A Short Walk On The Twilight
River stood interrupting Cinder s thoughts he announced, I do believe it s time to show Cinder the
underground clubs. They all agreed and stood to don their coats.
As they exited the building, River took a deep breath and glanced around at the night sky. The
temperature has risen, and I do enjoy the twilight only Russia can provide. How is everyone for a
short walk to the tunnel? Everyone glanced at Cinder, as the only mostly human she would be the one
to decide if she could handle the cold. I would love a walk in the twilight. Cinder did her best to smile
she wanted to enjoy tonight.
It was a very short walk, before they were entering a railroad tunnel; Cinder thought as short cuts went
it was rather dangerous. Hey guys, why are we walking into a railroad tunnel what if a train comes?
Cinder had Tazzy tucked under her arm covered by her coat when he popped his head out and
explained. This is not for trains; if you look closely you will see there are no tracks.
Cinder used her boot to clear away the snow in front of her as she walked closer to the entrance, and
found he was right there were no train tracks.
Shadow revealed, Once inside the tunnel, the lights will start to come on lighting our path until we
reach the stairs leading down. Then the lamplights from the underground area will light our way. You
will see that there are sidewalks lining the fronts of the clubs, along with a few restaurants, and coffee
houses. I do believe there is even a building that

Personal Reflection Of A Personal Experience At Multimension
The company I interned for this semester was MultiMension. It is a company founded and run by my
intern supervisor, Julie Hyunjoo Lee. MultiMension is an E learning company that produces digital
media tools for the various instructional needs of customers. These tools come in the form of online
courses, infographics, animations, and interactive tutorials that are tailors to target audiences. The
company has also been involved in mobile application design and development. They recently
released a new meal planner application, called Nuttri. This is the product I worked exclusively with
during my internship this semester.
Nuttri is a baby meal planner application for apple and android mobile devices. It is currently designed
for parents of infants who are between 4 to 24 months. The application provides information on
different foods and nutrients that parents can use to make decisions on what and how parents plan for
their baby s meals. The meals can be planned in the app calendar, with the ability to record the child s
opinion of the meal after. Information on seasonality and preparation of ingredients help parents to
prepare the right meals for a child during different periods of development. Addition information and
scientific references are available on the website for the Nuttri application to allow parents to learn
more on infant nutrition and development. My main role in the development of the Nuttri application
was a research intern. My majors are Human Biology and

The Rise Of The Papacy
The Rise of the Papacy
Introduction
The birth or the beginnings of the Papacy is a rather difficult task to really nail down to a specific
time, place or person and also the growth of the Papacy was a rather slow and gradual process. In this
modern age Rome has been associated with the birth place of the Papacy but history shows that
Constantine moved the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople in the 4th century. In
Constantinople the father of the church was referred to as the Pope. The word Pope simply means
father, and in early times was used to refer to any important and respected bishop. In Rome the father
of the church was referred to as the Bishop of Rome. It is the purpose of this paper to present evidence
of the individuals that gave rise to the Papacy in the centuries between the 6th and 9th.
How and Why the Papacy in Rome became the Center of Power There are several contributing factors
that prompted the rise of the Papacy during the time name mentioned above, but the one event that
prompted this rise was the fall of the Roman Empire. When Rome was attacked by the Lombards, the
Goths and the Huns it left a trail of destruction and uncertainty. Also during this time Christian
heresies were running rampant throughout the state. The effort of Constantine and Roman Church
leaders is when the Papacy really started to gain ground and the rise to power. As historical evidence
has shown, Constantine relocated the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople

Hurricane Katrina Duties
The failures of government response to Hurricane Katrina was a result of the aggregation of the local
and federal governments lacking proper communication with each other, the levels of government not
fulfilling their duties in a state of emergency, and the lack of personal responsibility that each level of
government took upon themselves in the crisis. On a local level, Mayor Ray Nagin did not mobilize
evacuation via bussing, nor did he ensure that adequate amounts of food and water were stocked in
shelters, despite these both being primarily mayoral duties in a state of emergency. Former FEMA
director Michael Brown accused Mayor Nagin of not having enough of a sense of urgency in the
situation, thus causing a delay in aid to New Orleans.
Federally, FEMA s execution of its duties was entirely lacking, mostly due to poor leadership and a
deficiency of action by former FEMA director Michael Brown. Brown did not carry out his duties
before Katrina s landfall of having to direct personnel and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For future disasters, there needs to be more communication between different levels of government.
Federal and local governments should work together to carry out the tasks they are legally assigned to.
Rather than levels of government blaming each other for being irresponsible, they should work
together and delegate tasks to help as many people as possible in an efficient manner. There needs to
be significantly more effective leadership as well. Poor leadership was detrimental to FEMA s
practices during Hurricane Katrina. Preparedness is also essential in future disasters. FEMA was
shown to be unprepared for Katrina s landfall because of their incompletion of the Hurricane Pam
project. Strategies to evacuate residents and choices on how to distribute medical care were undecided
on, which is something that could have been avoided with proper and thorough

Analysis Of The Movie Infamy
Infamy: The Shocking Story of the Japanese American Internment in World War II
On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Imperial Japan. Soon after the attack, hundreds
of Japanese Americans were being arrested across the country. Within ten weeks President Franklin D.
Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the detention of the American Japanese. The
author Richard Reeves, is a Senior Lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication at the
University of Southern California. He was educated as a mechanical engineer, and he began his
journalism career at the age of 23. He has fifteen publications, six films, and has received thirteen
awards. The book has an image of Japanese children with the look of sorrow and a suitcase for the
background of the book cover. In the center of the book there is a huge, vibrant red circle that contains
the title in bold black letters which captures the viewer s eyes. The title Infamy, meaning the state of
being well known for some bad quality or deed makes one s curiosity wonder why the author would
title a book like this that has Japanese children on it. Richard Reeves proves to know how to inform
people of American history considering all the awards, and ratings he has received for his works.
Immediately after the attack many Japanese newspapers in the United States were delivering patriotic
words towards America but that did not stop the hundreds of Japanese Americans being arrested. Less
than twenty four hours after

Cause And Effect Of Hurricane Katrina
Nature has thrashed the earth long before humans came to be. Volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, and
hurricanes are by far some of the most destructive and devastating occurrences on the face of the
planet. To illustrate, Hurricane Katrina came upon United States land in August of 2005. The states of
Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and of course Louisiana (CNN Library, 2014) took a hard
beating as Hurricane Katrina s winds sustained at 155 miles per hour alongside a storm surge over
twenty feet high (National Geographic, 2005). New Orleans, Louisiana, averaging between one and
two feet below sea level in elevation (Google, n.d.), experienced the full force of Hurricane Katrina as
the hurricane s center arced toward the city. Levees were in place to hinder the influx of ocean waters,
yet could not stay strong as Hurricane Katrina pounded against the barriers. The hurricane approached
the Gulf Region as a category 5 and made landfall as a category 3 hurricane (History.com Staff, 2009).
When the hurricane passed twelve hours later, all that was left was destruction. New Orleans was the
city to be dealt the most damage. Over eighty percent of the city was left underwater from Hurricane
Katrina (Nguyen, 2007). About seventy percent of occupied housing was taken by the hurricane (CNN
Library, 2014). The population of New Orleans dropped from 484,674 in April of 2000 to 230,172 in
July of 2006 (CNN Library, 2014). The hurricane s total damages were estimated at about 125

Abstract
Hezbollah (Arabic for Party of God ) is an umbrella organization of various radical Islamic Shi ite
groups and organizations which receives substantial financial and philosophical support from Iran.
Hezbollah s formation was a direct response to Israel s 1982 invasion of Lebanon designed to
eliminate the Palestinian Liberation Organization s base of operations. Hezbollah s stated objectives
include the establishment of a Shiite theocracy in Lebanon, the destruction of Israel, and the
elimination of Western influences from the Middle East.

