An Evaluation Of A Uk Public Limited Manufacturing Company
Introduction
This report is an evaluation provided to a finance director of a UK public limited manufacturing
company, whose subsidiaries are around the world. The company s stock is trading on the London
Stock Exchange. The report is going to provide some information about working capital
management (WCM).
It is commonly known that working capital investment has become a large proportion in a firm s
balance sheet. According to Bank of Belgium, the proportion of accounts receivable, payment and
inventory were respectively 17%, 13% and 10% of total assets of all Belgian nonfinancial firms in
1997 (Deloof, 2003). There is a similar situation in Spanish firms: there is 69% current assets of
total assets and 52% current liabilities of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, firms may lose the early payment discount offered by its suppliers, which may
result in more finance costs (Wong, 2002).
Trade receivable: Trade receivable may boost sales because it allows customers to access product s
quality before paying. The flip side of trade receivable is that capital would be locked in working
capital, as a result the company s financial department may face cash flow and liquidity problems
(Jose, Lancaster and Stevens, 1996; Lazaridis and Tryfonidis, 2006).
Inventory: A larger inventory reduces the risk of stock out and it is also a vehicle to increase
sales. The negative side of inventory is the same as trade receivable (Nazir and Afza, 2009;
Deloof, 2003). Lazaridis and Tryfonidis (2006) states that an optimum level of inventory will have
a direct effect on profitability since it will release cash invested in working capital and could also
respond to a high demand.
The measurement of WC
Cash conversion cycle (CCC) is a widely used WC measurement, which is the time lag between
the raw material purchase and the collection of finished goods. The CCC can be calculated as:
The cash conversion cycle = Number of days accounts receivable + Number of days inventory
Number of days accounts payable payments. In real business operations, CCC as whole and each
parts of CCC could be used to measure the efficiency of WCM (Deloof, 2003; GarcГa Teruel and

Native Americans And The Americans
1.The initial contact between Native Americans and the Europeans was far more unique than any
other racial interaction because the Native Americans were already residing in the United States. As
for other ethnic groups, they were foreign to the new soil in Northern America. At first, the Native
Americans held hospitality towards the arriving Europeans, whereas, the Europeans did not hold
any hospitality towards the arriving immigrants. The Europeans response to the Native Americans
hospitality was to slaughter and exploit the entire racefor the mere profit of land access.
2.Certain myths about Native Americans make them feel as if there is no progress within their
community. Within the media, Native Americans are often portrayed towards living in archaic
conditions with structures such as teepees. These images often lead people to think that the
Native community has not evolved with the white society. Thus, when images of Native chiefs
and princess s are shown they offend them because they are only represented by the white
supremacist viewpoint. These images make people believe that the Natives are stuck at a certain
time period. Whenever images like the Nobel Savage are introduced it causes many within the
Native community to get fueled with anger because it is not true, for Natives had already
developed civilizations amongst their own people with equality for all. The Nobel Savage ideal
portrays them as vulnerable people, when in fact; Native Americans were capable of

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National Security Agency (NSA), the military, and

no judicial or law enforcement powers, and is not allowed to perform domestic intelligence
gathering. The CIA is absolutely prohibited from any internal security functions. In addition, it is
imperative to understand that the CIA has no hand in policy making; it only provides information
and action on specific policies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Intelligence_Agency). An
excerpt from the Values statement of the CIA, from www.cia.gov, states: Our success depends on
our ability to act with total discretion and an ability to protect sources and methods. The CIA also
states, We provide objective, unbiased information and analysis. We stand by one another and
behind one another. Service, sacrifice, flexibility, teamwork, and quiet patriotism are our hallmarks.
(www.cia.gov). Regardless of public opinion, this is what the CIA stands for and how they
represent themselves. Understanding where the CIA fits into government function is important to

directorates, who carry out the processes of collecting, analyzing, and giving intelligence to the

The One With The Male Nanny
After watching the Friends episode, The One with the Male Nanny, I began to realize why
society is so unaccepting of certain sexualities and set on their opinion of acceptable gender roles.
In this episode, Rachel and Ross are looking to hire a female nanny to care for their newborn baby.
Throughout the episode they go through trial and error to find the perfect femalenanny to nurture
and care for their precious child. Their next candidate Sandy knocks on the door, and Rachel and
Ross are both in shock that a maleis applying to nanny their child. Ross and Rachel stand at the
door visibly shocked and concerned, because they thought Sandy was a female. They slowly

Price Gouging In The United States
The idea of price gouging can have many different perspectives on it, and is very controversial.
Price gouging is when a seller spikes their prices of goods, services, or other purchase products to
a level higher than reasonable. Ethically, I do agree with the fact that merchants shouldn t sky
rocket their product prices during a state of emergency price gouging.
Illegally, price gouging is continuing to affect our labor market and offset the cost of living in
many states. Price gouging is continuing to affect the health of many people due to pharmaceutical
companies and their major increases in price. Lastly, price gouging just is unjust, immoral, and
against the law in states. While there are no federal regulations to price gouging and ... Show more

Price gouging occurs when a merchant drastically raises their prices on daily necessities. When
setting cities living wage and cost of living, the cost of daily necessities plays a role. Cost of
living is the amount of money needed to sustain a certain level of living, including basic expenses
such as housing, food, taxes and health care.
A book called The fundamentals of minimum wage fixing by Francois Eyraud and Catherine
Saget talks brief about cost of living and how it is incorporated into minimum wage. The authors
gave different ways on how the cost of living is determined. According to the two, they shared that
the cost of living is determined by the price of goods (standard necessities to live), and wage
statistics submitted by the United States Department of Labor (Eyraud, Saget, 2005). Both living
wage and cost of living differentiates by state and cities. Cost of living effects how the government
set the nations minimum wage. When merchants continuously raise prices of daily necessities and
they are unreasonable, it can affect the cost of living. To prevent this trickle down effect, the
United States government should create federal regulations on price gouging to prevent an increase
in cost of living which then leads to an increase in minimum wage, which then leads to possible jobs

Maltese Falcon Character Analysis
Do you ever wonder what makes an intriguing classic novel? Many books appear to fall into the
classic category, but few books really turn out to be classics. This topic can go many ways,
arguing what really makes a classic, but there is a basic criteria that classics must meet. The
book that I analyzed was The Maltese Falcon. This book should not be considered a classic
because it does not give the reader a different perspective, there is not a big moral to the story,
and because it is not related to real issues. The Maltese Falcon should not be considered a classic
because it does not give the reader a different perspective. True classics leave the reader with a
different mindset, and The Maltese Falcon fails to do that. For example in the classic, Dr. Jekyll
and Mr. Hyde, you have a different view point at the end of the book. The book gives you a
different perspective about the characters and about the obscure door. In the beginning of the book
you are unsure about the mysterious door, but in the end you realize that the door has meaning.
This simple object leaves you with a different perspective about it. The Maltese Falcon also has a
simple object, the falcon itself. The falcon is a main focal point that the reader... Show more content

considered a classic it must be related to current issues. In today s society books about sports,
school, drama, or romance would be more appealing books to audiences. The Maltese Falcon is
also not a book that stands the test of time. When readers think of classics they will most likely
think of Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, or Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These are a few books

Advantages Of Khalifa Bin Salman Seaport
1.Introduction
In the period between 1916 and 2016, many significant changes happened in Bahrain at the level of
transportation. These changes include setting up Khalifa Bin Salman Port in Hidd northeast of
Bahrain in the 1st April, 2009 (Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication, n.d.). So, why it
was necessary to construct this seaport? What geographical factors and technological changes
happened in the last 100 years made it possible to build it? And what advantages that make Khalifa
Bin Salman seaport perform better than Mina Salman seaport?

