Freud s Worst Nightmare Perfect Sex Dream
In her article, author Barbra Creed discusses a wide range of theories and assumptions on Freud and
his relation to modern cinema, memories, and the development of the original horror film. She begins
by describing Freud and his obsession with horror. She briefly mentions some of his case histories that
entail themes of sexual abuse, hysteria, bestiality, phobias, and perversity, but primarily continues to
inform us of his hatred of cinema. Considering Freud was born in 1856, he was just reaching his mid
50 s when early cinema really took off. Films and movies became the forefront of entertainment, the
must see attraction by audiences across the country, and the newest daring art form. This was,
however, an art form that Sir Sigmund Freud wanted nothing to do with. Despite having several films
be inspired by his theories and writings, Freud refused to become involved with films and filmmaking,
and even avoided being captured on camera in his daughter s home videos. The reason for this hatred
however, is neglected and left questionable by Creed.
The author points out that early cinema was known for stretching the boundaries on narrative
filmmaking by incorporating elements of sex, desire, and eroticism, which were, of course, main
focuses of Freud s countless writings. She continues her analysis by efficiently describing the modern
self and the divided self: two

Privatization of Russian Industries
For some, the privatization of Russian industry has been one of the great success stories of Russia s
painful economic transition: quick, firm and radical action was taken to shift the great bulk of Russian
industry out of state hands, thereby laying the basis for a radical restructuring of enterprises and
improvements in their performance. Others see privatization as a best a failure, at worst a catastrophe.
Not surprisingly those opposed to the market and economic reform as a whole share this view. But
many commentators who see themselves as supporters of reform find plenty in Russian privatization
to criticize: the process led to the transfer of ownership to inappropriate people and as a consequence
no beneficial restructuring of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collective ownership derives either from a natural alliance between managers and rank and file
employees, probably based on Soviet traditions of paternalism and the ‘social contract , or from the
need of managers to pander to workers who control a majority of voting rights at shareholder
meetings. Although some observers might find a collective ownership outcome desirable, on the
grounds that it provides for workplace democracy and high incentive work habits, reform oriented
commentators generally find it a form of ownership likely to lead to the maintenance of excessively
high levels of underemployed staff and an over concentration on consumption at the expense of
investment.
The management ownership outcome derives from the ability of management to totally dominate
divided, demoralized or indifferent rank and file employees. The argument that they do so by bribing
employees with promises of secure employment and the maintenance of social welfare provisions is
essentially the same as that presented in the previous paragraph on collective ownership. However,
there is an increasing awareness among commentators that any Soviet paternalism and coincidence of
management worker interests that might have once existed have not survived the rigors of the
transition and the self interest of managers. As A.S. Bim puts it:
Given serious ‘positional differences between managers and other employees, it seemed reasonable

The Protocol Of A Continuous Concrete Action
One of the significant features in respect to the guidelines existed in the Protocol is evident in the
manner in which they put this into process the subsidiarity principle, and also further softening the

Further, there cannot be found any indication or acknowledgement, in relation to this, of levels of

guidelines that are to be evaluated and checked for the determination of whether steps should be taken
by the Community in the field of so called mutual capabilities and expertise: primarily whether an
issue has transnational aspects that cannot be sustainably regulated by Member State action; then,
whether the lack of community action or the Member State action would contradict with the Treaty

Attitude And Death Of Ancient Greece
Attitude to Death.
Greek
Background: Ancient Greece was a civilization that existed from the 8th 6th Century BC, also called
the Archaic Period, to the end of antiquity, around 600 AD. It is most famous for its philosophers,
artwork and mythology. They worshiped their deities such as Zeus, Hades and Poseidon.... Their
major demise came at the hands of the Macedonians in 338 BC after Greece had been weakened by
the Peloponnesian War. A war between the Spartans and the Athenians leaving the Spartans victorious
but exhausted of their resources and men.
Attitude to Dying: Death for the Greeks was not such a simple process. Seeing as they believed so
firmly in the afterlife death was not really feared, rather life was cherished. As shown by this quote.
I d rather be a day laborer on earth working for a man of little property than lord of all the hosts of the
dead. Achilles in the Iliad.
Upon death the psyche or soul left the body as a little breath or puff of wind. The body would then
undergo a time honored burial ritual. The ritual was split into two parts. The prothesis, the laying out
of the body. The ekphora, the funeral procession. And the interment of the body or cremated remains
of the deceased. During this process the ancient Greeks placed coins in the deceased s mouth and tied
a strap around the head and jaw to keep it closed. These coins served as the toll for the ferry across the
river Styx. During this time, people viewed the body and placed flowers or other

performance and all relevant elements while organizational structure show the order and basis of this
image. The picture of Tarmac is a number of teams which contain enthusiast and skillful people. Each
of them engage with a suitable task and try to stand in higher place to achieve their own goal.
Furthermore, all teams focus on a point which is Tarmac s vision. If we consider about the structure,

The Epic Tale Of How The Desolate West Became An...
Rivers of Empire tells the epic tale of how the desolate West became an irrigational Mecca for the
United States of America. Donald Worster begins his tale by describing how water irrigation has been
used throughout history and how those methods compared to the modern American Western usage. I
found Worster s text to be a very solid method of telling the history of water irrigation, but like with
many of the texts in this class, I am left with a very pessimistic feeling about the future of the subject.
Worster focuses a lot of attention early on in his text on Karl Wittfogel and his theory of hydraulic
societies. Wittfogel argues essentially that he who controls the water has the power. I tend to agree
with this argument because of the history that Worster presents in his texts. Ancient states used the
labor power of the corvee, unpaid labor maintaining the early irrigation systems that the state s
controlled, in a feudal manner to control the masses (40). The state would leave these peasant s too
weak to fight against the system, but just strong enough to keep the water flowing (41). Wittfogel
would live long enough to refute his own ideology, but not long enough to stand behind it.
We see this usage of these hydraulic societies carried out in the modern American west, though few
would dare call them such. A powerful few step into power, with the promise of wealth and prosperity
for all, only to deliver larger wealth for themselves and a corrupt labor and land

Implications Of Fiar Cut Adverts And Laser Cut Polipulations
Because each insert contained a different amount of fibers, the fiber mass at each time point was
converted to a percentage of the original fiber mass. As expected, the data shows a decrease in fiber
mass for both scissor cut inserts and laser cut inserts. Overall, the scissor cut inserts had a greater loss
than the inserts cut by the laser. Laser cutting had the greatest effected on the adhesion of polystyrene
to a polystyrene base. Polystyrene fibers were light and thin and often gets attracted to anything that
comes within a centimeter of it. Laser cutting helped contain the fibers on the insert. From the ten
second point on, there was significant difference between the fiber mass remaining on the inserts (p ≤

Our inserts are an integral part of the modular system. Therefore, the fiber coated inserts need to be
reliable. It is in our best interest to make sure the fibers, to which the cells are attached, adhere to the
insert despite the many transitions from Petri dish to analytical device to further investigation. Laser
cutting provides many advantages to cutting inserts. Hundreds of inserts can be cut in minutes. The
reproducibility is inimitable; each piece can be exactly the same size. The idea that the laser would
also fuse the layer of fibers into place would be a considerable advantage. This data and SEM images
support the idea that laser cutting sinters the fibers to the insert. SEM images show polystyrene fibers
melted into the polystyrene perimeter. As the laser blasts through the polystyrene base, it plows the
malleable polymer in both directions perpendicular to the cut. The result is a raised perimeter around,
and a thin connection between, the inserts. The inserts were imaged at an angle to investigate the
interface of fibers and raised edge. At a 30° to normal and 300x magnification, the smooth raised
border can be seen. The fibers spread underneath, but where the fibers extend on the underside of the
border, there are bumps. At the very least, we can say the fibers are tucked underneath the polystyrene
border, which would increase the adherence, but further inference would lead us to

