Purpose Of A Lan ( Local Area Network ) Essay
Sunday, 16 November 2014

Purpose of a LAN (hosts, devices (dual functions), examples of LAN use, types of resources shared,
information that can be accessed using a LAN, purpose of LAN components) AND advantages and
disadvantages of cable, fibre, wireless in terms of bandwidth, location, security, reliability, set up,
suitability
Describe what the user will mainly use a specific LAN for When the first computers were made, they
couldn t talk to each other if they weren t the same type. But now with the standardising of
components, it is now easier than ever for different computers to connect to each other in a LAN
(Local Area Network).
A LAN is a network of computers in a specific area interconnect using a variety of network media. For
example, WBHS LAN are all the computers connected to the WBHS network via Ethernet, Wi fi or
other. This is different from a WAN (Wide area network) which extends to a much wider area such as
a town, city and country. LAN are usually more restricted in access and more numerous.
LAN are used at WBHS to connect all the schofols desktops, servers, all in ones, printers, laptops and
many other devices to each other. For students using BYOD, this gives them access to restricted Wi
Fi, but for teachers and users on the schools computers, this allows them to access network drives,
print to any printer, send emails internally just to name a few. Because the Network in local and
internal, WBHS doesn t rely on external severs which

Black Panther Exchanges Gases
The black panther exchanges gases and breathes just like humans using their lungs. Black panthers
lungs are a bit larger considering their size and weight. First, the breathing starts at the panther s nose
and mouth. The panther inhales air into their nose or mouth and into their windpipe, or in other words,
trachea. Trachea then divides into tiny air passages called bronchial tubes. As the bronchial tubes pass
through the lungs, they divide into even smaller air passages called bronchioles. Bronchioles end in
tiny balloon air sacs called alveoli. Next, the alveoli are then surrounded by a mesh on small blood
vessels called capillaries. At this stage, oxygen from the inhaled air of the panther passes through the
alveoli walls and into

The Manhattan Project Lifesaver Or Life Destroyer Essay
The Manhattan Project Lifesaver or Life Destroyer Going throughout history and the mistakes we
have made throughout, you would think back and say if we did the right thing or if we have made a
huge mistake. In this case it is the Manhattan Project. This project was first time the atomic bomb was
introduced. It was led by General Leslie Groves and the research was directed by American scientist J.
Robert Oppenheimer. Most of the people who worked on this project were not told what they were
working on, but only told what to do. In this case, was it right to lie to the people working on this
project, was it necessary not to tell the U.S. community, and was it necessary to bomb Nagasaki and
Hiroshima. The Manhattan Project was necessary for certain things, but not all. As human beings, we
tend to lie to people. Whether it be to your parents, friends, or school teachers. It is just a thing we do
to keep ourselves from getting in trouble. When working on the Manhattan Project, certain people
were not told what the project is. Others were told but were not allowed to tell anyone else. This was
because they did not want the US community to know. They didn t know what type of response they
would get. If you put yourself in one of the workers shoes and then realized what you have been
working on, you would feel so bad because you created a weapon of

destruction. Not only that but you also took part in a project that killed millions. This is how most

Essay On Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer
In 2016, breast cancer was the commonest diagnosed cancer in women with 17 million cases
diagnosed and a resultant 5 million deaths. In the Western world, improved treatments and screening
programmes have resulted in a 5 year survival of 80 90% (WHO, 2016). However, a third of breast
cancer patients are found to have distant metastases at diagnosis, bringing their 5 year survival rate
down by 25% (Siegel et al., 2004). Metastasis occurs when tumour cells travel through the vascular or
lymphatic system and grow in distant organs, commonly bone, lung, liver and brain.
Current treatment involves surgical removal of the visible tumour bulk followed by chemo and radio
therapy targeting distant spread. Breast cancer is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tumour Micro environment
The tumour stroma appears to be a major factor in tumour progression after initial tumour formation
(Conklin and Keely, 2007). It initially protects against tumourigenesis; but neoplastic cells cause
changes and recruit various other cell lines with a multitude of functions, forming a tumour micro
environment (TME). This is defined as a heterogeneous population of cells consisting of the tumor
bulk plus supporting cells (Bussard et al., 2006). The tumour cells recruit the stroma cells and cause a
reactive phenotype, known as tumor associated stromal cells (TASCs).
Mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial cells, pericytes, fibroblasts and various other immune cells are
all components of the TME,each with specific functions. When activated, they take on a similar in
function to those found in inflammation and wound healing and cause fibroblast infiltration,
recruitment of immune cells, remodelling of the extracellular matrix. This is why cancer has been
likened to a wound that never heals, the tumour stroma being chronically activated and promoting
growth and angiogenesis (Dvorak, 1984).
The rapid proliferation of tumour cells soon exhausts the existing vascular supply and brings about a
hypoxic environment in the TME (Coussens and Werb, 2005). Endothelial and stromal cells form a

Ricardo Semler s Leadership Style
1. Describe Ricardo Semler s leadership style. What do you think the advantages and drawbacks of his
style might be?
Ricardo Semler s leadership style can be described as radical. This approach encourages followers to
share their ideas and apply their creativity and ingenuity to reach the company s goals. The employees
have the opportunity to offer suggestions to improve the company. Also, every employee establishes
their norms and their way of completing their job. They are free to choose their schedule, their level of
salary, and who will be their boss. This model gives the employee a positive feedback since they are
recognized for their good work and ideas.
Some of the advantages the radical leadership style has are:
The employees feel that they have greater responsibility and trust put on them, this can generate
greater participation, commitment and a better job performance.
Each employee is responsible for their own performance, creating self commitment.
There are no restrictions on resources or schedules that prevent them to carry out their work properly.
Subordinates are free to choose their schedule and their level of salary.
The employees have to assume the consequences of their actions.
The type of communication is open, there are no defined controls or pressures.
Each employee has the opportunity to vote in the election of the company s leadership and new
initiatives.
The obstacles that can be found can also be some of the advantages

First, the aggressor in this situation is only 15 years old. At 15 years old, the aggressor felt it both
necessary and acceptable to violently attack another player. Moreover, the 15 year old victim
subjected to the attack was incredibly damaged emotionally from the event. Secondly, the verbiage
used is so violent which highlights the significance of racism in minor hockey. The nature of the sport
evokes intense and sporadic emotions which encourages the oppressor to express their truest
emotions. As a result, one can conclude that racism is deeply rooted within that player s beliefs, and
which is not exclusive to this incident.
The next example of racism in minor hockey involves parent s involvement in the problem. Parents
yelled racial slurs and insults, including Go home, Mohammed, at a referee on the ice (CBC, 2015).
This is a particularly disturbing incident which speaks volumes to the root of the problem. It is
explained that parents have a very passionate belief and concern attached to preserving the segregation
of the sport. Even the diversity of referees is a sensitive area to the existing culture. Furthermore, this
incident speaks volumes to the acceptance and magnitude of racist behaviour demonstrated even by
parents. In other words, parents are so outraged by the inclusion of visible minorities in the game that
they cannot contain their racist thoughts to

As you can see Esperanza now does not care what she wears.
Another example of showing how Esperanza changed is that could be described as self absorbed

papa s roses, that Miguel brought with them from Mexico.
Esperanza could also be described as not under standing.
An example of this is when the nuns come with cloths from the poor box.
On page 52 it says Mama at a time like this, must we worry about some poor family who needs
clothes? Esperanza, said Mama, that tunk of cloths is for us.
Esperanza does not understand why the need cloths from the poor box. Esperanza s character changes
later in the book when she could be described as dose not care. An example of this is when Esperanza
is making fun of her own cloth.

