Faith In The Iliad
Faith in the Iliad What is faith? Everyone seems to have a different spin on one little word.
According to Merriam Webster, faith is the strong belief or trust in someone or something ( Faith.
Merriam Webster.com. Merriam Webster, n.d. Web. 5 July. 2015.). According to the bible; faith is
with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (The Holy Bible, Today s
New International Version. Grand Rapids: Zondervan House, 2005. Print.) Faithis something you
believe in, for example: Someone has faith that they will have a good week. In the Iliad faith is
in each other and even in the gods or the gods in the gods. Everyone has a different twist on one

The Colonization Of The Algonquins In North India
Port Royal was the first post under the control of the Catholic French colony of Acadia. From
this location the French were able to impact northeast Canada and America to the Great Lakes
and down the Mississippi River. The French came into contact with many different tribes. One of
the most powerful and diverse groups was the Algonquins. They were composed of many
different groups. The French successfully interacted with the Abenaki, who were part of the
Algonquin. They lived in settled villages with cultivated land for farms and were peaceable.
Father Peter Biard helped with the care of the Native Americans in this area. With great
difficulty Father Biard landed at Port Royal and set his mind to learning the language of the
surrounding tribes. However, he was not highly welcomed by the French in the area and
struggled for the basic necessities to even survive, which caused him to move to a different
location. He turned his attention to the Kennebec River and soon planted the cross and gave it
the name of the Holy Saviour. While the mission was being established he ventured into the
interior. Father Biard heard crying which was from a sick little Indian boy. He rushed to baptize
the boy before he died with the permission of his father. He then prayed to the Great Father to
save the boy, which happened. Father Biard by this wonder of saving the boy gained their
interest and attention. However, the mission was destroyed. It was not until the Franciscans
came into the area later when they established a new mission by the mouth of the St. Lawrence
River. Patience was a key factor in the missions as they had to deal with many obstacles and
barriers to overcome. Father Paul Le Jeune writes about this struggle, If you wish to converse, in
order to instruct them, it will sometimes be necessary to wait whole hours before finding
opportunity to say to them at the right time one profitable word; and after all your pains and your
visits, a dream, which is, properly speaking, the God of the country, will undo more in one night
than you will have accomplished in thirty days; and you may, indeed, as your sole reward, get a
stroke from the hatchet or arrow (FPL 4) The French continued to contribute to the settlement of

Agent Of National Policy Essay
The agents of the National Policy
The National Policy was the initiative of MacDonald s government. It was designed to secure the
Canadian extension to the western territories for the future settlement and land exploration. The
establishment of the NWMP coincided with the implementation of the policy and subsequently the
first federal agency embraced a vast range of functions to assure its successful realization. At the
beginning of their work the police gave the priority to the Aboriginal issue that included moving
bands to the reserves and sustain peaceful relations with them. When this step was accomplished
the safeguarding of the construction of the CPR, surveillance of the working personal with the
purpose of riot prevention, detection of alcohol and prevention of disorder were assigned to the
NWMP. Finally when the railroad was built and the flow of new settlers contributed to the rapid
exploration and assimilation of new territories, the responsibilities of the police changed
respectively. Beahen and Horral (1998) suggested that the NWMP functions of that period could be
grouped into three general categories: protection of population from natural disasters and social
disorder, performance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To handle this problem there was taken a decision to open additional detachments along the US
border that would also operates as customs points. Regular patrolling of the area, gradual increase
in cooperation with settlers, and collection of customs fees managed to decrease the smuggling
across the border and stealing of timber, secured a constant flow of customs dues into the state
treasury, and became a cornerstone in the formation of the customs service in the West (Beahen

Strategic Management Process
STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT PROCESSS
Strategic or institutional management is the conduct of drafting, implementing and evaluating
cross functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its long term objectives[1].
It is the process of specifying the organization s mission, vision and objectives, developing
policies and plans, often in terms of projects and programs, which are designed to achieve these
objectives, and then allocating resources to implement the policies and plans, projects and
programs. A balanced scorecard is often used to evaluate the overall performance of the business
and its progress towards objectives.
Strategic management is a level of managerial activity under setting goals and over Tactics. Strategic

An organization, with a effective management, should try to implement its plans without signaling
the fact to its competitors.[3]
In order for a policy to work, there must be a level of consistency from every person in an
organization, including from the management. This is what needs to occur on the tactical level of
management as well as strategic.
Strategy evaluation
Measuring the effectiveness of the organizational strategy, it s extremely important to conduct a
SWOT analysis to figure out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (both internal and
external) of the entity in question. This may require to take certain precautionary measures or even
to change the entire strategy.
In corporate strategy, Johnson and Scholes present a model in which strategic options are evaluated
against three key success criteria:
Suitability (would it work?)
Feasibility (can it be made to work?)
Acceptability (will they work it?)
[Suitability
Suitability deals with the overall rationale of the strategy. The key point to consider is whether the
strategy would address the key strategic issues underlined by the organisation s strategic position.
Does it make economic sense?
Would the organisation obtain economies of scale, economies of scope or experience economy?
Would it be suitable in terms of environment and capabilities?
Tools that can be used to evaluate suitability include:

Essay on The Factors Involved in Scientific Revolutions
In the mid sixteenth century, the world took on a revolution of a new kind. Following centuries of
religious and political unrest, countless wars, and the infamous Black Death, which ravaged
through nearly one third of the European population, Nicolaus Copernicus set off the Scientific
Revolution in 1543 with his publication of De revolutionibus orbium coelestium. However, this
revolution would not be restricted to only the sciences, but it would forever change the global
landscape in every aspect of life. Although, named the Scientific Revolution, this metamorphosis of
thought was not restricted to chemistry but touched on nearly every intellectually based subject.
This widespread change was the product of a series of unique influences.... Show more content on

France demanded very high taxes from its people, including the Huguenots, and an anonymous
drawing dating from 1671 exemplifies the magnificent architecture and display of wealth that the
taille produced. The drawing depicts Louis XIV visiting the French Royal Academy, where he is
surrounded by scientific tools and gadgets that signify the remarkable and growing intelligence of
France. This is revealed as the growing field of science, and the discovery of the atom also allowed
many to believe that humans possessed an Infinite Wisdom and Power (Doc. 8) that further
supported belief in the Divine Right of Kings, that the French throne had been specifically chosen
by god.
Another instrumental force was religion, which was led by clerical officials, and also played a
significant role as it provided scientists of the revolution with an inspiration, that they were
efficiently employing all the intellectual ability that God had blessed them with. The
aforementioned Polish Priest and astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus, is an epitome of an religiously
inspired individual. In his 1543 book, On the revolution of the Heavenly Spheres, in a dedication
to Pope Paul III he states, the learned and unlearned alike may see that I shrink from no man s
criticism. It is to your Holiness rather than to anyone else that I have chosen to dedicate these

