My Manfathers
People have different beliefs about who our ancestors are. In other words, how humans came into
existence on the mother Earth, and who they were. There are many different types of origin stories,
ranging from tribal specific Native American stories to the story of Adam and Eve and beyond (Perea
18, 2014). As a Muslim, I believe all humans are the sons and daughters of Adam and Eves. However,
it is not clear if heaven that mentioned in the story is that magical place we all think of, or was it just
the mother Earth, but in much better form. I am from the Middle East, where most of the oldest
civilizations are located, and the origin of Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Since it is the oldest known
origin of humanity, the answer to where my ancestors came from is nearly impossible to answer,
because in order to find the answer you have to look back at maybe not only 10,000 years back, but
maybe millions, who knows? However, if you are asking me about my ancestors that I have heard of, I
still can not give you a clear answer due to the fact that I come from a dry land, and as we all know
water is an essential element of life, so the way ancestors had been living in the desert is by following
water, they were always moving.
Geologists now say that the desert was full of life, because there was a plenty of water, and that led to
the existence of many old civilizations. However, when the land starts drying out, people start
immigrating to other places, like Europe, Africa, the rest of Asia and the Americas.
In pow wow space, it is amazing to see the way that Native Americans are organizing themselves
around the drum and why. Dr. Hoehner described a pow wow as taking place within four circles
(Perea 25, 2014). Any culture has their own way of organizing themselves in a social gathering such
as singing, but I have always thought that American Indians pow wow space is built differently to
what mentioned in the book. The circle starts with fire, dancers mostly females, drums and both
singers and audience. Of course, that was not true.
The spacing topic made me think of a type of tribal singing that starting to disappear in the Arabian
Peninsula that had been practiced for thousands of years. It happens when two

Social Community Within A Sixth Grade Classroom
Introduction As an educator, I always believe that the classroom is the epitome of a social community
in which culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse students function, learn, and succeed through
collaborations with their classmates and me. In order for my pedagogical efforts to be effective, a
learning community should be established, administered, and maintained because students will not
learn or respond to my motivational attempts if they feel insecure, disconnected, or negative. The
concept I am interested in is the establishment of an interactive and connective learning community
within a sixth grade classroom. Because certain needs must be fulfilled before teaching and
pedagogical strategies become effective, lower level needs should be satisfied before higher level
needs can be functional and operative. Not only can the satisfaction and motivation of students be
affected by the very nature of learning and the outcomes they expect to gain, but also by the learning
environment they situate and their relationships with peers, and most specifically, their feelings and
perceptions about me. Therefore, constructing an optimal social and learning community is absolutely
indispensable to my class and the formation of emotional bonds between my students and me. A
learning community serves as a reminder for educators that students come to class to acquire enriching
and empowering dispositions, knowledge, skills, and values, which go beyond merely performing
tasks and

Review on the Movie Crash
FILM SYNOPSIS:
In Crash, a simple car accident forms an uncompromising foundation for the complex discovery of
race and prejudice. Paul Haggis overwhelming and incredibly thought provoking directorial debut
succeeds in bringing to the forefront the behaviours that many people keep under their skin. And by
thrusting these attitudes toward us with a highly deliberate, reckless abandon, Haggis puts racism on
the highest pedestal for our review. There is no better place for this examination than the culturally
diverse melting pot of modern day Los Angeles. In just over 24 hours, Crash brings together people
from all walks of life. Two philosophizing black men steal the expensive SUV belonging to the white,
L.A. District Attorney, and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crash is a film of collisions: vehicles, personalities, attitudes, stereotypes, conventions, and ultimately
audience expectations. We crash into each other, just so we can feel something, Don Cheadle murmurs
contemplatively in a clunky opening scene thesis statement that nevertheless sums up the film s
approach as well as its premise.
Writer director Paul Haggis definitely wants you to feel something, and spends the rest of the film
doing his best to blindside your expectations, spin your emotions around and overturn your
preconceptions. The content can be incredibly harsh at times, with constant obscenity and a number of
deeply wrenching scenes. Yet Crash looks at our obsession with race and raises some sensitive issues
with startling frankness.
Is a man who risks his life to save another any less a hero if he is also a bigot? How do you weigh one
against the other, or average out the two to define the overall moral worth of the man? Neither detracts
from or cancels out the other; they are both simply sheer facts about a person, with no way to mediate
or relate them to one another, other than the fact that they are convincingly predicated of one and the
same person.
Still, the film finds real moral ambiguity in the struggles of a number of characters, above all Cheadle
s detective, who wrestles with various personal and professional issues and above all wishes to keep
them separate. Crash is a provocation,

Tone Of Richard Cory
The poem Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson is about a rich man named Richard Cory.
Robinson uses Richard Cory and his appearance to show that not everything is as it may seem. He
uses his word choice, tone, and irony throughout the poem to show the theme, a theme that Cory was
not the man that all of the townspeople thought he was. The diction that the author uses in this poem
plays a great part in conveying the theme. This poem describes how all the people see Richard Cory.
He is portrayed as a gentleman from sole to crown (3). The people see him as an ideal man. People
want to be him. He was clean favored and imperially slim (4). The people of the town saw that Cory
was well groomed and even looked like royalty to them. The people could tell by the way he was
dressed that he was well off, that he had plenty of money. Though he wore nice clothing, he did not
flaunt his money; he did not wear flashy clothes. He was always quietly arrayed (5). ... Show more

The poem begins with a tone of admiration. The people admire Richard Cory. They look up to him.
They thought that he was everything (11). They wish that they were in his place (12). As the poem
goes on, the author changes the tone. The tone goes from one of admiration to one of realization and
confusion. The reader is able to realize that things are not as they appear. The reader is able to notice
that the people around Cory are very poor; they went without the meat, and cursed the bread (14). This
shift in tone also leaves the reader confused. The reader does not know the true reason why Richard
Cory killed

Sherman Alexie Indian
There is beauty to trees. There is softness to air, a rumble to thunder. As well as a sort of magic to the
tone of the pages in a book. Sherman Alexie is a Spokane American novelist, short story writer, poet,
and filmmaker. At an early age, Alexie fell in love with the words printed on the thin pages of books.
His writings formulate his experiences as an Indigenous American with ancestry from various tribes.
In the article Indian Education and the novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by

the differing purposes of capturing the commotion of change and addressing the power of self

