The Market Economy By Marge Piercy
The bizarre economy that we live in has affected us in many ways than our simple mind can fathom.
After World War II there was massive push in innovation. Human were gifted with inventions like the
Airplane, color T.V., polyvinyl cups, and precooked dinners. Nevertheless, these gifts came at an
enormous cost. That cost was pushed onto the environment and people living in that environment. The
Market Economy by Marge Piercy illustrates the movement in American aimed at bring attention to a
global problem as well as an effort to save the planet along with the people living on it.
Marge Piercy was born in 1936 which placed her birth at the end of The Great Depression.(History
Channel) This also let her grow up in the Golden Age of America where the United States of America
had the highest GDP per capita, people could easily find jobs you work in a new plastic (line17) With
all of new economic opportunities that happened during this time period also brought people out of the
country fresh air into more modern factories that populated the environment. and there was a massive
population boom happening. Also with a population increasing people moved outside of the cities and
in to the suburbs. This boom in population was mostly in the middle class where families spent money
on buying thing like Color T.V, polyvinyl cups, precooked meals and other home goods to less than
burden of doing house course, and increasing the leisure times. Some of the cost of goods was not

A Case Study For Week Three Centers On A Liability And...
The case study selected for week three centers on a liability and assumption of risk case study. In this
case study, Brent Thomas and George Banks are facing liability charges after Ricky Watts sustained a
serious injury during hockey practice (Essex, 2016). In this situation, Thomas is the school principal,
and Banks is the hockey coach as well as the gym teacher (Essex, 2016). Ricky obtained injuries after
improperly blocking the puck (Essex, 2016). This case study was selected because it highlights a
situation that will likely be faced by all future school leaders. Sports are popular among students, and
there is inherent risk in each sporting event. A school is open to liability if they do not ensure that
proper protocols are met. Responding to Case Study Questions
Question 1: What factors would determine whether the principal may be liable (Essex, 2016)?
In order to prove Thomas liable in this situation, there would have to be evidence of proximate cause
(Essex, 2016). The student, or student s family, would need to be able to prove that there is a
relationship between the principal s breach of duty, and the injury the student suffered (Essex, 2016). I
have dedicated the remainder of this paragraph to describing the ways in which Thomas may be in
breach of his duty. Thomas has the responsibility as the school principal to ensure that Homewood
High School has highly qualified teachers. It is his responsibility to recommend to the board the
person best suited for the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dishwasher Detergents
If you ve ever attempted to churn out homemade dishwasher detergent and have ended up
disappointed with the outcome, the possibility is that you were very close to creating a superb recipe
than you had expected of. Majority of the DIY formulas are done with the very same components,
however, there lies a trick that you can leverage to make it work.
The thing is, cleaners like washing soda are taken under consideration as a base, while the
accumulation removers such as citric acid happen to be... well.. acid. Though both of these ingredients
are crucial for a quality recipe, they will neutralize each other if you use both of them simultaneously.
Several homemade recipes blend them together, though they are peak performers when used
separately.
Let me show you an analogy: Hot water happens to be relaxing and soothing, while cold happens to be
invigorating and freshening. But, while you blend the two, you get the outcome tepid water and throw
off benefits give by both of them. So, the question rises, what is a quality dishwasher detergent made
of?
Majority of the commercial detergents utilize 50% washing soda at the least in their ingredient recipe.
The remaining components are typicallly rinse aids and water softeners.
Unluckily, the additional component in majority of the big name detergents this one, for instance
receives an F by the EWG due to aspects like regenerative and developmental toxicity, environmental
toxicity, respiratory concerns as well as

Polar Bear Research Papers
The animal that I have chosen to study is the polar bear the Latin name for the polar bear is Urus
Maritimus. They are a mammal which means that they give birth to live young and provide milk for
their offspring when born (Defenders of wildlife, 2014). The polar bear is a predatory animal and is
the top of the food chain in the Artic, its main consumption of food are seals (both bearded and ringed
usually) they will also eat walrus and any whale carcasses that may be laying around as they are
opportunistic feeders (National geographic, 2014). Polar bears travel along way in order to find their
prey, however if they are not able to find the animal they need; occasionally they will eat vegetation
that is available to them along the way (live science, 2014). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If the polar bear had to swim after their prey this would tire them out and they would most likely fail
to catch their prey in order to consume it anyway. So the Ice caps are a polar bears hunting technique
(BBC, 2014). Over the years scientists have found that there are around 19 populations of polar bear I
four different ice regions throughout the artic. Polar bears have evolved over time and have adapted
well to the extreme temperatures in the Artic unlike their land based ancestors (National geographic,
2014).Polar bears have particularly small ears to minimise heat loss, the smaller their ears are the less
surface area there is (Endangered polar bear, 2013). Polar bears have also adapted to having a massive
and extremely padded paws in order to protect them from the icy floors and a full, thick, fur coat; to
protect them from the harsh weathers that living in the artic brings (polar bears international,

