Othello Prejudice And Prejudice
Discrimination At It s Finest
Racism and Sexism are two extremely prominent problems that have been occurring for many
years. Many people are prejudice towards others who are not the same as them. Today we have
come very far in order to limit discrimination, although there are still many places and people that
are sexist and racist. In the three texts I read this term Othello, Snow Falling on Cedars and
Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) there is a direct link to either racism, sexism or
even both. These texts were all set in past times except for Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning
Juliet) which had components of the story that were set in today s time. We are going to explore the
similarities of discrimination between these three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This playwright shows us how people today discriminate against women particularly seen in the
views on Desdemona s character. Academe believes that you re a doomed and helpless victim.
(2.2). Constance tells Desdemona this and instantly Desdemona is enraged by the fact people
think this of her. We are exposed to a side of Desdemona in this play that we may have not
picked up on entirely in Othello. Constance opens our eyes to the fact that Desdemona is a
strong and capable character and not the innocent and helpless character that she is made out to
seem. You are magnificent! Othello should make you his lieutenant. You re capable of greatness,
Desdemona. (2,2). Because Desdemona is never given a real voice in Othello her character is
watered down and her true colours are not shown. Readers are sexist against Desdemona because
she is a woman and in those times women were considered to be much less powerful and
important than men. Constance Ledbelly is also taken advantage of because she is a woman by her

Descriptive Essay About Surf Shop
San Luis Obispo is known for many things, such as the giant rolling hills, Thursday downtown
farmer s markets, and the college that dominates this place, but one major part of the culture here
that is often overlooked is surfing. No matter where one is on campus, they will see people
headed off to the beach with their board in hand, or headed to Poly Escapes to rent one. I have only
been surfinga handful of times in my life, which is why I chose to analyze a surf shop; I have
always been fascinated by the huge obsession with surfing that is present. When meeting people for
the first time here, it is almost inevitable to get asked if one surfs because it is becoming the norm,
which is something that I am not used to, coming from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Speaking to his son and veteran employee, Luke Adler, I was told about Moondoggies history of
being a family run business. He said, I also think it represents like a family owned and operated
company that like even though bigger companies are coming in and taking over San Luis. there
is still local companies around that are family owned and I think it s really cool that we have
been around for like thirty two thirty three years. The store came to be over thirty years ago in
1986, which appeals to it s credibility as it is longstanding and therefore well known as a part of
the community in San Luis Obispo. One very important part of the ethos at the shop is the
interior design. Everything is within it s own section, which creates an organized environment
so one can find exactly what they are looking for. The walls are also lined with surfing
memorabilia and show the high quality brands that the store carries, such as Aleutian Juice and
Lost surfboards. Aleutian Juice boards, by local Dave Parmenter, are quite special, which Luke
explained to me, saying I am actually a huge fan of the aleutian juice just because I grew up
riding those boards. He is a local shaper from around here...Where as some of the bigger board
companies are a lot more machine made, and his are all handmade. So, for that reason I think it is

Difference Between Altruism And Altruism
INTRODUCTION
Our generation today focuses much more on personal gain, prioritizing themselves for pleasure
and self enjoyment. We are in a generation where good name is no more preferred or precious
than gold, rather, money is a good name and more precious than a good one, where love for one
self, vanity, and giving importance on earthly things counts as a way of having success by
pursuing what is best for us and for our loved ones. The Me Generation only shows that people
give so much gratitude and admiration to themselves, and that their concentration is self centered
and egoistic. This kind of attitude leads people to care less about the social, political, economic
and environmental aspects of our lives. Today s generation focuses on acquiring worldly things
by having so much money, power, and fame, whereas the idea of having concern with other
people in the society is starting to disappear. The I syndrome is placing ourselves before others; a
situation whereby people seek their own interests and needs to satisfy themselves, families,
relatives and those close to them first before others. Regardless of the fact that there are people that
are into the I syndrome, there still exists an act of being concerned about other people s happiness
called Altruism . Altruism, in contrast with the I syndrome, is an unselfish concern for other ... Show

This behavior refers to any action that benefits other people, no matter what the motive or how
the giver benefits from the action. By that, we could say that altruistic acts are pro social.
However, pure altruism consists of true selflessness and that, not all pro social acts are fully
altruistic. Perhaps, this is the reason why some people could not set apart altruism from egoism.
Pure and absolute altruism can be found once a person fully recognizes a selfless act from an act
that is self beneficial and

Good and Faithful Servant
In the book of Matthew Jesus distributes talents to three servants. One servant received five
talents, one two, and the other one. Each servant was expected to reap according to what they had
been given; therefore, servant one was to reap five, servant two, two, and servant three, one.
However, at the end of the parable, only servant one and two had fulfilled their task. Servant three
did not. Just as Jesus had given his servants a task, I will be given tasks, much like this assignment,
to complete under the Christian Liberal Arts Curriculum. It is my job to be as servant one and two
were to fulfill my tasks that are given. With that in mind, I shall achieve all of my vocational and
avocational desires by valuing what the Christian Liberal Arts Curriculum has to offer faith,
freedom, and education. One of the key core values of the Christian Liberal Arts Curriculum is
faith. It is incorporated into every aspect of the experience, yet it is not forced upon me. I am

classes as I can is going to make me a more valuable employee because I will be able to complete
both simple and complicated task. My intelligence will help me in my avocational activities as

Through the use of personalizing her poem, Antjie Krog shows her empathy towards the victims,
with hope in mind that all races within South Africa can now come together and live amongst each
other with no hate in their hearts for their neighbour.
The Personification of For all vices, for all victims :
In her poem, For all voices, for all victims, Antjie Krog makes use of the metaphors in lines four
through eleven to bring life to the redeemed South Africa in a post apartheid time: it breathes
becalmed after being wounded in its wondrous throat
in the cradle of my skull it sings, it ignites my tongue, my inner ear, the cavity of heart shudders
toward the outline new in soft intimate clicks and gutturals
The idea of the line, it breathed becalmed, (Krog, in Carolin, 2014: l. 4) Antjie Krog creates a
sense of relief with, as the feeling of calming is one felt only by humans, she makes use of the
comparison to personify South Africa. The image created by a calming country can only take
place if to one that has previously been harmed, hence the line, after being wounded, which further
explains the image that South Africa is calmed after the severity of the wound which was caused
by the apartheid era. The following lines, it sings, it ignites/ my tongue, my inner ear, the cavity of
heart/ shudders towards the outline/ new in soft intimate clicks and gutturals, (Krog, in Carolin,