Essay on The Dream
The Dream
In the early twentieth century, film maker and producer Adolph Zukor met Jesse Lasky, owner of
Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company. The two men admired each others previous work and, in
1916, decided to combine forces. They created Paramount pictures and had one of the most familiar
slogans in the film industry, If it s a Paramount Picture it s the Best Show in Town . Proving their
slogan true they started turning out more than two pictures per week. During it s peak in the silent
film making era, Paramount was making 5 million dollars a year more than other production
companies such as Warner, Fox, and Universal.(Paramount)

Entertainment is not all Paramount has provided for the telecommunications and film industry.
Since the company began, the decisions it has made have influenced others in the industry. Even
though they may not have always been the most profitable movie making company, they have
always been interested in broadening their horizons, and the sky was the limit. Not long after
Paramount was created Zukor decided to maintain his company s supremacy in the industry. He
began a theater buying campaign that amassed single houses and entire circuits... By 1930, the firm
s movie house division had grown to include almost 2,000 units and was named Publix Theaters
(Huettig). Paramount helped establish the neighborhood movie theater, along with providing
hundreds of award winning quality movies to view. Paramount has also contributed to the
competitive aspect of the movie industry, forcing actors and directors to do their best work. Stated

Toronto Maple Leafs Contenders
The Toronto Maple Leafs cup contenders? Impossible, you might say, and that would have been
the case just a mere two seasons ago when they fell off the cliff and crash landed into the bottom
of the Eastern Conference, but the Maple Leafs are a different team now. They have rebuilt, oted,
and redeemed themselves in a city where winning has become a dot on the horizon. They have
accumulated all of the things that take a team to the playoffs: improved defense, explosive offence,
and unbelievably talented goaltending. With the fresh vision of their head coach, Randy Carlyle,
the Toronto Maple Leafshave become a team with a shot at the playoffs this season. To begin
with, one of the most important reasons why the Leafs have become a contending team this
season is because of their outstanding improvement on the blue line. Putting the puck in the net
has never been an issue nor a worrisome topic in the city of Toronto. Fans hear the buzzer go off
at the ACC regularly and it has been something we have taken pride in. Nonetheless, when your
defense can not defend, there just is not enough goals to score, which is why the case has been
different this season and in as the talented players on this team have finally had their time to
emerge thanks to the defense doing their jobs. Let s be honest , one does not simply find
themselves in dead last one year, and magically climb to 5th the next. No, the Buds made some

Persuasive Business Messages Essay
MANAGEMENT 101
BUSINESS COMMUNICATION
Why is it important to present both sides of an argument when writing a persuasive message to a
potentially hostile audience?
It is important to present both sides of the argument in a persuasive message to a potentially hostile
audience because one has to try and avoid angering the audience even more. What one aims to do is
to persuade the audience and let them know that they acknowledge the audiences view on the
matter at hand.
To show that one acknowledges the audiences view, one needs to catch the audience s attention this
can be done through addressing their side of the argument letting the audience know that their point
of view has been taken into consideration and then explaining to ... Show more content on

By stating ones side of the argument one can then explain how the decision made may help or aid
the audience in the future therefore it may help increase the audiences desire to change their view
on the matter which will more likely lead to a more positive response from the audience than
hostility.
After collecting all the information on the topic of the matter at hand one can now formulate a way
in which they can convey the message to the audience without aggravating or offending the
audience. The way in which the persuasive message is to be conveyed should be convenient and
most reliable to one s audience.
The message has to be written in simple language so that the audience does not misinterpret the
message or be offended by the jargon used.
Grammatical mistakes have to be minimised in the construction of the message so that the message
comes across as having been carefully thought through. It should display good intentions and must
not be blaming to the audience but in fact it should help establish a common ground between you
and the audience, which will in turn help the smoother flow of communication and understanding
between the two parties.
Once the message has been created and proof read one would find the correct and most effective
way of sending the message to the audience. Face to face is usually best as it allows one to see the
audiences immediate reaction to one s message and if misunderstandings

John Havelock s Dividend
I think Scott Goldsmith and John Havelock s reasoning in the article Dividend is the strongest
protection for the Alaska Permanent Fund works best. The first article, Guarantee the PFD, uses
the reasoning of a Nobel Laureate and economist. Although this article may seem like the most
reasonable choice because it comes with the insight of a highly acclaimed individual, a sizable
portion of the article is simply encouraging the reader to act against the new legislation. The article
tells the reader about the assets of Alaska that could be used to instead substitute for the dividend
shares from the Permanent Fund, but does not go as in depth as the second article s authors do.
Cassellius and Smith simply state facts and give little reasoning or logical explanation behind it,
leading me to prefer the other article. The third article Who owns Alaska? Our wealth was meant to
share by Charles Wohlforth, an Alaskan author and columnist, touches on personal experience and
relies heavily on historical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both authors use a wide variety of statistics and facts in their article and also explain the logic and
reasoning behind each one. They say how the Permanent Fund is the state s largest asset and
explain how we can afford to pay dividends to Alaskans while continuing to generate $2.5 billion
annually. Aside from the statistics, the authors recognize the same pattern of people turning to the
dividend whenever there is a fiscal crisis. They propose the alternatives of using the earnings
reserve, cashing out the unrealized gains, and eliminating inflation proofing which would free up
$14 billion dollars for spending. They also consider limiting the amount of the dividend paid each
year in order to consider both sides of the debate. Although their ideas may seem optimistic, their
facts which support their ideas do

The Higgs Boson Is The Particle That Gives Weight To Other...
The Higgs Boson.
The Higgs boson is the particle that gives weight to other particles. The Higgs Boson is a particle
within the standard Model of physics. It creates weight by interacting with other particles; the more
it interacts, the heavier it is. We have a tendency to consider mass as ingrained importance of all
things, however the majority of physicists consider that without the Higgs boson, mass
fundamentally doesn t exist. Without the higgs boson nothing would exist, this is due to the fact
that everything has mass, even miniscule molecules weigh something. The Higgs Boson is not
heavy itself(as it is a particle particles are profoundly diminutive) but depending how much it
interacts with the particles around it, determines how heavy the particles within the higgs field
is. This was all a theory since 1964 until scientists at CERN used the Large Hadron
Collider(LHC) to find the theory of the Higgs Boson to be a real particle. The particle decays
almost instantaneously so scientists at CERN are trying to slow down the process of decay and
evaluate the process. We have a tendency to consider mass as ingrained importance of all things,
however the majority of physicists consider that without the Higgs boson, mass fundamentally
doesn t exist. There are 17 particles within the standard model of physics. Fundamental particles are
the components of matter, called fermions. Bosons are the particles that create interactions. There
are twelve dubbed fermions, therefore