The second example of similar ideas with different purposes occur when Junior has a realization of
hope. You ve been fighting since you were born, he said. You fought off that brain surgery. You fought
off those seizures. You fought off all the drunks and drug addicts. You kept your hope. And now, you
have to take your hope and go somewhere where other people have hope. (43, The Absolutely True
Diary of a Part Time Indian). And a concluding citation from the non fiction text, I ran home after
school, heard their Indian tears, and looked in the mirror. Doctor Victor, I called myself, invented an
education, talked to my reflection. Doctor Victor to the emergency room. (107, Indian Education).
From the passage above, one could analyze that in both situations there is a different perspective given
to each message. In the act of one describing the leap of hope given by others, and the second
understood by oneself. The quotes show a beginning to a set of phases in which the character show a
sign of commitment to his passion of success. Junior has hope, and he hasn t given up, even against

Tex Mex Food Research Paper
Imagine a world without Tex Mex foods. People would not be able to go to Taco Bell anytime of the
day, learn about the mexican culture, and america would not have its prideful cuisine. Tex mex is not
considered mexican food but it is known as America s first original regional cuisine (Alarcon). Many
people believe that tex Mex is just food that mexicans of Texas eat, but that is untrue. People of all
cultural backgrounds eat the original and delicious Tex mex cuisine. To experience true Tex Mex
cuisine one must visit either a restaurant run by someone of that nationality or a home of someone of
those nationalities. Many places try to copy the ways of the cuisine but it is not as authentic as it could
be.
According to Food Timeline, The gourmet Tex Mex fad began in the 1970s ( Mexican ).Tex Mex

of Indian and Spanish cuisines (Graham). This combination caused the U.S. to produce a new cuisine.

Five Star Hotels: Five star hotels are often in need of strong consultants who require who guide the
hotel in the right direction. This would be necessary in the case of expansion, human resources and
even sustainability even though they typically have secure structure and financing. Five star hotels
make up a significant portion of our target market.
Five Star Resorts: Typically seasonal in nature, Resorts tend to go into a lull towards the end of a
season. These resorts approach consultants during these times so as to make the most of a slack season
where profits and occupancy decline. Although a smaller market segment compared to five star hotels,
five star resorts still require the services of a consultant even if they are experienced companies.
Michelin Star Restaurants: Michelin Star restaurants are some of the highest rated and most expensive
restaurants in the world. Needless to say, that even some of the best restaurants need consulting. The
challenge of whetting the appetite of a gourmand would mean adapting to the ever changing trends in
food and service preferences. These restaurants occupy a niche portion of our target market, as they
are few in number.
Elite Nightclubs: It is common knowledge that nightclubs have a rather short life span. The same goes
for the elite nightclubs. This is due to the constantly changing trends in nightlife. Every year there is a

Andrew Johnson And Radical Reconstruction
Radical Reconstruction, also known as Congressional Reconstruction, sought to legislatively
reconstruct the South so black men were ensured the same rights as white men. Radical Republicans
demand for societal and political change was a concept many white Southerners struggled with,
considering that they lived in a system that greatly benefitted them while ostracizing and oppressing
black people to maintain that system. Southern Democrats and anti black racists provided a fair
amount obstacles for the rise of Radical Republicanism, including Andrew Johnson s lack of
compromise and belief that black people had no role in Reconstruction , and the regular violence
against and soon, lynching of black people in the South . Eventually, mutual repulsion of Andrew
Johnson is what drove the moderate Republicans to side more with the Radical Republicans so they
can sweep the Congressional elections to gain control of the House of Representatives and the Senate,
which marks the beginning of Radical Reconstruction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Black men were regularly terrorized, assaulted, and murdered for simply living as an equal to white
men in the South. It didn t take long for white supremacist terrorist hate groups to form in opposition
to rights of black people, such as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), the Knights of the White Camellia, and
Red Shirts. These groups went about terror in different ways; they targeted individuals and groups,
murdering them in cold blood by the dozens (such as the Colfax Massacre), lynching them, and
beating them half to death . Many former Confederates, such as the Gooding family, thought that the
Ku Klux Klan was a necessary organization, which speaks volumes on how white people viewed

Catalase Experiment
Discussion: According to the experiment, the highest reaction rate occurred when the enzyme,
Catalase, was 50% concentrated (see Fig.3). However, all of the rates were fairly similar no matter the
concentration, except for the test with 0% concentration. That test resulted in no production of Oxygen
because there was no enzyme for the Hydrogen peroxide to react to so nothing occurred in the testing
container (see Fig. 1). In Fig. 2, you can see that all of the concentrations, aside from 0%
concentration all produced very similar amounts of Oxygen even though there was not as much of the
enzyme in the tests that we added water to in order to change the concentration. The water took the
place of a portion of the enzyme, or all of it, to keep a constant volume of enzyme mixture and to see
how changing the amount enzymes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We used this information to form our hypothesis, which was that the 100% concentration test would
have the highest reaction rate because the more enzyme is the more active sites there are, so more
reactions can occur, and the the Hydrogen peroxide will be decomposed faster, giving it a higher rate.
However, the results of our experiment did not support this. Like explained before, the test that
resulted in the highest rate was the one with 50% concentration. It is unknown why this occurred. The
sources provided in class, a graph, showed that there should be linear growth between concentration
and rate, which supports our hypothesis. Fig. 2 shows that the reaction rate plateaus towards the end of
the 50 seconds, but this is because of the limited and constant amount of substrate, so it slowed down
when the Hydrogen peroxide ran out. Our data did not support our hypothesis, but the class source

Sulfolobus Acidocaldarius Report
Thomas D. Brock and coworkers first isolated Sulfolobus acidocaldarius in 1972. Sulfolobus
acidocaldarius (S. acidocaldarius) was isolated from very hot environments, such as hot springs and
thermal soils. S. acidocaldarius bacteria have ideal environmental conditions, which are an acidic pH,
typically less than 3, and a temperature between 65 to 90 degrees Celsius (Wessner et al., 2013).
Ideal culture conditions are acidic pH and high temperatures because S. acidocaldarius is an aerobic
thermophile found in hot springs, such as Yellowstone National Park (Rice et al., 2001). This
bacterium grows on complex organic substrates, such as yeast and some amino acids. The primary