Blood Spatter Analysis Essay
Introduction
Blood Spatter Analysis (BPA) is a forensic technique to interpret bloodstain in order to understand
and recreate a crime scene that involve blood shedding event. BPA is regarded as a very crucial
process in crime investigation as it provides evidence in easing a trial process in court. The BPA
was considered as a significant area of science in crime investigation only after the year of 1955,
even though, the first study was dated back in the late 1890. There are several questions arise in
blood shedding event, such as the origin of the blood, the cause of the wound, the direction of the
spatter, the position of the victim during the event, the movement of victim after the event, and
most importantly is that does the evidence interpreted by the Blood Spatter Analyst is valid to
support the case. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amongst technique applied to gain an inference of an event is by using Stringing Method in
order to obtain information on the position of the victim and the direction of attack. The blood
impacted on a hard surface at an angle gives a characteristic of head and tail shape, and the
direction of blood droplets move in inferred from the direction of the tail formed on the surface.
Figure 1 shows the impact direction of the blood droplet.
Figure 1. (a)Ellipse formed upon impact. (b) Direction deduced from the formation of the tail.
As an approximation, minor axis always indicated the original diameter of the droplet and major
axis and the tail formation showing the direction of the impact. Figure 2 below shows the stringing
method to deduce the position of victim during the scene. Figure 2. Stringing Method
As shown in the figure 2 above, the position of the victim during the scene was deduced by joining
string from multiple drops of blood that impacted the wall according to the direction of individual
drops.

Rotavirus In Children
By their fifth birthday, almost all children have been infected by rotavirus. Annually, rotaviruses
cause approximately 111 million incidences of gastroenteritis in children, 2 million hospitalisations,
and between 352,000 and 592,000 deaths.1 Gastroenteritis is an acute inflammation of the stomach
and intestines and it has a significant impact on childhood mortality and morbidity worldwide. It is
caused by rotavirus, which after infecting the lining of the intestines, triggers severe diarrhoea in
young children.2 However, with the development of vaccines, the threat of disease by rotavirus has
been significantly reduced.

Both of these vaccinations are classified as live attenuated vaccines, meaning that it contains a

Flash back to 1943, when I was at the ripe age of 24 (I know, I m getting pretty old!) At this point
in my life, I had recently gained quite a bit of fame in the exploring community from my tales of
traveling the Gobi desert. Seeking for more travels to tell stories of back home, I had decided to
ditch the desert and go somewhere much, much colder: Nepal, the home of the Himalayan mountain
range. I can still remember the first time I saw the towering majesties, standing higher than the gods
with their tops obscured by clouds. The moment I laid my eyes on them, I knew: these mountains

Analysis of New Social Movement Theory Essay
Analysis of New Social Movement Theory
Works Cited Not Included
In Johnston, LaraГ±a, and Gusfield s discussion of New Social Movement (NSM) theory, they
identify the concept as a double edged sword, in that is has both related itself to the changing shape
of society but also overemphasized the newness of its model, almost divorcing itself from previous
social movement theories instead of acknowledging and assessing the similarities between them
and integrating what is useful from theories of the past. As its basic framework asserts that social
movements now are not as linked to class as they were in the time of the emergence of Marxism
and at the height of industrialist society (as Resource Mobilization Theory might stress), new ...

The second characteristic of NSM s is tied to the first, in that groups no longer tend to share an over
arching ideological framework, whereas in Marxist discourse, such a shared frame was the unifying
and totalizing element for collective action (Buechler Cylke 277). Ideological unity has been
supplanted by pragmatic orientations where movement members seek institutional reform to attain
greater power in decision making processes, promoting a democratizing dynamic in social
movement discourse.
The third characteristic describes the mode of identity formation that is predominant in NSM s,
whose center tends to be cultural and symbolic issues, in contrast to the mobilization around
economic grievances in other social movements (Buechler Cylke 277). The shared symbols and
cultural meanings of members of NSM s serve to redefine daily life in the context of the movement.
A blurring between public and private action or relation between the individual and the collective
is the fourth and a very prominent trait of NSM s (Buechler Cylke 277). The hippie movement and
vegetarianism are good examples of private behaviors being perceived as part of a social movement
or being connected to a collective identity. Johnston, et al. explain this by indicating that in and
through movements that have no clear class or structural base, the movement becomes the focus
for the individual s definition of himself or herself, and

The Requirements For Home Area Network Security
Abstract:
The main objective of this document is to create and analyze the requirement for home area
network security. Security set up balance is always required against the risk being moderated. As
HAN is related to the households there is a little interest paid to the home area network security.
Earlier the threats for the HAN were other malicious programs and viruses. Now in this modern
world with the invention of wireless networking, broadband and convergence of various
communication technologies which has been implemented by HANs, these vulnerabilities have
increased more. Public has a very less knowledge on theft of personal information, hacking of
credit cards and they are not going to affect them a lot. Thus this document illustrates the present
and future technology of home area network security and how is it going to affect and also some of
the security measures for home area network.
1.Introduction:
In this modern era, everyone has a computer and has an internet connection. The benefits that go
with networking and the interconnection of computers have made a lot of impact into an average
household. Home area network is referred as the downward pricing trend of the personal

My Love Of Theatre
I have been a performer my entire life, and want to continue to impact those around me through
theater. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions.
My love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of
plays and musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at
my school s brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs.
Harcourt in Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this
year I was the Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing,
a student run production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring
Sing since my freshman year and my class hopes to win this year!
Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is
a time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of
the character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for
creative expression.
My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of
the most important skills an actor can learn. I have been in improv club since my freshman year of
high school, and truly believe that it has helped me with my communication skills and self
confidence. These classes teach me how to use my environment to my

They will need to be open minded learners because to properly adapt to new situations, and new

things which ll help them become better leaders. This will benefit the team, because everyone

especially when it comes to financial affairs. The issue of whether or not tax exemption benefits

they are perceived to be by individuals, have a strong influence in the society. Aside from providing

James Baldwin s View On Religion
Works of all genres contains religious references and allusions, many of which criticize or
critique certain religious practices, and James Baldwin, an author in the 1950s, served as a major
contributor to this group of works. He wrote several books, plays, and essays that served as major
pieces of religious commentary during the 1950s. His writing explored topics that criticized strict
religion, opening up a new outlook on relationships with God. Baldwin experienced many facets of
religion in his life, creating autobiographical tendencies in his writing that filled his works with his
own opinions about religion. James Baldwin s religious experiences, some harsh and some

The autobiographical nature of Baldwin s writings, coupled with the common appearance of
Christian ideas in his stories, suggests that he led a largely Christian life. Stanley later validates
this notion in saying that Baldwin himself worked as a teenage preacher (Stanley). Confirming
his Christian childhood, Baldwin s status as a preacher strengthens the importance of religion in
his life. Lloyd states that Baldwin s father often recited Joshua 24:25, saying as for me and my
house, we will serve the Lord (Lloyd 5). Lloyd furthers the idea that Baldwin s early life
contained a strong Christian presence, as this Bible quote highlights the prominence of religion
in Baldwin s life. In addition to Baldwin s status as a teenage preacher, his residence in a house
dedicated to serving God explains the religious presence in his works and confirms the idea that
he often discussed important concepts of his life in his writing. Baldwin s Go Tell It on the
Mountain begins with [he] would be a preacher when he grew up, just like his father. This shows
not only the religious nature of Baldwin s writing but also provides evidence of his
autobiographical tendencies. The main character s status as a preacher reveals that Baldwin wrote
characters possessing very similar qualities to his own and that his works contained a strong
religious presence. Baldwin s religious lifestyle serves as a gateway for the establishment of strong

