Barbargo Act Research Paper
I believe that Thomas Jefferson moved us closer to the nation we set out to be with the Embargo Act
because it helped us progress towards providing for the common defense. During this time France and
Britain were at war but Jefferson wanted to stay neutral with them and continue trade, but when
Britain passed the Order Of Council which states that all ships trading with France had to first pull up
in the British port, pay a duty, and get a license Napoleon Bonaparte, the emperor of France was
angered by this and decided to retaliate and pass the Milan Decree which stated that any ship that
stopped in compliance with the Order Of Council would be treated as a British ship and subjected to
seizure. Jefferson then passed the Embargo Act which stopped Americans from trading with foreign
countries until it was safe. As a result, our ships weren t in danger of being taken by the ... Show more

The Tripolitan War was a war with the Barbary Pirates when they continually attacked our ships and
took our sailors for hostages even after we paid tribute from George Washington s time to Jefferson s
time. Jefferson started this war because even after paying the tribute there was still no peace, the
Barbary Pirates increased their demands and kept attacking our ships this continued until the tribute
was more than 20 percent our annual revenue. The war moved us closer to providing for the common
defense because during that time we kept getting attacked and our citizens were being taken hostage
so instead of continuing this cycle, Jefferson took the initiative and attacked Tripoli. In conclusion, the

The Work Of Nina Simone
Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon, February 21, 1933 in North Carolina. The sixth of
eight children, she began playing the piano at the age of three and showed extreme talent for classical
music. Due to the poverty of her family, her mother worked as a maid. Nina showed her talent to her
mother s employer, who recognized her great ability and started a fund to pay for Nina s piano lessons
and early education. When she was twelve she performed a classical piano recital. Her parents had
taken two front seats to proudly watch their daughter, but were forced to move to the back row in
favor of the white attendants of the concert. Nina refused to play a single note until her parents
regained their seats. She later cited this incident as one of the main reasons she became a Civil Rights
activist.
After high school, she was given a partial scholarship to Julliard School in New York City. She left
Julliard, due to lack of funds, began to play jazz and blues, and made ends meet playing in night clubs.
Shortly after, she took on the stage name Nina Simone. She was able to release her first album, Little
Blue Girl , in 1958. With this album she was able to gain influential African Americans, like Langston
Hughes and James Baldwin, as fans of her work.
Civil Rights Songstress:

In the 1960s Nina Simone was known as the leading voice, or musician, of the Civil Rights
movement. After the assassination of Civil Rights leader and activist Medgar Evers and

The Federal Estate Tax Should Be Abolished
Over the past few months, the federal estate tax has been a popular topic in the news. Also known as
the death tax, this tax is applied to the transfer of an estate at passing away of an individual. Generally,
said estate includes all assets of the person who passed away, including financial assets like stocks,
bonds, and mutual funds; real assets, like houses, land, or other tangible property; and proceeds from
life insurance policies. The United States federal government established the estate tax that is
currently implemented in 1916. Since then, the estate tax was phased out in 2001, so that the rates
dropped until eliminated in 2010. However, this legislation was not lasting, and the estate tax returned
in 2011.
The estate tax that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This tax is only creating more pain at a time when our country should be supporting its citizens who
provide jobs and help boost the economy.
Since the inception of our great country, American families have worked hard their whole lives to
make the money to support their families and pass a legacy down to their future generations. This hard
work is built into the framework of our country. We say that we encourage the citizens to be self made
and work hard because both these actions will pay off. How can we truly be promoting success if our
tax code is working directly against our hard working citizens? In fact, the estate tax is actually a
double tax: income taxes must be paid on earnings that eventually make up the estate s value (Wood).
In 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that the double taxation that the state of Maryland was imposing on
its citizens was unconstitutional (Brown). Our government needs to be taking the proper steps to
eradicate all forms of double taxation, as it is certainly not fair to the people, the people for whom the
Constitution was created to protect.
Another key fact that must be pointed out is the amount of revenue, or lack thereof, that this estate tax
makes for the federal government. In 2014 alone, our federal government made over $3 trillion. Of
that massive number, the estate tax counted for $19.3 billion, or a mere 0.6

Corn Ethanol Controversy And The Chemical Formula Of Ethanol
Corn Ethanol Controversy!
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH) is a clear, colorless liquid. It is also known as ethyl alcohol, EtOH, and grain
alcohol. Ethanol is widely produced by processing grains such as corn or starch and sugar crops. The
grain is first milled, then fermented with yeast and different enzymes to turn the grain s starches into
alcohol(EPA). A distillation process then increases the ethanol concentrations, basically the same
process a whiskey maker would use to make whiskey. Of course, law mandates that a denaturant is
added, making the liquid unsafe for drinking. In the process, waste grain is produced and sold as farm
animal feed. Bioethanol, can be made from many types of trees and grasses, but the procedure is much
harder. The chemical formula of ethanol is the same whether it is made from starch and sugar based
feedstocks, such as corn grain (widely used in United States), sugar cane (Brazil), or from cellulosic
feedstocks (such as wood chips or crop residues). (The Alternative Fuels Data Center)
In the United States, ethanol is primarily used as a blending element in the production of gas and as an
alternative fuel. More than 95% of the gasoline sold in the United States contains ethanol. Most of
ethanol blending into U.S. motor gasoline occurs to meet the requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act
(RFG Fuel) and the Renewable Fuel Standard set forth in the Energy Independence and Security Act
of 2007. (U.S Energy Information Administration)

