Out Of The Depth Summary
Out of the Depths is a very interesting narrative book about retired Marine Edgar Harrell
surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in 1945. Harrell grew up on a farm in Kentucky,
as a little boy he listened to the radio about the Naval Wars and Marines losing their lives, so he
decided he wanted to help. When Harrell became 18, he registered for the draft right away. The
massive cruiser, the USS Indianapolis, became his life and, more importantl, became his home.
He lived on this ship serving and fighting for his country. He remembers very precisely about the
one time he saw a Japanese Kamikaze plane hit the ship in the battle for Okinawa. He survived
the attack, but nine of his friends tragically lost their lives. The ship had to return to the states as
needed for repairs, because the Indianapolis had important components for the atomic bombs to
drop on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. While there, he noticed that the captain said that their next
assignment was to head for the Philippines to invade Japan. Harrell stated to the captain that it
was necessary to have an escort through the seas to that area as the US has already lost 129
soldiers due to Japanese attacks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The torpedoes hit the ship in less than fifteen minutes causing the ship to sink. Harrell with no
hesitation immediately started to find his way out as rushing waters flooded the ship. The only
thing he could think of as he was struggling to escape from the deadly waters was his mom, dad,
6 brothers, two sisters, and his girlfriend that said she would wait for him to come home. Harrell
thinking of this recalled to himself, I want to live, I don t want to die . He says that millions of
things were going through his brain. Him and 900 to 1,200 men who survived the attack were
stranded in the sea, oil soaked, holding onto anything that

The Age Determination Of Latent Prints
The amount of information that can be obtained through someone s hands is astounding. One can
determine the years of scarring from hard work, or the blisters from misuse. The most
information can be obtained at the very tips of fingers, and what they leave behind. Fingerprints
supply great evidence to help identify who was there, and possibly how many people were there.
However, the problem becomes that there are too many prints found at one scene. It is difficult to
try and determine when they were made based on physical appearance and common techniques.
Nowadays, the age determination of latent prints can be achieved with a new approach using the
sweaty residue of latent prints, and a small electrical charge. In 2011, a group from... Show more

In a laboratory setting, they set up multiple stations where they had placed two fingerprints from
the same people, at different times. The results of the experiment showed that after 14 days of
being left alone, the prints left behind on nonconductive surfaces showed significant electric
decay. They were then able to determine which print was placed earlier, and which later (Watson,
Prance, Beardsmore Rust, Prance, 2011). The scanner works on the residue left behind in the
latent prints, which is mainly the different forms of sweat. Sweat by itself is a combination of
organic molecules, lipids, amino acids, and inorganic free ions (Yamashita French, n.d.). These
free ions act as an electrolyte solution, and allow electrical currents to be passed through, and
returned to the original source to complete the current. By measuring where the current is
completed, the scanner can construct a digital image of what the print would look like. The
scanner s released charge must be small enough to have a reaction from the latent residue, but it
cannot be too large as to have a reaction from the surface in question. Although the scanner works
in a laboratory setting, there are still many problems that need to be addressed before it can be
applied to the field. The first is that the testing surface needs to be nonconductive. The main reason
for a nonconductive surface is that the charge

Erikson s Psychosocial Theory
Many children around the world have been neglected and abused. Abuse and neglect can be
damaging not only throughout childhood but also throughout adolescence, adulthood, and even the
next generation as well. Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory helps better understand the internal
thoughts throughout the lifetime of those who have been abused and neglected during childhood.
Erikson s psychosocial theory has many stages that focus on different parts of a person s lifetime
such as Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Intimacy vs.
Isolation, and Generativity vs. Stagnation. Children that have been neglected or abused can have
developmental and psychological issues beginning at a young age and following them... Show more

Erikson s stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation is discussing how adults either want to be with and around
with others or become isolated and reject others company. This stage provides some insight into
the rejection or acceptance of the children of the abused. Most of the time the children of the
abused do not get the attention they need due to the intimacy issues of their parents (Ehrensaft et
al., 2015, p. 16). Erikson s stage Trust vs. Mistrust can go along with this point as well. If the
parent is neglecting the child, the child will not get what it needs from the parent. Therefore, the
child will have a problem trusting others later on in their lifetime (Ehrensaft et al., 2015, p. 17).
Another one of Erikson s stages, Generativity vs. Stagnation is discussing how adults either want to
contribute to their children meaningfully or not at all. Most of the children in this study get no
positive contribution from their parents. Erikson s stage Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt , can
help better understand this point. If the parent does not spend time with their child they can also
keep their child from learning abilities and skills that they need to know. If the child does not learn
the necessary skills required to do certain and basic things, they may begin to doubt their own