The Effect Of Sleep Deprivation On Seizure
A study on the effect of sleep deprivation on seizure in epilepsy disorder and its relation to
signaling bathways in the brain
People with seizure disorder usually have problems with their sleep. Daytime sleepiness, lack of
energy and drowsiness are frequently seen in epileptic patients. Baseline electrical activity has been
vastly studied in epilepsy. Seizures can be either partial or generalized. Based on the area of the
brain triggered by epileptic waves, any kind of motor or sensory abnormalities can happen in
partial seizure. If the whole brain cortex is triggered, generalized tonic clonic seizure can happen,
which is the classic shaking of the body and loss of consciousness. Generalized seizures may be
followed by a post ictal period in which the patient will be heavily drowsy and may experience
memory loss for a short amount of time. It has been shown that epileptic patients can reach
threshold potentials more readily than the normal population and lack of sleep can be a trigger for
causing a seizure [1]. The circadian rhythm, synchronizing role of thalamo cortical networks, and
reduced intracortical inhibition have been suggested as underlying physiologic factors elicited by
sleep deprivation that make a patient more prone to seizure activity.
The abnormal progress from resting potential to a wild epileptic wave can be triggered by sleep
deprivation as lack of sleep alters the neural resting potential.
Seizure occurrence is found to be related to the circadian

Case Study
As a Learning Assistant, working in Year 3, I worked closely with a seven year old girl who, for
the purpose of this case study, I will call Jane. Jane was a confident and happy girl who, despite not
being particularly academically gifted, always participated with class discussions and activities
enthusiastically.
Half way through the academic year Jane s behaviour and personality seemed to alter drastically.
She became withdrawn and moody and generally seemed genuinely unhappy. Her attendance,
which had been excellent, had also been affected. One day whilst Jane was helping me wash fruit
for morning snack she began to cry. She opened up to me and admitted that two

A LEARNING BASED APPROACH TO ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE:
FIVE CASE STUDIES OF GUIDED CHANGE INITIATIVES

Lack of openness in the workplace is very costly. Design engineers who say nothing about the
problem they cannot solve run the risk that, when they do solve it, they will require other key
parts of the design to be changed. And by that time others have made costly investments in
tooling that must now be scrapped, compounding costs and delays. In one of the cases we
studied, the Epsilon new car design project at a leading auto maker, major cost savings were
achieved (over $60 million) through their ability to confront and change this powerful pattern of
secretiveness, a long standing part of their workplace culture. They recognized that this tacit norm
was based on deeper lying assumptions (shared by all of them) about what is expected from a good
design engineer and that those mental models were reinforced by the behavior of managers who
consistently chastised and humiliated engineers who brought up unresolved problems. So, naturally
they concealed their problems, reporting nothing, until they were close to a solution. During the
Epsilon change process, Epsilon s top managers learned to see how their own behavior was
creating results they did not want and they learned how to behave differently and get better results
both in terms of cost savings and in the satisfaction they all derived from their work. With less
blaming, there was more trust, openness, and better

My Mother As A Hero
Sitting on my mother s lap has always been the safest place for me. Although she beholds a
lovely image, I imagine her as a fearless warrior ready and armed to attack anyone who dared to
touch her child. I admired my mother s strength as I watched her work for tireless hours, but,
furthermore, I admired her willingness to sacrifice resting time in order to be with my siblings and
me. Although my motherdid not have a warrior s armor consisting of a sword and shield, listening
to her stories about Mexico, her love for my father, and their struggle in America, she became that
fearless fighter who protected me and guided me through hardships.
Unlike my mother, I was not fearless. I could not watch horror movies because I would not sleep
for weeks. I could not stand in a pitch black room because I would search frantically for a ray of
light. Many times I would awake terror stricken and call out for my mother, yet due to her night
shifts she would not answer. I would spend entire nights looking at the ceiling, hoping for the
sun to rise, and for my mother to show. These immense fears, which plagued my childhood, have
been the ones to teach me that great courage is needed in life. I would force myself to be brave or
to at least act brave. Not having my mother come to me every time I called for her, made me realize
that I cannot depend on anybody to get me through obstacles, especially, if that obstacle is my own
fear.
Going through life I stuck to acting brave.

Andrew Gore Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Al Gore asked three questions, his first question was do we really have to change? His second was,
can we change? And his third was, will we change? Throughout his argument Gore answers these
questions for his audience. Gore s argumentative presentation on climate change and his opinion as
to what could be done about it gave his audience and listeners insight to the problem with climate
change. He is very personable throughout his presentation, utilizing his tools to give his audience
something to be interested in. Gore s thoughts on Climate change were brilliantly displayed through
his tone, his emotional appeal, and his logical appeal.
Al Gore captures his audience s attention using informal tone. He simplified his information to

Integrating Virtual Teams And The Development Of Employee...
Structuring Virtual Teams Introduction With the increasing progression of modern technology, and
the paramount development of employee expectations, society has seen great shifts in
globalization. Organizations have created new and innovative ways to teamwork, and many of
today s organizations have transformed their views from traditional teamwork, to a new
phenomenon in that of virtual teams (Daft, 2012). Due to globalization, organizations have become
cross functional, and utilizes modern technology such as e mail, instant messaging, video

Work Design Option Because of the challenges faced by virtual teams, many organizations that
utilize them encounter significant obstacles to effective work processes (Piccoli Ives, 2004). Team
leaders must understand that a properly designed virtual team, with a solid team structure provides
the foundation for effective team performance and offers a viable strategic approach (Prasad
Akhilesh, 2002). Although there are various views on virtual team structures and their
effectiveness, research suggest that there are no specific criteria s to distinguish teams in terms of
their virtual structures, as a result, the most common way of understanding virtual team structures
is through the observation of their organizational chart (Prasad Akhilesh, 2002). However, due to
globalization, and the fact that many virtual teams today are comprised of individuals in various
geographical locations, virtual team designs go far beyond a typical organizational chart. Virtual
leaders should understand that an effective work design must address the contextual elements, and
the process and procedures that individual team members bring to the team (Prasad Akhilesh,
2002). McLean (2014), suggest that there is no true effective approach to virtual team structures
(McLean, 2014), therefore, it is vital that team leaders realize that paramount to the success of the

globally. It also consists of the comparison between Nike and Toms. Finally this case study also
includes and insight on an interview, suggestions and an evaluation.
Nike is a multinational corporation founded by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman in 1964. Nike
produces, markets and sells athletic footwear, apparel and other accessories. Even though they
have a great reputation with their products, Nike is not seen as a good corporate citizen. Nike
does not have enough campaigns that they do globally, especially in Asia after allegedly being
accused of Violating Labour Laws in 1996. Nike was involved in Child labour. The only active
campaign they have running globally is the Active Schools Campaign.
There are many strategies and tactics that Nike could use to build back their reputation and regain
the consumer base they lost when this issue started. With the large social media platforms Nike has,
They are able to show the campaigns that they do and the causes that they believe in.
Toms being a smaller company compared to Nike, do so much more for the community they have

