Giant Panda Affected by Road Construction
The Qinling giant pandas are a slowly diminishing species. If left unprotected they will eventually
become extinct. Fan, Li, Quan, Wu, Hu, and Yang investigated the effects of road construction on
endangered Qinling giant pandas. Road construction can greatly affect the environment. According to
the article, the harmful effects of roadway expansion extend to an area ten times broader than the
roadway itself (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). It can cause harmful chemicals to contaminate water sources
and food supplies. Subsequently, road construction isolates species from one another, and this in turn
blocks gene flow..., which steeply [decreases] genetic diversity (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). On the other
hand, road networks can isolate these species from their main water source and/or food supply. The
giant panda s only food source is bamboo. Bamboo is a fickle plant that grows in certain habitats,
under pristine conditions. Therefore, becoming isolated from bamboo forestry is detrimental to their
survival. Researchers investigated the impact of road construction on giant panda s habitat and its
carrying capacity in the Qinling Mountains (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145).
Methods:
First, the scientists determined a study area that would serve as their representative sample of the
population. The south slope of the Qinling Mountains was chosen because it contained a rich
population of Qinling giant pandas, and the environmental conditions were optimal for bamboo
growth. Secondly,

Alzheimer s Disease In The Film, Still Alice
The movie Still Alice is about a woman named Alice Howland, a fifty year old, who is a famous
linguistics author and a teacher at Columbia University and is diagnosed with early onset familial
Alzheimer s disease. This woman is incredibly smart and is known for her intellect. Alice notices she
is forgetting small things like words and names and getting lost in places she knows well. For
example, while she was on a run around campus, she completely forgot where she was and found
herself to be lost, but she eventually recognizes where she is at and continues her run. After seeing a
doctor that declared her symptoms were probably due to menopause, Alice decides to go to a
neurologist because she is sure that she has a brain tumor. The neurologist at New York Presbyterian
Hospital performs memory tests at the appointment and orders an MRI While cooking Christmas
dinner, Alice uses a covered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our textbook backs up this information: The prevalence increases with age, rising from extremely low
rates in the 50s to about half of all people age 85 and older. (Kail and Cavanaugh, 2016 Ch. 14.4). As
someone who has family members on both my maternal and paternal sides, I am very scared for what
the future holds, and according to the textbook, I have good reason to be: As the number of older
adults increases rapidly over the next several decades, the number of cases is expected to roughly
triple. (Kail and Cavanaugh, 2016 Ch. 14.4). If the general number without higher risk factors is
expected to triple, there is definitely a reason for concern. As of now, there is no cure for Alzheimer s
disease, and few medications and therapies actually provide better results over time. I believe that with
further research, we could not only find out what is causing Alzheimer s and its increase, but we can
also find ways to help those inflicted with this

My Road Trip
I have been on many road trips in my life. For as long as I can remember, summer vacation was piling
in the car and driving across the country, setting up camp wherever we went. I would watch my mom
in the weeks and months before it, carefully planning every step of the way, even though it would
often come unravelling halfway through. The best part of vacations are the improvised parts, whether
it s taking a day trip to Disney World, the tickets bought the day before, driving down to San
Francisco for no good reason, or watching a movie in a tiny movie theater on a day that it rained.
Planning is crucial, I learned, but you should never expect anything to be set in stone. My theoretical
road trip would be taken with my two sisters and last ten days, and would be a mad dash west towards
California, which has many wonderful National Parks for us to camp in. The National Park system is a
wonderfully western phenomenon, and throughout the states west of the Appalachians, there is an
amazing diversity of places to camp and hike in. There will hopefully be no hotels on this trip, only
tents. We will have two hundred dollars put aside for grocery shopping, which we will use to buy food
that we will cook with. There will also be another three hundred set aside for eating out. There will
also be four hundred dollars for emergencies, whether that be a car breakdown or staying in a hotel.
For our ten day trip, we will have to pay for a campsite each night. The practical and wonderful thing
about camping is that the average campsite costs only ten dollars, so that will only cost us about one
hundred dollars. Hiking, our main activity on the trip, will cost us nothing as well. My family also
owns a pass that gets us into National Parks for free, so that will cost us nothing. The car we will take
is an Hyundai Elantra, which has been highly reliable in the past, and the average cost of gas per mile
is twelve cents. Lucy and I will switch driving, while Sadie will be in charge of navigation, using
atlases and Google Maps. The first day of the trip, we will leave Kansas early in the morning and
drive all the way to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. In the usual traffic, this trip will take
approximately ten hours

Rampart Scandal
The Rampart Scandal
When officers from the Los Angeles Police Department s Internal Affairs bureau began shadowing
Rafael Perez, watching their fellow cop steal massive amounts of cocaine from evidence lockers in
order to sell it on the street, investigators thought they had a major misconduct case on their hands.
They didn t know the half of it.
The perception of the Los Angeles Police Department has ranged from being the best police force in
the United States to being a blatant racist agency. The scandals that have surrounded the agency have
taken a toll on the image of the department, The Rampart scandal added to community mistrust of the

We urge that the leadership of the LAPD go beyond rhetoric in carrying out its existing policies
against excessive force. From the Chief of Police down to the sergeants, this means taking a firm stand
against the bad guys on the force and employing all the instruments available training, discipline,
assignments, and promotion... We recommend a new standard of accountability (1991, xiii xiv)
The Rampart Scandal
It is difficult to fathom that a scandal so large, with grand implications not only for the LAPD but for
urban law enforcement in general, was ignited by one man s attempt to save his own skin. Back in
1999, confronted by the evidence Internal Affairs had against him, the officer sought to cut a deal. In
exchange for a sweetheart sentence and immunity against further prosecution, he would tell them
about misconduct at the forces
Rampart division. Perez talked for more than 50 hours, telling the investigators not only about police
pushing drugs, but also about officers routinely beating up civilians, framing suspects, and killing
alleged gang members without provocation. If the severity of the misconduct was not shocking
enough, Perez also claimed that such behavior was commonplace in his entire division the Rampart
station unit of an elite anti gang program called CRASH

Alienation And Anomie Essay
Both concepts of alienation and anomie signify how individualism has impacted the social structures
through industrialization and the division of labour. Both Marx and Durkheim s theories emphasize
the relationships between people in society and how this impacts on separateness and individualism
within it; however, both theories are different. Where Marx is concerned he focuses on being alienated
as a result of materialized matter through the bourgeoisie alienating oneself from culture, for
Durkheim anomie is due to the lack of a collective conscience within society preventing both
regulation and integration of culture; for Durkheim this negatively impacts on social solidarity and
cohesion. Alienation occurred after the periods of slavery and serfdom arose a capitalist society,
workers selling their labour skills in order to earn a living wage. In comparison to feudal societies
where wealth was inherited, capitalist societies through the bourgeoisie was about owning the means
of production enabling them to own private property and this being wealth. However, the cost price of
the goods produced was significantly higher than the labourer s wages resulting in a profit for the
bourgeoisie, this being the method of attaining wealth. The capitalist mode of production generates its
wealth through exploitation of the proletariat. Karl Marx (1970) stated ...the accumulation of wealth at
one pole of society involves a simultaneous accumulation of poverty, labour torment, slavery,

