Clarkson Lumber Case Study
CLARKSON LUMBER CASE STUDY B RADY CLIFFORD DAN HORTON EMIL HYMAS Y
RICH WILKINSON EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Clarkson Lumber Company, owned by Mr. Keith
Clarkson, has been in business for 15 years and currently has 15 employees. Firms who have worked
with Clarkson speak very highly of him, saying that he is conservative and his operating expenses are
low. The company s revenues are projected to continue to grow. Recently, Clarkson Lumber s
accounts payable and notes payable have increased significantly. The company has not been able to
take advantage of trade discounts in recent years because of lack of funds and because of investments
due to the company s growth. While Clarkson Lumber has been increasingly ... Show more content on

Even with the growing trade debt, CLC still was comparable to the overall percentages of other
lumber outlets (see Exhibit 3). It is also important to recognize specific ratios related to the company.
The current ratio, which is helpful in understanding asset liquidity or inefficient use of cash flow,
decreased from 2.5 in 1993 to 1.1 in 1995. High profit companies have a current CLARKSON
LUMBER CASE STUDY FINAN 6022 002 PAGE 2 ratio of 2.52. ROE for Clarkson Lumber
remains relatively steady; it increased from 1993 to 1994 but decreased to 17.1% in 1995. This ROE is
only slightly lower than the ROE for high profit companies which is at 22.1%. After reviewing
Clarkson Lumber s financial situation, several key issues became apparent. First, the company is
clearly growing at an unsustainable rate. Exhibit 3 (various statistical ratios), shows the average
internal growth rate of the company at 6.06% and the average sustainable growth rate at 15.78%.
However, over the three full years analyzed, the company has an average growth margin of 24.5% and
an average asset growth margin of 33.69%. This continues in the forecasted 1996 year as the company
is projected to increase revenue by roughly 21.7%. At the company s current level, it cannot continue
to support its current growth rate going forward and will require more debt to finance this growth.
Therefore, the company seems to be overly reliant on short term financing for its operations.

Discrimination in the United States Today Essay
In the United States today discrimination is still an issue in society. As a society progress has
definitely been made, but it has never fully gone away. Some of the most discriminatory action takes
place in the American justice system. Young minority males between the ages of 25 29 are subject to
being treated the most unfairly while whites of the same age are still being treated better than any race
in this country. African American and Hispanic males are being incarcerated at higher rates than white
males in America. Not only are minorities being incarcerated more, but also they are subject to harsher
sentencing terms, fall victim to police racial profiling, and have disparities in the war on drugs. Also
whites are still the dominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may seem that incarceration rates are high for minorities at the federal level, but the rates are even
higher at the state levels. African Americans are 5.6 times, and Hispanics are 1.8 times more likely to
be incarcerated than whites. Young African American and Hispanic males are leading incarceration
rates for robbery, drug offenses, followed by murder and nonnegligent manslaughter. Whites show a
significant lower number than of the Hispanics and blacks for the violent crimes, but lead
incarceration rates for rape and sexual abuse. Whites also exceeded minorities in property crime
(108,560), compared to blacks (78,197) and Hispanics (38,264) (E. Ann Carson and Daniela Golinelli,
2013). The demographics show that young minority males are being incarcerated at higher rates for
majority of the main crimes
Minorities are being sentence to jail for harsher punishment more than whites in the United States. In
this disparity of the justice system, young white males between the ages of 18 29 were 38% less likely
to be sentences to prison than black men of the same age group (Kansal, 2005). According to Kansal
(2005) Young uneducated or unemployed African American and Hispanic males are more likely to

The Glue That Makes All The Good Grades
Think Back to high school, when you were in class with 30 other students. You do all the work, make
all the good grades and someone else gets all the credit. In my high school days, we called these
people teachers pets . These people made it seem like everything was about them. They wanted to
control everything and most of the students wanted to tell this student off but couldn t because the
teacher would always take their side. Now, in this play we have a mother named Amanda and like the
teacher s pet, Amanda wants to control every aspect of her children s life. May I add, that the children
that she tried to control are well above the legal adult age. The children, like the other students in the
classroom, wanted to tell her off but it wouldn t be of any value because they had no backing. Amanda
is truly the glue that makes this play what it is today. Amanda is the most important character in this
play because she wants to live her life through her kids, everything that went wrong was because of
her, and because of her nagging ways.
Amanda truly wants to live her life though her children life at any cost. Just like any parent Amanda
wants to have her children succeed in life. She truly wants her children to go on and enjoy their life
and I believe that she feels disappointed because she can t give them what they need to survive the rest
of their life s because she isn t financially stable enough for this. Since she can t give them what they
need, she pushes them to

Consumption Overpopulation and Its Effects on the Environment
Consumption Overpopulation
Think about a sign that says EARTH Max Capacity 10 billion. Based on what they have the human
population plans out parties. They have a lack of space and resources. Anyone who would plan these
parties would have to take in account for the amount of people that would have to scrunch in with
each other, and how many people would not have enough food to last the party. Which basically
makes it so the guests are down to a certain number. Our planet is a close similarity to the already
mentioned party. Just like how a large room can only offer a certain amount of resources. Despite this
idea, the concepts of overpopulation, and resource degradation still are at large and are a risk.
The concept of the word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately the behaviorisms of the commons amount to overusing the resources and misdistribution of
all the resources in the environment (Burke 2001). The very same Burke argues that the lack of
awareness about the topic of resource degradation and over consumption proves that Hardin s theory
is drastically flawed. The very first idea is the fatalistic belief program that block the actual risk
perception. Humans can not harm the Resource Base (p.449). The second premise is that the
complicity of the concerns regarding the environment blocks the individual awareness of risk. He
Concludes that a call for education and consensus building (P.472) in raising the environmental risk of
awareness.
Comparison and Contrast
Environmental
Environmental risk perceptions also allowing loss aversion, unrealistic optimistic attitude, and
heuristic assist in understanding the way humans go towards their resource consumption problem.
Praterelli and Chiarelli go to resource overuse, and the degradation of the various resources. Also not
to mention the overpopulation of consumption from the loss aversion standpoint. The idea of
technology becomes a medium when it comes to avoiding the immediate losses although having the
long term or evolutionary factorials. On the flip side, Burke approaches the environment risk factors
from two risk theories; unrealistic happiness and heuristic sort of availability. The

Casey Martin Case Summary
Facts:
Casey Martin is a talented golfer with many achievements throughout his golf career. He also has a
disability under the ADA, known as the Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, affecting the flow of
blood from this right leg back to his heart. The disease is progressive, causing severe pain, where if he
walked an 18 hole golf course, it would create a risk of hemorrhaging, developing blood clots, etc.
When Martin became a professional golfer, he qualified for the final round of the qualifying
competition. He made a request to use a golf cart during the professional tours, supporting his
reasoning with medical records; PGA Tour, Inc. refused because the competitive nature of the game
would be fundamentally altered if Martin were given an unfair advantage.
Martin filed a suit under Title III of the ADA, which requires that an entity operating public

Child Labor, Slavery, And Human Trafficking
Despite their role in contributing to child labor, slavery, and human trafficking, the chocolate industry
has not taken significant steps to remedy the problem. Within their $60 billion industry, chocolate
companies have the power to end the use of child labor and slave labor by paying cocoa farmers a
living wage for their product. The chocolate industry is also being called upon to develop and
financially support programs to rescue and rehabilitate children who have been sold to cocoa farms.
To date, the industry has done little to remove child labor, let alone aid survivors of child labor.