The Jungle by Upton Sinclari Jr.
Upton Sinclair was a well known novelist from California. He and two other journalists, Ida Tarbell
and Lincoln Steffens, were pioneers of a different kind of journalism known as muckraking. He was
best known for his novel, The Jungle, published in 1906. The novel uncovered the unfair and
unsanitary conditions of the Chicago meat packing industry. In 1904, the editor of the socialist journal,
Appeal to Reason, Fred Warren, gave Sinclair the permission to write a novel about immigrant
workers in the Chicago meat packing houses. The owner of the journal, Julius Wayland, gave Sinclair
a $500 advance to do research for The Jungle. The Jungle was a fictional booked about a young man
named, Jurgis Rudkis, who got a job as a gut shoveler at Durham meat packing house, which was
Armour in reality. In The Jungle, Upton Sinclair also spoke about the filthiness of the packing houses.
Rotten meat was covered in chemicals to hide the smell; rats climbed all over the warehouse, and left
over animal parts were packaged as head cheese, used for fertilizer and even used as soap. Jurgis
worked with people who had skin diseases, people who were always losing fingers as a result of the
assembly line moving so fast, and people who constantly coughed spreading their germs all over the
meat. There were few toilets, and no soap nor clean water to wash their hands with. These working
conditions were unacceptable. Armour, Swift, and Morris were the three companies that dominated the

Forbidden s No Triangle-Love
At first Forbidden seem to be another typical young adult paranormal romance, with the mysterious

Poetic Techniques Used In Barter
Life is worth living, so live another day The meaning of forgiveness People make mistakes, doesn t
mean you have to give in Life is worth living again (Bieber lines 19 22) These song lyrics convey how
there are many poetic devices in Life is Worth Living . These lyrics show examples of symbolism,
repetition, and mood. Life is Worth Living has more poetic devices than the poem, Barter , which
makes the song lyrics more artistic through the use of metaphors, allusions, symbolism, alliteration,
hyperboles, mood, and repetition. Life is Worth Living uses many examples of repetition. One
example of repetition is in the lines, Life is worth living, so live another day The meaning of

The poem, Barter also uses repetition. Sara Teasdale incorporates this poetic device into her poem in
the lines, Life has loveliness to sell, (Teasdale lines 1, 7). Teasdale repeats this line because it is the
overall theme and message to the poem. This line is what she wants the reader to get out of the poem.
Overall, both the song and poem show examples of repetition. In both texts, the authors use many
symbols in their lyrics and words. In Life is Worth Living , Justin Bieber uses many symbols to
describe the message of the song. One example of that would be the lines, Said it ain t over / Oh, even
in the midst of doubt / Life is worth living (Bieber lines 16 18). This is symbolism because it is
symbolizing how you should never give up, no matter what the situation is. In Barter , there are also
many symbols that make up the poem. One of them being, Spend all you have for

Existentialism In Mrs. Dalloway s Waiting For Godot
As a result of both World Wars, many who had been disillusioned by romanticized ideas of war were
shocked by the abrupt pain and loss they experienced. Due to the excruciating catastrophe of War,
people lost faith in religion and humanity and ultimately felt as though life lacked a meaningful
purpose. This pessimistic view of life brought upon the emergence of existentialism as a prominent
philosophical belief in society. Many Existentialists believed that our lives are ultimately meaningless
and that our existence is comprised entirely of our actions; we must acknowledge that our lives occur
while we are waiting for our inevitable deaths. Mrs. Dalloway and Waiting for Godot both exemplify
through their characters that human life and experiences are comprised of the small moments in which
we are collectively waiting for something. This idea of waiting for something is essential to the human
experience because many existentialists of the eras, in which these stories were written, ultimately
believe that a reality in which evils can occur, such as a World War, could not possibly have a caring
God and that our existence must be made up solely of the actions that are performed in the time spent
waiting, Becket would argue naively, for something to occur.
Mrs. Dalloway takes place in an England which was recovering from the ravishes of the first World
War. Following the war, many people began to lose faith in organized religion because they could not
fathom how an all loving and

The Inside A Long Corridor
I stared in wonder, inside was a long corridor, lit by a glowing light, to the left were weapon racks and

I was in love with the place already and determined it would be my home. Opening a locked door at

the bucket below. With that I unlocked the brake, within seconds the shaft moved against my crotch,

overwhelmed by ecstasy. As I moaned in bliss, my shapely breasts danced to the rhythm of the

The History Of Medgar Evers And The Civil Rights Movement
Revolution, a sudden, complete or marked change in something (Dictionary.com). The Civil Rights
Movement sparked a reaction in the country. The idea of allowing African Americans full rights and
privileges left white Americans to brutalize and discriminate. In 1954, Medgar Evers became the first
state field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi. He was a civil rights activist that fought to end the
racial injustice he experienced growing up in the South. (Biography.com). He was later murdered by a
member of the KKK, but died in the fight for freedom. It takes people to believe, to follow, and to
start a revolution.
Medgar Evers had a big role in the Civil Rights Movement. Evers also led demonstrations and
economic boycotts of white owned companies that practiced discrimination . He stimulated a drive in
others a part of NAACP to end intolerance and defeat injustice. (Biography.com). By Medgar and his
proposition, he showed other African Americans light through hatred. Evers fought against
discrimination to prove he can be just like the others. While he failed to gain admission to the law
school, Evers managed to raise his profile with the NAACP. After working with the NAACP, he
brought up a case to the Supreme Court Brown v. Board of Education case , which help end
segregation issues throughout schools. (Biography.com). Medgar Evers was part of the revolution to
end discrimination and injustice for all.
Under those circumstances, Evers life was sadly cut short.

The Brewing Co Of Michigan Breweries
Over the last 20 plus years, there has been a rapidly growing number of craft breweries in the United
States, including the State of Michigan. According to the official State of Michigan Pure Michigan
website (http://www.michigan.org/breweries/), The craft beer craze is sweeping Michigan, making it
fifth in the nation in the number of breweries, microbreweries and brewpubs. The Michigan Beer
Guide (2016), lists 259 different craft brewers in its current issue.
While there seem to be many success stories, there are also examples of Michigan breweries that have
gone out of business. According to Steven R. Reed (2013), Michigan Brewing Co. founder ... took the
Webberville company into bankruptcy this week, seven months after one of 300 plus creditors forced
the auction of his equipment along with brands that had developed a statewide following. As a
personal observer of this story during its unfolding, to casual appearances, this was a busy, successful
micro brewery. This micro brewery was one of the first in Michigan to take advantage of the growing
popularity of the niche, yet suffered an untimely end. Craft breweries can, obviously, fail like any
other business enterprise.
One of the reputed benefits which have allowed the new craft beer industry to grow and thrive is the
better profit margins possible for making beer and ale on premises. Business scholars Kleban
Nickerson (2011) have noted that Since 2006, the craft beer industry has been able to

How Is Rembrandt Portrayed In The Portrait Of A Musician
The man portrayed in Rembrandt s Portrait of a Musician (1633)
There are some art works about which there are ongoing discussions. One of those art works is
Portrait of a Musician , or Man with a Sheet of Music (1633), presumably by Rembrandt (1606 1669).
While some scholars believe the man portrayed in this portrait to be the German musician and
composer Heinrich Schütz, other theories about the identity of this man exist, too. One of those
theories, suggesting that the man portrayed is actually Constatijn Huygens, seems the most
convincing. The theory that the man portrayed in the portrait is Heinrich Schütz (1585 1672), a
German composer, was first suggested in 1937 by Bruno Maerker (Brook and Oja). He compared