Robert Lee Frost Analysis
Robert Lee Frost was conceived in San Francisco, March 26. He was one of America s premier
twentieth century writers and won the Pulitzer Prize four times. In spite of the fact that his
verse shapes are old style, he was an innovator in the interaction of meter and rhyme and in the
wonderful utilization of the vocabulary and emphases of how everybody speaks today. His
work is full of nature and is very touching. Two of Robert Lee Frosts supreme and popular poems
that I will be working with are The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on A Snowy Evening
. In the poems Road not taken and Stopping by woods on a snowy evening Robert Frostexplains that
both depict how to take choices in life a circumstance where he needs to pick between two ways in
that will affect his life forever.
In The Road Not Taken the writer in the sonnet is voyaging and comes at the spot from where
the road is isolated into two. Here he needs to choose which way he needs to go for eventual fate
of his life. The goals of both pathways are obscure. Yet, the poet needs to pick one of them as he
can t choose both roads at once. Utilizing yellow wood (line 1) as a representative signal to
seniority moving toward quick, his definitive decision will endure for what he will have to live
with for the rest of his life. Moving toward older age comes with the acknowledgment of the
truth, it s an ideal opportunity to say goodbye to dreams and expectations. Then took the other,
as just as fair and having perhaps the better claim (line 6 7). The poet appears to be indecisive
here. But, he has settled on a choice, he is still constantly thinking about it. On the outline, both
roads strike as comparative, with no apparent difference. As a result, his absence of activity and
uncertainty causes him enormous distress and delay. Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I
doubted if I should ever come back (line 14 15). The poet endeavors to persuade himself with little
achievement, verging on daydreaming. He induces himself that if one road ends up being
unsatisfactory, he would have the capacity to offer reparation and pick the other road. In any case,
looking back, he s completely mindful that his decision will impact him in his later years

Discuss And Understanding Buffer Solutions
INTRODUCTION
This assignment is going to be discussing and understanding Buffer solutions. The basic
principles will be looked at in order to go into more depth to understand the biological importance
of buffer solutions and how these solutions are produced as well as how the body is affected by
this and the adjustments made. This extended research task is being conducted to fully understand
the use and main reasons that buffers exist, not just for environmental reasons but also for
biochemical reasons. The scenario that will be looked at is the buffering system inside the human
body; the human body needs buffers in order to stabilize the pH levels to keep everything
functioning properly.
A buffer is an aqueous solution that has a generally stable pH level; this means that it can resist
pH changes when small quantities of either an acid or a base are added to that specific buffer
solution. However, each specific buffer has a buffer capacity; this is the amount of an acid or
base that can be added to the buffer solution before the pH dramatically begins to change.
However in some cases it can also be defined as the amount of a strong acid or base that must be
added in order to change the pH levels of one litre of solution by one pH unit. The buffer
solution is a result from a weak acid and conjugate base to form the salt of that acid/ionic
compound and water. For a buffer to occur there needs to be equal numbers of moles for the acid
with the hydrogen ions and the base

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Archetype Analysis
There are a number of many different archetypes found in works of fiction and nonfiction that
bestow upon the hero his true role in a work of literature. In the Middle English, chivalric romance
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain s role as the hero emboldens as the story describes more
and more archetypes of the quest. The monomyth can be described as the three step process that the
hero takes in completing the quest motif. The basic template is supported by separation, initiation,
and return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth (Campbell 28). Each of these
three categories contain other subcategories, which help understand the different archetypical
situation within the work itself. An understanding of three key archetypes the magic weapon, the
boon, and the unhealable wound reveal the essence of Gawain s role within the archetypal quest
motif.
The magic weapon in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the the green girdle. The green girdle
was bestowed upon Gawain by the host s wife. However, as the story concludes we soon find out
that this young lady ends up being the Green Knight s wife. The green girdle symbolizes
safeness or a value of being safe. Between there meeting the young lady explains, For whatever
Knight is girded with this green lace, while he bears it knotted about him there is no man under
heaven can overcome him, for he may not be slain for any magic on earth (Weston 31). The
young lady gives Gawain the green girdle after he refuses to take the ring that is offered to him.
Since Gawain fails to exchange the girdle with Bertilak as the terms of the men s agreement
dictate, it also symbolizes Gawain s desperate desire to survive at the expense of his code of
honor. Only after Gawain fails the Green Knight s test does this meaning become clear to him.
With the power of the green girdle by his side and his mind set forth on his destiny, Gawain heads
out with the guide to find the Green Knight. About half way through the ride the guide asks
Gawain whether he would decide to slide out of his scenario with the Green Knight. As they reach
the border of the forest, the guide promises not to tell anyone if Gawain decides to give up the
quest. Gawain refuses, determined to

Male Dominance In Hamlet Essay
In William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, each of the male characters, including prince of Denmark,
Hamlet, stand out in different ways with their will, actions, and wishes they would like to take.
However, on the other side, a female character, Ophelia is portrayed as weak character in the male
dominance throughout the play. Through feminist lens to the end of the play the causes of Ophelia
s madness and insanity depicted by her lack standing up for herself in male dominance, Hamlets
treatment, and the death of her loved father.
Firstly, Ophelia s tendency to be controlled in male dominance shows in the very beginning of the
play Act 1 when her brother, Laertes and her father, Poloniuswarn of Hamlet s intentions and her
relationship with Hamlet. Before Laertes gets on a ship to France he tells her Hamlet s love is not
permanent, sweet, not lasting, the perfume and suppliance of a minute. No more (1. 3. 8) and
considers his flirtation as a violet in the youth of primy nature (Shakespeare I. iii. 7). Then he

She never be allowed to express her inner real feelings. Eventually, her madness leads to put
herself to the death by the end of the play. Ophelia lost herself in her destructed mind with her
language expresses her madness which interpreted as she s being herself without any manipulation
from males around her. Her obedience to males causing her lack of stand up for self, Hamlet to
reveal his love actually never existed, and let her know the murder of his father. Throughout the
stages of her madness it reflects the feminist perspectives of how female character, Ophelia, in this
play indicates how males treat female as ignorant and indifferent even though they see her

his very first variety store entitled Walton s Five and Dime. It was right then and there that
Walton began to offer low prices compared to the other businesses in the local area. His idea of
offering low prices surprisingly worked and he soon found himself venturing out and
purchasing 15 variety stores all located around the central area by 1960. Everyone in town
thought Sam was nuts for taking such a serious risk on drastically cutting back prices, but Sam
never felt the least bit worried about his strategy. In 1962, the first Wal Mart opened its doors,

Homeschooling Advantages
Is homeschooling the better option? Sure, it may not be for everyone. Maybe the disadvantages
intimidate you. However, each decision we make, as parents, has at least one disadvantage. We
must decide whether the advantages outweigh the cost. Therefore, before you jump to conclusions,
let s take into consideration some of the benefits homeschoolingcan offer. Homeschooling is more
cost effective. Homeschooling provides many benefits such as the elimination of bullying, better
test scores, children can work at their own pace, and families have more time together.
Homeschooling is more cost effective than sending children to public schools. In my area for
students who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch, the price for each school year, per child, is
$423 based on a 180 day school year. School supplies aren t cheap; according to the article
Mommy Edition, schools usually send home a list of mandatory supplies that will be kept at the
end of the year (2017). The cost of school pictures and year books can be anywhere between $25
and $100 per child. Then there are activities such as sports, clubs, and field trips. My parents
despised the day I brought home a fundraiser packet. Public schools push this on parents because
children see the prizes not the prices. One year I sold candy for a school fundraiser. My brother
and I ended up eating more than I sold, and this left my parents having to pay $156 for what was
missing. Otherwise, my grade card would have been withheld.

