Ecosystem In The Daintree Rainforest
Persuasive Essay The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. Saint
Augustine. I am proposing to travel to Queensland, Australia this Summer along with a chaperone.
I should go because I would experience and learn about the complex ecosystem in the Daintree
Rainforest. I should also go because I would learn many new skills, such as scuba diving, surfing,
and snorkeling. The last reason I should go is I would learn about Australias culture and history. I
should go because I would experience the complex tropical rainforest ecosystem of the
Daintree. The Daintree has a large biodiversity of both plants and animals. Many plants and
animals found there cannot be found anywhere else. For example, the Daintree has a plant called
the Idiot Fruit. It has seeds as large as a human fist, as well as many other characteristics specific to
that plant. This plant is unique to about 230 hectares of the Daintree Rainforest. Many other unique
plants and animals can be found in the Daintree, which provides me with many learning
experiences I cannot get anywhere else.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Indiana is landlocked, I have little to no opportunity to surf, scuba dive, or snorkel. This
trip would give me the opportunity to scuba dive, surf, and snorkel, as well as exposure to such
skills. Scuba diving would allow me to explore the underwater ecosystem in the coastal water of
Queensland, and I will learn much from this experience. Snorkeling would also allow me to have
a somewhat similar experience as scuba diving would. There are many other new skills I would
learn in addition to these three, which would broaden my

What Is The Gulf Country Of The United Arab Emirates
The interest of mine research topic is Gulf Country that is UAE (United Arab Emirates. In this
essay I discussed about languages, religions, life style, economy and political factors as well
which make my essay very useful and popular in term of my attempt. Its population is 9.27 million
in 2016, with the GDP of 3.847 billion USD, these statistics shows this United Arab Emirateshave
an important country in middle east. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country on the Arabian

Gulf of Oman. The UAE consists of seven emirates and was founded on 2 December 1971 as a

So this sounds very interesting topic to research on it where too many languages, people, religions
exist at the same time. The United Arab Emirates is home to a rich cultural heritage that has been
strongly influenced by its unique environment. The region s varied terrain, desert, oasis, mountains
and coast, dictated the traditional lifestyles that evolved over the centuries. A resilience and
resourcefulness necessary to survive in these harsh conditions was fostered by society s age old
tribal structure: each family was traditionally bound by obligations of mutual assistance to his
immediate relatives and to the tribe as a whole. Among the tribe an individual s selfless hospitality
was the source of his honor and pride. A common religion, Islam, also provided the cement that held
society together. The largest tribal group, the Bani Yas, roamed the vast sandy areas that cover
almost all of the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Other tribes, too, such as the Awamir and
Manasir, shared this challenging environment for numerous generations. All the subtribes and clans
were accustomed to wander great distances with their camels in search of grazing, moving as entire
family units. Almost all Bani Yas families, with the exception of the fishing groups like the Al
Rumaitha, returned to a home in one of the oasis settlements

Archetypes In The Odyssey And O Brother Where Art Thou
Among the plethora of archetypes that present themselves in Homer s The Odyssey and the film
O Brother, Where Art Thou? is the character of the Blind Prophet. This character is an older man
who has the gift of foresight, yet lacks the gift of physical sight. In the ancient epic poem, the hero
Odysseus travels to the Underworld during his time on Circe s isle to consult the blind seer
Tiresias. In the film, Ulysses Everett and his hunting group of companions encounter a nameless
blind soothsayer upon the railroad tracks after they first escape incarceration.Tiresias warns
Odysseusof the trials ahead on his journey, including the Sirens and the monstrous Scylla, giving
advice on how to best surpass them. The film s blind seer describes a long... Show more content on

This woman of surpassing beauty provides an emotional test for the hero along his journey. This
role is filled by Calypso in the epic, a gorgeous nymph whose love for Odysseus makes him her
captive for seven years. Ulysses s trek to his homeland is significantly altered by the appearance
of the Sirens down at the river, three women who try to capture the men for the bounty through
physical attraction. The Sirens of Homer s work are a challenge along the hero s travels, but they
do not play such a profound role like Calypso. The nymph s love for Odysseus was true, her heart
fixated on the hero that landed upon her isle. The Sirens of Ulysses s tale used sexual temptation to
drag the men in, their intentions driven by greed. Both Odysseus and Ulysses face these women as
their sensuous powers delay them from reaching their treasured goal: home. The presence of these
characters helps establish the protagonists humanity, demonstrating how love and temptation also
linger within the hearts of heroes. The contrast between the motivation of Calypso and the film s
Sirens shows two distinct characters: the temptress moved by love and the temptress moved by

Are Colleges Worth The Cost Of College
Attending college after high school is a choice everybody has to make. However, colleges can be
very expensive to attend. The decision to go to college hangs mostly on one question: Is college
worth the cost? Many people evaluate the cost of college by equating it to things such as family
tradition and whether or not they need it for their career. To some people, collegeis a stumbling
block, but to others, it is the key to their future. To begin, college has many benefits, despite the
cost. College teaches students more than book smarts, but also teaches life skills. Liberal Arts
graduates can be seen prominently in leadership positions in areas such as politics and culture
(Source B). In this aspect, college holds a key to a prosperous

Research
The Federal trade commission or called the FTC was created in 1914. The Federal Trade
Commission Act is the act that started this commission and its purpose was to prevent unfair
methods of competition in commerce as a part of the battle to bust the trusts. They also did this act
to enhance the informed consumer choice and public understanding of this competitive process;
and another reason was to accomplish this without the unduly burdening of legitimate business
activity. The FTC deals with issues that do with the touchline of pretty much every American in the

Summary Of The Impossibly Great Commission
Better you than me. The words have stuck to the front of my mind for weeks. After preaching a
message at a friend s church in my hometown, these were the only words one particular stranger
said to me. That is, these are the only words he said to me before giving me a pat on the back
and handing me a crumbled up ball of cash (both of these gestures were received completely
unsolicited). The sermon I delivered that morning was titled The Impossibly Great Commission .
Looking back now, I could have probably worded that better, but the message was clear, we are
purpose for a reason and we cannot achieve that purpose in our own strength. More simply put, We
need Jesus. Now fast forward one or two months to the present when I set foot for the first time
on foreign soil. Here multiple strangers with hugs and celebration greeted me. Their first words
to me? My home is your home, follow me. I am now serving as a missionary to Central America.
The people here are rich with love and humility. Every person I have met has been exceedingly
kind to me. Some children run to me to tell me their favorite Bible verses in English, the teens
invite me to play sports with them, and everyone insists on having me over for a delicious meal.
Christ gave us the commission to go and make disciples of all nations, so for now this is where
He has me. Hopefully the short account I gave of the people here in this culture made clear that I
am very thankful for the opportunity to

The Consequences Of The English Industrial Revolution
An Industrial Revolution is when a society goes from using tools or making products by hand, to
using new sources of energy, such as coal, to power machines in factories. The consequences of
the English Industrial Revolution greatly outweighed the benefits. Factories were dangerous
and detrimental to the environment, workers were treated inhumanely, and living conditions
were unbearable due to urbanization. Factories were unsafe for workers and led to high levels
of pollution. They were filled with dust which led to health problems in workers, and the coolest
part of the ironworks was 130 degrees fahrenheit (web.bcp.org). Workers were cut, bruised, and
killed because of uncovered machine shafts. In Joseph Hebergram s testimony to the Sadler
Committee, he shares a memory from his time as a child worker: Hebergam: At the L____ Mill
where I worked last, a boy was caught in a machine and had both his thigh bones broke and from
his knee to his hip the flesh was ripped up the same as it had been cut by a knife. His hand was
bruised, his eyes were nearly torn out and his arms were broken. His sister, who ran to pull him
off, had both her arms broke and her head bruised. The boy died. I do not know if the girl is
dead, but she was not expected to live (Document 2). The vast amount of coal that was burned to
produce energy for the factories greatly increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, and the
smoke from the coal turned entire cities and rivers black. Factories