The Stages Of Cognitive Development
Children grow through a chain of four serious stages of cognitive development, according to Jean
Piaget, who is a well recognized psychologist. Through the observations he made of children, Piaget
established a theory of development involving four stages: the sensorimotor stage, which is from birth
to the age 2, the preoperational stage, from age 2 to about the age of 7 and the concrete operational
stage, ranging from age 7 to 11. The last stage of his development was the formal operational stage,
which begins in adolescence and spans into adulthood (The 4 stages). Piaget said the most outstanding
features of behavior happen within the first 2 years of children lives. The child s world cannot be
showed mentally, so in a very literal sense, articles exist only when the child can physically see them
for themselves. When objects are not seen by them, then they to fail to even exist to the child. This
shows the idea of object permanence to the child, which is knowing the solidity of an object.
The Sensorimotor stage is measured by children facing the world through senses that they use every
day. The children s thoughts are egocentric, which means that they cannot understand or see the world
through someone else s perspective other than their own (Jean Piaget). Infants start to learn the world
through their own movements and sensations every day. Learning everyday activities such as sucking,
grasping, and looking help in this stage of development. Children learn that things

Nagel s Epistemological Skepticism Summary
Assignment 8 Philosophy
Nagel uses skepticism to give insight into why people perceive various aspects of life to be absurd. He
compares epistemological skepticism and the absurdity of life by looking in depth how
epistemological skepticism funtions1. Nagel exhibits the behavior of a nihilist and characterises
human actions as meaningless because no matter what we do, we all die in the end so it does not
matter1. Even in the scenario that human actions in the present may impact human life in the future,
Nagel believes that this doesn t define its meaning illustrated in his quote: Furthermore, even if what
we do now does matter in a distant future, how does that prevent our present actions from being
absurd?1 This idea can also be represented in the ideas of truth being a subjective reality and truth ...

Truth as subjective reality refers to what your mind perceives to be truth whereas truth as an objective
reality is that truth is universal for everyone. Nagel as well as other nihilists reject the idea that truth is
an objective reality as he does not believe that human life has actual meaning other than what one
perceives it to be. This distinction relates back to epistemological skepticism as it also questions
objective reality in favor of subjective reality. This connects back to Descartes as he employed
epistemological skepticism in his second meditation2. He thought of a scenario where a demon
deceiver was manipulating the world around him in order to draw false conclusions to lead him astray
from real truth2. This idea is extremely comparable to Nagel s thoughts since Descartes uses
epistemological skepticism in order to question and combat the idea of truth as an objective reality.
While this analogy is very comparable, Descartes and Nagel have many prominent differences in their
ideas. The most obvious difference would be how religion factors into Descartes

Aboriginal Self Government Essays
Assignment: 1
Aboriginal Self Government
Aboriginal self government is a long standing issue that continues to be a struggle for the First Nations
People. To truly understand the scope of Aboriginal self government within First Nations
communities, more effort is needed to understand the legislative system that runs Canada. This issue
of self governance has been very destructive in First Nations communities. After signing the Treaties,
First Nations People was stripped of their livelihood and from that point on to abide by the Dominion
of Canadas legislative policies. One current issue that would be a perfect example is the Nisga People

The federal government has a great deal of power that will ultimately alter how First Nations are dealt

shortly after initial contact with Europeans settlers, have limited the possibilities of easily exercising
Aboriginal self government in Canada [5]. Once the first wave of settles arrived in North America, the
Dominion of Canada created the power to control how settlers and resources were handled which left
them also having to deal with the original inhabitants by means isolation in reserves. To look back into