Theoretical Approaches To Sociology
The first section of the course develops an understanding of sociology and emphasizes the use of
sociological imagination and sociological perspective to question the obvious in order to recognize the
opportunities and constraints in our lives through the connection of personal aspects of an individual s
life to social and historical influences. The three main theoretical approaches (Structural Functionalist,
Conflict, Symbolic Interaction) were discussed during the lecture and were applied to analyze sports.
Sociological methods were also studied to help distinguish common myths, based on anecdotal
evidence and correlating data that is affected by other factors that are not considered in the research,
from facts supported by scientific evidence. The three research orientations used by sociologists are
positivist sociology, interpretative sociology and critical sociology. Positivist sociology conducts
quantitative research such as surveys, experiments and statistical data to demonstrate a cause and
effect relationship. Interpretive sociology conducts qualitative research and focuses on subjective
realities and tries to understand what people do and why they do it. Critical sociology disagrees with
the common idea that society has a natural order and focuses on the need for social change.
Furthermore, the course discusses the concept of social stratification, which refers to a division of
society into 2 or more hierarchically ordered groups. In this section, the differences between caste and
class is clarified. Caste is hereditary and there is little or no mobility. On the contrary, there is some
mobility in the class system, where an individual s status is defined by income, education and work.
The distinction between race and ethnicity is established during the lecture. Contrary to the common
myth, race is not biology and is just based on physical traits. It is relatively fluid and changes over
time through interracial marriage. In Portraits of White Racism, David Wellman makes the distinction
between prejudice and racism by redefining racism as the system of advantage based on race.
Ethnicity categorizes people based on shared culture, heritage, language, religion, family, household
structure, preferences

The Critique Of POTUS By Nanny Green
The critique for POTUS by Nanny Green is not fair because the president does not make all of the
decisions. The point of the constitution was to keep the power out of one person. The power is shared
across three branches, not just the president. We don t pay high taxes because the president wants us
to. We pay taxes so we can be provided services such as healthcare, schooling, parks, military,
transportation, etc. If anything, the congress is the one who collects the taxes, not the president. Also,
the president is not the one who declares war. That is also the congress. Lastly, the president is not the
one who writes and creates the bills. All he does is either approve or veto the bill before it becomes a
law. The bill has to go through a

The Importance Of Physical Beauty In The Renaissance Era
Society s perception of love changes constantly. As a result, poems of different time periods have
different perceptions of love and beauty. Ben Jonson s A Vision of Beauty and Samuel Daniel s But
love whilst that thou mayst be loved again reflect the importance of physical beauty in love during the
Renaissance Era. In the Victorian Period, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt s I See You Juliet and Robert
Browning s A Face continue to reflect society s fascination with female beauty in both a positive and
negative way. In the Modern Period, a shift occurs in both marriage and love with a greater emphasis
on true love and inner beauty. William Butler Yeats When You Are Old and Edna St. Vincent Millay s

In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to find
love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower: the fairest
flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they find her flower,
her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men view beauty in love. No
one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he or she looks towards other
flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an admiration for his subject s beauty,
but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty deteriorates, no one will love her. This
poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty because it reminds women that they will never
find love without external beauty, as a result of the superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the
Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection and the importance of physical beauty in love and
relationships. Victorian era poets continue to propound the importance of superficial beauty. During
this era, there was a continual belief in lust and sexual desires, evident in the rampant disloyalty that
husbands showed their wives (Hughes). Wilfrid Scawen Blunt depicts this continual fascination of lust
and beauty in his poem, I See You Juliet . The

DTH Satellite TV: Timelines to the Future While today s hot DTH marketplace makes for an exciting
story, this is an industry with a history unknown to most. It is a story of an industry which was never
supposed to exist. An industry born out of the genius of a Stanford University college professor and
publicized by ham radio conversations. An industry that defied all odds to grow from the backyards of
techies and early adapters to today s multi billion dollar first line competitor to the cable monopoly in
America. And, it is the story of an industry comprised of thousands of entrepreneurs who kept the

How did the world find out about Taylor Howard s invention? Well, as an amateur radio operator, he
shared his knowledge with fellow hams around the world. This was backed up with a simple how to
manual on satellite TV published by Professor Howard. As the techies began to grasp the capabilities
of satellite TV, a small group of entrepreneurs moved from hobbyist to businessperson. These pioneers
many operating out of their garages gave birth to an industry which sold approximately 5,000 systems
in 1980. Each of these systems, boasting an antenna 12 feet or more in diameter, fetched a whopping
$10,000. The journey towards the DTH industry of today had begun. 1981 1985 Dish Fever Grows
The DTH industry grew quickly from its modest beginnings. As each new system was installed, the
word of mouth advertising grew for the industry. Obviously the early DTH systems were very large,
thus the simple act of having one installed drew the attention and interest of the neighborhood. Once
non dishowners experienced the diversity of satellite delivered programming (new cable services were
now launching at a rapid pace) coupled with the unsurpassed audio and video quality offered by a
DTH system, the fever began to spread across the land. For satellite TV to move beyond the techies
and early adapters, into the mainstream consumer marketplace, three things

Conflict In John Updike s A P
You ll feel this for the rest of your life, Lengel says, and I know that s true, too. A P is a short story by
author John Updike. The story is simple, exquisitely put together, and fantastically detailed. It is told
from the character Sammy s point of view. It is set in the A P supermarket. Basically what happens is,
these three girls come into the store wearing only bathing suits, which presents the conflict. Sammy
describes them and follows their movements around the store. He gives them names including, Plaid,
Big Tall Goony Goony, and Queenie. He took a particular liking to Queenie. When the manager
Lengel took notice and began to berate the girls for their attire, which presents the crisis, Sammy didn
t appreciate it (for he had started to feel somewhat responsible for them). He then quit his job, which
presents the climax, after the girls were scolded. Perhaps because he sincerely thought that treatment
was unfair or most likely to be seen as heroic. Sammy is used in this short story as a representation of
adolescence. He demonstrates all the qualities of growing up. Such as immaturity, rebellion, and
typical boy behavior. Sammy is nineteen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lengel at my place in the slot, checking the sheep through. His face was dark gray and his back stiff,
my stomach kind of fell as I felt how hard the world was going to be for me hereafter. The story gave
a description of Lengel and called the adults shopping as a metaphor. It gave a little insight as to what