Chemical Bonds
The article Toward roads that de ice themselves can be linked with our Chemical Bonds project.
This article talks about a chemical compound that would be more efficient in de icing roads than
salt. As stated in the article salt alone wears away fast, and it has to be reapplied almost every
day. The solution was a mixture of salt potassium and bitumen. This mixture was just as sturdy as
before and it de iced better than salt. The pros to this were that of it were embedded then it would
last for years, it s a better deicer than salt alone, and it was more effective. The cons were how
expensive it would be to embed this compound into the streets. This connects with our Chemical
Bonds project because it deals with making qualitative observations, chemical compounds, and
chemical bonds. This article... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first compound they started off with was NaCl which is table salt. They noticed that table salt
alone wasn t doing a great job so they tried CHKO2, which is the formula for potassium formate.
Potassium formate is an ionic compound which is a chemical compound in which ions are held
together by electrostatic forces termed ionic bonding. After they created this compound they liked
the results so they didn t need another compound. As you can see they used chemical compounds
by taking single elements and putting them together to make a new substance to de ice the roads.
This article used chemical bonds because in addition to the last paragraph to have compounds to
need to have chemical bonds. A chemical bond is an attraction between atoms that allows the
formation of a chemical. In the article they bonded together different elements to make compounds,
which they in turn helped de ice the streets. The chemical bond helped make a salt polymer
composite which would help the CHKO2 compound to stay in the road for years. Chemical bonds

Differences Between Gaap And Ifrs
Introduction
There are two distinct methods of accounting for finances in the business world. These two methods
are the methods both prescribed by the U.S., which is known as the generally accepted accounting
principles (GAAP), and that which is used by the international community known as international
financial reporting standards (IFRS). GAAP is regulated by the financial accounting standards board
(FASB) while IFRS is regulated by the international accounting standards board (IASB). These two
methods are currently under a process which is known as convergence or harmonization so that the
United States will eventually become integrated into the global community (Miller, S. E. 2009).
This will cause financial statements to be more usable for more people across the globe as well as
enhance citizens of the U.S. s ability to perform business more efficiently internationally.
Principles Versus Rules Based Methods
There are many challenges and hurdles to overcome in order to achieve harmonization between
GAAP and IFRS. The differences are widespread. Most importantly and fundamentally GAAP is
considered to be more rules based, while principalities are largely what guide the users of IFRS.
GAAP Regulations are more detailed, specific and voluminous. Conversely, IFRS regulations are
less voluminous and make allowance for more exceptions. As an example IFRS allows the
reversal of a write down after the fact while GAAP that when a write down is taken then it is
irreversible.

The Influence Of Pornography
Simon Lajeunusse, a Canadian scholar who was wishing to research the impact pornography has
on young men, was unsuccessful due to being unable to find a control group of males who have
not already viewed pornography (Weiss par. 1). Although the typical pornographic videos streamed
via the Internet are what most people today believe to be the defining form of pornography, it is also
displayed in many other mediums and has been for thousands of years. Most people see the
word pornography and immediately assume the worst, but they do not know the true definition
or the history of the 11 lettered word. From its early forms of paintings on ancient Roman walls,
and risquГ© novels during the Renaissance, to the creation of photography in the 1800s, and the
booming of videos on the Internet in the 1990s, pornography has been through it all.
Pornography is one of the most controversial topics of all time, and because of its vast meanings
and forms, there are several differing views. The saying, Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, is
very relevant when it comes to the topic of pornography. One person s view of pornography could
be another s view of beautiful art; This is when the controversy takes place. Some people believe
pornography is harmful to women because of the degrading and violent acts toward them in most
pornographic material; Others agree but believe there are other forms of pornography, erotic
material, which could benefit a viewer and a relationship. Some think

Automobile Restoration
Figuring out how to restore a vintage auto requires understanding a couple of basic steps, however
executing them will require some serious energy and planning. Time is an essential component of
any restoration job. If you are going to try to completely rebuild a car, it can take around 1,000
hours to totally restore a vintage automobile. On top of this, you re going to need a ton of parts
which can be difficult to locate and will cost quite a bit of money. Then again, there are ways to
approach the tasks at hand without cleaning out your bank account. The following tips should help
you save money if you decide to take on the project of restoring a vintage automobile.
Visit a Junkyard
When needing parts for any vintage automobile, you can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The best thing to do is to learn how to do the labour yourself. If you can handle doing most of the
work on the restoration, you will not only enjoy the pride of being able to say that you did the
work yourself, but you will also know how to maintain your vintage vehicle and will save a
boatload of money.
Find a Top Quality Parts Warehouse
Because not all of the parts that you will need for your restoration will be available through a
junkyard, it is a good idea to find a top quality parts warehouse to buy parts through. JC Whitney is
one of the best American parts warehouses to buy through if you are restoring an antique American
automobile. If you are restoring a vintage British automobile, then you might want to consider using
McLeod s British Cars. Both of these companies have been in business for more than 40 years and
are experts at locating hard to find auto parts.
Join a local Vintage Car Club
Besides finding a great parts warehouse to deal with, it is a good idea to to join a local vintage
car club. Many vintage car enthusiasts find that a local vintage car club is a great way to make
friends and find knowledgeable aficionados who will be more than happy to help you with your
vintage car restoration. The expertise and experience that members of local vintage car clubs can
share with you can be a real lifesaver when you encounter an unexpected problem in the midst of
your restoration

Biff Loman
In 1949, Arthur Miller wrote a play called The Death Of a Salesman . This play is known for its
compelling view on the mind of the middle class working man. The characters in The Death of a
Salesman all have various dimensions of development throughout the story. These characters can all
be seen as components one collective mind using Sigmund Freuds psychoanalytic theory; the
Oedipal, Id, Ego, and Superego. These characters all strive for success by way of the American
Dream and all of it s inconsistent factors and betrayal that personify it so well. Biff Loman is oldest
of the Loman brothers and had always been told he was better than everyone else. Biff believed this
and acts as if he were an Adonis for the entirety of his childhood. Biff has fed into all of the
compliments that his father gave him as a child, and now at the age of 34 is realizing that
everything that his life has been one big lie, BIFF: He walked away. I saw him for one minute. I

opportunity to look at himself and distance himself from delusions of grandeur that effect his
father and brother so severely. Happy Loman is the younger Loman brother and lacks any sense
of will or poetic want of freedom like his older brother, Biff. Happy has always stayed close to
home due to his Oedipal Complex. Happy idolized his father growing up which led him to seek
similar career opportunities and indulge in Delusions of Grandeur. Happy often lies to not only
make himself feel more important, but to impress other people,

Organizational Analysis
How an organization is structured has enormous consequences not only for the success of its
business but, also, for the success of its employees.
Though it is obvious why understanding organizations is critical to business success, nevertheless
it is worthwhile to review these reasons. The structure of a firm either enhances or hinders
efficiency and productivity. In other words, how information flows and to whom, whether and how
many parts of the work process is redundant, how clear and precise is the reporting structure, if and
how new ideas and products are promoted these and many more issues are obvious consequences of
structure and profoundly affect the success of the business.

Information systems are state of the art. The recipients of this information have to be able to act
quickly to stay on top. Thus, they have to be very team centered (to analyze the information and to
translate it into new products and services), and they have to have a great deal of leeway with
respect to decision making and authority (to respond promptly to customer needs).
A growing and successful construction company prided itself on building expensive homes geared
to client needs and adaptable to client wants. However, client requirements were initially not
addressed in depth, methods to solicit this information were not developed (e.g., the use of software
that would enable clients to imagine being inside the house as it was being built), contact was
initiated only when another payment was due, and only the owner could fix the final price of the
house. The net result was that the owner, in effect, convinced buyers what they should want,
thereby dramatically increasing the number of client initiated changes as the clients along the way
became clearer about what they wanted.
Information about customer initiated changes was frequently communicated incorrectly or late to
the field, even more increasing construction costs due to the need to undo work that had been
already completed. Sales people were pre empted at closing regarding sales price, making for rapid
turnover of sales people and suspicious

Rejected Lrt Routes By Bay Street
REJECTED LRT ROUTES
Another line we considered using but ultimately rejected was Bay street as there are too many
residential areas along that road. For instance, from Aberdeen avenue to Jackson street we noted
that there is an array of Condos and homes. Furthermore, it is a one way road with only two lanes,
meaning that there isn t enough room for a LRT, construction would have to include first widening
the road then putting in the LRT, access to the road would be virtually cut off during the time of
construction. What s More, there is no mountain access from bay street, meaning the LRT would
have to make its way over to James or to Queen to use their mountain access. This would cause

