) and Mitch Brenner (portrayed by Rod Taylor) was in the Davidson s pet store. In the pet store when both Melanie and Mitch were having a conversation, Mitch asked if it was horrible having all the birds in their cages. What is the meaning of the cage in The Birds? Well, the film is trying to suggest that people can be imprisoned by the exclusive nature of love. For example, Melanie mentioned in the conversation that she lives in a gilded cage. Even though she s an heiress, it can be hard to leave the life one inherits. Birds are not the only species caged on their well being. Humans are like a caged animal as well, because we are regimented on when it is time to eat, sleep, or work. In that scene it was not the birds who are cage, but it was really the human ... • 9. The Niagara Escarpment Ava Is An Ideal Area For Grape Growing Introduction The Niagara Escarpment AVA is a relatively new viticulture designated area. The area received the designation in 2005 and is now one of the fastest growing wine regions in New York State. This AVA is comprised of a portion of the Niagara Escarpment landform that runs from New York State through Canada into Wisconsin. (Fig. A) The escarpment has formed over time due to erosion of the rock layers. The top rock layer, dolomitic limestone, is more weather resistant causing it to erode slower and creating the escarpment landform. Fig. A The escarpment is an ideal area for grape growing, as well as other fruits, due to the microclimate created by the combination of the escarpment and Lake Ontario. Those growing areas that are near the lake experience weather that is slightly moderated by the presence of the lake waters. Those that are contained on the escarpment receive a moderated weather pattern due to the escarpments form. The warm air trapped by the escarpment helps to provide those vineyards with a longer growing season and protection from harsh winter freezing and spring or fall frost. The Niagara Wine Trail is currently in a period of growth. In the last few months several new wineries have been added to the trail and the trail has begun its expansion towards Rochester. In the movie The man from Earth the main character is immortal and has lived since the stone ages and he holds 3 separate degrees in different time zones. Yet we soon learn that these degrees mean nothing because the topics he had studies had since expanded as more material has come to light, hence making it impossible to stay knowledgeable about the field. This is contrary to the popular belief that he who is immortal would be the most knowledgeable person in the world. Through this we learn that it is not the man who is good at recalling information who is remembered. But it is the man who is able to think outside the box (Socrates) and the one with the original ideas who truly gains immortality. The experimental equilibrant force magnitude, 35 grams, was a little bit higher than the calculated equilibrant force magnitude, 31.170 grams. The experimental equilibrant force direction did agree with the calculated equilibrant force direction for this scenario. There was a 12.5% percent error for Case 1. For Case 2, the fourth pulley was at 15 degrees and 50 grams on the hanger. The experimental equilibrant force magnitude, 50 grams, was way higher than the calculated equilibrated force magnitude, 35.64 grams. Additionally, the calculated equilibrant force direction, 194.99 degrees, did not agree with the experimental equilibrant force direction, 15 degrees. During the experiment, when the fourth pulley was put on 194.99 degrees and tested with different grams on the hanger, the ring in the center of the force table was not able to hold firmly. So, different angles and masses were tested to achieve equilibrium. After various trial and errors, 15 degrees with 50 grams was the one that was able to hold the ring firmly in the center. There are many questionable reasons to as why the Titanic sank, but there are always the basic ideas. Scientists have theories, but not everything has become proven facts except that the ship did hit an iceberg. The R.M.S. Titanic was affected by weather, design of the ship, or even simple human mistakes. Some speculation about the weather has existed ever since the R.M.S. Titanic has sunk. Some believe it was tides, temperature, or even mirages across the ocean, but let s dig a bit deeper and find what makes these conclusions become reasonable explanations. On January 4, 1912, three months before the Titanic set sail, a solar eclipse occurred. The moon came closer than it has ever been to Earth in 1,400 years, and Earth made its annual close distance to the sun. The last time this had ever happened was in 796 A.D., and the next time this will occur is the year 2257. When this eclipse happened, it made the tides change in drastic measures. On the banks of Greenland floated a 2,000 ton iceberg. Due to the tide changes, this 2,000 ton iceberg split in half, resulting in a 1,000 ton iceberg that gets sent off southward. Coincidentally, the iceberg ends up off the coast of Newfoundland in about 3 months. Usual travel time for icebergs that far is 5+ months. When reading a text that has sentences that are connected and flow fluently, it can be heard to determine key ideas. The text breaks up sentences so that key ideas are easily highlighted and specific words are emphasized. Within the eight lines, the author uses a unique sequence of events. Throughout the text the author uses the mouth of the well and the cry of Talboys as defining aspects of his death. Both are presented in multiple places in the text. Braddon used the mouth of the well in the fifth line when Audley initially attacked Talboys and in the eighth