The Central Nervous System For Spinal Cord Injuries
Introduction:
The central nervous system is what connects the brain to the muscles of the body. When a patient has
an injury to the spinal cord, movements in certain parts of the body will be affected based on the
location of the injury. If the injury affects hand motion then many day to day tasks are affected. This
literature review seeks to understand how an injury to the spinal cord impacts movement, and what
has been done so far to help those affected by spinal cord injuries.
Methods:
The information in this literature review was collected from an expert interview and the search
databases Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The expert for the expert interview was
selected based on experience with designing prosthetics for individuals that had lost their hand and
potentially part of their arm (Birdwell, 2016). The databases were searched using keywords spinal
cord injury , hand movement , and fine motor movement . In PubMed the selection was also narrowed
down by selecting only studies done on humans. New terminology was searched through science
direct due to the built in function that allows for key words from the article to be selected for further
information from multiple books or journals.
Results:

The Growing Critiques of MBA Programs
Recently critiques about MBA programs have increased in number. Many believe that management
education focuses on learning of managerial skills that are needed in current ever changing business
environment. Research conducted in the past suggested that individuals with a Master s degree in
Business Administration generally perform better in managerial positions than those who do not hold
an MBA degree (Baruch Peiperl, 2000). In a dissenting view however, the author noted that an MBA
qualification does not adequately equip students with both soft and hard skills which are needed for
effective management. In addition, Researchers argue that in management education, the soft skills are
ignored and the hard skills are emphasized.
Empirical studies (Boyatzis Renio, 1989) demonstrated that MBA programme has significant positive
effect on graduates managerial competencies but they contend that did not appear effective in
enhancing soft skills. In overall view, an assessment of how MBA graduates fared after attaining MBA
degree, led (Sturges, Simpson, Altman, 2003) to deduce that the graduates become more effective
managers who display self confidence, people management and team working skills. In their study on
the motivators of choosing a management course, Nyaribo, Prakash Owino, (2012), concluded that
MBA education should combine explicit knowledge of the basic disciplines with the tacit knowledge
that comes from practice in order to provide MBA graduates with a

The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s
Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As
people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us
different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun.
It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our
downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to
symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the
idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art,
music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and
music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as
equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still
abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters
worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it
became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora
Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the
other with the purpose of gaining the attention of white Americans. Their works expose the racial

Margaret Sanger Birth Control Movement
Margaret Sanger s Contributions to Nursing Through her Birth Control Movement Margaret Louise
Sanger, a nurse in the early mid 1900s, was the first to promote and spread information regarding birth
control. She was passionate about women having the right to their decision of bearing children. She
also wanted women to be educated about the risks involved and informed about methods of birth
control. Sanger did not have many male supporters; however, she used her perseverance to her
advantage and continued to advocate her ideas to the public. Eventually, her thoughts and ideas made
headway to magazines and newspapers, allowing the information to become public knowledge for any
woman wanting to understand more about birth control. She not only wrote magazines and articles,
she also opened several clinics and performed procedures on women wanting medical assistance that
was denied by many doctors. Sanger s stance on birth control lead to various outbreaks and conflicts;
however, her accomplishments overpowered her obstacles, and birth control is now a decision for
women across the world (Knowles, 2009; Margaret, 2001; Margaret, 2017; Topics, 2015; Wardell,
1980). Biography Margaret Louise Sanger, a women s activist who initiated the U.S. birth control

The Sport Of Soccer And Football
Today, there are many popular sport which involved players getting injured during the game. The most
talked about sport of all time are soccer and football. They are the number one sport in the world.
They are both loved by people around the world and everybody enjoy every minute of watching the
player play the sports. The problem is that the player always seem to get injured from this sport but
the cause of their injured are different from each other. Between soccer and football, the most common
injuries are knee and ankle injured. Soccer players often get injured more often than football players,
whenever they are on the field. In between this two sport, it seems like someone always get injured
whenever the event is held.
First, the cause of the injured between soccer and football different from each other. Both the soccer
and football player would twist their ankle and hurt their knee during the game. For soccer players, the
cause of their injured are running and kicking the ball all over the field and sometimes twist their
ankle while running. Sometimes for soccer players while they have the ball the other team would sly
kick the ball and miss; but when that person missed, the sly kick would hit the other player knee or
ankle and it would result in the other person getting injured. However for football players, the only
way to get injured is they would have to be tackle down by other players; if they want to get injured.
Their chance of getting injured are very low

Ban on the Usage of Cell Phone while Driving
Cell phone ban while driving Many states in America according to their research have found out that
use of cell phones in cars have contributed to several accidents as well as traffic violations and are
now legislating rules and regulations on cell phone usage so as to create safer driving environment in
the states hence reducing the number of accidents each and every day caused by use of cell phones
while driving. Jennifer Clark (2012 ) indicates that teenage drivers were banned from any cell phone
use while driving in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., Illinois, Indiana,
Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island,
Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Specific ages vary by state. Michigan bans cell phones
for teens with probationary licenses in cases where the cell phone has resulted in an accident or traffic
violation. The use of mobile phones in cars is one of several sources of driver distraction which
contribute to road crashes and injuries to those both inside and outside the vehicle. According to
research reported by Tom and Ray Magliozzi (n.d), Drivers are four times as likely to crash when
talking on a phone 地nd three times as likely when talking on a hands free phone. This is occasioned
by physical distractions when the driver has to use one or both hands to dial a number, answer or end a

Seasonal And Anthropogenic Changes In Edonesia Case Study
Wendy Erb has been completing her research since 2005. Her research project had the aim of looking
at flexible responses to seasonal and anthropomorphic changes in primates. She focuses on the
environment of the Southeast Asian rainforests. This is due to the presence of dramatic supra annual
masting cycles with peaks in fruit 2 5 times the normal abundance. The forest experiences severe El

in widespread forest fires and haze. In Indonesia rainfall decreases up to 60% compared to normal

The research objective was to analyze how seasonal they are with predictions of low birth seasonality.
Simakobu s are medium sized colobines with a 6.6 month estimated gestation time. The typical living
groups are one male, three females, two juveniles and one to two infants. Data was collected from
2006 to 2008, 373 census days with 11 births and 1787 feeding points. Infant groups were measured
for size, motor skills and colour against a three point scale.
Siberut ecology displays no distinct annual variation, the climate is warm and wet with an absence of
dry season. Fruit is available nine months out of the whole year. Simokubu feeding is characterized by
strong annual variation with fruit intake peaking in June and September. Simokobu reproduction
exhibits moderate annual variation and a moderate peak in October. The conceptions coincided with
peaks in unripe fruit as there is high costs in lactation due to costs of the physical environment. The
seasonal effects are because of the environmental seasonality due to the preference of fruit. Giving
birth occurs approximately six months after fruit availability peaks. This happens due to conceiving
occurring at good condition which supports the idea of Simakobu s being capital breeders.

What Are The Different Rates Of Liquids Evaporate At The...
Do you think that all liquids evaporate at the same rate? Without any research an average person
would think that water and oil would evaporate at the same rate since they are both liquids. Through
research, science shows that due to their density oil will take longer to evaporate since it has more
mass. Does the amount of density in the liquids make them all evaporate at the same rate? All liquids
do not evaporate at the same rate because denser liquids take longer to evaporate. Why does water
evaporate? Evaporation is a very important part of the water cycle. Heat from the sun, or solar energy,
powers the evaporation process. How fast will different liquids evaporate? If liquids can evaporate and

strong polar opinions in the American society, in part due to its complex composition of peoples and
cultures. It is precisely due to this fact, that the interpreters and translators working in the field of
Immigration must be familiar not only with the basic types of immigration hearings, but have an
understanding of the history of Immigration in the United States, different types of visas and statuses
as well as paths to Permanent Residency and Citizenship.

1. HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION
The United States of America has a rich immigration history, dating back to the 18th century, where
there were virtually no immigration restrictions, making the U.S. a kaleidoscope of ethnic and cultural
groups it is today. Following the Civil War, several U.S. states made initial attempts in regulating
immigration, which led to the 1875 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to make the immigration a
federal responsibility, thus launching a chain of Immigration laws and regulations leading us to today.
The first immigration law, the Page Act of 1875 (aka the Asian Exclusion Act) was passed in 1875 and
prohibited the importation of Asian contract workers, any Asian women who would engage in
prostitution and everybody who is considered to be a convict in their own county. The Page Act of
1875 was followed by the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, which prohibited Chinese contract laborers to
immigrate to the United States, as well as Alien Contract Labor laws of 1885 and 1887, both of which
broadened the laborers exclusion list.
Soon after, the increasingly complex immigration laws established by the federal government led to
the creation of the Office of the Superintendent of Immigration within the Treasure Department. The
newly organized government office inspected, admitted or rejected as well as processed all the newly
arriving immigrants.
January 2nd, 1892 marked the opening of the famous immigration station located on Ellis Island in the

Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants
Should the United States Grant amnesty to immigrants who came here illegally? By: Chris Myers
Should the U.S. grant amnesty to immigrants who came here illegally? The answer to this question is
yes, they should. What s wrong with granting amnesty to hard working, tax paying individuals whose
only crime is their immigration status? Amnesty is not only the best solution to our immigration
problem, it is the only feasible solution. Here are some reasons to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants
now. Immigration is good for the economy. Despite all the fuss about immigrants stealing jobs,
immigration actually provides a benefit to the economy, whether those immigrants crossed the border
legally or not. Why you ask? Because of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While illegal immigration is a crime, the act of crossing the border without authorization is a mere
misdemeanor. Immigrants, in fact, may help drive crime down. The vast majority want to stay in the
country in order to work, so they naturally steer clear of breaking any laws. And as The Future of
Freedom Foundation s Sheldon Richman pointed out a few years ago, all manners of violent crimes
dropped dramatically since 1986, the last time an amnesty was granted to illegal immigrants. Yes, 14
percent of federal inmates are illegal immigrants, but they are largely there for immigration violations.
On the state level, Richman notes, less than 5 percent of inmates are illegal immigrants. Not exactly
the makings of a crime wave. An important one would be that immigration is a natural right. Judge
Andrew Napolitano explained that immigration is a natural right. What does that mean? A natural
right is a right inherent to our humanity, and the freedom of movement is such a right. The idea that
immigration needs to be authorized by the government flies in the face of that freedom. Immigrants
who come to America seeking the opportunity to work and pursue happiness, or those brought here at
too young an age to have any say in the matter, ought to be able to stay to pursue those opportunities.
Conversely, employers ought to be able to enter into contracts with any would be employees they
please. The government doesn t own the country and political borders are

Protective Environment And A Nurturing Environment
Review Questions
1. Explain the difference between a protective environment and a nurturing environment.
A protective environment is an environment where a child is protected from violence and abuse, they
feel at home, in school, and in the community. In a protective environment, a child feels they can trust
their parents, teachers, and other adults in their community to protect them from potential threats. A
nurturing environment, however, includes a protective environment but goes further to make sure the
physical and emotional needs are taken care of. The child trusts that their family will take care of
them, there will try to understand them and that they are loved. A protective environment is a

for the purpose of separating children from their families.[2] According to the commission, this was
done with the intention to minimize the family s ability to pass along their cultural heritage to their

Freedom Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. These are the words of Ronald
Reagan, former President of the United States of America, speaking on the topic of freedom, a subject
he frequently dealt with during his long presidency. Over the years, freedom in the U.S. has become
an increasingly controversial topic, and the effectiveness of the government in affording these
freedoms has been called into question. Through certain historical documents and events, the
government s effectiveness at ensuring freedoms for all can be confirmed. The occurrences of several

Additionally, approximately a century later, bigotry received its final, most important, blow when the
Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. The act was one of the most important pieces of legislation in
American history, outlawing discrimination of not only blacks, but women, in terms of voting, public
education, and workplaces. The passing of this act was a catalyst for social reform, and racial and
sexual acceptance. Although delayed and incredibly late, Lincoln and the United States government
eventually granted and ensured all American citizens the same freedoms that still exist in the country
today. A prime example of the freedom afforded to citizens can be seen through the exploits of the
immensely controversial Westboro Baptist Church. The church, according to the Anti Defamation
League, is a small virulently homophobic, anti Semitic hate group that regularly stages protests around
the country (Extremism in America 1). According to Bill Mears with CNN, the church, which has long
been a source of controversy, was recently sued for inflicting emotional distress upon a family as a
result of protesting at the funeral of a dead marine. However, despite a powerful statement by Chief
Justice John Roberts in which he claimed that speech is powerful and that it can inflict great pain, he
also said that we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker (Mears 1).

Wife Of Bath And Queen Guinevere Analysis
Women in the Middle Ages were expected to be wives, mothers, and helpers with no power or control
over their lives in society. They could not be professionals without a man s or a husband s help. There
were no rights for women. Women were supposed to be pretty and do as they were told. In the stories
of The Wife of Bath and Queen Guinevere as characters of the Middle Ages they are not powerless
women.
The Wife of Bath was married five times and she chose men who were old. She had no children. How
she talks in her story says she had no problem saying what she thought. Her nobility was by marriage.
The Wife of Bath gained her wealth and land through the statement,
The woman s wise who s busy till she s won

Johannes Kepler s Accomplishments
Johannes Kepler was born on December 27, 1571in Weil der Stadt, Germany and died on November
15, 1630 in Resenburg, Germany due to his health. When Kepler was born in the late 16th century,
scientists believed that planets in the solar system traveled in circular orbits around the Earth. Kepler
came from a modest family in a small German town. He began university studies in 1598, where he
grasped ideas of Copernicus s works and tutored in its complex details by Maestlin. He experienced a
moment of illumination while teaching a small class, struck him that the spacing among the six
Copernican planets might be explained circumscribing and inscribing each orbit with one of the five
regular polyhedrons.
Kepler was a German astronomer, mathematician, astrologists and a natural philosopher who
discovered three major laws of planetary motion: the plantes move in elliptical orbits with the sun at
one focus, area law and harmonic law. The area law is time necessary to traverse any arc of a