Implication Of Costume Design Choices Of William...
Implication of Costume Design Choices in Staging Marlowe s Doctor Faustus An effective
costume engages the audience s attention and enhances the production and the actor s
performance: (1) it visually defines and supports the character developed by the actor, and (2) it
helps establish the overall theme and mood of the production as interpreted by the director. An
effective costume speaks to the audience s subconscious store of knowledge and experience,
helping them to identify the individual characters even before they speak and even if they are
silent. The Magic Garment (Cunningham 2) The most first and most important step in designing
costumes for a show is to discuss the overall artistic vision of the show with the director.
Interpretation of the text and the resulting goal of the production will guide the artistic design of
the show, from the set and costumes to props and acting. Eleanor Fuchs essay EF s Visit to a
Small Planet: Or Some Questions to Ask of a Play provides an analytical framework that can be
applied to any play to help determine the nature of this interpretation. When this framework is
applied to Marlowe s The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, it is possible to consider how design
elements, such as costumes, might change the overall audience interpretation of the play. Design
choices provide details that aren t specified in the text alone, which can direct not only the audience
s overall interpretation of the show, but also their

Benefits Of A Hoodie
Clothing is mandatory in most places in the country. People often choose items they love, never
stopping to think about what their choices say about their personality. Don t let this happen. As
many places now offer custom printed items, a person can have an apparel item they love at less
than what they may imagine.
Printed hoodies remain a great way to stay warm when the weather turns cool. Why settle for a
plain hoodie, however, when a person can have one that truly reflects their interests and
personalities? Anyone can buy a hoodie with a brand name, but only a limited number of
individuals will benefit from wearing one with their school name or a club logo on it. This is a
great way to show school spirit when out and about, and the monies raised from the sale of these
items will benefit the organization hosting the drive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to students or members of the club, loved ones may also want to display their pride

choose to wear the hoodie to the gym or an exercise class, and everyone will find it easy to pull a

more about the school or organization found on the shirt.
Printed hoodies help to raise awareness of the school or club and do so at a very affordable price.
Individuals love this item simply because they can wear the clothing and save on their apparel

What Is Elizabethan Warfare
Elizabethan age Warfare
While Elizabeth I. ruled as queen there were three great wars: The one against Spain and two
rebellions started by each a Irish Earl, one by Earl Desmond, James Fitzmaurice Fitzgerald, and
the other one by Earl Tyrone, Hugh O Neill. All wars ended with a good outcome for the British
Empire, for example the the failure of the Desmond Rebellions.
First of, the most important war within Europe of that era. The war between Spain and England,
which also involved fights in the Netherlands, which later were known as Dutch Rebellion. The
war could be forseen at the latest when Queen Elizabeth I. was excommunicated by the Pope 1870,

England at that time didn t have half of this amount of ships, just 34 and over 160 merchant

able to defeat the whole Spanish Armada.
The war ended after the next king, James I, was proclaimed king. The reasons are simple: He forbid
all privateering and was also a Catholic Monarch. So Elizabeth I could never end the war against
Spain herself because she never intended to do as James I did.
Coming to the next fightings which all were before or during the war against Spain. The first one
were the Desmond Rebellions led by James Fitzmaurice Fitzgerald, Earl of Desmond in the 1870

Why Is Marie Antoinette An Important Game Changer
Who should you be in a world where everyone hates the real you? In a perfect world there would
be no hate and people would except your true self. Sadly, we don t live in a perfect world. We live
in a world where hate, violence, and tragedy are normal. However, Marie Antoinette had to go
through tragedy, violence, hate, and cruelty to be herself. Marie Antoinetteproves herself to be an
important game changer because of her fearless actions, intelligence, and her determination to
stay true to herself. Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755 in Vienna, Austria as the
fifthteenth child of the Holy Roman Emperor Francis. Marie Antoinette was torn from the life
that she had known for 13 years to live with her soon to be husband, Louis XVI. She did not

was taught how to act, dress, and talk. Her sister Josepha died when she was seventeen of cowpox

Lu Xun often makes a point to include the underlying cruelty found in Chinese culture within his
stories. Using characters from Diary of a Madman, Ah Q, and an Unimportant Affair, I will
explain why this topic stood out to me the most. In Diary of a Madman, the main character is a
madman who writes about his delusions and lives with his older brother. Ah Q follows a man who
is deemed simply as Ah Q. It describes his hardships, which are brought on by the cruelty of the
society, as well as by his own doings. Lastly, in An Unimportant Affair the main character
witnesses an event that changes his outlook on life and the society around him and makes him
contemplate his motives. In Diary of a Madman, the main character has been locked in a room in
his older brother s home. At one point, he claims he hasn t seen the moon in thirty years. He
begins by telling us he fears the neighbor, Old Zhao and his dog, as well as the children of his
village.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The madman sees cruelty all around him, whether it was real or not is up to debate, but
nonetheless, he believes the people of his village is out to get him and take advantage of him. He
fears for himself and the children who have already learned that cruelty and those that have not.
He wants to see the world change and become a better place where everyone is safe and protect
each other from being eaten . Ah Q demonstrates the distaste every culture has for the homeless and
undesirable people in the societies. He is looked down upon and beaten, sometimes just for existing.
The people around him see his as less than human, and equate him to animals, while he himself calls
himself a bug. This alone does not satisfy the malicious need to assault and humiliate him, after,
they continue to beat him until they get

The And Characterization Of Project Mn ( Bpmp )
Syntheses and characterization of [Mn(BPMP)(OTf)2] catalysts
BPMP was synthesised via the published procedure [2b] and expected, the piperazine ring adopts

This heterogeneous catalyst can be applied to a wide variety of activated and non activated
primary and secondary alcohols. As shown in Table 3, benzyl alcoholand substituted benzyl
alcohols are converted to their corresponding aldehydes efficiently. In the case of benzyl alcohol,
after 30 min, only benzaldehyde was obtained in 99% yield. In longer reaction times (1h), the
obtained products are 97% p OCH3 benzaldehyde and 3% p OCH3 benzoic acid. The results
show that the substituent s have no major effect on the oxidation of benzylic alcohols. A good
selectivity experimental in the case of cinnamyl alcohol and only oxidized in alcoholic group
and no epoxide yield was obtained. Manganese(II)non heme was also used for oxidation of
secondary alcohols and their corresponding ketones were obtained in good yields. We used
hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as the oxidant and [Mn(BPMP)(OTf)2] as the catalyst for the
oxidation of alcohols. To a mixture of substrate (1mmol), manganese non heme catalyst (1mol
%), and solvent (CH3CN = 3mL) was added H2O2 (1.2mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred
for 30 min at room temperature. This system has shown high catalytic activities for the oxidation
of non activated and activated alcohols under mild conditions as shown in Table 4. Secondary
alcohols were easily converted to the corresponding ketones in excellent yields and reaction
selectivity was over 99% in all cases. Cyclic alcohols