Socrates The Apology Analysis
Socrates died after his attempt to persuade the Athenians by telling the truth during a time when
truthfulness was of little concern. I found unit 3 to be extremely interesting because I never knew
about the trial or death of Socrates. Socrates is known as the father of Greek Philosophy and was put
on trial by citizens of Athens in 399 399 B.C.E. for allegedly corrupting the youth and Impiety. Unit 3
allowed me to examine the trial and learn about the attitudes of people in Athens during this era. The
title of the dialogue I learned about was, The Apology. The Apology was dialogue written by Plato,
one of Socrates student s and admirers, in an attempt to defend Socrates reputation after his death. It is
a description of the speech that Socrates gave when he was on trial for the alleged crimes. Learning
about the trial of Socrates was interesting to me because it caused me to examine the way criminal
indictments has changed over the years. Nowadays, criminal indictments occur after someone has

Meletus simply told Socrates to appear in court before the King Archon for the charges of impiety, on
a certain date. During this appearance, a date was set for the preliminary hearing where the public
could attend (Criminal). This is dissimilar to the way criminal indictments are obtained today. In order
for a person to be criminally indicted these days, a prosecutor, not peers or citizens, must first present
the criminal case before a grand jury and there are no judges present. During this procedure, the
prosecutor can call upon witnesses and provide a probable cause for the indictment to move to a court
of law. Then the grand jury decides whether or not to allow the case to go to court (What is). Socrates
and Meletus was heard by the magistrate at his preliminary hearing, afterwards, the magistrate drew
up formal charges and set a court date for the trial to be publicly held

(Motavalli, 2010). Selling the older vehicles to the dealer or to another company/person would allow
us to offset some of the initial costs of the new vehicles. If some of the older vehicles are still in
working order and there are no major repairs needed, retrofitting the engines to meet the new
standards could also be an alternative. The cost of this is considerably lower than the purchase of a
new vehicle and it is still as effective. In researching the data, I discovered that the use of biodiesel is
an alternative fuel source as well. This fuel, a 20/80 mixture, does not require any type of retrofitting
of the engine. This product has the added ability of cleaning out the particles that have built up by the
use of using diesel fuel throughout the engine and fuel system. These particles are expelled via the
exhaust or fuel filter. The only cost that will incur would be the cost to replace the fuel filter during the
initial uses of the product until the entire system is clean. (Biodiesel facts, et. al, 2012) Another issue
that I found in my evaluation was the routing of the trucks. There seems to be a miscommunication in
the routing department with the inbound and outbound shipments. There is a system currently,
however those that are operating it do not properly communicate across the desk so to speak. With this
lack of communication between the inbound and outbound coordinators, the loads are not being

It is not clear whether or not the court would have stopped Ashley s parents from modifying her body
in the way they did. It seems likely that, at a minimum, the mastectomy would have been delayed until
it was clear that Ashley had in fact developed large uncomfortable breasts, something that was merely
speculative at the time of her surgery. It is certain, however, that imposition of limitations and process
in her case would have gone a long way toward reducing the risk that the procedures caused Ashley
more harm than any benefits they achieved. Obviously, time cannot be turned back for Ashley, but
future cases can and should be regulated more carefully (Ouellette, 2009). It has been more than five
years since the Ashley Treatment but the topic is still very much alive for a few reasons. One being,
that the treatment is still being given (at least 12 given so far in the U.S.), secondly because of the
legal issues raised and thirdly due to the moral issues it raises. In my opinion, the moral issues it raises
are enough to oppose the treatment in itself.
The justification behind the parents giving their daughter The Ashley Treatment were to improve her
the quality of life by keeping Ashley from suffering from menstrual pain, and enabling her to become
more mobile due to her lack of weight and height. This argument also states that the lives of the

The Insider Essay
In the movie The Insider, the story starts off with a producer from 60 minutes named Lowell Bergman
and a chemist for a a prominent tobacco company. Bergman feels that he has a big story to bring to the
public when Dr. Wigand refuses to talk to him about the company that he works for. Wigand s ethical
issue in this film is that he has to make a decision to either choose to do a special interview on 60
minutes regarding the addictive additives in Brown and Williamson tobacco or to keep quiet about the
whole matter. By choosing to disclose confidential information about his workings in the tobacco
company Wigand puts in jeopardy his livelihood and the future for him and his family. Wigand and his
family go through a series of stressors and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The harassment and threats brought Wigand to a breaking point and pushed him to the point to go off
the record. Wigand began to lose sight of where him and his family s future was heading and him and
his wife s rocky marriage didn t make matters any better and possibly was another major driving force
in his decision to break his confidentially agreement.
All of these problematic situations then eventually lead to Bergman compelled to blow the whistle as
well. Bergman decided to become a whistleblower because Bergman was a man of his word also he
valued his integrity and credibility, he wanted to continue to keep his word intact. Bergman also
showed great empathy for Wigand and his circumstances . Bergman knew Wigand was telling the
truth and he wanted him to be vindicated from what Wigand had put himself through but going public
and being hero in a sense. By Bergman deciding to go against his company as well this became a fight
that didn t just involve Dr. Wigand and Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. Bergman works
hard to defend his and Wigand s credibility by countering Brown and Williamson s malicious attempts
to discredit and disabled them. It s truly interesting that you can t even be safe for making a decision
to notify and possibly save lives. From this film I learned that taking into consideration your own
ethical judgement in your workplace or anywhere for the matter can be a risky decision , but knowing
the difference between right and wrong can make all the

Paul The Apostle Was A Very Godly Man One Of Many On Long
Paul the Apostle was a very godly man one of many on long list of godly people who spent their lives
serving God s purpose. Paul was the author of several epistles, writing out the words of God to the
people of the church. Have you ever wondered why Paul wrote out the epistle of Ephesians and the
effects that the letter had on the congregation in which he wrote too? In the book of Ephesians, it is
clearly shown that the Apostle Paul is the indeed the author of the Epistle of Ephesians. Paul s epistles