Allegory And Symbolism In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
It is hard to read beyond the third paragraph of Young Goodman Brown without finding allegory
and symbolism. The opening seems realistic Goodman Brown, a young Puritan, leaves his home
in colonial Salem to take an overnight trip but his wife s name, Faith, immediately suggests a
symbolic reading. Before long, Brown s walk into the dream like forest seems like an allegorical
trip into evil. The idea that Hawthorne shows by this trip is that people are attracted to sin through
temptation which leads them towards a path of isolation and distrust. He develops this thought in
the allegoryand in many symbols, particularly the staff, the pink ribbon, and Faith.
The allegory is about Goodman Brown following his temptation and how it is ... Show more content

The pink ribbons represent innocence, Faith wears those pink ribbons the pink ribbons of her cap
(1), so she is thought to be innocent and childlike but as it turns out she is a secret sinner attracted
to sin and temptation like everyone.
The imagery in Young Goodman Brownis very dark and gothic like. Throughout the story the
narrator tries to capture evil within the imagery. The first appearance of a dark imagery is when
Goodman Brown describes the road he takes towards the forest, he describes it as a dreary road
(8) he also describes all the trees of the forest to appear gloomy like. Another image the author
paints is when Goodman Brown is walking down the road he then says that there might be a
devilish indian (9) behind the trees. This image captures the evil and darkness that is going on in
the forest and we can see this clearly through the imagery. The imagery also ties back to the
thematic statement.
Goodman Brown like every character in the story becomes tempted to sin. He admits that he is a
horrible person what wretch am I (7) for leaving Faith to follow his temptation. But he is attracted
and tempted to sin like every human being. His temptation leads him to become a stern, sad...
distrustful (72) man. After giving into the temptation of attending the meeting in the forest, he
gives into evil and does not know what to believe or trust anymore. All because he went away from
his faith. Even

Populations are defined as the set of all items or individuals of interest. Samples are less time

types: convenience, judgement or quota. Most sampling methods are purposive in nature because
we usually approach the sampling problem with a specific plan in mind. The most important
distinctions among these types of sampling methods are the ones between the different types of
purposive sampling approaches. Convenience sampling occurs when the sampling units are selected
to suit the convenience of the researcher. Respondents are included in the sample if they happen to
be in the right place at the right time. In a study on employment practices in the textile industry, a
researcher may find it more convenient to interview employees within one clothing manufacturing

What Is Crane s View Of Nature
The diction of The Open Boat arguably demonstrates Crane s view of nature as all three: subjective,
wicked, and existing as a separate entity. This story clearly represents the struggle of conflict
between man and nature. The crewman s dire circumstances place them in a position against nature
that provides ample opportunity for them to feel slighted. However, though man may rage against
naturewhen confronted by it; nature does not concern itself with the whims of man. For example,
Crane states, When it occurs to a man that nature does not regard him as important, and that she
feels she would not maim the universeby disposing of him... (Crane 21). The author outlines the
stark contrast between the thoughts of man and those of nature. Additionally,... Show more content

The use of repetition implores the reader to share concern and empathy with the ravaged
crewmen. As one of them contemplate death he curses the wickedness of nature, If I am going to
be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad gods who rules the sea, was I allowed to come
thus far and contemplate sand and trees (Crane 11)? Ultimately, I argue that Crane believes nature
to be a separate entity entirely that is neither subjective nor wicked but rather exists. However, he
does change his perspective when he writes from the angle of man. In this, he shows that nature is
in fact personified by humans and given a personality of its own. Crane consistently uses
personification when describing nature to attest to this and demonstrates how far interwoven man
is with nature. For example, the author states, The third wave moved forward, huge, furious,
implacable. It fairly swallowed the dingey... (Crane 21). This represents just a fraction of the
personification Crane exemplifies in his nature writing. The use of this literary device snares the
reader s attention and transforms the sea into a character with thoughts, feelings, and

Examples Of Machiavellianism In Richard III
Throughout Shakespeare s Richard III, King Richard strives to gain and keep the power of
kingship to himself. He is often described as a Machiavellian character due to his cunning,
narcissistic personality. However, he does not display all of the characteristics required of a
Machiavellian ruler. Richard is unable to retain his power, being killed by Richmond soon after
his own coronation. The fatal flaws that leads to Richards demise is that he retains his religious
beliefs, lacks the fear of his peer/followers, and fails to use his deputies properly, unlike a true
Machiavellian. Richard s religious beliefs play heavily into his interpretations and reactions to the
challenges he is faced with. A true Machiavellian does not believe in an... Show more content on

Machiavelli stresses the need for a successful prince to have deputies. These people are close
advisors who are responsible for completing any dirty work for the prince. If commoners become
upset about a specific deed that the prince instructed a deputy to perform, the prince is able to
punish the deputy for this task and gain respect from his followers. Richard uses Hastings and
Buckingham as deputies, but not in the most effective manner. He does not place blame on his
deputies for the deaths of Clarence and the two princes. Instead, he takes credit for his actions
when confronted by Queen Elizabeth. Because Richard does not use these deaths in order to
improve his status with noblemen and commoners, he misses another opportunity to gain support
from his followers. These actions lead to little backing for Richard s cause. Eventually, Richard
meets his demise because of this. After Richard has killed Hastings and Buckingham has fled,
Richard is left with a dearth of deputies to command. He takes up Stanley as a replacement, but
lacks complete power and fear over him, as Stanley is working with Richmond instead. By using
and removing his two most trustworthy deputies too quickly, Richard leaves himself with a
plethora of tasks to complete and no henchmen to do them. A true Machiavellian would have had

Iron From The Anglo-Saxon Word Iron (Fe)
The element I am researching is Iron(Fe). Iron could be used in many ways. Iron is a ductile,

Comparison Between Hamlet And Hamlet
Hamlet Vs. Hamlet: A Comparison Between Films
Laurence Olivier (1948) and Kenneth Branagh (1996) both created films about the Shakespearean
play Hamlet, yet they are both very different. The two films were created fifty years apart and
present their film using their own perspectives and interpretations of Shakespeare s Hamlet while
using the same themes Shakespeare had. Two important themes are the use of technology and
treatment of women.
In Laurence Olivier s 1948 film, women are objectified; this reflects on the year of production.
The abuse in the character roles were more admissibly shown by gender roles. Hamlet is
presented as a very controlling person and is very controlling of Ophelia. He manipulates her
into having sex with him and shows other forms of relentless abuse towards Ophelia.
Furthermore, Hamlet reveals no other signs of affection for her other those of lust. Unlike the
version filmed by Kenneth Branagh in 1996, the date filmed is an important factor, as it
demonstrated how men interacted with women. In Olivier s film, Hamlet is stereotypically
masculine monotonous and aggressive. In the beginning of the first scene, Hamlet appears to
be emotionless, until he abruptly points to Claudius and aggressively yells All but one! The
scene ends with Hamlet exerting his power over Ophelia by throwing Ophelia to the ground and
leaving her on the steps to lure Polonius and Claudius out from behind the curtain. Hamlet
realizes what he has done to Ophelia, but leaves the room without helping her up or apologizes
for what he has done, even though his plan had failed. It is clear that Hamlet s plan to use
Ophelia as bait had failed because they could not have seen him or Ophelia from their side of the
curtain. Polonius confirms this when he says, No need to tell us, we have heard it all . In
contrast, Kenneth s Hamlet stops once he sees what he had done to Ophelia and goes back to
her. Kenneth s Hamlet is more emotional. He sheds tears, expresses pain in his voice, deeply
sighs, and overall is less physical with Ophelia. These differences between Kenneth and Olivier s
versions of the character Hamlet reflect the era of which they were created. In Olivier s time, abuse
of women was permitted; a man