There are two distinct types of cocoa plants: Criollo and Forastero. The Criollo variety is the most
sensitive of the cocoa plants, and any shifts in climate can have an adverse affect on its already low
yield. In an attempt to blend the hardiness of the Forastero plant with the delicate flavors of the Criollo
plant, the two were hybridized into a third plant, Trinitario, which accounted for 20% of all production
in 2008, although it s steadily developing a following. Regardless of the cocoa variety, the production
cycle is the same. On average, cocoa trees take five years to reach maturity and bear fruit, at which
time only a total of about 20 pods might be ready for harvest. As a rule of thumb, 10 pods produce 2.2
pounds of cocoa, so the average tree can produce only a little over four pounds of cocoa. Interestingly,
the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Indonesia account for more than 70% of the world s cocoa production, and
most of that production comes from small plantations. Once the cocoa beans are dried out, they are
shipped to the manufacturer. They are shipped in food safe jut bags that are treated with vegetable oil.
They can only be used once because they have to be clean and strong enough. These bags have to be
disposed after one use which makes them not environmentally friendly. Once on the ship, they are
stored in a large containment room. The dried cocoa beans release a large amount of carbon

correctional officer Essay
correctional officer CAREER RESEARCH REPORT
The career I have chosen to pursue after graduation is a Correctional Officer.
Correctional Officer s have been around for a very long time and were designed to keep major
offenders off the street after they have been arrested by the Police. The offenders are put in a holding
cell at a Pre Trial Centre awaiting their court date.
Correctional Officers are a very important part of the Justice System because it keeps high profile
criminals off the street and locked up even before they are proven innocent or guilty. The Correctional
Facility in many ways is a lot like a jail, from what I saw when I toured the new Pre Trial Centre in
Port Coquitlam. There are large thick metal doors to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new prisoner is then admitted into their pod . Rather than keep ALL the inmates together in one
large group, they are broken down into smaller groups. Each group lives in their own pod. Each pod
had a central living space and outside fresh air lounge. The individual cells surround the living area
and there are three additional floors that overlook the central living space that you reach by inside
stairs. Each level contains approximately 10 individual cells. Some information was not available to
us (the public) as it is confidential. Information such as how many Officers work in a pod per shift.
The inmates are served their meals in the central living space and it the Correctional Officers job to
count everything they take. Items such as jam containers, plastic knives and forks are made into
weapons by the ingenious inmates. After they are given their meals and have had time to go to the
gym, they are then put back into their cell for the night.
Working in a Correctional Facility is a very stressful environment. Everything is done by the book and
not following the protocol could mean termination of your employment. A Corrections Officer is a
Government job which means you get a great salary that could range from $35,000.00 $70,000.00 a
year. You get great benefits with health care and dental care. There are Correctional Facilities all over
Canada, which means this job could allow you to move all over the country. Also, if you work in the

Flatbed Truck Case Study
This is what I heard:
In general things seems to be going well. One safety incident had occurred with taking the sides off a
flatbed truck. Trace had concerns with the amount effort required to report the incident and develop an
action plan. He was also concern with how the action plan could be implemented and the larger
operational implications for utilizing the flatbed truck. Trace explained that a two person lift doesn t
seem feasible, since the panels are not the large and having two people lift them may cause additional
issues/complications (e.g. you won t always have two people available to lift the rails). Redesign of
the bed could be expensive and would require support to be permanently installed, which could cause
access issues. The second CPS flatbed truck has a different rail system design with swing gates, but it
causes access issues.
Trace also mentioned concerns with the process for developing a ... Show more content on

successful year. The crew seemed in good spirts and felt like the season was going well. IAB is happy
with the work CPS has completed and the relationship still appears strong.
Trace is frustrated with level of effort require for incident reporting and seems to feel that HSE is
being unreasonable in how they implement solutions. This should be an engineered truck rail system
that appears to be design for a single person lift. Side rails only seemed to weigh about 30 lbs. Trace is
typically one of our biggest advocates for safety, so his concern most likely have some validity. Trace
mentioned that it isn t worth reporting if it is going to require this much effort and we can t find a
reasonable solution. These types of comments concern me. We need to make sure we have buy in from

A Personal Review Of David Foster Wallace s Letter To Me
I hope this letter finds you well. My mother recently received a letter in the mail pertaining to my
child support, which stated that the state has decided to increase the money I receive from my father
by 0.67%. I understand this is what the state has calculated to be the appropriate amount I need to
thrive as a young woman living in the 21st century in the United States. However, I believe this
conclusion was met erroneously as it is based on generalized statistics which are then calculated to fit
my lifestyle, which only people who have met me would know. Nonetheless, when determining the

it since third grade. When I was younger I d calculate the cost of college with two parents put into

Welcome To Nightvale Poem Analysis
A common theme in both Welcome to Nightvale and War of the Worlds is that original assumptions
can misleading. War of the Worlds utilises sentence structure to bring the concept that experiencing
death and horror will increase the appreciation of life to the forefront of the reader s mind.
Contrastingly the serious elements of death and horror are masked under the aural techniques of
Welcome to Nightvale through music. The audience expectations of Welcome to Nightvale are
inverted through the weather section in Welcome to Nightvale which is non diegetic sound because it
is a song or instrumental item that alludes to the darker elements of the episode. These elements are