Nevertheless, the argumentation would only be reliable if the painter of the portrait is truly
Rembrandt. In 1969, H. Gerson, a well known Rembrandt scholar, expressed his doubt that
Rembrandt painted the portrait, suggested that Rembrandt s pupil Jacob Backer painted the portrait
instead, and based his argument on details in the painting he believed showed that Rembrandt did not
paint it, for example the way how the painting of the hands was performed (Brook and Oja). He is not
the only scholar who has doubts. In his letter reacting to Hevesy s publication in 1936, J.S. Held
suggests that the music scroll must have been added later (Held). However, the legitimacy of the
portrait has been generally accepted. The website of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, where

Louis and many communities in between white mobs pursued what can only be described as a reign of
terror against African Americans during the period from 1917 to 1923. As Mr. Patrick stated this was
probably one of the worst if not the worst domestic act violence. Even today people do not have the
knowledge or refuse to believe what happened that day in 1921. The official death toll was 35(Patrick,
1999) but it is believed that many more hundreds were killed, because many bodies were dumped into
the river of coal mines or burned (Patrick, 1999). Here are other numbers that Mr. Patrick writes in his
article, 1500 African American homes destroyed, 600 businesses destroyed, 21 churches, 21
restaurants, 30 stores, 2 movie theaters, a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, and schools. It takes

The Between Female And Female Urinary System
Problem/Definition
Microbes such as bacteria, viruses, or fungi enter the urethra and can cause a urinary tract infection. A
UTI can occur in different parts of the urinary tract such as the kidneys, the ureter, the bladder or the
urethra. They are more common in woman than in men. This is due to the females having a shorter
urethra. According to Balentine (2015), about 40% of women and 12% of men will experience a UTI
in their lifetime (p.1). It is because of the anatomical and physiological differences between the male
and female urinary system that UTI s are more common in women.
Background
Different microbes that infect the lower and upper urinary tracts cause a urinary tract infection.
Depending on where the infection develops the severity varies. If a patient is experiencing discomfort
while urinating such as burning, lower abdominal cramping, constant need to urinate, incontinence,
nocturia, or feeling generally unwell and achy, they may be experiencing a lower UTI (Robinson,
2013). Despite all these symptoms, some patient s may not experience any. A lower UTI involves the
bladder and urethra (McIntosh, 2014). E. Coli, also known as Esherichia coli, lives in the bowel and
anus. The bacteria E. coli causes 90% of urinary tract infections (Balentine, 2015, para.2). It is
because the urethra and anus are positioned so close together on the female that wiping from back to
front can pull the bacteria from the anus into the urethra, infecting the area (Karriem Norwood,

to achieve in the Docklands. They were basically to improve the economic, social and physical aspects
of the area. To improve the economic aspect of the area, they had to create jobs for the unemployed
who were living in the Docklands. To do this, they had to bring in major companies. The LDDC
decided to provide a good infrastructure to the area. They provided the gas, electric and roads.
Transport was a main problem, so £600 million was spent on transport, and another £300 million on
just the Docklands Railway.
3. a) Many office buildings were built, including Canary Wharf. Large newspaper companies were
attracted to the Docklands, away from Fleet Street because of the new Canary Wharf building. This is
one of the tallest buildings in England, at 800ft high and boasting 50 stories. Companies were
attracted to Canary Wharf because of the quality of it with air conditioning, deep floors, and open
office space. Building space in London was short and expensive.

Essay about The Esssence of Rebirth and Death in Literature
The Essence of Rebirth and Death in Literature nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Literature has always
been a powerful way for people to express their ideas, opinions, and feelings. Authors often use
literature to depict aspects of society that can affect a man or woman s life. In the stories, The Horse
Dealer s Daughter, Life in the Iron Mills, Barbie Doll, and The Awakening the women of the stories
do not seem to adapt to societal expectations. The inadequacy of the women of these stories to meet
the view of society has lead to either a rebirth or ultimately a drive to suicide. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;

The second time was at the graveyard when he sees how tenderly Mabel cares for her mother s grave.
At the gravesite he immediately feels connected to her when their eyes meet. The third and most
important life altering encounter is at the pond when he sees Mabel immerse herself into the water to
drown herself. Detailed descriptions of how Dr. Ferguson slowly and carefully entered the cold, foul
smelling water were given. The cold being a metaphor for death. Meyers says, Lawrence describes, in
a series of o sounds, how the doctor slowly enters the world of the dead and restores her to life: The
cold water rose over his thighs, over his loins, upon his abdomen. The lower part of his body was all
sunk in hideous cold element. And the bottom was so deeply soft and uncertain, he was afraid of
pitching with his mouth underneath (928) (347). When he reaches her and drags her out of the water
he breathes into her mouth and before long she is breathing on her own. It is almost as if with a kiss he
awakens her; In this poignant passage Lawrence alludes not only to the awakening of an enchanted
princess in a fairy tale but also to three classical myths, Persephone s emergence from Hades in the
spring of each year, Orpheaf attempted rescue of Eurydice from the underworld, and Hercules
wrestling Alcestis from the arms of death (Meyers 348). Dr. Ferguson takes her from the water to dry

The intensified power struggle between oil companies and host governments in Middle East, along
with the oil price shocks that followed the 1973 oil crisis; meant British Petroleum lost most of its
direct access to crude oil supplies produced in countries that belonged to the Organization of
Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and prompted it to diversify its operations beyond the heavily

Fodo Baggins Archetypes
One of the most important archetypes is the hero. Without the hero, there is no story to be told. Heroes
can be found in every story and many times if you analyze the story you will find that there is more
than one hero. In The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, there are multiple heroes. The
obvious hero would be Frodo Baggins, because he is the main character and he has the undertaking of
destroying Sauron s ring, but there are others as well. Two others that stood out immensely are;
Gandalf The Grey and Aragorn (The Strider). They all performed many courageous and brave actions
to save their fellowship. Frodo, Gandalf and Aragorn all take part in destroying the ring that rules all,
to restore order.
Frodo Baggins was who the ring was passed onto. The one who was called upon to be the one to
obliterate the ring from existence. Events that took place throughout the major motion picture The
Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, made it very distinct that Frodo is the hero. When
the ring is brought to Rivendell, an argument develops that concerns who will take the ring to Mordor
to destroy it. Many people volunteered to take on this task but, none are accepted because their ...

ends up saving them. Aragorn takes them all to hide them while the ringwraiths are searching around
and if he would not have taken this precaution their journey would have been over before it even

Cleveland Cavaliers Controversy
According to ESPN NBA Senior Writer Ramona Shelburne, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver plans to
address the significant issue of teams resting players. Silver has informed all teams that this issue will
be a top priority in the NBA Board of Governors meeting on April 6th in New York. He also made it
clear that teams that don t abide by the league s rules there will be significant penalties.
The main team that have made this an ongoing issue at least as of late has been the Cleveland
Cavaliers. A couple days ago, the Cavaliers rested their big three of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and
Kevin Love against the Los Angeles Clippers. Both the general manager David Griffin and franchise
player James have made it known that some players indeed need the rest. Especially, if in the long run
the goal is a Championship. James, recently made the following statement that has caused quite a stir
of controversy:

It s easy for us as outsiders to criticize these players when we aren t partaking in the activity they are.
Then, you have former players from past eras weighing on this issue as well. Most recently, former

Obviously, the perception of the NBA in that particular era was tougher. One could argue they game is
much more fast paced today than ever. Which, it doesn t take a genius to make the inference that could
be a reason for the recent need for rest for so many of ours stars today.
In no way am I making excuses for these guys. I understand there are some people that may have a

Orlando s Theory Of The Deliberative Nursing Process
Critique Analysis This section presents an analysis of Orlando s theory. The central thesis of the
Theory of the Deliberative Nursing Process is finding out and meeting the patient s immediate need
for help. The concepts and propositions of the theory are written at a concrete level of discussion
(Fawcett, Desanto Madeya, 2013). The theory is classified as a middle range predicative theory. The
theory identifies the effects of a specific interpersonal nursing process on identification of the patient s
immediate need for help. origins. Ida Jean Orlando was born in 1929. She obtained her diploma in
nursing from New York Medical College, her Bachelor of Science in public health nursing from St.
John s University and Masters in mental health nursing at Columbia University (Current Nursing,
2013). She was an Associate Professor at Yale School of Nursing and Director of the Graduate
Program in Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing (Current Nursing, 2013). Orlando published her book
The Dynamic Nurse Patient Relationship in 1961. Orlando does not credit any theoretical sources in
the development of her theory (Necor, 2014, p. 5). She formulated the deliberative nursing process
from the considerable amount of data she recorded on nurse patient observations. She evaluated facts
from those observations to develop her theory. Orlando proclaimed that her theory is valid and applied
it in her work with patients and nurses and the teaching of students (Necor, 2014, p. 5). unique focus.