Physical Restraint And Nursing Home Facilities
This is a review of literature related to physical restraint use in nursing home care facilities. The
number of studies related to this topic is extremely limited and significantly outdated. More research
is needed to understand the effects and experience of physical restraint use in nursing home facilities.
Through conducting research on this topic, it is apparent that more research is needed to fully
understand physical restraint use. This literature review include: nursing and psychiatric hospitals,
underreporting use of restraints, nursing interventions, effective management of residents, informed
consent and federal regulations. Minnesota passed a law in 1999 (Minnesota Statute 144.651,
subdivision 33) which established explicitly the right of residents or residents decision makers to
request physical restraints. It also specified that legitimate medical reasons for using a physical
restraint include: 1) a concern for the physical safety of the resident; and 2) physical or psychological
needs expressed by a resident. A resident s fear of falling may be the basis of a medical symptom.
Studies in the 1980 s indicated that restraints were more likely to cause harm rather than prevent it.
Restraints caused many detrimental effects that included strangulation, bone loss or the patient
becoming weak. Ultimately being restrained oftentimes caused an individual to be embarrassed, angry
or even humiliated. Many of the residents became depressed, agitated or withdrawn;

Fast Food Franchising Company And Corporation
McDonald s is a very well known fast food franchising company and corporation. The company was
first established in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. Surprisingly the restaurant was
not named McDonalds from the beginning, it was actually named McDonald s Bar B Q and it held
many menu items, but mostly barbecue. After eight years of selling their menu, the brothers noticed
hamburgers were their bestselling item. It was at that time, in 1948, that the McDonald brothers closed

Charles Dickens Great Expectations Essay
Part of Myself : The Inability to Change in Dickens s Great Expectations In Great Expectations
Dickens demonstrates that no matter what you go through, you are who you are. Dickens represents
this with Pip, for he is the character who has undergo so many different personalities, yet found
himself to be the same in the end. Pip attempted to change his life, despite social standing, and
become a suitable gentleman for Estella. Sadly, he didn t get the social title nor did he get the girl. Pip
never actually had a title for himself in the beginning, and throughout the novel, never discovered his
self worth. This resulted in Pip essentially being a low class, mentally and physically abused nobody,
who had dreamed of a beautiful life. The first, and most obvious side of Pip, is when he was a little
boy. This is the most important part of Pip, this is who he starts as, and this is who Dickens ends the
novel with. Pip grew up in a place that was unlike the normal Victorian household. His sister was no
angel, she was mentally and physically abusive to Pip and her husband Joe. My sister s bringing up
has made me sensitive. In the little world in which children have their existence whosoever brings
them up, there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt, as injustice. (63) His adult narrator
perspective shows that he knows his upbringing was bad, and gives us an insight into how he felt. Pip

Fashion Trends And The Fashion Industry
According to Scratchhard.com, the fashion industry generates an average of $20 billion each year.
Fashion designers are the heart of the fashion world. The fashion industry has grown to popularity by
dominating the worldwide economy, media, workplace, and everyday life. Clothing trends have
changed over the last century due to historical events and the evolution of technology. With the gift of
creativity and skill of constructing clothing, fashion designers complete a degree in designing,
research past trends, predict future trends, sketch ideas, and oversee production of their designs.
Fashion designers translate their ideas into clothing to sell. The first step of designing is researching
current fashion trends and predicting future trends. Trends determine the success of the fashion
industry. Designers normally choose a speciality to design, such as swimwear, bridal wear, children s
clothing, footwear, and men s wear. Sketching the original design is the next important step of the
design process. Computer Aided Designs are the modern method of sketching. Next, fabric and
embellishments are chosen to correspond with the designer s vision. Creating custom printed fabric
and custom dyeing fabric is common for designers. Most designers work for large companies which
provide the designer with a sewing team. Large apparel companies usually consist of a team of
designers headed by a creative manager. Communicating ideas to the sewing team and giving them

How The Current Copyright Laws Are Not Be Reformed For...
Due to how abusable current copyright laws are, they must be reformed to prevent copyright trolling.
According to Matthew Sag, The essence of trolling is that the plaintiff is more focused on the business
of litigation than on selling a product or service or licensing their IP to third parties to sell a product or
a service ( Copyright Trolling, An Empirical Study page 4). Copyright trolls seek to acquire their
income from suing others on copyright violations, rather than continually creating new works and
using copyright to protect them. Copyright, whether one agrees with the concept or not, was not
designed for this purpose. People should not be allowed to make a business off of suing others. This is
not only unjust, but wastes the court s time with actual crimes. The United States must reform its
current laws to prevent this type of behavior from happening. According to Parker Higgins, Like email
spammers, copyright trolls depend on the ability to cheaply cast a very wide net, sending out hundreds
or thousands of accusations at once and getting settlement payments back from some percentage (
Copyright trolls suffer big loss par. 3). Many trolls do not target specific groups or people; rather, they

Essay About Tulane University
The essential question is Why are you interested in attending Tulane University? , but in all honesty it
should be Why not Tulane? . No I have never had the chance to visit Louisiana, none the less Tulane,
but I have always yearned to visit the unique state. What better way to explore the state than by
attending a college located there? Like the state where Tulane University is located, it seems to be a
very diverse yet fun place to live out my college life. My interest in the college range from the
academic reputation of the school, the location and social environment, and the overall attractiveness
of the college. A couple months back I met with a Tulane Admissions representative who first sparked
my interest in the college. She opened my eyes, and made me ponder the reality that I could actually
see myself as part of the school. Compared to the other schools that were also being represented
(NYU, University of Miami, Georgia Tech, and the George Washington University), Tulane grab my
interests the most. Before attending the information session about the colleges, I can honestly say I
had never heard of Tulane. However, the representative did such an amazing job informing us about

The Corrupt In Pinochet Coup
With the decision made by Washington that Pinochet would led the coup, while in Panama to
negotiate the transfer of U.S. tanks to the Chilean army, Pinochet was given the message that the U.S.
would support a coup against Allende, with whatever means necessary (Kornbluh 94). The military,
with the support of the CIA, coordinated its takeover with the Truckers Owners Federation. The strike
froze the economy during August creating the climate for the coup (Kornbluh 111). On September
11th 1973, the CIA completed its mission to overthrow the Allende government, ending a long
democratic history in Chile and installing a military dictatorship in Pinochet. While the U.S. had been
extremely hostile towards the democratic regime of Allende, it fully