line when Talboys was confirmed to be dead. He didn t even need to put himself in danger. It was not necessary for his cause to put himself in danger, he only wanted to protect Tom, which someone else could have done. It was not his job to protect Tom, only to represent him. Atticus may have taken the case because of Scout and Jem. He wanted to be a good role model for his children so they would look up to him and follow in his footsteps. He wanted to set a good example for Scout and Jem and teach them to stand up for what is right. He wanted his children to go against racial prejudice and follow what they believe. You can prove this because in the book, Atticus tells Scout to view everybody as equals. He even has Walter Cunningham over for dinner so he can prove this. He believes that everybody should properly represented. How Does Fusion Affect The Creation Of A Star Way out there in space, there are huge clouds of dust and gas and if one of those clouds of dust and gas is massive enough it s own gravity can causes it to start to collapse. When it collapses, it folds itself towards the center of the cloud, then it get denser and denser and hotter and hotter; eventually the particles of that gas and the dust are made up and brought so close together that they start to stick together. Then they start to fuse, thats the energy source of a star. The star switches and begins to shine. Inside every newborn star, hydrogen atoms are fused together to make helium. As such it is apt that their works should muse upon and explore similar topics and themes. Their connection is especially evident in Browning s My Last Duchess and Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott . The themes of entrapment and incarceration feature heavily in both of these works. Specifically, it is the entrapment and incarceration of women which pervade their respective compositions. When taking into consideration the way in which women were viewed at this juncture in history being nothing more than beautiful objects (Gilbert and Gubar 54), it is quite easy to see how the literary representations of the ... The Prime Components Of Filial Piety One of the prime virtues of the Confucianism philosophy is filial piety, which consists of the respect, obedience and care for one s parents and this is then extended to other elders. Filial piety, denoted by the Chinese character 孝 (pinyin: xiào) can be divided into two parts: the upper part (老, pinyin: lǎo) and the lower part (子, pinyin: zi), which mean old and son respectively. The position of the components itself depicts the meaning of filial piety, which is the young oppressed by the older generation (Teon, 2016). In Mainland China, on a five point scale, the perception on filial expectations and obligations ranged from 3.18 4.86 (Dong, 2016). This indicates that filial piety is still commonly practiced and endorsed in the Chinese communities, shaping parent child relationships. Although honoring your parents may be a common theme across cultures, filial piety in the Confucianism philosophy goes much beyond that. Many may argue that the ideal is too extreme. Confucius says in Analects 4.18, When serving your father and mother, remonstrate gently, if they do not accept your criticism, remain respectful, do not act against their wishes, and follow their lead without resentment (Rainey, 2010). The image of the fallen woman reflects the Victorian upper classes ideas about sexuality, gender and class. The prostitute is a staple of 19th century fiction. Debate about prostitution is also a reflection of cultural anxiety about urbanization. Victorian ideas about fallenness create the ideological assumptions behind the creation of the Contagious Diseases Acts. Cultural beliefs about the fallen woman necessitated that she be victim of a sacrificial death. While her death may have seemed shocking to us, there is no other way that Dickens could have told her story. Nancy is lost beyond redemption and although she had a heart of gold, her fallenness necessitates her death. To have redeemed her would have justified prostitution, or at least acknowledged the fact that it could be a temporary state, and not the road to ruin and a horrible and lonely death. Oliver s mother is also a fallen woman who meets a sacrificial death although her heart is apparently good. Her entire family is also consequently ruined. This reads as particularly tragic since she was not seduced by a rake, but by someone who intended to marry her. No matter; she also had to be sacrificed to fallenness, along with her entire family. It is a cautionary tale. There are two examples of fallenness in Mary Barton. One is Mary Barton herself, who is seduced by dreams of improving her social status via the upper class Carson. Her lust for wealth leaves her at the mercy of this rake, who has no intention of marrying her anyway. The true fallen woman is Mary s aunt Esther. River valleys are an important source of sediments going to the sea. A bay is a broad inlet of the sea where a sandbar partly encloses it from the sea. A sandbar is a thin piece of land which curves toward the land usually enclosing a bay. Sometimes sandbars are made of sediments carried by the waves. And in actual fact, the one thing the government didn t promise women when they went to work in volume was that their child would be taught how to cook and get fed properly at school. And that s what I ve been fighting for, largely for women, for the last ten years. For individual there may be change of behaviour due to financial constraints. When changing your family lifestyle for a better lifestyle such as buying healthier food it requires more money and organic ingredients which is more expensive.