Ayn Rand s Arguments Psychological And Ethical Egoism
Psychological and Ethical Egoism
Topic 2:
Humans tend to help others to benefit themselves rather than the person s actual needs. It has been
said that everyone is selfish in everything that they do. Psychological egoism states this very theory. It
says that humans are motivated by self interest to help others, even in cases of altruism. Ethical
egoism however, states that people ought to do what is in their self interest. This differs from
psychological egoism since that is what humans do selfishly to help others. When we help people in
need are we really helping them to better themselves, or rather we are doing so we feel better about
ourselves? There are two arguments in favor of psychological egoism.
The first argument states that we do what we most want to do. This means that people only do what
exactly they want to do. James Rachel s, a famous philosopher believes that this argument is flawed.
James Rachel says that this idea is flawed since people don t always do what the most want. He states
that sometimes what we most want isn t what happens in certain case since we have to ... Show more

Rand s argument has five steps. They are 1. Each individual has intrinsic and supreme worth projects,
plans 2. The ethics of altruism regards the life of an individual as something, which must be readily
sacrificed for others 3. Thus, the ethics of altruism does not take seriously the value of the individual
4. Ethical egoism does take the human being s individuality seriously, and is the only philosophy that
does so. And finally, 5. Thus Ethical Egoism is the philosophy that ought to be accepted. Mr. Rachel s
and I both disagree with Ms. Rand. Rachel s claims that Rand is too extreme with her belief and that it
cannot be classified as Egoism but extreme Egoism. Rachel also claims that if its not Extreme egoism
it can be Extreme Altruism. I believe that Rand s belief is extreme and makes no sense for

Analysis Of The Book Huckleberry Finn
Representation of Jim in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
In the opening of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Jim, an escaped slave previously owned by Miss
Watson, is a simple, kind, and generous man who is also almost superstitious to a fault. However, Jim
develops as a character throughout the novel in a humble passage from slave to free man and Tom
Sawyer s savior. This character transformation manifests itself throughout Jim and Huck s time
together in a search for freedom and a path back to Jim s family that he left behind. While on the
journey, Jim must run at night, hide during the day, and endure the loneliness of his situation
constantly while taking care of Huck; this determination and personal strength despite oppression by
white people make Jim one of the only respectable adults in the novel. Through courageous and
selfless acts, the initially simple Jim demonstrates loyalty, love, strength, and wisdom to establish
himself as a heroic figure in the novel. Jim seems to have a superstition for any occasion one could
think of, but Jim is a product of his time and his beliefs provide answers to phenomenon that people
could not explain. As a first impression at Miss Watson s house, Jim s superstitious ways come across
as idiocy as he thinks that, witches bewitched him and put him in a trance, and rode him all over the
State, and then set him under the trees again ; However, the superstitions ultimately gain depth and

Character Analysis Of Charles DickensGreat Expectations
Take nothing on looks; take everything on evidence. There s no better rule. (339) Do not make
judgements based on appearances, because appearance is not all there is. Here Pip, the main
protagonist of Charles Dickens s Great Expectations, misses the important message that his guardian
is trying to convey to him, and will only come to learn his lesson at the end of the story. Pip is the
recipient of a great fortune from an anonymous benefactor and is left to wonder who this mysterious
person is throughout the novel. He has an idea as to who his benefactor may be, but as he is sworn to
secrecy, he cannot discuss the idea with his fellow acquaintances and is left to his own thoughts and
assumptions. This later on leads him to create many ideas as to what his life will turn out to be, and
only leads him to his own suffering. Pip s suffering throughout the novel is a result of his self
deception and falling victim to his love for a particular, cold hearted lady, but ultimately learns
through his suffering the value of one s actions and character.
Upon meeting Miss Havisham, a well known, wealthy lady who led a life of seclusion, and her
beautiful adopted daughter, Estella, for the first time, Pip s life changes forever. However, falling for
the beautiful, admirable Estella only causes Pip suffering. While Pip and Estella play a game of cards
at Miss Havisham s request, Estella comments on Pip s coarse hands and thick boots with great
disdain. Pip does not reply to Estella s remark, but instead provides an insight into his thoughts at her
words, I had never thought of being ashamed of my hands before; but I began to consider them a very
indifferent pair. Her contempt for me was so strong that it became infectious, and I caught it. (60). In
this passage, Pip mentions that before hearing the words of Estella, he had never been shameful of his
hands before. Although his hands and boots have always been a part of him, the contempt that Estella
has towards these little things gives them a whole new meaning to Pip their appearance has now
become something to be ashamed of, I took the opportunity of being alone in the courtyard to look at
my coarse hands and common boots. My opinion of them was not favourable.

The Killer Angels Quotes
For this summer, I decided to read The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. The book took place during
Civil War times and went into good detail on what happened during the battles at Gettysburg. The first
quote that I found interesting was from the Union Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The fact of
slavery upon this incredibly beautiful new clean earth was appalling, but more even than that was the
horror of old Europe, the curse of nobility, which the South was transplanting to new soil (Shaara 27).
This quote was significant because it described the feelings of the average Union soldier towards
slavery. The Union fought to end slavery because as shown by people like Chamberlain, they believed
that slavery was against a man s good nature and did not want it to effect the new land of the United
States. The second quote that I found significant was another quote from Chamberlain on how he
describes a young black man who was injured from escaping his slave master. The man was really
very black. Chamberlain felt an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pioneer Bluffs Essay
Located in the heart of the Flint Hills, Pioneer Bluffs, a classic farmstead north of Matfield Green with
a natural beauty and repository of Kansas farming and ranching heritage, is now a respected arts and
education center. It is also a National Register Historic District with a classic early 20th century farm
house, barns, and old limestone fence. Visitors can engage nature, art, and history through Prairie Talk

local foods. In addition, the venue hosts the Fall Festival and other community events. In doing so,
Pioneer Bluffs carries on the Rogler legacy of respecting the land, preserving history, and engaging

The story of Pioneer Bluffs began in 1859 when Charles Rogler, a young Austrian immigrant, walked
more than three hundred miles from Iowa to build a new life in Kansas. His plot was at the confluence
of a river and creek with a mix of bottomland prairie for crops, timber for building and fuel, miles of
open prairie for livestock pasturage, and limestone bluff for protection. Charles survived violence,
drought, and disease to expand his 160 acre homestead into a 1,800 acre farm that supplied all of the
family s needs. Charles son, Henry took over the operation c.1898 and named the homestead Pioneer

Analysis of the Film The Rise of the Planet of the Apes Essay
The movie that I choose to watch is The Rise of the Planet of the Apes . In class we learned that
primates have different categories. The categories include; movement, reproduction, intelligence and

examples of these categories. Although, like most modern day movies, some behaviors and
characteristics are not true and do not relate to the material that we studied in class.

Impressed with the results Will was finding from Caesar, Will takes a chance and steals some of the

compulsions and rituals, but it is found that a lot of cases are similar in more ways than they differ.