No-Shows And Nobodies Research Paper
Nerds, No Shows, and Nobodies In any classroom of any school, there are always three types of
students. A seating plan can easily reveal each type of student: sitting in the front row are the nose
picking Nerds, in the back row are the napping No Shows, and in the middle row, sit the neglected
nobodies. These classes of students may seem stereotypical, but they are as accurate as a Nerd s math
calculations. To start off, these students race to the front seats on the first day, are always raising their
hands in class (because they know everything), and carry collections of tissues, which are sometimes
already used, for their frequent and almost daily nose bleeds. This description could only refer to the
Nerds. Nerds are the classic overachieving, comic book reading, geeks. They may seem to know
everything in class, but Nerds are extremely awkward when it comes to socializing, unless it s a comic
book convention. If they are not solving quadratic equations for their own amusement, they can most
definitely be found digging their noses, while playing Minecraft. Nerds are also very clumsy and
uncoordinated. They may be able to calculate the rate of acceleration as a basketball is thrown into a
net, but they sure cannot shoot one. To continue, Nerds are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A Lot Of People See Gun Control In Every Way, Shape And
A lot of people see gun control in every way, shape and form as taking a bit of our freedom away.
Others do not have an issue with gun control. Gun control is an issue of safety, education, race, and
politics. Most gun owning Americans believe that just because certain people do not know how to use
their freedom of having control over their own guns does not mean everyone else should have their
freedom of gun control and ownership taken away by liberal politicians, most who have not even
owned or shot a gun in their whole entire life. The Second Amendment of the United States
Constitutions says that the people have the right to bear arms and it is not to be infringed. There is a
reason why it is in the Bill of Rights and there is also a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, when a person is going to commit a crime upon someone they might think twice about
what they are going to do, because they have no idea if that person is carrying a gun or not. The
United States has become very restrictive when granting a person to own guns. Certain states have
come up with the Shall Issue law, which prevents anyone to own, or carry firearms if that person has a
criminal record with a felony or has a mental disorder. Many states even require a permit to carry a
concealed gun in public.
Most people learn about responsibility during their childhood and what they learn reflects what they
do and how they act when they get older and become adults. Children that live in a good household
tend to have better understandings of life and respect other people and their lives. Children would also
have a better idea of recreation, for example hunting, and for a mean of protection from criminals. On
the other hand, the children who grow up in problematic homes and that have uncaring parents, who
are usually criminals themselves, tend to turn to crime. They are just doing what they believe is right,
since that is how they were raised. So, we need to educate children about the potential dangers of
firearms if they are not respected and treated with care.
Most Americans who believe that more guns equal more crime are afraid of the people who carry guns
in public places, open

Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf And Merlin
In a 1967 essay, J. R. R. Tolkien said he saw Gandalf as an angelic being, given the form of an old
man to limit his powers on earth. He would never say the same of Merlin. While Tolkien drew much
inspiration from Arthurian legend, especially Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf and
Merlin are very different characters. Merlin is a man, one whose role in much of Arthurian legend is as
a loyal servant of the Kings of Camelot, willing to do anything to help them. He also rarely performs
serious acts of magic. Gandalf, on the other hand, is a warrior mage, an immortal being sent to protect
the people of Middle Earth. He displays a powerful use of magic as well, and unlike Merlin, rallies the
people of Middle Earth to his cause and gives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Uther, whom Merlin serves, falls in love with Igraine, the wife of a neighboring duke, but the
duke refuses to allow Uther to have her, and Igraine is too loyal a woman to willingly commit
adultery. So, Merlin devises a plan, telling Uther, this night ye shall lie with Igraine . . . and ye shall be
like the duke her husband, Ulfias will be like Sir Brastias . . . and I will be like Sir Jordanus (Le
Morte, 5). Merlin had disguised the men so well that they took on the appearance of other people,
enough that Igraine believed Uthor was her husband. Merlin s greatest feats usually involve
shapeshifting and disguise, as well as perhaps prophecy. After Merlin comes to Arthur in the guise of a
child, and then an old man, to tell him about his parentage, he says, But I ever ought to be heavy, for I
shall die a shameful death, to be put in the earth quick, and ye shall die a worshipful death (Le Morte,
23). This foreshadows Merlin s death at the hands of his protégé Nineve, and Arthur s death at the end
of the book, and illustrates that Merlin has some knowledge of the events in the future. He
demonstrates this once again after subduing Sir Pellinore, when he tells Arthur, And he shall tell you
the name of your own son begotten of your sister that shall be the destruction of all this realm (Le
Morte, 29). Through his powers of foresight, Merlin can pinpoint what will bring about the end of
Camelot. Gandalf, although immortal and powerful, rarely shows these powers of foresight. The
future in Lord of the Rings is something that cannot be known, only fought

Grade Geography Class
It was Wednesday as ordinary as any other day in my seventh grade geography class. The lull of
midweek was upon us, featuring drooping eyes and nodding heads. Most students were hardly paying
attention, but I, the nerd, was scribbling down notes on the Po River in Northern Italy. I didn t expect
February 13th, 2013 to be extraordinary. I didn t expect it to jolt me awake or be a day I that would
remember forever. That all changed with a few short words. Hushed giggles, the scratching of pencils
and pens, and the droning voice of my teacher filled the classroom. We endured lessons taught by the
uncool history teacher Mrs. Elder. My classmates and I envied our peers. Across the hall, they enjoyed
class with daily shenanigans, games, and free food, which they never forgot to mention to us. We were
less fortunate. Our teacher barely knew the material, was a stickler for perfect coloring on the
countless maps we drew, and would randomly rub our shoulders. Once, she showed us an
informational video reviewing curse words and gestures in foreign languages; those were probably the
most interesting things we learned all year. I sat at my ice cold desk trying to pay attention the bland
lesson, when my heart skipped a beat. My ears will never forget that voice on the intercom. Mr. Green,
to the office, a seemingly harmless announcement. But to the students at Dakota, it s a well known
code. We were just told that our school was on lock down. It s just a drill, I thought. The

The Improvised Explosive Device ( Ied ) Essay
Winston Churchill said, You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have
tried everything else .1 Three years after field commanders requested Mine Resistant Ambush
Protected (MRAP) vehicles the Pentagon approved the request and asked Congress to pay the bill.2
The defeat of Saddam Hussein by Coalition Forces created a growing insurgency in Iraq from the
summer of 2003 through the surge of U.S. Forces in 2008. The improvised explosive device (IED), the
insurgent s choice weapon, was responsible for 50 80% of U.S. deaths from 2005 through 2008.3 A
CNN poll conducted in March 2003 showed 72% of Americans supported the war in Iraq and 3 years
later only half that number, 36%, of Americans supported the war in Iraq.4 Public support for the war
diminished as deaths increased while U.S. Forces conducted non kinetic operations focused on
rebuilding Iraq. Also during this time, Congress began to ask the Pentagon why they could not defeat
the IED threat.
Despite mounting Congressional pressure, the Pentagon was not prepared to procure MRAPs under a
normal acquisition process. Ultimately, Secretary Gates made the rapid acquisition of the MRAP his
number one priority.5 This essay will highlight three factors that made the MRAP acquisition program
different from a normal acquisition. First, Congress and Secretary Gates, called for immediate MRAP
procurement. Next, MRAP procurement was unexpected as the Pentagon planned to be in and out of
Iraq quickly.