Distance Education Means Online Education
To most people in the 21st century, distance education means online education, the use of the Internet
to create a computer based learning connection between instructor and student (Larreamendy Joerns
Leinhardt, 2006). In today s increasingly technological world, nearly 70% of top academic leaders
agree that online learning is part of the academic world s future, and as of 2013, nearly 1/3 of higher
education students were enrolled in an online course (Kentnor, 2015). Although distance education s
rapid evolution began alongside the growth of technology in the late 1990s, the history of distance
learning goes back much farther than modern technology.
First distance learning
The first educational occurrence that can be viewed as distance learning occurred in the 18th century.
Caleb Phillips took out an advertisement in the Boston Gazette that offered shorthand lessons. Phillips
s idea was to send lessons via the Postal Service, which some view not as actual distance education
because a lack of two way communication. Regardless, the basic principle of distance learning was
present (Kentnor, 2015). As cited in Kentnor (2015), according to Verduin and Clark (1991), the first
real distance educator was Issac Pitman, who taught shorthand by correspondence via mailed
postcards in 1840. Students mailed their work back to Pitman, thus establishing the first true distance
education. This method continued from the 19th to the early 20th century, as desire for a college

Essay about Two Suits, Two Dresses, or One of Each
How can denying two people of the same sex the right to have a marriage be considered
constitutional? Why is our country taking away rights of people because they want to be with
someone of the same gender? Gay and lesbian couples have been denied their right to marry for some
time now. Same sex couples should be allowed to express and celebrate their commitment to a partner
the same way a heterosexual couple does, as well as obtain the same benefits. Our country is not a

This means the government cannot enact laws that prevent marriage between individuals of a certain
sexual orientation. If marriage is considered a civil liberty, then the 14th amendment should stop the
government from making laws that prohibit civil liberties based on a person s choice in a partner. . . .
Section 3 of DOMA violates the equal protection clause because it treats gay man and lesbians
differently on the basis of their sexual orientation (Hanna 30). If we continue to strike down laws like
DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which denied same sex couples the right to marry, we can fight
this controversy and help innocent people obtain a right that they were born with.
Some people may argue that marriage has always been defined as between one man and one woman
or that allowing gay marriage will weaken the institution of marriage. Extending to gays and lesbians
the right to marry would undermine traditional marriage, and therefore, governments have a valid
reason to maintain the traditional definition of it (Hanna 29). It is inaccurate to define marriage as
between one man and one woman because our world history is full of polygamy, concubines,
mistresses, and prostitution. Kings in the past had many women and this was considered normal, one
could say that the traditional marriage is the one that is not normal. We redefine things as the general

Performance Based Strategy
Performance based pay strategy is a variable pay system which is intended to increase employee
productivity by rewarding employees based on their performance rather than paying based on the time
that an employee spends at work (Wisegeek). Due to the fact that performance based employees have
a vested interest in the success of the company their productivity is likely to improve which can lead
to the need for fewer employees to maintain production levels leading to a reduction in labor costs to
the employer. Studies have shown that time based employees only produce 50 to 60 percent of the
output of performance based employees (Atchinson).
Performance based pay plans are becoming increasingly utilized by companies across all industries as
they try to improve their productivity while limiting their costs and remaining competitive. An
effective performance based plan allows an employer to distribute some of the financial risk and
rewards of the business to the employees. The employer can keep base pay compensation below the
market average while still offering employees the opportunity to make more money than what is
offered at the high end of the market pay range. This leaves the employer less vulnerable to
fluctuations in the economic environment by lowering the fixed cost of wages (Miller, 2011).
There are many ways to implement a performance based plan but all require that goals be set,

Reflective Essay About Physical Education
Physical education and health are the most essential classes because they are the only ones capable of
lengthening one s life through establishing habits of healthy living. Upon overhearing my high school
gym and health teacher state this, I began to consider how the statement relates to my identity as an
athlete. Also, I smiled and thought to myself, I can t wait to tell my mom what he just said! Now I can
support my love for gym class and dreadful attitude toward other courses. Throughout my life, the
term athletic consistently has been used to describe me. From the age of seven to thirteen, my brothers
and I attended a summer camp, called Crossroads. Incorporated within the eight hour day was snack
time, choice time, lunch time, a biblical lesson, song singing, small groups, and a sports session.
Before the day officially began, during choice time, and the sports session, I delighted in playing
sports and competing alongside peers and counselors. At the end of our last ever day of camp, the
counselors held an impromptu graduation where they handed out some awards and displayed their
gratitude for witnessing our growth and contributions over the years. Jake Veenstra , called out one of
the head counselors. Shocked and bashful, I slowly walked up to the stage confused by what I was
recognized for while my face quickly transformed into deeper tones of red. Eventually, I made it up to

Maya Case Study Essay
Having read and researched Maya s case study the first question I asked myself was, what is an
Adaptation within the human body? My understanding is that an adaptation within the body is the
long term physiological changes in response to frequent training, allowing the body to meet new
demands and help in the additional stresses that are placed on the body itself. In the case of Maya, I
have studied the chronic adaptations of Maya s muscular and cardiorespiratory system as a response to
her three months training and indeed her target goal to return to her preferred sport of tennis. I believe
that although Maya would be training in the correct way, playing tennis again as well as the exercise
regime she has designed would enable her to return to a good level of fitness, and the standard that she
had previously played. Maya s exercise regime would enable her to strengthen her requirement and
aspirations to play tennis again. Training exercises when lifting weights is a result of the learning ...

Maya s resting heart rate would also decrease as her training progresses due to the circulatory system
being more efficient. Accumulating lactic acid is much lower during higher levels of activity, due to
the circulatory system providing more oxygen resulting in the removal of waste products faster.
Arterial walls become more elasticated which allows greater tolerance of changes in blood pressure.
This would result in respiratory muscles (Diaphragm/intercostals) increasing in strength thus giving a
larger respiratory volume, which would allow more oxygen to be diffused into the blood flow (VO2
max). This effect on Maya s body would lead to an increase in the number and diameter of capillaries

Stereotypes In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart

Response 4.0 The novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a response to the European depiction
of Africans and African culture. Today, prejudice of cultures, or groups of people, is displayed in the
media on a daily basis. There has been efforts in the past several years to integrate culture and
diversity in many classrooms across the nation to generate awareness and acceptance. By
acknowledging the history of people and cultures from the past in literature readers are able to
submerge themselves to several engaging perspectives that trigger reconsideration of stereotypes.
Achebe s novel corrects European formed essentialism and offers readers an Afrocentric perspective.