Sample Letter For The Brochure
Unit 12 Evaluation for the Brochure
The aim of the brochure was to inform the tourists about the best places to visit Newcastle upon Tyne.
I included information about Nightlife, Shopping, Entertainment and Food, which I included with
useful information. I am not allowed to use the font style Arial and Times New Roman. Also, the other
decisions, which were made will be specified whilst I am discussing the pages.
After the initial client meeting and subsequent meetings for designs I began work on the CRC of the
document.
I will evaluate the layout and content of my brochure against the client brief and the questionnaire,
which I gave the client to answer. The page layout for each page is A4. At first I divided the pages into
three section, this made it more appealing and stand out. This is through including images,
information and designing the page. The purpose of this is because I wanted to ensure the information
and the sizes of the images fills the page. This is because I wanted to make it more different and
appealing, which is significant. The information is placed in a rectangular or square box and it fits the
whole A4 page. The purpose of this was to make it stand out, which would encourage the reader s to
carry on reading the brochure. The point size of the texts varies this depends if it is the subheading,
heading or body text and this is to make some information stand out more than others. For instance,

The novel Robinson Crusoe is a story of man s shipwreck on a deserted island and his subsequent
adventures (Learnify). The novel is based on the story of the Scottish crewman Alexander Selkirk,
who was once shipwrecked on the Juan Fernandez Islands and spent four years (Learnify). Defoe s
broad experience from his broad business travel throughout Continental Europe allowed him to write
imaginative plot. This story has been translated and read by many people from its publication date.
Published in 1719, Robinson Crusoe is often named as the first English novel (Allen 578). Defoe

I Will Explore The Painting Wo Ist Ein Zigarrengeschaft...
Colour can be defined as the result of light hitting an object and its resulting perception based on the
physics of sight or the eye. Artist have been theorising and implementing colour and colour
relationships for many years, and through many artist/art movements. Successful use and
understanding of colour can elevate a particular piece of art far beyond any that do not successfully
implement colour and its various elements. For this essay I will explore the painting Wo ist Ein
Zigarrengeschäft (1954) by Jean Phillipe Dallaire(Fig 1 3). In this exploration I will examine aspects
of this painting which include Dallaire s use of form, and colour. While also considering briefly
Dallaire s painting in in comparison to Jean Dubuffet s, painting The Dandy (1954)(Fig 4). Both
paintings originate from the same era with two artist interpretations of colour and form, and two sets
of techniques. Before considering the painting itself I will examine the artist himself, as this will help
in understanding his painting, Wo ist Ein Zigarrengeschäft (1954). Jean Dallaire (1916 1965), is a
Canadian artist who was known for his work as a painter, illustrator, and professor. His work is
considered as expressive with the use of festive images, shapes, colour and form, where the real and
the imaginary come together in a visual experience (Cheff, 2008). Jean attended art classes in both
Canada and the united states, but his practice was built on mainly self teaching.

The Argument On World War Z
Evaluative Argument on World War Z
The movie World War Z is a zombie apocalyptic horror film directed by Marc Forster. The movie was
loosely based off of Max Brook s novel of the same name. Overall, it accrued positive reviews with a
successful box office. Steve Persall applauded its aesthetic features, as it offers vivid images of what
these monsters are about and what they re capable of doing . Matt Zoller Seitz disagrees as if someone
watched the similar 28 Days Later and thought, That was a good movie, but it would be better if it
cost $200 million . The reviews generally agree that it is an action movie as the zombies twitch, leap,
gnash, and destroy (Chris Cabin Slant Magazine). But they disagree on the appropriate rating and
whether the film was overall satisfying in producing something new. It is balanced in violence and
gore but keeps it friendly and evades images of blood and gore (Chris Cabin). Its category is science
fiction horror and action film where it involves with special effects and horror aesthetics meant to
evoke awe. World War Z is a good film and is packed with action, suspense, horror, and visual appeal.
The action within the movie is very fast paced, and it begins during a normal commute in
Philadelphia. Gerry Lane (portrayed by Brad Pitt) and his family fight to leave the congested streets
with exponentially growing infected lurking about. Gerry fends off hordes of zombies as he navigates

tragedy in which a family of four living out on a secluded farm were slaughtered with a shotgun by the
collaboration of two individuals for a seemingly few dollars. In this novel, Capote gives a thorough
character description of the two murderers, Richard Hickock and Perry Smith, as he recreates their

personality characteristics and brief histories of Hickock and Smith, this essay will address this
assertion with the two in question as individuals themselves, within their relationship to each other,
and also as other characters see and analyze their psychological well being.
The reader gets to know Perry Smith very well throughout the novel and acquires the sense that
Capote feels sympathetic to his situation as compared to that of Hickock. Smith, introduced as much