Out Of The Dust Character Analysis
The novel Out of the Dust, by Karen Hesse is a story that teaches great lessons and a story could have

them. They also had a lot of dust that ruined their crops and what they all had, which also meant they
couldn t do anything about it because they had little and not a lot to thrive off of. Here are a few
examples of how she had a very unpleasant life. Billie Jo and her mother got burned very badly from a

Television Impact On The Television Industry
The television industry is growing, with so many genres to explore, and varying age groups producers
can target, there is always a show to watch. In western cultures the hours spent watching television has
drastically increased with the television market opens up the potential of more variety. This escalation
of television attraction has affected the way young people interact with each other. Television has
transformed the concepts of identity and commonalities among peers. To understand whether this
transformation is a good or bad, a study was done looking at the effects watching one show has on a
group of people. The study included five people, three females, and two males, all of whom are
currently watching The Vampire Dairies (TVD) based on the novels by L. J. Smith, starring Ian
Somerhalder, Paul Welsey, and Nina Dobrev. Two females who had been watching it in the past but
have sense ceased were also included in this study, in order to get the fuller picture. The accounts all
shared how the experience of watching television among young adults at the Canadian Mennonite
University has had a positive impact on their friendships. The first major theme I found during this
study was the perception everyone had about what television meant to him or her and how that
reflected how he or she defined community. No matter if it was the previews that caught their
attention, or he or she had free time to spare, or him or he had heard from friends that it was a decent

The Dominion of New England: In 1686, the British government combined the colonies of
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Connecticut into a single province to become a big
royal colony lead by a royal governor Andros Charters. Charters self rule were revoked, and the king
enforced mercantile laws. The new setup also made for more efficient administration of English
Navigation Laws, as well as a better defense system. The significance of the dominion of New
England was that it put New England on the map, to become more recognized and brought forth more

Comparing Evil in Emerson, Hawthorne, and Melville Essay
Lionel Trilling once said, A proper sense of evil is surely an attribute of a great writer. (98 99)
Although he made the remark in a different context, one would naturally associate Hawthorne and
Melville with the comment, while Emerson s might be one of the last names to mind. For the modern
reader, who is often in the habit of assuming that the most profound and incisive apprehension of
reality is a sense of tragedy, Emerson seems to have lost his grip. He has often been charged with a
lack of vision of evil and tragedy. Yeats, for example, felt that Whitman and Emerson have begun to
seem superficial, precisely because they lack the Vision of Evil (qtd. in Matthiessen 181).
There is no doubt that Emerson was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are Chaos and the Dark, but man can soar over them by unfurling beautiful wings and become
an angel of wisdom. (Emerson, American Scholar 1083). It is a duty of Man Thinking to guide men by
showing the facts amidst appearances and accepting poverty and solitude. He can and should convert a
mulberry leaf into satin and sometimes evil itself can be a guide for good; Drudgery, calamity,
exasperation, want, are instructors in eloquence and wisdom. ( American Scholar 1082) Moral and
natural evil appear in experience but they are not ultimate realities, only relative and transitory.
But Emerson s belief and reality often clashed head on with each other. Emerson knew the ideal often
exists only in thought and lived by and large only in the mind. In his later essay Experience, his doubt
is conveyed quite clearly. In this essay he wanted to reaffirm the hope of humanity and presumably he
didn t intend to express such a feeling as frustration, but it is certainly there. The essay opens with a
tone of bewilderment:
Where do we find ourselves? In a series of which we do not know the extremes, and believe that it has
none. We wake and find ourselves on a stair, there are stairs below us, which we seem to have
ascended; there are stairs above us, many a one, which go upward and out of sight. But the Genius

The Main Structural Components Of The Respiratory System
Respiratory system
The main structural components of the respiratory system consists of the nasal cavity and the pharynx
then lower in the body there is the larynx, trachea and the lungs when you move lower into the body
there is the bronchi and the bronchioles, then at the bottom of the body there is the alveoli and the
diaphragm.
Nasal Cavity Is a hollow space in the nose and skull that has lots of mucus on the membrane. The
function of the nasal cavity is to warm, moisturise and filter the air entering the body, before it reaches
the lungs.
Trachea Is normally called the windpipe. The Pharynx and larynx are also located along the trachea.
The main function of the trachea is the air to and from the lungs. The Trachea is located at the base of
the neck and in the body s middle line.
Lungs Is to process gas exchange called respiration. Oxygen from the Trachea comes in and enters the
blood and a waste of gas, which is the result of metabolism. The lungs also help us get rid of carbon
dioxide as we breathe it out.
Alveoli Gas Exchange occurs here.

Religious Authority And The Protestant Reformation
During the sixteenth century, numerous conditions and beliefs existed that cause the Protestant
Reformation. It was a religious, political, cultural and logical disturbance that had made some
Europeans split from the Catholic Church. In northern and central Europe, reformers [such as John
Calvin, Henry VIII and most importantly Martin Luther] challenged papal authority and questioned
the Catholic Church s ability to define Christian practice. The tension between the reformers and the
church triggered wars, persecutions and the Counter Reformation, also called the Catholic
Reformation. Augustine had emphasized that the bible is more a fundamental source for religious
authority than the Bible is. He also believed that humans could not reach salvation by their own act,
but only God could give salvation by his divine grace. Throughout the Middle Ages, the Catholic
Church taught that salvation was achievable through works of righteousness that made God pleased.
Martin Luther, born in the year 1483 in Thuringia (Saxony), which is what is now the country of
Germany, began to have doubts about the theological basis for much of the daily practices of the
Catholic Church. In other words, he questioned and wondered if the Catholic leaders teachings were
acceptable to the Catholic religion. He shared his two central beliefs with Augustine, which would
later form the basis of Protestantism. Meanwhile, the Catholic Church s practice of allowing
indulgences to offer absolution to

Race As A Social Construct
Race as a social construct refers to a group that is socially and culturally defined on the basis of
physical criteria. During European colonisation, Europeans came into contact with people from
different areas of the world and after speculating the physical, cultural and social differences between
the groups; these groups were placed in races. By defining racial classifications, racism ensues.
Racism is discriminating, exerting prejudice and or power over a group or individual based on the
belief that an individual s group is superior to another. Shadism is dependant upon the existence of
Racism. Shadism refers to the amount of melanin in a person s skin, which is used to define a persons
worth within that racial category.
Shadism and Racism are both a large part in Hollywood and the casting process.
There has been a recent concentration online on institutional racism in Hollywood; social media
movements have brought attention towards, the casting process and the lack of diversity at the Oscars.
The persistent snubbing of people of colour (POC) in Hollywood is being recognised. However, has
this changed the representation of POC in films?
The upcoming biography, drama, Nina (2016) has been the centre of much controversy and has
consequently, brought about conversations regarding shadism and blackface. In the trailer for the film,

Construct Developed in Psychometrics to Determine...
The g factor, or general factor , is a construct developed in psychometrics to determine cognitive
abilities. It is a variable that summarizes positive correlations among various cognitive tasks, which
demonstrate an individual s performance at one type of cognitive task tends to be comparable to his or
her performance at other kinds of cognitive tasks. The g factor typically accounts for 40 to 50 percent
of the variance in IQ test performance, and IQ scores are frequently regarded as estimates of an
individual s g factor rating (Kamphaus et al. 2005). The terms IQ, general intelligence, general
cognitive ability, general mental ability, or simply intelligence, are often used interchangeably to refer