Lord Brahm The Father Of Hindu Gods And God
Brahma, the father of Hindu gods and men, is depicted as the creator of the universe. He is the first
member of the Hindu Trinity and ruler of all. Brahma is acknowledged as the creator as he
periodically creates everything in the universe, periodically due to the Hindu cyclical belief of
everything being created for a certain period of time and destroyed only to be renewed in a new form
once again. Of the three greatest Hindu deities, Lord Brahma dominates the first position, that of the
creator. As creator of all things, Brahma must have people of his own flesh; the most significant one,
Goddess Saraswathy, consort and daughter of Brahma. Besides Saraswathy, there are four sages that
roam the universe as Brahma s first mind born creations and sons; Sanaka, Sanatana, Sananadana and
Sanatkumara. The four Kumaras were the only sons born out of Brahma s mind rather than his body
and were the only ones who refused his order to procreate, therefore devoted themselves to Vishnu
and celibacy. Brahma then went on to creating ten sons (Prajapatis) from his mind, who are
acknowledged as the fathers of the human race.
Lord Brahma s birth story is unique in its setting. He is said to have been born from Vishnu s navel
through the lotus flower. After the great flood, Vishnu summoned his creative powers and formed
earth in the shape of a lotus escalating from his navel. It is believed that Brahma developed from this
lotus, therefore having the lotus symbolize his birth. Brahma then

South Asian And Indian Societies
Long distance trades played a major role in economic, cultural and religious exchanges that took place
between major civilizations in Europe, Africa and Asia during the pre modern period. Chinese, West
Asian and Indian societies were the first ones to develop major transportation networks. A few
examples of such important trade routes are The Silk Route, The Trans Saharan Caravan Trade in
Africa and the maritime Spice Route. The Silk Road is the most famous trade network in the world
and its complex links across Eurasia is considered the first example of globalization. The network
exchanged not only commercial goods but also elements of civilization such as art, religion,
philosophy, technology and science therefore it was considered a cultural bridge between Asia and
Europe. The Silk Road (130 BCE to 1453 CE) consisted of links of trade routes of about 7000
kilometers, established during the Han Dynasty of China and it is considered the major economic
achievement of this Dynasty. The Han empire was constantly being threatened by the nomad tribe
Xiongnu from the North and at the time of emperor Wudi, it was decided that under the leadership of

What was the True Cause of the Peloponnesian War
There have been many reasons and debates on what was the true cause of the Peloponnesian War.
Thucydides describes the main reason for war somewhat accurately The real cause... The growth of
the power of Athens, and the alarm which this inspired in Lacedaemon, made war inevitable.
(Thucydides I.1.23). But, it was not Sparta that was alarmed but Corinth. The status quo of Greece
was interrupted by Athens rise to power. As a result, Sparta was pressured by many minor Greek city
states to restore the status quo. However, Sparta was still reluctant to go to war but, Corinth provided a
catalyst to take all of that pressure and convince Sparta to declare war on Athens. Ultimately, it was
Corinth that started the Peloponnesian War. After the end of the Persian War, Athens and Sparta each
had their own different foreign policies; Athens being more active in foreign affairs and Sparta being
very isolationist. With the siege of Sestos, a more decisive divergence began to appear between
Athenian and Peloponnesian aspirations; it became more pronounced...with offensive operations.
(Sealey 228). All of the people that suffered under the expansionist Athenians looked for help. Sparta
was the only one capable of providing that help but never actually gave any. With Sparta s
passiveness, they left themselves open to the criticisms that Corinth and others would give. When
Athens created the Delian League to protect themselves and other city states from barbarian threats, it

The grid organization of both grocery stores helped people easily find what they needed while
encouraging people to buy more items. The signage is also another factor that influence customers
wayfinding and shopping satisfaction. Festival food particularly had very good signage. Each different

with the type of items that were in each aisle. Similarly, Capitol Centre Market s aisle were also
labeled, however, the signage was minimal can make it difficult to find the product people needs. The
minimal signage, according to the customers we interviewed, was compensated by the fact that their
employees were helpful and knowledgeable about where things are. It is also important to keep in
mind that Festival Foods is a significantly larger grocery store than Capitol Centre Market so the
signage for the two different stores varied. Overall, most of the interviewees were easily able to find
the items they needed with the help of signs, organization, and employees.
The theory of Gibson s Affordances, a concept that refers to the idea that certain surfaces, substances

extremely relevant. For example, Festival Foods has tall vertical aisles in a store which encourages

The Red Lilies By Claude Monet
First and foremost I wanted to thank you for the opportunity you gave us by going to the Legion of
Honor, I have to be honest I didn t know what to expect exactly but I was truly amazed at the art work
we were able to tour and receive information on. It was truly a breath taking experience and I wanted
to thank you for that. While all the pieces we were able to encounter were amazing I was truly
memorized by two of the paintings, the first one was The Annunciation by Master of the Retable of
the Reyes Catholics which was Renaissance and Water Lilies by Claude Monet which was
impressionism. It was really hard to pick but I choose to write about the Water Lilies by Monet
because I had a connection with the piece and I went back to it about five times.
Impressionism art can be considered the first distinctly modern movement in painting, it was
developed in Paris in the 1860 s but wasn t first exhibited until 1874. Impressionist art turned away
from the fine finish and detail that artist during the same time aspired to create. Impressionist captured
or at least tried to capture momentary, and sensory effect of a scene. Impressionist didn t rely heavily
on realistic depictions of an object or scene, they loosed the brushwork and lightened their palettes to
include intense pure colors. They didn t follow the traditional linear perspective and clarity that
previous art forms depicted to lesser ones. Many critics during the time faulted the impressionist
paintings because of that

