Gender Based Combat Exclusion Rule
Research Report In 2013 the current secretary of defense Leon Panetta disabled the gender based
combat exclusion rule. Since then numerous steps have been taken to ensure women get the same
opportunities as men in combat. Women will now be candidates for more than 230,00 jobs in both
the army and marines, but that is not the only step being taken. President Obama has shown his
support for women to fight in combat. In an article created by usa today he was quoted for saying
things like by us moving to open more militarypositions to women our armed forces has taken
another step toward using the talents and skills of all our citizens and that This is a milestone that
reflects the courageous and patriotic service of women through more than two centuries of
American history. He also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also talked about a call he had with the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta supporting his
decision and that he believes that this will strengthen our military. Democrats also showed their
support of the ban being lifted. The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee issued a
statement that said: I support it. It reflects the reality of 21st century military operations. Sen
Kirsten Gillibrand said that This is a proud day for our country and the step we need to formally
recognize the brave women who are already fighting and dying for our country shoulder to shoulder
with their brothers in uniform on the frontlines. Although everything being said about women
fighting in combat has been positive. Lots of people have been bringing up the effect that this will
have on the women, their bodies, and the people around them. Lots of people have been asking the
question. Are women strong enough to make the requirements? Chicago now made an article
comparing the requirements between men and women to fight in combat. Physical testing was
conducted on 400 females and males at the Quantico Marine Base and they noticed that women
were receiving high test scores that would be

My Career At Robert Bosch
Throughout my career at Robert Bosch, I have been exposed to functionality of products like
Anti Lock Braking Systems, Electronic Stability Program, Airbags and other Electronic Control
Units. The fact that an average car has 60 different embedded units performing various
functions, sharing information over networks like CAN or FLEXRAY, has always amazed me.
This exposure has inculcated a passion in me to gain more knowledge in the design and
development of embedded systems. I completed my undergraduate degree in Electrical and
Electronics. I was motivated to choose this field of study due to a previous attempt at
implementing a cell phone controlled robot that worked on decoding DTMF signals. The choice
paid off when after gaining some knowledge about microcontrollers in my first year, I managed
to get the robot up and running. The satisfaction gained has always been a motivational factor in
my career decisions. I believe my keen interest developed through projects as well as my basic
professional experience in the embedded domain will help me actively participate in UCLA s
graduate program in Electrical Engineering, with focus on Embedded Systems.
I received my undergraduate degree from Amrita Vishwavidyapeetham University, where my key
interests were subjects like Microcontrollers, Digital Systems, Control Systems, Analog Electronic
and Drives. My degree program involved a mix of course work and lab work. While the concepts
were taught in class, the complete

Wallace Stevens and Emile Durkheim Essay example
Wallace Stevens and Emile Durkheim
To more fully understand Stevens poem The Idea of Order at Key West, one can look at the ideas
of the poem in context of social philosophical thought. Emile Durkheim s theories on religion
closely parallel those of Stevens. Both men believe that there is no supreme greater being, or God,
that gives things order and meaning. But both men also believe that humans need to read order and
meaning into the world to understand it, even if the meaning humans imply is false because there
is no God. Since this aspect of both men s ideas is so similar, Durkheim s outline of ideas on
religion can form a model by which Stevens poem can be analyzed. Furthermore, although there is
no way to prove that Steven s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Durkheim stated, the human mind better grasps things that are reflected through symbols.
Lines 18 20 of The Idea of Order at Key West state, Whose spirit is this? we said/ It was the spirit
we sought and knew/ That we should ask this often as she sang. These lines express Stevens idea
that humans long for explanations to why things happen. In this particular poem, the explanation
of the essence of the sea is discussed. The people asking, Whose spirit is this? realize that there
seems to be a sort of external power (181), as Durkheim says, but cannot explain it. The people see
the sea is more than that, more than even her voice (36 37).
Because the sea cannot just be more, it has to be put in concrete terms, and Stevens says that
humans inevitably personify nature to put it in forms that they can understand. Stevens
personification is a different method than what Durkheim suggests, which is that humans create
religious projections of society and nature in order to understand them. While these methods differ,
both men acknowledge that humans have to find meaning on a personal level of individual
conscience.
Stevens supports that, in trying to make the essence of nature understandable, the people in the
poem inevitably personify the sea. It is almost impossible for humans to see things in inhuman
terms. For example, the sea has a body (3) and a cry

Perception Of Authority

Perception of Authority
An instance of travel on the most elementary level is a journey to another location. In Home and
Harem, Inderpal Grewal identifies travel as an institution of England. The voyage to new territories
had sparked a new era filled with new opportunities and ideals in the European continent. Most
importantly travel became an agent of English nationalism and was a key aspect in rise of
imperialism. To expand England s domain of influence became a collective journey and eventually
being a subject of England was equivalent to being imperialist. For people that could not travel, the
guidebook acted as the object of mediation between authority and those it was imposed on (105). At
the Metropolitan Museum, the Egyptian exhibit is also represented under a certain niche monitored
by authority. The spectator culture may vary based on prior knowledge, but the carefully fabricated
environment showcases how the controller authorizes representation within their domains.
There is an unsettled discussion on the pertinence of imperialism to all classes in England. While
some consider it just a concern of the nobility others link it to the manifestation of newborn
nationalism and patriotism in all classes beginning from the mid 19th century. John Mackenzie in
Propaganda and Empire and Imperialism and Pop Culture introduces the concept of generalized
imperial vision as a counterview to the discussion. He sees classes as formations that are
predetermined.

The Three Methods Of Tet Dragon Music In Ancient China
Music in ancient China was mainly used for 3 purposes; rituals, cultural unification and healing.
RITUALS
According to Chinese mythology and folklore, dragons have often been an auspicious symbol.
Many times, they are regarded as a symbol of good luck and have been largely used in rituals
during the ancient times to pray for rainfall in times of drought. These rituals are called dragon

The main instruments involved in the dragon dance are cymbals, gongs and drums. Since it was a
dance that needed great teamwork and coordination, the instruments used reverberates and
energizes the dancers and spectators. Each particular instrument mentioned above makes loud
noises and strong rhythm necessary for the dance. Like how conductors wave their batons when
conducting a band, dragon dance s conductor control of the flow are the results of the precise sound
and rhythm of the instruments. The length of dragons used for rituals differs greatly, it was
believed that the longer the dragon, the more luck they bring. Terrace rice fields in Yunnan... Show

Impact Of Hernan Cortes
No other man has had a greater effect on the forming of Mexico, but Hernan Cortes. Born in 1485
in Medellin from western Spain. Hernan Cortes is still relevant today because of the large impact
he made on today s North, South and Central America. He was also one of the only people to
eradicate a civilisation completely. Although he made massive impacts in the Americas that are still
felt today, it was not the only place that he had significant impacts on. He also had massive impacts
on his home country Spain. To the Aztecs (indigenous Mexican people that are no longer around
today) he was a villain, a murderer. But to the Spanish he was a hero who conquered the land of
Mexicofor the Spanish and lead a great army to victory.
In 1511, Hernan Cortes first served as a soldier on an expedition to Cuba. He then helped
establish a town in Cuba called Bayamo . This was one of his first main impacts on the Americas
that is still felt today. After 7 years Diego Valasquez named Cortes Captain of an expedition to
Mexico, but they had an argument and Valasquez revoked Cortes status. Cortes ignored orders and
traveled to Mexico anyways with about 500 men and 11 ships. His focus was to overthrow the Aztec