These include the Wason selection task, computerized games governed by difficult rules, pragmatic
reasoning schemes, analogical reasoning tasks, class inclusion, scientific reasoning tasks, and
categorization tasks. These factors explain why non verbal tests are often referred to as culture free,
and almost necessary for easing assimilation.
Acquiring relevant background knowledge which will be closely associated with social class is
important in psychometric tests, in addition to non cognitive sources. Jensen seems to be unaware or
at least avoid potential stressful effects relating to negative social evaluation and systematic prejudice,
which many children experience every day. Superficial factors like dialect, facial appearance, and self
presentation all play major roles. These have significant effects on the way we see and evaluate
ourselves. Bandura et al (1996) have shown how limited confidence in cognitive based tests acquired
by parents are inherited by their children, resulting in fear and apathy in many intellectual tasks. Here,
g is not a general ability variable, rather it s a measure of intellectual self esteem.
Limited exposure to middle class cultural tools and low cognitive self esteem will, undoubtedly, lessen
one s self confidence, and cause anxiety in testing situations. There is a well known association
between IQ test performance and test anxiety. In his meta analysis of 562 studies, Hembree (1988)
found that subjects who feel

The character of Manus is rather more complicated than that of Hugh and our perception of him

loyalty towards his father and perhaps is an indication of Irish faithfulness compared to English
disloyalty; disloyalty which is seen when Yolland explains that his father got him a job but he missed
the boat and, not being able to return home and face him, joined the army. Yolland also shows
disloyalty to his own country and language when he decides that there is no English equivalent for a

for his capacity to embrace other cultures. We also respect Manus for his sense of duty and loyalty

Automobiles
The invention of the automobile in the early 20th century has had an adverse affect on our
environment. Our society has used technology in order to advance the automobile to make it better
and more efficient. The automobile industry knows what sells and they take advantage of that. With
this growing technology to advance automobiles also comes flaws. The biggest and most obvious flaw
is pollution. Because of pollution, we find ourselves asking the question of whether this technology
has helped our society more than it has hurt it. Automobiles are the cause of 60 percent of our air
pollution today (Dewees 214). There are four main sources in which pollution comes from an

What really happens is that there are hydrocarbon atoms left over from the combustion process
because they did not burn properly or at all. Another pollutant that is given off by automobiles along
with hydrocarbons is carbon monoxide. This too is also a result of the incomplete process of the
combustion of fuel. Carbon monoxide is emitted directly from the tailpipe. There are specific times
when this is common, when your car does not get enough air during starting and it chokes, when cars
are not tuned properly, during cold weather the level of carbon monoxide being emitted increases due
to more fuel to start the car, and also at high altitudes. The office of Mobile Sources did a study in
1992 which showed that carbon monoxide levels exceeded the Federal air quality standard in 20 U.S.
cities . Some other pollutants besides hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide that are given off are
nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides. These nitrogen oxides are given off by the high pressure in the
automobiles engine where nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air react and then form the nitrogen
oxide. All of these pollutants effect the environment and people in a negative way. Next we will take a
look at what exactly these pollutants do to us. The most dangerous and widespread of all pollutants are
hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons emitted by automobiles create smog, which in turn acts as a ground level

Before I started reading I knew what I signed up for. A lot of math, science and complicated stuff that
sometimes makes my head hurt. Nonetheless A Brief History of Time is about the history of science,
history of how the universe began and how the journey of finding the theory for everything has been

theory, general relativity, quantum mechanics, imaginary time, string theory and many more. He also
mentions the belief that people have that god created the universe, that God created everything.

A Greek astronomer named Ptolemy agreed with Aristotle theory and made a model that provided a
decent accurate system for predicting the places where heavenly bodies in the sky were located. His
model was accepted and adopted generally. But then a simpler model made by a Polish priest,
Nicholas Copernicus was suggested. His idea was that the sun was still at the center and that the earth
and the planets moved in circular orbits around the sun. Two astronomers took this idea seriously
Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei and they started publicly supporting the Copernican theory. The
death of the Aristotelian/Ptolemaic theory came in 1609 when Galileo started to look at the sky with a
telescope. When he looked at Jupiter he saw that it was by a lot of small satellites or moon that orbited
around it. Johannes then changed Copernicus s theory a bit by suggesting that the planets move in
ellipses instead of circles. An explanation came when Isaac Newton published his Philosophiae
Naturalis Principia mathematica in 1687. In it he provided a theory of how bodies move in space and
time. He also made the complicated mathematics needed to analyze those motions. Then questions
were raised like whether the universe had a beginning in time and whether it is limited in space.
Edwin Hubble in 1929 made an observation that the galaxies are moving rapidly away from us like the
universe is expanding. Then he thought that the universe was really close

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Financial Leverage
Introduction
Investment on securities such as shares, debentures, bonds are profitable as well as exciting. It is
indeed rewarding but involves a great deal of risk. Shapiro (2006) describes the emergence and growth
of the market for derivative instruments can be traced back to the willingness of risk averse economic
agents to guard themselves against uncertainties arising out of fluctuations in asset prices. Kawaller,
the President of Kawaller Company, LLC and Managing Director of the Kawaller Fund in Brooklyn,

So a company should maintain a high level of interest coverage ratio (ICR) in order to meet its debt
obligations. A positive sign is expected between ICR and derivatives usage.
Liquidity
Nance et al. also argue that firms can reduce the expected financial distress and agency costs
associated with long term debt by maintaining greater short term liquidity. The variable used as proxy
for a firm s short term liquidity is the quick ratio. The quick ratio, a variant of the current ratio,
measures a firm s ability to repay short term operating liabilities with readily available cash.
Underinvestment
Myers (1977), Smith and Watts (1992) have found that firm value depends on the future opportunities.
If there are lots of investment opportunities available to the firms, it seems that this firm has the
capability to generate more cash flow to the firm and to the shareholders. Consequently, this will be
reflected in the stock price. So, the value of a firm having much more investment opportunities will be
higher compared with the one of a firm with limited set of investment opportunities, which is
supported by the result form Allayannis (2001). As an indicator of investment opportunities for the
company, PPE, the ratio of a firm s capital expenditures for property, plant, and equipment to total
assets and R D is the ratio

Alternative Solutions: In such a situation, since the bad economic environment, it is not possible to
keep the original structure to fit its culture. One possible method to solve this problem is to collect
continuous customers feedback and to subdivide the feedback by different departments. The culture of
Cisco is to keep paying attention to the customers, no matter the amount of resource. But the new
structure made the whole resources of the company useless to satisfy customers. Thus, a good way to
know what customers need is to collect the feedback from them. In the article How to Change a
Culture: Lessons from NUMMI, the author told us that those of us trying to change our organizations
culture need to define the things we want to do, the ways we want to behave .iv By collecting the
feedback of customers, each Cisco s employee could be clarified of what they need to do to satisfy the
customers.
To make the feedback effective, Cisco should pay attention to two aspects. One aspect is to look for
attitudes of the customers. Unlike the common survey of other companies, Cisco should constantly to
collect the data and feedback from new customers. By this method, Cisco could have the newest
tendency of the customers need. The other aspect should relate to the employees of Cisco. Just as in