The Older Generation And Life Experiences In My Life
You can learn so much from the older generations. Their life experiences can teach you a lot and give
you some insight on this thing we call life. Generations interacting with each other can be very
beneficial to society today. Older generations can explain to the youth that everything in life won t go
the way you plan for it to, but that s okay. They can let them know to take the hand that life deals them
and make the best out of it. People from older generations can prove to you that no matter how many
curve balls life throw at you; you can still become successful. I was able to interview someone from
the baby boomer s generation and apply their life experiences to my lifespan course.
I have known Jeanetta Wrice all of my life, and I have gotten to know her in all aspects of her life. She
is able to juggle being a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend all while having a career and I loved
that about her. Growing up wasn t smooth for her, she had many bumps she had to overcome to
achieve her success. During the interview I was able to ask her questions about how she became
successful all while starting a family at a young age. Another question I had was about her
environment. Being that she lived in a rough neighborhood how did she stay on the right path and not
give in to peer pressure to drop out and etcetera. Throughout my middle school years, she started
going back to school so I was able to see how she divided her time between her family, job, and
school. As a girl who didn t grow up in the best environment either but still wanting to one day have a
career, a family, and become a business owne,r I wanted to see how she overcame her odds.
I first wanted to hear about Mrs. Wrice s childhood and what encouraged her to stay on the right path.

her older siblings did. Mrs. Wrice did most of her development according to Bandura s social learning

Nevertheless, Decartes doesn t concretely prove that we are dreaming. He doesn t have

Your heart muscle mass requires oxygen to make it through. A cardiac arrest occurs when the blood
circulation that brings oxygen to the heart muscle mass is significantly reduced or removed entirely

muscular tissue with blood flow could gradually end up being narrow from a build up of fat,
cholesterol as well as other elements that with each other are called cavity enducing plaque, this
occurs. This sluggish procedure is referred to as atherosclerosis. When a plaque in a heart artery

Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft’s Writing
Radicalism in Mary Wollstonecraft s Writing
(Which author is more radical for her day?) In the years of the late 1700 s and early 1800 s women s
rights were unheard of. Women didn t get a higher education like the men did. They would mostly
learn about etiquette and how to cook and clean. The father of the daughter would choose who she
would marry, it would always be based on money, and family tithes. Women were treated as property
and she was owned by her father and mother tells she was wedded, and then her husband would own
her. But in theses years is when women started to more or less rebel and come out with new and
radical ideas. In the article by Jone Lewis she states, Mary Wollstonecraft has been called the first

women had begun to get rights, but it was in fact true that they weren t as smart, the blame would be
put on her. In the article Colonial Times, the author states, During the 18th century, the women s role
and work was extremely difficult, exhausting, and society was unappreciative. This proves that
women worked hard from the start and if they could just get some more education they could be as
successful as men.
Overall, Mary Wollstonecraft put a huge impact on women s rights in the early 1800 s,