Settlers Vs. New England Colonies
Facing the New World
Entering a new territory filled with countless opportunities and possibilities came with prices to
pay and times of hardships for the pioneers from England. They quickly came to realize that the
grass was not always greener on the other side. They settled in different areas along the east coast,
such as New England, which included New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut, and Rhode
Island. The other settlers came ashore just south of New England called the Chesapeake region,
which included Virginia and Maryland. When comparing the two groups, they both had different
and similar ways of thinking and establishing life in this new and unfamiliar territory. Without a
doubt, both experienced obstacles that they were forced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Virginia was a predominantly agricultural region, the social gap between wealthy and poor
was exponential. In Virginia, there were the wealthy farmers and the poor slaves. There were very
few middle class citizens. The main source of income for the Chesapeake region was trade and
distribution of tobacco. Still lacking a substantial amount of females, the colony did not expand as
fast as it potentially could have.
New England lacked a significant social gap. Mostly everyone was middle class with the
exception of a very few. While New England was able to have some type of agriculture, they
relied mostly on industries such as shoemakers and blacksmiths and trade. Factors such as
population and resources allowed them to develop rapidly. This lead to large cities for this era and
a healthy economy.
Ecological differences forced different economical strategies for the two groups of settlers to
pursue. However, the differences in them opened up a way of trade. Both New England and
Virginia benefited from trade by getting things they desired that were difficult for them to obtain on

Negative Effects of Smoking on Human Health and the Economy
Moreover, smoking particularly adversely affects women s reproductive health, and smoke exposure
on children has had detrimental and some sometimes fatal effects on children. Many studies have
examined and outlined the adverse effects of maternal smoking on both the mother as well as on
the baby and/or infant ( Hofhuis, de Jongste, Merkus, 2003 Woolbright 1994). Many states such as
Alabama required documentation on birth certificates of tobaccouse of mothers (Woolbright, 1994).

governments as well as other countries have filed lawsuits against the tobacco industry as a result
of increased healthcare costs induced by smoking tobacco. Many smokers within the United States
depend on financial assistance from state governments through Medicaid, a healthcare system that
assists low income families. Eventually, the tobacco industry settled the various state lawsuits in
Mississippi, Minnesota, Florida and Texas and agreed to pay thirty six billion dollars within a
twenty five year period (Bloch, Daynard, Roemer, 1998). The medical literature Warner, Hodgson,
and Carroll (1999) examined regarding the medical costs of smoking related ailments reveal that
approximately eight percent of a person s personal medical care costs is used to treat illnesses,
diseases and deadly conditions attributed to smoking, mainly lung cancer, COPD, and heart disease.
These numbers, however, do not reflect the costs of other less severe ailments that result from
exposing to smoking tobacco. Nonetheless, they reveal that medical costs represent one strain of
the financial burden smoking puts on people not only in the United States but worldwide. Despite
the abundance of literature that supports the notion that smoking burdens

MURRAY BOWEN2
An Overview of Theorist Murray Bowen s Ideologies and Practices Murray Bowen s theory of
family systems therapy developed as a result of his study of schizophrenic patients. Early in his
career, Bowen researched the symbiotic relationship between a mother and child in an effort to
discover the possible patterned causes of schizophrenia. Bowen quickly concluded that several
outside factors may contribute to a family member s mental illness, and began calling for entire
family systems to be treated. This idea led Bowen to develop the concepts of differentiation of self
and triangulation (Nichols 2017, p.19). Bowen asserted that our family dynamics influence the

be nearly impossible to get an entire family system to agree to therapy and to coordinate it so
that all can be active and equal participants, especially since the issues that would need to be

Horse Meat Is A Great Substitute For Popular Meats
Pros With increasing obesity rates across the globe, the demand for health conscious foods is
higher than ever. Horse meat is a great substitute for popular meats that are socially accepted
today. Horse meat is characterized as a red meat like beef, pork, sheep, and goat. While horse
meat is like beef in appearance, it has more protein and vitamins, and a less fat percentage. Horse
meatis also calorically lower than beef, veal, pork, lamb, and sheep, making it ideal for the rising
concern in the United States about a healthy food supply (Stanciu, 2015). If eventually socially
acceptable, horse meatcould be the next big fad on the markets.

Brazil economically capitalized on the export market by shipping over two thousand tons of horse
meat to its most extensive market, the European Union, in 2011 alone. The total value of Brazil s
horse meat export that year was equivalent to almost seven million dollars. With a struggling
economy in Brazil, the value of horse meat exports provided the necessary boost. In 2012, Brazil s
total horse count added up to almost five hundred and fifty million horses ( Horsemeat production
in South America, 2014). With a plethora of available horses, one can see that even though horse
slaughter is implemented in Brazil, the total horse population is hardly affected as horses are still
widespread throughout the country.
Another troubling aspect is the environmental problems that could come about due to improper
carcass disposal of dead horses. The halt of horse slaughter in the United States has caused the
sudden need to dispose of millions of bodies of horses which is bound to create a plethora of
environmental problems such as soil contamination ( Horse slaughter bill making waves, 2004).
Horse slaughter provided owners with old or injured horses the ability to rid of them for an
eventual product. Common disposal practices like burial could provide problems while the body
decomposes, and eventually affect the water supply.