Eventually the train station will occupy the Lakeshore West GO Train meaning that the LRT

would only add to the infrastructure invested in that area The area has already been made a
station so adding a LRT stop will only add to the transportation hub put in place. From our visit to
the area from our field work, the area is not that busy so constuction won t affect that many people

lower middle income families live that an LRT would help tremendously for purposes of traveling

Psychodynamic Theory And Family Counseling
Psychodynamic Theory and Family Counseling Advantages and Disadvantages Psychodynamic
therapy has been around for ages, and has been very beneficial for clients who are suffering from
an array of difficulties in life. This form of therapy has the client focus on the past and
understand how it has positively or negatively affected his/her behavior and outlook on life.
There are many advantages and disadvantages to taking this historical approach when working
with families. Starting with the advantages of psychodynamic therapy, a client is able to re
examine past conflicts and work though unresolved issues that could be hindering his/her present
day life. Going through life and never really dealing with what is troubling you, can cause stress
and anxiety all the way into adulthood. When an individual decides to seek help for the first
time, it is beneficial for the counselor to know about the client s past experiences to fully
understand why they are the person they are today. A historical approach helps the counselor focus
on the root of the problems, and how events along the way have become overpowering struggles
that has brought the family into counseling. Understanding one s past can help a person heal and
learn to deal with new issues that may come along in the future. This type of therapy is also
beneficial because it helps the client and counselor identify reoccurring behaviors that have led to
negative outcomes. Being aware of why the behaviors occur and recognizing

The Period Of Greek Art
Midterm
Throughout the times in Greek art, Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods have changed
overtime from the sculptures in the form, style, and symmetry.
The Archaic period lasted from 700 to 500 BCE and the sculptures haven t yet mastered in
sculpting showing realism. Their style of sculpting was similar to the Egyptians in the way that
they made the bodies of the sculptures rigid with both arms on their sides and with a foot
stepped forward (Greek Archaic Art). By the end of the Archaic period in ca 500 BCE, the
sculpture s features started to look more realistic rather than rigid bodies. The ancient Greeks
also had the young, nude male called a kouros and the young, clothed female called a kore. Of
course, later on in the Classical period of Greek art, females would become nude subjects as

to change by showing more musculature and one of those could be that they started to create a
new warfare in the Archaic period. They started to build hoplite armies and the battles where
hoplites were used were really physical which created more muscle on the army. Being a hoplite
meant power and also their ranking in ancient Greek society. The hoplite fighters were idolized and
artisans liked it and attributed it into their works. This idealization also springs from the Homeric
poems being composed at his time, also mentioned in Ancient Greece and the artists, or perhaps the

Tube 1 And 2 Lab Report
Tube 1 and 2 contain functioning enzyme extract and substrate solution, ribose 5 phosphate.
Furthermore, the conditions in tube 1 and 2 allow the reaction to proceed to form ribulose 5
phosphate and the mount of product formed can be measured. With tube 1 and 2 being identical,
averaging the absorbance allowed minimizing the error due to differences in enzyme
concentration and contaminants within experimental procedure. Tube 3 is used to boil the
enzyme extract to investigate the relationship of temperature on the rate of pentose 5 phosphate
isomerase activity. Tube 4 and 5 act as controls for the absorbance and the effect of substrate and
enzyme on the absorbance reading are investigate respectively. Tube 6 acts as a comparison for
the known amount of product whereby the absorbance of other tubes can be compared to tube 6

Secondly, the sum of tube 4 (no enzyme) and tube 5 (no ribose 5 phosphate) were used to
adjusted the absorbance of tube 1 and 2 after using tube 7. As tube 4 only takes ribose 5

these two values from the absorbance of one the full tubes (tube 1 or 2) it allows to account for
the absorbance caused by ribose 5 phosphate and the enzyme extract. And the adjusted absorbance

The Effects of Advertising
The Effects of Advertising
Advertising is considered a paid communication through a non personal medium in which the
sponsor is identified and the message is controlled. Variations include publicity, public relations,
product placement, sponsorship, time shifted advertising, underwriting, and sales promotion.
Every major medium is used to deliver these messages such as the television, radio, movies,
magazines, newspapers, the internet, and billboards. Advertisements can also be seen on the seats
of grocery carts, on the walls of an airport walkway, and the sides of buses, or heard in telephone
hold messages or in store PA systems В– nearly anywhere a visual or audible communication can
be placed. (Wikipedia, 2006) Advertisingcan be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is absolutely no way to avoid it. For instance, a 1987 survey conducted by the city of St.
Louis found twice as many billboards in black neighborhoods as white. Almost 60% of the
billboards in the black neighborhoods advertised cigarettes and alcoholic beverages. In another
study of seventy three billboards along nineteen blocks in a black neighborhood in Philadelphia,
sixty advertised cigarettes or alcohol. In a 1989 survey by the Abel Foundation, 70% of the 2,015
billboards documented in the city of Baltimore advertised alcohol or tobacco products. Three
fourths of the billboards were in predominately poor African American neighborhoods. In fact, the
Center for Disease Control estimates that billboards advertising tobacco products are placed in
African American communities four to five times more often than in white communities.
Furthermore, the advertisements are usually for menthol cigarettes, which are more popular with
African Americans and which have additional significant medical effects. (Randall, 2005)
According to an article found in a Washington DC newspaper, minorities, particularly blacks, have
been disproportionately targeted by the tobacco industry giants. The internal company records of
R.J. Tobacco Company and Brown Williamson Tobacco Corporation show how they ran
advertising campaigns in magazines, on billboards, buses and other media to attract blacks to
mentholated brands such as Salem and Kool. Also, a 1978 corporate memo profiles the

Jimmy Porter s Role In Look Back In Anger, By John Osborne
JIMMY S PERSONALITY
The novel Look Back in Anger was written by John Osborne, who was one of the playwrights in
the Angry Young Men movement. John Osborne, born in 1929 in a middle class family, lived in a
place he dubbed a cultural wasteland , had an execrable relationship with women and was one of
those scholarship boys in white tile universities. The Angry Young Menwas a literary movement of
the 1950 s whose fundamental purpose was to express their emotions mainly anger and protest
against social stratification in a very repressed and conservative Britain. The character of Jimmy
Porter is an excellent example of an Angry Young Man and very similar to the author.

However, this warrior longed for a rightful cause in a stagnant society. This intensity of living,

unhealthy fixation on the inherent malevolence of women, who, from his point of view, were the

so intense that in every situation, even when it had nothing to do with him, he was the wronged

Successful CEOs Deserve their Huge Salaries Essay
Successful CEOs Deserve their Huge Salaries
Are America s CEOs paid more than they deserve? Many people s answer is a vehement: Yes.
That view is reinforced anew every spring, when companies file their financial statements and we
learn how much CEOs were paid last year.
In 2003 the average pay for CEOs at 200 of the largest U.S. companies was $11.3 million but
there are a good number whose compensation packages approach the $100 million mark. Faced
with these figures, Americans from all walks of life who revile CEOs as greedy fat cats are
overcome with bewilderment and indignation. Astonished to learn that what an average worker

What long term business model will attract venture capital? Should the company accept short term
partial sponsorship from a large drug manufacturer in exchange for a modest royalty on the drug
in the future or risk going it alone and possibly running out of funds? It is on such decisions that a
company s success is made and lives of cancer patients may depend.
In order to be successful in the long range, the CEO s strategy must encompass countless factors.
He must devise a plan to grow the business in the face of competitors, not only from within the
United States but from any and every region of today s global economy. The CEO calls the plays
for a team of tens (and sometimes hundreds) of thousands of workers. All of the actions of every

that integration.
To successfully steer a corporation across the span of years by integrating its strengths toward
the goal of creating wealth, requires from the CEO exceptional thought and judgment. Excellent

This means the data was non significant. The third chi square analysis I ran is to determine if
there is a relationship between having friends who exercise and the college students feeling

significance between the two data points. I ran a regression analysis to see if gender, being on a
sports team, or the amount of time you exercise per week influences GPA. The P Value for
gender is 0.072, while the P Value for being on a sports team is 0.020. With a level of
significance of 0.05 these two data points were significant. The amount of times exercised per
week P Value is 0.64, while I am looking for a level of significance of 0.05. This led the results to
be non significant for times exercised per week and GPA. In the introduction, I stated that I

