Corruption is defined as the absence of honesty and virtue in a society lacking law and order. It takes many forms such as cheating, fraud, and swindling. There are several causes of corruption including a desire to become rich quickly ignoring moral values, rising costs of living that force people to resort to corruption, unemployment, and lack of education that prevents people from electing honest representatives. Some steps that can be taken to reduce corruption include increasing education, launching anti-corruption media campaigns, improving economic conditions, punishing corrupt individuals harshly, strengthening anti-corruption departments, and promoting simple living.