The Bills win the game over fellow AFC East team, the Jets by five points. They took advantage of
three field goals made by kicker Dan Carpenter, and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown to
win the game and further their chances at making the playoffs. On the other hand, the Jets are 1 3 in
their last four games. The two teams will play again this season, the next matchup will take place in
Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the Bills play, in the very last game of the regular season.

Theories Of Explaining Behavior Through Observation
Adolescent Psychology Term Paper
Jamila Williams
Tuskegee University
Behavioral psychology is based on the concept of explaining behavior through observation.
Behaviorists, psychologist that study behavior, believe a person can be understood through observing
their behavior. This school of psychology assumes that we are born as a blank state and everyone is
equal. However, environmental factors are what leads to us behaving differently from one another.
American Psychologist and Founder of Behaviorism John B. Watson studied the ultimate goal to
provide basis for prediction and control of human beings acquired through conditioning. Conditioning
occurs through interaction with the environment. Scientist strongly believe that individuals respond to
an environmental stimulus that shapes our actions. Russian Physiologist Ivan Pavlov and American
Psychologist and Behaviorist B. F. Skinner broke down conditioning into two types: classical
conditioning and operant conditioning.
Classical conditioning is a behavioral intervention technique by means of two stimuli being paired
together in a consistent pattern to result in the same behavioral response. Pavlov was looking at
salivation in dogs in response to being fed. His notion was that dogs can be taught to do certain things,
for example dogs salivating when they see food. Operant conditioning is a similar technique that aims
on the association between voluntary behavior and consequences. Skinner believed that subjects

Compare And Contrast The Secret Sorrow And A Secret Sorrow
Compare and Contrast: Works of Sorrow Good literature, although hard to define, is most times
determined by whether a particular literary work is able to make one think or feel. A Secret Sorrow
written by Karen van der Zee, and ¨A Sorrowful Woman,¨ written by Gail Godwin, are two pieces of
literature that are debatably good, by this definition. I personally believe that ¨A Sorrowful Woman¨
was the better of the two due to its realism and thought provoking plot. The first story, written by
Karen, is very stereotypical, the plot being somewhat predictable and the tone rather light. However,
the second story, written by Gail, is quite the opposite; it takes on a more realistic approach and holds
a darker tone. The stories are those that greatly contrast each other, their similarities almost completely
lost to the dramatically different plots and tones. Yet, three particular topics of interest within these
conflicting stories that have both differences and similarities are those of the female protagonists,
children, and the overall tone of each story. To start, between the two stories, the female protagonists
are the factors that differ the most due to the gender roles they accept. In A Secret Sorrow, Karen
writes her female character into a stereotypical role one would observe in any common fairy tale. The
woman, being much younger and smaller than her male partner, is described as being weak and
cowardly like an animal. The reader observes a lengthy portion of the story

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( Ptsd ) Essay
This paper focuses on women who are survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA) and today struggle with
a complex set of symptoms known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). For pastors who intend
to provide help, an integrated multidimensional treatment plan flows from a thorough assessment and
accurate diagnosis. Discussed herein are three treatment options including individual, group and
cognitive processing therapy and the integration of a Christian perspective regarding symptom
mitigation to assist in gaining a better understanding of redemptive care. Ashley is 60 years old. She is
the middle child of three sisters. Ashley reported that when she was growing up, her father abused her.
She was also abused by her sister in the way she was setting up situations for Ashley to be raped or
beaten. Ashley has great feelings of betrayal toward her father, mother, and sister. Her mother
confessed to Ashely that she caught her husband when he was sexually molesting her oldest daughter.
Ashley is angry that her mother did not stop the abuse, and she did not protect her and her sister.
Ultimately, Ashley is angry that her mother was dependent on her father, and she did not even consider
separating from him. Ashley reported feelings of entrapment, depression, anxiety, nightmares,
intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and helplessness and powerlessness as a child that led her to become
preoccupied with remaining in control of situations as an adult. (Karakurt Silver, 2014, p. 83)

Why Is Sociological Research Important
We know what we know because our parents and grandparents have thought us many things. The
traditions we follow were passed down from many generations. We trust them because they have
worked for many years. And people in the family or colony are still practicing those same traditions.
For example, when we have a wedding the bride always wears blue. It has been that way since the
Huterrites came to America, or the tradition could have come from even farther back. According to the
text Much of our knowledge us based on tradition, a handing down of statements, beliefs, and customs

Why Is Sociological Research Important in Our Everyday Lives? Cite Specific examples from your
own life in your response. We need it in our everyday lives because it helps us understand why people
do what they do. Like when we ask our minister if we can do something and he says no, then we have
to accept it and take no for an answer, trusting he had a good reason why he said no. Because he
always has a good reason when he says something. Sometimes he says no because he doesn t want us
to get hurt emotionally or physically, which we could. Sometimes we think adults don t let us do
things just to control us and to make our lives miserable, which I believe a lot. But do they really, or
are they just trying to teach us something because they made the same mistake. But I also think that
we all need to learn from our mistakes, as much as our parents love us they can t always teach us to do
something different because they made that mistake. We sometimes have to learn it on our own, our
parents have been through much more in life then we have, so they understand quite clearly what we
are going through. For example my sister and I really want a dog and my parents say NO every time
because they are afraid we won t take care of him or something like

Upside Of Irrationality
In The Upside of Irrationality, Dan Ariely aims to describe the irrational behaviors which a majority of
people experience on a daily basis. By first describing his experience as a third degree burn victim,
Ariely introduces himself and bases the first example of behavioral economics on himself. In an
unfortunate turn of events, Ariely acquired hepatitis C due to an infected blood transfusion during his
time in the hospital. In an attempt to get rid of it, he agreed to a very unpleasant experimental
treatment. However, being the only participant to follow the grueling treatment, it proved to be a
success. Even though most people would rather not face the negative immediate effect for the sake of
a positive long term effect, Ariely was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ariely first noticed this phenomenon when he built a toy chest for his child. Even though it consisted
of pre made supplies, he ended up valuing it more than any other similar piece of furniture in his
home. Upon calling his colleague, he realized that he wasn t the only one who experienced this pride
of creation. In the first study relating to this topic, Ariely looked back to pre made cakes. At first, they
included all of the products necessary to make the cake. As a result, many housewives were not
buying it. Later on, the manufacturer excluded several ingredients such as eggs, milk, and vegetable
oil. Now that only 70% of the cake was made, the housewives took more pride in using the cake mix,
since they felt that they were the ones that made it. In an attempt to prove this theory, Ariely made an
experiment whereby he would have a person make an origami figure, and then bid for it. On average,
the person who made the figure would pay five times more for their creation than a non creator would.
This proved that the creator viewed their own work with more loving