As for excessive hand washing, they person may be highly afraid of germs. Their mind drives them to
wash and clean their hands over and over again, to the point where it interrupts their daily life. The
reasoning behind these behaviors is to reduce the stress that these fears bring (website 1, page 2).
Finally, an important symptom that comes with this disorder is if at least an hour of each day is spent
doing rituals. Whether it is the act of constant checking on things, such as locking and unlocking
doors, or rearranging things in orders such as by size or height if doing these things is becomes such
an issue that hours are spent, there is more than likely a problem. Almost all people have minor
Obsessive Compulsive tendencies; it is normally not serious enough to be formally diagnosed with the
disorder. An example would be color coding your closet, many people do this simply because it is an
easy way of being organized. But, the difference between two would one, be color coding your closet,
two, not only having the clothes color coded but in order by size, type, texture, etc. One of the biggest
downfalls to this disorder, which may go unnoticed to many people, is how greatly this changes the
lives of not only the ones suffering from it, but their families as well. As previously mentioned, not

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pearl Harbor Speech
Hours after Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan, gaining worldwide headlines, giving millions
unanswered questions, the speech, Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation was given one day after the
event. On December 8th 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave a speech to be remembered
today, by using rhetorical devices and figurative language to strongly picture his message to the
public, making great use of parallel structure, personification, parallelism, and climax ordering to
enforce his key point of wanting Americans to stand up against the Japanese forces for the deliberate
actions done towards there peaceful country, with no threat or hint of war or of an armed attack. With
hopes of gathering support for the decision to declare war on Japan. Personification is commonly used
throughout the speech, Pearl Harbor Address, that was given to the nation by President D. Roosevelt.
First off, seen in the very beginning of the speech, a date which will live in infamy, is an effective use
of personification. Obviously a date can t live in infamy which makes it personification, he uses it to
draw more attention to the date. Later in the speech, Roosevelt says, The facts of yesterday and today
speak for themselves. Roosevelt uses personification here by saying that facts are speaking, allowing
them to further stand out. The first quote works by describing the day of tragedy to forever be
remembered as infamy, readers and listeners are more aware of the destruction done. Making it seem
like their is nothing that they can now do but go to war with Japan. The second quote works by
drawing attention to the facts, in hope of the facts angering the people in order to convince them to his
side. Later, throughout the speech Roosevelt effectively uses parallelism to try and get more people to
support him. To begin, towards the end of the speech Roosevelt states, There is no blinking at the fact
that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger. , Roosevelt starts the sentence with
a metaphor, but continues to use the phrase, our, saying, our people, our territory, and our interests,
creating attention for what he is about to say next, witch is what makes this quote parallelism. Lather

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Near Threshold Voltage...
Near Threshold Voltage (NTV) Circuits Design, Future Opportunities and Challenges  Abstract
Using Moore s law, we will continue to get abundant transistors which only will be limited by the
amount of energy consumed. Energy efficiency can be improved to many orders of magnitude with
the help of Near Threshold Voltage (NTV). There are various Design techniques required for reliable
operation on a wide range of input voltage from very low to sub threshold region. Coming to the
systems designed for NTVs, they can select their modes of operation dynamically from very high
performances, to high efficient energy modes and also to lowest power. Index Terms Near Threshold

In case of many core systems where the number of core is large, the cores will exhibit various
frequency of operation due to the variations. By assigning the nearest value of operation to these
cores, and due to the law of large numbers , the overall logic output would not be affected. Figure 2:
Frequency assignment in many core system Sub threshold Leakage: The sub threshold leakage power
will mainly have two bad effects. (1) disproportionately large leakage in power , and (2) higher
variability in the leakage of power. Active power reduces cubically, but leakage power does not, and
this is the main reason why, larger share of sub threshold leakage power are with NTV operations
except leaving out the disproportionality. Figure 3: Sub threshold leakage power The total power
consumption is very much lower , but there will be substantial leakage power. At low level logic
activity, the active power is low, the leakage power dominates, reducing the NTV effectiveness for
energy efficiency. Thus, in combination with sleep transistors or power gating chips, fine grain power
leakage management will be much more important. SRAM AND REGISTER

Macroeconomic Outlook of U.S. Economy Essay
Investment Analysis Macroeconomic outlook of U.S. economy For every four to six years U.S
economy faces an economic slowdown. Thus the current market is now in forth year. The root of U.S.

financial meltdown in 2008. In average, the American trying to make ends meet in 2014, a market and

the U.S. national debt stood at $9.2 trillion. Figures figure out by the White House, the national debt

consumers feel more protected then a righteous way of spending is getting better, more consumer

The Effect Of Riluzole On Treating Motor Neuron Disease...
6.10 Discussion
Neuroprotective activity of riluzole is already reported in the literature. At present, it is the only
available successful drug for treating motor neuron disease like ALS. But its poor aqueous solubility,
short half life with some side effects at higher concentration (as it is recommended twice or thrice a
day for long time) restricted its use as a neuroprotective agent (Borderias Clau, 2006; Cheah, 2010). In
the present study, we have evaluated the neuroprotective activity of nanoriluzole (NR) for treating one
of the most severe brain diseases at a quite low dose using nanocarrier. MCAO is one the best model
for ischemic stroke as it mimic most of the feature of natural brain stroke (Longa, 1989; Heurteaux,
2006; Vaibhav, 2013). Ischemia was induced in rats through MCAO model for 1 hr followed by a
reperfusion period of 24 hrs and NR was given intraperitonally after 1 hr of ischemia induction.
Animals were evaluated for their behavior study and sacrificed to remove the brain for analysing
various related parameters like infarct, biochemical, histopathology and immunohistochemical study.
It is very well demonstrated that MCAO results in the injury to striatum, cortex and hippocampus
region depending upon the time of occlusion of MCA and reperfusion period (Longa, 1989;
Nagasawa, 1989; Heurteaux, 2006). This can be clearly visualized using TTC staining. TTC which is

Causes Of Air Pollution Essay
A big major problem in today s world is air pollution, and it is a major cause of climate change. Air
pollution affects many thing in the world. It affects our crops, our animals, and also us people who can
suffer terribly from air pollution. People who have medical problems like lung cancer, and asthma can
die because our lungs aren t meant to take in all those toxins in our bodies, and our bodies react in a
negative way when those toxins are put into the body. Our plants and animal have nothing to with
causing air pollution and they have to suffer because of humans who are polluting the air with carbon,
and greenhouse gases. They plants could be affected which the animals eat. Then the animals eat the
plants get affected and then we eat the animals which can get everyone sick and eventually die. If we
want to live longer and stay healthy we have to get rid of air pollution. ASAP.
Recent studies show that in 1982, approximately 1.2 million adults got lung cancer or died according
to Arden Pope III. The reason these people got sick and/or died is because of air pollution. People that
smoke cigarettes are more likely to get lung cancer, than people who don t smoke and the smokers are
causing pollution also. Their not only affecting themselves with pollution, but their affecting other
people s lives with the smoke that their releasing into the surface. For example myself. I have asthma