The Louisiana Science Education Act Essay
In the United States, evolution and creationism remain a controversial issue as far as which method
should stay in science classes across the globe. How was the earth created? How were humans
created? These are questions that arise in most science classes. Many students require an explanation
of why people exist. There are those who would oppose evolution, and there are those who oppose
creationism. Is there a significant difference between these methods? Several states have passed
regulations that allow schools to teach both evolution and creationism. The Louisiana Science
Education Act, in particular, is a highly controversial debate. The act allows teachers to teach
adscititious materials in the classroom. Many opponents are looking to repeal this law. The Louisiana
Science Education Act should not be repealed as it allows the student to engage in critical thinking
skills, acknowledge both theories and ultimately decide which theory they believe.
Looking back at our history creationism was the first explanation of why humans exist today. Since
the beginning of time Christianity has played a significant role in religion. Christianity started in
Jerusalem and expanded into many different denominations across the world. Therefore, Christianity
is a religion based off of Jesus Christ and God the creator of the earth. Creationism stemmed from
several religions and is the belief that a higher being or deity created everything living thing in nature

Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction Lab Report
In this experiment, an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction was performed through the addition
of a nitro group to bromobenzene. The experiment uses the nitronium ion, NO2+, which acts as an
electrophile to replace a hydrogen atom in the aromatic system of bromobenzene. The bromine
substituent on the benzene introduces the possibility of isomers from the reaction with the nitronium
ion: NO2+ can be positioned in the ortho position (making 1 bromo 2 nitrobenzene), the meta position
(making 1 bromo 3 nitrobenzene), or the para position (making 1 bromo 4 nitrobenzene). There is also
a chance that poly nitration can occur to produce dinitrobenzene. Since nitro groups are deactivators, it
requires high temperatures to add another nitro group to the benzene ring. To prevent this poly
substitution from occurring, it is important to control the rate of the reaction by monitoring the
temperature during the reaction (the temperature should not exceed 60oC). By controlling the
temperature, there is insufficient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nitric acid, HNO3, does not act as a strong enough electrophile on its own. It needs the assistance of
sulfuric acid, H2SO4. Sulfuric acid, a strong acid, protonates the oxygen that is part of the hydroxy
group on nitric acid to make it a good leaving group. The leaving group (water) departs from the
molecule, leaving the nitronium ion. The nitronium ion is a stronger electrophile than nitric acid and
can nitrate bromobenzene. Bromobenzene was added to the mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid
dropwise through a water cooled condenser to prevent the reaction mixture from overheating.
Overheating of the reaction mixture could lead to poly substitution. To prevent overheating, the
temperature of the mixture was maintained to be under 55oC. The acid mixture was swirled to make

Rescue During The Holocaust Essay
The dictionary definition of rescue is to save someone from a harmful, dangerous, or violent situation.
This perfectly describes rescue during the holocaust because many people were being saved during a
very harmful, dangerous, and violent event. Rescue was a very critical part of the holocaust that
people need to learn about the importance and the examples of rescue during the holocaust. There
were a few key parts of holocaust rescue: dangers of rescue, famous and less famous rescues, specific
details of rescues, and persecution of rescuers. The holocaust was a terrible event that showed how
some humans can be violent and cruel. It also though showed how humans can also be great, helpful
and safe lives in life taking situations. Rescue during the holocaust was a very critical point of the
holocaust because of famous attempts and dangers that were overcome.

Some survivors survived not by being rescued but by being hidden (Dornsife). Rescue activities
involved seemingly simple acts, such as finding and securing hiding places for families, and more

Many rescue attempts included national embassies, diplomats in countries throughout Europe helped

The Software Development Life Cycle
The Software Development Life Cycle is a model, which consists of multiple steps or phases. This
model is used for the development of software or application. The purpose of SDLC is to make
software more efficient and effective. The life cycle typically has six phases. It starts with analysis and
design phase, then the implementation/ construction phase, testing phase, release or deployment phase
and ends with maintenance phase. The analysis phase determines why the need for the software arose,
the deliverables or outcome expected from the software or system and also identifies the various
requirements for the development. It is very important to involve users, stakeholders and working
engineers in this phase, to ensure that the Why criteria is thoroughly fleshed out. A well worked out
analysis phase will help developers and architects to successfully work on the given requirements in
the design phase. The design phase might also involve building several use cases and building
prototypes for users. Design can be logical design, physical design or architectural design. In the
construction phase, physical construction is done to complete the software (i.e. programming,
hardware, software and so on). The implementation phase turns the design into an actual product. The
next phase tests the software for possible vulnerabilities and bugs. This is to ensure that the product is
safe from possible security breach. The product is tested in the real world to see if it functions as