An Evaluation On A Global Textbook
An Evaluation on a Global Textbook to Promote Indonesian Students Speaking Fluency
1. Introduction
There is undebatable fact that teaching materials plays a crucial role in defining a success and failure

can be used to facilitate learning of a language. In Indonesian context, although there are many
materials available, it is textbook that both teachers and students find it difficult to live without

Moreover, although globally published textbooks tend to receive negative attention by making locally
produce materials a stepchild in its own home (Zacharias 2005), many teachers still prefer to use
them. Among those global textbooks available, Life series claim to bring a new light in ELT textbook
market. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the suitability of Life for intermediate level to

The essay is divided into fifth sections. The first section of the essay discusses the way speaking skills
is taught in Indonesia, especially the issue that hinder Indonesian students from developing good
speaking skills. Explanation on the role of textbooks in promoting speaking fluency comes second and
followed by the description of the research methodology. This section of the essay concerns on the
reason behind the textbook selection and how evaluation process was carried out by using Littlejohn s
(2011) framework of textbook analysis. The next section of the essay describes the finding from the

Propaganda In The War
Americans have been carried through life by the use of propaganda since mere existence. The most
widespread use of propaganda is through a war. World War 1 proves this between the United States
and other countries. As the United States tried to remain neutral to the thought of war, American
Journalists appealed to Britain s technique of propaganda in joining sides. This interest outset a war
with Germany and the Triple Alliance, World War 1. In the early 1900s as the United States tried to
keep neutral and isolated from other countries ideas, Americans in the nation displayed an influence in
public opinion. For example, American Journalist George Creel, began the Kansas City Independent.
He was the head of the Committee of Public Information in 1917, created by President Woodrow
Wilson. The Committee was responsible for raising American support for the war effort ( War,

Common Genomic Variation Alone Cannot Account for Complex...
Since the first genome wide association study (GWAS) in 2005, it has become increasingly evident
that common genomic variation alone cannot account for complex traits (3). While GWAS have
helped understand certain traits and diseases, most studies have linked sequence variation to only 1.1
1.5 fold increase in risk (3 5). Pursuit of the missing heritability has taken the form of both utilization
of next generation sequencing to uncover rare variation and more recently, studies of epigenetic
regulation (4, 6).
Epigenetics stems from the observation that genotypically identical cells can exhibit alternative and
stably heritable phenotypes. These traits, along with the chromosomal mechanisms that produce them
and ensure their propagation without alterations in the primary DNA sequence, are referred to as
epigenetic. (7 9). Alternatively, regions in the genome where the epigenetic state varies and results in
alternative phenotypes are referred to as epialleles (10).
Epigenetic variation adds a regulatory layer to genome function (11). This environment dependent
regulation is implicated in many fundamental biological processes including developmental cell
differentiation (9), stem cell function, aging (12) and disease progression and relapse (11, 13 15).
Furthermore, understanding epigenetics paves the way for pharmaceutically targeting maladaptive
variation (13, 16, 17).
At a molecular level, epigenetics variation manifests itself in the way DNA is packaged in the

The Parable Of The Talents
The parable of the talents has a decent amount of debate in regards to the meaning. This parable is told
by Jesus in Matthew 25: 14 30, to convey a moral lesson. Although many people have different
beliefs, my opinion is that the parable represents opportunity, relationship, and the Kingdom of
Heaven.
Chapter 25 of Matthew is Jesus answering the disciple s questions regarding the destruction of the
temple, the sign of his return, and the end of the age. His answers are given to them in the three
parables, all acknowledging Jesus coming back in the future. The parable of the talents is told during
the Olivet discourse, given on the Mount of Olives. The discourse was an extended teaching given by
Jesus Christ. His subject [was] the end time. Jesus is telling the parable to his disciples, before his
upcoming resurrection. With that, it would make sense that Jesus has told these stories to the disciples
so that when he is killed, his word and lessons continue.
The parable of the talents is one parable within a series. It is important that while researching the
parable of the talents, other parables are analyzed in Matthew as well. Many themes throughout
Matthew are interconnected, especially the Kingdom of Heaven. The parable of the ten virgins
precedes the parable of the talents. In this story, the wise virgins who bring extra oil for their lamps
symbolize preparedness for Jesus return. After the parable of the talents, the story of the separation of
the goats and

Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances
2. Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances The probable cause plus exigent circumstances
exception to the search warrant requirement applies when the exigencies of the situation make the
needs of law enforcement so compelling that a warrantless search is objectively reasonable under the
Fourth Amendment. The state bears the burden of proving that the search falls under this exception.
The exception requires that an officer have probable cause and that the situation present exigent
circumstances. To have probable cause, there must exist a fair probability that the police will find
evidence of a crime. However, no amount of probable cause can justify a warrantless search or seizure
absent exigent circumstances. Whether a law enforcement officer was justified in acting in the absence
of a warrant depends on the totality of circumstances. The United States Supreme Court uses a careful
case by case approach to determine whether circumstances rose to the required level of exigency.
Recognized exigent circumstances that justify warrantless entry may include, but are not limited to:
entering to provide emergency aid to someone inside, pursuant to an immediate threat to officer safety,
in hot pursuit of a fleeing suspect, to put out a fire and investigate its cause, and to prevent the
imminent destruction of evidence of a serious crime. While circumstances that present the requisite
exigency to justify a warrantless search differ, in each

Copyright Law On The Planet
Only one thing is impossible for God: To find any sense in any copyright law on the planet (Mark
Twain). The concept of copyright in the United States has a large history. The first form of copyright
in the United States stems from Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution in the year
1787, where Congress shall have power . . . to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by
securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and
discoveries. These exclusive rights were originally extremely limited, as the first Copyright Act of
1790 only applied to maps, charts, and books. As time has advanced, copyright practices in the United
States have undergone several reforms, among the most recent being the infamous Digital Millennium
Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998. Said act updated United States law to the requirements of the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), such as placing limitations on the liability of online
service providers for copyright violations made by users. The act, however, has been a subject of
controversy in recent times, as some content creators abuse it to control access to their content. This is
accomplished through methods such as copyright trolling, in which the copyright holder produces
works solely for the purpose of litigation rather than distribution. Oftentimes, these practices are
thought to be a violation of fair use, which enables copyrighted work to be used without

Question 1a. Write a one page concise or two pages double spaced summary explaining the Federal
Reserve.
Basically, the Federal Reserve System is a banking system of the United States. It was created in
1913, with the enactment of the Federal reserve Act (2014). There are many responsibilities the
Federal Reserves has which include, supervision and regulation, monetary policy, payment services
and finally the financial stability. President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act, into a
law. There are also many events that led up to the signing of the Federal Reserve Act that stuck out to
me.
The money and banking systems weren t the same in Colonial America. Colonial banks were not
allowed to accept deposits from the public or make loans. Instead, they issued paper currency backed
by metals and goals. Colonists were also limited to using bartering, European coinage as their primary
means of exchange. The legislation created a uniform national currency and permitted only nationally
chartered banks to issue bank notes (2014).
There was a period of a free banking era. There was a huge need for a reliable banking system during
the civil war. Many banks did not keep enough money on hand to meet the normal demands. People
lost their confidence in the banks and then began to go take their money out. This triggered a
succession of bank failures. The Federal Reserve System had a severe financial crisis, in