Formal Essay I
The Many Instances of Irony in The Lottery In Shirley Jackson s short story The Lottery, she uses
many examples of irony. Irony is the use of words that are the opposite of their usual meaning or what
is expected to happen. The use of irony plays an important role in delivering Jackson s sarcasm. The
author holds our attention all throughout the story and builds our suspense by using irony with the
characters and events that take place. Some instances of irony that she uses during the story to hold
our attention are: The title, the weather, the stones, the lunch and even some of the characters. The
very first use of irony starts with the title The Lottery. When the ... Show more content on

so that they can go home and eat lunch. They pay no mind that they are eating lunch with blood on
their hands. The sentence Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black
box, they still remembered to use stones. (par. 74) shows that the villagers didn t care about the box or
the ritual, but they did care about the tool that would be used to kill somebody. The author is trying to
tell that the villagers didn t find pleasure in the ritual, but they did find pleasure in using the rock.
Although the villagers find the ritual to be long and boring, they find pleasure in using the rocks to
murder one of their family members or friends. The villagers find pleasure to be more important than
the ritual itself. Mrs. Hutchinson is washing dishes whenever she realizes what day and time it is.
After she realizes what day it is, she hurriedly runs to where the ritual is taking place. As she is on her
way to the ritual she doesn t stop to dry her hands, and this suggest that she s in a huge rush. Why is

Good evening,

events of the sewage back up.
Saturday afternoon we noticed a smell on the 1st floor and upon investigation found that the 1st floor
bathroom was flooded with approximately ¼ inch of water, the toilet was full of liquid and solid
waste, and the tub had 2 inches of liquid and solid waste. We immediately called the emergency

European Werewolf Myth
From Shaman to Demon:
How the Spread of Christianity Shaped the European Werewolf Myth
At the mention of the word werewolf, those familiar with twenty first century literature and television
will often conjure the same iconic image in their minds: an unsuspecting victim of a wolf bite that
develops a deadly silver allergy and undergoes a peculiar transformation every full moon. The modern
myth we have grown to love stems from the medieval picture of a flesh eating wolf man in league
with the Devil, which only barely resembles the werewolf stories of a pre Christian Europe. With the
spread of Christianity in Europe from the early Medieval Period to the end of the Renaissance,
werewolf lore underwent a major transition to better complement ... Show more content on

Where does this tradition come from? In chapter 6 of John in the Bible, Jesus told the apostles, I am
the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And
the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh (John 6:51, ESV) and Truly, truly, I say to
you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever
feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day (John
6:53 54, ESV).
This begs the question: if Christians can eat the flesh of other men, why is it so wrong for
werewolves? The answer may lie in the nature of how a werewolf was theorized to obtain his meals.
Proposed by Christians who engage in the tradition of the Eucharist as it was practiced during the
Middle Ages, cannibalism differs from Communion in the detail that while a cannibal must kill his
victim in order to consume his flesh, Jesus does not die when he is consumed during Communion

Professionalism Definition
I have an extremely broad definition for professionalism. Overall, I believe that professionalism is a
multidimensional term that refers to many ideal qualities associated with respectable, professional
individuals. These individuals have chosen to conduct themselves in the best ways possible in all areas
related to their career and work. In my opinion, individuals exhibit professionalism when they are
highly self disciplined, competent, experienced, and well mannered. In addition to this, I believe
professionalism refers to those that are good decision makers and individuals that strongly adhere to
ethical guidelines. I believe the term also characterizes those that strive to serve the needs of their

First, I will sincerely strive to adhere to the ethical guidelines associated with my professional career.
Ethical guidelines may seem easy to follow initially, but my experiences while interning have shown
me that it could become difficult to follow these guidelines in situations where morals contradict with
the ethical guidelines of the organization. For example, there have been times at Rogers County Youth
Services where the youth have tried to give me a hug when I leave. From a moral standpoint and my
Christian faith, I strive to be a caring, loving person in all my social interactions. I try to display this
when deemed appropriate to be an encouraging presence in a dark place. Therefore, it may seem odd
for one such as myself to deny a hug from a youth that has been ripped from their family due to
neglect and/or abuse. However, Rogers County Youth Services made me sign an ethical contract that
specifically stated that I was restricted from hugging any of the residents in the shelter no matter what.
Although my moral compass may lead me to disregard this statement in certain extreme scenarios, I
have an obligation to conduct myself in an ethical, professional manner while interning. I believe this
is an excellent rule at the shelter because it protects the individual and the organization from a wide
variety of repercussions that could result from hugging a resident. Nonetheless, it is a rule that could
be challenging for many to follow in situations where a young victim of abuse is asking for a

The American Dream For A Black Man And A White Man
The racism against African Americans began in the 17th century, when the African slaves were
forcibly brought over by the British colonist to America. Even after slavery was outlawed, racism and
segregation was still present between the African American and White race. Many African American
activist fought and died for our equality such as Fredrick Douglas, Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcom
X, Rosa Parks, and Emmitt Teel. It is sad to say that even with all of the lives lost during boycotts, and
hate raids, racism still does exist.
Elevated white power does exist. I do not say that to be in any way racial or prejudice. Although, it is
a known fact that the power of being white does exist even in modern day society. The economic
competition between a black man and a white man is unequal. The economic wages given to a black
man and a white man are unequal. The American dream for a black man and a white man are in most
ways different. That still does not change the fact that I would have to break my back to get through
school in order to receive a piece of paper saying I m capable, when a white man education is paved
for him. It is despicable to say that I have been taught to accept that I have to work harder for what I
want, when some people are just given what they desire to have.
It is a shame that the African American race is stereotyped into this category of violence and
ignorance. Yes, there is a large quantity of African American people who are indeed violent and

Essay on Comparing Two Articles on Teen Binge Drinking
Comparing Two Articles on Teen Binge Drinking
The article How to Manage Teen Drinking (the smart way), written by Jeffery Kluger and the article
Getting Stupid, written by Bernie Wuethrich are both articles about teenage binge drinking. The two
articles are very similar and different at the same time, while together rhetorically appealing to the
logos. Combined they give a good background on teenage binge drinking.
Both articles have many similarities; both agree that binge drinking is a problem among adolescents
across the country. Binge drinking is defined by both articles as, five or more drinks in a row for boys
and four or more drinks in a row for girls (Wuethrich, p.58 59). Both articles agree that one major ...

It was written to give suggestions on how to lower the amount of teenage binge drinking. One solution
that Middlebury College in Vermont has thought of would be to lower the drinking age. This
technique would be useful because kids would be able to drink in more open environments and not
have to hide what they are inevitably going to do. This is productive because in the open
environments, they can be monitored and if anything goes wrong a responsible person will be there to
help. This idea of an 18 year old drinking age is not too plausible because if a state were to lower the
drinking age, the federal government would take away millions of dollars in highway funding.
The federal government has good reason to take away funding. This is because The University of
Michigan conducted a study when the drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 years old, in the early
1980 s. The study found that, The change also contributed to a 58% drop in alcohol related deaths
among 15 to 20 year olds since 1982 (Kluger, p.43).
According to Getting Stupid the reason why so many adolescent kids binge drink is because when
they are drunk, dopamine is released in the prefrontal cortex, which gives you a feeling of pleasure.
Teens want this pleasure to reoccur, so they drink again. After a long period of usage a tolerance is
built and more alcohol is needed to receive the same pleasure, which leads to binge drinking
(Wuethrich, p.62).