The Film Analysis Of The Movie The Patriot
The Patriot
The Patriot is known as this action packed, adventurous movie, and most americans have
watched this movie despite the fact of its inaccuracies, also depicting america as great and the
british as bad. This movie takes place in 1776, this was before the declaration of independence
was signed and a idea was proposed about breaking away from the king and initiating a new nation
was great but arguable. Not all the americans wanted to be independent from Great Britain, there
was separation between the rebels and the colonials ,the rebels that wanted have to freedom and the
Colonials that wanted to stay faithful to the king, america was nowhere near to united. The boston
incident turned into a civil war. Later on, loyalists saw the british military as a authorized army,
therefore loyalists joining the army because they were nationalistic like the rebels. However, in the
movie they point out one loyalist because in the movie The Patriot they depict the americans in a
positive light because if they stuck to true history they couldn t do that and would make the
americans look bad.
The filmmakers modified the history to put them in positive light for example they created this
American hero named Benjamin Martin they depict him to be this heroic, flawless hero but in fact
he is not even a person in history he is a made up fictional character based on francis marion and
made up of other historical figures. Furthermore, they showed america united when in fact they were

The Lamb and The Tyger by William Blake Essay
William Blake, a unique poet of the literary canon, is one of the most critiqued poets of all time.
Having a rather unique stylistic approach to topics, especially religion, Blake seems to contradict
himself in his own writing and, therefore, sparks questions in the readers minds on specific
subjects. Two of his poems in particular have been widely critiqued and viewed in various lights.
The Tyger, written in 1774, and The Lamb, written five years later in 1789, are considered
companion poems due to their similar humanistic topic and stark differences of each other. Through
the use of specific titillation and use of rhetorical questioning, Blake sets up an ultimatum between
the two poems, creating the illusion that each creature in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tyger, however, is part of the Songs of Experience collection, which revolves more around a
ruthless, ferocious (Northrop 380) world of experience that an adult would live in (Northrop
380). Whereas the Songs of Innocence are relatively light and optimistic poems (Milton), the
Songs of Experience are much darker in tone and exposing the world as seen in the Songs of
Innocence. Postulated to be unique in the fact that these two collections were the most intricate
of all of his works, Blake s artistic vision is clearly shown in The Songs of Innocence and of
Experience (Curran 256). Being from this volume of Blake s most complex works, The Lamb
and The Tyger are commonly thought of as companion poems because of the similarity and
opposition found in the two. Each of these poems, read in light of each other, seem to revolve
around the topic of religion, as many others found in this particular novel do. Leading to one of
the central themes of the piece, it could be considered that Blake s overlaying message in the
pieces were about religion. However, despite him being a Christian, albeit unconventional in his
practice (Evans), the overlaying theme of most, if not all poems in the volume revolve around
some aspect of humanity s spectrum. Thus, despite the use of theological logic in part of each
poem, the idea of religion is explored with a more rationalistic

Trading Salvation For Personal Gratification In Anna Karenina
Trading Salvation for Personal Gratification in Anna Karenina
The epigraph of Anna Karenina: Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord, implies that
judgment is a theological entitlement (Romans, 12:19). Tolstoy uses both social and moral issues to
illustrate his characters attitudes towards religion. For Oblonsky, Vronsky, and Karenin, religious
values are secondary. Their lives are devoted to establishing a social positionand monetary gain.
Levin finds salvation and happiness because they learn to live for something beyond themselves
and devote their lives to spreading the goodness of the Lord. Like Levin, Anna responds to her

When he witnesses a man s death at the train station, he charitably gives the widow some money,
but only to win favor in Anna s eyes. Vronsky is not emotionally strong enough to handle the depth
of his relationship with Anna. When she is shunned by society and depends solely on his love, he
turns away from her to distractions involving his career. On her deathbed, Anna tells Vronsky that
Karenin is a saint, and he proves this true by forgiving both the lovers. Karenin s noble actions
make Vronsky feel lower then ever. He cannot contend with this loss of honor because his life
centers on social values distinguished only by their superficiality. He tries to commit suicide after
Anna s near death that has highlighted his true feelings. Vronsky feels that his life is meaningless
after this incident compromises his honor.
Karenin is spiritually awakened by his forgiveness of Anna and Vronsky, but religion remains on
the surface of his soul. He throws himself zealously into Countess Lydia s religiosity and
mysticism only to save him from the humiliation that results from his failed marriage. In reaction
to Anna s affair, Karenin decides against dueling Vronsky and a divorce: I do not consider myself
justified in breaking the bonds by which a higher power has united us (302). Karenin defends his
decision with Christian ideas, but he is predominantly pleased that his religion coincided nicely
with his desire to maintain appearances.

Internal Conflict Of William Shakespeare s Macbeth
Internal conflict is represented throughout Macbeth following his descent from hero to decapitated
tyrant. In Act I.vii Macbeth is debating with himself whether to kill the king or not which reveals
internal conflict between his virtue and his hamartia, ambition. He says, that we but teach bloody
instructions, which being taught, return to plague the inventor , this shows Macbethfocusing on the
practicalities of killing Duncan rather than the ethics or moralityof it, he is more worried of the
possibility it could lead to his own murder, this portrays a moment of clarity that foreshadows his
own fate. The phrase teach bloody instructions is vocabulary of war and revenge which gives a
hint of a soldier s mindset. He later goes to say i am his kinsman and his subject, strong both
against the deed; then, as his host, who should against his murderer shut the door, not bear the
knife myself. , structurally he has now moved on to the ethics and morality of the murder, he
knows it s wrong showing he still has a moral compass however the morality was a later thought
showing that his morals have been mixed up and shows a hint of a psychotic mind. He then leaves
us with the line I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o
erleaps itself and falls on the other , this conveys self awareness, he knows his major flaw is his
ambition, the word vaulting suggests his ambition is so strong that it jumps out of him and drives

Feminine Mystique Analysis
In Friedan s The Feminine Mystique , she addresses the unspoken problem of women, especially
housewives, in the 1950 s and 60 s. Women were taught to be a mother and wife and to embrace
their femininity. They were also taught to reject academia and pity the neurotic, unfeminine,
unhappy women who wanted to be poets, physicists, or presidents. These women were consuming
what was given to them in pop culture. They dyed their hair blonde and ate chalk to lose weight.
The dream for women during this time was to be the perfect suburban housewife, which included a
good marriage, four children, and nice house in the suburbs.
Friedan states that if a woman had a problem, she knew something was wrong with either herself
or her marriage. Since no one else discussed their dissatisfaction with their wifely duties, the
women who felt this believed they were the only one in this situation and something must be
wrong with them. Friedan calls this the problem that has no name because there was a mass
number of women feeling this way, but no one could put a name to this condition. Women who had
this problem described it as feeling empty and incomplete, as if they didn t exist. Although many
women were feeling this way, the media still portrayed women as happy housewives, further
reinforcing that no other women were feeling that way. Friedan goes on to say that we can no
longer ignore this issue and lists the reasons people had to explain this phenomenon, such as the
loss of femininity, too much education, or the demands of domesticity. She refutes these points, and
at the end, Friedan says there is more behind the problem that has no name and, again, we can no
longer ignore it.
In the Barbara Smith reading, she starts out by talking about figuring out a name for her book
Home Girls , and how many black people who are threatened by feminism argue that you have left
the race and are no longer a part of the black community if you are a feminist. Smith states that
black feminism is a natural part of the black experience despite the separation it appears to have
from the black community. Black women, Smith says, have been reluctant to identify with the
liberation struggle due to a number of reasons, including the

Teaching Styles, And Parental Motivation Essay
Summary:
First time college students tend to fail and do poorly due to possible low standards of academic
preparations performed by high school teachers and poor motivation by parents. Could this be
caused by how each teacher is structured to teach, and how busy parents are to become involved?
Well, the result of my research provides proof that the basis of offering a visual structure along
with hands on activities for students to perform will increase their chances of doing well in college.
At the same time, my studies also show that parental involvement significantly improves students
overall academic progress.
Introduction:
This report is based off on research provided by scholarly individuals in the field of teaching and
state standards as well. Some of the main ideas I impose tend to deal more with how teachers
behave, how teachers engage students in academic school work, and how parent involvement should
be significantly improved. Some of these ideas involve teacher preparedness, teaching styles, and
parental motivation. The research constructed was well thought out and planned through a series of
professional peer editors and not only supplies information but includes visual aids throughout the
project to help visualize the topic at hand.
Criteria:
I have included a list of some of the main concepts that will be addressed in this report as it
regards to some of the factors that may come into play when seeking a valid solution.