Racial Barriers In America
Americans are constantly bombarded by depictions of race relations in the media, which suggest
that discriminatory racial barriers have been dismantled. (Gallagher). We as a society in America
think that everything is over that discrimination is done with. Race is something that is inevitable,
but how we decide to perceive it is our choice, we see it as something not important and that race
does not matter for a long time. So why are Indians to this day segregated from everyone else in
reservations. With separate government still living within the United States, because they were seen
as savages and not as humans. And why did the Irish and Japanese work so hard to become
Americans. They wanted to look or at least be treated like white people

The Black Cat Meaning
Darkness lives within each of us. It lurks inside the deep, obscure abyss of our hearts. To escape
the judgment and belittlement of others, we conceal our true inner selves in which the iniquity
hides. As the storyteller states in The Black Cat , initially, he buried his mental monster underneath
kindness and humanity. In fact, the narrator declares, From my infancy I was noted for the
docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to
make me the jest of my companions (Baym and Levine 718). However, through the instrumentality
of the Fiend Intemperance, also known as alcohol, he took on his naked being (719). He stripped

However, this does not last long. In another burst of pure rage, the murderer attempts to strike
the cat, but his wife stops him, and his loyalty shifts as quickly as a flash of lightning. He
withdrew [his] arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain (723). Frankly, the narrator s
wife seemed as if she was most likely frail and withdrawn. Therefore, it was not as if she had the
ability or inclination to attack her husband in any way, so the narrator s immediate reaction was in
no way self defense. In other words, he had no reason to accidentally kill his innocent wife.
Moreover, after the completion of the deed, he did not immediately run to the police, yelling, I
killed my wife! I killed my wife! He actually deposited the body against the inner wall of a cellar
(723)! Yet, in order to possess intent, one must have a motive. Well, what exactly was the author s
motive? Perhaps, his motive lay in the fact that he wanted to be alone with no responsibilities and
no morals. Although the passage does not directly state this notion, it indicates that his wife stood
on the foundation of right and wrong and that she represented what he no longer had nor wanted
morality.
Thus, to rid himself of something he had thrown away a long time ago, the narrator purposely
murdered his wife in The Black Cat . His

The Rocket Man Analysis
In the short story, The Rocket Man, an adaptation of The Illustrated Man, the author Ray Bradbury
describes the life of an astronaut who is torn between living an ordinary life with his family and
traveling through space on a rocket ship. The story, written in 1951, is based around how the father
s space travel affects his son, Doug, and the father s relationship with his wife. The Rocket Man
was written during the modern and contemporary periods of literature, a time when science fiction,
new technology, and realism was forthcoming. During the 1950 s, the United States began its
space program, and space travel was quickly becoming a reality. The Rocket Man was influenced
by this time period in history and literature, and the story describes a futuristic place where
technology is highly advanced and humans are capable of fast space travel to different planets
throughout our solar system. Within the reading, the author relays themes of displeasure and
unhappiness with life and the problems of a dysfunctional family. In developing these themes,
Bradbury incorporates literary techniques such as first person point of view, symbolism, and plot
elements like conflict and irony. Through these story elements, the author is able to develop the
theme and provide the reader better insight into the story meaning and the minds of all the
characters. First, the author writes the selection from the viewpoint of Doug via first person point
of view. Throughout the reading, the author

Annexation Of Philippines Essay
The Unjust Annexation of the Philippians
No man is good enough to govern another man without that other s consent. Abraham Lincoln.
(Document A). The United States did just this in 1898, when they annexed the Philippines. The
Filipino people had been fighting for their independence against Spain for many years before the
US intervened. The rebels, led by Emilio Aguinaldo, were grateful for the assistance. The Filipino
people thought that the US had come to help free them from Spain. Unfortunately for the Filipino
people, they were incorrect. On February 6, 1899, the United States of America annexed the
Philippines, much to the disgust of the rebels in the Philippines and many people in America
(including Mark Twain, Andrew Carnegie, and former President Grover Cleveland.) The reasoning
behind this was partially for economic prosperity, thinking that the Philippines held the secret route

conquer them, making it a war of conquest and therefore unwise. To reinforce the point that you don

their borders, this second perhaps. The five countries that the US trades with the most are Canada,
China, Japan, Mexico, and Germany. The US does not own any of these countries. You do not have
to own a country to trade with them and since one of the United State s main reasons for annexing
the Philippines was to create a trading route, the United States was unjustified in annexing the

English as a Second Language
English as a second language is becoming more popular all across the globe. It is not surprising,
because English is the main language of business and commerce, trade, advertising, sport, of
science, medicine, education, of popular music, entertainment, computers, video games and the
Internet. Most of the scientific, technological and academic information in the world is available
primarily in English. English unites and connects people from many different countries and
cultures more so than other languages. People around the globe learn English for different
reasons. They study English because they want to have access to the information presented only
in this language, some of them want to be able to communicate with more people wherever they
go, others do it in order to obtain a good and well paid job or to study abroad. Nowadays
knowledge of the English in Kazakhstan is no longer just a fad of intellectuals, but a vital
necessity. Majority of students here starts attending English classes 3 or 4 times a week since the
second grade, however most of them do not speak English at all, they do not even understand it.
Their English is very poor. Students who learn English attending courses know many grammar rules
excellently, but they find it difficult to apply it in practice, they cannot express their thoughts. I
think it is because of the typical learning style here teacher oriented method, book centered method.

experienced an unforgettable nuclear disaster. At the time, the USSR was responsible for roughly
10% of the world s nuclear power. The year of the accident Chernobyl nuclear power plant was

The Soviets put only the bottom pipes in containment because this was easier. The main
weakness was in shutting the reactor down. As a result of inadequacy the shutdown rods are part
of the normal plant control system rather than being a separate emergency system. Again a fault
in the control system also makes the emergency shutdown unable to function. Another weakness
was that Chernobyl had only partial containment. Because of the partial containment the
radiation went out the top of the reactor where there were no leak tight boxes. The hot fuel and
graphite were exposed to air when they went out the top of the reactor. If there had been a
completed containment, then the water and steam from the broken pipes would have dissolved
almost all of the cesium and radioactive iodine that escaped. Even if the containment leaked the
cesium and the iodine would not get out. Because the hot fuel and graphite were exposed to air
this chemical reaction did occur. The operators had removed all of the control rods except for
six. This action is against procedures. It is not safe for any reactor to operate with so many
control rods removed. Besides the RBMK reactor was not designed to operate at such low power.
The power generators of this reactor were run by steam forced through turbines. By the time the
reactor exploded none of the turbines were turning and all of the steam was building.