The Menace Of Materialism In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
The Menace of Materialism
Written by Gustave Flaubert and published in 1856, Madame Bovary tells a story about the life
and death of Emma Bovary, a middle class woman living in mid nineteenth century France. This
novel is known as one of the best examples of literary realism ever written, and for good reason.
Through his writing and attention to detail, Flaubert does an excellent job of giving the reader an
idea of just how mundane everyday life was like in France during the mid nineteenth century.
Through the various characters in the novel, Flaubert is also able to portray many positive and
negative characteristics he saw in the people living during this time. Of the many different
characteristics and ideas that Flaubert uses to describe characters throughout the novel, I think that
the many aspects he saw in the bourgeoisie class and materialism are uniquely important. I believe
that the ways Flaubert uses the ideas and issues of materialism and similar principles he saw in the
bourgeoisie to tell the story of Madame Bovary, to criticize the bourgeoisie, as well as show how
harmful and destructive he believed these issues could be to a society. The historical context of the
time that Flaubert lived in is a likely reason for his use of the bourgeoisie materialistic ideas. In the
time period that Gustave Flaubert worked on Madame Bovary, the bourgeoisie were considered to
be a very large class. The bourgeoisie being a middle class of people such as manufacturers and

all their stories and decide what people see and think about, and how to think about certain stories;
also known as Agenda Setting .
New Zealand and America interpret news completely differently, what is important in America may
have zero relevance to New Zealand media and vis versa. Agenda setting is more obvious in the
New York times, they report on specific events to endorse and highlight events or issues in an

The Power Of The Pack Is Unleashed
In my office I have a picture on the wall of wolfs grouping together into a pack with one clear
leader standing tall in the mist of them. There is a motivational statement on the bottom, of which
the final wording reads by the strength of the leader the power of the pack is unleashed . This
concept of the power of the leader is universal in every business, to include nonprofits. But how is
a Chief Executive Officer(CEO) or Executive Director (ED) to lead in financial matters when they
do not possess a strong financial background? Within the following paragraphs we will look
briefly at ways to ensure the CEO or ED are strong financial leaders and steps to utilize in
executing this financial leadership.
Ensuring Strong Financial Leadership
There are some that will say that true leaders surround themselves with great people. Although that
may be true, when it comes to the financial health of the organization, simply having a trusted Chief
Financial Officer (CFO), financial team, or financial consultant is not enough. A senior executive
without an understanding of finance cannot make use of such information or make financial
decisions to lead the organization well (Crawford, 2010). So what is an organization to do? The
easiest, most effective method is simply to recruit a leader that already has a background in
finances. As reported in Forbes magazine, about 30 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs spent the first

Investigating The Relationship Between Motor Neurons And...
The purpose of this lab is to evaluate the relationship between motor neurons and their associated
muscle s electrical activity via neuromuscular junctions through: determining the correlation
between EMG (electromyogram) activity and muscle force, observing muscle fatigue, as well as
calculating the conduction velocity associated with the Achilles tendon reflex arc. An additional
purpose of this lab is to demonstrate the effects of arm circumference and relative dominance on
musclefatigue.
Hypothesis In the first experiment, as muscle force increases as induced by the subject, it is
expected that the EMG activity will elevate likewise due to the directly proportional relationship
between contraction strength and the muscle s amount of electrical impulses. Additionally, it is
expected that resistance to fatigue will increase with greater forearm circumference due to the
greater amount of fatigue resistant slow oxidative fibers. In the third section of this lab, it is
anticipated that as path length of a particular reflex arc (in this case, the Achilles tendon reflex)
increases, the overall conduction velocity will decrease due to the increased reflex time necessary
for the impulse to be conducted up and down longer neurons.
Background For all aspects of this lab to be properly understood, the following principles and
associated information of the following must be known: the relationship between nerves and their
associated muscle(s), how electrical activity is

In order operations in the United States, Modelo set up Procermex Inc. a subsidiary whose purpose
was to coordinate, support, and supervise the two distributors. The strength of the relationship
between the importer and Modelo was very strong as taxes increased in 1991. To further expand
internationally, I would encourage Grupo Modelo to continue its model of contracting with a
distributor in the target region. This strategy has benefited the company because the local
distributors are able to brand the beers to their local market needs. I believe that China and
Australia are two markets that have great potential for demand of Grupo Modelo s beers. China
recently surpassed the U.S. in total beer consumption. There is a huge population that is potential
for demand. Australia already has high per capita consumption of beer, so it might be an easy
market to enter especially considering the match of brand image of Corona to the typical image of

How Online Brand Communication And Customer Engagement...
Research Question:
How online brand communication and customer engagement influence a consumer s decision
purchase.
The marketing strategy of branding is not a new concept. A company s brand is not a logo, or a
tag line, but rather the relationship it has with its customer base, it is in essence not how a company
defines itself but how the public defines it. With every interaction and every customer touch point a
business shapes its brand identity, and participants in this exchange are known as a brand
community. Where the development and monetization of the internet have allowed businesses to
expand into new forms of customer engagement, these types of online interactions can be the
deciding factor in a consumer s ultimate decision to purchase and/or become brand ambassadors.
Through research on business social media strategies, cultivating online communities and curating
content via corporate websites and paid advertising I hope to discover how this type of business to
consumer communication supports and replacement to the in person shopping experience.
Additionally, how these types of communications weigh against a consumers ultimate decision to

The Canon of Scripture Essay
Most Christians do not think about the canon of scripture or know what it is or means in
theology. Most take for granted the Bible they have and never question how it came into being.
Today, we have 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament. There was a
time, however, that we did not have a canon. Bruce defines canon as books of the Biblethat were
recognized to be considered scripture (p. 17). The importance of the canon and how it was
developed was intriguing to professor and author F.F. Bruce. He dedicated his book The Canon of
Scripture to explore and explain the formulation of the canon we have today. Bruce taught in

the Gospels and Pauline writings were viewed by the Church Fathers. The rest of the section
demonstrates the Church Fathers and their views of what was to be considered scripture and the

writings to be considered canon. He goes into more depth on the inspiration of the scriptures an
integral part of how the canon came together. The close of the book is appended by two lectures

offers a solid explanation of the formation of the canon chronologically starting with the Hebrew
scriptures (p. 21) until the 4th century where church councils started to present the first spoken

What Is The Similarities Between Hamlet And King Lear
Shakespeare s Hamlet and King Lear are not only exhibitions of human experience but also studies
in the spiritual life of man. Through these two plays Shakespeare has elaborately attempted to get
a meaning out of life, and not to show its mystery or madness despite the fact that madness as
simulation has been a source of fascination in these two tragedies. In Shakespeare s Madness and
Music, Kendra Preston Leonard says that Hamletand King Learultimately focus on crises of family
and power and involve a recurring early modern trope: madness (1). Concerning madness, Foucault
says in Madness and Civilization, that it constitutes the knot more than the denouement, the
peripety rather than the final release (32). Foucault sheds light on the... Show more content on

reason for his inconsistency, but they also acknowledge the fact of his lack of awareness