Similarly, War of the Worlds uses scientific language, actual real places and media extracts to develop
the reader s connection to the real world and the novel. The two texts then hold greater influence over
the reader s emotions and understandings of the world around them which in turn develop contrasting
beliefs about the nature of horror and death. However Welcome to Nightvale s narrative realism which
influences an audience s reactions to horror and fear is lessened through the use of Absurdism.
Absurdist imagery such as in episode 2 GLOW CLOUD a lion, like the kind you see on the sun baked
plains of Africa or a pee stained enclosure at a local zoo, fell on top of the White Sand Ice Cream Shop
allows the reader to separate themselves from the horror within an episode and instead connect with
the philosophical intentions of Finke and Cranor, which is that sometimes you go through things that
seem huge at the time as a mysterious glowing cloud devouring your entire community. While they re
happening they feel like the only thing that matters, and you can hardly imagine that there s the world
out there that can have anything going on. Both texts envelop narrative structure to draw parallelisms
between reality and fiction which deepen the reader s emotional connection but the

Abstract Over current in a power system is a situation when a larger than rated electric current exists
through a conductor, leading to excessive generation of heat, and the risk of fire or damage to
equipment Possible causes for over current include short circuits, excessive load, incorrect design, or a
ground fault. This paper presents the design and implementation of a microcontroller based
overcurrent relay for safe, reliable and efficient operation of power systems. Automated overcurrent
protection is done by programming a Arduino (microcontroller) with standard ABB moderately
inverse relay characteristics where the relay operates automatically in a permissible time whenever
there is an over current (abnormal or fault condition) in a power system [2].

The Sun Ernest Hemingway
Outside reading assignment
In the sun also rises Hemingway s character development of Jake Barnes helps us understand the
theme of this book. The way Hemingway does this is through the diction and character development
of Jake. Jakes character development is built through a character foil with Robert Cohn, which
emphasizes jakes character. Then this character development helps bring the reader to the theme of
identity.
Furthermore Ernest Hemingway builds the character of Jake by making him the character foil of
Robert Cohn which helps emphasize not only jakes character, but also Jake s flaw. Jakes flaw can be
interpreted through the character foil as him summiting to what life during the war was like even after
the war. Jakes flaw is caused by the hardships he endured during the war, which makes Jake come to

We see his insecurity when he says at the Cathedral, I was a little ashamed, and regretted that I was
such a rotten Catholic, but realized there was nothing I could do about it , which tells us that he is

anything about his problem because when he says, , at least not for a while, and maybe never , he
knows the problem is there but dismisses it by saying never.
To conclude Jake in the sun also rises is important to the book s plot because Hemingway builds Jake
s character through a character foil to emphasize Jake s overall character, and that character
development contributes to the theme of identity which Jake thinks he has under control but actually
doesn t. The fact that he doesn t have his identity under control explains Jake s strong acceptance to

Implant of RFID tags in human body has more pros than cons
1.0 Introduction
RFID is the wireless non contact use of radio frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data. The
purposes of automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects. Since RFID tags can be

Some benefits of this include less patient mix up, being able to access the patient information in real
time, and fewer mistakes due to human error during data recording. Productivity would increase since
the doctors and nurses would not have to go to a computer to enter in the updated information. This
would allow doctors and nurses to focus more on their professional duties
Alzheimer disease, the most common form of dementia which has no cure till date, the most common
symptoms is difficult to remember recent events. This has place great burden on caregivers as they
have to constantly look after the patient, worrying them lose track in middle of nowhere. By
implanting RFID tags in those patients, it is easy to identify and monitor the location and keep track of
those patients with Alzheimer disease for their safety purposes.
Alerting services can identify possible human errors and warn care providers in case of danger. For
example, automatic sponge counting by RFID can avoid sponge left inside the patient body.
2.1.1 Evidence 1) VeriChip, the company that hold the rights and patents to the implantable chip for
humans, has sold 7,000 chips with 2,000 of which have been placed in people, according to Scott
Silverman, chairman of Applied Digital, which owns VeriChip. The company s present focus is
tagging high risk patients, such as those with diabetes, heart conditions or Alzheimer s. (July 30, 2007)

Bible Study Of Jeremiah Chapter 1 Essay
Bible Study of Jeremiah Chapter 1
In our Bible Study today, we will work through the first chapter of the book of Jeremiah. It introduces
the prophet, narrates his calling, presents two oracles and ends with an encouragement for Jeremiah.
We will start by reading the whole chapter.
Jeremiah Chapter 1 is divided into four parts (Fretheim: 2002:45):
Introduction of the author and historical context (v. 1 3)
Jeremiah s calling (v. 4 10)
Two oracles (v.11 16)
Final encouragement (v.17 19)
We will now go through the different parts of the book and its meaning.
1. Introduction (v.1 3)
The author
These verses introduce the author Jeremiah. He belonged to a priestly family, the son of Hilkiah, one
of the priests at Anathoth. Jeremiah was also a prophet. Longman (2009:21) explains that prophets
were people who have had an encounter with God and been commissioned by him for their task . It
was important for the prophet to describe his identity and calling before presenting his oracles so that
people would believe him. This is why Jeremiah starts the book introducing himself, and his calling
from God that gave him authority as a prophet.
The historical context
The verses 2 and 3 give us a short overview of the time in which this book was written. Jeremiah
began prophesying in Judah in 626 BC, halfway through the reign of Josiah (640 609 BC). Josiah s
father and grandfather did what was evil in the Lords eyes. They were known for their idolatrous
practices (2 Chronicles

Courtney Moreno
In the article GSW Courtney Moreno states the patient was a GSW: gunshot wound. The patient s
information was unknown so he was referred as John Doe. He was heavily tattooed so they assumed
he was a gang member. The Police arrived and were on scene much sooner than the EMTs were. They
didn t call it in because they thought he was dead. While they were looking for clues towards the case,
they noticed the patient was still alive. The piece of his mind that controlled his breathing remained,
amazingly, in place. They rushed him to the ER. They then knew this was a case of a dying man. The
patient passed away in the ER. Moreno s partner didn t think he was worth saving. Moreno didn t

To begin, Moreno notes, It was my first GSW and I was very much a rookie at the time (605). Moreno
didn t have hands on experience, so she didn t know how to handle the situation and didn t know what
to expect. Moreno was a rookie and rookies aren t used to their work environment yet, so this could
have been out of Moreno s comfort zone. She had to rely on her partners so she probably felt helpless
towards the patient. This quotation shows that she was not emotionally prepared for this life
threatening situation. Next, Moreno states, I saw brain, I kept thinking (605). Moreno kept putting into
thought of what she witnessed. Moreno seemed uncomfortable since it was the first human brain she s
seen. This new experience can have an effect on her and make her realize what can lie ahead. This
quotation shows she is mortified of seeing John Doe s brain. Then Moreno remarks, I had the strangest
feeling while watching him (605). Moreno s feelings were getting the best of her at this moment.
Moreno was starting to get emotionally involved with the case, and feeling sympathy for John Doe s
family. However, in the medical field it is recommended to not be emotionally involved in a patient s
case because it can interfere with one s ability of working. This quotation shows she was having
empathy for his family s