  • 4. The Work Of Nina Simone Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon, February 21, 1933 in North Carolina. The sixth of eight children, she began playing the piano at the age of three and showed extreme talent for classical music. Due to the poverty of her family, her mother worked as a maid. Nina showed her talent to her mother s employer, who recognized her great ability and started a fund to pay for Nina s piano lessons and early education. When she was twelve she performed a classical piano recital. Her parents had taken two front seats to proudly watch their daughter, but were forced to move to the back row in favor of the white attendants of the concert. Nina refused to play a single note until her parents regained their seats. She later cited this incident as one of the main reasons she became a Civil Rights activist. After high school, she was given a partial scholarship to Julliard School in New York City. She left Julliard, due to lack of funds, began to play jazz and blues, and made ends meet playing in night clubs. Shortly after, she took on the stage name Nina Simone. She was able to release her first album, Little Blue Girl , in 1958. With this album she was able to gain influential African Americans, like Langston Hughes and James Baldwin, as fans of her work. Civil Rights Songstress: Mississpi Goddam In the 1960s Nina Simone was known as the leading voice, or musician, of the Civil Rights movement. Also known as the death tax, this tax is applied to the transfer of an estate at passing away of an individual. Generally, said estate includes all assets of the person who passed away, including financial assets like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds; real assets, like houses, land, or other tangible property; and proceeds from life insurance policies. The United States federal government established the estate tax that is currently implemented in 1916. Since then, the estate tax was phased out in 2001, so that the rates dropped until eliminated in 2010. However, this legislation was not lasting, and the estate tax returned in 2011. This tax is only creating more pain at a time when our country should be supporting its citizens who provide jobs and help boost the economy. Since the inception of our great country, American families have worked hard their whole lives to make the money to support their families and pass a legacy down to their future generations. This hard work is built into the framework of our country. We say that we encourage the citizens to be self made and work hard because both these actions will pay off. How can we truly be promoting success if our tax code is working directly against our hard working citizens? In fact, the estate tax is actually a double tax: income taxes must be paid on earnings that eventually make up the estate s value (Wood). In 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that the double taxation that the state of Maryland was imposing on its citizens was unconstitutional (Brown). Our government needs to be taking the proper steps to eradicate all forms of double taxation, as it is certainly not fair to the people, the people for whom the Constitution was created to protect. Another key fact that must be pointed out is the amount of revenue, or lack thereof, that this estate tax makes for the federal government. In 2014 alone, our federal government made over $3 trillion. Of that massive number, the estate tax counted for $19.3 billion, or a mere 0.6 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Corn Ethanol Controversy And The Chemical Formula Of Ethanol Corn Ethanol Controversy! Ethanol (CH3CH2OH) is a clear, colorless liquid. It is also known as ethyl alcohol, EtOH, and grain alcohol. Ethanol is widely produced by processing grains such as corn or starch and sugar crops. The grain is first milled, then fermented with yeast and different enzymes to turn the grain s starches into alcohol(EPA). A distillation process then increases the ethanol concentrations, basically the same process a whiskey maker would use to make whiskey. Of course, law mandates that a denaturant is added, making the liquid unsafe for drinking. In the process, waste grain is produced and sold as farm animal feed. Bioethanol, can be made from many types of trees and grasses, but the procedure is much harder. The chemical formula of ethanol is the same whether it is made from starch and sugar based feedstocks, such as corn grain (widely used in United States), sugar cane (Brazil), or from cellulosic feedstocks (such as wood chips or crop residues). (The Alternative Fuels Data Center) In the United States, ethanol is primarily used as a blending element in the production of gas and as an alternative fuel. More than 95% of the gasoline sold in the United States contains ethanol. Most of ethanol blending into U.S. motor gasoline occurs to meet the requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act (RFG Fuel) and the Renewable Fuel Standard set forth in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. • 7. Theoretical Approaches To Sociology The first section of the course develops an understanding of sociology and emphasizes the use of sociological imagination and sociological perspective to question the obvious in order to recognize the opportunities and constraints in our lives through the connection of personal aspects of an individual s life to social and historical influences. The three main theoretical approaches (Structural Functionalist, Conflict, Symbolic Interaction) were discussed during the lecture and were applied to analyze sports. Sociological methods were also studied to help distinguish common myths, based on anecdotal evidence and correlating data that is affected by other factors that are not considered in the research, from facts supported by scientific evidence. The three research orientations used by sociologists are positivist sociology, interpretative sociology and critical sociology. Positivist sociology conducts quantitative research such as surveys, experiments and statistical data to demonstrate a cause and effect relationship. Interpretive sociology conducts qualitative research and focuses on subjective realities and tries to understand what people do and why they do it. Critical sociology disagrees with the common idea that society has a natural order and focuses on the need for social change. Furthermore, the course discusses the concept of social stratification, which refers to a division of society into 2 or more hierarchically ordered groups. In this section, the differences between caste and class is clarified. Caste is hereditary and there is little or no mobility. On the contrary, there is some mobility in the class system, where an individual s status is defined by income, education and work. The distinction between race and ethnicity is established during the lecture. Contrary to the common myth, race is not biology and is just based on physical traits. It is relatively fluid and changes over time through interracial marriage. In Portraits of White Racism, David Wellman makes the distinction between prejudice and racism by redefining racism as the system of advantage based on race. As a result, poems of different time periods have different perceptions of love and beauty. Ben Jonson s A Vision of Beauty and Samuel Daniel s But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again reflect the importance of physical beauty in love during the Renaissance Era. In the Victorian Period, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt s I See You Juliet and Robert Browning s A Face continue to reflect society s fascination with female beauty in both a positive and negative way. In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to find love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower: the fairest flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they find her flower, her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men view beauty in love. No one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he or she looks towards other flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an admiration for his subject s beauty, but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty deteriorates, no one will love her. This poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty because it reminds women that they will never find love without external beauty, as a result of the superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection and the importance of physical beauty in love and relationships. Victorian era poets continue to propound the importance of superficial beauty. During this era, there was a continual belief in lust and sexual desires, evident in the rampant disloyalty that husbands showed their wives (Hughes). The story is simple, exquisitely put together, and fantastically detailed. It is told from the character Sammy s point of view. It is set in the A P supermarket. Basically what happens is, these three girls come into the store wearing only bathing suits, which presents the conflict. Sammy describes them and follows their movements around the store. He gives them names including, Plaid, Big Tall Goony Goony, and Queenie. He took a particular liking to Queenie. When the manager Lengel took notice and began to berate the girls for their attire, which presents the crisis, Sammy didn t appreciate it (for he had started to feel somewhat responsible for them). He then quit his job, which presents the climax, after the girls were scolded. Perhaps because he sincerely thought that treatment was unfair or most likely to be seen as heroic. • 23. Distance Education Means Online Education To most people in the 21st century, distance education means online education, the use of the Internet to create a computer based learning connection between instructor and student (Larreamendy Joerns Leinhardt, 2006). In today s increasingly technological world, nearly 70% of top academic leaders agree that online learning is part of the academic world s future, and as of 2013, nearly 1/3 of higher education students were enrolled in an online course (Kentnor, 2015). Although distance education s rapid evolution began alongside the growth of technology in the late 1990s, the history of distance learning goes back much farther than modern technology. First distance learning The first educational occurrence that can be viewed as distance learning occurred in the 18th century. Caleb Phillips took out an advertisement in the Boston Gazette that offered shorthand lessons. Phillips s idea was to send lessons via the Postal Service, which some view not as actual distance education because a lack of two way communication. Why is our country taking away rights of people because they want to be with someone of the same gender? Gay and lesbian couples have been denied their right to marry for some time now. Same sex couples should be allowed to express and celebrate their commitment to a partner the same way a heterosexual couple does, as well as obtain the same benefits. This means the government cannot enact laws that prevent marriage between individuals of a certain sexual orientation. If marriage is considered a civil liberty, then the 14th amendment should stop the government from making laws that prohibit civil liberties based on a person s choice in a partner. . . . Section 3 of DOMA violates the equal protection clause because it treats gay man and lesbians differently on the basis of their sexual orientation (Hanna 30). If we continue to strike down laws like DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which denied same sex couples the right to marry, we can fight this controversy and help innocent people obtain a right that they were born with. Some people may argue that marriage has always been defined as between one man and one woman or that allowing gay marriage will weaken the institution of marriage. Extending to gays and lesbians the right to marry would undermine traditional marriage, and therefore, governments have a valid reason to maintain the traditional definition of it (Hanna 29). It is inaccurate to define marriage as between one man and one woman because our world history is full of polygamy, concubines, mistresses, and prostitution. Kings in the past had many women and this was considered normal, one could say that the traditional marriage is the one that is not normal. We redefine things as the general attitudes about them ... Performance Based Strategy Performance based pay strategy is a variable pay system which is intended to increase employee productivity by rewarding employees based on their performance rather than paying based on the time that an employee spends at work (Wisegeek). Due to the fact that performance based employees have a vested interest in the success of the company their productivity is likely to improve which can lead to the need for fewer employees to maintain production levels leading to a reduction in labor costs to the employer. Studies have shown that time based employees only produce 50 to 60 percent of the output of performance based employees (Atchinson). Performance based pay plans are becoming increasingly utilized by companies across all industries as they try to improve their productivity while limiting their costs and remaining competitive. An effective performance based plan allows an employer to distribute some of the financial risk and rewards of the business to the employees. The employer can keep base pay compensation below the market average while still offering employees the opportunity to make more money than what is offered at the high end of the market pay range. This leaves the employer less vulnerable to fluctuations in the economic environment by lowering the fixed cost of wages (Miller, 2011). There are many ways to implement a performance based plan but all require that goals be set,