  • 2. Freud s Worst Nightmare Perfect Sex Dream Brendan Gosse Cynthia Miller Making Monsters October 9, 2014 Freud s Worst Nightmare Perfect Sex Dream In her article, author Barbra Creed discusses a wide range of theories and assumptions on Freud and his relation to modern cinema, memories, and the development of the original horror film. She begins by describing Freud and his obsession with horror. She briefly mentions some of his case histories that entail themes of sexual abuse, hysteria, bestiality, phobias, and perversity, but primarily continues to inform us of his hatred of cinema. Considering Freud was born in 1856, he was just reaching his mid 50 s when early cinema really took off. Films and movies became the forefront of entertainment, the must see attraction by audiences across the country, and the newest daring art form. This was, however, an art form that Sir Sigmund Freud wanted nothing to do with. Despite having several films be inspired by his theories and writings, Freud refused to become involved with films and filmmaking, and even avoided being captured on camera in his daughter s home videos. The reason for this hatred however, is neglected and left questionable by Creed. The author points out that early cinema was known for stretching the boundaries on narrative filmmaking by incorporating elements of sex, desire, and eroticism, which were, of course, main focuses of Freud s countless writings. She continues her analysis by efficiently describing the modern self and the divided self: two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Privatization of Russian Industries For some, the privatization of Russian industry has been one of the great success stories of Russia s painful economic transition: quick, firm and radical action was taken to shift the great bulk of Russian industry out of state hands, thereby laying the basis for a radical restructuring of enterprises and improvements in their performance. Others see privatization as a best a failure, at worst a catastrophe. Not surprisingly those opposed to the market and economic reform as a whole share this view. But many commentators who see themselves as supporters of reform find plenty in Russian privatization to criticize: the process led to the transfer of ownership to inappropriate people and as a consequence no beneficial restructuring of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Collective ownership derives either from a natural alliance between managers and rank and file employees, probably based on Soviet traditions of paternalism and the ‘social contract , or from the need of managers to pander to workers who control a majority of voting rights at shareholder meetings. Although some observers might find a collective ownership outcome desirable, on the grounds that it provides for workplace democracy and high incentive work habits, reform oriented commentators generally find it a form of ownership likely to lead to the maintenance of excessively high levels of underemployed staff and an over concentration on consumption at the expense of investment. The management ownership outcome derives from the ability of management to totally dominate divided, demoralized or indifferent rank and file employees. The argument that they do so by bribing employees with promises of secure employment and the maintenance of social welfare provisions is essentially the same as that presented in the previous paragraph on collective ownership. However, there is an increasing awareness among commentators that any Soviet paternalism and coincidence of management worker interests that might have once existed have not survived the rigors of the transition and the self interest of managers. As A.S. Bim puts it: Given serious ‘positional differences between managers and other employees, it seemed reasonable as early as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Attitude And Death Of Ancient Greece Attitude to Death. Greek Background: Ancient Greece was a civilization that existed from the 8th 6th Century BC, also called the Archaic Period, to the end of antiquity, around 600 AD. It is most famous for its philosophers, artwork and mythology. They worshiped their deities such as Zeus, Hades and Poseidon.... Their major demise came at the hands of the Macedonians in 338 BC after Greece had been weakened by the Peloponnesian War. A war between the Spartans and the Athenians leaving the Spartans victorious but exhausted of their resources and men. Attitude to Dying: Death for the Greeks was not such a simple process. Seeing as they believed so firmly in the afterlife death was not really feared, rather life was cherished. As shown by this quote. I d rather be a day laborer on earth working for a man of little property than lord of all the hosts of the dead. Achilles in the Iliad. Upon death the psyche or soul left the body as a little breath or puff of wind. The body would then undergo a time honored burial ritual. The ritual was split into two parts. The prothesis, the laying out of the body. The ekphora, the funeral procession. And the interment of the body or cremated remains of the deceased. During this process the ancient Greeks placed coins in the deceased s mouth and tied a strap around the head and jaw to keep it closed. These coins served as the toll for the ferry across the river Styx. During this time, people viewed the body and placed flowers or other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Epic Tale Of How The Desolate West Became An... Rivers of Empire tells the epic tale of how the desolate West became an irrigational Mecca for the United States of America. Donald Worster begins his tale by describing how water irrigation has been used throughout history and how those methods compared to the modern American Western usage. I found Worster s text to be a very solid method of telling the history of water irrigation, but like with many of the texts in this class, I am left with a very pessimistic feeling about the future of the subject. Worster focuses a lot of attention early on in his text on Karl Wittfogel and his theory of hydraulic societies. Wittfogel argues essentially that he who controls the water has the power. I tend to agree with this argument because of the history that Worster presents in his texts. Ancient states used the labor power of the corvee, unpaid labor maintaining the early irrigation systems that the state s controlled, in a feudal manner to control the masses (40). The state would leave these peasant s too weak to fight against the system, but just strong enough to keep the water flowing (41). Wittfogel would live long enough to refute his own ideology, but not long enough to stand behind it. We see this usage of these hydraulic societies carried out in the modern American west, though few would dare call them such. A powerful few step into power, with the promise of wealth and prosperity for all, only to deliver larger wealth for themselves and a corrupt labor and land ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Implications Of Fiar Cut Adverts And Laser Cut Polipulations Because each insert contained a different amount of fibers, the fiber mass at each time point was converted to a percentage of the original fiber mass. As expected, the data shows a decrease in fiber mass for both scissor cut inserts and laser cut inserts. Overall, the scissor cut inserts had a greater loss than the inserts cut by the laser. Laser cutting had the greatest effected on the adhesion of polystyrene to a polystyrene base. Polystyrene fibers were light and thin and often gets attracted to anything that comes within a centimeter of it. Laser cutting helped contain the fibers on the insert. From the ten second point on, there was significant difference between the fiber mass remaining on the inserts (p ≤ 0.0179). After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our inserts are an integral part of the modular system. Therefore, the fiber coated inserts need to be reliable. It is in our best interest to make sure the fibers, to which the cells are attached, adhere to the insert despite the many transitions from Petri dish to analytical device to further investigation. Laser cutting provides many advantages to cutting inserts. Hundreds of inserts can be cut in minutes. The reproducibility is inimitable; each piece can be exactly the same size. The idea that the laser would also fuse the layer of fibers into place would be a considerable advantage. This data and SEM images support the idea that laser cutting sinters the fibers to the insert. SEM images show polystyrene fibers melted into the polystyrene perimeter. As the laser blasts through the polystyrene base, it plows the malleable polymer in both directions perpendicular to the cut. The result is a raised perimeter around, and a thin connection between, the inserts. The inserts were imaged at an angle to investigate the interface of fibers and raised edge. At a 30° to normal and 300x magnification, the smooth raised border can be seen. The fibers spread underneath, but where the fibers extend on the underside of the border, there are bumps. At the very least, we can say the fibers are tucked underneath the polystyrene border, which would increase the adherence, but further inference would lead us to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. No-Shows And Nobodies Research Paper Nerds, No Shows, and Nobodies In any classroom of any school, there are always three types of students. A seating plan can easily reveal each type of student: sitting in the front row are the nose picking Nerds, in the back row are the napping No Shows, and in the middle row, sit the neglected nobodies. These classes of students may seem stereotypical, but they are as accurate as a Nerd s math calculations. To start off, these students race to the front seats on the first day, are always raising their hands in class (because they know everything), and carry collections of tissues, which are sometimes already used, for their frequent and almost daily nose bleeds. This description could