Analysis Of Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Everybody s good when they re good, darling. You don t judge a person by that. It s how they act
when things aren t good that tells you who they really are. ― Megan Jacobson (Goodreads, 56 Quotes
) Much like the world around us, literature has many elements that have the reader portray their own
understanding and perspective of it. In Sweat, Zora Neale Hurston gives the reader many different
situations where many readers can have several viewpoints. This seems to be very similar to the Bible,
where a child of God can read the same scripture as another and have a completely different meaning
in their eyes. Zora Hurston uses many elements that focus on the idea that actions one does speak
louder than words, by the use of religious imagery and Delia, the wife.
Sweat s narrator point of view is told in third person omniscient, meaning the narrator switches from
character to character constantly and does not restrict the reader to one character s perspective.
Hurston uses this element to introduce us to each of the characters daily life and their belief in
Christianity. Not only does it give us each character s standpoint, but also clarification of an outside
view and provide the reader with additional information and background of the married couple.
To begin the story, Hurston, with the use of the narrator being from third person omniscient,
introduces us to Delia as a wash woman who was working on a Sunday night all the way until eleven
o clock after church earlier in the

Relations Between Iran and US Essay
In 1979, protests erupted across the nation against the government of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
This was triggered by the domination of foreign policy, the exploitation of Iran s resources and wealth
by foreign firms, corruption and oppressive regime. The Shah s government s close ties with the
United States and Israel, his oppressive methods and his program of Westernization were unpopular
with the Iranian people. They therefore turned to the ulama as an alternative. Ayatollah Ruhollah
Khomeini, in exile in Paris, distributed cassette tapes of his speeches to many of the partakers in the
protests. The protests were eventually included under the umbrella of Shiite Islam. The Shah was
eventually overthrown and sent to exile. Ayatollah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The politicization of the concepts of Shi ism was first presented by Ayatollah Khomeini s concept of
velayat e faqih (the governance of jurisprudence). According to this concept, the Supreme Leader (vali
e faqih) is the legal leader of the Islamic community and, thus, he is equal to the imam. The velayat e
faqih has been the main principle of the Islamic Republic of Iran s political structure since the
revolution.
This Shiite component is a very important element of foreign policy as it is what forms Iranian
identity, along with Iranian nationalism. Shi ism is very different from Sunni Islam. It is infinitely
more religious and plays a much larger role in people s daily lives. It is because of this that even the
most secular of the political groups that partook in the revolution were still very much religious. After
the coup staged by the CIA against Mossadeq, who attempted to nationalize the oil industry, the
United States became highly unpopular with the Iranian people and was viewed as a counterforce to
Iranian nationalism. This strongly Shiite identity is also why the referendum resulted in the
establishment of an Islamic Republic. It is also important as it set one of Iran s major foreign policy
goals and has been a driving force for many of its strategic decisions in the region. Following the
establishment of the Islamic Republic, Iran severed ties with Israel, a far cry from what relations had
been like, and even ceased to recognize it as an

Moll Flanders And The Preface
The justifications made by the narrator of Moll Flanders and the anonymous author of the Preface are
not convincing because their claims are deceitful and appear to act in each individuals own self
interests. The narrator influences the story through unbelievable, and sometimes excessive,
explanations which control the readers thoughts about Moll Flanders choices and actions. Similarly,
the author of the Preface directs the attention onto the readers judgements to defend the novel. Both
the narrator and the author of the Preface abuse their power as storytellers in attempts to control the
judgements of the readers and rationalize telling a story full of crime and wickedness. The author of

The beginning of the novel does not agree with the justifications made by the author of the Preface.
The readers soon discover that the story s narrator is unreliable, which makes it difficult to for the
reader to have something of instruction from the story because the narrator may be lying to obscure
the truth (author of Preface 5). The narrator, who goes by the name of Moll Flanders , does not expose
herself (Defoe 7). When the novel begins she exclaims that My True Name is so well known in the
Records, or Registers at Newgate, and in the Old Baily....that it is not expected I should set my Name
(Defoe 7). The narrator conceals her true name to the readers because she recognizes that the
proclamation of her name may result in an imprisonment for prior felonies. It is at this blurred point of
view of the narrator that readers start to doubt if the events in the novel are true because they don t
receive a genuine guide through the story. Instead, they are left with a nameless raconteur that conveys
a personal account without disclosing her true self. The author of the Preface and the narrator exploit
their power which, therefore, makes their justifications unconvincing. Moll Flanders often provides a
passionate rationalization for her bad behavior which impacts the readers emotions and causes them to
feel remorse for her. Many times throughout the

The village that I live in is called MerricK . Merrick is a hamlet in Nassau County, Long Island on the
South Shore. This village is 35 miles from New York and one expressway exit from Jones Beach. The
name Merrick is taken from Meroke, the name (meaning peaceful) of the Algonquian tribe . The first
people that lived here are the Merokee Indians that farmed and fished in the area. In 1650, a Reverend
Denton moved his congregation to the area from Stamford, Conn., and founded the Town of Merrick.
They were drawn by the fertile soil and the Meadow Brook then a wide rushing stream, now a small

opportunities that would otherwise aid their learning (Zhang, 2008). Since 1960, personality has
emerged as major field of specialization among doctoral candidates (Vance Macphail, 1964). Many
investigations have been accomplished followed by literature on a variety of theories of personality.
The importance on individual differences and distinctiveness of the individual are the most frequent
features of the study of personality. There is a guarantee that each person s profile is different from
that of another person and thus, each person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study can merely be called systematic and scientific when it concerned unbiased observations that
are quantified so that systematic analyses can be performed (Allen, 1990). Dworkin and Kihlstrom
(1978) underlined that the prediction of behavior will be improved by the use of personality tests. In
line with this, many personality inventories with certain extent of reliability and validity have been
developed to aid in the study of personality.
There are essentially two forms of personality tests that can be found in the literature. One of it is
named projective test, allowing an extensive variety of freedom in making response, whereby the test
items are more unstructured, vague or open ended. Example of this is the Rorscharch Technique
(1951). In the meantime another form of test is called the objective test. Objective tests are extremely
structured paper and pencil questionnaires such as true/false or multiple choices, each of which can be
scored with a key. Sidek personality Inventory is one case of an objective test. As objective tests are
highly structured and scientific, they are higher in validity and reliability compared to projective tests.
Allport (1936) was the first one who considered the conception of traits as the origin of his theory of
personality. Nevertheless, different psychologists have developed different list of essential traits and
different measurement

The Conservation Of The Feral Pigs
INTRODUCTION This model addresses the pathways in which ecological drivers are having
significant influence over the natural systems of Hawaii. Climate change is one of the most pressing
issues of our time; Hawaii has not been exempt from the effects. We re witnessing a large increase in
sea levels, which can lead to the erosion of the small islands and eventually displace humans. Climate
change also is influencing the way we manage forests, to promote carbon sequestration we must focus
on managing forests for sustainable regeneration. Forest regeneration also influences other ecosystem
services like cultural, regulating, provisioning and supporting services. Specifically dealing with the
presence of feral pigs we see different drivers causing the increase in population and disturbances.
Cultural drivers are an issue. There is debate over control methods for the feral pigs has been
gridlocked between conservation biologists/environmentalists, hunters and managers. Public hunts
have been highly encouraged due to low costs, but hunters are afraid of snare traps that could hurt
them and potentially kill their dogs. Conservationists want to restore native vegetation. Managers are
seeking public approval and effective means of control. Overall, not enough is being done and human
relations are being strained. This is reducing cultural services from the land immensely. Another driver
is changing land use and development, which is highly stressing for the ecosystems.