The Pros And Cons Of Cryonics
Cryonics will not be possible in the future. People today view cryonics as unorthodox, but it will be a
matter of is it worth it to spend $200,000 ($400 every year) to have a full body suspension or even
$80,000 for a brain suspension when one may only be partially cognitive(being able to be conscious or
fully aware). With the rapid increase in technology, theoretically, cryonics is possible, but only if we
are talking about a materialistic point of view. The idea is to be able to download a brain onto a
computer. The process is flawed because the cooling of the body damages part of the brain. With the
damaged part of the brain, one could lose personality, knowledge, speech, and many other aspects of
oneself (Harris). From a Christian standpoint, one could argue that it is useless to do such a thing
because why would one want to come back from heaven? From a secular point of view, it seems that
this is the answer to many problems. Immortality, sickness, epidemics, and extinction are all things
that could come about or be prevented.
While the process of downloading one s mind onto a computer seems difficult to understand, one must
know the process of being cryogenically frozen. First, the body must be taken while ... Show more

costume alterations, preordering tights in my skin tone, and dyeing my pointe shoes with makeup. I
recognized that many times I am the minority in the room and I will always be noticed for being
different. until this change it is important to me to show that I put in effort to look professional as well
as accept my uniqueness. I am not trying to blend in but rather be a visual note of how often minorities
are over looked in ballet by being forced to fit in. being proud of my uniqueness goes beyond just me.
my hope is to see more minorities in the dance world. This past year I stared an organization for
minorities in dance (La A.M.I.D) the purpose of this organization is to educate, empower, and bring
exposure to those underrepresented in the dance world. As I build my brand, I would like to challenge
dance designers to make dance wear more inclusive to various body types and skin

Retrograde Amnesia
Retrograde amnesia is a loss of memory access to events that occurred, or information that was
learned, before the injury of the diagnosis of the disease. The writer of this article goes through some
of the factors of which he knows and thinks are important in explaining functional deficits associated
with retrograde amnesia. I will be focusing on a few which are Functional Domains, Time of Onset,
and Patients Age. The functional domains that lie within the province of retrograde memory need to be
clearly specified. During a person s lifetime we build up an enormous store of knowledge, experience,
and skills. The article states that Until recent years, it has most commonly been used to refer to the

Rejection of Existentialism Essays
In his defense of existentialism, Sartre first defines the unifying factor of existentialism, (for both
atheist and deist alike), as the belief that existence precedes essence. To help illustrate his point he
presents the example of a paper knife, an object that possess a set of qualities that enable it to carry out
its purpose. He states that it would not have been created without a particular purpose, therefore its
essence precedes its existence. (Sartre) Sartre rejects this idea when it comes to mankind and declares
that humans in themselves have no nature and define themselves after coming into existence. This
stems from his atheistic worldview, in which the rejection of a higher power leads him to accept the
fact that humans are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory opposes Sartre by stating that humans were not the first to exist, nonetheless the first
higher functioning organism. If the human essence follows its existence and then gives meaning to
life, this is to say that every life form that existed before humanity was of no meaning or had no
purpose. If everything in the world is defined by the meaning humanity ascribes to it, then the world
pre humanity, by default would be meaningless or nonexistent.
From a creationist stand point, existentialism is challenged in a similar aspect. It begs us to ask the
question where did humanity come from? . It is foolish to deny the fact that biologically, humans are
incredibly complex and had to have originated from somewhere, whether that be a higher power or a
series of mutations. Sartre s claim that humans were the first to exist leads us to accept that humans
are in a sense god or the first to exist without being bound by limits of time, space or reason. This in
itself is a contradiction seeing as how humans are mortal and definitely held within certain boundaries.
While existentialism is often closely associated with the idea of free will, I believe that humans can
have free will without believing that existence precedes essence. This brings me back to Sartre s paper
knife argument. While holistically, it is a simple object, it can be divided into thousands of
subcategories, from its physical properties to its molecular