only refer to the Nerds. Nerds are the classic overachieving, comic book reading, geeks. They may seem to know everything in class, but Nerds are extremely awkward when it comes to socializing, unless it s a comic book convention. If they are not solving quadratic equations for their own amusement, they can most definitely be found digging their noses, while playing Minecraft. Nerds are also very clumsy and uncoordinated. Others do not have an issue with gun control. Gun control is an issue of safety, education, race, and politics. Most gun owning Americans believe that just because certain people do not know how to use their freedom of having control over their own guns does not mean everyone else should have their freedom of gun control and ownership taken away by liberal politicians, most who have not even owned or shot a gun in their whole entire life. Therefore, when a person is going to commit a crime upon someone they might think twice about what they are going to do, because they have no idea if that person is carrying a gun or not. The United States has become very restrictive when granting a person to own guns. Certain states have come up with the Shall Issue law, which prevents anyone to own, or carry firearms if that person has a criminal record with a felony or has a mental disorder. Many states even require a permit to carry a concealed gun in public. Most people learn about responsibility during their childhood and what they learn reflects what they do and how they act when they get older and become adults. Children that live in a good household tend to have better understandings of life and respect other people and their lives. Children would also have a better idea of recreation, for example hunting, and for a mean of protection from criminals. On the other hand, the children who grow up in problematic homes and that have uncaring parents, who are usually criminals themselves, tend to turn to crime. They are just doing what they believe is right, since that is how they were raised. So, we need to educate children about the potential dangers of firearms if they are not respected and treated with care. • 11. Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf And Merlin In a 1967 essay, J. R. R. Tolkien said he saw Gandalf as an angelic being, given the form of an old man to limit his powers on earth. He would never say the same of Merlin. While Tolkien drew much inspiration from Arthurian legend, especially Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte Darthur, Gandalf and Merlin are very different characters. Merlin is a man, one whose role in much of Arthurian legend is as a loyal servant of the Kings of Camelot, willing to do anything to help them. He also rarely performs serious acts of magic. King Uther, whom Merlin serves, falls in love with Igraine, the wife of a neighboring duke, but the duke refuses to allow Uther to have her, and Igraine is too loyal a woman to willingly commit adultery. So, Merlin devises a plan, telling Uther, this night ye shall lie with Igraine . . . and ye shall be like the duke her husband, Ulfias will be like Sir Brastias . . . and I will be like Sir Jordanus (Le Morte, 5). Merlin had disguised the men so well that they took on the appearance of other people, enough that Igraine believed Uthor was her husband. Merlin s greatest feats usually involve shapeshifting and disguise, as well as perhaps prophecy. After Merlin comes to Arthur in the guise of a child, and then an old man, to tell him about his parentage, he says, But I ever ought to be heavy, for I shall die a shameful death, to be put in the earth quick, and ye shall die a worshipful death (Le Morte, 23). This foreshadows Merlin s death at the hands of his protégé Nineve, and Arthur s death at the end of the book, and illustrates that Merlin has some knowledge of the events in the future. He demonstrates this once again after subduing Sir Pellinore, when he tells Arthur, And he shall tell you the name of your own son begotten of your sister that shall be the destruction of all this realm (Le Morte, 29). Through his powers of foresight, Merlin can pinpoint what will bring about the end of Camelot. Gandalf, although immortal and powerful, rarely shows these powers of foresight. • 12. Grade Geography Class It was Wednesday as ordinary as any other day in my seventh grade geography class. The lull of midweek was upon us, featuring drooping eyes and nodding heads. Most students were hardly paying attention, but I, the nerd, was scribbling down notes on the Po River in Northern Italy. I didn t expect February 13th, 2013 to be extraordinary. I didn t expect it to jolt me awake or be a day I that would remember forever. That all changed with a few short words. Hushed giggles, the scratching of pencils and pens, and the droning voice of my teacher filled the classroom. We endured lessons taught by the uncool history teacher Mrs. Elder. My classmates and I envied our peers. Across the hall, they enjoyed class with daily shenanigans, games, and free food, which they never forgot to mention to us. We were less fortunate. Our teacher barely knew the material, was a stickler for perfect coloring on the countless maps we drew, and would randomly rub our shoulders. Once, she showed us an informational video reviewing curse words and gestures in foreign languages; those were probably the most interesting things we learned all year. I sat at my ice cold desk trying to pay attention the bland lesson, when my heart skipped a beat. My ears will never forget that voice on the intercom. The Improvised Explosive Device ( Ied ) Essay Winston Churchill said, You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have tried everything else .1 Three years after field commanders requested Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles the Pentagon approved the request and asked Congress to pay the bill.2 The defeat of Saddam Hussein by Coalition Forces created a growing insurgency in Iraq from the summer of 2003 through the surge of U.S. Forces in 2008. The improvised explosive device (IED), the insurgent s choice weapon, was responsible for 50 80% of U.S. deaths from 2005 through 2008.3 A CNN poll conducted in March 2003 showed 72% of Americans supported the war in Iraq and 3 years later only half that number, 36%, of Americans supported the war in Iraq.4 Public support for the war diminished as deaths increased while U.S. Forces conducted non kinetic operations focused on rebuilding Iraq. Also during this time, Congress began to ask the Pentagon why they could not defeat the IED threat. Despite mounting Congressional pressure, the Pentagon was not prepared to procure MRAPs under a normal acquisition process. Ultimately, Secretary Gates made the rapid acquisition of the MRAP his number one priority.5 This essay will highlight three factors that made the MRAP acquisition program different from a normal acquisition. The study included five people, three females, and two males, all of whom are currently watching The Vampire Dairies (TVD) based on the novels by L. J. Smith, starring Ian Somerhalder, Paul Welsey, and Nina Dobrev. Two females who had been watching it in the past but have sense ceased were also included in this study, in order to get the fuller picture. The accounts all shared how the experience of watching television among young adults at the Canadian Mennonite University has had a positive impact on their friendships. The first major theme I found during this study was the perception everyone had about what television meant to him or her and how that reflected how he or she defined community. No matter if it was the previews that caught their attention, or he or she had free time to spare, or him or he had heard from friends that it was a decent show, they ... • 22. Comparing Evil in Emerson, Hawthorne, and Melville Essay Lionel Trilling once said, A proper sense of evil is surely an attribute of a great writer. (98 99) Although he made the remark in a different context, one would naturally associate Hawthorne and Melville with the comment, while Emerson s might be one of the last names to mind. For the modern reader, who is often in the habit of assuming that the most profound and incisive apprehension of reality is a sense of tragedy, Emerson seems to have lost his grip. He has often been charged with a lack of vision of evil and tragedy. Yeats, for example, felt that Whitman and Emerson have begun to seem superficial, precisely because they lack the Vision of Evil (qtd. in Matthiessen 181). There is no doubt that Emerson was ... • 24. Religious Authority And The Protestant Reformation During the sixteenth century, numerous conditions and beliefs existed that cause the Protestant Reformation. It was a religious, political, cultural and logical disturbance that had made some Europeans split from the Catholic Church. In northern and central Europe, reformers [such as John Calvin, Henry VIII and most importantly Martin Luther] challenged papal authority and questioned the Catholic Church s ability to define Christian practice. The tension between the reformers and the church triggered wars, persecutions and the Counter Reformation, also called the Catholic Reformation. Augustine had emphasized that the bible is more a fundamental source for religious authority than the Bible is. He also believed that humans could not reach salvation by their own act, but only God could give salvation by his divine grace. Throughout the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church taught that salvation was achievable through works of righteousness that made God pleased. Martin Luther, born in the year 1483 in Thuringia (Saxony), which is what is now the country of Germany, began to have doubts about the theological basis for much of the daily practices of the Catholic Church. In other words, he questioned and wondered if the Catholic leaders teachings were acceptable to the Catholic religion. Another pollutant that is given off by automobiles along with hydrocarbons is carbon monoxide. This too is also a result of the incomplete process