Cleopatra s father was King Ptolemy XII. Little is known about Cleopatra s mother, but some
speculation presumes she may have been her father s sister, Cleopatra V Tryphaena. Debate also
surrounds Cleopatra s ethnicity. While it was believed for a long time that she was of Greek descent,
some speculate that her lineage may have been black African.
In 51 B.C., Ptolemy XII died, leaving the throne to 18 year old Cleopatra and her brother, the 10 year
old Ptolemy XIII. It is likely that the two siblings married, as was customary at the time. Over the next
few years Egypt struggled to face down a number of issues, from an unhealthy economy to floods to
famine.
Political turmoil also shaped this period. Soon after they assumed power, complications arose between
Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII. Eventually Cleopatra fled to Syria, where she assembled an army to
defeat her rival in order to declare the throne for herself. In 48, she returned to Egypt with her military
might and faced her brother at Pelusium, located on the empire s eastern edge. Most of what we know
about Cleopatra was written after her death when it was politically expedient to portray her as a threat
to Rome and its stability. Thus, some of what we know about Cleopatra may have been exaggerated or
misrepresented by those sources. Cassius Dio, one of the ancient sources that tells her story,
summarizes her story as She captivated the two greatest Romans of her day, and

The Importance Of The First Opium War In China
When India brought opium to China, India was put into a whole lot of trouble. Since opium is very
addictive, it was hard to stop using this product just the same as using marijuana or tobacco. The
Chinese Emperor was furious with the British for getting a majority of the Chinese people hooked
onto opium, so this resulted in the Opium Wars. These wars were fought against Britain and China,
and became a big problem for the Chinese. The trade of opium was just as big as the tea trade the
estimated amount of addicts was about 10 million. Foreign merchants were confronted and forced to
surrender because of these sales, but China could not keep the British out. Regardless of any rules that
were passed, people would still continue to buy and sell opium. ... Show more content on

Since China s ships were very outdated, Britain had a new advance in technology with gunboats. The
Daoguang Emperor attempted to stop these sales, but suffered greatly from this. The Chinese got
demolished by the British and because of this, and this loss led to the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing.
This peace treaty was signed years after the first war took place. It stated that China had to give away
the island of Hong Kong. Now, keep in mind, the Chinese are already drastically failing. They are
hooked on opium and destroyed. Foreign rulers began to use this to their advantage, and claim ports of
their own. The British continued to take more and more land away from China, leaving them broken
and ashamed of what they have become. A decade later, the US Navy frightened the Japanese by
saying if they did not negotiate with them, then the same thing will happen in Japan that happened in

Reflection On Trust
About a year ago today my family was going through many issues that affected my mental well being
tremendously. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no
longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in
Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I
started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area.
Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the
school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my
friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This
transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With
this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I
was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout
many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the
idea would permit it. My sense of trust within people has been diminished, leaving me with the notion
that trusting is a huge risk. The risk of being let down by someone who chose not to commit to an act,
is a risk I am normally am not able to perform. After countless occasions of

Market Research Essay
Market Research
Market research is carried out by a business before they launch a product, to find out what the target
market wants and what they could do to increase the appeal of their product. It involves thoroughly
gathering, recording and analysing data and can often take a large amount of time. A wide variety of
market research techniques are used to find out what customers want. Depending on the product,
customers are asked questions like: Where are they? Can we satisfy them? How can we improve our
product for them?
There are two types of market research. The first, Field or Primary Research, is the process of
gathering new information about the market. The term field comes about ... Show more content on

Questionnaires can be carried out a number of ways, including face to face, over the telephone or
through the post.
* Test marketing/product testing: This is when a product is marketed and tested by a small part of the
total market. The aim of this is to see if the product would be suitable for commercial release, and
what changes can be made to the product to make it better or more suitable.
* Consumer groups/panels: This is where a select group of people are give a product and asked to
comment in detail on what could be improved or changed. It is probably the least effective form of
field research as the sample of people is so small, that fewer opinions can be taken into consideration.
Methods of secondary (desk) research are:
* Government Statistics: Useful sources of information carried out by the government include the
National Census. A full Census is carried out once every ten years in the United Kingdom. It shows
many different sets of data, including age, income, religion and where people live. Government
statistics also include the Family Expenditure Survey and Social Trends.

The Reader s Sympathy for Dorian from Wilde s The Picture...
The French born author, Anais Nin once wrote, We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow
sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative ( Think
Exist Quotations ). Anais is expounding upon the inconsistency all people have in aspects of their
personalities. Some days a person may be hailed as a saint for their actions, while other days they
seem absolutely evil. In most literature, characters are defined as good or evil based on their revealed
thoughts and actions. On occasion an anomaly may be found, where a character is more ambiguous.
Dorian Gray s Actions throughout The Picture of Dorian Gray paralyzes the readers ability to
condemn Dorian as purely good or purely evil, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also sympathize with how conflicted Dorian seems to be, trying to care about personal and
tangible aspects of his world. At this point, readers still cannot condemn Dorian as necessarily good or
evil.
Most people would consider Dorian s personality to be swaying towards the evil side based on his
vanity and extreme concern with himself until Sibyl Vane becomes the most prominent part of his life.
Dorian meets Sibyl and instantly loves her. His instant love and compassion, though shallow, could
mean that he does care about others on a deeper level. Dorian cares so much as to ask his good friend
Lord Henry to tell [him] how to charm Sibyl Vane to [loving him]. [He] wants[s] to make Romeo
jealous (ch 4). His desire to challenge the charm of one of the most infamous romantics shows that he
is deeply devoted to, and seriously concerned with winning the affection of Sibyl Vane. Dorian makes
his admiration for Sibyl apparent when he openly proclaims, I love Sibyl Vane. I want to place her on
a pedestal of gold, and to see the world worship the woman who is mine (ch 6). Dorian wins over the
audience a bit with his avid display of love. Readers sympathize with his ability to love, care and even
worship a woman he has barley met. His evil and vain words pale in comparison to his light hearted
compassionate ones, making the readers feel bad for the shame they condemned him

Choosing The Brain
The world is filled with disease, impacting much of humanity. While there have been a lot of studies
centered upon physical health, within the last two decades much of the research has narrowed its focus
on how exercise impacts the body s overall health, especially the brain. This paper confirms that
exercise can have a transforming effect on the brain, which, in turn, can have a positive effect on
overall health, especially in the areas of stress and aging.
Choosing the Book
In perusing the options available for this course s book review, I choose SPARK: THE
REVOLUTIONARY NEW SCIENCE OF EXERCISE AND THE BRAIN by John J. Ratey, MD, with
Eric Hagerman. The relationship between exercise and the brain was a topic that intrigued me and was

with slower neuron cell reproduction, and the immune system then becomes seriously inactive (p. 66).
They included in the book the real life example of Dr. Bob Pyle, who had stress induced disseminated
sacoidosis, a disease which had no cure at the time (Ratey Hagerman,
2008, p. 80). In very poor health, Pyle, turned to the exercise of consistent running and

physician (Hatey Hagerman, 2008, p. 81). This story motivated me to want to consistently incorporate
regular exercise into my own life in hopes of reducing stress, and, thereby, lowering my risk of
disease.
Aging
With aging come numerous changes within the human body. Yet as a nurse, I see more of the
devastating effects that aging has on the brain. Patients can have perfectly strong bodies yet be
incapacitated with cognitive decline. Ratey and Hagerman (2008) discussed an interesting study using
mice that had been genetically modified to be more likely to develop Alzheimer s

