There are four main types of human tissues: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue. Epithelial tissues cover the body's surfaces and line organs. There are three main types - simple, pseudostratified, and stratified epithelial tissues. Connective tissues are made up of cells within an extracellular matrix that can be loose or dense. Muscle tissues contain specialized contractile cells and are either striated voluntary, striated involuntary, or non-striated involuntary. Nervous tissue is composed of neurons which transmit electrical signals.