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Speed Control Of Induction...
Abstract The three phase squirrel cage induction motor is the most widely used motor type in the
industry because of its good self starting capability, simple and rugged structure, low cost and
reliability. In spite of this popularity, the induction motor has two basic limitations: (i) The standard
motor is not a true constant speed machine, its full load slip varies from less than 1% (in high
horsepower motors) to more than 5% (in fractional horsepower motors), and (ii) It is not inherently
capable of providing variable speed operation. The limitations of induction motor can be solved
through the use of adjustable speed control method of induction machine. In this paper, various
method of speed control of induction motor drive are presented. ... Show more content on

Switching power converters offer an easy way to regulate both the frequency and magnitude of the
voltage and current applied to a motor shown in fig(1). As a result much higher efficiency and
performance can be achieved by these motor drives with less generated noises[3]. Figure 1 Variable
Voltage Variable Frequency Control Schematic The most common principle of this kind is the constant
V/Hz principle which requires that the magnitude and frequency of the voltage applied to the stator of
a motor maintain a constant ratio. By doing this, the magnitude of the magnetic field in the stator is
kept at an approximately constant level throughout the operating range. Thus, (maximum) constant
torque producing capability is maintained. When transient response is critical, switching power
converters also allow easy control of transient voltage and current applied to the motor to achieve
faster dynamic response. II. METHODS OF SPEED CONTROL OF INDUCTION MOTOR
Mathematically, relation between speed of induction motor and synchronous speed can be stated as, n
= (1 s) ns where n_s=120f/P which implies that there are two basic ways of speed control, namely Slip
control for fixed synchronous speed. Control of synchronous

Quest for the Holy Grail, which expects every knights to stay virgin, or the Praise of the New
Knighthood, in which Bernard de Clairvaux urges the new religious order of knighthood to be chased

out of sync with the reality of knight. For instance, Charny encourages marriages for love, when both
spouses are very young and will produce heirs, rather than alliances for wealth, lands and social status,
which was yet the most common thing among the nobility. Expectations on knights behaviours always

The Environmental Effects Of Plastics
Plastic bags have been a popular commodity since the 1970 s due to their convenience and sturdiness;
however, plastic bags are a victim of their own success. These flyaway bags have detrimental effects
on the environment; they fill the trees and clog the storm drains. In response, many states in the U.S.
have imposed bag taxes in an effort to reduce their use. These taxes have reduced the frivolous use of
plastic bags and have heightened our awareness of their detrimental effects, but concerns arise over
the negative effects of the taxes on the economy and, surprisingly, the environment as well.

This poses an economic threat for retailers. The economic advantage of plastic bags are too significant
for retailers to ignore. While advocates of these taxes argue that it will reduce the use of plastic bags,
many argue that these taxes fail to protect the environment and economy of the U.S.
Over a 100 cities across the U.S. have imposed taxes on plastic bags after watching countries in
Europe have favorable results. Tony Lowes, director of the Friends of the Irish Environment, claims
that Ireland s 15 cent tax on plastic bags has resulted in a 95 percent reduction in their use (qtd. in
Roach 3). Similarly, cities in the U.S. imposed taxes in an effort to achieve effective results. A bag tax
in Washington D.C. has resulted in a 50 percent decrease in single bag usage (Bayly 3). On the other
side of the country, Los Angeles went from using 2.2 million bags a year to using 125,000 a year after
the tax on bags went into effect (Bayly 3); nonetheless, advocates of plastic bags have brought to light
the harsh reality of taxes. Bag taxes pose an economic threat for both retailers and consumers. Areas
that have imposed taxes experienced a decrease in sales while areas not subject to taxes experienced
an increase in sales. According to a survey conducted by the National Center for Policy Analysis,
these taxes force many stores to reduce their employment by more than 10% (qtd. in Gleason 4).

Descriptive Essay On The Border
If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican
parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister
city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky
person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and
understand the environment from two different perspectives.
In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t
respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been
exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the
Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of
the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras
in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to
spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment
events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people
and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially
Mexican Americans, like me.
I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father,
a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact
that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was able to run a
successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic
concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The
combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until
it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border.
The drug war exploded and Cd. Juarez had become famous as one of the most dangerous cities. The
streets were filled with violence and a numerous amount of people were

Examples Of Daisy Being Selfish In The Great Gatsby
Selfishness is a disease of the soul that every person experiences several times throughout their life.
To say that selfishness has never been experienced would be hypocrisy. To say that selfishness is a
beneficial trait would be erroneous. Although as humans we lie to ourselves, there is no question that
selfishness can make any person a fool. Being selfish consumes us and changes us into someone we
are not. Whether it leads to getting people killed, losing love, or abolishing families, selfishness
always leads to destruction. Selfish people place their own wants, needs, and happiness before
anything or anyone else. Furthermore, they do not feel obligated to help others with what they need.

Although Daisy may seem sweet, it is difficult not to over think her actions throughout the book. If
Daisy was always in love with Gatsby as she proclaimed she had been, then how did she move on so
quickly? It is tempting to jump to the conclusion that she had only married Tom for his money.
Additionally, it is evident that Daisy is aware of Tom having an affair with Myrtle Wilson. Knowing
this, was Daisy truly in love with Gatsby after he returned, or was she only acting this way in
retaliation to Tom s affair? If both of these theories are true, that qualifies Daisy as the most selfish
person in the novel. These actions cause us to question Daisy s character throughout the novel;
however, there is one incident that is unmistakably an act of selfishness. While Daisy was driving
Gatsby and herself home, she ran over Myrtle Wilson, Tom s mistress. Some believed it was an
accident, but Daisy never stopped driving. The death car, as the newspapers called it, didn t stop; it
came out of the gathering darkness, wavered tragically for a moment and then disappeared around the
next bend. (Fitzgerald 144) Because she was in Gatsby s car, he inadvertently took the blame and
eventually got himself killed. The author merely discloses that Daisy and Tom had gone away never to
return. Was Gatsby s death a result of Daisy s selfishness? Daisy s selfish desires destroyed
relationships and

The Treaty Of The Soviet Union Essay
Since 1952, an integral part of the U.S. nuclear deterrence posture has been the forward deployment of
nuclear weapons in NATO NNWS (Non Nuclear Weapon States). The governments of Belgium,
Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Turkey all maintain U.S. nuclear weapons on their soil. Prior to the
collapse of the USSR in 1991, these weapons provided a form of deterrence against potential Soviet
aggression and incursion into Western Europe.
Since the fall of the Soviet Union, questions have arisen regarding the legitimacy of forward deployed
US nuclear arms as a necessary and continued form of deterrence; Parliamentarians in Belgium,
Germany and the Netherlands have all expressed their desire to rid nuclear weapons from their states.
However, since 2008, the European security environment has begun to face mounting instability
challenges in Eastern Europe as the result of renewed Russian hostility. The renewal of Russian
hostility is paramount to the discussion regarding U.S. forward deployment and NATO nuclear
deterrence strategies. The resurgence of Russia has created an increasingly difficult set of problems
that the U.S. must face regarding the forward deployment of nuclear arms. Should U.S. forward
deployment policies remain, and perhaps even be revamped to counter Russian hostilities? Or, should
U.S. forward deployed nuclear weapons be withdrawn from NATO allied states, perhaps unilaterally
without Russian reciprocation; in order to deescalate what has the potential to be a

