High Strength Low Alloy Steel
What are HSLA steels
• It is nothing but High Strength Low Alloy
Steels
• Also known as micro alloyed steels
PURPOSE: Weight reduction through increased
strength.
• About 0.20% Cu is added for Improve
Corrosion resistance
• High-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel is a type of
alloy steel that provides better mechanical properties
and greater resistance to corrosion than carbon steel.
• HSLA steels vary from other steels in that they not
meet a specific chemical composition, but rather to
specific mechanical properties.
CHARACTERISTICS OF HSLA STEELS
• High yield strength
• Can be welded without becoming brittle
(Ductile also)
• Light weight
• High corrosion resistance
• They are ductile and machinable.
USES
• They are used in cars, trucks, cranes, bridges,
roller coasters and other structures that are
designed to handle large amounts of stress
areas
• HSLA steels are usually 20 to 30% lighter than
a carbon steel with the same strength.
HSLA STEEL----
- In Long Pipe Lines
ALLOYING ELEMENTS
• They have a carbon content between 0.05–0.25%
to retain formability and weldability.
• Other alloying elements include up to 2.0%
manganese and small quantities of copper, nickel,
niobium, nitrogen, vanadium, chromium, are added
for strengthening purposes.

  • 1. HSLA STEEL High Strength Low Alloy Steel
  • 2. What are HSLA steels • It is nothing but High Strength Low Alloy Steels • Also known as micro alloyed steels PURPOSE: Weight reduction through increased strength. • About 0.20% Cu is added for Improve Corrosion resistance
  • 3. • High-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel is a type of alloy steel that provides better mechanical properties and greater resistance to corrosion than carbon steel. • HSLA steels vary from other steels in that they not meet a specific chemical composition, but rather to specific mechanical properties.
  • 4. CHARACTERISTICS OF HSLA STEELS • High yield strength • Can be welded without becoming brittle (Ductile also) • Light weight • High corrosion resistance • They are ductile and machinable.
  • 5. USES • They are used in cars, trucks, cranes, bridges, roller coasters and other structures that are designed to handle large amounts of stress areas • HSLA steels are usually 20 to 30% lighter than a carbon steel with the same strength.
  • 6. HSLA STEEL---- - In Long Pipe Lines
  • 7. ALLOYING ELEMENTS • They have a carbon content between 0.05–0.25% to retain formability and weldability. • Other alloying elements include up to 2.0% manganese and small quantities of copper, nickel, niobium, nitrogen, vanadium, chromium, are added for strengthening purposes.