Dress Code Analysis
According to Niche (2014), A recent survey from Lands End found that the number of public schools
with a dress code increased by 21 percent from 2000 to 2013. Most schools are getting more and more
strict with their dress code. Niche s (2014) website article states, On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and
Dylan Klebold opened fire on their school in Littleton, Colo., killing 12 students and one teacher
before turning their guns on themselves. After this tragedy, people looked for answers and soon were
drawn to the behaviors of Harris and Klebold, including their clothing, which consisted of trench coats
with pockets deep enough for weaponry. After this horrific attack, many schools started to adjust their

The Need for Policy Makers to Regulate Human Genetic...
Human genetic engineering (HGE), a prevalent topic for scientists in research, is the process of
manipulating genes in the human genome. Potentially, scientists can use the process of HGE to alter
many biological and psychological human traits by gene modification. Currently, however, there is a
large deficiency in information regarding HGE and its effects to the human body; creating a need for
scientists to conduct more research and tests. Because of the many unknowns involving HGE it is
necessary for policy makers to regulate HGE for the use by scientists. The first part of this paper will
provide an overview of what HGE is and the processes involved with the technology of HGE. This
paper will then analyze the potential risks associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gyngell s article analyzes the potential for HGE to increase the human life span, while providing a
description of the process of HGE and predicting that HGE may eliminate disease via gene selection.
Both of these articles provide credible and informative arguments that illustrate many different aspects
of the potential impacts of HGE. HGE modifies the genomes of humans to produce a specific
phenotype (a set of observable characteristics of an organism) or genotype (genetic constitution of an
organism) that embodies desirable characteristics [1]. Therefore, HGE differs from archaic processes
of selective breeding and artificial selection because it directly alters genes. The main focuses of HGE
research are genes that code for immunity, cognitive abilities, and psychological mentality. The use of
HGE in gametes and early development embryos is of particular interest to scientists because of its
potential to grant them control over heritable traits. This ability can have great impact on the future of
evolution because it provides humans with the control of the production of combinations of genes that
would otherwise be unachievable. The potential for this level of control creates a need for regulation
by policy makers, who have an obligation to consider the risks, and the benefits that coincide with the
future of HGE. The development of more information and technology continues to increase the
potential for scientists to manipulate complex

Election Of 1824
The U.S. Presidential Election of 1824 was anything but an ordinary election. Several interesting
events occurred during this election. Firstly, there was only one party going for the presidency and,
due to criticism of the Congressional caucus that took place to choose the party s nominee, there were
six candidates for president. Then, when the election took place, no candidate got the majority of the
electoral votes so, the House of Representatives decided on the President. The drama did not end with
the House vote, as there were doubts that it was a fair vote. The election of the Sixth President of the

Some scientists are now researching all the possible solutions and steps to be taken in order to stop it.
We can not prevent it anymore because it is already happening. All we can do is to find a way to

Summary Of Alumnus Welcome By Shounak Bagchi
In Alumnus Welcomes... Shounak Bagchi, a UC Berkeley alumni addresses the UC Berkeley
freshman Class of 2017 and gives them advice on how to succeed throughout their college years. He
makes them appreciate the handwork they completed to get accepted into the school, but also how to
make the best out of their time while attending UC Berkeley. Alumnus Welcomes... is rhetorically
persuasive because Bagchi was an alumni of the school that he wrote to which gives him credibility,
he used humor to grab the reader s attention and he stated facts about the school, which attracts the
audience s sense of logic. The author was inspired to write this essay because he experienced college
the same way all freshmen will experience college. He went through the same exact struggles that they
are bound to go through at some point in it, so he was motivated to help them survive school and stick
with it no matter how tough it gets. He consistently emphasizes how magnificent the rewards are if
one finishes all of college. One of the reasons this essay is rhetorically persuasive is because of his use
of ethos. Bagchi attended UC Berkeley to study Finance and Public Policy which increases his
credibility because he knows exactly how the freshman class feels and what they are going through.
Consequently, advice from someone who has gone through the exact same thing is a lot easier to take
in. It is hard to tell students how to succeed in school if the adviser did not go through the exact same
thing. For example, if someone tries to give a friend advice on how to deal with a breakup and that
person has never been through one, chances are that it would not be that profitable advice because
they do not know how it feels to go through a heartbreak therefore they cannot relate to them.
Credibility is important when writing an essay, but so is grabbing the readers attention. Bagchi uses
many examples of pathos throughout the essay to appeal to the reader s emotions. For instance, he
incorporates humor by advising the students to ignore the Instagram alerts of kids postponing higher
education to travel (Bagchi, 2017, p. 1). This can bring a smile to the readers face because they
understand exactly how it feels to

How does the author use simple language to display a deeper meaning? The diction used by Sharon
Olds and Sara Teasdale illustrates a mood of judgment. They do this by using simple sentences about
how appearances could be deceiving. Olds using the skin color as a way to convey a mood of
judgment. Teasdale uses the concept of having a mask or second personality as judgment. Sharon Olds
describes a mood of judgment through a scene on a subway car between a white women and a black

Patrick Henry Persuasive Speech
Throughout history, rhetoric has been used by great orators to persuade a people to believe one thing
or take action on another. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, proved that a respectable argument must use
ethos, pathos, and logos. Patrick Henry s give me liberty speech is well known to have inspired many
people to take up arms against the British and start the American Revolution. He used ethos by
proving he would die for his country, saying give me liberty or give me death, pathos by explaining
how poorly America is treated and how they are seen as inferiors, and also logos by stating all the
atrocities Britain had done to America ( Patrick ). These same values must be applied in modern
debate to vanquish the other side, and it is in these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos, or asserting credibility of the speaker, is an important tool in order to gain the judges trust and
respect of the words spoken. Hillary Clinton currently has a poor credible record because of the email
scandal, and as a result many voters feel less inclined to vote for her (O Harrow). In a casual high
school debate, ethos may be obtained by receiving good grades or having several reputable sources.
Pathos is procured using less evidence, but still reaching out to the heart of the judge. Martin Luther
King Jr s famous I Have a Dream speech became a turning point in equality for American people. His
use of pathos, such as saying the millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of
withering injustice, made people realize how unjust their treatment was of the African American
population (Eidenmuller). As for logos, logos uses logic in order to persuade the judge to believe a
certain statement is true. For instance, many of the presidential debates in 2016 use logos in order to
persuade the audience (Lee). The candidates often speak of the economic and societal consequences of
a certain proposed tax or bill. Although ethos, pathos, and logos have historically been used in the
greatest of speeches, it is these same principles which also lead to a triumphant