Essay on Happiness and Drought
It is interesting to think about why our ancestors decided to include the pursuit of happiness as
an American s unalienable right, as opposed to the previously considered, right to land. To live a
life without happiness, it seemed to them, is to live a life without meaning. Edgar Lee Masters
poems commonly reflect on the quality, or lack thereof, of happiness in the afterlife of dead
countrymen (and women). The diction, word choice and imagery in Fiddler Jones by Masters
expresses the seemingly inherent joy of a lackadaisical man as well as the value of perspectives
and the ability to posit happiness over fortune and land.
As many of Master s poems in his Spoon River Anthology, the title Fiddler Jones refers to a man
who is not only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the poem begins by talking generally about the fundamental process of life, lines 3 and 4
bring an individual to the stage in which the poem is set forth. This is done by introducing the art
of fiddle playing and the skill that such a feat requires. A skill is a tenet that sets apart an
individual from a general crowd. It is something that one may seek pleasure from and it is here that
the speaker of the poem creates this separation the individual.
And if the people find you can fiddle,
Why, fiddle you must, for all your life. (ll. 3 4)
At this point we are being advised by the speaker that if we have a skill we must use it for the
rest of our lives. But it also says that if people find you can fiddle, which suggests a communal
aspect. This skill that sets one apart also makes them a part of a community that cherishes the
skill which one has acquired. This further contributes to the meaning on the poem because this is
the point in which we are given insight into the speaker s philosophy. This belief being that if
one is good at something it should fully encompass their being for the duration of one s life, thus
rendering it a passion that becomes as a part of living as breathing itself. This leads into the next
lines where we are now required to consider value as a component in distinguishing divergent
perspectives. The point in which perspectives diverge happens in lines 4 and 5, where Master s
imagery is employed to depict the scene of a

East Germany, its demise relayed through the mass media of recent history, has in popular
consciousness been posited as negative, a corrupt bulwark of the last dying days of Communism in
Eastern Europe, barren and silent. The other Germany to its West, its citizens free, was striding
confidently ahead into the millennium. Recent cinema has sought to examine re unification, the

Goodbye Lenin! (2003) appropriates the individual as bound to his environment, threaded, through
strong cultural codes, to his neighbour. Regardless of the system, communist or capitalist, and
though our goals may deviate, we are all pursuing happiness and comfort, the tools used to attain
this products of that society. That said, it is immediately legible whereabouts Becker wishes us to
view the East German state as wholly negative, and he does this through several key scenes.
At the film s opening, we learn of the first East German shot into space, surely an apotheosis of
what a state can achieve, its grasp extending to the stars. But behind the curtain of this vast
achievement we can see how it is brought about through the utter bending of citizens to the states
will. Alex s mother Christiane, who we first assume the innocent of the piece, is interrogated by
the Stasi for her husband has fled the country. We learn he was unable to live with a state he
detested, the ordeal of the interrogation so testing for Christiane it sends her into a coma. Her
husband and the children?s father absent, she finds a kinship with the state, now one of its most
vociferous supporters. The absence of the father is particularly imbued with purpose. Later, Becker
seeks to equate the death of communism with the return of the father for the two are so inextricably
connected. Only when the German Democratic Republic (GDR) is laid to rest can this dark chapter

Beach Descriptive Essay
After lazily waking up, my family and I head to the beach to enjoy the brisk day. It s only around
seventy five degrees, but that doesn t falter our excitement for the beach. The sun shines through
the clouds as we head down to pick a spot. The waves are calm and inviting as we lay our stuff
down. The wind is moving through the beachgrass like a quiet whisper. The seagulls caw, and
attempt to steal the snacks we brought. There s some kids playing in the water, but more are
playing in the sand since the water s so cold. Days like this are quite typical at the beach in Hilton
Head, South Carolina.
In Hilton Head, near Coligny Beach, the small village where we stay is quite somnolent. It
seems like no one is ever awake before 9am. In the center of the sleepy town there s a Piggly
Wiggly. Everyone goes in there to get their groceries and beach supplies. Next to it there s an ice
cream shop, the Frozen Moo, which has some of the best ice cream I ve ever had. The shop has
at least ninety different flavors from Apple Pie to Rainbow Sherbet. There s a mural on the wall
of cows surfing at the beach with brightly colored chairs and tables; going along with the cow
theme, there s even a life size replica of a cow that they dress up for holidays. When walking into
the town center, the beach is right across from it. The smell of the ocean air and breeze coming
through the town almost hypothesizes you to move towards the waves. Since it s fairly cold in the
morning, no one is ever there.