of the combustion of fuel. Carbon monoxide is emitted directly from the tailpipe. There are specific times when this is common, when your car does not get enough air during starting and it chokes, when cars are not tuned properly, during cold weather the level of carbon monoxide being emitted increases due to more fuel to start the car, and also at high altitudes. The office of Mobile Sources did a study in 1992 which showed that carbon monoxide levels exceeded the Federal air quality standard in 20 U.S. cities . Some other pollutants besides hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide that are given off are nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxides. These nitrogen oxides are given off by the high pressure in the automobiles engine where nitrogen and oxygen atoms in the air react and then form the nitrogen oxide. All of these pollutants effect the environment and people in a negative way. Next we will take a look at what exactly these pollutants do to us. A Greek astronomer named Ptolemy agreed with Aristotle theory and made a model that provided a decent accurate system for predicting the places where heavenly bodies in the sky were located. His model was accepted and adopted generally. But then a simpler model made by a Polish priest, Nicholas Copernicus was suggested. His idea was that the sun was still at the center and that the earth and the planets moved in circular orbits around the sun. Two astronomers took this idea seriously Johannes Kepler and Galileo Galilei and they started publicly supporting the Copernican theory. The death of the Aristotelian/Ptolemaic theory came in 1609 when Galileo started to look at the sky with a telescope. When he looked at Jupiter he saw that it was by a lot of small satellites or moon that orbited around it. Johannes then changed Copernicus s theory a bit by suggesting that the planets move in ellipses instead of circles. An explanation came when Isaac Newton published his Philosophiae Naturalis Principia mathematica in 1687. In it he provided a theory of how bodies move in space and time. He also made the complicated mathematics needed to analyze those motions. Then questions were raised like whether the universe had a beginning in time and whether it is limited in space. The freedom of speech plants a seed filled with ideas and allows the thinker to put those thoughts and ideas out into the world for others to deliberate. When these roots take hold, they become movements, broadcasts and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Common Genomic Variation Alone Cannot Account for Complex... Since the first genome wide association study (GWAS) in 2005, it has become increasingly evident that common genomic variation alone cannot account for complex traits (3). While GWAS have helped understand certain traits and diseases, most studies have linked sequence variation to only 1.1 1.5 fold increase in risk (3 5). Pursuit of the missing heritability has taken the form of both utilization of next generation sequencing to uncover rare variation and more recently, studies of epigenetic regulation (4, 6). Epigenetics stems from the observation that genotypically identical cells can exhibit alternative and stably heritable phenotypes. These traits, along with the chromosomal mechanisms that produce them and ensure their propagation without alterations in the primary DNA sequence, are referred to as epigenetic. (7 9). Alternatively, regions in the genome where the epigenetic state varies and results in alternative phenotypes are referred to as epialleles (10). Epigenetic variation adds a regulatory layer to genome function (11). This environment dependent regulation is implicated in many fundamental biological processes including developmental cell differentiation (9), stem cell function, aging (12) and disease progression and relapse (11, 13 15). Furthermore, understanding epigenetics paves the way for pharmaceutically targeting maladaptive variation (13, 16, 17). At a molecular level, epigenetics variation manifests itself in the way DNA is packaged in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Parable Of The Talents The parable of the talents has a decent amount of debate in regards to the meaning. This parable is told by Jesus in Matthew 25: 14 30, to convey a moral lesson. Although many people have different beliefs, my opinion is that the parable represents opportunity, relationship, and the Kingdom of Heaven. Chapter 25 of Matthew is Jesus answering the disciple s questions regarding the destruction of the temple, the sign of his return, and the end of the age. His answers are given to them in the three parables, all acknowledging Jesus coming back in the future. The parable of the talents is told during the Olivet discourse, given on the Mount of Olives. The discourse was an extended teaching given by Jesus Christ. His subject [was] the end time. Jesus is telling the parable to his disciples, before his upcoming resurrection. With that, it would make sense that Jesus has told these stories to the disciples so that when he is killed, his word and lessons continue. The parable of the talents is one parable within a series. It is important that while researching the parable of the talents, other parables are analyzed in Matthew as well. Many themes throughout Matthew are interconnected, especially the Kingdom of Heaven. The parable of the ten virgins precedes the parable of the talents. In this story, the wise virgins who bring extra oil for their lamps symbolize preparedness for Jesus return. After the parable of the talents, the story of the separation of the goats and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances 2. Probable Cause Plus Exigent Circumstances The probable cause plus exigent circumstances exception to the search warrant requirement applies when the exigencies of the situation make the needs of law enforcement so compelling that a warrantless search is objectively reasonable under the Fourth Amendment. The state bears the burden of proving that the search falls under this exception. The exception requires that an officer have probable cause and that the situation present exigent circumstances. To have probable cause, there must exist a fair probability that the police will find evidence of a crime. However, no amount of probable cause can justify a warrantless search or seizure absent exigent circumstances. Whether a law enforcement officer was justified in acting in the absence of a warrant depends on the totality of circumstances. The United States Supreme Court uses a careful case by case approach to determine whether circumstances rose to the required level of exigency. Recognized exigent circumstances that justify warrantless entry may include, but are not limited to: entering to provide emergency aid to someone inside, pursuant to an immediate threat to officer safety, in hot pursuit of a fleeing suspect, to put out a fire and investigate its cause, and to prevent the imminent destruction of evidence of a serious crime. While circumstances that present the requisite exigency to justify a warrantless search differ, in each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Copyright Law On The Planet Only one thing is impossible for God: To find any sense in any copyright law on the planet (Mark Twain). The concept of copyright in the United States has a large history. The first form of copyright in the United States stems from Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution in the year 1787, where Congress shall have power . . . to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries. These exclusive rights were originally extremely limited, as the first Copyright Act of 1790 only applied to maps, charts, and books. As time has advanced, copyright practices in the United States have undergone several reforms, among the most recent being the infamous Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of 1998. Said act updated United States law to the requirements of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), such as placing limitations on the liability of online service providers for copyright violations made by users. The act, however, has been a subject of controversy in recent times, as some content creators abuse it to control access to their content. This is accomplished through methods such as copyright trolling, in which the copyright holder produces works solely for the purpose of litigation rather than distribution. Oftentimes, these practices are thought to be a violation of fair use, which enables copyrighted work to be used without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Write a one page concise or two pages double spaced summary explaining the Federal Reserve. Basically, the Federal Reserve System is a banking system of the United States. It was created in 1913, with the enactment of the Federal reserve Act (2014). There are many responsibilities the Federal Reserves has which include, supervision and regulation, monetary policy, payment services and finally the financial stability. President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act, into a law. There are also many events that led up to the signing of the Federal Reserve Act that stuck out to me. The money and banking systems weren t the same in Colonial America. Colonial banks were not allowed to accept deposits from the public or make loans. Instead, they issued paper currency backed by metals and goals. Colonists were also limited to using bartering, European coinage as their primary means of exchange. The legislation created a uniform national currency and permitted only nationally chartered banks to issue bank notes (2014). There was a period of a free banking era. There was a huge need for a reliable banking system during the civil war. Many banks did not keep enough money on hand to meet the normal demands. People lost their confidence in the banks and then began to go take their money out. This triggered a succession of bank failures. The Federal Reserve System had a severe financial crisis, in ...