groups can define the size of the regional market and the rules under which companies must
operate. Companies in the initial stages of foreign expansion must be aware of the regional

opportunities. For instance when you have a company that assesses the needs of their product in a
foreign market, there is cost associated with the export of their product and with the agreements
that the company has that is protected by trade agreements the company will save monies in the
long run and withstand the impact of their product being sold in other markets, by sometimes

The Novel 1984 By George Orwell
The novel 1984 by George Orwell exemplifies the issues of a government with overwhelming
control of the people. This government controls the reality of all of their citizens by rewriting the
past, instilling fear, and through manipulation. This is an astounding story because of the realistic
qualities that are present throughout the text about an extreme regulatory governmentand its effects.
This society is overwhelming consumed with the constructed reality that was taught to them by Big
Brother. George Orwellbrings significant aspects to the novel like the complexity of relationships
during a rebellionand The Party s obsession with power. The main character Winston struggles
throughout the story trying to stay human through literature, self expression and his individuality.
The party uses human s tendencies, weaknesses, and strengths in order to dehumanize their citizens
to gain control over them.
Furthermore, in 1984 the main character Winston realizes that their government dictates the history
keeping the citizens uninformed to a life with freedom. The ignorance of the people relinquishes
the citizen s freedom and power to the party. Winston points out that this countenances them to
manipulate the people, who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls
the past (Orwell 360). When The Party is able to control the history they are able to manipulate their

Gender Roles For Females And Females Essay
Introduction:
In American society, social norms have created distinct gender roles for males and females.
These gender roles attribute specific traits and behaviors to each sex that has influenced the way
women and men tend to act, think, and behave towards one another. Specifically, these gender
roles not only affect helping behavior as the type of help that is given, but also, the help
received can depend on the sex of an individual (Eagly and Crawley, 1986). According to
stereotype studies done by Bern (1974), Ruble (1983) and Spence and Helmreich (1978) women
are seen as more helpful, kind and compassionate compared to men. ((Eagly and Crawley, 1986).
Along with these traits comes the belief that women are more sympathetic and empathetic in terms
of helping behavior (Eagly and Crawley, 1986). Because of these characteristics, women are
expected to provide a nurturing help that mirrors the role of a caretaker as they are expected to
provide a deeper emotional and long term commitment help to the individual in need. The male
gender role describes masculinity as daring, chivalrous and heroic (Eagly and Crawley, 1986).
These traits lead to the expectation of a different type of helping behavior from men, one that is
not long term but more unexpected and brave, such as, saving a life. Along with heroic helpfulness
comes the act of chivalry. As the male gender roleportrays men as the stronger sex due to their
physical capabilities, there is an expectation that they will

Defining Oppositional Defiant Disorder Essay examples

My rationale for writing this paper is to know what oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is and
its effect on age, gender, and concurring behaviors (comorbidity) like attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder (CD). How these conditions are affected in
getting the proper diagnosis and treatment for ODD. Loeber, Burke, and Pardini reported in
clinical groups among children, ODD is listed as one of the most commonly known behavioral
disorders (as cited in Kazdin, 1995). Stringaris and Goodman (2009) found ODD is apparently
very important among adolescents because of its strong connection with a large assortment of fully

Boylan, Vaillancourt, Boyle, and Szatmari (2007) said of the generally widespread disorders,
oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is among the most common in childhood. Oppositional
behaviors have a tendency to weaken as children grow up, these behaviors are demonstrated by
the majority of children at an early age sometimes progressing into the predictable fits of temper
and violent behaviors (Mireault, Rooney, Kouwenhoven, and Hannan, 2008). The Diagnostic and
Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders (DSM) defines ODD as a model of childhood manners
that are harsh, critical, hurtful and uncooperative for at least six months and these manners are
serious enough that the conduct messes up the child s performance on a regular basis. The DSM
III launched ODD as an isolated analysis (as cited in APA, 1980).
The (Pardini, Frick, and Moffitt, 2010) diagnosis of ODD corresponds to a continual pattern of
antisocial, hostile, defiant, and disobedient behaviors toward others (as cited in APA, 2000). As
a (Joyce and Oakland, 2005) collective group between 2% and 16% of children have a diagnosis
of ODD (APA, 2000). While this proportionate number of students is minute, this particular group
s behavior can have an immense bearing on their friends and their individual success in school
(Joyce and Goodman, 2005). The (Pardini et al., 2010) original diagnosis of ODD requires

Use Of Pathos In Timbuktu
Some point in our lives we get lost and search for destiny and hope. This lost can be a search for
identity, emotions or decisions. Yet, some people find their paths out while others get more lost
as days and years pass. But, do we really find a path out to success and security? Maybe we will
always be lost or even born lost. The novelTimbuktu by Paul Auster introduces a long journey of a
dog that is searching for a path out of his loss of his owner and identity. The author uses literary
elements such as conflict, pathos and characterization that creates mood of loneliness, need of

Pathos plays an important role in Paul Auster s common writing techniques. Use of pathos
creates a connection between the audience and Mr. Bones. When Auster specifically describes,
He almost felt sorry about it now. He had left his master behind (Auster 85). As stated by Auster,
the audience forms sympathy toward Mr. Bones. For example looking specifically at the diction
of left and sorry the author creates a mood of sorrow and sadness. Which makes the usage of
specific words remarkable among the readers. Not only does it contribute to the conflict this
creates a characterization of Mr. Bones. By this point of the novel Mr. Bones evolved from
inferior personality to Willy s reality to an individual who is independent and willing to take
risks. In order to find his identity Mr. Bones had to make a decision that he may later regret. But,
sometimes in order to find the right way out we have to make decisions even if we know the
outcome or not. In order to find the right reality, we sometimes have to give the things we value
or what we think maybe true. Sacrifice is one of the ways to find the right path. Mr. Bones took
the sacrifice of leaving Willy in order to find the reality that would make him who he really is.

bravery and willing to take risks. This creates a internal conflict for

The Gospel Of John And The Writing Of His Gospel
Reading through the Gospel of John can bring up many questions about the fourth canonical
book and the writing of his gospel. Some of those questions have answers and some do not. In
this essay we will take a look at some of them that has biblical answers. The first question is did
John write the gospel bearing his name? Second, who was the audience that he was writing to?
Third, what was the purpose of John writing the gospel?
Did John write the gospel bearing his name? In the gospel of John it never provides the name of the
author. There are no other indications in the bible either. There are two important factors that tell us
that John is the author. In the Gospel of John it identifies the author as the disciple whom Jesus
loved. This likely pointed to John and there are three reasons. First, John was one of the twelve
disciples, he was a witness of the actual events (John 21:14). He was part of the inner circle of
the disciples because Mary told him first of the resurrection (John 20:1 10). John was
distinguished from others in the book. The Gospel of John was discovered around AD 135.
However, some scholars think that it was written (AD 70) when Jerusalem was destroyed. This
writer believes that AD 85 90 is the more accepted time for the writing of the Gospel of John.
Who was the audience that he was writing to? John was writing to the church, I believe that he was
also writing to the people who did not believe. John focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. The

researching on the Internet or in books, there could be many meanings for one thing. This is why
it is important to check the reliability of a source, and that is what I believe has helped me most.
One other important thing I have learned from this research paper is how to accurately use
parenthetical documentation, as well as setting up my Works Cited page. I think this will aid me in