My still image film Illegal Alien grew from a project or series of works I created last semester.
The charcoal animation in the intro was inspired by a short film, Puerta Abierta , I made in
collaboration with a friend in my experimental video class. The subject matter within this short film
was about feeling outcasted as a Mexican American. These themes are veiled behind a narrative; a
deer wandering aimlessly throughout an empty house thus feeling out of place. Streamside Day by
Pierre Huyghe was a frame of reference here because I was intrigued by the deer stumbling around
an empty suburban home and what that could mean in a narrative. For this piece, I wanted to create

Sisters Frieda By Toni Morrison
Sisters Frieda and Claudia know they were getting a new sister. Well not exactly. Because Pecola s
father burnt down their home, she was sent to live with the MacTeer family until her family was
able to take her back. Frieda and Claudia do not know what to make of Pecola. First off she is ugly,
this little black girl, whom no one will ever call beauty. What she long for is blue eyes. The bluest
eyes in the world, as if she was like all those blonde fair skin blue eye girls, her familywould love
her, and mend their broken home. Where Pecola very view times get to narrates her story, it is
told from other perspective, including events to led to her home life. From Claudia s point of view
of Pecola, to how her parents were both raise and met,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Toni Morrison the racism is shouted clear as day throughout the story, but it leaves you with
a weird feeling of oddness. To start with our main girl Pecola, who even though is the main
protagonist, she is quite weak and mysterious though the book. Her passive way towards her
family and bulling, led her to believe she was ugly (what her mother said about her the minute
she was born) and the only way to change her life was to change her eye color blue, like all the
happy white girls had it. Pecola s passiveness made her not able to change throughout the story,
thus leaving the readers angry at Morrison for not saving the girl, because that would be out of
character. instead you are left bitter about the other character s reactions towards Pecola,
because she will not do anything to defend herself, thus you are left reading about the
misfortunes that fall upon the poor child. Claudia is seen as an opposite to Pecola, and although
she is also black, she resents the white blonde blue eye America dream that Pecola wants, but
instead destroys any propaganda about it (ripping the heads of her Barbie dolls), and defend
Pecola, not seeing why people mock her friend. Morrison also gives the back story to both Pecola s
parents to show how Pecola s home become broken. Also held warning to the trigger warnings as
where this is a good book, it is best to know these things before you start reading so instead of
being paralyzed with shock, you will just be some what

Complementarian Versus Egalitarian Theology
Complementarian vs. Egalitarian Theology and Beliefs
Christian views, attitudes and beliefs about gender have always varied with some ideas evolving
with society and others set in tradition, never to change. While some see gender difference as a
feminist issue, others see it as a role requirement set by God. Of course, there are extremists on
both sides of this argument, as well as inter lapping beliefs, but gender issues are still debated by
Biblical scholars often and passionately. Not exclusive to denomination, gender equality is a
subject that can be examined in many ways, but the focus of this paper will be on two types of
theologies, Complementarian and Egalitarian. While both theologies rely on Bible scripture to gain

This view can also be referred to as biblical equality. Egalitarians feel that Bible teaches Christians
equality both genders within all racial and ethnic groups, economic classes, and age groups based
on the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Egalitarian theology interprets scripture with the inference that the teachings of Jesus Christ,
through the Apostle Paul, ended gender specific roles for both genders with regards to the
church, ministry and in marriage. This view explains that God calls each of us to roles within the
church with no regard to race, gender or class. Egalitarians feel that each person should have equal
responsibility to use their talents to follow their calling in order to glorify God, without limitations
or rights that are based on gender. Under this theology, leadership or control in the Church or in the
home should not be based on gender or be male dominated. Egalitarian theory stresses the
importance of the Bible teaching individuals the equality of both genders in the creation and
redemption. Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent
of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes
from God. (1 Corinthians 11:11 12 NIV). There is neither Jew nor Gentile,

The Debate Between Pro Life And Pro Choice Advocates
The House Bill 1337 is the blame of the disunion of Indiana Hoosiers. Governor Mike Pence of
Indiana recently signed the House Bill 1337, making Indiana the second state to ban abortion
because of the fetus disability, ethnicity, or gender. The bill has escalated an uproar political debate
between pro life and pro choiceadvocates. To further go into detail of the bill it states, that a
pregnant woman considering an abortionmust be given the opportunity to view the fetal ultrasound
and hear the auscultation of the fetal heart tone at least 18 hours before the abortion is performed.
It correspondingly requires the state department of health to submit copies of admitting privileges
and written agreements between physicians to other hospitals in the county and contiguous
counties where abortions are performed. To conclude, a miscarried or aborted fetus must be
interred or cremated by a facility having possession of the remains. Planned Parenthood is suing
the state of Indiana based on the new abortion law passed. The American Civil Liberties Union
filed it on behalf of Planned Parenthood which stated it was unconstitutional. The law signed by
Governor Mike Pence goes into effect on July 1. Legal director of ACLU, Ken Folk stated the
Supreme Court has always viewed it s the woman s choice, not the states.