Disassociative Identity Disorder In The Movie Psycho
Case Conceptualization In the movie Psycho, Norman Bates showed signs of Dissociative
Identity Disorder. We came to this conclusion based off of his many behaviors and the way he
talks about his mother. Norman cross dresses as his mother in the film, while dressing as her, he
also copies his mother s behavior and what is assumed to be how she acted while she was still
alive. Later in the film it is discovered that Norman actually believes that he is his mother and
thinks it is her that is committing the murders. During these delusions, Norman is seemingly
having a disassociation with himself, reality and his mother. When Norman disassociates and takes
over his mother s persona, it is quite obvious that she was extremely verbally abusive to

Examples Of Wisdom In The Iliad
Wisdom Younger men are changeable; he in his age among them, looking before and after, can
see clearly, what shall be in the interests of all. (Homer 65) This is what Menelaos, Helen s
husband and king of the Mycenaeans, addressed his army with in Book Three of the Iliad by
Homer. I disagreed with Menelaos and what he told his army. First, whether one is young or old,
everyone changes one s mind. For example, throughout the Iliad we can see that Zeus, king of the
gods, changes his mind on whether or not the gods can help in the Trojan War between the
Greeks and the Trojans. At the beginning of Book Eight, Zeus addresses the gods saying, If I
catch sight of anyone slipping away with a mind to assist the (Greeks) or the Trojans, he comes
back blasted without ceremony, or else he will be flung out of Olympos into the murk of Tartaros
that lies deep down in underworld, but then he turns around and starts interfering with the... Show

Zeus, despite having years of wisdom from his many years of life, changes his mind on whether
the gods can interfere with the war. This example proves that even if one is old one can still
change one s mind. Second, wisdom, by the world s standpoint, is not based off of age, but off
of cognition among other qualities. Vivian Clayton, a neuropsychologist, did a study in the 1970
s on wisdom. After asking retired judges and law students and professors, who would have all
been considered wise, she concluded that wisdom is based off of the cognition, compassion, and
reflection of a person. Monika Ardelt, an associate of Vivian Clayton, then proceeded to test other
people asking them questions based on cognition, compassion, and reflection. She found that her
older subjects had less cognition than her younger subjects. These experiments and studies show
that wisdom, from the world s view, is based off of cognition, among other qualities, not age.
Finally, one does not have to be old to achieve

The Possible Causes Of Hurricane Katrina
Weather Disasters Earth is the only planet known to support life, but has a dark side that is
demonstrated every year. Whether by earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, or hurricanes, the Earth is an
extremely active planet, and humans living upon it must heed the potential for danger. One of the
worst of these disasters to occur came in the form of Hurricane Katrina during an 8 days span in
August of 2005. Hurricane Katrina impacted the coast of Louisiana and changed the area
immensely, not only at that time, but the changes can still be seen today, nearly a decade later.

Childhood Family Relationships
Parental child relationships seem to be linked to the health of an individual as they continue
through adulthood. Relationships that are comforting and emotionally important in a child s life
are linked to better overall health in the lifespan of an individual. In this article review, there will
be a continual referral to the behavior model depicted in Chen, Brody, and Miller s article on
ChildhoodClose FamilyRelationships and Health (CITE). ...this model proposes that characteristics
of family relationships including support, conflict, obligation, and parenting behaviors evolve and
change from childhood to adolescence. These characteristics, when considered in conjunction with
developmental needs, govern whether childhood family relationships are based on balance positive
enough to fill a moderating role in which they mitigate the effects that childhood adversities have
on physical health.
Studies on the main effects of childhood family relationships on health have done much to show a
definitive correlation between childhood family conflicts and poor health. Specifically, conflicts or
adversities such as emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse toward a child, parental
mental health, parental substance abuse problems, and parental divorce have a been linked to poor
health in adult individuals (CITE!!!). There have been a been studies on both the negative and
positive family characteristics. Negative family characteristics or families with a high level of

Comparing Christian Liberty, Utopia, and The Prince Essay
Christian Liberty, Utopia, and The Prince
A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none...A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant
to all, subject to none. (Luther Pg. 7) These lines show what Luther is truly about. In Christian
Liberty, Luther believes in the reestablishing of God as the inner authority. In Utopia, Thomas More
believes the power should be in one group and that the rest of the common people in the society
should all be equal like a communist society. In The Prince, Machievelli believes that the power is
within the prince. I choose Christian Liberty as the best form of authority because it is the closest
to being an honest and true way of authority. Although noneof the books portray ... Show more

Is not such a soul most obedient to God in all things by this faith? ...What more complete
fulfillment is there than obedience in all things? This obedience, however, is not rendered by
works but by faith alone. (Luther page 13) In this passage Luther is explaining the inner man
versus the outer man. He is showing that if you trust and believe in God then he will never steer
you wrong but if you don t then, what greater wickedness, what greater contempt of God is there
than not believing his promise...but to make God a liar or to doubt that he is truthful? That is to
ascribe truthfulness to one s self but lying and vanity in God?
This quote shows the dismal side of not believing in God and his supreme power and authority. If
you were to doubt him whom would you go to for salvation once he gave up on you?
Man has a two fold nature, a spiritual and a bodily one. According to the spiritual nature, which
men refer to as the soul, he is called a spiritual, inner or new man. According to the bodily nature
which men refer to as flesh, he is called a carnal, outward, or old man. (Luther page 7) We have
first talked about the spiritual aspect of a person now we are going to talk about the physical aspect.

Oakland s Finest; The Black Panthers Shocking the United States with one symbol, the raised

Black Power Movement or be against us by supporting the lying and deceitful government.
Founded in 1966 by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale, they birthed the start to the American
Public having their voice heard on tense issues. The Black Panther s lasting effects on society are
through their actions, philosophy, and modern day views of race. Many groups have stressed the
importance of Black Rights, but none have come as close as The Black Panthers to getting it
recognized. Marching up the concrete stairs to the front of one of the most iconic places of
Californian Government, The Capital, Black Panthers pounced to the top with fully loaded
shotguns and rope to scale to the summit of The Capital. This was a retaliation to a bill that was
proposed that would scale down the rights of the 2nd Amendment of California. Attempting to
combat Panther Patrols, a neighborhood watch that took justice under their jurisdiction, the
government epically failed paying the price for trying to suppress the voice of the people. This
was similarly done with the Civil Rights Movement as police brutality had reached an all time high
against African Americans. Disagreeing with Martin Luther King s view of how to act, the BPP

Sociology Is A Simple Form Of Sociology
Sociology, in its most simple form, is often described as the study of society and culture or as
Alvin L. Bertrand says, the study of human relationships in his book Basic Sociology (1967:5),
although, others argue that it is not that simple, such as R. Jenkins who says There are those for
whom the fundamental building blocks of Sociological analysis can only be individuals, others for
whom they must be collectivities in The foundations of Sociology(R. Jenkins: 15). Sociology brings
together a number of different viewpoints from a wide range of sociologists. Although Auguste
Come was the founder of the term Sociology , a number of different Sociologists, such as
Durkheim and Marx, have challenged and changed perceptions about the term.
Auguste Comte (1798 1857), a French social scientist inspired by changes that the French
Revolution caused, was the key founder of Sociology as a concept and classed himself at the
first official sociologist . The word sociology is a simple combination of two different words:
Firstly, the word socius , which has Latin origins and a direct meaning of society, association,
togetherness or companionship , and Secondly, the ancient Greek word, logos, which has a
literal meaning of to speak about, or a word . Therefore, Comte defined Sociology, in the
simplest form, as the study of society and culture . Not only was Comte the first to give
Sociology a definition but also the first to study how society worked as a system, as said by