The Effect Of Color On Testing Results
The Effect of Color on Testing Results Introduction Our experiment focused on testing scores.
We wanted to see whether the color of ink that was used on a test would affect a student s
performance on that test. We chose to conduct this experiment in the Sterling C. Evans Library to
get a wide variety of students to take the tests since it is the largest and most central library on
campus. We felt that this way the best way to attempt to limit the other variables that could affect
our results. Our hypothesis was that red ink would cause that student to do more poorly on the test
than the student would have done on a test with black ink. Our theory was that red ink would
remind students of wrong answers on previous assignments and create a feeling of stress and
anxiety. We attempted to answer this question by giving students of various genders, majors, and
ages a test of medium difficulty in red and black ink and analyzing the data to find out if their
scores correlated with the ink color. In order to determine whether there was a correlation between
ink colors and test scores, we measured the students number of wrong answers on the test, time
taken on the test, stress level, age, classification, gender, GPA, and college. We chose these
measures because they yielded numerical values that could be statistically assessed, and they
account for any other variables that might play into the correlation. We measured our results using
descriptive statistics, using numbers to

How To Write A Letter To Leonato
Hello friend! I ve been staying with Leonato these past few weeks. You would nt believe what s
been going on recently.A few weeks back, I arrived to Messina along with Claudio, Benedict, and
my brother, Don John.Afterwards, Claudio approached me, and began talking to me about his love
for the beautiful Hero, telling me he was nervous to confess his loveto her. But, there was a ball to
be held that night, in which I planned to wear a disguise and woo Hero, while pretending to be
Claudio. That night during the masquerade ball, I went up to Hero and told her my wonderful and
compelling feelings for her.She then took my hand in marriageand I began to look for
Claudio. When I found him, I willingly gave Hero to him.The two lovers accepted each other, and
Leonato agreed to the marriage.Later that night, I had come up with an idea.I would come up with
a new plan to deceive Benedict and Beatrice into falling in love with each other!

Philip Randolph s The Messenger
Born on April 15th 1889 in Crescent City, Florida Philip Randolph was the second son of James
and Elizabeth Randolph. Both of his parents were strong supporters of equal rights for African
American. When Philip was two years old his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he
lived for most of his teenage life. Young Philip had a close relationship with his older brother
William. He used to play role playing games with his brother where they would advocate for Rights
of African American. Randolph attended Cookman Institute one of the most prominent institute for
higher education for blacks in the country. In 1911 Philip moved to New York where he attended a

Green. Around this time Randolph joined the socialist party. In 1917 during World War 1
Randolph and Chandler Owen founded a political magazine, The Messenger. In which they
published articles which demanded inclusion of more blacks in the armed forces and the war
industry, and higher wages. They felt that everyone despite the color of their skin should be
treated equally. The Messenger in current time is now thought of as one of the most brilliantly
written works in African American journalism. At this time Randolph tried to unionize African
American shipyard workers in Virginia and elevator operators in New York City. In 1920 1922
he unsuccessfully ran for offices in New York State on the Socialist Party Ticket. When Philip
realized that he didn t get elected he refused to be sad and got right back up to fight for the cause.
Philip used the experience and knowledge that came with the loss to better himself, so he could be
more effective in his fight for equal rights of African Americans. By this time Randolph was more
than convinced that full integration of black workers into the American trade union and creating
new unions for Blacks was the best way to improve their working