The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
Monster Versus Heroes Essay In the book, The Devil s Arithmetic, by Jane Yolen, the characters
Rivka and Chaya make some very interesting points. These two points contradict as they are total
opposites and they suggest two different things. We are all monsters, Chaya said, because we
are letting it happen. However, Rivka also says, We are all heroes here. These two points have
two many different perspectives on what people are like in the concentration camps. Both
statements have their points, but the mostly correct one goes to Rivka. One of the reasons for
why Rivka is mostly correct is because all of the prisoners are making the best of what they have
and they are trying to help the kids feel better, even with the situation of being locked into a
concentration camp. I say this because it states on page 135, The afternoon Gitl organized a rope
and the children played jumping games after dinner. This shows how Gitl had to go through the
risk of stealing a rope just so the kids could have fun and feel better about the situation.... Show

life, Rivka. Run for your future. Run. Run. Run. And remember. In this part of the story, Chaya
performs a selfless act to save Rivka and sacrifices herself in order to save one more life. This
scene definitely shows how people in the concentration camps help save each other. Although this
scene only shows Chaya doing a selfless act, the book only gives us a glimpse of how the Jews in
the concentration camps take care of each other. This is my final reason for why I think Rivka is

The Problems Of Deutsche Bank
The Problems Deutsche Bank is facing:
Global capital markets are being pressured by the travails of Deutsche Bank, one of Europe s
largest investment banks, and there is
yet no clarity on when the coast will clear. The bank s stock has plunged to all time lows as
concerns about liquidity arose for a
firm considered systemically important. The fear is that the German bank could fail and spark a
domino effect that would harm the
global banking system. This worry is heightened as German Chancellor Angela Merkel s
administration has rejected any bail out plan.
Problems which have been facing by the bank as follows:
Huge fine of $14 billion faced by the Bank, prompting fear of a new financial crisis by US

Deutsche Bank, Germany s largest bank, is facing its biggest crisis since the global financial

seeking to fine the company $14 billion not just a large sum of money but actually enough to

Evolution Vs. Fossil Records
Evolution has been a widely known discussion that many people have had over the past century, the
theory of evolution has been welcomed by many scientists yet by some religious people it has been
a taboo topic. The thought or the motion to entertain that humans evolved from primates is what
some people would shudder and state that it goes against all their religious beliefs. However,
scientist have pushed on the fact that evolutionis not just a hypothetical or an outlandish theory but
a theory that has multiple hard evidence to back it and that to ignore is ignorance and just plain
stupidity. Four types of evidence of evolution are fossil records, genetic changes, the geographic
distribution of species, and the similarities in embryos of species. One of the evidences of
evolution is fossil records, with fossil records being the remains of plants and animals that scientist
have found in sedimentary rocks. Fossil records have given us irrefutable evidence of evolution in
the past, over a course of a long period of time, proving there is significant variation amongst living
things. Evolution is a continuum; all the minor changes over a period of time add up to a major
change. On the continuum, fossils are the points that displaying what the organism had become
after evolving at that stage in time.
Although fossil records are substantial evidence for evolution there are gaps in the fossil records
due to the fact of incompletion of the collecting data. As evolution is

The Rise Of Feudalism
Feudalism a social system of duties and rights on land tenure and personal relationships in fief
lands by vassals that came from lords to which they owe very specific services, and to which they
are bounded by personal loyalty. Feudalism started in the definite form in the lands of Frankish in
the century of the 9th and the 10th. In a long disagreement with scholars whether the institutional
basis was with Germanic or Roman. It could be said that feudalismstarted from the disintegration of
the Roman institutions and the disruption of Germanic settlement and inroads. Feudalism rose in

In England feudalism was at its strongest when it was first introduced. The defeat of Harold at the
Battle of Hastings gave feudalism a really strong start in the country since none of the people of
England agreed to a feudal government system the system was strong because it was basically
forced upon them. Another point where feudalism was strong in the country was with its army.
Since the country had been divided into several plots, each plot had its own army therefore when all
armies united to fight as one county the army was big. Another strong point was that England was
that the barons did not get in the way of the life routine of the peasants as much as other countries
did. In and around their close locations they functioned efficiently. Another strong point that
feudalism had in England was that the country had relative prosperity to pass down to its people.
The nobles needed to recruit archers and soldiers from their lands. They couldn t be completely
greedy and sustain support. When the nobles went too far there were many moments of rebellion
among the commoners. A weak point that the feudal government system had England was that the
country could not count on support and revenue in times of crisis. Eventually this cost the
continental possessions in France. The weak point for a weak monarch was that the nobles would

becoming reality. Just as computers did, driverless cars will change the way we live. And like
any other innovation, it would free up time for more creative thinking. In recent years, we have