Written by Walter Sosnosky, the writer shares his angry view of how he felt Officer Wilson was
found guilty merely because he was a white officer and the victim was a black man. In his letter,
he writes, America found Officer Wilson guilty of murdering Mr. Michael Brown based on one
fact, that Officer Wilson is white. All that you have done was sent a message to all America and
the world that mob justice leaves only death, destruction and more hatred. When are we as a
nation going to wake up and face the fact that through unity and respect of the judicial system
can we live in trust and peace. I believe that Mr. Sosnosky was making a hasty generalization. A
hasty generalization is a contention that assumes all are the same, however, there are
excessively few occurrences, making it impossible to backing such a case. The writer suggests
that all of America found Officer Wilson guilty. That isn t possible when a jury consists of 12
people and there are over 321 million people in the United States. He also argues that a message
was sent to all of America and the world that mob justice leaves only death, annihilation and
further hate (Sosnosky). I believe that Mr. Sosnosky has also used two logical fallacies in one
statement, a hasty generalization and a slippery slope. He made a hasty generalization when he
says that a message was sent to all of America and the whole world. This simply is not possible. I
am sure there are many people who are not even familiar with the case, not only in the United
States, but throughout the world. In this letter, you will also find he used a slippery slope fallacy,
in which Walter Sosnosky states that mob justice leaves only death, annihilation and further hate.
The Slippery Slope is a fallacy in which somebody expresses that some event should occur after
another with no contention for the inevitability of the occasion being alluded to. A great part of the

The Problem Of Sick Building Syndrome
Introduction There are a number of companies every year that fall victim to slow production
rates because of employees that become ill with sick building syndrome, decreasing their overall
profit. Sick building syndrome is basically declared when a number of workers become sick in a
specific part of a building, and their symptoms can be related directly back to air pollutants.
These air pollutants are broken up into different categories, but the sources can be anything such
as things outside the building; (vehicle exhaust emissions, biomass by products, etc.) which can
enter the building through windows or poorly placed air vents. Or even things inside the
building such as adhesives, carpeting, copy machines, pesticides, etc. That are known as volatile
organic compounds or VOCs that can have a huge effect not only on humans, but plants as well.
(Sumedha, J) This is why it is important to pay more attention to how big each individual s eco
footprint gets! By the end of this report, the importance of being aware will be understood.
History/Origin The presence of air pollutants and climate change are no new topic. Back in the
18th century, the use of burning coal was at a high. During the industrial revolution, the use of
coal was immense and cities air pollutions levels were near what they are today. The
documentation of smog (gas and smoke) goes back as far as 1875 when the Public Health Act

How Did Sherman s March To The Sea Cut A Swath Of Destruction
Sherman s march to the sea cut a swath of destruction sixty miles wide and two hundred eighty
five miles long from Georgia s industrial hub, Atlanta, to the coastal city of Savannah. During his
march Sherman estimated his forces caused at least one hundred million dollars worth of damage
adding up to a little more than one and a half billion by today s standards. Major General William
Tecumseh Shermanbegan his military career at the United States Military Academy where he
graduated in 1840 as a Second Lieutenant. Once the Civil War broke out he was sent to the
Mississippi area where he quickly distinguished himself and rose through the ranks. He was
eventually placed in command of the forces charged with taking the Mississippi River and gained
the respect of Lincoln. This gained him command of the Army of Tennessee and Georgia with
which he was to split the deep south from the upper south, keeping the Confederate armies busy
while Grant swept down from the North. Sherman s daring move... Show more content on

This created a dreadful economic situation in the South. Without the ability to produce any material
goods they could not export items nor could they keep themselves fed with any real consistency. It
did not help that the slaves freed by Sherman were straining already limited resources and the
southerners hated them. However, this was the case in most of the south Sherman s actions were
just a smaller part of the whole. On a larger scale the industrial destruction contributed to the mass
migration of African Americans from the South to Northern industrial cities. The legacy of
Sherman s march to the sea starting with the burning of Atlanta made the southerners wary and
bitter towards the soldiers during the reconstruction period. There were some lasting effects
directly related to Sherman s march, but many repercussions of the war were similar in all areas of
the south and not a direct cause of

Theme Of The Illustrated Man
The Illustrated Man, a science fiction novel written by Ray Bradbury, reaches the first publication
in 1951, post World War II society and a current Cold War environment. The time period and
characteristics of World War II, the Cold War, and foreshadowing of the Civil Rights Movement
serve as important influences for Bradbury s subject and themes of the novel. Recurring ideas of
censorship, technology, justice, and largely death, exist in events and fears of the day. Leading all
themes to tie into an allegorical warning Bradbury directs to an audience of American youth,

The subject of Lespere s accomplishments are nothing special or moral, multiple wives on
multiple planets, but it gives a meaning to Lespere, that Hollis fails to find in his own life, and
for that reason Hollis s reaction speaks of sadness and jealousy. These memories and feelings of
achievement comfort Lespere in death, and the lack of those same feelings leave Hollis broken
and fearful. Bradbury takes the time to generalize the characterization of Hollis in this manner,
shaping the inner conflict of the rocket man s death. With the radio out of reach, Bradbury
expounds upon Hollis internal conflicts, Hollis questions if there is, anything I can do now to
make up for a terrible and empty life [...] a good thing (39). Drifting alone in space, with an
ultimate end of burning up in the atmosphere, fear of pain does not overwhelm him, but the lack
of meaning in life causes him a more daunting and permanent perception on death. The obvious
internal struggle of Hollis, is Bradbury s way of communicating this in a thematic way.
Ultimately, Hollis discovers that his death appears like a meteor, and desires that it will provide
joy for somebody. That pleases him, because he dies with a purpose after not living with one.
Bradbury conveys the struggle of Hollis death through the amount of struggle and internal conflict
he faces prior to his death, the desires he expresses

Capitalism And The American Worker
Throughout the 19th and 20th century capitalism was on a rise and many writers had different
perspectives on the positives and negatives of capitalism and how it shaped America. Thomas
DiLorenzo who wrote How Capitalism Enriched the Working Class, focused on how the world
became better because of capitalism. Melvyn Dubofsky s Industrialism and the American
Worker, focused on how the lives of working people were deteriorated because of the
development of labor and what conditions these people faced. Douglas Blackmon s Slavery by
Another Name, provided evidence that slavery did not end along with the Civil War and that
African Americans continued to be enslaved and exploited under the system. DiLorenzo agrees
that capitalism helped improve wages and workers in America, but Blackmon and Dubofksy
show evidence of other arguments that prove to us that capitalism was not a positive impact. In
the era when capitalism was booming workers faced very harsh working conditions and little job
security. The workers were the very last ones to benefit from their own work, the products of
capitalism invariably benefit[ed] the wealthy first (DiLorenzo, pg.96). Workers worked long
hours sometimes even a 24 hour shift and maybe got a day off every two weeks, with a typical
work week of 50 54 hours, where today it is only 40 hours. Due to this era being big on
industrialism that meant machines were constantly replacing workers, that is new machine
techniques replacing old human skills

A Summary Of Misogyny In Henry IV Part 1
In Henry IV Part 1, Shakespeare introduces two relationships that seem to be polar opposites of
each other, the married couple, Hotspur and Lady Percy and the newly wedded couple, Mortimer
and Lady Mortimer. Even though Lady Percy and Lady Mortimer did not have key roles in the
play they were significant to the portrayal of their male counterparts and Shakespeare s portrayal
of misogyny in the late 16th century. In the Elizabethan era, women were considered second class
citizens, and weren t allowed the same rights as men, and that misogynistic behavior resulted in
many unhappy marriages. In Shakespeare s play, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer are the only
characters with a happy relationship because they don t exhibit the same sexist attitude as the other
characters; while Hotspur and Lady Percy s relationship is an example of how England s
misogynistic attitude resulted in an unhappy marriage. Lady Percy and Hotspur s marriage is an
example of misogyny because, even though Hotspur is married to Kate, he refuses to treat her as
his equal and instead insults her when she shows concern for his strange behavior. When Lady
Percy questions Hotspur s behavior, Hotspur tells her that:
But hark you, Kate, I must not have you henceforth question me whither I go, nor reason
whereabout. Whither I must, I must, and to conclude, this evening must I leave you, gentle Kate. I