  • 3. The Colonization Of The Algonquins In North India Port Royal was the first post under the control of the Catholic French colony of Acadia. From this location the French were able to impact northeast Canada and America to the Great Lakes and down the Mississippi River. The French came into contact with many different tribes. One of the most powerful and diverse groups was the Algonquins. They were composed of many different groups. The French successfully interacted with the Abenaki, who were part of the Algonquin. They lived in settled villages with cultivated land for farms and were peaceable. Father Peter Biard helped with the care of the Native Americans in this area. With great difficulty Father Biard landed at Port Royal and set his mind to learning the language of the surrounding tribes. However, he was not highly welcomed by the French in the area and struggled for the basic necessities to even survive, which caused him to move to a different location. He turned his attention to the Kennebec River and soon planted the cross and gave it the name of the Holy Saviour. While the mission was being established he ventured into the interior. Father Biard heard crying which was from a sick little Indian boy. He rushed to baptize the boy before he died with the permission of his father. He then prayed to the Great Father to save the boy, which happened. Father Biard by this wonder of saving the boy gained their interest and attention. However, the mission was destroyed. It was not until the Franciscans came into the area later when they established a new mission by the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. Patience was a key factor in the missions as they had to deal with many obstacles and barriers to overcome. Father Paul Le Jeune writes about this struggle, If you wish to converse, in order to instruct them, it will sometimes be necessary to wait whole hours before finding opportunity to say to them at the right time one profitable word; and after all your pains and your visits, a dream, which is, properly speaking, the God of the country, will undo more in one night than you will have accomplished in thirty days; and you may, indeed, as your sole reward, get a stroke from the hatchet or arrow (FPL 4) The French continued to contribute to the settlement of ... • 4. Agent Of National Policy Essay The agents of the National Policy The National Policy was the initiative of MacDonald s government. It was designed to secure the Canadian extension to the western territories for the future settlement and land exploration. The establishment of the NWMP coincided with the implementation of the policy and subsequently the first federal agency embraced a vast range of functions to assure its successful realization. At the beginning of their work the police gave the priority to the Aboriginal issue that included moving bands to the reserves and sustain peaceful relations with them. When this step was accomplished the safeguarding of the construction of the CPR, surveillance of the working personal with the purpose of riot prevention, detection of alcohol and prevention of disorder were assigned to the NWMP. Finally when the railroad was built and the flow of new settlers contributed to the rapid exploration and assimilation of new territories, the responsibilities of the police changed respectively. An organization, with a effective management, should try to implement its plans without signaling the fact to its competitors.[3] In order for a policy to work, there must be a level of consistency from every person in an organization, including from the management. This is what needs to occur on the tactical level of management as well as strategic. Strategy evaluation Measuring the effectiveness of the organizational strategy, it s extremely important to conduct a SWOT analysis to figure out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (both internal and external) of the entity in question. This may require to take certain precautionary measures or even to change the entire strategy. In corporate strategy, Johnson and Scholes present a model in which strategic options are evaluated against three key success criteria: Suitability (would it work?) Feasibility (can it be made to work?) Acceptability (will they work it?) [Suitability Suitability deals with the overall rationale of the strategy. The key point to consider is whether the strategy would address the key strategic issues underlined by the organisation s strategic position. Does it make economic sense? Would the organisation obtain economies of scale, economies of scope or experience economy? Would it be suitable in terms of environment and capabilities? • 6. Essay on The Factors Involved in Scientific Revolutions In the mid sixteenth century, the world took on a revolution of a new kind. Following centuries of religious and political unrest, countless wars, and the infamous Black Death, which ravaged through nearly one third of the European population, Nicolaus Copernicus set off the Scientific Revolution in 1543 with his publication of De revolutionibus orbium coelestium. However, this revolution would not be restricted to only the sciences, but it would forever change the global landscape in every aspect of life. • 9. Robert Lee Frost Analysis Robert Lee Frost was conceived in San Francisco, March 26. He was one of America s premier twentieth century writers and won the Pulitzer Prize four times. In spite of the fact that his verse shapes are old style, he was an innovator in the interaction of meter and rhyme and in the wonderful utilization of the vocabulary and emphases of how everybody speaks today. His work is full of nature and is very touching. Two of Robert Lee Frosts supreme and popular poems that I will be working with are The Road Not Taken and Stopping by Woods on A Snowy Evening . In the poems Road not taken and Stopping by woods on a snowy evening Robert Frostexplains that both depict how to take choices in life a circumstance where he needs to pick between two ways in that will affect his life forever. In The Road Not Taken the writer in the sonnet is voyaging and comes at the spot from where the road is isolated into two. Here he needs to choose which way he needs to go for eventual fate of his life. The goals of both pathways are obscure. Yet, the poet needs to pick one of them as he can t choose both roads at once. Utilizing yellow wood (line 1) as a representative signal to seniority moving toward quick, his definitive decision will endure for what he will have to live with for the rest of his life. Moving toward older age comes with the acknowledgment of the truth, it s an ideal opportunity to say goodbye to dreams and expectations. Then took the other, as just as fair and having perhaps the better claim (line 6 7). The poet appears to be indecisive here. But, he has settled on a choice, he is still constantly thinking about it. On the outline, both roads strike as comparative, with no apparent difference. As a result, his absence of activity and uncertainty causes him enormous distress and delay. Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back (line 14 15). The poet endeavors to persuade himself with little achievement, verging on daydreaming. He induces himself that if one road ends up being unsatisfactory, he would have the capacity to offer reparation and pick the other road. In any case, looking back, he s completely mindful that his decision will impact him in his later years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Discuss And Understanding Buffer Solutions INTRODUCTION This assignment is going to be discussing and understanding Buffer solutions. The basic principles will be looked at in order to go into more depth to understand the biological importance of buffer solutions and how these solutions are produced as well as how the body is affected by this and the adjustments made. This extended research task is being conducted to fully understand the use and main reasons that buffers exist, not just for environmental reasons but also for biochemical reasons. The scenario that will be looked at is the buffering system inside the human body; the human body needs buffers in order to stabilize the pH levels to keep everything functioning properly. A buffer is an aqueous solution that has a generally stable pH level; this means that it can resist pH changes when small quantities of either an acid or a base are added to that specific buffer solution. However, each specific buffer has a buffer capacity; this is the amount of an acid or base that can be added to the buffer solution before the pH dramatically begins to change. However in some cases it can also be defined as the amount of a strong acid or base that must be added in order to change the pH levels of one litre of solution by one pH unit. The buffer solution is a result from a weak acid and conjugate base to form the salt of that acid/ionic compound and water. For a buffer to occur there needs to be equal numbers of moles for the acid with the hydrogen ions and the base ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Archetype Analysis There are a number of many different archetypes found in works of fiction and nonfiction that bestow upon the hero his true role in a work of literature. In the Middle English, chivalric romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain s role as the hero emboldens as the story describes more and more archetypes of the quest. The monomyth can be described as the three step process that the hero takes in completing the quest motif. The basic template is supported by separation, initiation, and return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth (Campbell 28). Each of these three categories contain other subcategories, which help understand the different archetypical situation within the work itself. An understanding of three key archetypes the magic weapon, the boon, and the unhealable wound reveal the essence of Gawain s role within the archetypal quest motif. The magic weapon in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the the green girdle. The green girdle was bestowed upon Gawain by the host s wife. However, as the story concludes we soon find out that this young lady ends up being the Green Knight s wife. The green girdle symbolizes safeness or a value of being safe. Between there meeting the young lady explains, For whatever Knight is girded with this green lace, while he bears it knotted about him there is no man under heaven can overcome him, for he may not be slain for any magic on earth (Weston 31). The young lady gives Gawain the green girdle after he refuses to take the ring that is offered to him. Since Gawain fails to exchange the girdle with Bertilak as the terms of the men s agreement dictate, it also symbolizes Gawain s desperate desire to survive at the expense of his code of honor. Only after Gawain fails the Green Knight s test does this meaning become clear to him. With the power of the green girdle by his side and his mind set forth on his destiny, Gawain heads out with the guide to find the Green Knight. About half way through the ride the guide asks Gawain whether he would decide to slide out of his scenario with the Green Knight. As they reach the border of the forest, the guide promises not to tell anyone if Gawain decides to give up the quest. Gawain refuses, determined to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Homeschooling Advantages Is homeschooling the better option? Sure, it may not be for everyone. Maybe the disadvantages intimidate