  • 2. A Short Walk On The Twilight River stood interrupting Cinder s thoughts he announced, I do believe it s time to show Cinder the underground clubs. They all agreed and stood to don their coats. As they exited the building, River took a deep breath and glanced around at the night sky. The temperature has risen, and I do enjoy the twilight only Russia can provide. How is everyone for a short walk to the tunnel? Everyone glanced at Cinder, as the only mostly human she would be the one to decide if she could handle the cold. I would love a walk in the twilight. Cinder did her best to smile she wanted to enjoy tonight. It was a very short walk, before they were entering a railroad tunnel; Cinder thought as short cuts went it was rather dangerous. Hey guys, why are we walking into a railroad tunnel what if a train comes? Cinder had Tazzy tucked under her arm covered by her coat when he popped his head out and explained. This is not for trains; if you look closely you will see there are no tracks. Cinder used her boot to clear away the snow in front of her as she walked closer to the entrance, and found he was right there were no train tracks. Shadow revealed, Once inside the tunnel, the lights will start to come on lighting our path until we reach the stairs leading down. Then the lamplights from the underground area will light our way. You will see that there are sidewalks lining the fronts of the clubs, along with a few restaurants, and coffee houses. I do believe there is even a building that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Reflection Of A Personal Experience At Multimension The company I interned for this semester was MultiMension. It is a company founded and run by my intern supervisor, Julie Hyunjoo Lee. MultiMension is an E learning company that produces digital media tools for the various instructional needs of customers. These tools come in the form of online courses, infographics, animations, and interactive tutorials that are tailors to target audiences. The company has also been involved in mobile application design and development. They recently released a new meal planner application, called Nuttri. This is the product I worked exclusively with during my internship this semester. Nuttri is a baby meal planner application for apple and android mobile devices. It is currently designed for parents of infants who are between 4 to 24 months. The application provides information on different foods and nutrients that parents can use to make decisions on what and how parents plan for their baby s meals. The meals can be planned in the app calendar, with the ability to record the child s opinion of the meal after. Information on seasonality and preparation of ingredients help parents to prepare the right meals for a child during different periods of development. Addition information and scientific references are available on the website for the Nuttri application to allow parents to learn more on infant nutrition and development. My main role in the development of the Nuttri application was a research intern. My majors are Human Biology and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Rise Of The Papacy The Rise of the Papacy Introduction The birth or the beginnings of the Papacy is a rather difficult task to really nail down to a specific time, place or person and also the growth of the Papacy was a rather slow and gradual process. In this modern age Rome has been associated with the birth place of the Papacy but history shows that Constantine moved the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople in the 4th century. In Constantinople the father of the church was referred to as the Pope. The word Pope simply means father, and in early times was used to refer to any important and respected bishop. In Rome the father of the church was referred to as the Bishop of Rome. It is the purpose of this paper to present evidence of the individuals that gave rise to the Papacy in the centuries between the 6th and 9th. How and Why the Papacy in Rome became the Center of Power There are several contributing factors that prompted the rise of the Papacy during the time name mentioned above, but the one event that prompted this rise was the fall of the Roman Empire. When Rome was attacked by the Lombards, the Goths and the Huns it left a trail of destruction and uncertainty. Also during this time Christian heresies were running rampant throughout the state. The effort of Constantine and Roman Church leaders is when the Papacy really started to gain ground and the rise to power. As historical evidence has shown, Constantine relocated the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hurricane Katrina Duties The failures of government response to Hurricane Katrina was a result of the aggregation of the local and federal governments lacking proper communication with each other, the levels of government not fulfilling their duties in a state of emergency, and the lack of personal responsibility that each level of government took upon themselves in the crisis. On a local level, Mayor Ray Nagin did not mobilize evacuation via bussing, nor did he ensure that adequate amounts of food and water were stocked in shelters, despite these both being primarily mayoral duties in a state of emergency. Former FEMA director Michael Brown accused Mayor Nagin of not having enough of a sense of urgency in the situation, thus causing a delay in aid to New Orleans. Federally, FEMA s execution of its duties was entirely lacking, mostly due to poor leadership and a deficiency of action by former FEMA director Michael Brown. Brown did not carry out his duties before Katrina s landfall of having to direct personnel and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For future disasters, there needs to be more communication between different levels of government. Federal and local governments should work together to carry out the tasks they are legally assigned to. Rather than levels of government blaming each other for being irresponsible, they should work together and delegate tasks to help as many people as possible in an efficient manner. There needs to be significantly more effective leadership as well. Poor leadership was detrimental to FEMA s practices during Hurricane Katrina. Preparedness is also essential in future disasters. FEMA was shown to be unprepared for Katrina s landfall because of their incompletion of the Hurricane Pam project. Strategies to evacuate residents and choices on how to distribute medical care were undecided on, which is something that could have been avoided with proper and thorough ... • 7. Analysis Of The Movie Infamy Infamy: The Shocking Story of the Japanese American Internment in World War II On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Imperial Japan. Soon after the attack, hundreds of Japanese Americans were being arrested across the country. Within ten weeks President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the detention of the American Japanese. The author Richard Reeves, is a Senior Lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. He was educated as a mechanical engineer, and he began his journalism career at the age of 23. He has fifteen publications, six films, and has received thirteen awards. The book has an image of Japanese children with the look of sorrow and a suitcase for the background of the book cover. In the center of the book there is a huge, vibrant red circle that contains the title in bold black letters which captures the viewer s eyes. The title Infamy, meaning the state of being well known for some bad quality or deed makes one s curiosity wonder why the author would title a book like this that has Japanese children on it. Richard Reeves proves to know how to inform people of American history considering all the awards, and ratings he has received for his works. Immediately after the attack many Japanese newspapers in the United States were delivering patriotic words towards America but that did not stop the hundreds of Japanese Americans being arrested. • 8. Cause And Effect Of Hurricane Katrina Nature has thrashed the earth long before humans came to be. Volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, and hurricanes are by far some of the most destructive and devastating occurrences on the face of the planet. To illustrate, Hurricane Katrina came upon United States land in August of 2005. The states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and of course Louisiana (CNN Library, 2014) took a hard beating as Hurricane Katrina s winds sustained at 155 miles per hour alongside a storm surge over twenty feet high (National Geographic, 2005). New Orleans, Louisiana, averaging between one and two feet below sea level in elevation (Google, n.d.), experienced the full force of Hurricane Katrina as the hurricane s center arced toward the city. Levees were in place to hinder the influx of ocean waters, yet could not stay strong as Hurricane Katrina pounded against the barriers. The hurricane approached the Gulf Region as a category 5 and made landfall as a category 3 hurricane (History.com Staff, 2009). When the hurricane passed twelve hours later, all that was left was destruction. New Orleans was the city to be dealt the most damage. Over eighty percent of the city was left underwater from Hurricane Katrina (Nguyen, 2007). About seventy percent of occupied housing was taken by the hurricane (CNN Library, 2014). The population of New Orleans dropped from 484,674 in April of 2000 to 230,172 in July of 2006 (CNN Library, 2014). The hurricane s total damages were estimated at about 125 ... He and two other journalists, Ida Tarbell and Lincoln Steffens, were pioneers of a different kind of journalism known as muckraking. He was best known for his novel, The Jungle, published in 1906. The novel uncovered the unfair and unsanitary conditions of the Chicago meat packing industry. In 1904, the editor of the socialist journal, Appeal to Reason, Fred Warren, gave Sinclair the permission to write a novel about immigrant workers in the Chicago meat packing houses. The owner of the journal, Julius Wayland, gave Sinclair a $500 advance to do research for The Jungle. The Jungle was a fictional booked about a young man named, Jurgis Rudkis, who got a job as a gut shoveler at Durham meat packing house, which was Armour in reality. In The Jungle, Upton Sinclair also spoke about the filthiness of the packing houses. Rotten meat was covered in