Belonging Involves Conforming and a Loss of Identity -...
The foundation of belonging is often associated with the loss of a person s individuality. Indeed, as
the construction of one s identity is highly intricate and ever changing, several authorities often
considers its development to be associated with our relationships. From this, it can be shown that
belonging can be associated with the degradation of one s identity. Such impact can be explained
through the reality that in order to belong, we must share similar characteristics or identity with that

Teenagers however are often ostracized for being different and this results to the conformity of
many children and the foreclosing on uniqueness and individuality. In cases of children,
belonging is usually not associated with the degradation of identity. This may not be the case
with older people as it is a lot more complicated and sometimes conforming may be the only way
to belong. We must consider times at which belonging can threaten an individualised identity.
For some, the only way to belong is to conform to expectations, losing personal ideologies as a

conforming in order to belong. Junior is just a poor Indian reservation kid who dreams of a

Racism In The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter
Throughout the course of about fifteen years, the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling has made
such an impact on the world by intertwining politics in the books. Influencing children on the
struggles of such things as racism, terrorism, and even the problems in the social classes, has made
each child flourish and enhance their curiosity. In America, the government compares ideally to the

of Harry Potter is just as bluntly barbaric as it is in America today. For centuries, human beings
are constantly trying to prove whose race is superior in America and in the Wizarding World. In
the Wizarding World, the dilemma is between Muggles and Pure Bloods. Muggles are what
wizards consider humans that have no relation to wizardry or magic. Pure Bloods are wizards
who have pure wizard blood and families have been for centuries. Pure Bloods consider Muggles

Marx. The novel successfully shows that capitalism can logistically separate classes to the point

capitalistic economy is ridiculously uneven. Marxist communism on the other hand would place
primary ownership of the means of production in the hands of the state, creating a classless

The Importance Of The Easter Vigil
At the Easter Vigil, a blazing fire is prepared... outside the church... on this most sacred night, in
which... [the Catholic Church celebrates the] Lord Jesus Christ[ s passing]... over from death to
life. The fire is then blessed by the priest. After igniting and blessing the Easter fire, one of the
[attending] ministers brings the paschal candleto the priest, who cuts a cross into the candle... Then
he makes the Greek letter Alpha above the cross, the letter Omega below, and the four numerals of
the current year between the arms of the cross. After marking the Christcandle with all the symbols
just mentioned, the priest may insert five grains of incense into the Easter candle in the form of a
cross. These two ritual actions (i.e. the blessing of the fire and the preparation of the Paschal
candle) are essential moments in the Easter Vigil liturgy. This paper will explore why these two
ceremonial actions are significant to the Catholic Church. To fully appreciate why these two actions
are so meaningful, it is necessary to examine four questions. First, what is the historical and
symbolic background of these two actions? Second, how are these two procedures initiatory? Third,
what do they teach us about the initiatory process? Fourth, what do these two ritualistic actions

What Is Evil In Dante s Inferno
In the Inferno, Canto XXVII, Dante comes across the Sowers of Scandal and Schism while on his

by the sword of a devil, only to heal and come back to be sliced again. These sinners are aware of
certain things going on in the world, but they can only contact the living through Dante the pilgrim.
There idea of helping the living reveals their inability to recognize their sins and why they are in

The Contributions Of The Endowment Effect Essay
The endowment effect has been a heavily studied subject since the 1980 s when it was first
described by Richard Thaler. This effect describes the phenomena where the buying and selling
prices of an object have major differences. The sellers tend to overvalue their object, requesting
higher prices than a buyer would be willing to pay. The buyers, on the other hand, demonstrate a
much lower maximum price. This discrepancy between buying and selling prices, dependent upon
the perspective of the person, is called the endowment effect. This effect has been connected to
many different cognitive mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the
perspective of cognitive aging. The research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment
effect, relevant research, potential cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age.
Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s
(1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and
went further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky
and Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and
gambles as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of
losing and probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk
averse. This means that when there are certain options of

The Time Of Cholera, By Florentino Ariza
Nostalgia is one of the most potent emotions in the human psyche. The impulse to romanticize an
idealized past is an inclination that most people have felt at one time or another. Sometimes,
revisiting a familiar place can evoke memories from the far removed past and trigger an intense
longing for another time. These feelings can often affect people more strongly than the actual event
did. As a result, nostalgia can often cause people to interpret reality in distorted, unhealthy ways. In
his novel Love in the Time of Cholera, MГЎrquez tells the story of Florentino Ariza, who attempts
to win the love of Fermina Daza solely on the strength of the brief relationship they shared during
their youth. The two people who find each other in the fading twilight of their lives, however, are
completely different individuals from the young lovers seeking idealized constructs. MГЎrquez
depicts the power nostalgia has to alter his characters reflections on their own youth, their
relationships with one another, and on a society, and way of life, that lives on only in their
memories. The way MГЎrquez s characters view and relate to one another is distorted by their
nostalgia. As they grow older, they often grown disenchanted with the illusions they cherished in
their youth. Florentino s adolescent relationship with Fermina is one that shapes the entirety of his
adult life, and simultaneously prevents him from experiencing a genuine connection with the
woman he claims to love. From the very

Race vs. Social Class Essay
Race vs. Social Class THESIS: Race differences in identity and social position were, and are,
more important than class differences in American society. Events in the nineteenth century made
it abundantly and irrefutably clear that race as a concept sui generis superseded social class as
the dominant mechanism of social division and stratification in North America. (Smedley 219)
For many decades people have been using race as a way to classify humans into different social
categories. Lower, Middle, and Upper classes were created to divide humans into appropriate
categories using their individual lifestyles, financial income, residence, and occupation. People
decided to ignore this classifying system and classify one another,... Show more content on

These conditions in turn lead to the way individuals perform at work. It also affects their views
of each other as well as those considered to be above or below them. So, racial discrimination
happens at the work level, as well as, the dividing of social classes. Racial discrimination
dominated over social classes creating an unfair way to divide people. In all areas of life,
Americans were persuaded that the major races black, Indian, Asian, and white could not and
should not live or work together and certainly not as equals. (Smedley 221) All other races were
homogenized, regardless of education, skills, language, religion, income, or place of origin, into
one simple category. Class separation was temporary and situational, as so many Americans were
quick to uncover. White Americans believed that anyone who succeeded in business, politics,
entertainment, or their professions automatically improved their class status and eliminated the
barriers to upper class institutions. Class barriers can be surpassed; race barriers can not. The
social class has two major approaches to the study in the scholarly literature. The first one is
ethnographic and descriptive, and the other is Marxism, which offers a range of perspectives.
Smedley describes Marxism as identifying social classes as groups standing in different
relationships to the mode of production and

Humorous Wedding Speech By The Father Of The Groom
Ladies and gentlemen, faculty, family, and my fellow classmates of the class of 2018, today is
nothing short of auspicious and I m ecstatic to share this milestone with all of you. Before I
begin, I would like to thank those teachers who chose this modest speech among the outstanding
collection of speeches submitted by my simply amazing peers. Although it is ironic that 99% of
this class is older than me and I have been chosen to address the class and impart wisdom and
reflection, I find it to be a great honor to deliver the T.C. Abbey Oration, and I promise I do not
take it lightly. I have carefully chosen every word and phrase with an understanding of the
responsibility bestowed on me. Today, I stand before you, as a graduating Senior, filled with
confusion, uncertainty, and doubt. I m unsure about what the future holds, what... Show more

