there is more of an emphasis
on planning, functional
design and the
effective use of space.

4. MERIDIAN
A design company based
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This company was set up in
year 2000 by Mr. Lim
Chee Hong. They start
off with just doing
customized kitchen cabinets,
and now they have
diversified to include all
areas of renovation for
residences including
bedroom wardrobe, living
hall design, customized
cabinet, interior design&
home renovation.
They won the
‘Nationwide Best
Performance
Branch Award’
for the financial year
ended June 2011.

5. Talking about the company, Ms
Lola is the manager that
incharging an general things
awhile Mr Lim Chee Hoong is
the manager that incharge in the
biz development. The company
structure are categorized to four
department, which are accounts,
sales, design and civil works.
The head of accounts is Mr. Afif
and Kousalyah is the assistant
of Mr Afif. For sales department,
there separate to 2 team which
are Saturday team manage by
Ms Diyana and
Sunday team manage by Ms
Aliaa and lead by Ms Elishia. As
for design department, there are
3 designer which are Zatie,
Esther and lead by a senior
designer, Ms. Jamie.
Lastly, there are 3 supervisor
name, Deni, Ilham and Ricky
work under civil works
department. Due to absent of a
head, Mr Lim Chee Hoong act
as a temporary project manager
at this department.

Your background.
A I graduated from UITM. I did my
diploma and bachelor degree in Interior
Architecture there.
Q What’s your experience before
you join Meridian ?
A Before I join Meridian, I work with
a design and built company. After I
did my degree, I join here.
Q Which year did you graduated?
A I graduated my bachelor degree
In 2009.
Q What is the difference between
Interior Design and Architecture ?
A Diploma we call it interior
design but when you graduate, it’s
more to interior architecture
because you handle bigger scope of
proposals especially in degree.

7. Roles and
Responsibilities
In the first meeting, Ms.Nur
Diyana meets with client who
usually prepares the floor plans
in the showroom. She then
discusses with the client about
their idea of renovation or interior
design after which, she sketches
the type of renovation that client
requested and pass it to interior
design department to prepare a
more detailed drawing (floor
plans, 3D rendering, detailed
drawings of all furniture etc.).
She then decides which drawing
is the most suitable as per the
client’s request. In the second
meeting prepares the cost of the
project and quote the client for
their approval, The Sales
designer proposes the new
space planning or furniture layout
and mood boards or concept
board. Ms. Nur Diyana’s
responsibility plays a major role
in the process of designing as
she understands the clients
requirement and how they want
their interior space to be
designed.

8. The main goals of the
interior design for this project
were to renovate the given
space, Mr. Lawrence, the
clients preference was more
for a modern , with bold
colors yet a simple homey
feeling.
The work scope of this project
included, remodeling of the
existing toilets, new plaster
ceilings, new floorings, paint
works, electrical works, build-
in cabinets (tv panels
wardrobes, partitions, deco
walls) and kitchen cabinets.

Design stages
The design stages undergone
by the designers include the
followings. The client meets
with Ms.Diana, the sales
manager and designer in the
showroom with their floor
plans and
preference design images and
some pictures of their dream
homes for the designers to
understand the concept the
client likes. The next step is
to prepare a clear budget
separating items they don’t
sell like sofas, lights, and
curtains. The budget for this
project was 150k.

The design stages
undergone by Miss Diana
include the followings. The
client meets with her in the
showroom with their floor
plans and preference design
images and some pictures
of their dream homes for the
designers to understand the
concept the client likes.
The work scope of this
project included, remodeling
of the plaster ceilings, new
floorings, paint works,
kitchen cabinets and kitchen
counters The outcome of
this project, the kitchen
cabinets are designed
withpristine white,
matte- lacquered panels
that creates and illusion of a
larger space within the
kitchen, careful consideration
has been put in place to avoid
disrupting the clean surfaces
of this kitchen by eschewing
handles instead this is
replaced by barely noticeable
horizontal recessed grips in
t h e s a m e sn o wy t o n e .
This was a smaller project
than the first with a budget of
50k. The laminate finish of
this kitchen is inspired by the
wenge – wood the material
contrasts beautifully when
accented with white recessed
grips intentionally use to
create a handless look