My Learning Experience
In the last year, I have moved from New Jersey to New York to Iowa. Moving away from your
family is hard, but can be done by having a strong relationship with people and good friends.
Moving multiple times for the same reason, hockey, can be mentally and physically tough, but the
outcome and experiences that you will encounter will make up for it. Moving is hard but can be
overcome and can be viewed as a learning experience. Being born and raised in New Jerseyhas
impacted my life in a very special way. From kindergarten through eighth grade, I was in the
same school called St. Paul s, which is located in Princeton. I made some amazing friends during
my time in middle school. During this time, I was playing hockey for a team called The Little
Flyers, which was just outside of Pennsylvania. We were a remarkable team that won many games
and championships over the years. The coach was a former player in the National Hockey League
named Stephane Charbonneau. He was a special coach who had exceptional advice and
knowledge of the game. Two days out of the week, when I did not have team practice, I would
have goaltending lesson with a goaltending coach named George Bosak. George is one of my
favorite goalie coaches I have ever worked with. He has so much knowledge and love for the game.
After eighth grade when I graduated from St. Paul s, I had to make a decision: stay and play high
schoolhockey, go to Buffalo, New York or go to Canton Michigan to play and develop my skills as

Belonging Involves Conforming and a Loss of Identity -...
The foundation of belonging is often associated with the loss of a person s individuality. Indeed, as
the construction of one s identity is highly intricate and ever changing, several authorities often
considers its development to be associated with our relationships. From this, it can be shown that
belonging can be associated with the degradation of one s identity. Such impact can be explained
through the reality that in order to belong, we must share similar characteristics or identity with that
group however this can involve enhancing character s identity. Nonetheless, due to its complexities,
for some, belonging can threaten a person s identity and individuality. In order to belong we must

Teenagers however are often ostracized for being different and this results to the conformity of
many children and the foreclosing on uniqueness and individuality. In cases of children,
belonging is usually not associated with the degradation of identity. This may not be the case
with older people as it is a lot more complicated and sometimes conforming may be the only way
to belong. We must consider times at which belonging can threaten an individualised identity.
For some, the only way to belong is to conform to expectations, losing personal ideologies as a
result. In the book The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian, Junior is a perfect example of
conforming in order to belong. Junior is just a poor Indian reservation kid who dreams of a
better life and takes action by attending an all white private school in Reardan. He is considered

something less than less than less than Indian. Junior struggle to fit is exacerbated when the
Indian people where he once belonged no longer accepts him as he has left them for the white
people. The trouble is, he didn t belong in the all white school either as his life [was] a constant

There is a high importance in implementing commonly successful training procedures such as
audiovisual methods, E learning portal, and on the job experience. Remember, the main purpose of
employee training is to develop the employee s skill which will eventually make the organization
more profitable (Ameeq ul Ameeq, Hanif, 2013).
Audiovisual Methods The use of audiovisual equipment like instructional DVDs, CDs, or digital
media is beneficial in initially showing an incoming employee how the company s business
works. DVDs, CDs, or digital media can assist employees in need of training without the
associated cost of a second instructing employee. This can be of use when the training is
monotonous and not required to have a high level explanation. When possible, it can be helpful
for the new employee to see his or her own mistakes by recording. The recording of the employee
s mistake and later explanation of error and resolution in real time covering an action that is
observable by both parties (Snell Bohlander, p. 310, 2012).
E learning portal The electronic learning portal is taking place of many of the employee training
programs. This is because E learning portal can be used to deliver the study material directly to
the employee instead of the employee needing to have a supervisor deliver it directly. This
program has shown to save companies anywhere between 30 and 70 percent over traditional
methods (Fister, 2008). Utilizing this system decreases

Eyes Wide Open By Richard Powers
Eyes Wide Open by Richard Powers discusses ways of education in the past one thousand years
and strives to find the necessary things needed to improve it in the next thousand years. Three
assertions he closed the piece with are asking not how things ought to be but how things are,
finding out not what we should do with the world, but what we can make the world do, and the next
thousand years must make up the difference, returning subtlety and richness and morals and
lightness of spirit to the long human experiment, if any part of it is to survive. Plato, Pierce,
Whitehead, Bloom and many others have commented on this idea of how knowledgeand education
were and/or how it should continue to be. In my opinion, the idea of science behind everything is
necessary and most likely enough to lead us toward the best form of education for the next
millennium. The importance of looking at the world of how things are, not how things ought to be,
is an controversial part of taking the step toward the ideal future of education that I and many
writers would agree with. ...if the time required for readjustment was not short wouldn t he provoke
ridicule? Wouldn t it be said of him that he had returned form his upward journey with his eyes
ruined, and that it is not worthwhile even to try to travel upward? (Plato 2). By asking these

Analysis Of Two Lovers And A Beachcomber By Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath and Two Lovers and a Beachcomber by the Real Sea Sylvia Plath, while one of the
best known poets of the 20th century, has diminished in popularity to the modern audience.
Despite this, Plath s work is still poignant today with its self examination of life in the context of
poor mental health and its confessional style that has become a staple of American literature. On
October 27, 1932, Sylvia Plath was born to Aurelia Schober and Otto Plath, both immigrants of
Germanic descent. Although she was born in Boston, Sylvia Plath spent her childhood years in
Winthrop, Massachusetts, a smaller coastal town. Unfortunately, Plath lost her father to diabetes
related complications in November of 1940 at the young age of eight; however, her eighth year
of life also brought her the publication of her first poem in the children s section of The Boston
Herald. Two years later, the Plath family moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts, so her mother could
work at Boston University and support the family. Plath excelled at her school in Wellesley and
began to receive prizes and awards for her writing. Along with her natural intelligence, this
culminated in a personality that her mother described as precocious as well as the development of
perfectionist tendencies that would afflict her significantly later in life (Barnard 15). Similarly,
America s entrance into World War II in 1944 contributed to Sylvia Plath s pessimistic outlook on
human nature. Additionally, as she grew up and

Ben Shahn s The Passion Of Sacco And Vanzetti
Ben Shahn s painting The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti highlights the discrimination immigrant
groups, as outsiders, face in many aspects of the American experience, particularly that before the
justice system. Shahn effectively argues that the American systems, as a result of prejudice and
hostility towards immigrants, can be incredibly unjust and abusive. He does so through his specific
use of colors, the symbolism of the figures he chose to use, and the framing of his painting. The
Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti is made with tempera and gouache on canvas mounted on
composition board. It was painted by social realist Ben Shahn in the years of 1931 and 1932 as a