The Cause And Effects Of Desertification
Introduction
Desertification is the development of desert like conditions in regions that have experienced human
disturbance (Laura, n.d.). Drought, growing population and war are factors affecting desertification.
They have their tremendous impacts; however, they can be solved.
Causes
Drought is one of the most related factors to desertification. It is defined as a long period of time when
there is little or no rain. Drought can be caused by not receiving rain over a period of time. This is
because of climate change which has been affecting us badly since many decades. Moreover, humans
can be the cause too because they use too much water during times of normal rainfall which leads to
the immediate consequence that we might not have enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It has been said that growing in population will lead to farming too little land because of crawling
buildings in grasslands. The growing population can cause destruction of grass lands and this can
cause desertification.
Drought and growing populations are not only the two causes of desertification but also there is a third
reason which is war. War happens due to many reasons such as economics, land, resources, religious
beliefs, and importantly power (Halo3Pro, 2011).
War contributes badly to cause desertification. People start eliminating themselves and leaving their
lands empty and dusty. A great example that supports this point is the radiation in Japan. When the
hydrogen bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, thousands of people were
killed. Additionally, the bomb left disastrous environment in the surrounding areas. Chemicals and
poisons had destroyed everything including plants and the most fundamental gas for breathing which
is oxygen. Although war has massive destruction in many areas in the world which ends up with
causing desertification, Oman has been living in peace and it has not been through such

for his novella, Jekyll and Hyde (1893). In this work, Utterson, a lawyer, discovers the horrible secrets
his friend, Dr. Jekyll, has been hiding from him and the consequences that result. Straying away from
mainstream science, Jekyll pursues his own catastrophic interests in order to separate the two sides of
his morality and thusly creates his brutish double, Hyde. This text introduces the idea of human
duality and brings forth the question of morality. However, duality, although important, is only one
aspect of this novella, and there are other points of intrigue. An example of this intrigue is the role of
women or rather the lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, Jekyll has no understandable justification to explain his experimentation, and his character
can come across as irrational. Next, Campbell argues that, in order to focus on how the patriarchy
operates and fails within the context of the novella, women were eliminated. As previously stated, this
text revolves around a male centric plot in which women do not play a role. Essentially, this story is
about communities of men , focusing on their interactions and experiences in the London city as they
attempt to uncover the secret of Hyde (Hampson 109). In theory, women could potentially distract
from the story that Stevenson wanted to tell, and he consequently removed women from any important
role (Eberle Sinatra and Beauvais 151). Moving on, Stevenson himself even claimed to have
difficulties bringing characters to life, in particular women, and this problem extends to some of his
other works where women, and love as well, play a small role in comparison to the importance of the
male characters (Linehan 34). While expressing disdain with male vanity and also with men s typical
perceptions of women, Stevenson also conveyed fascination with the idea of how men underestimate
women. By excluding women from his story, Stevenson may have cleverly demonstrated this
underestimation, using both himself, as the writer, and the male characters in Jekyll and Hyde to
explain this phenomenon. Nonetheless, some

What Is The Heartbeat Thief Essay Answers
1. Please give us a short introduction to The Heartbeat Thief
The Heartbeat Thief is a paranormal tale that begins in Victorian England. Senza Fyne is a young
woman whose mother is arranging an advantageous marriage for her daughter. Two things stand in the
way of Senza s scripted destiny: her overwhelming fear of death, and her increasing infatuation with a
mysterious stranger, Mr. Knell.
When Knell offers an escape from the worst of her fears the chance to remain young and beautiful for
all eternity she seizes the opportunity without realizing the price she ll pay.
What would you do with a life if it lasted forever?

Judging by the Edgar Allan Poe quotes in your book you seem to be a fan of the author. What do you
think it is about his writing that made his work so iconic?
Poe was a haunted, melancholy man whose writing was raw and soul borne. While his contemporaries
were following the path to transcendentalism, he instead chose to write in the gothic style. Perhaps it
was to give the masses what they wanted: transcendentalism was an intellectual, elevated form while
gothic verses spoke to the everyday man and our preoccupation with darkness and death.
Spooky tales, mournful epitaphs, tales of loss and longing and failure these were the types of stories
that spoke of humanity and mortality. They were dark but they were accessible. In a world where
séances were the entertainment of the day and where morbid death traditions were as important as the
rules of courtship, Poe was the ultimate storyteller.
His work survived the passage of time because, like Senza Fyne, his work was not constrained by it.
His work is truly timeless.
9. What do you hope your readers will take away from this book? Does it contain an underlying
message about growing old and

Gandhi Liberation And Decolonitarianism
Mohandas K. Gandhi`s writing in the Autobiography (1927) can be interpreted as a cascade of
significant events throughout his life that led to him becoming one of the most universally recognized
icon on earth. Gandhi is able to find a meaning in each event of his life that attaches him to the notions
of non violence, liberation, and decolonization. In this specific writing by Gandhi, it highlights little
events such as his childhood where he treated it as an experiment stage, doing things like smoking and
eating meat which were looked down up. From these experiences he understood concepts like ahisma
and adharm. Deeper into the text, Gandhi talks about complication`s that arise in his life. Things like
being kicked out of his caste because he chose to go to England to study Law and despite going
through all the training and education he opposed by the Law society due to his colour in terms of
admission to the Supreme Court as a lawyer. Despite these events, Gandhi was able to recognize that it
is not necessarily important for him to simply tag along but he felt that he was now obligated to speak
up and question individuals, organizations, and the government. He was able to realize that with his
knowledge in law (political) and his values derived from religion (metaphysical) he had the tools to
overcome societal issues (civil).
What is Gandhi`s overall or major arguments?
Gandhi`s main argument in the Autobiography is his own quest for the truth which is embodied in the

Use Of Strategic Hrm Practices When Comparing The Oecd...
Thorough, relegation has taken to broadly similar working diagrams across the whole government.
Spain produces considerably less use of strategic HRM practices when comparing to the OECD
average. A regular liability diagram for management does not exist and statistics are not available
when it comes to HRM issues that management plans and reports on. Nonetheless, organized
progressive planning is in use, and covers a large range of topics related to long term management
issues. When it comes to recruitment, Spain uses a hiring system that is completely related to a career
base. One has to go through a competitive examination that is managed centrally. A time of practical
work is also part of the examination process. Most positions are done internally and some allowed
external recruitment through the direct application process. Even over the years, no change or
improvement has been made towards the use of external recruitment. Spain does not give any statistics
including policies to better the process of hiring of not skilled population.
Compared to the OECD countries, Spain does not make much use of one s performance in their HR
decision making process. Spain does not offer any statistics on how they evaluate their employees,
where Spain only uses assessment for some employees only. Spain only takes into criteria a couple
things with performance, such as activities undertaken, outputs and the effect of cost at work.
Valuation does not have much value to career improvement,

The Impact Of Social Media On Our Society
(Show clips from Joey, Connor, Ingrid, Troye and Hannah s coming out videos)
(Black out)
These people are highly respected by this, the social media generation. They are role models and yet,
they do not have the same rights as many others. They cannot marry the ones they love.
(Cut to me)
Harper Lee wrote it well, you never truly understand a person until you climb inside his skin and walk
around in it. Imagine the whole world was flipped, and being homosexual was the norm and
heterosexuality was considered abnormal. By the standards of the church you were disowned and you
couldn t marry the one you loved. Would you try to fight for your own rights? So that if you were