What Are Your Struggles Essay
Struggles can come from everywhere, but the hardest ones are from within. Our weaknesses, our flaws
are the things we have to struggle with every day. I have grown up with quite a few struggles like
everyone else. My anger, fear of public speaking and trust issues set me apart of other people and
these are the struggles I cope with every day. I just have to learn how to live with those flaws and
sooner or later I will overcome them.
Anger the one thing that runs in my family. I wouldn t say I m bipolar but I can go from freezing cold
to burning fire real quick. My anger is a struggle because it prevents me from seeing someone else s
point of view also can make me selfish. It makes me think as if I m always right (which can be true).
My anger sometimes leads me on caring too much, since I put too much time and effort trying to

I have trust issues, but when I giving someone everything they toss it away like nothing, something
inside of me breaks. I think what hurts the most is when I give my all to someone, through thick and
thin, there for them, I stick with them, no matter what. Then one day they just give up. They won t
even fight for me, unlike how I did. The one thing I never have done they did with no hesitation. This
is why I have trust issues, I give my 100% in everything yet that person won t even care. As if
whatever we had was never a thing? People give up too quickly but I give in so easily. Life is unfair, it
seems like I m giving everyone everything and they re just walking away with it. Sometimes giving
someone a second chance is like giving someone an extra bullet for the gun because they missed the

the urgency and degree of the water supply problem of the city. It also seems that until the last few

A Perfect Date Destination For Shallow Wallet Students

Stop gaping, I m not kidding. You can accomplish that fancy dinner to woo your loved one for about
the price you paid for that video game you got last week. For a normal dinner that might be considered
checking account suicide, but for the occasion you won t find much better. Even Olive Garden will run
you about the same bill.
With your anxiety subsiding, you can finally sink your teeth into some good food. And I will stress
that it is very good food. This meal will come in courses which begin with a light appetizer of
bruschetta to start your evening. Now, I m not the biggest fan of raw tomato, and these little toasted
baguette slices are piled high with it. However, I really enjoyed the tart balsamic vinegar, little tangy
swirl of goat cheese, and yes, even the tomato mound. If this restaurant could get me to enjoy one of
the few ingredients I didn t like, I knew what was to come would be a delight.
Next up is your choice of soup or salad. I can t comment much on the state of their salad mastery with
my fiancée and me both opting to indulge in one of the soup options. Conversely, the minestrone soup
they served me must have been dreamt up by a brilliant chef because that was the greatest I ve ever
had. It was as if someone leafed through an abundant garden to find only its finest offerings and
promptly place them in my bowl. The tomato broth complimented each ingredient with a piquant
aftertaste that left me wanting one

In 1975 my grandfather was offered a position with his company that would relocate him to Iran. He