Marx and the Bourgeoisie Essay
In this essay I plan to analyze the claim by Karl Marx that the bourgeoisie class produces its own
gravediggers . I will first present a definition of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat classes along with
what Marx means by his claim. After discussing Marx s claim and his support I will assert that his
claim is false and was based on a false assumption. I will argue that Marx does not allow the
possibility of an adaptation on behalf of the bourgeoisie. Furthermore, that Marx contradicts his claim
with his own ideologies from his critique of capitalism. Finally, Marx adopts historical determinism to
support his view which has proven to be flawed. The claim that the bourgeoisie produces its own
gravediggers is based on circumstantial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see, therefore, how the modern bourgeoisie is itself the product of a long course of development,
of a series of revolutions in the modes of production and of exchange. (Marx, 424). In this sense, the
bourgeoisie have the ability to change since they themselves are products of revolutions. In other
terms, the bourgeoisie are an always changing class that has found ways to stay in power through
political hegemony over the proletariat class. Marx conjures the proper preconditions for a successful
rebellion but again contradicts himself through his own ideologies. Although Marx believes that
capitalism will be responsible for the proletariat rebellion it is the same system that will estrange man
from each other and thus prevent a successful revolt.
Marx asserts certain preconditions that must exist in order for a rebellion to take place. Marx believes
that capitalism provides these preconditions and therefore a revolt by the proletariat class is inevitable.
As discussed in Professor Kathryn Walker s lecture, Marx describes four preconditions for a
successful social rebellion, A mass of people for rebellion, a problem to rebel against, a common
experience and identification of the problem. (Walker, 2005). Marx is correct in identifying the
necessary preconditions yet does not take into consideration that just because the conditions are set
does not mean a rebellion is inevitable. Marx displays how

Use Of Illusion And Hide Reality Plays A Heavy Role On...
The use of illusion to hide reality plays a heavy role in William Shakespeare s Othello . Illusion is
used frequently throughout the play in relation to love, friendship and character personalities. Some
characters, especially Othello, cannot see through the illusion and assume what they see as reality.
Iago, however, uses this to his advantage by creating multiple illusions to manipulate the other
characters for power and revenge.
Iago is seen by most of the characters as an honest and trustworthy man who is always willing to listen
and give advice. Cassio, one of the characters who is fooled by the illusionary personality Iago has
created, says I never knew/ a Florentine more kind and honest (III.i.38 39). The audience however
knows that this is not the case, since at the beginning he says I am not what I am (I.i.62), meaning that
he has created an illusion of himself to fool others into believing he is trustworthy. Iago states I follow
him to serve my turn upon him (I.i.39), meaning that he only pretends to be loyal to Othello, acting as
a good servant so that when the opportunity arises, Othello will not suspect him of sabotaging his
marriage. Throughout the entire play, he pretends to be Othello s friend, feigning reluctance in voicing
his suspicions about an affair between Desdemona and Cassio. He gains Othello s trust by being a
good friend who is honest enough to tell him such horrible news. Iago creates the illusion of the affair
by filling Othello s mind

CONSENT FOR ZELTIQ COOLMINI®
CoolMini® is a cryolipolytic process used in adults to treat visible fat and affect the appearance of lax

to draw in tissue and deliver controlled cooling at the surface of the skin to target and kill fat cells.
Then, the body eliminates dead cells over a period of weeks. This improves appearance by helping
you lose unwanted fat in your face and neck. Desired results may take more than one treatment. The
results are long term but vary by individual. Submental fat bulges and laxity are cosmetic issues that

Dermatology Essay
Experimental Dermatology Research and TPM
Arguably, the immune system is where multiphoton microscopy has had the greatest impact in basic
dermatological studies in both the steady state and during inflammation where it is possible to study
real time single cells and molecules within an intact living environment. Currently, the most common
sites for intravital multiphoton imaging of the skin in mice include the ear (Roediger et al., 2008), hind
footpad (Graham et al., 2009), and dorsal skin (Amornphimoltham et al., 2011). The footpad is an
attractive site for imaging as it is hairless, whilst hair removal is essential in ear and back skin due to
the autofluorescence of hair shafts obscuring image acquisition (Li et al., 2012b, Roediger et ... Show

TPM microscopy can also be enhanced by combining it with other optical techniques. Using a Cre
inducible E cadherin GFP transgenic mouse model, Erami and co workers combined TPM and FRAP
to assess alteration in cadherin based cell cell junction integrity in the setting of tumour progression
(Erami et al., 2016). While this is not a comprehensive review of all the advances made through
multiphoton imaging of the skin, these examples serve to demonstrate that this technology has
significantly advanced our understanding of the spatio temporal interactions of immune cell subsets in
lymphoid organs and peripheral tissues including the skin (Germain et al., 2012). Moreover, while
animal models are able to elucidate basic cellular and molecular mechanisms to obtain real time
quantifiable details of complex biological mechanisms in intact tissues, the ultimate goal is to translate
our understanding into clinical applications. Clinical Dermatology and TPM
Multiphoton microscopy is now being considered a potential non invasive diagnostic tool in
dermatology as the skin is very accessible for imaging. Although currently it is only possible to derive
structural information from autofluorescent signals within human tissue in vivo, TPM is able to
provide near histological grade images without the need for a skin biopsy or tissue processing. The use
of autofluorescence as a source of natural contrast has been demonstrated in reflectance confocal
microscopy. However,

The Cyber Security Risks Report
SQLinjection is a kind of attack that occurs through insertion or injection of a SQL query from the
input data of the client to the application for repelling the database information even though the
database is not directly connected with the internet. Jeff Orieff (2015) explained that the top Cyber
Security Risks report revealed that over 60% of the Internet attacks were launched against Web
Applications. Many IT Managers, Web Developers, and site owners are not aware of the threats in
their web applications.Important changes that took place to the list are its focus being shifted from the
top vulnerabilities to top risks. Organizations are aware of the risk, but they lack complete knowledge
in the list of methods that describes and explains the risk. SQL Injection works to make the risk much
more clear. Two risks were dropped from this update: Malicious File Execution due to tighter PHP
security lowering the prevalence of this problem, and Information Leakage and Improper Error
Handling because of a zed impact of disclosing stack trace that is minimal and the error message

flaws are SQL, HTTP header injection, OS command injections. The attacks occur when unauthorized
data, query, command or arguments is sent to an interpreter. Vulnerable applications can be triggered