People that are blind could then have the ability to drive wherever they so choose. In addition,
people who use a wheelchair every day could simply roll up to the car and go. Driverless cars
would drastically cut traffic tickets in half. You would also have more time for other things
while your car is driving you such as working on homework, talking on the phone, drinking
coffee, and the list goes on and on. There is a long list of positive things about driverless cars,
but there is another side to that coin. What happens when there is a failure from the computer or
other components of the car? Would this cause serious accidents and injuries or even the worst
case scenario death? According to the article Are We Ready for Driverless Cars, Currently, the
car s sensors are unable to cope with poor weather conditions like heavy rain and snow covered
streets . (Ibrahim Balkhy, 2013) Another unanswered question that has come up is who would
be at fault if an accident were to occur and how would it be paid for. This would undoubtedly
point the finger at the cars manufactures since there is no longer human error in the equation.
Lawyers would have a heyday. I think driverless cars would be safe about 95% of the time just
like flying an airplane or a jetliner but if an accident were to occur, it would most likely be
devastating. Finally, there is the issue about privacy. Autonomous cars have GPS Systems in

ABSTRACT
Bangladesh is a developing nation with a lot of constraints and difficulties for entrepreneurs. One of
the primary difficulties that entrepreneurs face is raising capital. Finding out what types of
difficulties entrepreneurs face in raising capital, and how the government and private sector can
help to eliminate them, is the subject of this report. This report is an attempt to critically evaluate

A venture firm could help facilitate that, it could act as an intermediary for both the entrepreneur
and the investors.
Another absence is that of private equity firms in Bangladesh. A private equity firm an investment
manager that makes investments in the private equity of operating companies through a variety of
loosely affiliated investment strategies including leveraged buyout, venture capital, and growth
capital. This firm only invests in private firms by pooling resources in return for management fees
and share in profits.
Then we do not have any angel investors, which may be hoping for too much in this nation. Angel
investors invest in a business in return for controlling ownership or convertible loan, they usually
keep themselves anonymous to the entrepreneur. They are usually retired entrepreneurs or
executives. Their purpose is never completely monetary, they like to keep themselves occupied in
the current business scene, or guide new entrepreneurs or apply their experience in the new
businesses. One may put it in the Self Actualization part of Maslow s Hierarchy theory.
There are no government loan programs to support these entrepreneurial startups. If any
organization could afford to take on high risk ventures then it is the government. But sadly the
government takes no such initiative.
The Solutions
The first actor that needs to take actions is the government. It needs to make policies and provide
opportunities. One policy it can make is that it

being the state of the American theatreand its institutional need for centralization. (Mroczka) The
aim of the following discussion is to contextualize this organization within American theatre history
while illustrating the positive and negative impacts of The Theatrical Syndicate on the theatre
community. For much of the 19th century, theatre production hinged on resident stock company
and visiting star systems. The former was an English import and signified the delineations
between a permanent or touring company. Resident companies had an arsenal of plays that would
be performed nightly, on a rotating basis, by actors selected on their ability to play
interchangeable stock characters. This practice was innovated mid century by the visiting star
system. The resident stock company was self sufficient in staging productions, but when big name
actors came into town, they would often make their way on the bill for local productions as a way
to draw crowds. (Encyclopedia Britannica) As a promotional method, however, this system would
prove too great a burden on operating costs. This would serve as one of many reasons American
theatre would shortly hereafter transition into a

How Is Diction Used In Edgar Allan Poe s Farewell To A...
The poem is likely about bells. In the first section, there are sleighs decorated with silver bells,
which ring merrily in the winter night. The second scene takes place in a wedding, during which
golden bells ring. The third section introduces itself with brazen alarm bells clanging as a fire
wreaks havoc in the area, while the last section concludes itself with iron bells and a funeral to
address the dead. The speaker is a person, and is likely an observer. Poe uses situational irony in
section two to disguise the true horror that the poem holds, giving the later sections greater
influence. During the wedding, the speaker observes that the radiant sound of the golden bells
dwells / on the future!...tells / of the rapture that impels ,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the beginning half of the poem feels joyous and lighthearted, it is masked by a thin facade.
This is portrayed by the nighttime setting and the shakiness of the seemingly cheerful terms, such
as the verses while the stars, that oversprinkle / all the heavens, seem to twinkle (6 7). In the latter
half of the poem, the tone becomes openly dark. The speaker probably sees this poem and its four
sections as stages in life, which quickly dive from a bright atmosphere to a downright distressing
one. Together, they represent the idea that happiness is