What Does The Bible Say About Pride Analysis
Post 2 Replies Difficult Concept (1 7)
2. Pride
What does the Bible say about pride?
Answer: There is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the
kind of pride we feel about a job well done. The kind of pride that stems from self righteousness is
sin, and God hates it because it is a hindrance to seeking Him. Psalm 10:4 explains that the proud
are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: In his pride the wicked does
not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. This kind of haughty pride is the
opposite of the spirit of humility that God seeks: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3). The poor in spirit are those who

From a political perspective, the increasing organic foods regulations have been posing as a threat.
Regulations are becoming stricter and require an intensive amount of standards to meet. These
regulations ensure that companies are meeting the government implemented bilingual and
nutritional label requirements. However, uncertainty about these labels have arisen, resulting in
uncertainty amongst consumers. FCPP requirements have ensured that companies do not commit
fraud or misuse the organic label. Consumers rely on the legitimacy of certifications to ensure the

Containerisation
What is containerization and how did the innovative use of containers transform the distribution of
goods? Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a unitised form suitable for
transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch, 1996, p.194). The simple principle of the
container has undoubtedly made the global economy grow, and brought the world closer together
through ease of transportation (Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). To be able to use one single sized
unit for the transportation of goods was the ultimate solution to transporting cargo, which was
becoming larger part of global trade, and helped put shipping into the modern age. In 1956,
Malcolm McLean used an innovative idea to transport 58 trailer... Show more content on

This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and improves
stock control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the distribution of goods in
allowing a greater selection of cargo to travel further than it was previously capable of. So what
about the costs? The container made shipping cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s
idea, it was thought that the costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States
exports, and could be as high as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to
product price have fallen sharply. (Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers and ships that
is responsible for the transportation costs, the larger normal routes, the increasing competition
between the major container ship operators, such as Maesrk and Evergreen, the investment in
modernising crane handling equipment and the logistics, have all had an impact. Before
containerisation, businesses thought of distribution as a series of processes, ships, trucks and
trains. Somebody had to move every box and pallet, and could easily consume half the cost of
shipping. Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . With goods waiting in warehouses
ready to be moved onto the next stage, transferring and delays made shipments slow and the
delivery times erratic. The introduction of containers meant that for the first time, cargo could be
locked away when in storage. Whiskey was

Election Explanation Through Sociological Theories
Election Explanation through Sociological Theories The 2016 U.S Presidential Election ended
on November 19th, yet many people did not expect or even think about the result of Trump
becoming our 45th president. Although many people in California did not accept the fact that
our first female candidate was defeated and lost the election, it is reasonable to explain some
surprising observations and results of the election by looking through the lens of sociological
theories. 1. 63% of white men and 53% of white women did not vote for Clinton. As our first
female presidential candidate, it was controversial towards her ability be competent to manage a
country. Although many people are pursuing gender equality in America, they still hold prejudices
and discrimination towards women because of their vulnerable image. It is not surprising that
more than half of white men choose to vote for Trump instead of Clinton by Christine Williams s
concept of Glass ceiling glass escalator. Williams argued that women in the United States face the
predicament of Glass Ceiling, invisible barriers that restrains their promotion in male dominated
jobs. On contrary, men are considered to be Glass Escalators in which they are push up in their
professions by invisible pressures. (Williams ) Under this situation, an occupational segregation
exists: women and men hold the same job title at an individual establishment or company, but
actually do different jobs. People generally

Comparing The Passionate Shepherd To His Love And The...
In my perspective, I m going to be concentrating on the two poems The Passionate Shepherd to
His Love and The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd differences and similarities on a few things:
Love, Nature, Time, and the Material World. What I ve seen is that the two poems are complete
polar opposites and offset each other. The Shepherd is a perfect dream where nothing ends or love
dies. The Nymph is striking back at him with reality and with doubt about what the Shepherd is
telling her. My first comparison is between the similarities and differences about how the Nymph
and the Shepherd compare when it comes to love. The Shepherd sees love as idealistic and says
that it can only be effectively contributed to a person through nature. My quoted

Flowers For Algernon: 700 word Essay
In the novel Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, Charlie, a mentally disabled adult, has brain

brain.Rather than think about/believe Charlie s quality of life, the scientists think about/believe

Before Charlie performs the operation he enjoyed the mockery of his friends. For Example; when

another reason why this is not a quality of life. Another reason is that the scientists only tested the

Eclectic Spirituality
Eclectic spirituality is difficult to define, in fact we have to define each word individually. The
definition of eclectic is, selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or styles
(Merriam Webster, 2015). The definition of spirituality is, the quality or state of being concerned
with religionor religious matters: the quality or state of being spiritual (Merriam Webster, 2015).
When we learn about eclectic spirituality, and that most people are no longer grounded in one
particular religion, however they still claim to be spiritual, the phrase, Spiritual but not religious
(Sacramento Bee McEntyre, M, 2015) makes sense.
While this is the first time, I personally have ever heard of the term eclectic spirituality (apparently,
I live a sheltered life), however its origins are said to have begun during the nineteenth century
during the romanticism movement. The romanticism movement, questioned the doctrine and
religious beliefs from the enlightenment period, as they chose to exalt their dreams, feelings, and
mystical experiences.
I believe that the ever changing worldview makes it easier for people to embrace this eclectic
spirituality. Our worldview continues to change as society adapts to such things, as changes in

The Machine Time Span
However, in each case, it is assumed that the machine time is known as soon as it occurs. This
machine has a direct consequence on the number of operation that is fixed and indirectly reflects
on the total number of operation present in the potential re scheduling. Instances of the job shop
problem (10x10, 8x15, 5x10, 10x 15, 5x15, 5x20, 6x24, 10x20,) are considered. Two machines can
influence the decision variables. Several cases with different values of this parameter are studied.
The different simulations tested in this research consider various times of these three machines.
From the above two method the obtained sequence times are less than the observation time span.

Government Control In The Hunger Games, The Giver, By...
I have chosen to explore the theme of Government control. This theme is evident in the novels The
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Giver by Lois lowry and in
the film Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg.
In the novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, Government control is emphasized through
the Capitol being prosperous financially which enables them to have control over the poor
districts. An example that shows this is Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and
there is nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you... This shows
that the Capitol will emphasize that they are better than the districts using The Hunger Games and

An example that shows this is the mid shot of Anderton s flight scene where Anderton escapes in
his vehicle, but the control of it is taken over by Precrime in order to take the protagonist to police

command over vehicles is lost. Not only does the government have control of the vehicles and mass
surveillance, but it also knows practically any given moment where each person is. As a result, the
government has the power to control the citizens using extreme surveillance and take away any
freedom or privacy that they have. With this in mind, Steven Spielberg wants us to understand what
the future can lead to if power is taken advantage of which results into extreme control. As the
citizens give up some of their freedom so that the government can protect them but as the
government gains more control it would undoubtedly abuse its

The Cunningic Character Traits Of Odysseus
I think the one heroic character trait that fits Odysseus best is cunning . There are many stories
from The Wanderings that shows just how cunning Odysseus is; from tricking monsters like the
cyclops, to pretending to be a beggar so he could reclaim his kingdom. Some of these stories may
not sound like much but without Odysseus s cunning trait things would have ended up completely
different. If Odysseus didn t have his cunning trait he wouldn t have been able to trick the suitors
into thinking he was a beggar, but because Odysseus is such a cunning hero he is able to have
much more power than others. One great example to show just how cunning Odysseus is, is the
story about the cyclops, who had planned to eat Odysseus and his shipmates. One of the ideas that
Odysseus had to get rid of the cyclops was to have him drink so much wine that he wouldn t be
able to focus and so he could be knocked out. Tricking the cyclops gave Odysseus and his
shipmates another chance to get away from the cyclops. A piece of evidence from the cyclops
story that shows Odysseus s cunning trait is a quote from the story, it says My moment was at
hand, and I went forward holding an ivy bowl of my dark drink, this quote shows Odysseus s idea
of giving the cyclops the wine so he would be knocked out and so Odysseus could have a better
chance at killing him and getting away. Another very interesting story that showed Odysseus s
cunning trait is the story of The Cattle of the SunGod. Odysseus