Ancient Civilization
All ancient civilisations were very well developed. Discuss.
It is evident that most aspects of life in ancient civilisations were well developed. Many aspects of
society in Ancient Greece were very advanced. Ancient Egypt was a very advanced civilisation in
many different parts of life. Ancient Chinese culture, entertainment and architecture were all well
developed, as well as numerous other things.
Many aspects of Ancient Greek society were well developed. Ancient Greek religion was very
advanced, with many gods and goddesses. All the gods and goddesses represented, or were god
of something, for example, Poseidon was god of the sea, storms, earthquakes and horses. They had
many myths and legends about gods with morals to teach lessons and some to explain things, and
some are still told. To the Greeks, worshiping the gods was a part of daily life. Huge temples and
structures were built to honour the gods, which remain today. Architecture in ancient Greecewas
very advanced, with many incredibly well built and designed buildings and sculptures, with some
remaining to his day. An aspect of Ancient Greek architecture that has continued to be used today is
columns. Columns were used in many structures, providing strength and stability. An example of a
building from ancient Greece that used columns is the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to the goddess
Athena, which still stands today. The ancient Greeks were the first known civilization to have a
democracy, this shows that

Discrimination Of Landlords In The US
Race:
Landlords also employ a variety of tactics that discriminate against racial minorities. Common
customs in the housing industry often put non whites, particularly African Americans, at a
disadvantage. For example, screenings for criminal records is a routine practice that landlords use
to identify risky applicants and isolate them. In fact, the most popular how to books for landlords
identify criminal background checks as the best way to minimize liability (Thatcher 2008).
However, criminal screenings disproportionately harm blacks, particularly black males. In the U.S.,
black men are eight times more likely to be incarcerated than white men. Currently more than a
third of young black males without education are in the prison system ... Show more content on

In low income neighborhoods, violence against women is regarded not as a horrific crime but a
mere nuisance to landlords. Instances of domestic abuse often trigger noise complaints or 911 calls
and the additional police involvement in the neighborhood inconveniences landlords. Under the
doctrine of nuisance property ordinance, police departments can fine landlords for their tenants
disruptive behavior. When the police punish landlords for noise complaints, landlords in turn
punish the tenants responsible. In 83% of cases, landlords respond to a nuisance citation for
domestic violence by evicting tenants (Fais 2008). When abuse garners noise complaints, victims
don t face support, they face eviction. Thus, to keep their homes, women stay silent about their
partners violence. Ultimately, women must choose between being battered and being homeless.
Landlords mistreatment of battered women especially harms black women. While black women
only make up 8% of the population, they are 29% of all domestic violence victims (Jones 2014).
Not only are black women disproportionately abused, but they are also overrepresented in nuisance
ordinances. In black neighborhoods, 1 in 16 properties eligible for a citation receive one, compared
with 1 in 41 white properties being fined (Desmond 2016:191). These trends indicate that nuisance
property ordinances are another way in which African Americans receive different treatment

Sigmund Freud s The Interpretations Of Dreams
There are a lot of theories as to why we dream and what dreams mean, if there is a meaning to it
at all. From the beginning of time, there have been records and cultural beliefs influenced by
dreams. Some may see dreams as connection to another world, while others use dreams to
understand our deeper inner selves or conscious. One of the first people to look at dreams from a
scientific perspective was Sigmund Freudin the late 19th century. He believed that dreams had
psychoanalytic importance, and wrote a book titled The Interpretations of Dreams in 1900 (Lavie
66). The way researchers studied and collected data on dreams was tricky. Before sleep
laboratories, there was just the patient s recollection of the dream, which was problematic because...

Lavie discusses that people are more likely to remember their dreams when they wake up during
REM versus any other sleep stages, or a more shallow sleep cycle versus deep sleep. The
memory is also affected by when the person goes to sleep or awaken in the morning, along with
the motivation to remember the dream (Lavie 80). One example of forgetting reoccurring
dreams deal with post traumatic dreams. These dreams are usually frightening and are set in the
area where the individuals traumatic event occurred. Lavie suggests examples of traumatic event
such as war settings, Holocaust survivors, or rape or sexual assault (Lavie 81). Rosalind
Cartwright, a dream researcher, did another study that battled the idea of forgetting dreams or
issues. She believed that dreams are used to process negative emotions to wake up feeling better,
or maintaining a good mood. She used patients who were going through a divorce or depressing
situations and observing if dreams could be a nocturnal therapy (Rock 102). Her studies, and the
studies she influenced, found that most emotions found in dreams are negative, and that positive
life events during wakefulness were a lot less frequent (Rock 103). To check this, Cartwright woke
her patients mid dream and the patients perceived their emotions as negative. Cartwright concludes
that the first REM period may be negative, but each successive REM period improves emotion
until full day wakefulness (Rock 105). Depressed individuals however struggle to improve their
mood or come to a solution may be due to their rumination behaviors. Since they do this during the
day, they may continue this during REM and maintain the negative emotions (Rock 106). I think
this is enlightening because this allows the idea that dreams may be used to consolidate or offer
solutions to

new military leadership was also demanding more funding in exchange for continuous support to
the US goals and to improve the Honduran army. Simply put, the downfall of General Alvarez was
a lesson to the US about not to count on this particular General as a useful/reliable permanent ally.
As the 1985 elections approached, and with reelection prohibited, President Suazo was looking for
ways to nominate a friend, Oscar Mejia Arellano, as continuity of his government. Most Hondurans
understood that no much progress was made during his administration since the US Embassador
Negroponte and General Alvarez basically had guided the country. In 1986 Jose Azcona Hoyos
became president of Honduras. As funding and aid became limited, and the US Contra funding
methods were severely questioned and investigated, the presidency of Azcona was one in which
peace in the region began to unfold. In the US, President Ronald Reagan and his administration left
office in 1988 with high ratings and in Honduras, by the time President Azcona completed his turn
in 1990, the Contra rebels in Nicaragua were demobilizing. Political games, hidden agendas,

Essay on Black Arts Movement
BAM! The Black Arts Movement
The amazing era of the Black Arts Movement developed the concept of an influential and artistic
blackness that created controversial but significant organizations such as the Black Panther Party.
The Black Arts Movement called for an explicit connection between art and politics (Smith). This
movement created the most prevalent era in black art history by taking stereotypes and racism and
turning it into artistic value.
This connection between black art and politics was first made clear in a great essay written by
Larry Neal in the summer of 1968. This essay illustrated the Black Arts Movement s manifesto or
plan. Neal wrote: The Black Arts Movement is radically opposed to any concept of the artist...