After presenting the evidence from both perspectives, I will then evaluate whether the legalisation of
gay marriage can be seen as a step towards considerable social change or if the evidence given aligns
more thoroughly with the arguments of cultural conflict. Unquestionably based upon the acquired
research, it can be seen that Marriage Equality is an inevitable social change to come in the following
years in Australian society.
(__)
Gay Marriage in the past few years has been a topic that has been highly debated and discussed. As
with any controversial issue, there are two sides to this argument. One side, the opposition, cites
religious view points and concerns about fornication and further raisse concerns that the rights of
marriage should be restricted to heterosexual couples (Debate.org). An increasing number on this side
of the argument have recently changed their opinions over the last few years as a result of mounting
pressure from LGBTI groups. People supporting marriage equality assert that marriage is a civil right
and therefore should not have restrictions based on sexual orientation. This side firmly believes that
love, not sexual orientation, is grounds enough for marriage (Debate.org). The supporting side seems
to be the populist view point, as evidenced from the recent changes of law in some of the most
prominent countries in the world, such as America.

For example, WBHS LAN are all the computers connected to the WBHS network via Ethernet, Wi fi or other. This is different from a WAN (Wide area network) which extends to a much wider area such as a town, city and country. LAN are usually more restricted in access and more numerous. • 4. Black Panther Exchanges Gases The black panther exchanges gases and breathes just like humans using their lungs. Black panthers lungs are a bit larger considering their size and weight. First, the breathing starts at the panther s nose and mouth. The panther inhales air into their nose or mouth and into their windpipe, or in other words, trachea. Trachea then divides into tiny air passages called bronchial tubes. As the bronchial tubes pass through the lungs, they divide into even smaller air passages called bronchioles. Bronchioles end in tiny balloon air sacs called alveoli. Next, the alveoli are then surrounded by a mesh on small blood vessels called capillaries. At this stage, oxygen from the inhaled air of the panther passes through the alveoli walls and into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Manhattan Project Lifesaver Or Life Destroyer Essay The Manhattan Project Lifesaver or Life Destroyer Going throughout history and the mistakes we have made throughout, you would think back and say if we did the right thing or if we have made a huge mistake. In this case it is the Manhattan Project. This project was first time the atomic bomb was introduced. It was led by General Leslie Groves and the research was directed by American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Most of the people who worked on this project were not told what they were working on, but only told what to do. In this case, was it right to lie to the people working on this project, was it necessary not to tell the U.S. community, and was it necessary to bomb Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Manhattan Project was necessary for certain things, but not all. As human beings, we tend to lie to people. Whether it be to your parents, friends, or school teachers. It is just a thing we do to keep ourselves from getting in trouble. When working on the Manhattan Project, certain people were not told what the project is. Others were told but were not allowed to tell anyone else. This was because they did not want the US community to know. They didn t know what type of response they would get. If you put yourself in one of the workers shoes and then realized what you have been working on, you would feel so bad because you created a weapon of Lazaro 2 destruction. In the Western world, improved treatments and screening programmes have resulted in a 5 year survival of 80 90% (WHO, 2016). However, a third of breast cancer patients are found to have distant metastases at diagnosis, bringing their 5 year survival rate down by 25% (Siegel et al., 2004). Tumour Micro environment The tumour stroma appears to be a major factor in tumour progression after initial tumour formation (Conklin and Keely, 2007). It initially protects against tumourigenesis; but neoplastic cells cause changes and recruit various other cell lines with a multitude of functions, forming a tumour micro environment (TME). This is defined as a heterogeneous population of cells consisting of the tumor bulk plus supporting cells (Bussard et al., 2006). The tumour cells recruit the stroma cells and cause a reactive phenotype, known as tumor associated stromal cells (TASCs). Mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial cells, pericytes, fibroblasts and various other immune cells are all components of the TME,each with specific functions. When activated, they take on a similar in function to those found in inflammation and wound healing and cause fibroblast infiltration, recruitment of immune cells, remodelling of the extracellular matrix. This is why cancer has been likened to a wound that never heals, the tumour stroma being chronically activated and promoting growth and angiogenesis (Dvorak, 1984). The rapid proliferation of tumour cells soon exhausts the existing vascular supply and brings about a hypoxic environment in the TME (Coussens and Werb, 2005). The nature of the sport evokes intense and sporadic emotions which encourages the oppressor to express their truest emotions. As a result, one can conclude that racism is deeply rooted within that player s beliefs, and which is not exclusive to this incident. The next example of racism in minor hockey involves parent s involvement in the problem. Parents yelled racial slurs and insults, including Go home, Mohammed, at a referee on the ice (CBC, 2015). This is a particularly disturbing incident which speaks volumes to the root of the problem. It is explained that parents have a very passionate belief and concern attached to preserving the segregation of the sport. Even the diversity of referees is a sensitive area to the existing culture. Furthermore, this incident speaks volumes to the acceptance and magnitude of racist behaviour demonstrated even by parents. In other words, parents are so outraged by the inclusion of visible minorities in the game that they cannot contain their racist thoughts to