Tax Credit In Canada
In Canada, students attending university or college are entitled to a tuition, education and textbook tax

of this policy is to support post secondary students in pursuing their higher education. However, this
method of the government in helping students to finance their post secondary education has always
been an issue and there are different opinions towards this tax credit.
From the view of Canada government, Canada Revenue Agency describes this tuition, education and

Vertical equity means charging more tax from individuals with higher ability to pay tax. Based on
Haig Simons definitions, the ability of paying tax is dependent on the individual s ability to consume.
Students with higher income or from wealthier families have a higher consumption ability. However,
the tax credit provides the same amount of subtraction from students tax payable, no matter if they

treatment is needed in establishing vertical equity for this tuition, education and textbooks tax credit.
For example, (give out different tax credit to students based on their income (?)) Despite of the

Energy Sources For Alternative Energy
The constant increase and release of carbon dioxide emissions into our environment have drastic
effects on our environment. These greenhouse gases warm the earth impacting its naturally occurring
events and processes, such as acid rain, destruction of natural habitats, and even influencing the
natural flow of the currents in our oceans. The goal has been to create diverse methods of generating
powerful, dependable energy sources that do not have negative repercussions on our environment.
Alternative energy refers to sources that do not create undesired consequences, such as fossil fuels do
(Alternative Energy 2015). Not only are emissions from fossil fuels concerning, but also these
resources are not going to be available for our use forever, making changes for alternative energy
sources a pressing topic of discussion. British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell, two of the world s
largest oil companies, predict that by 2050, one third of the world s energy will have to come from
some type of alternative energy source (Alternative Energy 2015). Constant growth of population,
climate changes, and depletion of fossil fuels makes it necessary for renewables to play a bigger role
in powering our world. These resources are often thought to be free sources of energy because they are
naturally occurring events used to form electric power (Alternative Energy 2015). In addition, all of
these forms have a large decrease in carbon emissions compared to conventional energy sources

Pope Boniface Viii s Challenges To The King
Pope Boniface VIII s Challenges to the Kingship of Philip s
Pope Boniface VIII wrote the bulls, Clericis Laicos in 1296 and Unam Sanctam in 1302, to affirm and
perform the papal supremacy over his ecclesiastical persons and the kings, Philip IV of France and
Edward I of England. Both bulls consist of the decrees that restrain the rulers from enforcing their
derogatory authority over Christians: one forbids prelates and churchmen to pay the tax that laymen
heavily imposed on them: the latter one demands suspected clergies under the papal jurisdiction,
furthermore insisting the pope s total authority over his churchmen in France. Philip had knocked off
Clericis Laicos by depriving Boniface of a major revenue source, yet the pope again threw down the
gauntlet against the rulers with the new threat of excommunication. Although both bulls indicate the

without any exception. However, Boniface considered Philip s preparation of the war as a plot to
pursue his power over the church s possessions. Therefore, he denounced the king s overtaxation on
the churchmen as though he suspected the king of striving to subject the churchmen to slavery and
bring them under his control. (Robinson) However, Boniface mildly reacted to the heavy taxation on
the clergies in which he merely forbade them to pay their tax rather than directly objecting to the king.
With indignation toward Boniface s reaction, Philip threatened to jolt Apostolic Palace in an
economical way. Therefore, it was inevitable for him to withdraw his hand from Clericis

The fact that he took drugs and a knife to school tells us that he doesn t care about his education or

It showed that Bender had kind of taken a liking to Brian. Who probably took a lot of confidence from
it as demonstrated by the relaxed and confident demeanor he had after he put them on. Brian thought
that if he could wear glasses like Bender did, that he would become a little more like him. One last
thing about Artifacts, and I hate writing about the end of the movie in the middle of a paper, but when
Allison takes a patch off of Andy s letterman jacket, it warmed my heart a little. Her taking the patch,

Jane Smiley s Growing Up At Home
I. Thesis Statement: Parents have to become more aware of the affect they are having on their children
when they do no implement chores into a child s day to day activities. Chores help establish good
work ethics in which children will need as they grow into adult life. Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a
child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6 King
James Version). Chores should not be looked at as the leftover job a parent does not want to do but
more as experiences and learning lessons that carry on with a child throughout life. Gearing up a child
to become a hard worker is a tough job, and as a parent you have to be prepared to put in the work.

I remember when I was still in the house with my parents my chore was to wash the dishes on
Wednesday evening. No biggie that was a simple task to complete even though I was washing for 9
people; and my mother didn t believe in a dish washer so it was all by hand. I never looked at the
situation as if my parents only have me doing this because they didn t want to do it. I was always told
that there is a reason why someone wants you to do something and in this case my parents were
setting each one of us for success; plain and simple. Millennials (Generation Y, born between 1980
and 2000) are the new generation that is so involved in the world of digital technology. My question to
myself is do millennials appreciate the importance of chores? I have to answer that question with a no
they do not know the importance of chores. With all the new technology and the lack of guidance;
whether it be from a lazy parent or even a lack of a parent in the household chores were a thing of the
past. The IRobot Roomba has taken the place of a vacuum cleaner, one less chore for the household.
When technology has now been set up to do the chore for you how can any structure or accountability
be instilled in a

A Study On The Indus River Valley
Starting in the Indus River Valley then eventually spreading all over the world, Hinduism is one of the
oldest religions in the world. Starting with the writing of one of the sacred texts, the Vedas in a time
frame of 1500 600 BCE. One of the focal points of the religion is the idea of dharma. In Hinduism,
dharma means the truth or a way of life that all followers should adhere to in their best interest. It s an
obligation that every Hindu has to follow or he s subject to a reincarnation that is worse than their
current life. While the rise of Hinduism took place in the Indus River Valley, Buddhism started in
approximately 500 BCE as a reform movement within Indian religions in the Ganges. The Buddha of
our age, Siddhartha was born in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start, looking at the aspect of who Dharma applies to in society is vastly different in Buddhism and
Hinduism. When looking to Hinduism, their religion is based upon the caste system as to determine
what your dharma is. The caste system consists of 4 different classifications such as Brahmins (priests
and teachers), Kshatriyas (rulers and warriors), Vaishyas (merchants), and Shudras (servants) (Oxtoby
and Segal, 291). In these four castes you are born into, you are given a set obligations that you have to
fulfill before you die. Your next life in the reincarnation cycle will be determined by how well you
completed your previous tasks. If you did a good job you can move up the caste system, if not you can
move down the caste and even to the most insignificant creature in nature. While on the other hand,
Buddhism has a much more holistic approach to dharma, that it is a universal force. In all sects of
Buddhism there is inclusion that anyone can seek enlightenment. There are not designated moral
codes for each individual rather that everyone has a similar dharma to follow. Believing the Buddha s
understanding of those realities to be definitive, generations of thinkers studied, and systematized his
insights, creating a program of instruction that anyone seeking enlightenment could follow (Oxtoby
and Segal, 385). What this tells us about the religions is that Hinduism is much stricter when it comes
to who