Who Is B. F. Skinner Operant Conditioning
INFLUENTIAL FIGURES IN PSYCHOLOGY
B.F Skinner
Have you ever thought about what will happen when a child makes a mistake and gets punished
for it? Next time when he tries again to do the same thing he will do less and less. This is a
theory that B.F. Skinner based his operations on, called operant conditioning. B.F. Skinner was a
leading behaviorist, who rejected introspection and studied how consequences shape behavior.
Introspection is the self observation of one s conscious. Burrhus Frederic Skinner was born on
March 20, 1904 in Susquehanna Depot, Pennsylvania. He grew up in an active household, his
mother being a tough and bright housewife and his father a hard working lawyer. As a child, B.F.
Skinner was active, outgoing, and intelligent, he loved school. After B.F. Skinner successfully
graduated from high school, he enrolled at Hamilton College in New York. Later on, he decided to
go back to school this time at Harvard University to study psychology.
B.F. Skinner had a wife and two daughters. One of the daughters was famous for being
experimented in her father s invention the Skinner box. The air crib, better known as the Skinner
box, is an invention inspired by Skinner s wife. It would keep the baby from crying by allowing
the temperature to be just right for the baby.
B.F. Skinner s main finding in psychology was the operant conditioning theory. Here the individual
is in the course of working in a situation where he or she is retreating in his or her own

By including drills to the practice, I can practice the bomb, kicker, slider and body serves by
placing markers in the service box for each separate serve. After serving for 30 minutes I can do
some smashes for a while. After a big serve, sometimes the opponent pops the ball in the air
giving him time for his next shot but the server may come to net for a smash. A smash is usually
hit, with extreme power leaving the returning player no chance to remain in the point.
(Optimum Tennis, 2015) Therefore having a smash at the ready to finish a point is very
valuable for a player. Practicing well is very important to an athlete so by continuously serving I
can make minor adjustments to my serve if it goes out or feels wrong. By setting up targets;
markers or cones. This allows me to improve accuracy and thought processing during a game. I

Non State Actors Essay
Environment now become a global issue. For that reason, non state actors such as: NGOs and
activists participate to solve this problem. However, their participations are almost affecting
population s idea or cooperating with firms and even lobbying policies (O Neil, 2009). These
actions can be considered as effort of non state actors, but not directly protect environment.
Therefore, non state actors alone is not enough to deal with environmental problems that require a
dependence of them on state actors. This essay will present, analyze the functions of non state
actors and will illustrate the relation between them and states. It cannot be denied the important role
of non state actors in order to tackle environmental issues. Firstly, the propaganda tools and
persuasions are an effective method of non state actors in almost case for influencing people and
businesses about the importance of protecting the environment. According to D Estries (2015),

this poem is laughing at the idea of Songs of Innocence. Blake, or the speaker, is harsh about the

`` Our Story `` By Susan Griffin
In many places throughout the world there are rigid top down cultures and theories on education.
These cultures have been seen in World War II Germany, in literature, and in education. It has been
shown throughout history that these cultures can and will cause many problems to fester as a
result. These issues include the manufacturing of sheep like masses that simply follow what they
are told and taught, the culturelosing its ability to distinguish between what is morally right and
wrong, and the forced masking of emotions and true feelings. The only way to prevent a culture
from simply manufacturing sheep like masses is by encouraging people to not be afraid to stand
out in a crowd and allowing, and even embracing, free thinking.
In Our Story by Susan Griffin there is a complex story involving Heinrich Himmler that she uses
to explain exactly how rigid top down societies and an expectation to be normal can cause a
culture to lose its ability to think critically on a subject. Her first example describes how
Himmler grew up in German in the early 20th century, and how it affected his life and the course
of history. In that time the culture of Germany was of strong patriarchal values and held an
expectation of men to be a strong and masculine image. The problem with this expectation and
Himmler is that Himmler did not fit this image. As a child he was labeled frail and vulnerable,
which was not acceptable in German culture at this time. Because of this he always felt