A Separate Peace Gene s Innocence
I could not escape a feeling that this was my own funeral, and you do not cry in that case
(Knowles 194). The name of this book is A Separate Peace by John Knowles. In this book, Gene
Forrester revisits his old school, Devon, and remembers his adolescence while there with his best
friend Phineas. Gene is introverted as well as an intellectual, but Finny is a daredevil athlete.
Throughout the novel, they struggle with their friendship and their innocence, and near the end,
Finny dies and Gene feels as though it was his fault. There are many people who fight inner wars, if
it s within friendships or within themselves. Throughout the novel, Gene fights inner wars,
including jealousy, guilt, and his own identity. First of all, Gene battles... Show more content on

Many times in the novel, Gene struggles with his identity, including when Finny was in the
hospital and he decided to put on Finny s clothes. Gene was thinking, But when I looked in the
mirror it was no remote aristocrat I had become, no character out of daydreams. I was Phineas,
Phineas to the life (62). Gene also says how it gave him a relief when he was wearing Finny s
clothes, and that he would never stumble through the confusions of his own character again.
After viewing this quote, it is shown that Gene didn t really understand who he was. He wanted
to look like Finny and be Finny. Also, another time Gene struggled with his identity was when he
and Finny were talking on the phone while Finny was still gone from Devon. Finny says Listen,
pal, if I can t play sports, you re going to play them for me, and I lost a part of myself to him then,
and a soaring sense of freedom revealed that this must have been my purpose from the first: to
become a part of Phineas (85). At this time in the book, Gene was feeling bad about Finny, and
when Finny asked him to play sports for him, Gene felt like he was becoming a part of Finny.
Because of this event, it s shown that Gene didn t exactly know who he was supposed to

A Cry for Socialist Reform in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair...
A Cry for Socialist Reform in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
The Jungle is usually associated with the federal legislation it provoked. Americans were horrified
to learn about the terrible sanitation under which their meat products were packed. They were even
more horrified to learn that the labels listing the ingredients in tinned meat products were full of
lies. The revelation that rotten and diseased meat was sold without a single consideration for public
health infuriated the American public. They consumed meat containing the ground remains of
poisoned rats and sometimes unfortunate workers who fell into the machinery for grinding meat
and producing lard. Within months of The Jungle s publication, the sale of meat products dropped ...

Inevitably, Sinclair wrote his novel as an appeal to Socialism, because democracy failed to neither
protect families and community values nor prevent the exploitation of wage labor from the hands of
industry.
The novel follows Jurgis s Lithuanian immigrant family into the disgusting tenements and meat
packing factories of Chicago. There, they suffer the loss of all their dreams of success and
freedom in America. They find themselves leashed to the grinding poverty and misery of the city
slums despite all their best efforts. Sinclair s purpose is to display the evils of capitalism as an
economic system. #8230;had given to the thought to a struggle by the America s working class to
free themselves from their enslavement under capitalism, and to the creating of a new and
classless society controlled collectively by all the people in their self interest (Harris 57). Sinclair
was bemused by the public reaction to his phenomenally successful novel. He said that he had
aimed for America s heart, but had ended by hitting it in the stomach (Harris 82).
The novel opens with a Lithuanian custom, the veselija, a wedding celebration. However, Sinclair
emphasizes that the foreign custom demonstrates that the immigrants share a great many social
values. The central values expressed in the veselija are family, community, and charity. According to
custom, the community shares in the expense of the celebration and

The Responsibilities of Athletic Trainers
Athletic trainers have a variety of responsibilities included in their job description. They provide
clinical diagnosis, rehabilitation therapy, and emergency care (CITE). Athletic trainers are often
confused with personal trainers, because most people associate both careers with athletes.
However, athletic trainers work in the field of physical medicine unlike personal trainers. For the
most part, athletic trainers must have people skills and an overall enjoyment of helping others.
Since they treat a wide range of patients, athletic trainers must be able to relate to all types of
people. They must have an expert knowledge of the human anatomy and also be able to think in a
cause and effect manner when diagnosing injuries.
Career Opportunities
There are a lot of job opportunities available as an athletic trainer depending on the area of the
field the individual wants to work in. Many athletic trainers want to work with sports teams at the
high school, collegiate and professional level. Athletic trainers are a necessity in all sports,
making their skill set a high demand. The employment projection for athletic trainers shows an
increase in the next ten years of over 6% (CITE). There is not a strong regional difference in job
opportunities for athletic trainers. Their skills are needed in every part of the country where
athletic competition is taking place.
Salary Ranges Paragraph In the past three years, athletic training has risen in nearly every category

Religion And Sociological Analysis
Religion has been a major component of sociological thought from the classical theorists to post
modern sociologists. How society functions and is held together and what connections are fostered
by religion has been studied using a scientific outlook on how to accurately interpret and gain an
understanding how religion fits in with the social world. The sociologyof religion largely differs
from theology in assuming indifference to the supernatural, theorists tend to accept socio cultural
reification of religious practice (Wikipedia1 2017). I will be trying to make a connection between