In The Bedroom Analysis
The short story Killings is written by Andre Dubs which later recreated into a motion picture film
called In the Bedroom by director Todd Field in 2001. Both the short story Killings and the film In the
Bedroom highlights the themes of love and revenge. It shows how far a person would go for the
people they love. The short story was named Killings because it not only focuses on two deaths but
the multiple types of death and different aspects of it. Reading the short story Killings and watching
the film In the Bedroom I noticed many differences between the two. For example in the short story
Killings Matt and Ruth had 3 kids and some grandchildren. In the film In the Bedroom Frank was the
only child. I believe the direction Todd Field made this change because he wanted us to focus on the
idea of how painful it to lose a child, and how it can affect the relationship between the parents. I
honestly thought that was really smart of the director to do since it made us feel how hard it most of
been for Matt and Ruth to lose their only child. And how losing Frank made their love for each other
kind of disappear. Another differences between the short story and the film was that in Killings the
story started off at Frank funeral and later flashback of what had occurred. In the film In the Bedroom
the story started from the beginning with Frank and his lover Natalie running in a field, which kind of
made the story plot go in chronological order.

The American Dream in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
The struggle for financial security and success has always been prominent in the American culture.
The idea of the American dream captures the hearts of so many, yet leaves almost all of them enslaved
in the endless economic struggle to achieve high status, wealth, and a house with a white picket fence.
In Arthur Miller s, Death of a Salesman, we see how difficult it is for Willy Loman and his sons to
achieve this so called American dream. In Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin in the Sun, she examines an
African American family s struggle to break out of the poverty that is preventing them from achieving
some sort of financial stability, or in other words the American dream. Both plays explore the desire
for wealth, driving forces that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I drive a man around in his limousine and I say, yes, sir; no, sir; very good, sir; shall I take the Drive,
sir? Mama, that ain t no kind of job...that ain t nothing at all (Hansberry pg.73). When considering
Willy s circumstance, he insists that he is crucial to the company he works for, if old man Wagner was
alive I d a been in charge of New York now (Miller pg. 4) and that he should be a leader by now rather
than simply being an employee. These quotes exemplify the idea that believing you deserve better
than you currently have is a powerful force that encourages the struggle for the American dream. A
final major similarity between the two plays is the fact that both of the men face prejudice for things
that they cannot control. For Walter, a prejudice exists because of his skin color. He dreams of having
the same opportunities as the white men and in this quote he expresses that to his mother Mama
sometimes when I m downtown, I pass them cool quiet looking restaurants where them white boys are
sitting back and talking bout things...sitting there turning deals worth millions of dollars (Hansberry
pg. 74). Death of a Salesman only features white characters, however, a different type of prejudice is
shown in the play. Because Willy is much older now, he doesn t feel like he possess the energy or the
capacity to continue making long trips. When this conclusion leads Willy to be fired, he pleads with
Howard saying, You can t eat the