Apparently, it took the judge, who stands at the window of the courthouse, hypocritically
holding up his right hand in a sign of honesty, three hours to deem guilty the accused. Honorable
they may have been, but when facing what they view as a crisis, those in power will generally
do what they deem necessary to protect an established order in which they occupy positions of
privilege (33). It can be seen in the faces of the men that though they are in honorable positions
of power, their ideas about justice and fairness were quickly distorted. Shahn painted the men
with bored looking and cold faces. Even the smaller details of the painting hold great importance.
Frame of the painting and the scale of the figures implies something: the person viewing the scene
depicted in the painting is doing so intimately, from a close range, as if invited to the funeral: the
viewer is a bystander like the three men who convicted Sacco and Vanzetti. For example, even now
the response of many majority Americans has been to support measures that place large portions of
the immigrant populations under suspicion and state surveillance (35). Shahn is trying to say that

Puritans Religious Beliefs
The English reformed Protestants would be funded to establish a new colony in the America s with
almost radical ideals. They were called the Puritans, but shaped American history. John Winthrop
led the expedition that bring this religion across the sea with good and pure examples. Puritan ideas
and beliefs affected the political reign as well as the economy, not to mention the entire society.
Their religious ideals would shape almost everything about the community, as well as country. The
church was a mandatory attendance in Puritan communities. While not all attendees were full
members, things such as how the town would run and voting were decided by the church. For the
Puritans, religious and political life were completely intertwined. (Puritans in America, Study, 2017)
The Puritans believed that God had a unique covenant with them, and that they were expected to
live by the beliefs of the scriptures. Just as other religious beliefs, such as the Amish, they had no
tolerance for drinking, sex without procreating. Many were often left in fear of what their ultimate
fate was after death, whether eternal salvation or damnation. Because of their mandatory
expectations, early migrants of the Massachusetts Bay colonies were full members of the Puritan
churches. The church was very strict in their beliefs, and in their influence in the colonies. This fear
and worship would be prevalent in most American religious, as well as their study and sacrifice.

The concept of the tourist gaze attempts to do this . . . [by] categorising objects of the gaze in
terms of romantic/collective, historical/modern, authentic/inauthentic (p. 135). This chapter has a
detailed treatment of visual images in modern cites, mainly Paris. The discussion might have been
improved if it had used
Schivelbusch s (1980) material on 19th century
Paris and the links between travel, technology, and urban imagery.
The Tourist Gaze provides a number of interesting perspectives that amount to more than an
introduction to the sociology of tourism. It covers many topics and examples in its 176 pages, which
means most get only superficial treatment. The limited depth also means that certain points are
potentially misleading. Moreover, the book sometimes gives the impression of flitting from source
to source and from field to field, missing points that deeper and longer research may have revealed.
Certain points about New Zealand, for instance, indicate superficial knowledge, to the detriment of
the arguments.
Discussing facilities for accommodation, meals, drink, and entertainment, the book notes that
outside the four major cites [of New Zealand] there are almost no such facilities (p. 46). In fact,

The Life and Contribution to the Development of the British Empire of James Cook
I) Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to describe the life and the contribution to the development of the
British Empire of one of the most important English explorers. It was in the second half of the 18th
century when James Cook, originally a poor farm boy, explored and mapped vast uncharted areas
of the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. However, James Cook was not only an explorer. He can also
be called a scientist he managed to introduce new principles into seafaring and cartography.
For better understanding, the paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the
introduction, which throws light on the purpose and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such a structure of commerce enabled the immense growth of wealth of the country.
An imperial enthusiasm the British found out that they could grow rich from the trade with their
colonies. As a result it led to a constant, unending search for new markets for British products, new
trading centres and eventually, new lands to settle their surplus criminals and poor, unemployed
citizens.
New inventions in navigation these inventions had a profound influence, not only upon Britain, but
even upon much of the rest of the world. John Hadley s invention of the reflecting quadrant made
it possible to determine the latitude at noon or by night. Extremely accurate, it was quickly
adopted by the admiralty (1730). John Harrison s ship chronometer was to revolutionise the world
s shipping (1736). A new method of combating scurvy was found James Lind recommended to use
citrus juice (1747) and finally, John Campbell introduced the new sextant to the Royal Navy (1757).
All of these inventions helped to create Britain s naval supremacy.
A new philosophical approach the 18th century in Western Europe is the beginning of the Age of
Reason, the philosophers and scientists stressed the value of global discovery, of learning more
about the earth and of collecting unusual flora and fauna from around the globe.
Thus Great Britain established (or

Jewfish
He has a museum of items appertaining to the Jew. A Jew s harp, of course: four in fact, one

newspaper, before dinner. The newspaper is important, he s looking out for things. His mother
left him a long list of things to look out for. Some of them are stories about Jews, some of them

now it s automatic. When he finds one of these stories, he cuts it out with scissors and puts it into
a file. The apartment is full of these files. Sometimes he takes out his list and looks at it again, just
to make sure he s doing everything correctly. He s cutting out some articles, and watching for other
ones, very important ones, which never come. But if they did come, he d know what to do. It s all
written down.
For dinner every night, he eats something from Mrs Bleen s store. She gives him the dented cans,
the cheese with a little mold, the fruit that s past date. He likes this way of deciding what to eat
otherwise, there d be too much choice. He has money. As well as the apartment, his parents left him

every month, telling him how they re getting along. The second account is growing, while the first
one isn t getting any smaller. This pleases him. It s important to have money.

Different Cultures Within The Same Time Period During The...
In order to embark on two different cultures within the same time period during the middle Ages
there needs to be a clear contrast between the two. In the Western Middle Ages where the
emergence of lords and vassals came about there was sworn loyalty by vassals to their lords of
whom took care of them. In return the vassals would serve, protect and honor their lords.
Therefore the mutual obligations of lords and vassals was to honor one another. Vassals doing
so with their military services to protect the lord and his family. Lords doing so with their gift of
land for the vassals and their families. In all levels the obligations always created an honorable
connection between free men and did not imply any sense of slavery. In discussing the
importance of the relationship between lords and vassals also brings up another important
practice. Fief holding, this was the land or income granted to the vassal in return for military
service. Many vassals who held land deeds also were granted legal and political authority within
their fiefs. These vassals would create a single government and become lord of their area. Fief
holding became very complicated, there were Kings who had vassals and these vassals were known
as lords. The lord s vassals subdivided their fiefs and also had vassals of their own, who also
subdivided their fiefs and had vassals. This when on down the line to knights who also had fiefs
but were too small to divide. Unaware of the eastern civilization

