The hypodermic needle model is a communications model from the 1930s that suggests audiences passively receive information transmitted through media without processing or challenging it. The model holds that an intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver. It suggests audiences are manipulated by media creators and their behavior and thinking can be easily changed. The model considers audiences to be passive and homogeneous.