you. However, each decision we make, as parents, has at least one disadvantage. We must decide whether the advantages outweigh the cost. Therefore, before you jump to conclusions, let s take into consideration some of the benefits homeschoolingcan offer. Homeschooling is more cost effective. Homeschooling provides many benefits such as the elimination of bullying, better test scores, children can work at their own pace, and families have more time together. Homeschooling is more cost effective than sending children to public schools. In my area for students who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch, the price for each school year, per child, is $423 based on a 180 day school year. School supplies aren t cheap; according to the article Mommy Edition, schools usually send home a list of mandatory supplies that will be kept at the end of the year (2017). The cost of school pictures and year books can be anywhere between $25 and $100 per child. Then there are activities such as sports, clubs, and field trips. My parents despised the day I brought home a fundraiser packet. Public schools push this on parents because children see the prizes not the prices. One year I sold candy for a school fundraiser. My brother and I ended up eating more than I sold, and this left my parents having to pay $156 for what was missing. Otherwise, my grade card would have been withheld. ... Implication of Costume Design Choices in Staging Marlowe s Doctor Faustus An effective costume engages the audience s attention and enhances the production and the actor s performance: (1) it visually defines and supports the character developed by the actor, and (2) it helps establish the overall theme and mood of the production as interpreted by the director. An effective costume speaks to the audience s subconscious store of knowledge and experience, helping them to identify the individual characters even before they speak and even if they are silent. The Magic Garment (Cunningham 2) The most first and most important step in designing costumes for a show is to discuss the overall artistic vision of the show with the director. Interpretation of the text and the resulting goal of the production will guide the artistic design of the show, from the set and costumes to props and acting. Eleanor Fuchs essay EF s Visit to a Small Planet: Or Some Questions to Ask of a Play provides an analytical framework that can be applied to any play to help determine the nature of this interpretation. When this framework is applied to Marlowe s The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, it is possible to consider how design elements, such as costumes, might change the overall audience interpretation of the play. The United States did just this in 1898, when they annexed the Philippines. The Filipino people had been fighting for their independence against Spain for many years before the US intervened. The rebels, led by Emilio Aguinaldo, were grateful for the assistance. The Filipino people thought that the US had come to help free them from Spain. Unfortunately for the Filipino people, they were incorrect. On February 6, 1899, the United States of America annexed the Philippines, much to the disgust of the rebels in the Philippines and many people in America (including Mark Twain, Andrew Carnegie, and former President Grover Cleveland.) Chernobyl is a small town in the Ukraine. The closest major city is Kiev. Kiev is the capital of the Ukraine. It is made up of 2.4 million people. In 1986 April 26 Chernobyl experienced an unforgettable nuclear disaster. At the time, the USSR was responsible for roughly 10% of the world s nuclear power. The main weakness was in shutting the reactor down. As a result of inadequacy the shutdown rods are part of the normal plant control system rather than being a separate emergency system. Again a fault in the control system also makes the emergency shutdown unable to function. Another weakness was that Chernobyl had only partial containment. Because of the partial containment the radiation went out the top of the reactor where there were no leak tight boxes. The hot fuel and graphite were exposed to air when they went out the top of the reactor. If there had been a completed containment, then the water and steam from the broken pipes would have dissolved almost all of the cesium and radioactive iodine that escaped. Even if the containment leaked the cesium and the iodine would not get out. Because the hot fuel and graphite were exposed to air this chemical reaction did occur. The operators had removed all of the control rods except for six. This action is against procedures. It is not safe for any reactor to operate with so many control rods removed. Besides the RBMK reactor was not designed to operate at such low power. The power generators of this reactor were run by steam forced through turbines. By the time the reactor exploded none of the turbines were turning and all of the steam was building. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Gender Roles For Females And Females Essay Introduction: In American society, social norms have created distinct gender roles for males and females. These gender roles attribute specific traits and behaviors to each sex that has influenced the way women and men tend to act, think, and behave towards one another. Specifically, these gender roles not only affect helping behavior as the type of help that is given, but also, the help received can depend on the sex of an individual (Eagly and Crawley, 1986). According to stereotype studies done by Bern (1974), Ruble (1983) and Spence and Helmreich (1978) women are seen as more helpful, kind and compassionate compared to men. ((Eagly and Crawley, 1986). Along with these traits comes the belief that women are more sympathetic and empathetic in terms of helping behavior (Eagly and Crawley, 1986). Because of these characteristics, women are expected to provide a nurturing help that mirrors the role of a caretaker as they are expected to provide a deeper emotional and long term commitment help to the individual in need. The male gender role describes masculinity as daring, chivalrous and heroic (Eagly and Crawley, 1986). These traits lead to the expectation of a different type of helping behavior from men, one that is not long term but more unexpected and brave, such as, saving a life. Along with heroic helpfulness comes the act of chivalry. As the male gender roleportrays men as the stronger sex due to their physical capabilities, there is an expectation that they will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boylan, Vaillancourt, Boyle, and Szatmari (2007) said of the generally widespread disorders, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) is among the most common in childhood. Oppositional behaviors have a tendency to weaken as children grow up, these behaviors are demonstrated by the majority of children at an early age sometimes progressing into the predictable fits of temper and violent behaviors (Mireault, Rooney, Kouwenhoven, and Hannan, 2008). The Diagnostic and Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders (DSM) defines ODD as a model of childhood manners that are harsh, critical, hurtful and uncooperative for at least six months and these manners are serious enough that the conduct messes up the child s performance on a regular basis. The DSM III launched ODD as an isolated analysis (as cited in APA, 1980). The (Pardini, Frick, and Moffitt, 2010) diagnosis of ODD corresponds to a continual pattern of antisocial, hostile, defiant, and disobedient behaviors toward others (as cited in APA, 2000). As a (Joyce and Oakland, 2005) collective group between 2% and 16% of children have a diagnosis of ODD (APA, 2000). While this proportionate number of students is minute, this particular group s behavior can have an immense bearing on their friends and their individual success in school (Joyce and Goodman, 2005). Pathos plays an important role in Paul Auster s common writing techniques. Use of pathos creates a connection between the audience and Mr. Bones. When Auster specifically describes, He almost felt sorry about it now. He had left his master behind (Auster 85). As stated by Auster, the audience forms sympathy toward Mr. Bones. For example looking specifically at the diction of left and sorry the author creates a mood of sorrow and sadness. Which makes the usage of specific words remarkable among the readers. Not only does it contribute to the conflict this creates a characterization of Mr. Bones. By this point of the novel Mr. Bones evolved from inferior personality to Willy s reality to an individual who is independent and willing to take risks. In order to find his identity Mr. Bones had to make a decision that he may later regret. But, sometimes in order to find the right way out we have to make decisions even if we know the outcome or not. Some of those questions have answers and some do not. In this essay we will take a look at some of them that has biblical answers. The first question is did John write the gospel bearing his name? Second, who was the audience that he was writing to? Third, what was the purpose of John writing the gospel? Did John write the gospel bearing his name? In the gospel of John it never provides the name of the author. There are no other indications in the bible either. There are two important factors that tell us that John is the author. In the Gospel of John it identifies the author as the disciple whom Jesus loved. This likely pointed to John and there are three reasons. First, John was one of the twelve disciples, he was a witness of the actual events (John 21:14). He was part of the inner circle of the disciples because Mary told him first of the resurrection (John 20:1 10). John was distinguished from others in the book. The Gospel of John was discovered around AD 135. However, some scholars think that it was written (AD 70) when Jerusalem was destroyed. This writer believes that AD 85 90 is the more accepted time for the writing of the Gospel of John. Who was the audience that he was writing to? John was writing to the church, I believe that he was also writing to the people who did not believe. John focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We wanted to see whether the color of ink that was used on a test would affect a student s performance on that test. We chose to conduct this experiment in the Sterling C. Evans Library to get a wide variety of students to take the tests since it is the largest and most central library on campus. We felt that this way the best way to attempt to limit the other variables that could affect our results. Our hypothesis was that red ink would cause that student to do more poorly on the test than the student would have done on a test with black ink. Our theory was that red ink would remind students of wrong answers on previous assignments and create a feeling of stress and anxiety. We attempted to answer this question by giving students of various genders, majors, and ages a test of medium difficulty in red and black ink and analyzing the data to find out if their scores correlated with the ink color. In order to determine whether there was a correlation between ink colors and test scores, we measured the students number of wrong answers on the test, time taken on the test, stress level, age, classification, gender, GPA, and college. We chose these measures because they yielded numerical values that could be statistically assessed, and they account for any other variables that might play into the correlation.