Kant On Lying
Immanuel Kant, a philosopher who has strong opinions against lying has puzzled many critical
thinkers in philosophy. Kant creates a troubling situation on where a murderer is at the door asking
whether or not the victim, he or she is looking for is hiding and whether are not one should lie or
tell the truthabout the victim s current hiding spot. An individual has a sense of inclination to do
what is right, however Kant is acknowledging that if one does testify where the victim is then one
is surely respecting the murderers intentions. Furthermore, the murderer s devious actions are now
placed upon the witness. In addition to this example, a Nazi is at the door wanting to know if one
has seen or is captivating any Jewish individuals. According... Show more content on

Meaning that a maxim is a principle of how one acts and how others should act too. According to
Kant, one should not be an exception to lie. In an event that one allegedly lies, and the victim was
coming out of their hiding spot, and the murderer encounters him while going away and perpetrates
his deed on him, then you can by right be prosecuted as the author of his death (8, 427). Still, one
cannot possibly have for seen those events. Under these circumstances, Kant insists the liar is still
partially responsible for the victim s downfall. This notion that is clearly irrational demonstrates
how little Kant has to argue about this topic.
Even if the truth was told and the deed finished, then responsibility was shared. However, Kant
does go and claims if one told the truth to the best of his knowledge, then neighbors might have
come and apprehended the murder while he was searching the house for his enemy and the deed
would have been prevented (8, 427). Although I agree with Kant up to a point, I cannot accept his
overriding assumption that lying to save a life is considered guilty by the civil

Black Friday History
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, where it is the beginning of the
traditional Christmas shopping season. Since Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in
November in the United States, Black Friday may be as early as the 23rd and as late as the
29th of November. More recently, there is new understanding that the term originates from the
theory that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss for most of the year (January through
November) and made their profit during the holiday season. When this would be recorded in the
financial records, accounting practices would use red ink to show negative amounts and black ink
to show positive amounts. Black Friday, under this theory, is the ... Show more content on

William Shakespeare s Othello, Much Ado About Nothing,...
Power is said to be the ability of another to be able to control or influence others in a given
situation. Power is also a reoccurring theme that is without a doubt well displayed in Othello, Much
Ado About Nothing, Porphyria s Lover, Eveline, and My Last Duchess. In drama Othello, by
Shakespeare, the title character suspects his wife Desdemona has been unfaithful with no proof and
just the assumption of a friend. He publicly confronts Desdemona by hitting her and calling her a
whore. Othellois in possession of power here because he publicly shows what he is capable of; he
is not afraid to hit a woman. In short story Eveline, by James Joyce, Eveline and her younger

In the play Much Ado About Nothing, by Shakespeare, Claudio has false knowledge when it
comes to his fiance, Hero, being unfaithful, and proceeds to publicly confront her in front of their
friends and family. In a later scene, Hero s cousin Beatrice suggests to Claudio s friend Benedick
that he should kill Claudio because of his false accusations toward Hero. Beatrice has power
because she is able to take advantage of Benedick s feeling for her and convince him to kill
Claudio. These texts all include the similarity of abusive power. Irrational decisions and behaviors,
such as murder and sanity, are often times the effect of abusive power.
The drama Othello, by Shakespeare, and the short story Eveline, by James Joyce, both
exemplify similar forms of power. During the course of the theatrical piece Othello, the
protagonist is led on by Iago to believe his wife to be unfaithful. Whether Desdemona truly was
dishonest is left ambiguous by the end. DESDEMONA: Why, sweet Othello OTHELLO:
(striking her) Devil! DESDEMONA: I have not deserved this... OTHELLO: Oh, devil, devil! If
that the earth could teem with woman s tears, Each drop she falls would prove a crocodile. Out of
my sight! (Shakespeare). Othello confronts Desdemona about his apparent knowledge of her being
unfaithful; publicly striking her and calling her a whore, even though he has no solid proof.
Othello has power because publicly striking her exposes his seeming knowledge of her being

What Does A Sport And Whether Or Not Cheerleading Should...
When someone tells you to think of a sport I m sure the first thing that comes to mind is football, or
basketball, or maybe baseball. But what about cheerleading? When you think of cheerleading do
you just think of it as an activity that consists of chants on the sidelines with big pom poms, or do
you think of it as a sport with extreme stunting such as tumbling, mounting, and tossing? The
question of whether or not cheerleadingis or should be recognized as an official sport has been
debated since 1997 and still makes its way to court every few years. Throughout this research
paper I will explore the question of what defines a sport and whether or not cheerleading should be
considered one.
Currently there are three different types of cheerleading you can participate in. The first form of
cheerleading is Sideline Cheerleading (High School/ College Cheer). Sideline cheerleading s
primary purpose is to serve as support group for athletic programs in the school, as well as
entertaining the crowd through cheers, stunts, and dance. Competitive Cheerleading (All star
/ College Cheer) is the second form of cheerleading and can be a mix of school squads and all star
gym squads. For competitive cheerleading you compete against other squads or gyms with a two
minute and thirty second routine. In these routines, the cheerleaders perform extreme tricks and
higher level stunting and tumbling than sideline cheer in hopes of getting the highest scores
possible. The last form of