Pittsburgh, in recent years, has been trying to reinvent itself as a sort of east coast Hollywood and
raise a more prominent film industry here in the city. This has mainly been done through high tax
credits to filmmakers and film productions, however, some worry these tax credits are more harmful
than beneficial and are wasting tax payer s money. Those who oppose the tax credits fear that the
beneficial attributes to these tax credits are being exaggerated and that there hasn t been a consistent

An Analysis Of Ros Suskind s A Hope
Ros Suskind: A hope in the Unseen
A typical high school student like Cedric Jennings in the novel A hope in the Unseen would never
prefer to write on the style and voice of a novel over a mathematical derivation of two pages. Style is
very difficult to determine in a novel, but what is more difficult is to find the thin and blurred line
between style and voice. Theoretically, while style is the way by which an author chooses words,
makes decisions on sentence structures; whether long or short, and also paragraph structure, voice is
the external tincture of attitude and demeanour every reader would be able to link to a particular
author while reading any of the author s works.
Authors have over the ages, managed to infuse their external life into their works, not through the
contents, but through the style they choose to bring into bare in the writing. Ros Suskind is one of the
many authors who have gone this way in trying to pass on a message of resilience, hope and
doggedness in the novel A hope in the Unseen .
In the course of this study, an analysis of the development and enhancement of the characterization of
Cedric Jennings will be carried out. This analysis will be carried out under the specific targets of
syntax, use of figurative, selection of details and diction.
The style of writing inherent in this work was made prominent by the author s point of view. He used
the omniscient point of view, which added his ability to honestly but literarily delve into the

An Essay About My Birthday
I was born on the thirteenth of May, 2000 at 3:33 a.m. The same day, people were celebrating their
own birthdays. On May 13, 2000, many people had to mourn over the deaths of their loved ones.
When people are children, they never quite realize that anything other than their birth happened on
their birthday. Now that I am becoming a young woman, it is past time to find out what else happened
that day through my own research. I had to ask my parents what they remembered about my birthday
first. They are, of course, a reliable source of information as to what happened within my own family
during the week of my birth. They did forget a lot of details other than my birth, so what they
recounted was essentially that my mother just had to stay in the hospital a while longer, since it was
her first birth. I also decided that knowing the origins of my name was important too. My first name is
Carrie, after my great great grandmother. It is American in origin, coming from Caroline, for which
Carrie became a shorter version or a pet name (Carrie). My last name is Brake, originating from
Germany. Through research on ancestry.com, I found that my ancestors likely lived near a clearing
and were called Brak, which (in Middle Low German) means clearing or coppice. (Brake)
Historically, my birthday is also significant. In 1939, Mussolini and Hitler were touring the border of

Vargas is content to cut down only two of the Treanor s eight redwoods. That does not seem overly

his wishes to chop down these trees, and brings light to an outdated law that others might consider
using. With that being said, this will spark a movement of people attempting to use the Solar Shade
Control Act. First, it may be only one or two said trees. However, this disagreement exposes an act
that can easily be taken advantage of. Others can take on this idea and get their neighbor to cut down
even more trees, and by this time, an abundance of trees are cut down and neighbors across the nation
will become the leading cause of tree death. Mr. Vargas should have seen the risks in the investment

Summary Of The Limits Of Friendship By Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova s essay The Limits of Friendship, analyzes the impact of social media on close
relationships, addressing the people impacted by social media use. This essay published in The New
Yorker, a weekly magazine with scholarly authors, to inform the public on social media s impact on
our lives. She finds that social media has created a dependency on technology and online interactions.
Konnikova strives to inform that social media is decreasing close relationships, and persuades that it
will impact our future. She argues on the impact of increased dependency on social media on the
Dunbar number, hindering the development of future generations. Konnikova succeeds using strong
logic and scientific reason as well as appealing to emotions; however, she fails to prove her credibility
over the topic and instead relies on the credibility of Robin Dunbar.
To develop her argument, Konnikova supplies the reader with logic by using real life examples. One
example being notifying the audience of the research that the Dunbar number correlates with brain
size because it is simple to understand that group size and brain size flow together (par 1). Konnikova
applies Dunbar s historical findings to validate the size of a standard group (par 4). Showing the
reader that the Dunbar number accurately functions in society. Another example is her use of
clarifying the Dunbar number by examining Christmas cards in relation to social networks (par 5).

Summary Of Mira Nair And Mississippi Masala
Mira Nair and Mississippi Masala (1991) Introduction Mira Nair is an independent filmmaker who
splits her time between New York City, Kampala, and wherever her next project takes her. As
appraised by the writers at RogerEbert.com, Nair has made a career of presenting audiences with
characters they may not know first hand, but connect with personally (2016). Her work is a delicate
balance between the exploration of complex issues of identity and displacement and the humor and
vibrancy of everyday life. Background Born on October 15, 1957 in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, India,
young Nair watched as her father, a civil servant, helped mold India s new identity (IMDb, 2017). At
the age of sixteen, Nair pursued protest theater in Kolkata (kael kun taa), capital of West Bengal state
(Badt, 2004, pg. 10). Her college career began at Delhi University, with a focus on theater, and
continued at Harvard University, where Nair became enamored with cinéma vérité and sociology
(Badt, 2004, pg. 10). She directed her first work, Jama Masjid Street Journal (1979), at the age of 22
(Nair Meer, 1991, pg. 47). The thematic aspect of Nair s films remains consistent. Her work explores

The Nature Of The Prince In Machiavelli s The Prince
A Lion is a King and a Fox is the Thief
Since, then, a prince must know how to use well the nature of the beast, he should choose from among
the beasts the fox and the lion; for the lion cannot defend itself from traps, while the fox cannot
protect itself from the wolves. It is therefore necessary to be a fox, in order to recognize the traps, and
a lion, in order to frighten the wolves (Machiavelli 60). When must the Prince be the lion and when
must he be the fox? In The Prince written by Machiavelli, Machiavelli writes to the Prince to tell him
the best way to rule over a principality, and the consequences of the decisions he makes in his ruling.
Machiavelli applies figurative language, such as metaphors to explain the way a situation will often
play out. He represents different roles of leadership as animals. The different animals, lion, wolf, fox,
have varying characteristics. Machiavelli uses the metaphors of a lion and a fox in order to illustrate
the need for a prince to be both strong and brave and sly and cunning. The effect of these metaphors is
to demonstrate that a prince must demonstrate more than just one characteristic in order to lead with
power and authority.
The Prince needs to know how to use well the nature of the beast (60). He must think like an animal in
matters that concern his ruling. If the Prince thinks as an animal his priorities would then be to ensure
the security of the kingdom and his throne. His military strength will prevent