Clarkson Lumber Case Study CLARKSON LUMBER CASE STUDY B RADY CLIFFORD DAN HORTON EMIL HYMAS Y RICH WILKINSON EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Clarkson Lumber Company, owned by Mr. Keith Clarkson, has been in business for 15 years and currently has 15 employees. Firms who have worked with Clarkson speak very highly of him, saying that he is conservative and his operating expenses are low. The company s revenues are projected to continue to grow. Recently, Clarkson Lumber s accounts payable and notes payable have increased significantly. The company has not been able to take advantage of trade discounts in recent years because of lack of funds and because of investments due to the company s growth. While Clarkson Lumber has been increasingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even with the growing trade debt, CLC still was comparable to the overall percentages of other lumber outlets (see Exhibit 3). It is also important to recognize specific ratios related to the company. The current ratio, which is helpful in understanding asset liquidity or inefficient use of cash flow, decreased from 2.5 in 1993 to 1.1 in 1995. High profit companies have a current CLARKSON LUMBER CASE STUDY FINAN 6022 002 PAGE 2 ratio of 2.52. ROE for Clarkson Lumber remains relatively steady; it increased from 1993 to 1994 but decreased to 17.1% in 1995. This ROE is only slightly lower than the ROE for high profit companies which is at 22.1%. After reviewing Clarkson Lumber s financial situation, several key issues became apparent. First, the company is clearly growing at an unsustainable rate. Exhibit 3 (various statistical ratios), shows the average internal growth rate of the company at 6.06% and the average sustainable growth rate at 15.78%. However, over the three full years analyzed, the company has an average growth margin of 24.5% and an average asset growth margin of 33.69%. This continues in the forecasted 1996 year as the company is projected to increase revenue by roughly 21.7%. At the company s current level, it cannot continue to support its current growth rate going forward and will require more debt to finance this growth. Therefore, the company seems to be overly reliant on short term financing for its operations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Discrimination in the United States Today Essay In the United States today discrimination is still an issue in society. As a society progress has definitely been made, but it has never fully gone away. Some of the most discriminatory action takes place in the American justice system. Young minority males between the ages of 25 29 are subject to being treated the most unfairly while whites of the same age are still being treated better than any race in this country. African American and Hispanic males are being incarcerated at higher rates than white males in America. Not only are minorities being incarcerated more, but also they are subject to harsher sentencing terms, fall victim to police racial profiling, and have disparities in the war on drugs. Also whites are still the dominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may seem that incarceration rates are high for minorities at the federal level, but the rates are even higher at the state levels. African Americans are 5.6 times, and Hispanics are 1.8 times more likely to be incarcerated than whites. Young African American and Hispanic males are leading incarceration rates for robbery, drug offenses, followed by murder and nonnegligent manslaughter. Whites show a significant lower number than of the Hispanics and blacks for the violent crimes, but lead incarceration rates for rape and sexual abuse. Whites also exceeded minorities in property crime (108,560), compared to blacks (78,197) and Hispanics (38,264) (E. Ann Carson and Daniela Golinelli, 2013). The demographics show that young minority males are being incarcerated at higher rates for majority of the main crimes Minorities are being sentence to jail for harsher punishment more than whites in the United States. You do all the work, make all the good grades and someone else gets all the credit. In my high school days, we called these people teachers pets . These people made it seem like everything was about them. They wanted to control everything and most of the students wanted to tell this student off but couldn t because the teacher would always take their side. Now, in this play we have a mother named Amanda and like the teacher s pet, Amanda wants to control every aspect of her children s life. May I add, that the children that she tried to control are well above the legal adult age. The children, like the other students in the classroom, wanted to tell her off but it wouldn t be of any value because they had no backing. Amanda is truly the glue that makes this play what it is today. Amanda is the most important character in this play because she wants to live her life through her kids, everything that went wrong was because of her, and because of her nagging ways. Amanda truly wants to live her life though her children life at any cost. Just like any parent Amanda wants to have her children succeed in life. Based on what they have the human population plans out parties. They have a lack of space and resources. Anyone who would plan these parties would have to take in account for the amount of people that would have to scrunch in with each other, and how many people would not have enough food to last the party. Which basically makes it so the guests are down to a certain number. Our planet is a close similarity to the already mentioned party. The very first idea is the fatalistic belief program that block the actual risk perception. Humans can not harm the Resource Base (p.449). He also has a disability under the ADA, known as the Klippel Trenaunay Weber Syndrome, affecting the flow of blood from this right leg back to his heart. He made a request to use a golf cart during the professional tours, supporting his reasoning with medical records; PGA Tour, Inc. refused because the competitive nature of the game would be fundamentally altered if Martin were given an unfair advantage. There are two distinct types of cocoa plants: Criollo and Forastero. The Criollo variety is the most sensitive of the cocoa plants, and any shifts in climate can have an adverse affect on its already low yield. In an attempt to blend the hardiness of the Forastero plant with the delicate flavors of the Criollo plant, the two were hybridized into a third plant, Trinitario, which accounted for 20% of all production in 2008, although it s steadily developing a following. Regardless of the cocoa variety, the production cycle is the same. On average, cocoa trees take five years to reach maturity and bear fruit, at which time only a total of about 20 pods might be ready for harvest. As a rule of thumb, 10 pods produce 2.2 pounds of cocoa, so the average tree can produce only a little over four pounds of cocoa. Interestingly, the Ivory Coast, Ghana and Indonesia account for more than 70% of the world s cocoa production, and most of that production comes from small plantations. Once the cocoa beans are dried out, they are shipped to the manufacturer. They are shipped in food safe jut bags that are treated with vegetable oil. They can only be used once because they have to be clean and strong enough. These bags have to be disposed after one use which makes them not environmentally friendly. • 21. Bible Study Of Jeremiah Chapter 1 Essay Bible Study of Jeremiah Chapter 1 In our Bible Study today, we will work through the first chapter of the book of Jeremiah. It introduces the prophet, narrates his calling, presents two oracles and ends with an encouragement for Jeremiah. We will start by reading the whole chapter. Jeremiah Chapter 1 is divided into four parts (Fretheim: 2002:45): Introduction of the author and historical context (v. 1 3) Jeremiah s calling (v. 4 10) Two oracles (v.11 16) Final encouragement (v.17 19) We will now go through the different parts of the book and its meaning. 1. Introduction (v.1 3) The author These verses introduce the author Jeremiah. He belonged to a priestly family, the son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth. Jeremiah was also a prophet. Longman (2009:21) explains that prophets were people who have had an encounter with God and been commissioned by him for their task . It was important for the prophet to describe his identity and calling before presenting his oracles so that people would believe him. This is why Jeremiah starts the book introducing himself, and his calling from God that gave him authority as a prophet. The historical context The verses 2 and 3 give us a short overview of the time in which this book was written. Jeremiah began prophesying in Judah in 626 BC, halfway through the reign of Josiah (640 609 BC). Josiah s father and grandfather did what was evil in the Lords eyes. He was heavily tattooed so they assumed he was a gang member. The Police arrived and were on scene much sooner than the EMTs were. They didn t call it in because they thought he was dead. While they were looking for clues towards the case, they noticed the patient was still alive. The piece of his mind that controlled his breathing remained, amazingly, in place. I will first present a definition of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat classes along with what Marx means by his claim. After discussing Marx s claim and his support I will assert that his claim is false and was based on a false assumption. I will argue that Marx does not allow the possibility of an adaptation on behalf of the bourgeoisie. Furthermore, that Marx contradicts his claim with his own ideologies from his critique of capitalism. Finally, Marx adopts historical determinism to support his view which has proven to be flawed. We see, therefore, how the modern bourgeoisie is itself the product of a long course of development, of a series of revolutions in the modes of production and of exchange. (Marx, 424). In this sense, the bourgeoisie have the ability to change since they themselves are products of revolutions. In other terms, the bourgeoisie are an always changing class that has found ways to stay in power through political hegemony over the proletariat class. Marx conjures the proper preconditions for a successful rebellion but again contradicts himself through his own ideologies. Although Marx believes that capitalism will be responsible for the proletariat rebellion it is the same system that will estrange man from each other and thus prevent a successful revolt. Marx asserts certain preconditions that must exist in order for a rebellion to take place. Marx believes that capitalism provides these preconditions and therefore a revolt