City Dump Film Analysis
City Dump is a film that explains the City College of New York scandal, where players were curving
the game spread and being paid for it. A majority of the interviews conducted in the film were not
those of whom were on the team and partook in the scandal, but rather journalists and other players
who weren t part of it. This is accepted a legitimate criticism of the film. In order to portray the effect
this incident had on the player, interviews with them would be appropriate. But, it makes sense that
the filmmakers did not interview them because it could ve potentially hurt the case they made in 1951.
Additionally, they didn t want to make a bad situation worse. Adolph Rupp was one of the most

Relationship Between Animals And Human Culture
When was the last time you were down on your knees, worshipping a cat? What about burning a
sacred goat as a gift for the gods? In our contemporary American culture, you may not see very much
of this, but believe it or not, it was a vital part of some cultures in ancient societies. Throughout
history, animals have appeared to be a significant component of culture, either economically,
religiously, spiritually, mythically, and other ways. Animals are of high significance and importance to
culture, and without their rich symbolic essence, perhaps various cultures would have died out. In this
essay, I will explore the tightly bonded relationship between animals and human cultures through
multiple perspectives and practices around the world: in the Native American culture, Hindu religion,
ancient Egyptian society, and the worship of animals through sacrifice in ancient Greece. Native
Americans are notoriously known for obtaining a culture that is widely sustained off of both revering
and resourcefully using animals. Indigenous American tribes heavily relied upon animals for survival,
and without that ingenuity, their culture would have likely failed to survive. Animals had to be treated
properly because they could represent spirits, as well as plants which could give evidence of the
supernatural and the land which could reveal God. Tim Murphy, Ph.D., wrote in his essay, Probing the
Relationship between Native Americans and Ecology. Therefore, this closely bound relationship

Strategic It Changes, Predicted Benefits, And Opportunity...
6. HBL Strategic IT Changes, Predicted Benefits, and Opportunity Cost:
Strategic HR ideas are difficult to implement as the HBL s HR system is outdated when compared to
the relatively newly established banks within the country. HBL engaged IBM s consultants to provide
them a new system. This system was capable of functionalities including:
An employee can see his/her basic data which includes basic profile, previous performance review,
annual leave, payroll, academic and professional qualifications, vocational training and archived of
achievements on various projects employees have worked during the number of years.
The objective to implement such ERP system was to develop a skills data bank within HR department
that can make it self sufficient for future work related resource allocations and could direct the leaders
into the right way to utilize the workforce as per their specialist skills. As per top management
predictions, once implemented the system could generate quantifiable synergies and a resultant
competitive advantage over rivals. The software could also be used for budgetary controls over
recruitment costs and help to identify the short term and long term employee training needs without
any policy constraints HBL currently have due to its bureaucratic culture. This way the bank could
have developed the swift response to its future workforce needs and help strengthen the long term
business sustainability in line with its corporate objectives.

Subject: L2B Failure of the Oakland Bay Bridge
1. Introduction
This is a failure analysis report from the failure of the Oakland Bay Bridge. The San Francisco
Oakland Bay Bridge connects Oakland to San Francisco, and is separated into two parts through a
tunnel on the Yerba Buena Island, between the two cities. The bridge is famous for its double decker
design. On October 27, 2009, the repair of a piece called an eyebar ... Show more content on

The main concern was as to whether the failure had been the cause of assembly (welding) or the
materials and design used to repair the eyebar (Wilson, 2009). They concluded that the brace that had
been used for the repair moved more than had been intended in windy conditions due to the
dampening of vibrations on the joints (Wilson, 2009). On October 27, wind speeds were recorded at
higher than 50 mph (Alfrey, 2010). Due to this wind, the was an excess in vibrations happening inside
of the joints. This, and the temperature that day, and the amount of traffic at that time caused the
materials to fatigue quickly and eventually cause the fault (Reid,