  • 2. My Manfathers People have different beliefs about who our ancestors are. In other words, how humans came into existence on the mother Earth, and who they were. There are many different types of origin stories, ranging from tribal specific Native American stories to the story of Adam and Eve and beyond (Perea 18, 2014). As a Muslim, I believe all humans are the sons and daughters of Adam and Eves. However, it is not clear if heaven that mentioned in the story is that magical place we all think of, or was it just the mother Earth, but in much better form. I am from the Middle East, where most of the oldest civilizations are located, and the origin of Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Since it is the oldest known origin of humanity, the answer to where my ancestors came from is nearly impossible to answer, because in order to find the answer you have to look back at maybe not only 10,000 years back, but maybe millions, who knows? However, if you are asking me about my ancestors that I have heard of, I still can not give you a clear answer due to the fact that I come from a dry land, and as we all know water is an essential element of life, so the way ancestors had been living in the desert is by following water, they were always moving. Geologists now say that the desert was full of life, because there was a plenty of water, and that led to the existence of many old civilizations. However, when the land starts drying out, people start immigrating to other places, like Europe, Africa, the rest of Asia and the Americas. In pow wow space, it is amazing to see the way that Native Americans are organizing themselves around the drum and why. Dr. Hoehner described a pow wow as taking place within four circles (Perea 25, 2014). Any culture has their own way of organizing themselves in a social gathering such as singing, but I have always thought that American Indians pow wow space is built differently to what mentioned in the book. The circle starts with fire, dancers mostly females, drums and both singers and audience. Of course, that was not true. The spacing topic made me think of a type of tribal singing that starting to disappear in the Arabian Peninsula that had been practiced for thousands of years. It happens when two ... • 3. Social Community Within A Sixth Grade Classroom Introduction As an educator, I always believe that the classroom is the epitome of a social community in which culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse students function, learn, and succeed through collaborations with their classmates and me. In order for my pedagogical efforts to be effective, a learning community should be established, administered, and maintained because students will not learn or respond to my motivational attempts if they feel insecure, disconnected, or negative. The concept I am interested in is the establishment of an interactive and connective learning community within a sixth grade classroom. Because certain needs must be fulfilled before teaching and pedagogical strategies become effective, lower level needs should be satisfied before higher level needs can be functional and operative. Not only can the satisfaction and motivation of students be affected by the very nature of learning and the outcomes they expect to gain, but also by the learning environment they situate and their relationships with peers, and most specifically, their feelings and perceptions about me. Therefore, constructing an optimal social and learning community is absolutely indispensable to my class and the formation of emotional bonds between my students and me. A learning community serves as a reminder for educators that students come to class to acquire enriching and empowering dispositions, knowledge, skills, and values, which go beyond merely performing tasks and ... • 4. Review on the Movie Crash FILM SYNOPSIS: In Crash, a simple car accident forms an uncompromising foundation for the complex discovery of race and prejudice. Paul Haggis overwhelming and incredibly thought provoking directorial debut succeeds in bringing to the forefront the behaviours that many people keep under their skin. And by thrusting these attitudes toward us with a highly deliberate, reckless abandon, Haggis puts racism on the highest pedestal for our review. There is no better place for this examination than the culturally diverse melting pot of modern day Los Angeles. In just over 24 hours, Crash brings together people from all walks of life. Two philosophizing black men steal the expensive SUV belonging to the white, L.A. District Attorney, and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Crash is a film of collisions: vehicles, personalities, attitudes, stereotypes, conventions, and ultimately audience expectations. We crash into each other, just so we can feel something, Don Cheadle murmurs contemplatively in a clunky opening scene thesis statement that nevertheless sums up the film s approach as well as its premise. Writer director Paul Haggis definitely wants you to feel something, and spends the rest of the film doing his best to blindside your expectations, spin your emotions around and overturn your preconceptions. The content can be incredibly harsh at times, with constant obscenity and a number of deeply wrenching scenes. Yet Crash looks at our obsession with race and raises some sensitive issues with startling frankness. Is a man who risks his life to save another any less a hero if he is also a bigot? How do you weigh one against the other, or average out the two to define the overall moral worth of the man? Neither detracts from or cancels out the other; they are both simply sheer facts about a person, with no way to mediate or relate them to one another, other than the fact that they are convincingly predicated of one and the same person. Still, the film finds real moral ambiguity in the struggles of a number of characters, above all Cheadle s detective, who wrestles with various personal and professional issues and above all wishes to keep them separate. Crash is a provocation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tone Of Richard Cory The poem Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson is about a rich man named Richard Cory. Robinson uses Richard Cory and his appearance to show that not everything is as it may seem. He uses his word choice, tone, and irony throughout the poem to show the theme, a theme that Cory was not the man that all of the townspeople thought he was. The diction that the author uses in this poem plays a great part in conveying the theme. This poem describes how all the people see Richard Cory. He is portrayed as a gentleman from sole to crown (3). The people see him as an ideal man. People want to be him. He was clean favored and imperially slim (4). The people of the town saw that Cory was well groomed and even looked like royalty to them. The people could tell by the way he was dressed that he was well off, that he had plenty of money. Though he wore nice clothing, he did not flaunt his money; he did not wear flashy clothes. He was always quietly arrayed (5). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reader is able to notice that the people around Cory are very poor; they went without the meat, and cursed the bread (14). This shift in tone also leaves the reader confused. Radical Republicans demand for societal and political change was a concept many white Southerners struggled with, considering that they lived in a system that greatly benefitted them while ostracizing and oppressing black people to maintain that system. Southern Democrats and anti black racists provided a fair amount obstacles for the rise of Radical Republicanism, including Andrew Johnson s lack of compromise and belief that black people had no role in Reconstruction , and the regular violence against and soon, lynching of black people in the South . That test resulted in no production of Oxygen because there was no enzyme for the Hydrogen peroxide to react to so nothing occurred in the testing container (see Fig. 1). In Fig. 2, you can see that all of the concentrations, aside from 0% concentration all produced very similar amounts of Oxygen even though there was not as much of the enzyme in the tests that we added water to in order to change the concentration. The sources provided in class, a graph, showed that there should be linear growth between concentration and rate, which supports our hypothesis. Through conducting research on this topic, it is apparent that more research is needed to fully understand physical restraint use. This literature review include: nursing and psychiatric hospitals, underreporting use of restraints, nursing interventions, effective management of residents, informed consent and federal regulations. Minnesota passed a law in 1999 (Minnesota Statute 144.651, subdivision 33) which established explicitly the right of residents or residents decision makers to request physical restraints. It also specified that legitimate medical reasons for using a physical restraint include: 1) a concern for the physical safety of the resident; and 2) physical or psychological needs expressed by a resident. A resident s fear of falling may be the basis of a medical symptom. Studies in the 1980 s indicated that restraints were more likely to cause harm rather than prevent it. Charles Dickens Great Expectations Essay Part of Myself : The Inability to Change in Dickens s Great Expectations In Great Expectations Dickens demonstrates that no matter what you go through, you are who you are. Dickens represents this with Pip, for he is the character who has undergo so many different personalities, yet found himself to be the same in the end. Pip attempted to change his life, despite social standing, and become a suitable gentleman for Estella. Sadly, he didn t get the social title nor did he get the girl. Pip never actually had a title for himself in the beginning, and throughout the novel, never discovered his self worth. This is the most important part of Pip, this is who he starts as, and this is who Dickens ends the novel with. Pip grew up in a place that was unlike the normal Victorian household. His sister was no angel, she was mentally and physically abusive to Pip and her husband Joe. My sister s bringing up has made me sensitive. In the little world in which children have their existence whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt, as injustice. According to Matthew Sag, The essence of trolling is that the plaintiff is more focused on the business of litigation than on selling a product or service or licensing their IP to third parties to sell a product or a service ( Copyright Trolling, An Empirical Study page 4). Copyright trolls seek to acquire their income from suing others on copyright violations, rather than continually creating new works and using copyright to protect them. Copyright, whether one agrees with the concept or not, was not designed for this purpose. People should not be allowed to make a business off of suing others. This is not only unjust, but wastes the court s time with actual crimes. The United States must reform its current laws to prevent this type of behavior from happening. According to Parker Higgins, Like email spammers, copyright trolls depend on the ability to cheaply cast a very wide net, sending out hundreds or thousands of accusations at once and getting settlement payments back from some percentage ( Copyright trolls suffer big loss par. 3). Many trolls do not target specific groups or people; rather, they spread it in such a way that any company or organization can accidentally misuse it. Gyngell s article analyzes the potential for HGE to increase the human life span, while providing a description of the process of HGE and predicting that HGE may eliminate disease via gene selection. HGE modifies the genomes of humans to produce a specific phenotype (a set of observable characteristics of an organism) or genotype (genetic constitution of an organism) that embodies desirable characteristics [1]. Therefore, HGE differs from archaic processes of selective breeding and artificial selection because it directly alters genes. The main focuses of HGE research are genes that code for immunity, cognitive abilities, and psychological mentality. The use of HGE in gametes and early development embryos is of particular interest to scientists because of its potential to grant them control over heritable traits. This ability can have great impact on the future of evolution because it provides humans with the control of the production of combinations of genes that would otherwise be unachievable. The potential for this level of control creates a need for regulation by policy makers, who have an obligation to consider the risks, and the benefits that coincide with the future of HGE. • 29. Election Of 1824 The U.S. Presidential Election of 1824 was anything but an ordinary election. Several interesting events occurred during this election. Firstly, there was only one party going for the presidency and, due to criticism of the Congressional caucus that took place to choose the party s nominee, there were six candidates for president. Then, when the election took place, no candidate got the majority of the electoral votes so, the House of Representatives decided on the President. The drama did not end with the House vote, as there were doubts that it was a fair vote. • 32. Summary Of Alumnus Welcome By Shounak Bagchi In Alumnus Welcomes... Shounak Bagchi, a UC Berkeley alumni addresses the UC Berkeley freshman Class of 2017 and gives them advice on how to succeed throughout their college years. He makes them appreciate the handwork they completed to get accepted into the school, but also how to make the best out of their time while attending UC Berkeley. Alumnus Welcomes... is rhetorically persuasive because Bagchi was an alumni of the school that he wrote to which gives him credibility, he used humor to grab the reader s attention and he stated facts about the school, which attracts the audience s sense of logic. The author was inspired to write this essay because he experienced college the same way all freshmen will experience college. He went through the same exact struggles that they are bound to go through at some point in it, so he was motivated to help them survive school and stick with it no matter how tough it gets. He consistently emphasizes how magnificent the rewards are if one finishes all of college. One of the reasons this essay is rhetorically persuasive is because of his use of ethos. Bagchi attended UC Berkeley to study Finance and Public Policy which increases his credibility because he knows exactly how the freshman class feels and what they are going through. Consequently, advice from someone who has gone through the exact same thing is a lot easier to take in. It is hard to tell students how to succeed in school if the adviser did not go through the exact same thing. For example, if someone tries to give a friend advice on how to deal with a breakup and that person has never been through one, chances are that it would not be that profitable advice because they do not know how it feels to go through a heartbreak therefore they cannot relate to them. Credibility is important when writing an essay, but so is grabbing the readers attention. Bagchi uses many examples of pathos throughout the essay to appeal to the reader s emotions. For instance, he incorporates humor by advising the students to ignore the Instagram alerts of kids postponing higher education to travel (Bagchi, 2017, p. 1). This can bring a smile to the readers face because they understand exactly how it feels to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Patrick Henry Persuasive Speech Throughout history, rhetoric has been used by great orators to persuade a people to believe one thing or take action on another. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, proved that a respectable argument must use ethos, pathos, and logos. Patrick Henry s give me liberty speech is well known to have inspired many people to take up arms against the British and start the American Revolution. He used ethos by proving he would die for his country, saying give me liberty or give me death, pathos by explaining how poorly America is treated and how they are seen as inferiors, and also logos by stating all the atrocities Britain had done to America ( Patrick ). These same values must be applied in modern debate to vanquish the other side, and it is in these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethos, or asserting credibility of the speaker, is an important tool in order to gain the judges trust and respect of the words spoken. Hillary Clinton currently has a poor credible record because of the email scandal, and as a result many voters feel less inclined to vote for her (O Harrow). In a casual high school debate, ethos may be obtained by receiving good grades or having several reputable sources. Pathos is procured using less evidence, but still reaching out to the heart of the judge. Martin Luther King Jr s famous I Have a Dream speech became a turning point in equality for American people. His use of pathos, such as saying the millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice, made people realize how unjust their treatment was of the African American population (Eidenmuller). As for logos, logos uses logic in order to persuade the judge to believe a certain statement is true. For instance, many of the presidential debates in 2016 use logos in order to persuade the audience (Lee). The candidates often speak of the economic and societal consequences of a certain proposed tax or bill. Although ethos, pathos, and logos have historically been used in the greatest of speeches, it is these same principles which also lead to a triumphant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Analysis Of Ros Suskind s A Hope Ros Suskind: A hope in the Unseen A typical high school student like Cedric Jennings in the novel A hope in the Unseen would never prefer to write on the style and voice of a novel over a mathematical derivation of two pages. Style is very difficult to determine in a novel, but what is more difficult is to find the thin and blurred line between style and voice. Theoretically, while style is the way by which an author chooses words, makes decisions on sentence structures; whether long or short, and also paragraph structure, voice is the external tincture of attitude and demeanour every reader would be able to link to a particular author while reading any of the author s works. Authors have over the ages, managed to infuse their external life into their works, not through the contents, but through the style they choose to bring into bare in the writing. Ros Suskind is one of the many authors who have gone this way in trying to pass on a message of resilience, hope and doggedness in the novel A hope in the Unseen . This analysis will be carried out under the specific targets of syntax, use of figurative, selection of details and diction. • 38. An Essay About My Birthday I was born on the thirteenth of May, 2000 at 3:33 a.m. The same day, people were celebrating their own birthdays. On May 13, 2000, many people had to mourn over the deaths of their loved ones. When people are children, they never quite realize that anything other than their birth happened on their birthday. Now that I am becoming a young woman, it is past time to find out what else happened that day through my own research. I had to ask my parents what they remembered about my birthday first. They are, of course, a reliable source of information as to what happened within my own family during the week of my birth. They did forget a lot of details other than my birth, so what they recounted was essentially that my mother just had to stay in the hospital a while longer, since it was her first birth. I also decided that knowing the origins of my name was important too. My first name is Carrie, after my great great grandmother. It is American in origin, coming from Caroline, for which Carrie became a shorter version or a pet name (Carrie). My last name is Brake, originating from Germany. Through research on ancestry.com, I found that my ancestors likely lived near a clearing and were called Brak, which (in Middle Low German) means clearing or coppice. With that being said, this will spark a movement of people attempting to use the Solar Shade Control Act. First, it may be only one or two said trees. • 40. Summary Of The Limits Of Friendship By Maria Konnikova Maria Konnikova s essay The Limits of Friendship, analyzes the impact of social media on close relationships, addressing the people impacted by social media use. This essay published in The New Yorker, a weekly magazine with scholarly authors, to inform the public on social media s impact on our lives. She finds that social media has created a dependency on technology and online interactions. Konnikova strives to inform that social media is decreasing close relationships, and persuades that it will impact our future. She argues on the impact of increased dependency on social media on the Dunbar number, hindering the development of future generations. Konnikova succeeds using strong logic and scientific reason as well as appealing to emotions; however, she fails to prove her credibility over the topic and instead relies on the credibility of Robin Dunbar. To develop her argument, Konnikova supplies the reader with logic by using real life examples. One example being notifying the audience of the research that the Dunbar number correlates with brain size because it is simple to understand that group size and brain size flow together (par 1). Konnikova applies Dunbar s historical findings to validate the size of a standard group (par 4). Showing the reader that the Dunbar number accurately functions in society. • 44. Summary Of Mira Nair And Mississippi Masala Mira Nair and Mississippi Masala (1991) Introduction Mira Nair is an independent filmmaker who splits her time between New York City, Kampala, and wherever her next project takes her. As appraised by the writers at RogerEbert.com, Nair has made a career of presenting audiences with characters they may not know first hand, but connect with personally (2016). Her work is a delicate balance between the exploration of complex issues of identity and displacement and the humor and vibrancy of everyday life. Background Born on October 15, 1957 in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, India, young Nair watched as her father, a civil servant, helped mold India s new identity (IMDb, 2017). At the age of sixteen, Nair pursued protest theater in Kolkata (kael kun taa), capital of West Bengal state (Badt, 2004, pg. 10). Her college career began at Delhi University, with a focus on theater, and continued at Harvard University, where Nair became enamored with cinéma vérité and sociology (Badt, 2004, pg. 10). She directed her first work, Jama Masjid Street Journal (1979), at the age of 22 (Nair Meer, 1991, pg. 47). The thematic aspect of Nair s films remains consistent. Her work explores the concept of otherness, as seen in the dancers of India Cabaret (documentary, 1985), the homeless children of Salaam Bombay! • 45. The Nature Of The Prince In Machiavelli s The Prince A Lion is a King and a Fox is the Thief Since, then, a prince must know how to use well the nature of the beast, he should choose from among the beasts the fox and the lion; for the lion cannot defend itself from traps, while the fox cannot protect itself from the wolves. It is therefore necessary to be a fox, in order to recognize the traps, and a lion, in order to frighten the wolves (Machiavelli 60). When must the Prince be the lion and when must he be the fox? In The Prince written by Machiavelli, Machiavelli writes to the Prince to tell him the best way to rule over a principality, and the consequences of the decisions he makes in his ruling. Machiavelli applies figurative language, such as metaphors to explain the way a situation will often play out. He represents different roles of leadership as animals. The different animals, lion, wolf, fox, have varying characteristics. Machiavelli uses the metaphors of a lion and a fox in order to illustrate the need for a prince to be both strong and brave and sly and cunning. The effect of these metaphors is to demonstrate that a prince must demonstrate more than just one characteristic in order to lead with power and authority. The Prince needs to know how to use well the nature of the beast (60). He must think like an animal in matters that concern his ruling. If the Prince thinks as an animal his priorities would then be to ensure the security of the kingdom and his throne. His military strength will prevent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