  • 2. Ecosystem In The Daintree Rainforest Persuasive Essay The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. Saint Augustine. I am proposing to travel to Queensland, Australia this Summer along with a chaperone. I should go because I would experience and learn about the complex ecosystem in the Daintree Rainforest. I should also go because I would learn many new skills, such as scuba diving, surfing, and snorkeling. The last reason I should go is I would learn about Australias culture and history. I should go because I would experience the complex tropical rainforest ecosystem of the Daintree. The Daintree has a large biodiversity of both plants and animals. Many plants and animals found there cannot be found anywhere else. For example, the Daintree has a plant called the Idiot Fruit. It has seeds as large as a human fist, as well as many other characteristics specific to that plant. This plant is unique to about 230 hectares of the Daintree Rainforest. Many other unique plants and animals can be found in the Daintree, which provides me with many learning experiences I cannot get anywhere else.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Indiana is landlocked, I have little to no opportunity to surf, scuba dive, or snorkel. This trip would give me the opportunity to scuba dive, surf, and snorkel, as well as exposure to such skills. Scuba diving would allow me to explore the underwater ecosystem in the coastal water of Queensland, and I will learn much from this experience. Snorkeling would also allow me to have a somewhat similar experience as scuba diving would. There are many other new skills I would learn in addition to these three, which would broaden my ... Its population is 9.27 million in 2016, with the GDP of 3.847 billion USD, these statistics shows this United Arab Emirateshave an important country in middle east. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country on the Arabian Peninsula located on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf and the northwestern coast of the Gulf of Oman. So this sounds very interesting topic to research on it where too many languages, people, religions exist at the same time. The United Arab Emirates is home to a rich cultural heritage that has been strongly influenced by its unique environment. The region s varied terrain, desert, oasis, mountains and coast, dictated the traditional lifestyles that evolved over the centuries. A resilience and resourcefulness necessary to survive in these harsh conditions was fostered by society s age old tribal structure: each family was traditionally bound by obligations of mutual assistance to his immediate relatives and to the tribe as a whole. Among the tribe an individual s selfless hospitality was the source of his honor and pride. A common religion, Islam, also provided the cement that held society together. The largest tribal group, the Bani Yas, roamed the vast sandy areas that cover almost all of the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Other tribes, too, such as the Awamir and Manasir, shared this challenging environment for numerous generations. All the subtribes and clans were accustomed to wander great distances with their camels in search of grazing, moving as entire family units. Almost all Bani Yas families, with the exception of the fishing groups like the Al Rumaitha, returned to a home in one of the oasis settlements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Archetypes In The Odyssey And O Brother Where Art Thou Among the plethora of archetypes that present themselves in Homer s The Odyssey and the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? is the character of the Blind Prophet. This character is an older man who has the gift of foresight, yet lacks the gift of physical sight. In the ancient epic poem, the hero Odysseus travels to the Underworld during his time on Circe s isle to consult the blind seer Tiresias. In the film, Ulysses Everett and his hunting group of companions encounter a nameless blind soothsayer upon the railroad tracks after they first escape incarceration.Tiresias warns Odysseusof the trials ahead on his journey, including the Sirens and the monstrous Scylla, giving advice on how to best surpass them. The film s blind seer describes a long... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This woman of surpassing beauty provides an emotional test for the hero along his journey. This role is filled by Calypso in the epic, a gorgeous nymph whose love for Odysseus makes him her captive for seven years. Ulysses s trek to his homeland is significantly altered by the appearance of the Sirens down at the river, three women who try to capture the men for the bounty through physical attraction. The Sirens of Homer s work are a challenge along the hero s travels, but they do not play such a profound role like Calypso. The nymph s love for Odysseus was true, her heart fixated on the hero that landed upon her isle. The Sirens of Ulysses s tale used sexual temptation to drag the men in, their intentions driven by greed. Both Odysseus and Ulysses face these women as their sensuous powers delay them from reaching their treasured goal: home. The presence of these characters helps establish the protagonists humanity, demonstrating how love and temptation also linger within the hearts of heroes. The contrast between the motivation of Calypso and the film s Sirens shows two distinct characters: the temptress moved by love and the temptress moved by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Are Colleges Worth The Cost Of College Attending college after high school is a choice everybody has to make. However, colleges can be very expensive to attend. The decision to go to college hangs mostly on one question: Is college worth the cost? Many people evaluate the cost of college by equating it to things such as family tradition and whether or not they need it for their career. To some people, collegeis a stumbling block, but to others, it is the key to their future. To begin, college has many benefits, despite the cost. • 7. Summary Of The Impossibly Great Commission Better you than me. The words have stuck to the front of my mind for weeks. After preaching a message at a friend s church in my hometown, these were the only words one particular stranger said to me. That is, these are the only words he said to me before giving me a pat on the back and handing me a crumbled up ball of cash (both of these gestures were received completely unsolicited). The sermon I delivered that morning was titled The Impossibly Great Commission . Looking back now, I could have probably worded that better, but the message was clear, we are purpose for a reason and we cannot achieve that purpose in our own strength. More simply put, We need Jesus. Now fast forward one or two months to the present when I set foot for the first time on foreign soil. Here multiple strangers with hugs and celebration greeted me. Their first words to me? My home is your home, follow me. I am now serving as a missionary to Central America. The people here are rich with love and humility. Every person I have met has been exceedingly kind to me. Some children run to me to tell me their favorite Bible verses in English, the teens invite me to play sports with them, and everyone insists on having me over for a delicious meal. Christ gave us the commission to go and make disciples of all nations, so for now this is where He has me. Hopefully the short account I gave of the people here in this culture made clear that I am very thankful for the opportunity to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Consequences Of The English Industrial Revolution An Industrial Revolution is when a society goes from using tools or making products by hand, to using new sources of energy, such as coal, to power machines in factories. The consequences of the English Industrial Revolution greatly outweighed the benefits. Factories were dangerous and detrimental to the environment, workers were treated inhumanely, and living conditions were unbearable due to urbanization. Factories were unsafe for workers and led to high levels of pollution. They were filled with dust which led to health problems in workers, and the coolest part of the ironworks was 130 degrees fahrenheit (web.bcp.org). Workers were cut, bruised, and killed because of uncovered machine shafts. In Joseph Hebergram s testimony to the Sadler Committee, he shares a memory from his time as a child worker: Hebergam: At the L____ Mill where I worked last, a boy was caught in a machine and had both his thigh bones broke and from his knee to his hip the flesh was ripped up the same as it had been cut by a knife. His hand was bruised, his eyes were nearly torn out and his arms were broken. His sister, who ran to pull him off, had both her arms broke and her head bruised. The boy died. I do not know if the girl is dead, but she was not expected to live (Document 2). The vast amount of coal that was burned to produce energy for the factories greatly increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the air, and the smoke from the coal turned entire cities and rivers black. • 9. Chemical Bonds The article Toward roads that de ice themselves can be linked with our Chemical Bonds project. This article talks about a chemical compound that would be more efficient in de icing roads than salt. As stated in the article salt alone wears away fast, and it has to be reapplied almost every day. The solution was a mixture of salt potassium and bitumen. This mixture was just as sturdy as before and it de iced better than salt. The pros to this were that of it were embedded then it would last for years, it s a better deicer than salt alone, and it was more effective. The cons were how expensive it would be to embed this compound into the streets. This connects with our Chemical Bonds project because it deals with making qualitative observations, chemical compounds, and chemical bonds. This article... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first compound they started off with was NaCl which is table salt. They noticed that table salt alone wasn t doing a great job so they tried CHKO2, which is the formula for potassium formate. Potassium formate is an ionic compound which is a chemical compound in which ions are held together by electrostatic forces termed ionic bonding. After they created this compound they liked the results so they didn t need another compound. As you can see they used chemical compounds by taking single elements and putting them together to make a new substance to de ice the roads. This article used chemical bonds because in addition to the last paragraph to have compounds to need to have chemical bonds. A chemical bond is an attraction between atoms that allows the formation of a chemical. In the article they bonded together different elements to make compounds, which they in turn helped de ice the streets. The chemical bond helped make a salt polymer composite which would help the CHKO2 compound to stay in the road for years. Chemical bonds help the atoms stay together and keep compounds ... • 10. Differences Between Gaap And Ifrs Introduction There are two distinct methods of accounting for finances in the business world. These two methods are the methods both prescribed by the U.S., which is known as the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and that which is used by the international community known as international financial reporting standards (IFRS). GAAP is regulated by the financial accounting standards board (FASB) while IFRS is regulated by the international accounting standards board (IASB). These two methods are currently under a process which is known as convergence or harmonization so that the United States will eventually become integrated into the global community (Miller, S. E. 2009). This will cause financial statements to be more usable for more people across the globe as well as enhance citizens of the U.S. s ability to perform business more efficiently internationally. Principles Versus Rules Based Methods There are many challenges and hurdles to overcome in order to achieve harmonization between GAAP and IFRS. The differences are widespread. Most importantly and fundamentally GAAP is considered to be more rules based, while principalities are largely what guide the users of IFRS. GAAP Regulations are more detailed, specific and voluminous. Conversely, IFRS regulations are less voluminous and make allowance for more exceptions. As an example IFRS allows the reversal of a write down after the fact while GAAP that when a write down is taken then it is irreversible. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Influence Of Pornography Simon Lajeunusse, a Canadian scholar who was wishing to research the impact pornography has on young men, was unsuccessful due to being unable to find a control group of males who have not already viewed pornography (Weiss par. 1). Although the typical pornographic videos streamed via the Internet are what most people today believe to be the defining form of pornography, it is also displayed in many other mediums and has been for thousands of years. Most people see the word pornography and immediately assume the worst, but they do not know the true definition or the history of the 11 lettered word. From its early forms of paintings on ancient Roman walls, and risquГ© novels during the Renaissance, to the creation of photography in the 1800s, and the booming of videos on the Internet in the 1990s, pornography has been through it all. Pornography is one of the most controversial topics of all time, and because of its vast meanings and forms, there are several differing views. The saying, Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, is very relevant when it comes to the topic of pornography. One person s view of pornography could be another s view of beautiful art; This is when the controversy takes place. Some people believe pornography is harmful to women because of the degrading and violent acts toward them in most pornographic material; Others agree but believe there are other forms of pornography, erotic material, which could benefit a viewer and a relationship. • 13. Biff Loman In 1949, Arthur Miller wrote a play called The Death Of a Salesman . This play is known for its compelling view on the mind of the middle class working man. The characters in The Death of a Salesman all have various dimensions of development throughout the story. These characters can all be seen as components one collective mind using Sigmund Freuds psychoanalytic theory; the Oedipal, Id, Ego, and Superego. These characters all strive for success by way of the American Dream and all of it s inconsistent factors and betrayal that personify it so well. Though it is obvious why understanding organizations is critical to business success, nevertheless it is worthwhile to review these reasons. The structure of a firm either enhances or hinders efficiency and productivity. In other words, how information flows and to whom, whether and how many parts of the work process is redundant, how clear and precise is the reporting structure, if and how new ideas and products are promoted these and many more issues are obvious consequences of structure and profoundly affect the success of the business. Thus, they have to be very team centered (to analyze the information and to translate it into new products and services), and they have to have a great deal of leeway with respect to decision making and authority (to respond promptly to customer needs). A growing and successful construction company prided itself on building expensive homes geared to client needs and adaptable to client wants. However, client requirements were initially not addressed in depth, methods to solicit this information were not developed (e.g., the use of software that would enable clients to imagine being inside the house as it was being built), contact was initiated only when another payment was due, and only the owner could fix the final price of the house. The net result was that the owner, in effect, convinced buyers what they should want, thereby dramatically increasing the number of client initiated changes as the clients along the way became clearer about what they wanted. Information about customer initiated changes was frequently communicated incorrectly or late to the field, even more increasing construction costs due to the need to undo work that had been already completed. This form of therapy has the client focus on the past and understand how it has positively or negatively affected his/her behavior and outlook on life. There are many advantages and disadvantages to taking this historical approach when working with families. Starting with the advantages of psychodynamic therapy, a client is able to re examine past conflicts and work though unresolved issues that could be hindering his/her present day life. Going through life and never really dealing with what is troubling you, can cause stress and anxiety all the way into adulthood. When an individual decides to seek help for the first time, it is beneficial for the counselor to know about the client s past experiences to fully understand why they are the person they are today. A historical approach helps the counselor focus on the root of the problems, and how events along the way have become overpowering struggles that has brought the family into counseling. The Archaic period lasted from 700 to 500 BCE and the sculptures haven t yet mastered in sculpting showing realism. Their style of sculpting was similar to the Egyptians in the way that they made the bodies of the sculptures rigid with both arms on their sides and with a foot stepped forward (Greek Archaic Art). By the end of the Archaic period in ca 500 BCE, the sculpture s features started to look more realistic rather than rigid bodies. The ancient Greeks also had the young, nude male called a kouros and the young, clothed female called a kore. Of course, later on in the Classical period of Greek art, females would become nude subjects as well (Greek Archaic Art). There are some possibilities mentioned by people in why they started to change by showing more musculature and one of those could be that they started to create a new warfare in the Archaic period. They started to build hoplite armies and the battles where hoplites were used were really physical which created more muscle on the army. Being a hoplite meant power and also their ranking in ancient Greek society. The hoplite fighters were idolized and artisans liked it and attributed it into their works. • 32. Feminine Mystique Analysis In Friedan s The Feminine Mystique , she addresses the unspoken problem of women, especially housewives, in the 1950 s and 60 s. Women were taught to be a mother and wife and to embrace their femininity. They were also taught to reject academia and pity the neurotic, unfeminine, unhappy women who wanted to be poets, physicists, or presidents. These women were consuming what was given to them in pop culture. They dyed their hair blonde and ate chalk to lose weight. The dream for women during this time was to be the perfect suburban housewife, which included a good marriage, four children, and nice house in the suburbs. Friedan states that if a woman had a problem, she knew something was wrong with either herself or her marriage. Since no one else discussed their dissatisfaction with their wifely duties, the women who felt this believed they were the only one in this situation and something must be wrong with them. Friedan calls this the problem that has no name because there was a mass number of women feeling this way, but no one could put a name to this condition. Women who had this problem described it as feeling empty and incomplete, as if they didn t exist. Although many women were feeling this way, the media still portrayed women as happy housewives, further reinforcing that no other women were feeling that way. Friedan goes on to say that we can no longer ignore this issue and lists the reasons people had to explain this phenomenon, such as the loss of femininity, too much education, or the demands of domesticity. She refutes these points, and at the end, Friedan says there is more behind the problem that has no name and, again, we can no longer ignore it. In the Barbara Smith reading, she starts out by talking about figuring out a name for her book Home Girls , and how many black people who are threatened by feminism argue that you have left the race and are no longer a part of the black community if you are a feminist. Smith states that black feminism is a natural part of the black experience despite the separation it appears to have from the black community. Black women, Smith says, have been reluctant to identify with the liberation struggle due to a number of reasons, including the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alice Walker s Themes In Everyday Use By Alice Walker Alice Walkers short story, Everyday Use, is a story that focuses on ones heritage, dignity and to figure out the person that one really is. The story is narrated by Mama, who is Dee and Maggies mother. The setting of the story mostly takes in place in the yard of the house between the 1960s and 1970s. Upon reading the story, the reader is given a clear description of what the yard is like. Mama tells us, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. It is not just a yard. In fact, there were a lot of small sinks; you could see where thumbs and fingers had sunk into the wood. Dee wasn t aware of how long this churn had been the family which shows how much she wanted to run away from her heritage. One of the most important symbols used in Everyday Use was the quilts, which to Dee had no significant value before she had gone off to college; however, towards the end of the story Dee requested to have the quilts after leaving them behind when going off to college, saying that she was the only one who could appreciate them. Maggie being as kind hearted and shy as she was said that Dee could have the quilts, Mama refused saying that she had already promised Maggie the quilts. Teaching Styles, And Parental Motivation Essay Summary: First time college students tend to fail and do poorly due to possible low standards of academic preparations performed by high school teachers and poor motivation by parents. Could this be caused by how each teacher is structured to teach, and how busy parents are to become involved? Well, the result of my research provides proof that the basis of offering a visual structure along with hands on activities for students to perform will increase their chances of doing well in college. At the same time, my studies also show that parental involvement significantly improves students overall academic progress. Introduction: This report is based off on research provided by scholarly individuals in the field of teaching and state standards as well. Some of the main ideas I impose tend to deal more with how teachers behave, how teachers engage students in academic school work, and how parent involvement should be significantly improved. Some of these ideas involve teacher preparedness, teaching styles, and parental motivation. The research constructed was well thought out and planned through a series of professional peer editors and not only supplies information but includes visual aids throughout the project to help visualize the topic at hand. Answer: There is a difference between the kind of pride that God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we feel about a job well done. The kind of pride that stems from self righteousness is sin, and God hates it because it is a hindrance to seeking Him. Psalm 10:4 explains that the proud are so consumed with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. This kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the spirit of humility that God seeks: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3). Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a unitised form suitable for transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch, 1996, p.194). The simple principle of the container has undoubtedly made the global economy grow, and brought the world closer together through ease of transportation (Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). To be able to use one single sized unit for the transportation of goods was the ultimate solution to transporting cargo, which was becoming larger part of global trade, and helped put shipping into the modern age. This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and improves stock control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the distribution of goods in allowing a greater selection of cargo to travel further than it was previously capable of. So what about the costs? The container made shipping cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s idea, it was thought that the costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States exports, and could be as high as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to product price have fallen sharply. (Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers and ships that is responsible for the transportation costs, the larger normal routes, the increasing competition between the major container ship operators, such as Maesrk and Evergreen, the investment in modernising crane handling equipment and the logistics, have all had an impact. Before containerisation, businesses thought of distribution as a series of processes, ships, trucks and trains. Somebody had to move every box and pallet, and could easily consume half the cost of shipping. Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . With goods waiting in warehouses ready to be moved onto the next stage, transferring and delays made shipments slow and the delivery times erratic. • 49. The Cunningic Character Traits Of Odysseus I think the one heroic character trait that fits Odysseus best is cunning . There are many stories from The Wanderings that shows just how cunning Odysseus is; from tricking monsters like the cyclops, to pretending to be a beggar so he could reclaim his kingdom. Some of these stories may not sound like much but without Odysseus s cunning trait things would have ended up completely different. If Odysseus didn t have his cunning trait he wouldn t have been able to trick the suitors into thinking he was a beggar, but because Odysseus is such a cunning hero he is able to have much more power than others. One great example to show just how cunning Odysseus is, is the story about the cyclops, who had planned to eat Odysseus and his shipmates. One of the ideas that Odysseus had to get rid of the cyclops was to have him drink so much wine that he wouldn t be able to focus and so he could be knocked out. Tricking the cyclops gave Odysseus and his shipmates another chance to get away from the cyclops. A piece of evidence from the cyclops story that shows Odysseus s cunning trait is a quote from the story, it says My moment was at hand, and I went forward holding an ivy bowl of my dark drink, this quote shows Odysseus s idea of giving the cyclops the wine so he would be knocked out and so Odysseus could have a better chance at killing him and getting away.