  • 12. Ayn Rand s Arguments Psychological And Ethical Egoism Psychological and Ethical Egoism Topic 2: Humans tend to help others to benefit themselves rather than the person s actual needs. It has been said that everyone is selfish in everything that they do. Psychological egoism states this very theory. It says that humans are motivated by self interest to help others, even in cases of altruism. Ethical egoism however, states that people ought to do what is in their self interest. This differs from psychological egoism since that is what humans do selfishly to help others. When we help people in need are we really helping them to better themselves, or rather we are doing so we feel better about ourselves? There are two arguments in favor of psychological egoism. The first argument states that we do what we most want to do. This means that people only do what exactly they want to do. James Rachel s, a famous philosopher believes that this argument is flawed. Analysis Of The Book Huckleberry Finn Representation of Jim in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn In the opening of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Jim, an escaped slave previously owned by Miss Watson, is a simple, kind, and generous man who is also almost superstitious to a fault. However, Jim develops as a character throughout the novel in a humble passage from slave to free man and Tom Sawyer s savior. This character transformation manifests itself throughout Jim and Huck s time together in a search for freedom and a path back to Jim s family that he left behind. While on the journey, Jim must run at night, hide during the day, and endure the loneliness of his situation constantly while taking care of Huck; this determination and personal strength despite oppression by white people make Jim one of the only respectable adults in the novel. Through courageous and selfless acts, the initially simple Jim demonstrates loyalty, love, strength, and wisdom to establish himself as a heroic figure in the novel. Jim seems to have a superstition for any occasion one could think of, but Jim is a product of his time and his beliefs provide answers to phenomenon that people could not explain. As a first impression at Miss Watson s house, Jim s superstitious ways come across as idiocy as he thinks that, witches bewitched him and put him in a trance, and rode him all over the State, and then set him under the trees again ; However, the superstitions ultimately gain depth and background starting with Jim and Huck s time ... (339) Do not make judgements based on appearances, because appearance is not all there is. Here Pip, the main protagonist of Charles Dickens s Great Expectations, misses the important message that his guardian is trying to convey to him, and will only come to learn his lesson at the end of the story. Pip is the recipient of a great fortune from an anonymous benefactor and is left to wonder who this mysterious person is throughout the novel. He has an idea as to who his benefactor may be, but as he is sworn to secrecy, he cannot discuss the idea with his fellow acquaintances and is left to his own thoughts and assumptions. This later on leads him to create many ideas as to what his life will turn out to be, and only leads him to his own suffering. Pip s suffering throughout the novel is a result of his self deception and falling victim to his love for a particular, cold hearted lady, but ultimately learns through his suffering the value of one s actions and character. Upon meeting Miss Havisham, a well known, wealthy lady who led a life of seclusion, and her beautiful adopted daughter, Estella, for the first time, Pip s life changes forever. However, falling for the beautiful, admirable Estella only causes Pip suffering. While Pip and Estella play a game of cards at Miss Havisham s request, Estella comments on Pip s coarse hands and thick boots with great disdain. Pip does not reply to Estella s remark, but instead provides an insight into his thoughts at her words, I had never thought of being ashamed of my hands before; but I began to consider them a very indifferent pair. Her contempt for me was so strong that it became infectious, and I caught it. (60). In this passage, Pip mentions that before hearing the words of Estella, he had never been shameful of his hands before. Although his hands and boots have always been a part of him, the contempt that Estella has towards these little things gives them a whole new meaning to Pip their appearance has now become something to be ashamed of, I took the opportunity of being alone in the courtyard to look at my coarse hands and common boots. The book took place during Civil War times and went into good detail on what happened during the battles at Gettysburg. The first quote that I found interesting was from the Union Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain. The fact of slavery upon this incredibly beautiful new clean earth was appalling, but more even than that was the horror of old Europe, the curse of nobility, which the South was transplanting to new soil (Shaara 27). This quote was significant because it described the feelings of the average Union soldier towards slavery. The Union fought to end slavery because as shown by people like Chamberlain, they believed that slavery was against a man s good nature and did not want it to effect the new land of the United States. • 24. Rhetorical Analysis Of Pearl Harbor Speech Hours after Pearl Harbor was bombed by Japan, gaining worldwide headlines, giving millions unanswered questions, the speech, Pearl Harbor Address to the Nation was given one day after the event. On December 8th 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave a speech to be remembered today, by using rhetorical devices and figurative language to strongly picture his message to the public, making great use of parallel structure, personification, parallelism, and climax ordering to enforce his key point of wanting Americans to stand up against the Japanese forces for the deliberate actions done towards there peaceful country, with no threat or hint of war or of an armed attack. With hopes of gathering support for the decision to declare war on Japan. Personification is commonly used throughout the speech, Pearl Harbor Address, that was given to the nation by President D. Roosevelt. First off, seen in the very beginning of the speech, a date which will live in infamy, is an effective use of personification. Obviously a date can t live in infamy which makes it personification, he uses it to draw more attention to the date. Later in the speech, Roosevelt says, The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. Roosevelt uses personification here by saying that facts are speaking, allowing them to further stand out. The first quote works by describing the day of tragedy to forever be remembered as infamy, readers and listeners are more aware of the destruction done. Making it seem like their is nothing that they can now do but go to war with Japan. The second quote works by drawing attention to the facts, in hope of the facts angering the people in order to convince them to his side. Later, throughout the speech Roosevelt effectively uses parallelism to try and get more people to support him. To begin, towards the end of the speech Roosevelt states, There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger. , Roosevelt starts the sentence with a metaphor, but continues to use the phrase, our, saying, our people, our territory, and our interests, creating attention for what he is about to say next, witch is what makes this quote parallelism. Near Threshold Voltage (NTV) Circuits Design, Future Opportunities and Challenges  Abstract Using Moore s law, we will continue to get abundant transistors which only will be limited by the amount of energy consumed. Energy efficiency can be improved to many orders of magnitude with the help of Near Threshold Voltage (NTV). There are various Design techniques required for reliable operation on a wide range of input voltage from very low to sub threshold region. Coming to the systems designed for NTVs, they can select their modes of operation dynamically from very high performances, to high efficient energy modes and also to lowest power. (1) disproportionately large leakage in power , and (2) higher variability in the leakage of power. Active power reduces cubically, but leakage power does not, and this is the main reason why, larger share of sub threshold leakage power are with NTV operations except leaving out the disproportionality. Figure 3: Sub threshold leakage power The total power consumption is very much lower , but there will be substantial leakage power. At low level logic activity, the active power is low, the leakage power dominates, reducing the NTV effectiveness for energy efficiency. • 27. The Effect Of Riluzole On Treating Motor Neuron Disease... 6.10 Discussion Neuroprotective activity of riluzole is already reported in the literature. At present, it is the only available successful drug for treating motor neuron disease like ALS. But its poor aqueous solubility, short half life with some side effects at higher concentration (as it is recommended twice or thrice a day for long time) restricted its use as a neuroprotective agent (Borderias Clau, 2006; Cheah, 2010). In the present study, we have evaluated the neuroprotective activity of nanoriluzole (NR) for treating one of the most severe brain diseases at a quite low dose using nanocarrier. MCAO is one the best model for ischemic stroke as it mimic most of the feature of natural brain stroke (Longa, 1989; Heurteaux, 2006; Vaibhav, 2013). Ischemia was induced in rats through MCAO model for 1 hr followed by a reperfusion period of 24 hrs and NR was given intraperitonally after 1 hr of ischemia induction. Animals were evaluated for their behavior study and sacrificed to remove the brain for analysing various related parameters like infarct, biochemical, histopathology and immunohistochemical study. It is very well demonstrated that MCAO results in the injury to striatum, cortex and hippocampus region depending upon the time of occlusion of MCA and reperfusion period (Longa, 1989; Nagasawa, 1989; Heurteaux, 2006). • 29. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Speed Control Of Induction... Abstract The three phase squirrel cage induction motor is the most widely used motor type in the industry because of its good self starting capability, simple and rugged structure, low cost and reliability. In spite of this popularity, the induction motor has two basic limitations: (i) The standard motor is not a true constant speed machine, its full load slip varies from less than 1% (in high horsepower motors) to more than 5% (in fractional horsepower motors), and (ii) It is not inherently capable of providing variable speed operation. The limitations of induction motor can be solved through the use of adjustable speed control method of induction machine. In this paper, various method of speed control of induction motor drive are presented. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result much higher efficiency and performance can be achieved by these motor drives with less generated noises[3]. Figure 1 Variable Voltage Variable Frequency Control Schematic The most common principle of this kind is the constant V/Hz principle which requires that the magnitude and frequency of the voltage applied to the stator of a motor maintain a constant ratio. By doing this, the magnitude of the magnetic field in the stator is kept at an approximately constant level throughout the operating range. Thus, (maximum) constant torque producing capability is maintained. When transient response is critical, switching power converters also allow easy control of transient voltage and current applied to the motor to achieve faster dynamic response. II. METHODS OF SPEED CONTROL OF INDUCTION MOTOR Mathematically, relation between speed of induction motor and synchronous speed can be stated as, n = (1 s) ns where n_s=120f/P which implies that there are two basic ways of speed control, namely Slip control for fixed synchronous speed. Descriptive Essay On The Border If I had to give the word luck a meaning, I would start by stating that being born to my Mexican parents and being raised in the international border between Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua and its sister city of El Paso, Texas where two cultures clash and become one, has made me an incredibly lucky person. Being able to move freely between both countries has given me the ability to observe and understand the environment from two different perspectives. In a time of globalization, and taking out of the equation old and recent political events that don t respond to progress, the traditional idea of a border seems long lost. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to the realities that make a border a complex setting. On average 22,000 people cross the Juarez El Paso border daily; 1,000 of them being students seeking a better education; others are part of the workforce that impulses the economy of both cities working either in any of the 350 maquiladoras in the area or other jobs. On the other hand, some people enjoy crossing the border to visit family or to spend a day in one of the many shopping centers in the El Paso area as well as in other entertainment events. The border offers a strong sense of culture and traditions on both sides which serves its people and visitors. This international relationship is critical to the lives of many people, yet especially Mexican Americans, like me. I grew up in Cd. Juarez, in a house and an engraving business that my father inherited from his father, a man who landed in Juarez seeking opportunities that he later turned into a business. Given the fact that my father, just like my grandfather, didn t have formal higher education, and still was able to run a successful business, has taught me the value of hard work and dedication. I also learned the basic concepts of team work, through my mother who would help my father with the business. The combination of these qualities allowed me and my siblings to grow up in a healthy environment until it all changed about a decade ago during the dark times of the border. The Treaty Of The Soviet Union Essay Since 1952, an integral part of the U.S. nuclear deterrence posture has been the forward deployment of nuclear weapons in NATO NNWS (Non Nuclear Weapon States). Prior to the collapse of the USSR in 1991, these weapons provided a form of deterrence against potential Soviet aggression and incursion into Western Europe. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, questions have arisen regarding the legitimacy of forward deployed US nuclear arms as a necessary and continued form of deterrence; Parliamentarians in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands have all expressed their desire to rid nuclear weapons from their states. Straying away from mainstream science, Jekyll pursues his own catastrophic interests in order to separate the two sides of his morality and thusly creates his brutish double, Hyde. Next, Campbell argues that, in order to focus on how the patriarchy operates and fails within the context of the novella, women were eliminated. As previously stated, this text revolves around a male centric plot in which women do not play a role. Essentially, this story is about communities of men , focusing on their interactions and experiences in the London city as they attempt to uncover the secret of Hyde (Hampson 109). In theory, women could potentially distract from the story that Stevenson wanted to tell, and he consequently removed women from any important role (Eberle Sinatra and Beauvais 151). Moving on, Stevenson himself even claimed to have difficulties bringing characters to life, in particular women, and this problem extends to some of his other works where women, and love as well, play a small role in comparison to the importance of the male characters (Linehan 34). While expressing disdain with male vanity and also with men s typical perceptions of women, Stevenson also conveyed fascination with the idea of how men underestimate women. By excluding women from his story, Stevenson may have cleverly demonstrated this underestimation, using both himself, as the writer, and the male characters in Jekyll and Hyde to explain this phenomenon. Spooky tales, mournful epitaphs, tales of loss and longing and failure these were the types of stories that spoke of humanity and mortality. They were dark but they were accessible. In a world where séances were the entertainment of the day and where morbid death traditions were as important as the rules of courtship, Poe was the ultimate storyteller. His work survived the passage of time because, like Senza Fyne, his work was not constrained by it. His work is truly timeless. 9. What do you hope your readers will take away from this book? • 42. Gandhi Liberation And Decolonitarianism Mohandas K. Gandhi`s writing in the Autobiography (1927) can be interpreted as a cascade of significant events throughout his life that led to him becoming one of the most universally recognized icon on earth. Gandhi is able to find a meaning in each event of his life that attaches him to the notions of non violence, liberation, and decolonization. In this specific writing by Gandhi, it highlights little events such as his childhood where he treated it as an experiment stage, doing things like smoking and eating meat which were looked down up. From these experiences he understood concepts like ahisma and adharm. Deeper into the text, Gandhi talks about complication`s that arise in his life. Things like being kicked out of his caste because he chose to go to England to study Law and despite going through all the training and education he opposed by the Law society due to his colour in terms of admission to the Supreme Court as a lawyer. Despite these events, Gandhi was able to recognize that it is not necessarily important for him to simply tag along but he felt that he was now obligated to speak up and question individuals, organizations, and the government. He was able to realize that with his knowledge in law (political) and his values derived from religion (metaphysical) he had the tools to overcome societal issues (civil). What is Gandhi`s overall or major arguments? Gandhi`s main argument in the Autobiography is his own quest for the truth which is embodied in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Use Of Strategic Hrm Practices When Comparing The Oecd... Thorough, relegation has taken to broadly similar working diagrams across the whole government. Spain produces considerably less use of strategic HRM practices when comparing to the OECD average. A regular liability diagram for management does not exist and statistics are not available when it comes to HRM issues that management plans and reports on. Nonetheless, organized progressive planning is in use, and covers a large range of topics related to long term management issues. When it comes to recruitment, Spain uses a hiring system that is completely related to a career base. One has to go through a competitive examination that is managed centrally. A time of practical work is also part of the examination process. Most positions are done internally and some allowed external recruitment through the direct application process. Even over the years, no change or improvement has been made towards the use of external recruitment. Spain does not give any statistics including policies to better the process of hiring of not skilled population. Compared to the OECD countries, Spain does not make much use of one s performance in their HR decision making process. Spain does not offer any statistics on how they evaluate their employees, where Spain only uses assessment for some employees only. Spain only takes into criteria a couple things with performance, such as activities undertaken, outputs and the effect of cost at work. Valuation does not have much value to career improvement, ... • 44. The Impact Of Social Media On Our Society (Show clips from Joey, Connor, Ingrid, Troye and Hannah s coming out videos) (Black out) These people are highly respected by this, the social media generation. They are role models and yet, they do not have the same rights as many others. They cannot marry the ones they love. (Cut to me) Harper Lee wrote it well, you never truly understand a person until you climb inside his skin and walk around in it. Imagine the whole world was flipped, and being homosexual was the norm and heterosexuality was considered abnormal. By the standards of the church you were disowned and you couldn t marry the one you loved. Would you try to fight for your own rights? So that if you were seriously injured tomorrow, your partner could have a say in your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After presenting the evidence from both perspectives, I will then evaluate whether the legalisation of gay marriage can be seen as a step towards considerable social change or if the evidence given aligns more thoroughly with the arguments of cultural conflict. Unquestionably based upon the acquired research, it can be seen that Marriage Equality is an inevitable social change to come in the following years in Australian society. (__) Gay Marriage in the past few years has been a topic that has been highly debated and discussed. As with any controversial issue, there are two sides to this argument. One side, the opposition, cites religious view points and concerns about fornication and further raisse concerns that the rights of marriage should be restricted to heterosexual couples (Debate.org). An increasing number on this side of the argument have recently changed their opinions over the last few years as a result of mounting pressure from LGBTI groups. People supporting marriage equality assert that marriage is a civil right and therefore should not have restrictions based on sexual orientation. This side firmly believes that love, not sexual orientation, is grounds enough for marriage (Debate.org). The supporting side seems to be the populist view point, as evidenced from the recent changes of law in some of the most prominent countries in the world, such as America.