Reflective Essay About Physical Education Physical education and health are the most essential classes because they are the only ones capable of lengthening one s life through establishing habits of healthy living. Upon overhearing my high school gym and health teacher state this, I began to consider how the statement relates to my identity as an athlete. Also, I smiled and thought to myself, I can t wait to tell my mom what he just said! Now I can support my love for gym class and dreadful attitude toward other courses. Throughout my life, the term athletic consistently has been used to describe me. From the age of seven to thirteen, my brothers and I attended a summer camp, called Crossroads. Incorporated within the eight hour day was snack time, choice time, lunch time, a biblical lesson, song singing, small groups, and a sports session. Before the day officially began, during choice time, and the sports session, I delighted in playing sports and competing alongside peers and counselors. At the end of our last ever day of camp, the counselors held an impromptu graduation where they handed out some awards and displayed their gratitude for witnessing our growth and contributions over the years. Jake Veenstra , called out one of the head counselors. • 29. Maya Case Study Essay Having read and researched Maya s case study the first question I asked myself was, what is an Adaptation within the human body? My understanding is that an adaptation within the body is the long term physiological changes in response to frequent training, allowing the body to meet new demands and help in the additional stresses that are placed on the body itself. In the case of Maya, I have studied the chronic adaptations of Maya s muscular and cardiorespiratory system as a response to her three months training and indeed her target goal to return to her preferred sport of tennis. I believe that although Maya would be training in the correct way, playing tennis again as well as the exercise regime she has designed would enable her to return to a good level of fitness, and the standard that she had previously played. Maya s exercise regime would enable her to strengthen her requirement and aspirations to play tennis again. Training exercises when lifting weights is a result of the learning ... Accumulating lactic acid is much lower during higher levels of activity, due to the circulatory system providing more oxygen resulting in the removal of waste products faster. This would result in respiratory muscles (Diaphragm/intercostals) increasing in strength thus giving a larger respiratory volume, which would allow more oxygen to be diffused into the blood flow (VO2 max). Stereotypes In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart Maya Wallace Professor Washburn English 160A 10 March, 2016 Response 4.0 The novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a response to the European depiction of Africans and African culture. Today, prejudice of cultures, or groups of people, is displayed in the media on a daily basis. There has been efforts in the past several years to integrate culture and diversity in many classrooms across the nation to generate awareness and acceptance. By acknowledging the history of people and cultures from the past in literature readers are able to submerge themselves to several engaging perspectives that trigger reconsideration of stereotypes. Achebe s novel corrects European formed essentialism and offers readers an Afrocentric perspective. The Igbo society has laws in place that govern the people s actions. Murder and acts of violence do not go unpunished. When a woman from Umuofia is killed in the market at Mbaino, the people of Mbaino must make retribution. When Okonkwo beats his wife during the Week of Peace, he must make sacrifices to the gods to atone for his wrongdoing. • 31. Lord Brahm The Father Of Hindu Gods And God Brahma, the father of Hindu gods and men, is depicted as the creator of the universe. He is the first member of the Hindu Trinity and ruler of all. Brahma is acknowledged as the creator as he periodically creates everything in the universe, periodically due to the Hindu cyclical belief of everything being created for a certain period of time and destroyed only to be renewed in a new form once again. Of the three greatest Hindu deities, Lord Brahma dominates the first position, that of the creator. As creator of all things, Brahma must have people of his own flesh; the most significant one, Goddess Saraswathy, consort and daughter of Brahma. Besides Saraswathy, there are four sages that roam the universe as Brahma s first mind born creations and sons; Sanaka, Sanatana, Sananadana and Sanatkumara. The four Kumaras were the only sons born out of Brahma s mind rather than his body and were the only ones who refused his order to procreate, therefore devoted themselves to Vishnu and celibacy. Brahma then went on to creating ten sons (Prajapatis) from his mind, who are acknowledged as the fathers of the human race. Lord Brahma s birth story is unique in its setting. He is said to have been born from Vishnu s navel through the lotus flower. After the great flood, Vishnu summoned his creative powers and formed earth in the shape of a lotus escalating from his navel. It is believed that Brahma developed from this lotus, therefore having the lotus symbolize his birth. Brahma then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. What was the True Cause of the Peloponnesian War There have been many reasons and debates on what was the true cause of the Peloponnesian War. Thucydides describes the main reason for war somewhat accurately The real cause... The growth of the power of Athens, and the alarm which this inspired in Lacedaemon, made war inevitable. (Thucydides I.1.23). But, it was not Sparta that was alarmed but Corinth. The status quo of Greece was interrupted by Athens rise to power. As a result, Sparta was pressured by many minor Greek city states to restore the status quo. However, Sparta was still reluctant to go to war but, Corinth provided a catalyst to take all of that pressure and convince Sparta to declare war on Athens. Ultimately, it was Corinth that started the Peloponnesian War. After the end of the Persian War, Athens and Sparta each had their own different foreign policies; Athens being more active in foreign affairs and Sparta being very isolationist. With the siege of Sestos, a more decisive divergence began to appear between Athenian and Peloponnesian aspirations; it became more pronounced...with offensive operations. (Sealey 228). All of the people that suffered under the expansionist Athenians looked for help. Sparta was the only one capable of providing that help but never actually gave any. It was truly a breath taking experience and I wanted to thank you for that. While all the pieces we were able to encounter were amazing I was truly memorized by two of the paintings, the first one was The Annunciation by Master of the Retable of the Reyes Catholics which was Renaissance and Water Lilies by Claude Monet which was impressionism. It was really hard to pick but I choose to write about the Water Lilies by Monet because I had a connection with the piece and I went back to it about five times. Impressionism art can be considered the first distinctly modern movement in painting, it was developed in Paris in the 1860 s but wasn t first exhibited until 1874. Impressionist art turned away from the fine finish and detail that artist during the same time aspired to create. Impressionist captured or at least tried to capture momentary, and sensory effect of a scene. Impressionist didn t rely heavily on realistic depictions of an object or scene, they loosed the brushwork and lightened their palettes to include intense pure colors. Growing up wasn t smooth for her, she had many bumps she had to overcome to achieve her success.