We ve taken this community for granted, that people so trustworthy and kind, and friendly and
loyal will always surround us in this world. But no, we were lucky to have the most amazing
teachers, friends, and faculty who believed in us when we didn t have faith and pushed us
beyond our limits. Think of that one teacher who affected you, who you have a special bond
with, who changed your life trajectory. Be grateful for everything this school has done for us,
from the small things like froyo on Fridays and candy in the College Office, to those big
moments when you received the best advice from a teacher or your math teacher helped you
understand how to solve for x. If you don t feel guilty for taking this school community for
granted, turn around and look behind you. Who is always there supporting you through
everything, making your days brighter and changing your life for good; it s your parents. Your
parents have poured their blood, sweat, and tears into you, be grateful and show your appreciation

Hercules And April Struggle To Know Their True Identity
It is very important for someone to know their true identity. If you don t know who you are then
how will you apply for a job? How will make friends or find a spouse without knowing who you
really are? All these things that are important in the human life depends on us knowing who we
really are. If not, all the opportunities that rely on us knowing who we are, they will be gone. An
example is like someone saying, Hey what s your favorite color? Then you say, a color, I don t
know. Another example is Hercules, he doesn t know who he is, he keeps searching and
searching, trying to be like others but he really isn t. April wears a mask to cover up her identity, she
is different than all the other kids, so she tries to fit in with a mask but she still ends up different....

First, both Hercules and April struggle to find their true identity in themselves. They just don t
know who they are, so they try to fit in with others. Second, even though April and Hercules do
everything the others do, they still don t fit in, they are a lot more unique than all the other
people. Finally, Hercules and April are both judged or looked at negatively by others. When
April takes off the mask, everyone s body language says, Who is she? or, Uh, she is not like us
so she doesn t fit in. Hercules as a child tried to play with other boys but they always turned him
down. April and Hercules are similar by how they try to solve the problem of their missing identity,
how they still don t fit in even if they change, and finally, how others look upon

Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Works Cited Not Included
Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is a story that brings one to question
the code of honor that exists in the
Columbian town. Marquez paints a picture that shows how societal values, such as honor, have
become more important than the inherent good of human life. The Vicario brothers belief that their
sister was done wrong was brought upon by this honor, along with racial and social tension. The
dangerous path of both honor and religious faith caused Santiago s untimely death.
Before God and before men, Pablo Vicario said. It was a matter of honor (Marquez 56). In the town
honor is taken very seriously and

Angela simply named
Santiago Nasar as her lover but there was no other evidence besides her word to back that
statement up. The narrator explained that most of those who could have done something to
prevent the crime and did not console themselves with the pretext that affairs of honor are sacred
monopolies, giving access only to those who are part of the drama (114). If the medieval idea that
death brings honor is true, then it is safe to say Santiago Nasar died without honor for he did not
know the reason for his death was.
The Vicarios were poor Hispanics and the Nasars were rich Arabs, so social and racial tension
was clear. In the town though, honor is not defined by race or color. The Vicario brothers are
cousins to
Santiago, yet when Santiago died the Arab families were perplexed and sadГў?В¦but none harbored
the ideas of vengeance (94). After they killed
Santiago, the brothers went to the parish house, not for repentance, but because they would be safe
from the Arabs (91) and were comforted by the honor of having done their duty, and the only thing
that worried them was the persistence of the smell [of death] (91).
Before their release, their mother Pura asked Father Amador to confess her sons in jail, but Pedro
Vicario refused, and convinced his brother that they had nothing to repent (95). That scene gives
the reader a picture of how the twins viewed the killing as being above their religion,

What Causes Thermohaline Circulation
1. Thermohaline circulation of the ocean corresponds to the change of density in flowing water. It
is created through global density gradients constructed by surface heat and freshwater fluxes
through the large scale ocean circulation. It is based on deep water currents that make up 90% of
the ocean. Water moves around areas found under sea, ocean basins, since density is caused by
forces and gravity. The amount of salt in the water and the temperatureof the water changes the
density. Salinity and cold temperatures make the water more dense which causes deep waters,
which form when air temperatures are cold and the salinity of the surface of waters is high, to sink
into deep ocean basins at high latitudes where temperatures are cold enough for the density to
decrease. In other terms, it is known as part of the ocean circulation created through the differences
in densities. The density of the water is dependent on the salinity and temperature which changes
from the surface of the water either heating up or cooling down as freshwater flows as said before.
Thermohaline circulation moves a massive current around the world not to... Show more content on

The marine ecosystems would die because the nutrients would not be becoming spread out
through the flow of the currents not to mention more fish would die since the oxygen supply
would decrease if the ocean currents were to collapse fully or partially. The food chain would go
off balance because if some animals were to die, their predators would have no prey to eat on so
those animals would die of starvation which could lead to extinction and all ocean life being
threatened starting with the phytoplankton that uses photosynthesis and is the first in line for the
marine food chain not to mention it is essential to all oceanic life. If phytoplankton die, their skin
sinks to the bottom of the ocean, the surface of the water is not refilled with nutrients if it were to
collapse since the circulation would not move the water down below

Weakeness In WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment
One of the most watched and beloved entertainment series in the United States is WWE/WWF s
television shows. WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment, is the world s largest and most popular
sports entertainment shows helping increase the popularity of similar shows by different
companies in Japan and Mexico as well. One of the main draws to the WWE is the spectacle of
giant men throwing each other or lithe men flipping off of elastic ropes and tackling the opponent
all the while showboating to the audience with taunts. Obviously, whenever an activity has
physical contact there s an element of danger, this danger is amplified due to the showiness of
WWE. One of the major debates around WWE is how fake the action is and if that detracts from...

In September 1997 a wrestler by the name of Goldberg debuted whose angle was that he was a
monster who would demolish the opponent in a manner that makes the fans question if he s truly
going to kill the opponent. Goldberg debuted three years before Lesnar so the Lesnar angle was
nothing new to the fans during his initial debut. After Lesnar s switch to UFC in 2007 the WWE
was filled with worked matches doing the same moves, John Cena does the attitude adjustment
and wins, Triple H hits the pedigree with the pin for the win, but around 2010 the WWE started
hiring new faces who brought a new flair and showmanship alongside highly skilled wrestling the
network has been missing since the early 00 s. Connor was correct in his statement on how the fan
s felt saying Lesnar s performances give audiences that naГЇve but unusual pleasure of not always
knowing the difference between real and fake. This wave of excitement lasted and climaxed at
WrestleMania 30 when Lesnar pinned the Undertaker, ending his 21 year old WrestleMania
streak, but what Connor fails to mention is that since that WrestleMania Lesnar s wrestling style
has devolved into suples, suples, suples,F 5, pin, and it s boring to watch and can suck the
enjoyment out of an otherwise well booked episode. Lesnar s boring modern move set would not
be so boring if Lesnar was able to

Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima By Joe Rosenthal
Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima is a historic photograph by Joe Rosenthal taken on February 23,
1945. The photograph depicts six men, five United States Marines and one United States Navy
corpsman, raising the United States flag on Mount Suribachi, during the battle of Iwo Jima in
World War II. Raising the flag on Iwo Jima was the second flag raising of the day, the first being
raised early in the morning after the area was secure. Joe Rosenthal s photo was printed
thousands of times, won the Pulitzer Prize for Photography, and has been made into stamps and
statutes. Rosenthal uses color, lines, and structure to convey the message that the United States
won the war. Rosenthal utilizes the black and white color of the photo to help convey his
message of sadness. During World War II, over 6,000 marines were killed in battle, so the dark
grey and black help project the message that it was a time of and sadness. The picture is statuesque
in that it looks like someone built a statue on the top of Mount Suribachi and the black and white
color adds to that affect. The black and white color heavily emphasizes the shadows in the picture
and it gives the picture depth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American flag is the most obvious line captured in the photograph. The marines are raising
the flag showing victory and defeat over the Japanese. The raising of the National flag is
recognized as a victory; just as lowering the flag is recognized as a time of mourning and sadness.
The landscape forms horizontal lines in the background, adding to a grimmer and more mourning
look. Although the picture was taken after a hard fought battle, the picture still looks sad and
supports that the battle was a hard fight and thousands of people