Spirited Away By Hayao Miyazaki
Spirited Away In Spirited Away, Hayao Miyazaki introduces a young girl named Chihiro. She s
brought into the Spirit World through the curiosity and greediness of her parents. Miyazaki makes
her life problematic because of the simple nature of humans. He realizes that the different negative
characteristics that humans have within them lead them to trouble, even children. He claims that I
m not going to make movies that tell children, You should despair and run away . (Hayao Miyazaki
Quotes) With this in mind, Miyazaki attempts to show children that they re capable of
overcoming problems even at the young age that they re at. Within the spirit world, the
apparitions have negative plans for humans, specifically for the future of Chihiro. As if it wasn t
enough for him to put the young girl in a setting with Spirits/Ghosts, he makes it so that these
apparitions have negative plans in mind for the humans that they come in contact with. Miyazaki
does this in order to put Chihiro in a situation that the audience would see as extremely difficult.
He then adds onto Chihiro s circumstances by creating a complex environment that she has to live
in while she s in the spirit world. He places her in an spa/inn run by a deranged woman who cares
more for her gigantic baby than the spa/inn itself. Miyazaki planned and created many different
angles of the building in order to depict to the audience the type of situation that Chihiro is to be
put in.

different aspects of what each candidate hs to offer.
IV. Short Answer
Consider that Earth s population is projected to rise to 10 billion by the year 2050. The current
population is only around 6 billion. Most scientists predict global warming will be noticeable by
the year 2050 as well.
What parts of the world currently have the fastest and slowest population growth? (4 points)
Fastest пѓ Sub Saharan Africa
Slowest пѓ Europe
What regions do you think will have the highest population densities in the year 2050? Explain why.
(6 points)
My best guess is India will have the highest population density because they are industrializing
quickly, have plenty resources and are working to get more and also they have lot of job
opportunities. In other places it does seem like there will be much industrialization such as Africa
which can cause the people to die out when they do nt have resources. Also the culture in India from
what I have seen is that people have many children and encourage big families and take care of
each other.
How do you think the population increase will affect urban areas in the world?

Research Paper On Left Handedness
Introduction
To begin my research I had to decide on a topic. Using a lotus diagram, I came up with 9 possible
enquiry areas of interest to me and narrowed this down to one by deciding which worked best
and interested me most. I decided on researching left handedness. I then had to decide on a topic
within the area and influenced by my love of science I landed on my research question: In what
ways, physically and psychologically are right handers different to left handers and what causes
this?
Research Processes
After deciding on a topic I brainstormed ideas for primary and secondary sources. An obvious
choice for secondary sources was the internet. There were many articles explaining left handedness,
providing theories for its occurrence and outlining differences present between left handers and
right handers. I narrowed my search to articles directly relevant to my topic. I wanted other
secondary sources (so I went onto the SA library website, where I searched for books relevant to
my research question) and found 2 books that became very valuable resources: Right Hand, Left
Hand by Chris McManus, a Professor of Psychology, specialising in handedness and A left hand
turn around the world, by David Wolman which explained his journey to discover all he could
about left handedness. These resources provided me with diverse knowledge about the causes and
history of left handedness. Right Hand, Left Hand was especially valuable as it introduced me to

Mindfulness For Beginners By John Kabat Zinn
Mindfulness for Beginners
Summary
John Kabat Zinn, the author of Minfulness for Beginners, suggests that we often search for
wholeness, but it is already present within us. Mindfulness is the practice of accepting the deeper
inner thoughts that infiltrates our lives. Mindfulness for Beginners educates you on how to change
your relationship with the way you feel, think, work, love, and play. Strengthening your relationship
will stimulate and manifest who you really are.
The author, John Kabat Zinn, demonstrated the benefits of mindfulness in three different ways. The
author created the format of the book to be read and explored at random, a complete start to finish
read, or a lesson per day on mindfulness practice. Entering, Sustaining, Deepening, Ripening, and
Practicing are the sections in the book. Beginner level and advanced level meditators are able to
find valuable and applicable information in this book. The key attitudes and essential practices of
mindfulness explain why heartfulness is the same mindfulness, the significance of becoming
attentive to our bodies and senses, how our thoughts are released when affected by awareness, the
causes of distress, and how mindfulness heals.
Mindfulness for Beginners provides enlightening information, answers, and instruction to guide the
change into a more pure, spacious, dependable, and caring connection with ourselves and the world.
There is a complimentary disk and instructions on how to start mindfulness meditation at

Notes On The Day Of The National Anthem
Quotes 1 this quote reminds me of my training in jujutsu. For each black belt, there are three
main concepts you must try and work in to your life. For the first degree, black belt one of those
is determination. I believe that this is important for the first level because it help teach us to not
give up and to continue to train no matter what. 2 It is the mark of an educated mind to be able
to entertain a thought without accepting it This quote make me think about how important
critical thinking skills are. If we blindly trust everything we here or whatever we think without
truly analyzing what we are about to say. It is because we fail to analyze our thoughts that we
end up with so much false in for nation. Currently I see this as a big problem without modern
society as most people will just believe everything that we here on the news. Once we are
educated thou we CNS better weed out truth from fiction. 3 Should we stand to the national
anthem at sporting events and why? I think that it is truly your own opinion and that it also
depends on why you chose to sit. I don t think it is that important to stand for the anthem. I
personally don t see what the big deal with our obsession with our country is. Most Americans are
overly patriotic if you ask me and we should all lighten up a little bit. We seem to think that our
country is the greatest and that we are somehow better than other countries. Standing for the anthem
should be a personal choice personally I would have

Imagination And Reality In Ode To A Nightingale
Hi my name is Dheer Bhatia, today I will talk to you about how Keats explores both imagination
and reality in the poem Ode to a Nightingale. This poem is about how Keats escapes reality and
goes to an imaginative world with a nightingale where he hears her songs and lullabies before
inevitably returning to the real world. It s an expression of love, hence the word ode, to the
nightingale and her songs. The creative piece I have chosen is an illusion painting that is painted by
Robert Gonsalves, and it illustrates the separation between imaginationand reality, and its difficulty
in its distinction. Keats uses juxta positioning, imagery, structure and rhetorical questions to explore
the two concepts of imagination and reality.
Discrepancy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the art piece, there is a bed of water underneath the ships and the boat. The fluidity and
movement of the waves are symbolic of the transition between imagination and reality. Keats
desire to escape is shown through the rough brush strokes of the blue waves in the foreground.
This suggests the transition to be difficult and problematic. The colour of the sea, blue, has
connotations of serenity and peace suggesting the fate of Keats once the transition is complete.
Keats longs to escape reality as he describes reality as where men sit and hear each other groan .
This depicts reality to be tedious and dreary, which results in him loathing this concept. The
word groan is an expression that conveys dread and despair, therefore Keats feels this way
towards reality due to its monotonous and depressing characteristics. The action of groaning
portrays an unappealing view of the world that Keats is longing to escape when conversing with
the nightingale. Furthermore, the elongation of the word groan suggests the tedious and tiring
effort to stay within the normal world and emphasises Keats desire to escape from and seek
asylum in the nightingale s world. Keats expresses this through his actions when he goes Away!
Away! , this makes the reader question the society and world they live in, as Keats sole desire is to
escape the very world they stay in now. In

