Human rights are basic freedoms that all people should have by virtue of being human. They include the right to life, freedom, health, security, and participation in government. There are two broad types of human rights - those essential for dignified human existence like freedom from slavery, and those that allow for adequate development of human personality like rights to work, property, and family. Human rights are universal and inalienable, meant to satisfy basic human needs and allow people to live freely in society without threat to their humanity.