  • 2. Gender Based Combat Exclusion Rule Research Report In 2013 the current secretary of defense Leon Panetta disabled the gender based combat exclusion rule. Since then numerous steps have been taken to ensure women get the same opportunities as men in combat. Women will now be candidates for more than 230,00 jobs in both the army and marines, but that is not the only step being taken. President Obama has shown his support for women to fight in combat. In an article created by usa today he was quoted for saying things like by us moving to open more militarypositions to women our armed forces has taken another step toward using the talents and skills of all our citizens and that This is a milestone that reflects the courageous and patriotic service of women through more than two centuries of American history. Democrats also showed their support of the ban being lifted. The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee issued a statement that said: I support it. It reflects the reality of 21st century military operations. Sen Kirsten Gillibrand said that This is a proud day for our country and the step we need to formally recognize the brave women who are already fighting and dying for our country shoulder to shoulder with their brothers in uniform on the frontlines. Although everything being said about women fighting in combat has been positive. Lots of people have been bringing up the effect that this will have on the women, their bodies, and the people around them. Lots of people have been asking the question. Are women strong enough to make the requirements? Chicago now made an article comparing the requirements between men and women to fight in combat. • 3. My Career At Robert Bosch Throughout my career at Robert Bosch, I have been exposed to functionality of products like Anti Lock Braking Systems, Electronic Stability Program, Airbags and other Electronic Control Units. The fact that an average car has 60 different embedded units performing various functions, sharing information over networks like CAN or FLEXRAY, has always amazed me. This exposure has inculcated a passion in me to gain more knowledge in the design and development of embedded systems. I completed my undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronics. I was motivated to choose this field of study due to a previous attempt at implementing a cell phone controlled robot that worked on decoding DTMF signals. The choice paid off when after gaining some knowledge about microcontrollers in my first year, I managed to get the robot up and running. The satisfaction gained has always been a motivational factor in my career decisions. I believe my keen interest developed through projects as well as my basic professional experience in the embedded domain will help me actively participate in UCLA s graduate program in Electrical Engineering, with focus on Embedded Systems. I received my undergraduate degree from Amrita Vishwavidyapeetham University, where my key interests were subjects like Microcontrollers, Digital Systems, Control Systems, Analog Electronic and Drives. My degree program involved a mix of course work and lab work. While the concepts were taught in class, the complete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Wallace Stevens and Emile Durkheim Essay example Wallace Stevens and Emile Durkheim To more fully understand Stevens poem The Idea of Order at Key West, one can look at the ideas of the poem in context of social philosophical thought. Emile Durkheim s theories on religion closely parallel those of Stevens. Both men believe that there is no supreme greater being, or God, that gives things order and meaning. But both men also believe that humans need to read order and meaning into the world to understand it, even if the meaning humans imply is false because there is no God. Since this aspect of both men s ideas is so similar, Durkheim s outline of ideas on religion can form a model by which Stevens poem can be analyzed. Furthermore, although there is no way to prove that Steven s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Durkheim stated, the human mind better grasps things that are reflected through symbols. Lines 18 20 of The Idea of Order at Key West state, Whose spirit is this? we said/ It was the spirit we sought and knew/ That we should ask this often as she sang. These lines express Stevens idea that humans long for explanations to why things happen. In this particular poem, the explanation of the essence of the sea is discussed. The people asking, Whose spirit is this? realize that there seems to be a sort of external power (181), as Durkheim says, but cannot explain it. The people see the sea is more than that, more than even her voice (36 37). Because the sea cannot just be more, it has to be put in concrete terms, and Stevens says that humans inevitably personify nature to put it in forms that they can understand. Stevens personification is a different method than what Durkheim suggests, which is that humans create religious projections of society and nature in order to understand them. While these methods differ, both men acknowledge that humans have to find meaning on a personal level of individual conscience. Stevens supports that, in trying to make the essence of nature understandable, the people in the poem inevitably personify the sea. It is almost impossible for humans to see things in inhuman terms. For example, the sea has a body (3) and a cry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Perception Of Authority Nil Patel Perception of Authority An instance of travel on the most elementary level is a journey to another location. In Home and Harem, Inderpal Grewal identifies travel as an institution of England. The voyage to new territories had sparked a new era filled with new opportunities and ideals in the European continent. Most importantly travel became an agent of English nationalism and was a key aspect in rise of imperialism. To expand England s domain of influence became a collective journey and eventually being a subject of England was equivalent to being imperialist. For people that could not travel, the guidebook acted as the object of mediation between authority and those it was imposed on (105). At the Metropolitan Museum, the Egyptian exhibit is also represented under a certain niche monitored by authority. The spectator culture may vary based on prior knowledge, but the carefully fabricated environment showcases how the controller authorizes representation within their domains. There is an unsettled discussion on the pertinence of imperialism to all classes in England. While some consider it just a concern of the nobility others link it to the manifestation of newborn nationalism and patriotism in all classes beginning from the mid 19th century. John Mackenzie in Propaganda and Empire and Imperialism and Pop Culture introduces the concept of generalized imperial vision as a counterview to the discussion. He sees classes as formations that are predetermined. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hernan Cortes is still relevant today because of the large impact he made on today s North, South and Central America. He was also one of the only people to eradicate a civilisation completely. Although he made massive impacts in the Americas that are still felt today, it was not the only place that he had significant impacts on. He also had massive impacts on his home country Spain. To the Aztecs (indigenous Mexican people that are no longer around today) he was a villain, a murderer. But to the Spanish he was a hero who conquered the land of Mexicofor the Spanish and lead a great army to victory. In 1511, Hernan Cortes first served as a soldier on an expedition to Cuba. He then helped establish a town in Cuba called Bayamo . This was one of his first main impacts on the Americas that is still felt today. After 7 years Diego Valasquez named Cortes Captain of an expedition to Mexico, but they had an argument and Valasquez revoked Cortes status. (Homer 65) This is what Menelaos, Helen s husband and king of the Mycenaeans, addressed his army with in Book Three of the Iliad by Homer. I disagreed with Menelaos and what he told his army. First, whether one is young or old, everyone changes one s mind. For example, throughout the Iliad we can see that Zeus, king of the gods, changes his mind on whether or not the gods can help in the Trojan War between the Greeks and the Trojans. At the beginning of Book Eight, Zeus addresses the gods saying, If I catch sight of anyone slipping away with a mind to assist the (Greeks) or the Trojans, he comes back blasted without ceremony, or else he will be flung out of Olympos into the murk of Tartaros that lies deep down in underworld, but then he turns around and starts interfering with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zeus, despite having years of wisdom from his many years of life, changes his mind on whether the gods can interfere with the war. This example proves that even if one is old one can still change one s mind. Second, wisdom, by the world s standpoint, is not based off of age, but off of cognition among other qualities. Vivian Clayton, a neuropsychologist, did a study in the 1970 s on wisdom. After asking retired judges and law students and professors, who would have all been considered wise, she concluded that wisdom is based off of the cognition, compassion, and reflection of a person. Monika Ardelt, an associate of Vivian Clayton, then proceeded to test other people asking them questions based on cognition, compassion, and reflection. She found that her older subjects had less cognition than her younger subjects. These experiments and studies show that wisdom, from the world s view, is based off of cognition, among other qualities, not age. Finally, one does not have to be old to achieve ... Relationships that are comforting and emotionally important in a child s life are linked to better overall health in the lifespan of an individual. In this article review, there will be a continual referral to the behavior model depicted in Chen, Brody, and Miller s article on