  • 2. Othello Prejudice And Prejudice Discrimination At It s Finest Racism and Sexism are two extremely prominent problems that have been occurring for many years. Many people are prejudice towards others who are not the same as them. Today we have come very far in order to limit discrimination, although there are still many places and people that are sexist and racist. In the three texts I read this term Othello, Snow Falling on Cedars and Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) there is a direct link to either racism, sexism or even both. These texts were all set in past times except for Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) which had components of the story that were set in today s time. We are going to explore the similarities of discrimination between these three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This playwright shows us how people today discriminate against women particularly seen in the views on Desdemona s character. Academe believes that you re a doomed and helpless victim. (2.2). Constance tells Desdemona this and instantly Desdemona is enraged by the fact people think this of her. We are exposed to a side of Desdemona in this play that we may have not picked up on entirely in Othello. Constance opens our eyes to the fact that Desdemona is a strong and capable character and not the innocent and helpless character that she is made out to seem. You are magnificent! Othello should make you his lieutenant. You re capable of greatness, Desdemona. (2,2). Because Desdemona is never given a real voice in Othello her character is watered down and her true colours are not shown. Readers are sexist against Desdemona because she is a woman and in those times women were considered to be much less powerful and important than men. Constance Ledbelly is also taken advantage of because she is a woman by her superior, Professor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Descriptive Essay About Surf Shop San Luis Obispo is known for many things, such as the giant rolling hills, Thursday downtown farmer s markets, and the college that dominates this place, but one major part of the culture here that is often overlooked is surfing. No matter where one is on campus, they will see people headed off to the beach with their board in hand, or headed to Poly Escapes to rent one. I have only been surfinga handful of times in my life, which is why I chose to analyze a surf shop; I have always been fascinated by the huge obsession with surfing that is present. When meeting people for the first time here, it is almost inevitable to get asked if one surfs because it is becoming the norm, which is something that I am not used to, coming from... He said, I also think it represents like a family owned and operated company that like even though bigger companies are coming in and taking over San Luis. there is still local companies around that are family owned and I think it s really cool that we have been around for like thirty two thirty three years. The store came to be over thirty years ago in 1986, which appeals to it s credibility as it is longstanding and therefore well known as a part of the community in San Luis Obispo. One very important part of the ethos at the shop is the interior design. Everything is within it s own section, which creates an organized environment so one can find exactly what they are looking for. The walls are also lined with surfing memorabilia and show the high quality brands that the store carries, such as Aleutian Juice and Lost surfboards. Aleutian Juice boards, by local Dave Parmenter, are quite special, which Luke explained to me, saying I am actually a huge fan of the aleutian juice just because I grew up riding those boards. He is a local shaper from around here...Where as some of the bigger board companies are a lot more machine made, and his are all handmade. So, for that reason I think it is one of the more ... • 4. Difference Between Altruism And Altruism INTRODUCTION Our generation today focuses much more on personal gain, prioritizing themselves for pleasure and self enjoyment. We are in a generation where good name is no more preferred or precious than gold, rather, money is a good name and more precious than a good one, where love for one self, vanity, and giving importance on earthly things counts as a way of having success by pursuing what is best for us and for our loved ones. The Me Generation only shows that people give so much gratitude and admiration to themselves, and that their concentration is self centered and egoistic. This kind of attitude leads people to care less about the social, political, economic and environmental aspects of our lives. Today s generation focuses on acquiring worldly things by having so much money, power, and fame, whereas the idea of having concern with other people in the society is starting to disappear. The I syndrome is placing ourselves before others; a situation whereby people seek their own interests and needs to satisfy themselves, families, relatives and those close to them first before others. Regardless of the fact that there are people that are into the I syndrome, there still exists an act of being concerned about other people s happiness called Altruism . Altruism, in contrast with the I syndrome, is an unselfish concern for other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This behavior refers to any action that benefits other people, no matter what the motive or how the giver benefits from the action. By that, we could say that altruistic acts are pro social. However, pure altruism consists of true selflessness and that, not all pro social acts are fully altruistic. Perhaps, this is the reason why some people could not set apart altruism from egoism. Each servant was expected to reap according to what they had been given; therefore, servant one was to reap five, servant two, two, and servant three, one. However, at the end of the parable, only servant one and two had fulfilled their task. Servant three did not. So, without further ado, this is The Impeccable John Mellagnio in: Himalayan Hijinks! Flash back to 1943, when I was at the ripe age of 24 (I know, I m getting pretty old!) At this point in my life, I had recently gained quite a bit of fame in the exploring community from my tales of traveling the Gobi desert. Seeking for more travels to tell stories of back home, I had decided to ditch the desert and go somewhere much, much colder: Nepal, the home of the Himalayan mountain range. • 11. Analysis of New Social Movement Theory Essay Analysis of New Social Movement Theory Works Cited Not Included In Johnston, LaraГ±a, and Gusfield s discussion of New Social Movement (NSM) theory, they identify the concept as a double edged sword, in that is has both related itself to the changing shape of society but also overemphasized the newness of its model, almost divorcing itself from previous social movement theories instead of acknowledging and assessing the similarities between them and integrating what is useful from theories of the past. As its basic framework asserts that social movements now are not as linked to class as they were in the time of the emergence of Marxism and at the height of industrialist society (as Resource Mobilization Theory might stress), new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second characteristic of NSM s is tied to the first, in that groups no longer tend to share an over arching ideological framework, whereas in Marxist discourse, such a shared frame was the unifying and totalizing element for collective action (Buechler Cylke 277). Ideological unity has been supplanted by pragmatic orientations where movement members seek institutional reform to attain greater power in decision making processes, promoting a democratizing dynamic in social movement discourse. The third characteristic describes the mode of identity formation that is predominant in NSM s, whose center tends to be cultural and symbolic issues, in contrast to the mobilization around economic grievances in other social movements (Buechler Cylke 277). The shared symbols and cultural meanings of members of NSM s serve to redefine daily life in the context of the movement. A blurring between public and private action or relation between the individual and the collective is the fourth and a very prominent trait of NSM s (Buechler Cylke 277). The hippie movement and vegetarianism are good examples of private behaviors being perceived as part of a social movement or being connected to a collective identity. Johnston, et al. explain this by indicating that in and through movements that have no clear class or structural base, the movement becomes the focus for the individual s definition of himself or herself, and ... Security set up balance is always required against the risk being moderated. As HAN is related to the households there is a little interest paid to the home area network security. Earlier the threats for the HAN were other malicious programs and viruses. Now in this modern world with the invention of wireless networking, broadband and convergence of various communication technologies which has been implemented by HANs, these vulnerabilities have increased more. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions. My love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of plays and musicals can deeply impact an audience. The Effect Of Sleep Deprivation On Seizure A study on the effect of sleep deprivation on seizure in epilepsy disorder and its relation to signaling bathways in the brain People with seizure disorder usually have problems with their sleep. Daytime sleepiness, lack of energy and drowsiness are frequently seen in epileptic patients. Baseline electrical activity has been vastly studied in epilepsy. Seizures can be either partial or generalized. Based on the area of the brain triggered by epileptic waves, any kind of motor or sensory abnormalities can happen in partial seizure. If the whole brain cortex is triggered, generalized tonic clonic seizure can happen, which is the classic shaking of the body and loss of consciousness. Generalized seizures may be followed by a post ictal period in which the patient will be heavily drowsy and may experience memory loss for a short amount of time. It has been shown that epileptic patients can reach threshold potentials more readily than the normal population and lack of sleep can be a trigger for causing a seizure [1]. The circadian rhythm, synchronizing role of thalamo cortical networks, and reduced intracortical inhibition have been suggested as underlying physiologic factors elicited by sleep deprivation that make a patient more prone to seizure activity. The abnormal progress from resting potential to a wild epileptic wave can be triggered by sleep deprivation as lack of sleep alters the neural resting potential. In one of the cases we studied, the Epsilon new car design project at a leading auto maker, major cost savings were achieved (over $60 million) through their ability to confront and change this powerful pattern of secretiveness, a long standing part of their workplace culture. They recognized that this tacit norm was based on deeper lying assumptions (shared by all of them) about what is expected from a good design engineer and that those mental models were reinforced by the behavior of managers who consistently chastised and humiliated engineers who brought up unresolved problems. • 36. Analysis Of Two Lovers And A Beachcomber By Sylvia Plath Sylvia Plath and Two Lovers and a Beachcomber by the Real Sea Sylvia Plath, while one of the best known poets of the 20th century, has diminished in popularity to the modern audience. Despite this, Plath s work is still poignant today with its self examination of life in the context of poor mental health and its confessional style that has become a staple of American literature. On October 27, 1932, Sylvia Plath was born to Aurelia Schober and Otto Plath, both immigrants of Germanic descent. Although she was born in Boston, Sylvia Plath spent her childhood years in Winthrop, Massachusetts, a smaller coastal town. Unfortunately, Plath lost her father to diabetes related complications in November of 1940 at the young age of eight; however, her eighth year of life also brought her the publication of her first poem in the children s section of The Boston Herald. Two years later, the Plath family moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts, so her mother could work at Boston University and support the family. Plath excelled at her school in Wellesley and began to receive prizes and awards for her writing. Along with her natural intelligence, this culminated in a personality that her mother described as precocious as well as the development of perfectionist tendencies that would afflict her significantly later in life (Barnard 15). Similarly, America s entrance into World War II in 1944 contributed to Sylvia Plath s pessimistic outlook on human nature. Additionally, as she grew up and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ben Shahn s The Passion Of Sacco And Vanzetti Ben Shahn s painting The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti highlights the discrimination immigrant groups, as outsiders, face in many aspects of the American experience, particularly that before the justice system. Shahn effectively argues that the American systems, as a result of prejudice and hostility towards immigrants, can be incredibly unjust and abusive. He does so through his specific use of colors, the symbolism of the figures he chose to use, and the framing of his painting. The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti is made with tempera and gouache on canvas mounted on composition board. It was painted by social realist Ben Shahn in the years of 1931 and 1932 as a criticism of the infamous American Sacco and Vanzetti case... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Apparently, it took the judge, who stands at the window of the courthouse, hypocritically holding up his right hand in a sign of honesty, three hours to deem guilty the accused. It can be seen in the faces of the men that though they are in honorable positions of power, their ideas about justice and fairness were quickly distorted. Shahn painted the men with bored looking and cold faces. Even the smaller details of the painting hold great importance. Frame of the painting and the scale of the figures implies something: the person viewing the scene depicted in the painting is doing so intimately, from a close range, as if invited to the funeral: the viewer is a bystander like the three men who convicted Sacco and Vanzetti. For example, even now the response of many majority Americans has been to support measures that place large portions of the immigrant populations under suspicion and state surveillance (35). Puritan ideas and beliefs affected the political reign as well as the economy, not to mention the entire society. In order to embark on two different cultures within the same time period during the middle Ages there needs to be a clear contrast between the two. In the Western Middle Ages where the emergence of lords and vassals came about there was sworn loyalty by vassals to their lords of whom took care of them. In return the vassals would serve, protect and honor their lords. Therefore the mutual obligations of lords and vassals was to honor one another. Vassals doing so with their military services to protect the lord and his family. Lords doing so with their gift of land for the vassals and their families. In all levels the obligations always created an honorable connection between free men and did not imply any sense of slavery. In discussing the importance of the relationship between lords and vassals also brings up another important practice. Fief holding, this was the land or income granted to the vassal in return for military service. Many vassals who held land deeds also were granted legal and political authority within their fiefs. These vassals would create a single government and become lord of their area. Fief holding became very complicated, there were Kings who had vassals and these vassals were known as lords. The lord s vassals subdivided their fiefs and also had vassals of their own, who also subdivided their fiefs and had vassals. This when on down the line to knights who also had fiefs but were too small to divide. Unaware of the eastern civilization ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This poem is about how Keats escapes reality and goes to an imaginative world with a nightingale where he hears her songs and lullabies before inevitably returning to the real world. It s an expression of love, hence the word ode, to the nightingale and her songs. The creative piece I have chosen is an illusion painting that is painted by Robert Gonsalves, and it illustrates the separation between imaginationand reality, and its difficulty in its distinction. Keats uses juxta positioning, imagery, structure and rhetorical questions to explore the two concepts of imagination and reality. Discrepancy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the art piece, there is a bed of water underneath the ships and the boat. The fluidity and movement of the waves are symbolic of the transition between imagination and reality. Keats desire to escape is shown through the rough brush strokes of the blue waves in the foreground. This suggests the transition to be difficult and problematic. The colour of the sea, blue, has connotations of serenity and peace suggesting the fate of Keats once the transition is complete. Keats longs to escape reality as he describes reality as where men sit and hear each other groan . This depicts reality to be tedious and dreary, which results in him loathing this concept. The word groan is an expression that conveys dread and despair, therefore Keats feels this way towards reality due to its monotonous and depressing characteristics. The action of groaning portrays an unappealing view of the world that Keats is longing to escape when conversing with the nightingale. Furthermore, the elongation of the word groan suggests the tedious and tiring effort to stay within the normal world and emphasises Keats desire to escape from and seek asylum in the nightingale s world. Keats expresses this through his actions when he goes Away!