Why Is Levi Coffin Considered An Abolitionist
Levi Coffin was a well known abolitionist, and a very important individual to the success of the
Underground Railroad. Dictionary.com describes an abolitionist as a person who tries to stop or get rid
of any law or practice that is harmful to the society ( Abolitionist ). Levi Coffin was that and much
more. He and most of the people involved in the Quaker religion believed that all men were equal and
it was his divine purpose to do everything in his power to help. Levi took it a bit further than most. He
was exposed to slavery at a young age and was taught by his family not to support it; he took those
teachings and applied them to various stages of his life; including his young adulthood, marriage and
retirement (Ludwig). Levi Coffin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

liquidated (Powell). Shortly after in 1822 Levi followed his brother in law Benjamin White to Indiana.
The persecution of Quakers had become unbearable in the Southern Territories. He lived with Mr.
White for about a year and then returned to North Carolina. He was convinced that Quakers and
slavery could not coexist and decided that he himself would move to Indiana ( Levi Coffin ,

In 1824, Coffin married Catherine White at the Hopewell Church in Guildford County. Four years
later in 1826 they moved to Newport, Indiana, which is now Fountain city (Powell). The couple s
move to Indiana was postponed when Catherine became pregnant with their first child, Jesse, the first
of six children to come. The Coffins opened a general store and Levi became a prosperous business
man. Soon after the family had relocated in Newport, they discovered they were on the path of the
Underground Railroad. The fugitives using the Underground Railroad generally stayed with those
colored people of the community and they more often than not did not reach their destination. (Coffin)