ChildhoodClose FamilyRelationships and Health (CITE). ...this model proposes that characteristics of family relationships including support, conflict, obligation, and parenting behaviors evolve and change from childhood to adolescence. These characteristics, when considered in conjunction with developmental needs, govern whether childhood family relationships are based on balance positive enough to fill a moderating role in which they mitigate the effects that childhood adversities have on physical health. Studies on the main effects of childhood family relationships on health have done much to show a definitive correlation between childhood family conflicts and poor health. Specifically, conflicts or adversities such as emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse toward a child, parental mental health, parental substance abuse problems, and parental divorce have a been linked to poor health in adult individuals (CITE!!!). In Utopia, Thomas More believes the power should be in one group and that the rest of the common people in the society should all be equal like a communist society. He is showing that if you trust and believe in God then he will never steer you wrong but if you don t then, what greater wickedness, what greater contempt of God is there than not believing his promise...but to make God a liar or to doubt that he is truthful? That is to ascribe truthfulness to one s self but lying and vanity in God? This quote shows the dismal side of not believing in God and his supreme power and authority. The Black Panther s lasting effects on society are through their actions, philosophy, and modern day views of race. Marching up the concrete stairs to the front of one of the most iconic places of Californian Government, The Capital, Black Panthers pounced to the top with fully loaded shotguns and rope to scale to the summit of The Capital. This was a retaliation to a bill that was proposed that would scale down the rights of the 2nd Amendment of California. Attempting to combat Panther Patrols, a neighborhood watch that took justice under their jurisdiction, the government epically failed paying the price for trying to suppress the voice of the people. • 16. Sociology Is A Simple Form Of Sociology Sociology, in its most simple form, is often described as the study of society and culture or as Alvin L. Bertrand says, the study of human relationships in his book Basic Sociology (1967:5), although, others argue that it is not that simple, such as R. Jenkins who says There are those for whom the fundamental building blocks of Sociological analysis can only be individuals, others for whom they must be collectivities in The foundations of Sociology(R. Jenkins: 15). Sociology brings together a number of different viewpoints from a wide range of sociologists. Although Auguste Come was the founder of the term Sociology , a number of different Sociologists, such as Durkheim and Marx, have challenged and changed perceptions about the term. Auguste Comte (1798 1857), a French social scientist inspired by changes that the French Revolution caused, was the key founder of Sociology as a concept and classed himself at the first official sociologist . The word sociology is a simple combination of two different words: Firstly, the word socius , which has Latin origins and a direct meaning of society, association, togetherness or companionship , and Secondly, the ancient Greek word, logos, which has a literal meaning of to speak about, or a word . Therefore, Comte defined Sociology, in the simplest form, as the study of society and culture . Written by Walter Sosnosky, the writer shares his angry view of how he felt Officer Wilson was found guilty merely because he was a white officer and the victim was a black man. In his letter, he writes, America found Officer Wilson guilty of murdering Mr. Michael Brown based on one fact, that Officer Wilson is white. All that you have done was sent a message to all America and the world that mob justice leaves only death, destruction and more hatred. When are we as a nation going to wake up and face the fact that through unity and respect of the judicial system can we live in trust and peace. I believe that Mr. Sosnosky was making a hasty generalization. A hasty generalization is a contention that assumes all are the same, however, there are excessively few occurrences, making it impossible to backing such a case. The writer suggests that all of America found Officer Wilson guilty. That isn t possible when a jury consists of 12 people and there are over 321 million people in the United States. He also argues that a message was sent to all of America and the world that mob justice leaves only death, annihilation and further hate (Sosnosky). I believe that Mr. Sosnosky has also used two logical fallacies in one statement, a hasty generalization and a slippery slope. He made a hasty generalization when he says that a message was sent to all of America and the whole world. This simply is not possible. I am sure there are many people who are not even familiar with the case, not only in the United States, but throughout the world. The Problem Of Sick Building Syndrome Introduction There are a number of companies every year that fall victim to slow production rates because of employees that become ill with sick building syndrome, decreasing their overall profit. Sick building syndrome is basically declared when a number of workers become sick in a specific part of a building, and their symptoms can be related directly back to air pollutants. The time period and characteristics of World War II, the Cold War, and foreshadowing of the Civil Rights Movement serve as important influences for Bradbury s subject and themes of the novel. Recurring ideas of censorship, technology, justice, and largely death, exist in events and fears of the day. The subject of Lespere s accomplishments are nothing special or moral, multiple wives on multiple planets, but it gives a meaning to Lespere, that Hollis fails to find in his own life, and for that reason Hollis s reaction speaks of sadness and jealousy. These memories and feelings of achievement comfort Lespere in death, and the lack of those same feelings leave Hollis broken and fearful. Bradbury takes the time to generalize the characterization of Hollis in this manner, shaping the inner conflict of the rocket man s death. With the radio out of reach, Bradbury expounds upon Hollis internal conflicts, Hollis questions if there is, anything I can do now to make up for a terrible and empty life [...] a good thing (39). Drifting alone in space, with an ultimate end of burning up in the atmosphere, fear of pain does not overwhelm him, but the lack of meaning in life causes him a more daunting and permanent perception on death. The obvious internal struggle of Hollis, is Bradbury s way of communicating this in a thematic way. Ultimately, Hollis discovers that his death appears like a meteor, and desires that it will provide joy for somebody. That pleases him, because he dies with a purpose after not living with one. Capitalism And The American Worker Throughout the 19th and 20th century capitalism was on a rise and many writers had different perspectives on the positives and negatives of capitalism and how it shaped America. Thomas DiLorenzo who wrote How Capitalism Enriched the Working Class, focused on how the world became better because of capitalism. Melvyn Dubofsky s Industrialism and the American Worker, focused on how the lives of working people were deteriorated because of the development of labor and what conditions these people faced. Douglas Blackmon s Slavery by Another Name, provided evidence that slavery did not end along with the Civil War and that African Americans continued to be enslaved and exploited under the system. DiLorenzo agrees that capitalism helped improve wages and workers in America, but Blackmon and Dubofksy show evidence of other arguments that prove to us that capitalism was not a positive impact. In the era when capitalism was booming workers faced very harsh working conditions and little job security. The workers were the very last ones to benefit from their own work, the products of capitalism invariably benefit[ed] the wealthy first (DiLorenzo, pg.96). Workers worked long hours sometimes even a 24 hour shift and maybe got a day off every two weeks, with a typical work week of 50 54 hours, where today it is only 40 hours. A Summary Of Misogyny In Henry IV Part 1 In Henry IV Part 1, Shakespeare introduces two relationships that seem to be polar opposites of each other, the married couple, Hotspur and Lady Percy and the newly wedded couple, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer. Even though Lady Percy and Lady Mortimer did not have key roles in the play they were significant to the portrayal of their male counterparts and Shakespeare s portrayal of misogyny in the late 16th century. In the Elizabethan era, women were considered second class citizens, and weren t allowed the same rights as men, and that misogynistic behavior resulted in many unhappy marriages. In Shakespeare s play, Mortimer and Lady Mortimer are the only characters with a happy relationship because they don t exhibit the same sexist attitude as the other characters; while Hotspur and Lady Percy s relationship is an example of how England s misogynistic attitude resulted in an unhappy marriage. Lady Percy and Hotspur s marriage is an example of misogyny because, even though Hotspur is married to Kate, he refuses to treat her as his equal and instead insults her when she shows concern for his strange behavior. When Lady Percy questions Hotspur s behavior, Hotspur tells her that: But hark you, Kate, I must not have you henceforth question me whither I go, nor reason whereabout. This effect has been connected to many different cognitive mechanisms, but up until this point has not been studied from the perspective of cognitive aging. The research in this paper will attempt to describe the endowment effect, relevant research, potential cognitive mechanisms, and hypotheses relevant to age. Theoretical Framework A major theory linked