• 3. An Evaluation Of A Uk Public Limited Manufacturing Company Introduction This report is an evaluation provided to a finance director of a UK public limited manufacturing company, whose subsidiaries are around the world. The company s stock is trading on the London Stock Exchange. The report is going to provide some information about working capital management (WCM). It is commonly known that working capital investment has become a large proportion in a firm s balance sheet. According to Bank of Belgium, the proportion of accounts receivable, payment and inventory were respectively 17%, 13% and 10% of total assets of all Belgian nonfinancial firms in 1997 (Deloof, 2003). There is a similar situation in Spanish firms: there is 69% current assets of total assets and 52% current liabilities of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, firms may lose the early payment discount offered by its suppliers, which may result in more finance costs (Wong, 2002). Trade receivable: Trade receivable may boost sales because it allows customers to access product s quality before paying. The flip side of trade receivable is that capital would be locked in working capital, as a result the company s financial department may face cash flow and liquidity problems (Jose, Lancaster and Stevens, 1996; Lazaridis and Tryfonidis, 2006). Inventory: A larger inventory reduces the risk of stock out and it is also a vehicle to increase sales. The negative side of inventory is the same as trade receivable (Nazir and Afza, 2009; Deloof, 2003). Lazaridis and Tryfonidis (2006) states that an optimum level of inventory will have a direct effect on profitability since it will release cash invested in working capital and could also respond to a high demand. The measurement of WC Cash conversion cycle (CCC) is a widely used WC measurement, which is the time lag between the raw material purchase and the collection of finished goods. The CCC can be calculated as: The cash conversion cycle = Number of days accounts receivable + Number of days inventory Number of days accounts payable payments. In real business operations, CCC as whole and each parts of CCC could be used to measure the efficiency of WCM (Deloof, 2003; GarcГa Teruel and MartГnez Solano, 2007; Lazaridis and Tryfonidis, 2006; Gill, ... • 4. Native Americans And The Americans 1.The initial contact between Native Americans and the Europeans was far more unique than any other racial interaction because the Native Americans were already residing in the United States. As for other ethnic groups, they were foreign to the new soil in Northern America. At first, the Native Americans held hospitality towards the arriving Europeans, whereas, the Europeans did not hold any hospitality towards the arriving immigrants. The Europeans response to the Native Americans hospitality was to slaughter and exploit the entire racefor the mere profit of land access. 2.Certain myths about Native Americans make them feel as if there is no progress within their community. Within the media, Native Americans are often portrayed towards living in archaic conditions with structures such as teepees. These images often lead people to think that the Native community has not evolved with the white society. Thus, when images of Native chiefs and princess s are shown they offend them because they are only represented by the white supremacist viewpoint. These images make people believe that the Natives are stuck at a certain time period. Whenever images like the Nobel Savage are introduced it causes many within the Native community to get fueled with anger because it is not true, for Natives had already developed civilizations amongst their own people with equality for all. The Nobel Savage ideal portrays them as vulnerable people, when in fact; Native Americans were capable of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, it is imperative to understand that the CIA has no hand in policy making; it only provides information and action on specific policies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Intelligence_Agency). The CIA also states, We provide objective, unbiased information and analysis. We stand by one another and behind one another. Service, sacrifice, flexibility, teamwork, and quiet patriotism are our hallmarks. (www.cia.gov). Regardless of public opinion, this is what the CIA stands for and how they represent themselves. The One With The Male Nanny After watching the Friends episode, The One with the Male Nanny, I began to realize why society is so unaccepting of certain sexualities and set on their opinion of acceptable gender roles. In this episode, Rachel and Ross are looking to hire a female nanny to care for their newborn baby. Throughout the episode they go through trial and error to find the perfect femalenanny to nurture and care for their precious child. Their next candidate Sandy knocks on the door, and Rachel and Ross are both in shock that a maleis applying to nanny their child. • 7. Price Gouging In The United States The idea of price gouging can have many different perspectives on it, and is very controversial. Price gouging is when a seller spikes their prices of goods, services, or other purchase products to a level higher than reasonable. Ethically, I do agree with the fact that merchants shouldn t sky rocket their product prices during a state of emergency price gouging. Illegally, price gouging is continuing to affect our labor market and offset the cost of living in many states. Price gouging is continuing to affect the health of many people due to pharmaceutical companies and their major increases in price. Lastly, price gouging just is unjust, immoral, and against the law in states. While there are no federal regulations to price gouging and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Price gouging occurs when a merchant drastically raises their prices on daily necessities. When setting cities living wage and cost of living, the cost of daily necessities plays a role. Cost of living is the amount of money needed to sustain a certain level of living, including basic expenses such as housing, food, taxes and health care. A book called The fundamentals of minimum wage fixing by Francois Eyraud and Catherine Saget talks brief about cost of living and how it is incorporated into minimum wage. The authors gave different ways on how the cost of living is determined. According to the two, they shared that the cost of living is determined by the price of goods (standard necessities to live), and wage statistics submitted by the United States Department of Labor (Eyraud, Saget, 2005). Both living wage and cost of living differentiates by state and cities. Cost of living effects how the government set the nations minimum wage. When merchants continuously raise prices of daily necessities and they are unreasonable, it can affect the cost of living. To prevent this trickle down effect, the United States government should create federal regulations on price gouging to prevent an increase in cost of living which then leads to an increase in minimum wage, which then leads to possible jobs ... • 9. Maltese Falcon Character Analysis Do you ever wonder what makes an intriguing classic novel? Many books appear to fall into the classic category, but few books really turn out to be classics. This topic can go many ways, arguing what really makes a classic, but there is a basic criteria that classics must meet. The book that I analyzed was The Maltese Falcon. This book should not be considered a classic because it does not give the reader a different perspective, there is not a big moral to the story, and because it is not related to real issues. The Maltese Falcon should not be considered a classic because it does not give the reader a different perspective. True classics leave the reader with a different mindset, and The Maltese Falcon fails to do that. For example in the classic, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, you have a different view point at the end of the book. The book gives you a different perspective about the characters and about the obscure door. In the beginning of the book you are unsure about the mysterious door, but in the end you realize that the door has meaning. This simple object leaves you with a different perspective about it. The Maltese Falcon also has a simple object, the falcon itself. The falcon is a main focal point that the reader... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Impossible, you might say, and that would have been the case just a mere two seasons ago when they fell off the cliff and crash landed into the bottom of the Eastern Conference, but the Maple Leafs are a different team now. They have rebuilt, oted, and redeemed themselves in a city where winning has become a dot on the horizon. They have accumulated all of the things that take a team to the playoffs: improved defense, explosive offence, and unbelievably talented goaltending. With the fresh vision of their head coach, Randy Carlyle, the Toronto Maple Leafshave become a team with a shot at the playoffs this season. To begin with, one of the most important reasons why the Leafs have become a contending team this season is because of their outstanding improvement on the blue line. Putting the puck in the net has never been an issue nor a worrisome topic in the city of Toronto. Fans hear the buzzer go off at the ACC regularly and it has been something we have taken pride in. Persuasive Business Messages Essay MANAGEMENT 101 BUSINESS COMMUNICATION Why is it important to present both sides of an argument when writing a persuasive message to a potentially hostile audience? It is important to present both sides of the argument in a persuasive message to a potentially hostile audience because one has to try and avoid angering the audience even more. What one aims to do is to persuade the audience and let them know that they acknowledge the audiences view on the matter at hand. To show that one acknowledges the audiences view, one needs to catch the audience s attention this can be done through addressing their side of the argument letting the audience know that their point of view has been taken into consideration and then explaining to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By stating ones side of the argument one can then explain how the decision made may help or aid the audience in the future therefore it may help increase the audiences desire to change their view on the matter which will more likely lead to a more positive response from the audience than hostility. After collecting all the information on the topic of the matter at hand one can now formulate a way in which they can convey the message to the audience without aggravating or offending the audience. The way in which the persuasive message is to be conveyed should be convenient and most reliable to one s audience. The message has to be written in simple language so that the audience does not misinterpret the message or be offended by the jargon used. Grammatical mistakes have to be minimised in the construction of the message so that the message comes across as having been carefully thought through. It should display good intentions and must not be blaming to the audience but in fact it should help establish a common ground between you and the audience, which will in turn help the smoother flow of communication and understanding between the two parties. Once the message has been created and proof read one would find the correct and most effective way of sending the message to the audience. The first article, Guarantee the PFD, uses the reasoning of a Nobel Laureate and economist. Although this article may seem like the most reasonable choice because it comes with the insight of a highly acclaimed individual, a sizable portion of the article is simply encouraging the reader to act against the new legislation. The article tells the reader about the assets of Alaska that could be used to instead substitute for the dividend shares from the Permanent Fund, but does not go as in depth as the second article s authors do. The Higgs Boson is a particle within the standard Model of physics. It creates weight by interacting with other particles; the more it interacts, the heavier it is. We have a tendency to consider mass as ingrained importance of all things, however the majority of physicists consider that without the Higgs boson, mass fundamentally doesn t exist. Without the higgs boson nothing would exist, this is due to the fact that everything has mass, even miniscule molecules weigh something. The Higgs Boson is not heavy itself(as it is a particle particles are profoundly diminutive) but depending how much it interacts