Human were gifted with inventions like the Airplane, color T.V., polyvinyl cups, and precooked dinners. Nevertheless, these gifts came at an enormous cost. • 3. A Case Study For Week Three Centers On A Liability And... The case study selected for week three centers on a liability and assumption of risk case study. In this case study, Brent Thomas and George Banks are facing liability charges after Ricky Watts sustained a serious injury during hockey practice (Essex, 2016). In this situation, Thomas is the school principal, and Banks is the hockey coach as well as the gym teacher (Essex, 2016). Ricky obtained injuries after improperly blocking the puck (Essex, 2016). This case study was selected because it highlights a situation that will likely be faced by all future school leaders. Sports are popular among students, and there is inherent risk in each sporting event. A school is open to liability if they do not ensure that proper protocols are met. Responding to Case Study Questions Question 1: What factors would determine whether the principal may be liable (Essex, 2016)? In order to prove Thomas liable in this situation, there would have to be evidence of proximate cause (Essex, 2016). The student, or student s family, would need to be able to prove that there is a relationship between the principal s breach of duty, and the injury the student suffered (Essex, 2016). I have dedicated the remainder of this paragraph to describing the ways in which Thomas may be in breach of his duty. • 6. The Stages Of Cognitive Development Children grow through a chain of four serious stages of cognitive development, according to Jean Piaget, who is a well recognized psychologist. Through the observations he made of children, Piaget established a theory of development involving four stages: the sensorimotor stage, which is from birth to the age 2, the preoperational stage, from age 2 to about the age of 7 and the concrete operational stage, ranging from age 7 to 11. The last stage of his development was the formal operational stage, which begins in adolescence and spans into adulthood (The 4 stages). Piaget said the most outstanding features of behavior happen within the first 2 years of children lives. The child s world cannot be showed mentally, so in a very literal sense, articles exist only when the child can physically see them for themselves. When objects are not seen by them, then they to fail to even exist to the child. This shows the idea of object permanence to the child, which is knowing the solidity of an object. The Sensorimotor stage is measured by children facing the world through senses that they use every day. The children s thoughts are egocentric, which means that they cannot understand or see the world through someone else s perspective other than their own (Jean Piaget). Infants start to learn the world through their own movements and sensations every day. Learning everyday activities such as sucking, grasping, and looking help in this stage of development. He compares epistemological skepticism and the absurdity of life by looking in depth how epistemological skepticism funtions1. Nagel exhibits the behavior of a nihilist and characterises human actions as meaningless because no matter what we do, we all die in the end so it does not matter1. Even in the scenario that human actions in the present may impact human life in the future, Nagel believes that this doesn t define its meaning illustrated in his quote: Furthermore, even if what we do now does matter in a distant future, how does that prevent our present actions from being absurd?1 This idea can also be represented in the ideas of truth being a subjective reality and truth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Truth as subjective reality refers to what your mind perceives to be truth whereas truth as an objective reality is that truth is universal for everyone. Nagel as well as other nihilists reject the idea that truth is an objective reality as he does not believe that human life has actual meaning other than what one perceives it to be. This distinction relates back to epistemological skepticism as it also questions objective reality in favor of subjective reality. This connects back to Descartes as he employed epistemological skepticism in his second meditation2. He thought of a scenario where a demon deceiver was manipulating the world around him in order to draw false conclusions to lead him astray from real truth2. This idea is extremely comparable to Nagel s thoughts since Descartes uses epistemological skepticism in order to question and combat the idea of truth as an objective reality. While this analogy is very comparable, Descartes and Nagel have many prominent differences in their ideas. The most obvious difference would be how religion factors into Descartes ... How was the earth created? How were humans created? These are questions that arise in most science classes. Many students require an explanation of why people exist. There are those who would oppose evolution, and there are those who oppose creationism. Is there a significant difference between these methods? • 17. Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction Lab Report In this experiment, an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction was performed through the addition of a nitro group to bromobenzene. The experiment uses the nitronium ion, NO2+, which acts as an electrophile to replace a hydrogen atom in the aromatic system of bromobenzene. The bromine substituent on the benzene introduces the possibility of isomers from the reaction with the nitronium ion: NO2+ can be positioned in the ortho position (making 1 bromo 2 nitrobenzene), the meta position (making 1 bromo 3 nitrobenzene), or the para position (making 1 bromo 4 nitrobenzene). There is also a chance that poly nitration can occur to produce dinitrobenzene. Since nitro groups are deactivators, it requires high temperatures to add another nitro group to the benzene ring. To prevent this poly substitution from occurring, it is important to control the rate of the reaction by monitoring the temperature during the reaction (the temperature should not exceed 60oC). The analysis phase determines why the need for the software arose, the deliverables or outcome expected from the software or system and also identifies the various requirements for the development. It is very important to involve users, stakeholders and working engineers in this phase, to ensure that the Why criteria is thoroughly fleshed out. A well worked out analysis phase will help developers and architects to successfully work on the given requirements in the design phase. He states that it would not have been created without a particular purpose, therefore its essence precedes its existence. This theory opposes Sartre by stating that humans were not the first to exist, nonetheless the first higher functioning organism. If the human essence follows its existence and then gives meaning to life, this is to say that every life form that existed before humanity was of no meaning or had no purpose. If everything in the world is defined by the meaning humanity ascribes to it, then the world pre humanity, by default would be meaningless or nonexistent. From a creationist stand point, existentialism is challenged in a similar aspect. It begs us to ask the question where did humanity come from? . It is foolish to deny the fact that biologically, humans are incredibly complex and had to have originated from somewhere, whether that be a higher power or a series of mutations. Sartre s claim that humans were the first to exist leads us to accept that humans are in a sense god or the first to exist without being bound by limits of time, space or reason. This in itself is a contradiction seeing as how humans are mortal and definitely held within certain boundaries. While existentialism is often closely associated with the idea of free will, I believe that humans can have free will without believing that existence precedes essence. This brings me back to Sartre s paper knife argument. While holistically, it is a simple object, it can be divided into thousands of subcategories, from its physical properties to its molecular ... A majority of the interviews conducted in the film were not those of whom were on the team and partook in the scandal, but rather journalists and other players who weren t part of it. This is accepted a legitimate criticism of the film. In order to portray the effect this incident had on the player, interviews with them would be appropriate. But, it makes sense that the filmmakers did not interview them because it could ve potentially hurt the case they made in 1951. Additionally, they didn t want to make a bad situation worse. • 26. Relationship Between Animals And Human Culture When was the last time you were down on your knees, worshipping a cat? What about burning a sacred goat as a gift for the gods? In our contemporary American culture, you may not see very much of this, but believe it or not, it was a vital part of some cultures in ancient societies. Throughout history, animals have appeared to be a significant component of culture, either economically, religiously, spiritually, mythically, and other ways. Animals are of high significance and importance to culture, and without their rich symbolic essence, perhaps various cultures would have died out. In this essay, I will explore the tightly bonded relationship between animals and human cultures through multiple perspectives and practices around the world: in the Native American culture, Hindu religion, ancient Egyptian society, and the worship of animals through sacrifice in ancient Greece. Native Americans are notoriously known for obtaining a culture that is widely sustained off of both revering and resourcefully using animals. Indigenous American tribes heavily relied upon animals for survival, and without that ingenuity, their culture would have likely failed to survive. Animals had to be treated properly because they could represent spirits, as well as plants which could give evidence of the supernatural and the land which could reveal God. Tim Murphy, Ph.D., wrote in his essay, Probing the Relationship between Native Americans and Ecology. Therefore, this closely bound relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