to the endowment effect is Tversky and Kahneman s (1979) prospect theory. This theory provided new insight into the decision making process, and went further than previous theory, the utility theory, to explain how decisions are made. Tversky and Kahneman describe prospect theory as a decision between gains and losses, or prospect and gambles as it is referred to in their 1979 paper. With every choice we make there are probabilities of losing and probabilities of gaining. In terms of gaining, prospect theory states that people are risk averse. This means that when there are certain options of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Time Of Cholera, By Florentino Ariza Nostalgia is one of the most potent emotions in the human psyche. The impulse to romanticize an idealized past is an inclination that most people have felt at one time or another. Sometimes, revisiting a familiar place can evoke memories from the far removed past and trigger an intense longing for another time. These feelings can often affect people more strongly than the actual event did. As a result, nostalgia can often cause people to interpret reality in distorted, unhealthy ways. In his novel Love in the Time of Cholera, MГЎrquez tells the story of Florentino Ariza, who attempts to win the love of Fermina Daza solely on the strength of the brief relationship they shared during their youth. The two people who find each other in the fading twilight of their lives, however, are completely different individuals from the young lovers seeking idealized constructs. MГЎrquez depicts the power nostalgia has to alter his characters reflections on their own youth, their relationships with one another, and on a society, and way of life, that lives on only in their memories. The way MГЎrquez s characters view and relate to one another is distorted by their nostalgia. As they grow older, they often grown disenchanted with the illusions they cherished in their youth. Florentino s adolescent relationship with Fermina is one that shapes the entirety of his adult life, and simultaneously prevents him from experiencing a genuine connection with the woman he claims to love. • 42. Race vs. Social Class Essay Race vs. Social Class THESIS: Race differences in identity and social position were, and are, more important than class differences in American society. Events in the nineteenth century made it abundantly and irrefutably clear that race as a concept sui generis superseded social class as the dominant mechanism of social division and stratification in North America. (Smedley 219) For many decades people have been using race as a way to classify humans into different social categories. Lower, Middle, and Upper classes were created to divide humans into appropriate categories using their individual lifestyles, financial income, residence, and occupation. People decided to ignore this classifying system and classify one another,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These conditions in turn lead to the way individuals perform at work. It also affects their views of each other as well as those considered to be above or below them. So, racial discrimination happens at the work level, as well as, the dividing of social classes. Racial discrimination dominated over social classes creating an unfair way to divide people. In all areas of life, Americans were persuaded that the major races black, Indian, Asian, and white could not and should not live or work together and certainly not as equals. (Smedley 221) All other races were homogenized, regardless of education, skills, language, religion, income, or place of origin, into one simple category. Class separation was temporary and situational, as so many Americans were quick to uncover. White Americans believed that anyone who succeeded in business, politics, entertainment, or their professions automatically improved their class status and eliminated the barriers to upper class institutions. Class barriers can be surpassed; race barriers can not. The social class has two major approaches to the study in the scholarly literature. The first one is ethnographic and descriptive, and the other is Marxism, which offers a range of perspectives. Smedley describes Marxism as identifying social classes as groups standing in different relationships to the mode of production and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How will make friends or find a spouse without knowing who you really are? All these things that are important in the human life depends on us knowing who we really are. If not, all the opportunities that rely on us knowing who we are, they will be gone. An example is like someone saying, Hey what s your favorite color? Then you say, a color, I don t know. • 45. Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel Garcia-Marquez... Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez Works Cited Not Included Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is a story that brings one to question the code of honor that exists in the Columbian town. Marquez paints a picture that shows how societal values, such as honor, have become more important than the inherent good of human life. The Vicario brothers belief that their sister was done wrong was brought upon by this honor, along with racial and social tension. The dangerous path of both honor and religious faith caused Santiago s untimely death. Before God and before men, Pablo Vicario said. It was a matter of honor (Marquez 56). Angela simply named Santiago Nasar as her lover but there was no other evidence besides her word to back that statement up. The narrator explained that most of those who could have done something to prevent the crime and did not console themselves with the pretext that affairs of honor are sacred monopolies, giving access only to those who are part of the drama (114). If the medieval idea that death brings honor is true, then it is safe to say Santiago Nasar died without honor for he did not know the reason for his death was. The Vicarios were poor Hispanics and the Nasars were rich Arabs, so social and racial tension was clear. In the town though, honor is not defined by race or color. The Vicario brothers are cousins to Santiago, yet when Santiago died the Arab families were perplexed and sadГў?В¦but none harbored the ideas of vengeance (94). After they killed Santiago, the brothers went to the parish house, not for repentance, but because they would be safe from the Arabs (91) and were comforted by the honor of having done their duty, and the only thing that worried them was the persistence of the smell [of death] (91). Before their release, their mother Pura asked Father Amador to confess her sons in jail, but Pedro Vicario refused, and convinced his brother that they had nothing to repent (95). That scene gives the reader a picture of how the twins viewed the killing as being above their religion, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. What Causes Thermohaline Circulation 1. Thermohaline circulation of the ocean corresponds to the change of density in flowing water. It is created through global density gradients constructed by surface heat and freshwater fluxes through the large scale ocean circulation. It is based on deep water currents that make up 90% of the ocean. Water moves around areas found under sea, ocean basins, since density is caused by forces and gravity. The amount of salt in the water and the temperatureof the water changes the density. Salinity and cold temperatures make the water more dense which causes deep waters, which form when air temperatures are cold and the salinity of the surface of waters is high, to sink into deep ocean basins at high latitudes where temperatures are cold enough for the density to decrease. In other terms, it is known as part of the ocean circulation created through the differences in densities. The density of the water is dependent on the salinity and temperature which changes from the surface of the water either heating up or cooling down as freshwater flows as said before. Thermohaline circulation moves a massive current around the world not to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment, is the world s largest and most popular sports entertainment shows helping increase the popularity of similar shows by different companies in Japan and Mexico as well. One of the main draws to the WWE is the spectacle of giant men throwing each other or lithe men flipping off of elastic ropes and tackling the opponent all the while showboating to the audience with taunts. After Lesnar s switch to UFC in 2007 the WWE was filled with worked matches doing the same moves, John Cena does the attitude adjustment and wins, Triple H hits the pedigree with the pin for the win, but around 2010 the WWE started hiring new faces who brought a new flair and showmanship alongside highly skilled wrestling the network has been missing since the early 00 s. • 49. Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima By Joe Rosenthal Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima is a historic photograph by Joe Rosenthal taken on February 23, 1945. The photograph depicts six men, five United States Marines and one United States Navy corpsman, raising the United States flag on Mount Suribachi, during the battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. Raising the flag on Iwo Jima was the second flag raising of the day, the first being raised early in the morning after the area was secure. Joe Rosenthal s photo was printed thousands of times, won the Pulitzer Prize for Photography, and has been made into stamps and statutes. Rosenthal uses color, lines, and structure to convey the message that the United States won the war. Rosenthal utilizes the black and white color of the photo to help convey his message of sadness. During World War II, over 6,000 marines were killed in battle, so the dark grey and black help project the message that it was a time of and sadness. The picture is statuesque in that it looks like someone built a statue on the top of Mount Suribachi and the black and white color adds to that affect.