with the particles around it, determines how heavy the particles within the higgs field is. This was all a theory since 1964 until scientists at CERN used the Large Hadron Collider(LHC) to find the theory of the Higgs Boson to be a real particle. The particle decays almost instantaneously so scientists at CERN are trying to slow down the process of decay and evaluate the process. The opening seems realistic Goodman Brown, a young Puritan, leaves his home in colonial Salem to take an overnight trip but his wife s name, Faith, immediately suggests a symbolic reading. Before long, Brown s walk into the dream like forest seems like an allegorical trip into evil. The idea that Hawthorne shows by this trip is that people are attracted to sin through temptation which leads them towards a path of isolation and distrust. The first appearance of a dark imagery is when Goodman Brown describes the road he takes towards the forest, he describes it as a dreary road (8) he also describes all the trees of the forest to appear gloomy like. Another image the author paints is when Goodman Brown is walking down the road he then says that there might be a devilish indian (9) behind the trees. This story clearly represents the struggle of conflict between man and nature. The crewman s dire circumstances place them in a position against nature that provides ample opportunity for them to feel slighted. However, though man may rage against naturewhen confronted by it; nature does not concern itself with the whims of man. Ultimately, I argue that Crane believes nature to be a separate entity entirely that is neither subjective nor wicked but rather exists. However, he does change his perspective when he writes from the angle of man. In this, he shows that nature is in fact personified by humans and given a personality of its own. Crane consistently uses personification when describing nature to attest to this and demonstrates how far interwoven man is with nature. For example, the author states, The third wave moved forward, huge, furious, implacable. It fairly swallowed the dingey... (Crane 21). • 25. Comparison Between Hamlet And Hamlet Hamlet Vs. Hamlet: A Comparison Between Films Laurence Olivier (1948) and Kenneth Branagh (1996) both created films about the Shakespearean play Hamlet, yet they are both very different. The two films were created fifty years apart and present their film using their own perspectives and interpretations of Shakespeare s Hamlet while using the same themes Shakespeare had. Two important themes are the use of technology and treatment of women. In Laurence Olivier s 1948 film, women are objectified; this reflects on the year of production. The abuse in the character roles were more admissibly shown by gender roles. Hamlet is presented as a very controlling person and is very controlling of Ophelia. He manipulates her into having sex with him and shows other forms of relentless abuse towards Ophelia. Furthermore, Hamlet reveals no other signs of affection for her other those of lust. Unlike the version filmed by Kenneth Branagh in 1996, the date filmed is an important factor, as it demonstrated how men interacted with women. In Olivier s film, Hamlet is stereotypically masculine monotonous and aggressive. In the beginning of the first scene, Hamlet appears to be emotionless, until he abruptly points to Claudius and aggressively yells All but one! The scene ends with Hamlet exerting his power over Ophelia by throwing Ophelia to the ground and leaving her on the steps to lure Polonius and Claudius out from behind the curtain. Hamlet realizes what he has done to Ophelia, but leaves the room without helping her up or apologizes for what he has done, even though his plan had failed. It is clear that Hamlet s plan to use Ophelia as bait had failed because they could not have seen him or Ophelia from their side of the curtain. Polonius confirms this when he says, No need to tell us, we have heard it all . In contrast, Kenneth s Hamlet stops once he sees what he had done to Ophelia and goes back to her. Kenneth s Hamlet is more emotional. He sheds tears, expresses pain in his voice, deeply sighs, and overall is less physical with Ophelia. The Menace Of Materialism In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary The Menace of Materialism Written by Gustave Flaubert and published in 1856, Madame Bovary tells a story about the life and death of Emma Bovary, a middle class woman living in mid nineteenth century France. This novel is known as one of the best examples of literary realism ever written, and for good reason. Through his writing and attention to detail, Flaubert does an excellent job of giving the reader an idea of just how mundane everyday life was like in France during the mid nineteenth century. Through the various characters in the novel, Flaubert is also able to portray many positive and negative characteristics he saw in the people living during this time. Of the many different characteristics and ideas that Flaubert uses to describe characters throughout the novel, I think that the many aspects he saw in the bourgeoisie class and materialism are uniquely important. I believe that the ways Flaubert uses the ideas and issues of materialism and similar principles he saw in the bourgeoisie to tell the story of Madame Bovary, to criticize the bourgeoisie, as well as show how harmful and destructive he believed these issues could be to a society. The historical context of the time that Flaubert lived in is a likely reason for his use of the bourgeoisie materialistic ideas. But it never took long for the silence to transition from peaceful to strange and uncomfortable. As exhausted as he was, and as much as he enjoyed the peace, it made him restless. Blindly, Clint reached out and attempted to grab the television remote off the coffee table, without opening his eyes or shifting his body. New Zealand and America interpret news completely differently, what is important in America may have zero relevance to New Zealand media and vis versa. Agenda setting is more obvious in the New York times, they report on specific events to endorse and highlight events or issues in an attempt persuade their audiences how to think and feel about the stories. There is a motivational statement on the bottom, of which the final wording reads by the strength of the leader the power of the pack is unleashed . This concept of the power of the leader is universal in every business, to include nonprofits. But how is a Chief Executive Officer(CEO) or Executive Director (ED) to lead in financial matters when they do not possess a strong financial background? Within the following paragraphs we will look briefly at ways to ensure the CEO or ED are strong financial leaders and steps to utilize in executing this financial leadership. Ensuring Strong Financial Leadership There are some that will say that true leaders surround themselves with great people. Although that may be true, when it comes to the financial health of the organization, simply having a trusted Chief Financial Officer (CFO), financial team, or financial consultant is not enough. A senior executive without an understanding of finance cannot make use of such information or make financial decisions to lead the organization well (Crawford, 2010). So what is an organization to do? The easiest, most effective method is simply to recruit a leader that already has a background in finances. As reported in Forbes magazine, about 30 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs spent the first few years of their careers developing a strong foundation in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this lab is to evaluate the relationship between motor neurons and their associated muscle s electrical activity via neuromuscular junctions through: determining the correlation between EMG (electromyogram) activity and muscle force, observing muscle fatigue, as well as calculating the conduction velocity associated with the Achilles tendon reflex arc. An additional purpose of this lab is to demonstrate the effects of arm circumference and relative dominance on musclefatigue. Hypothesis In the first experiment, as muscle force increases as induced by the subject, it is expected that the EMG activity will elevate likewise due to the directly proportional relationship between contraction strength and the muscle s amount of electrical impulses. Additionally, it is expected that resistance to fatigue will increase with greater forearm circumference due to the greater amount of fatigue resistant slow oxidative fibers. In the third section of this lab, it is anticipated that as path length of a particular reflex arc (in this case, the Achilles tendon reflex) increases, the overall conduction velocity will decrease due to the increased reflex time necessary for the impulse to be conducted up and down longer neurons. Background For all aspects of this lab to be properly understood, the following principles and associated information of the following must be known: the relationship between nerves and their associated muscle(s), how electrical activity is ... This strategy has benefited the company because the local distributors are able to brand the beers to their local market needs. I believe that China and Australia are two markets that have great potential for demand of Grupo Modelo s beers. China recently surpassed the U.S. in total beer consumption. The marketing strategy of branding is not a new concept. A company s brand is not a logo, or a tag line, but rather the relationship it has with its customer base, it is in essence not how a company defines itself but how the public defines it. With every interaction and every customer touch point a business shapes its brand identity, and participants in this exchange are known as a brand community. From the beginning of time, there have been records and cultural beliefs influenced by dreams. Some may see dreams as connection to another world, while others use dreams to understand our deeper inner selves or conscious. One of the first people to look at dreams from a scientific perspective was Sigmund Freudin the late 19th century. He believed that dreams had psychoanalytic importance, and wrote a book titled The Interpretations of Dreams in 1900 (Lavie 66). The way researchers studied and collected data on dreams was tricky. Before sleep laboratories, there was just the patient s recollection of the dream, which was problematic because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The memory is also affected by when the person goes to sleep or awaken in the morning, along with the motivation to remember the dream (Lavie 80). One example of forgetting reoccurring dreams deal with post traumatic dreams. These dreams are usually frightening and are set in the area where the individuals traumatic event occurred. Lavie suggests examples of traumatic event such as war settings, Holocaust survivors, or rape or sexual assault (Lavie 81). Rosalind Cartwright, a dream researcher, did another study that battled the idea of forgetting dreams or issues. She believed that dreams are used to process negative emotions to wake up feeling better, or maintaining a good mood. She used patients who were going through a divorce or depressing situations and observing if dreams could be a nocturnal therapy (Rock 102). Her studies, and the studies she influenced, found that most emotions found in dreams are negative, and that positive life events during wakefulness were a lot less frequent (Rock 103). To check this, Cartwright woke her patients mid dream and the patients perceived their emotions as negative. Cartwright concludes that the first REM period may be negative, but each successive REM period improves emotion until full day wakefulness (Rock 105). Depressed individuals however struggle to improve their mood or come to a solution may be due to their rumination behaviors. Since they do this during the day, they may continue this during REM and maintain the negative emotions (Rock 106). These issues include the manufacturing of sheep like masses that simply follow what they are told and taught, the culturelosing its ability to distinguish between what is morally right and wrong, and the forced masking of emotions and true feelings. The only way to prevent a culture from simply manufacturing sheep like masses is by encouraging people to not be afraid to stand out in a crowd and allowing, and even embracing, free thinking. In Our Story by Susan Griffin there is a complex story involving Heinrich Himmler that she uses to explain exactly how rigid top down societies and an expectation to be normal can cause a culture to lose its ability to think critically on a subject.