by the proletariat class is inevitable. As discussed in Professor Kathryn Walker s lecture, Marx describes four preconditions for a successful social rebellion, A mass of people for rebellion, a problem to rebel against, a common experience and identification of the problem. (Walker, 2005). Marx is correct in identifying the necessary preconditions yet does not take into consideration that just because the conditions are set does not mean a rebellion is inevitable. • 24. Use Of Illusion And Hide Reality Plays A Heavy Role On... The use of illusion to hide reality plays a heavy role in William Shakespeare s Othello . Illusion is used frequently throughout the play in relation to love, friendship and character personalities. Some characters, especially Othello, cannot see through the illusion and assume what they see as reality. Iago, however, uses this to his advantage by creating multiple illusions to manipulate the other characters for power and revenge. Iago is seen by most of the characters as an honest and trustworthy man who is always willing to listen and give advice. Cassio, one of the characters who is fooled by the illusionary personality Iago has created, says I never knew/ a Florentine more kind and honest (III.i.38 39). The audience however knows that this is not the case, since at the beginning he says I am not what I am (I.i.62), meaning that he has created an illusion of himself to fool others into believing he is trustworthy. Iago states I follow him to serve my turn upon him (I.i.39), meaning that he only pretends to be loyal to Othello, acting as a good servant so that when the opportunity arises, Othello will not suspect him of sabotaging his marriage. Throughout the entire play, he pretends to be Othello s friend, feigning reluctance in voicing his suspicions about an affair between Desdemona and Cassio. While this is not a comprehensive review of all the advances made through multiphoton imaging of the skin, these examples serve to demonstrate that this technology has significantly advanced our understanding of the spatio temporal interactions of immune cell subsets in lymphoid organs and peripheral tissues including the skin (Germain et al., 2012). The goal has been to create diverse methods of generating powerful, dependable energy sources that do not have negative repercussions on our environment. According to Mark Sullivan, More fitness minded people are moving to smartwatches, mainly the Apple Watch (Sullivan, 2017). The article talks about how for Fitbit going into the smartwatch area could be dangerous for Fitbit because how is it going to compete with Apple and come out relatively ok. • 40. Jane Smiley s Growing Up At Home I. Thesis Statement: Parents have to become more aware of the affect they are having on their children when they do no implement chores into a child s day to day activities. Chores help establish good work ethics in which children will need as they grow into adult life. Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6 King James Version). Chores should not be looked at as the leftover job a parent does not want to do but more as experiences and learning lessons that carry on with a child throughout life. Gearing up a child to become a hard worker is a tough job, and as a parent you have to be prepared to put in the work. Smiley s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember when I was still in the house with my parents my chore was to wash the dishes on Wednesday evening. No biggie that was a simple task to complete even though I was washing for 9 people; and my mother didn t believe in a dish washer so it was all by hand. I never looked at the situation as if my parents only have me doing this because they didn t want to do it. I was always told that there is a reason why someone wants you to do something and in this case my parents were setting each one of us for success; plain and simple. Millennials (Generation Y, born between 1980 and 2000) are the new generation that is so involved in the world of digital technology. My question to myself is do millennials appreciate the importance of chores? I have to answer that question with a no they do not know the importance of chores. With all the new technology and the lack of guidance; whether it be from a lazy parent or even a lack of a parent in the household chores were a thing of the past. The IRobot Roomba has taken the place of a vacuum cleaner, one less chore for the household. When technology has now been set up to do the chore for you how can any structure or accountability be instilled in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. A Study On The Indus River Valley Starting in the Indus River Valley then eventually spreading all over the world, Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world. Starting with the writing of one of the sacred texts, the Vedas in a time frame of 1500 600 BCE. One of the focal points of the religion is the idea of dharma. In Hinduism, dharma means the truth or a way of life that all followers should adhere to in their best interest. It s an obligation that every Hindu has to follow or he s subject to a reincarnation that is worse than their current life. While the rise of Hinduism took place in the Indus River Valley, Buddhism started in approximately 500 BCE as a reform movement within Indian religions in the Ganges. The Buddha of our age, Siddhartha was born in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start, looking at the aspect of who Dharma applies to in society is vastly different in Buddhism and Hinduism. When looking to Hinduism, their religion is based upon the caste system as to determine what your dharma is. The caste system consists of 4 different classifications such as Brahmins (priests and teachers), Kshatriyas (rulers and warriors), Vaishyas (merchants), and Shudras (servants) (Oxtoby and Segal, 291). In these four castes you are born into, you are given a set obligations that you have to fulfill before you die. Your next life in the reincarnation cycle will be determined by how well you completed your previous tasks. If you did a good job you can move up the caste system, if not you can move down the caste and even to the most insignificant creature in nature. While on the other hand, Buddhism has a much more holistic approach to dharma, that it is a universal force. In all sects of Buddhism there is inclusion that anyone can seek enlightenment. There are not designated moral codes for each individual rather that everyone has a similar dharma to follow. Believing the Buddha s understanding of those realities to be definitive, generations of thinkers studied, and systematized his insights, creating a program of instruction that anyone seeking enlightenment could follow (Oxtoby and Segal, 385). What this tells us about the religions is that Hinduism is much stricter when it comes to who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. In The Bedroom Analysis The short story Killings is written by Andre Dubs which later recreated into a motion picture film called In the Bedroom by director Todd Field in 2001. Both the short story Killings and the film In the Bedroom highlights the themes of love and revenge. It shows how far a person would go for the people they love. The short story was named Killings because it not only focuses on two deaths but the multiple types of death and different aspects of it. Reading the short story Killings and watching the film In the Bedroom I noticed many differences between the two. For example in the short story Killings Matt and Ruth had 3 kids and some grandchildren. In the film In the Bedroom Frank was the only child. I believe the direction Todd Field made this change because he wanted us to focus on the idea of how painful it to lose a child, and how it can affect the relationship between the parents. I honestly thought that was really smart of the director to do since it made us feel how hard it most of been for Matt and Ruth to lose their only child. And how losing Frank made their love for each other kind of disappear. Another differences between the short story and the film was that in Killings the story started off at Frank funeral and later flashback of what had occurred. In the film In the Bedroom the story started from the beginning with Frank and his lover Natalie running in a field, which kind of made the story plot go in chronological order. ... • 43. The American Dream in Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller The struggle for financial security and success has always been prominent in the American culture. The idea of the American dream captures the hearts of so many, yet leaves almost all of them enslaved in the endless economic struggle to achieve high status, wealth, and a house with a white picket fence. In Arthur Miller s, Death of a Salesman, we see how difficult it is for Willy Loman and his sons to achieve this so called American dream. In Lorraine Hansberry s, A Raisin in the Sun, she examines an African American family s struggle to break out of the poverty that is preventing them from achieving some sort of financial stability, or in other words the American dream. Both plays explore the desire for wealth, driving forces that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I drive a man around in his limousine and I say, yes, sir; no, sir; very good, sir; shall I take the Drive, sir? Mama, that ain t no kind of job...that ain t nothing at all (Hansberry pg.73). When considering Willy s circumstance, he insists that he is crucial to the company he works for, if old man Wagner was alive I d a been in charge of New York now (Miller pg. 4) and that he should be a leader by now rather than simply being an employee. These quotes exemplify the idea that believing you deserve better than you currently have is a powerful force that encourages the struggle for the American dream. A final major similarity between the two plays is the fact that both of the men face prejudice for things that they cannot control. For Walter, a prejudice exists because of his skin color. He dreams of having the same opportunities as the white men and in this quote he expresses that to his mother Mama sometimes when I m downtown, I pass them cool quiet looking restaurants where them white boys are sitting back and talking bout things...sitting there turning deals worth millions of dollars (Hansberry pg. 74). Death of a Salesman only features white characters, however, a different type of prejudice is shown in the play. Because Willy is much older now, he doesn t feel like he possess the energy or the capacity to continue making long trips. When this conclusion leads Willy to be fired, he pleads with Howard saying, You can t eat the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