  • 2. Giant Panda Affected by Road Construction The Qinling giant pandas are a slowly diminishing species. If left unprotected they will eventually become extinct. Fan, Li, Quan, Wu, Hu, and Yang investigated the effects of road construction on endangered Qinling giant pandas. Road construction can greatly affect the environment. According to the article, the harmful effects of roadway expansion extend to an area ten times broader than the roadway itself (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). It can cause harmful chemicals to contaminate water sources and food supplies. Subsequently, road construction isolates species from one another, and this in turn blocks gene flow..., which steeply [decreases] genetic diversity (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). On the other hand, road networks can isolate these species from their main water source and/or food supply. The giant panda s only food source is bamboo. Bamboo is a fickle plant that grows in certain habitats, under pristine conditions. Therefore, becoming isolated from bamboo forestry is detrimental to their survival. Researchers investigated the impact of road construction on giant panda s habitat and its carrying capacity in the Qinling Mountains (Fan et al., 2011, p. 145). Methods: First, the scientists determined a study area that would serve as their representative sample of the population. The south slope of the Qinling Mountains was chosen because it contained a rich population of Qinling giant pandas, and the environmental conditions were optimal for bamboo growth. Secondly, ... • 3. Alzheimer s Disease In The Film, Still Alice The movie Still Alice is about a woman named Alice Howland, a fifty year old, who is a famous linguistics author and a teacher at Columbia University and is diagnosed with early onset familial Alzheimer s disease. This woman is incredibly smart and is known for her intellect. Alice notices she is forgetting small things like words and names and getting lost in places she knows well. For example, while she was on a run around campus, she completely forgot where she was and found herself to be lost, but she eventually recognizes where she is at and continues her run. After seeing a doctor that declared her symptoms were probably due to menopause, Alice decides to go to a neurologist because she is sure that she has a brain tumor. The neurologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital performs memory tests at the appointment and orders an MRI While cooking Christmas dinner, Alice uses a covered ... Our textbook backs up this information: The prevalence increases with age, rising from extremely low rates in the 50s to about half of all people age 85 and older. (Kail and Cavanaugh, 2016 Ch. 14.4). As someone who has family members on both my maternal and paternal sides, I am very scared for what the future holds, and according to the textbook, I have good reason to be: As the number of older adults increases rapidly over the next several decades, the number of cases is expected to roughly triple. (Kail and Cavanaugh, 2016 Ch. 14.4). If the general number without higher risk factors is expected to triple, there is definitely a reason for concern. As of now, there is no cure for Alzheimer s disease, and few medications and therapies actually provide better results over time. I believe that with further research, we could not only find out what is causing Alzheimer s and its increase, but we can also find ways to help those inflicted with this ... • 4. My Road Trip I have been on many road trips in my life. For as long as I can remember, summer vacation was piling in the car and driving across the country, setting up camp wherever we went. I would watch my mom in the weeks and months before it, carefully planning every step of the way, even though it would often come unravelling halfway through. The best part of vacations are the improvised parts, whether it s taking a day trip to Disney World, the tickets bought the day before, driving down to San Francisco for no good reason, or watching a movie in a tiny movie theater on a day that it rained. Planning is crucial, I learned, but you should never expect anything to be set in stone. My theoretical road trip would be taken with my two sisters and last ten days, and would be a mad dash west towards California, which has many wonderful National Parks for us to camp in. The National Park system is a wonderfully western phenomenon, and throughout the states west of the Appalachians, there is an amazing diversity of places to camp and hike in. There will hopefully be no hotels on this trip, only tents. We will have two hundred dollars put aside for grocery shopping, which we will use to buy food that we will cook with. There will also be another three hundred set aside for eating out. There will also be four hundred dollars for emergencies, whether that be a car breakdown or staying in a hotel. For our ten day trip, we will have to pay for a campsite each night. The practical and wonderful thing about camping is that the average campsite costs only ten dollars, so that will only cost us about one hundred dollars. Hiking, our main activity on the trip, will cost us nothing as well. My family also owns a pass that gets us into National Parks for free, so that will cost us nothing. The car we will take is an Hyundai Elantra, which has been highly reliable in the past, and the average cost of gas per mile is twelve cents. Lucy and I will switch driving, while Sadie will be in charge of navigation, using atlases and Google Maps. The first day of the trip, we will leave Kansas early in the morning and drive all the way to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. In the usual traffic, this trip will take approximately ten hours ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Rampart Scandal The Rampart Scandal When officers from the Los Angeles Police Department s Internal Affairs bureau began shadowing Rafael Perez, watching their fellow cop steal massive amounts of cocaine from evidence lockers in order to sell it on the street, investigators thought they had a major misconduct case on their hands. They didn t know the half of it. The perception of the Los Angeles Police Department has ranged from being the best police force in the United States to being a blatant racist agency. The scandals that have surrounded the agency have taken a toll on the image of the department, The Rampart scandal added to community mistrust of the LAPD, overturned 100 criminal cases, cost the city upwards of tens of millions of dollars in ... From the Chief of Police down to the sergeants, this means taking a firm stand against the bad guys on the force and employing all the instruments available training, discipline, assignments, and promotion... We recommend a new standard of accountability (1991, xiii xiv) The Rampart Scandal It is difficult to fathom that a scandal so large, with grand implications not only for the LAPD but for urban law enforcement in general, was ignited by one man s attempt to save his own skin. Back in 1999, confronted by the evidence Internal Affairs had against him, the officer sought to cut a deal. In exchange for a sweetheart sentence and immunity against further prosecution, he would tell them about misconduct at the forces Rampart division. Perez talked for more than 50 hours, telling the investigators not only about police pushing drugs, but also about officers routinely beating up civilians, framing suspects, and killing alleged gang members without provocation. If the severity of the misconduct was not shocking enough, Perez also claimed that such behavior was commonplace in his entire division the Rampart station unit of an elite anti gang program called CRASH ... • 6. Alienation And Anomie Essay Both concepts of alienation and anomie signify how individualism has impacted the social structures through industrialization and the division of labour. Both Marx and Durkheim s theories emphasize the relationships between people in society and how this impacts on separateness and individualism within it; however, both theories are different. Where Marx is concerned he focuses on being alienated as a result of materialized matter through the bourgeoisie alienating oneself from culture, for Durkheim anomie is due to the lack of a collective conscience within society preventing both regulation and integration of culture; for Durkheim this negatively impacts on social solidarity and cohesion. Alienation occurred after the periods of slavery and serfdom arose a capitalist society, workers selling their labour skills in order to earn a living wage. In comparison to feudal societies where wealth was inherited, capitalist societies through the bourgeoisie was about owning the means of production enabling them to own private property and this being wealth. However, the cost price of the goods produced was significantly higher than the labourer s wages resulting in a profit for the bourgeoisie, this being the method of attaining wealth. The capitalist mode of production generates its wealth through exploitation of the proletariat. Karl Marx (1970) stated ...the accumulation of wealth at one pole of society involves a simultaneous accumulation of poverty, labour torment, slavery, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Central Nervous System For Spinal Cord Injuries Introduction: The central nervous system is what connects the brain to the muscles of the body. When a patient has an injury to the spinal cord, movements in certain parts of the body will be affected based on the location of the injury. If the injury affects hand motion then many day to day tasks are affected. This literature review seeks to understand how an injury to the spinal cord impacts movement, and what has been done so far to help those affected by spinal cord injuries. Methods: The information in this literature review was collected from an expert interview and the search databases Science Direct, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The expert for the expert interview was selected based on experience with designing prosthetics for individuals that had lost their hand and potentially part of their arm (Birdwell, 2016). The databases were searched using keywords spinal cord injury , hand movement , and fine motor movement . In PubMed the selection was also narrowed down by selecting only studies done on humans. New terminology was searched through science direct due to the built in function that allows for key words from the article to be selected for further information from multiple books or journals. Results: How a healthy body transmits signals: Precision hand motions are controlled by the motor cortex (M1) and the corticospinal system. (Perez, 2015). The corticospinal system is also known as the pyramidal tracts. It is the upper motor neurons that go to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Growing Critiques of MBA Programs Recently critiques about MBA programs have increased in number. Many believe that management education focuses on learning of managerial skills that are needed in current ever changing business environment. Research conducted in the past suggested that individuals with a Master s degree in Business Administration generally perform better in managerial positions than those who do not hold an MBA degree (Baruch Peiperl, 2000). In a dissenting view however, the author noted that an MBA qualification does not adequately equip students with both soft and hard skills which are needed for effective management. In addition, Researchers argue that in management education, the soft skills are ignored and the hard skills are emphasized. Empirical studies (Boyatzis Renio, 1989) demonstrated that MBA programme has significant positive effect on graduates managerial competencies but they contend that did not appear effective in enhancing soft skills. In overall view, an assessment of how MBA graduates fared after attaining MBA degree, led (Sturges, Simpson, Altman, 2003) to deduce that the graduates become more effective managers who display self confidence, people management and team working skills. In their study on the motivators of choosing a management course, Nyaribo, Prakash Owino, (2012), concluded that MBA education should combine explicit knowledge of the basic disciplines with the tacit knowledge that comes from practice in order to provide MBA graduates with a ... • 9. The Harlem Renaissance Of The 1920s Hues are properties of light by which colors of objects are classified in reference to the spectrum. As people, we decide what hue is intriguing, how it makes us feel, and unfortunately how it makes us different. We are calmed by the blueness of water, and we are awakened by the yellowness of the sun. It was not until the evil intentions of slavery crossed mankind s thoughts that hue became our downfall, our separator. White supremacy eroded the idea of equality, and darker hues began to symbolize worthlessness, inferiority, and ugliness. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s evoked the idea of black consciousness and pride. It was a movement established to express black literature, art, music, and culture. Blacks began to wear their dark hue like a badge of honor. Art, literature, and music became the centerpieces of black expression and culture. Blacks began to see themselves as equals in their quest for status, fame, and acceptance from Whites. However, racism was still abundant, lynches still occurred, and Blacks were still just as inferior as before. To make matters worse, segregation still existed, but the color line was not only a separation of black and white; it became a separation of black and black. Artist associated with the Harlem Renaissance, such as Zora Neale Hurston, James Weldon Johnson, Claude McKay, and Jessie Fauset, often told stories of the other with the purpose of gaining the attention of white Americans. • 10. Margaret Sanger Birth Control Movement Margaret Sanger s Contributions to Nursing Through her Birth Control Movement Margaret Louise Sanger, a nurse in the early mid 1900s, was the first to promote and spread information regarding birth control. She was passionate about women having the right to their decision of bearing children. She also wanted women to be educated about the risks involved and informed about methods of birth control. Sanger did not have many male supporters; however, she used her perseverance to her advantage and continued to advocate her ideas to the public. Eventually, her thoughts and ideas made headway to magazines and newspapers, allowing the information to become public knowledge for any woman wanting to understand more about birth control. She not only wrote magazines and articles, she also opened several clinics and performed procedures on women wanting medical assistance that was denied by many doctors. Sanger s stance on birth control lead to various outbreaks and conflicts; however, her accomplishments overpowered her obstacles, and birth control is now a decision for women across the world (Knowles, 2009; Margaret, 2001; Margaret, 2017; Topics, 2015; Wardell, 1980). Biography Margaret Louise Sanger, a women s activist who initiated the U.S. birth control movement, was born in Corning, New York on September 14, 1879 (Margaret, 2001). For soccer players, the cause of their injured are running and kicking the ball all over the field and sometimes twist their ankle while running. Sometimes for soccer players while they have the ball the other team would sly kick the ball and miss; but when that person missed, the sly kick would hit the other player knee or ankle and it would result in the other person getting injured. However for football players, the only way to get injured is they would have to be tackle down by other players; if they want to get injured. Their chance of getting injured are very low ... Ban on the Usage of Cell Phone while Driving Cell phone ban while driving Many states in America according to their research have found out that use of cell phones in cars have contributed to several accidents as well as traffic violations and are now legislating rules and regulations on cell phone usage so as to create safer driving environment in the states hence reducing the number of accidents each and every day caused by use of cell phones while driving. Jennifer Clark (2012 ) indicates that teenage drivers were banned from any cell phone use while driving in Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Specific ages vary by state. Michigan bans cell phones for teens with probationary licenses in cases where the cell phone has resulted in an accident or traffic violation. The use of mobile phones in cars is one of several sources of driver distraction which contribute to road crashes and injuries to those both inside and outside the vehicle. According to research reported by Tom and Ray Magliozzi (n.d), Drivers are four times as likely to crash when talking on a phone 地nd three times as likely when talking on a hands free phone. This is occasioned by physical distractions when the driver has to use one or both hands to dial a number, answer or end a call, writing down telephone numbers, instead of concentrating on the physical ... • 13. Seasonal And Anthropogenic Changes In Edonesia Case Study Wendy Erb has been completing her research since 2005. Her research project had the aim of looking at flexible responses to seasonal and anthropomorphic changes in primates. She focuses on the environment of the Southeast Asian rainforests. This is due to the presence of dramatic supra annual masting cycles with peaks in fruit 2 5 times the normal abundance. The forest experiences severe El niño effects meaning irregular global climates. The impact is also due to the severe drought resulting in widespread forest fires and haze. In Indonesia rainfall decreases up to 60% compared to normal recordings. The research objective was to analyze how seasonal they are with predictions of low birth seasonality. Simakobu s are medium sized colobines with a 6.6 month estimated gestation time. The typical living groups are one male, three females, two juveniles and one to two infants. Data was collected from 2006 to 2008, 373 census days with 11 births and 1787 feeding points. Infant groups were measured for size, motor skills and colour against a three point scale. Siberut ecology displays no distinct annual variation, the climate is warm and wet with an absence of dry season. Fruit is available nine months out of the whole year. Simokubu feeding is characterized by strong annual variation with fruit intake peaking in June and September. Simokobu reproduction exhibits moderate annual variation and a moderate peak in October. The conceptions coincided with peaks in unripe fruit as there is high costs in lactation due to costs of the physical environment. The seasonal effects are because of the environmental seasonality due to the preference of fruit. Giving birth occurs approximately six months after fruit availability peaks. This happens due to conceiving occurring at good condition which supports the idea of Simakobu s being capital breeders. Without any research an average person would think that water and oil would evaporate at the same rate since they are both liquids. Through research, science shows that due to their density oil will take longer to evaporate since it has more mass. Does the amount of density in the liquids make them all evaporate at the same rate? All liquids do not evaporate at the same rate because denser liquids take longer to evaporate. Why does water evaporate? Evaporation is a very important part of the water cycle. Heat from the sun, or solar energy, powers the evaporation process. How fast will different liquids evaporate? If liquids can evaporate and have a rate when they do then nail polish ... Immigration And The United States Immigration is one of the most heated topics in the U.S. political and social agenda and usually evokes strong polar opinions in the American society, in part due to its complex composition of peoples and cultures. It is precisely due to this fact, that the interpreters and translators working in the field of Immigration must be familiar not only with the basic types of immigration hearings, but have an understanding of the history of Immigration in the United States, different types of visas and statuses as well as paths to Permanent Residency and Citizenship. HISTORY OF IMMIGRATION The United States of America has a rich immigration history, dating back to the 18th century, where there were virtually no immigration restrictions, making the U.S. a kaleidoscope of ethnic and cultural groups it is today. Following the Civil War, several U.S. states made initial attempts in regulating immigration, which led to the 1875 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to make the immigration a federal responsibility, thus launching a chain of Immigration laws and regulations leading us to today. The first immigration law, the Page Act of 1875 (aka the Asian Exclusion Act) was passed in 1875 and prohibited the importation of Asian contract workers, any Asian women who would engage in prostitution and everybody who is considered to be a convict in their own county. The Page Act of 1875 was followed by the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, which prohibited Chinese contract laborers to immigrate to the United States, as well as Alien Contract Labor laws of 1885 and 1887, both of which broadened the laborers exclusion list. Soon after, the increasingly complex immigration laws established by the federal government led to the creation of the Office of the Superintendent of Immigration within the Treasure Department. The newly organized government office inspected, admitted or rejected as well as processed all the newly arriving immigrants. • 16. Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants Should the United States Grant amnesty to immigrants who came here illegally? By: Chris Myers Should the U.S. grant amnesty to immigrants who came here illegally? The answer to this question is yes, they should. What s wrong with granting amnesty to hard working, tax paying individuals whose only crime is their immigration status? Amnesty is not only the best solution to our immigration problem, it is the only feasible solution. Here are some reasons to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants now. Immigration is good for the economy. Despite all the fuss about immigrants stealing jobs, immigration actually provides a benefit to the economy, whether those immigrants crossed the border legally or not. Why you ask? Because of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While illegal immigration is a crime, the act of crossing the border without authorization is a mere misdemeanor. Immigrants, in fact, may help drive crime down. The vast majority want to stay in the country in order to work, so they naturally steer clear of breaking any laws. And as The Future of Freedom Foundation s Sheldon Richman pointed out a few years ago, all manners of violent crimes dropped dramatically since 1986, the last time an amnesty was granted to illegal immigrants. Yes, 14 percent of federal inmates are illegal immigrants, but they are largely there for immigration violations. On the state level, Richman notes, less than 5 percent of inmates are illegal immigrants. Not exactly the makings of a crime wave. An important one would be that immigration is a natural right. Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that immigration is a natural right. What does that mean? A natural right is a right inherent to our humanity, and the freedom of movement is such a right. The idea that immigration needs to be authorized by the government flies in the face of that freedom. Immigrants who come to America seeking the opportunity to work and pursue happiness, or those brought here at too young an age to have any say in the matter, ought to be able to stay to pursue those opportunities. The act was one of the most important pieces of legislation in American history, outlawing discrimination of not only blacks, but women, in terms of voting, public education, and workplaces. The passing of this act was a catalyst for social reform, and racial and sexual acceptance. Although delayed and incredibly late, Lincoln and the United States government eventually granted and ensured all American citizens the same freedoms that still exist in the country today. A prime example of the freedom afforded to citizens can be seen through the exploits of the immensely controversial Westboro Baptist Church. The church, according to the Anti Defamation League, is a small virulently homophobic, anti Semitic hate group that regularly stages protests around the country (Extremism in America 1). The modern myth we have grown to love stems from the medieval picture of a flesh eating wolf man in league with the Devil, which only barely resembles the werewolf stories of a pre Christian Europe. Many African American activist fought and died for our equality such as Fredrick Douglas, Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcom X, Rosa Parks, and Emmitt Teel. One solution that Middlebury College in Vermont has thought of would be to lower the drinking age. This technique would be useful because kids would be able to drink in more open environments and not have to hide what they are inevitably going to do. This is productive because in the open environments, they can be monitored and if anything goes wrong a responsible person will be there to help. This idea of an 18 year old drinking age is not too plausible because if a state were to lower the drinking age, the federal government would take away millions of dollars in highway funding. The federal government has good reason to take away funding. In 51 B.C., Ptolemy XII died, leaving the throne to 18 year old Cleopatra and her brother, the 10 year old Ptolemy XIII. It is likely that the two siblings married, as was customary at the time. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area. Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the idea would permit it. Anais is expounding upon the inconsistency all people have in aspects of their personalities. Some days a person may be hailed as a saint for their actions, while other days they seem absolutely evil.