chemicals to hide the smell; rats climbed all over the warehouse, and left over animal parts were packaged as head cheese, used for fertilizer and even used as soap. Jurgis worked with people who had skin diseases, people who were always losing fingers as a result of the assembly line moving so fast, and people who constantly coughed spreading their germs all over the meat. There were few toilets, and no soap nor clean water to wash their hands with. These working conditions were unacceptable. • 14. Existentialism In Mrs. Dalloway s Waiting For Godot As a result of both World Wars, many who had been disillusioned by romanticized ideas of war were shocked by the abrupt pain and loss they experienced. Due to the excruciating catastrophe of War, people lost faith in religion and humanity and ultimately felt as though life lacked a meaningful purpose. This pessimistic view of life brought upon the emergence of existentialism as a prominent philosophical belief in society. Many Existentialists believed that our lives are ultimately meaningless and that our existence is comprised entirely of our actions; we must acknowledge that our lives occur while we are waiting for our inevitable deaths. Mrs. Dalloway and Waiting for Godot both exemplify through their characters that human life and experiences are comprised of the small moments in which we are collectively waiting for something. This idea of waiting for something is essential to the human experience because many existentialists of the eras, in which these stories were written, ultimately believe that a reality in which evils can occur, such as a World War, could not possibly have a caring God and that our existence must be made up solely of the actions that are performed in the time spent waiting, Becket would argue naively, for something to occur. One of those art works is Portrait of a Musician , or Man with a Sheet of Music (1633), presumably by Rembrandt (1606 1669). While some scholars believe the man portrayed in this portrait to be the German musician and composer Heinrich Schütz, other theories about the identity of this man exist, too. One of those theories, suggesting that the man portrayed is actually Constatijn Huygens, seems the most convincing. • 20. The Between Female And Female Urinary System Problem/Definition Microbes such as bacteria, viruses, or fungi enter the urethra and can cause a urinary tract infection. A UTI can occur in different parts of the urinary tract such as the kidneys, the ureter, the bladder or the urethra. They are more common in woman than in men. This is due to the females having a shorter urethra. According to Balentine (2015), about 40% of women and 12% of men will experience a UTI in their lifetime (p.1). It is because of the anatomical and physiological differences between the male and female urinary system that UTI s are more common in women. Background Different microbes that infect the lower and upper urinary tracts cause a urinary tract infection. Depending on where the infection develops the severity varies. If a patient is experiencing discomfort while urinating such as burning, lower abdominal cramping, constant need to urinate, incontinence, nocturia, or feeling generally unwell and achy, they may be experiencing a lower UTI (Robinson, 2013). Despite all these symptoms, some patient s may not experience any. A lower UTI involves the bladder and urethra (McIntosh, 2014). E. Coli, also known as Esherichia coli, lives in the bowel and anus. The bacteria E. coli causes 90% of urinary tract infections (Balentine, 2015, para.2). • 28. Theories Of Explaining Behavior Through Observation Adolescent Psychology Term Paper Jamila Williams Tuskegee University Behavioral psychology is based on the concept of explaining behavior through observation. Behaviorists, psychologist that study behavior, believe a person can be understood through observing their behavior. This school of psychology assumes that we are born as a blank state and everyone is equal. However, environmental factors are what leads to us behaving differently from one another. American Psychologist and Founder of Behaviorism John B. Watson studied the ultimate goal to provide basis for prediction and control of human beings acquired through conditioning. Conditioning occurs through interaction with the environment. Scientist strongly believe that individuals respond to an environmental stimulus that shapes our actions. Russian Physiologist Ivan Pavlov and American Psychologist and Behaviorist B. F. Skinner broke down conditioning into two types: classical conditioning and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning is a behavioral intervention technique by means of two stimuli being paired together in a consistent pattern to result in the same behavioral response. Pavlov was looking at salivation in dogs in response to being fed. His notion was that dogs can be taught to do certain things, for example dogs salivating when they see food. Compare And Contrast The Secret Sorrow And A Secret Sorrow Compare and Contrast: Works of Sorrow Good literature, although hard to define, is most times determined by whether a particular literary work is able to make one think or feel. A Secret Sorrow written by Karen van der Zee, and ¨A Sorrowful Woman,¨ written by Gail Godwin, are two pieces of literature that are debatably good, by this definition. I personally believe that ¨A Sorrowful Woman¨ was the better of the two due to its realism and thought provoking plot. The first story, written by Karen, is very stereotypical, the plot being somewhat predictable and the tone rather light. However, the second story, written by Gail, is quite the opposite; it takes on a more realistic approach and holds a darker tone. The stories are those that greatly contrast each other, their similarities almost completely lost to the dramatically different plots and tones. Yet, three particular topics of interest within these conflicting stories that have both differences and similarities are those of the female protagonists, children, and the overall tone of each story. To start, between the two stories, the female protagonists are the factors that differ the most due to the gender roles they accept. In A Secret Sorrow, Karen writes her female character into a stereotypical role one would observe in any common fairy tale. The woman, being much younger and smaller than her male partner, is described as being weak and cowardly like an animal. The reader observes a lengthy portion of the story ... Like when we ask our minister if we can do something and he says no, then we have to accept it and take no for an answer, trusting he had a good reason why he said no. Because he always has a good reason when he says something. Sometimes he says no because he doesn t want us to get hurt emotionally or physically, which we could. Sometimes we think adults don t let us do things just to control us and to make our lives miserable, which I believe a lot. But do they really, or are they just trying to teach us something because they made the same mistake. But I also think that we all need to learn from our mistakes, as much as our parents love us they can t always teach us to do something different because they made that mistake. We sometimes have to learn it on our own, our parents have been through much more in life then we have, so they understand quite clearly what we are going through. For example my sister and I really want a dog and my parents say NO every time because they are afraid we won t take care of him or something like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Upside Of Irrationality In The Upside of Irrationality, Dan Ariely aims to describe the irrational behaviors which a majority of people experience on a daily basis. By first describing his experience as a third degree burn victim, Ariely introduces himself and bases the first example of behavioral economics on himself. In an unfortunate turn of events, Ariely acquired hepatitis C due to an infected blood transfusion during his time in the hospital. In an attempt to get rid of it, he agreed to a very unpleasant experimental treatment. However, being the only participant to follow the grueling treatment, it proved to be a success. Even though most people would rather not face the negative immediate effect for the sake of a positive long term effect, Ariely was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ariely first noticed this phenomenon when he built a toy chest for his child. Even though it consisted of pre made supplies, he ended up valuing it more than any other similar piece of furniture in his home. Upon calling his colleague, he realized that he wasn t the only one who experienced this pride of creation. In the first study relating to this topic, Ariely looked back to pre made cakes. At first, they included all of the products necessary to make the cake. As a result, many housewives were not buying it. Later on, the manufacturer excluded several ingredients such as eggs, milk, and vegetable oil. Now that only 70% of the cake was made, the housewives took more pride in using the cake mix, since they felt that they were the ones that made it. In an attempt to prove this theory, Ariely made an experiment whereby he would have a person make an origami figure, and then bid for it. On average, the person who made the figure would pay five times more for their creation than a non creator would. This proved that the creator viewed their own work with more loving ... • 33. Analysis Of Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston Everybody s good when they re good, darling. You don t judge a person by that. It s how they act when things aren t good that tells you who they really are. ― Megan Jacobson (Goodreads, 56 Quotes ) Much like the world around us, literature has many elements that have the reader portray their own understanding and perspective of it. In Sweat, Zora Neale Hurston gives the reader many different situations where many readers can have several viewpoints. This seems to be very similar to the Bible, where a child of God can read the same scripture as another and have a completely different meaning in their eyes. Zora Hurston uses many elements that focus on the idea that actions one does speak louder than words, by the use of religious imagery and Delia, the wife. Sweat s narrator point of view is told in third person omniscient, meaning the narrator switches from character to character constantly and does not restrict the reader to one character s perspective. Hurston uses this element to introduce us to each of the characters daily life and their belief in Christianity. Not only does it give us each character s standpoint, but also clarification of an outside view and provide the reader with additional information and background of the married couple. To begin the story, Hurston, with the use of the narrator being from third person omniscient, introduces us to Delia as a wash woman who was working on a Sunday night all the way until eleven o clock after church earlier in the ... • 34. Relations Between Iran and US Essay In 1979, protests erupted across the nation against the government of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. This was triggered by the domination of foreign policy, the exploitation of Iran s resources and wealth by foreign firms, corruption and oppressive regime. The Shah s government s close ties with the United States and Israel, his oppressive methods and his program of Westernization were unpopular with the Iranian people. They therefore turned to the ulama as an alternative. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, in exile in Paris, distributed cassette tapes of his speeches to many of the partakers in the protests. The protests were eventually included under the umbrella of Shiite Islam. The Shah was eventually overthrown and sent to exile. Ayatollah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The politicization of the concepts of Shi ism was first presented by Ayatollah Khomeini s concept of velayat e faqih (the governance of jurisprudence). According to this concept, the Supreme Leader (vali e faqih) is the legal leader of the Islamic community and, thus, he is equal to the imam. The velayat e faqih has been the main principle of the Islamic Republic of Iran s political structure since the revolution. This Shiite component is a very important element of foreign policy as it is what forms Iranian identity, along with Iranian nationalism. Shi ism is very different from Sunni Islam. It is infinitely more religious and plays a much larger role in people s daily lives. It is because of this that even the most secular of the political groups that partook in the revolution were still very much religious. After the coup staged by the CIA against Mossadeq, who attempted to nationalize the oil industry, the United States became highly unpopular with the Iranian people and was viewed as a counterforce to Iranian nationalism. This strongly Shiite identity is also why the referendum resulted in the establishment of an Islamic Republic. It is also important as it set one of Iran s major foreign policy goals and has been a driving force for many of its strategic decisions in the region. Following the establishment of the Islamic Republic, Iran severed ties with Israel, a far cry from what relations had been like, and even ceased to recognize it as an ... • 38. Moll Flanders And The Preface The justifications made by the narrator of Moll Flanders and the anonymous author of the Preface are not convincing because their claims are deceitful and appear to act in each individuals own self interests. The narrator influences the story through unbelievable, and sometimes excessive, explanations which control the readers thoughts about Moll Flanders choices and actions. Similarly, the author of the Preface directs the attention onto the readers judgements to defend the novel. Both the narrator and the author of the Preface abuse their power as storytellers in attempts to control the judgements of the readers and rationalize telling a story full of crime and wickedness. The author of the Preface recognizes that the readers will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The beginning of the novel does not agree with the justifications made by the author of the Preface. The readers soon discover that the story s narrator is unreliable, which makes it difficult to for the reader to have something of instruction from the story because the narrator may be lying to obscure the truth (author of Preface 5). The narrator, who goes by the name of Moll Flanders , does not expose herself (Defoe 7). When the novel begins she exclaims that My True Name is so well known in the Records, or Registers at Newgate, and in the Old Baily....that it is not expected I should set my Name (Defoe 7). The narrator conceals her true name to the readers because she recognizes that the proclamation of her name may result in an imprisonment for prior felonies. It is at this blurred point of view of the narrator that readers start to doubt if the events in the novel are true because they don t receive a genuine guide through the story. Instead, they are left with a nameless raconteur that conveys a personal account without disclosing her true self. The author of the Preface and the narrator exploit their power which, therefore, makes their justifications unconvincing. Moll Flanders often provides a passionate rationalization for her bad behavior which impacts the readers emotions and causes them to feel remorse for her. Many times throughout the ... • 39. Neighborhood Essay The village that I live in is called MerricK . Merrick is a hamlet in Nassau County, Long Island on the South Shore. This village is 35 miles from New York and one expressway exit from Jones Beach. The name Merrick is taken from Meroke, the name (meaning peaceful) of the Algonquian tribe . The first people that lived here are the Merokee Indians that farmed and fished in the area. In 1650, a Reverend Denton moved his congregation to the area from Stamford, Conn., and founded the Town of Merrick. They were drawn by the fertile soil and the Meadow Brook then a wide rushing stream, now a small trickle paralleling the parkway that took its name. Merrick has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13 km2), of which 4.2 square miles (11 km2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Few times I forgot the car s doors wide open or even the engine running for couples of hours until my husband came home and everything was perfectly fine. The lecture that followed after it is another story. Another characteristic of Merrick is the fact that a large majority of its residents choose to grow their families in a town where they spent their childhood. The surroundings are beautiful. Well kept properties, a willow bordered pond where duck feeding is allowed, tennis courts and baseball fields run by the Town of Hempstead are nearby, as are a swimming pool and indoor ice rink run by Nassau County. There are four synagogues in town two Conservative, one Reform and one Orthodox and seven churches two Catholic, one Episcopal, one Baptist, one Methodist, one Presbyterian and a newly completed Greek Orthodox Church topped by a copper dome. • 40. Essay on Theories of Personality Introversion has the greatest chance of negatively affecting SLA. Students that are afraid of embarrassing themselves by speaking incorrectly or by not being able to speak at all may try to avoid opportunities that would otherwise aid their learning (Zhang, 2008). Since 1960, personality has emerged as major field of specialization among doctoral candidates (Vance Macphail, 1964). Many investigations have been accomplished followed by literature on a variety of theories of personality. The importance on individual differences and distinctiveness of the individual are the most frequent features of the study of personality. The study can merely be called systematic and scientific when it concerned unbiased observations that are quantified so that systematic analyses can be performed (Allen, 1990). Dworkin and Kihlstrom (1978) underlined that the prediction of behavior will be improved by the use of personality tests. In line with this, many personality inventories with certain extent of reliability and validity have been developed to aid in the study of personality. There are essentially two forms of personality tests that can be found in the literature. One of it is named projective test, allowing an extensive variety of freedom in making response, whereby the test items are more unstructured, vague or open ended. Example of this is the Rorscharch Technique (1951). In the meantime another form of test is called the objective test. Objective tests are extremely structured paper and pencil questionnaires such as true/false or multiple choices, each of which can be scored with a key. Sidek personality Inventory is one case of an objective test. As objective tests are highly structured and scientific, they are higher in validity and reliability compared to projective tests. Allport (1936) was the first one who considered the conception of traits as the origin of his theory of personality. Nevertheless, different psychologists have developed different list of essential traits and different measurement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Conservation Of The Feral Pigs INTRODUCTION This model addresses the pathways in which ecological drivers are having significant influence over the natural systems of Hawaii. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time; Hawaii has not been exempt from the effects. We re witnessing a large increase in sea levels, which can lead to the erosion of the small islands and eventually displace humans. Climate change also is influencing the way we manage forests, to promote carbon sequestration we must focus on managing forests for sustainable regeneration. Forest regeneration also influences other ecosystem services like cultural, regulating, provisioning and supporting services. Specifically dealing with the presence of feral pigs we see different drivers causing the increase in population and disturbances. Cultural drivers are an issue. There is debate over control methods for the feral pigs has been gridlocked between conservation biologists/environmentalists, hunters and managers. Public hunts have been highly encouraged due to low costs, but hunters are afraid of snare traps that could hurt them and potentially kill their dogs. Conservationists want to restore native vegetation. Managers are seeking public approval and effective means of control. Overall, not enough is being done and human relations are being strained. This is reducing cultural services from the land immensely. Another driver is changing land use and development, which is highly stressing for the ecosystems. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