Thoreau examined how we were emotionally related, how we fit into the natural world and, to
some degree, how humanity could continue to live in the natural world, a nonconformist he
also promoted a simpler way to look at the natural social world that was elaborated on in his
work Walden (Viens 2012). Alcott was a transcendentalist, abolitionist and a radical reformist of
American society, as well as a supporter of women s rights (Wikipedia2 2017). Because Alcott
dismissed and criticized traditional religious and economic institutions one can assume that he
witnessed his own social alienation which only strengthened his views on social reform and the
abolition of slavery. Charles Loring Brace published The Races of the Old World, a work of
ethnography meant to demonstrate, among other things, that blacks were not radically different
from the other families of man or even mentally inferior to them (PRI 2017). But, Fuller shows,
Brace could not envision living in a biracial society; Blacks, he claimed, were permanently adapted
to warm climates and therefore should remain in the South after slavery ended (Fonner 2017). As

The Importance Of Refugee Camps
Refugee camps are temporary housing for people that are fleeing their country due to war, beliefs,
persecutions, safety, or natural disasters. Refugee camps exist all around the world, including the
United States. These camps are important because they provide a second home to people in need
that feel threatened in their home country. In today s society, refugeecamps play a big role in
changing one s life. Refugee camps relate to the novel, Unwind because the Graveyard, where
Connor, Risa, and Lev stay to seek asylum from being unwound , is an example of a refugee camp.

Unlike the current resettlement programs, refugee camps are placed in a specific place, enclosed
from the public, and resettlement in the country do not start right away. On the other hand, refugees
that settle in the US start their resettlement right away. In addition, the current largest refugee camp
in the world is established in Kenya, Africa. Named Kakuma Refugee Camp, this camp is home to
some 100,000 South Sudanese and 55,000 Somali refugees, most of whom were driven from their
homelands by civil war. Founded in 1922, the Kakuma Refugee Camp sits in northwestern Kenya
and houses over 180,000 refugees from nearly 20 countries. Furthermore, the camp s conditions are
in a threatening condition. Since the population is so high, food source is meager and especially
difficult to obtain for the younger ones. Equally important is the United States 45th president,
Donald J. Trump. Trump became president on January 20, 2017. He signed an executive order
that suspends any and all Syrians that are refuging into the US. He believes that by refusing all
refugees to the United States, it will stop future terrorist activity. Emma Lazarus poem The New
Colossus reads, Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
President Trump breaks the rule that describes how the United States will accept people in need.

Work Addiction Research Papers
The days of the regular 9 to 5 workday, 40 hour week and relaxing vacations have all but gone by
the wayside. Today, they have more often than not been replaced by workdays with no set
timeframe, a workweek consisting of up to 60 hours or more and vacations that are for the most
part nonexistent. With such extreme changes in modern work habits, things such as relationships,
health and lifestyles suffer. Sadly, this disorder is not new to researchers nor is it as small as a
problem as most people think it is. People that worked harder and longer than needed were
considered ideal employees in the past. Today, companies are implementing mandatory time off as
to battle the addictionto work. Researchers have discovered that not only is there... Show more

Some people may think this type of disorder is mostly exhibited by those with jobs, but it has been
found that even those with no jobs also suffer from such an affliction. According to many
researchers studying today s work epidemic, it has been estimated that the majority of people with
this problem have come from such situations as dysfunctional families and alcoholic parent(s). The
cause for this stems from not being able to control situations that were not controllable. Work
addiction is considered an attempt to control a situation in which they cannot control. Other
researchers have found that the sudden increase of workaholism is stemmed from recent economic
pressures. People think that by working harder and logging longer hours is a viable way of
keeping a job in such harsh economic times. During a recent study by Saul Robinson, a
psychotherapist and professor at the University of North Carolina Charlotte found that there were
four different types of workaholics. The bulimic workaholic is one that thinks that a job must be
done PERFECTLY or not done at all. The relentless workaholic, described as an adrenaline
junkie, is one that tends to take on more work than can possibly be done. The attention deficit
workaholic is one that starts a job with a fury but then fails to finish because of lost interest for
another job. The savoring workaholic is one that works very slowly, is very

The Russian Revolution Of Russia
On July 17th 1918 Nicholas II of Russia was gunned down by communist revolutionists along
with his family. The New York Times first heard of this event July 21st, 1918 when they printed
the article that Ex Czar of Russia Killed by Order of Ural Soviet. The russian government had
announced the death of Nicholas Romanoff on July 20th at the same time claiming that the
former Empress and Alexis Romanoff, the heir, were in a place of security. The Russian
government claimed that a counter revolutionary conspiracy was discovered which lead them to
make the decision to execute the former ruler. In the following days a rumor spread that Alexis
Romanoff had died of exposure after his father s death, the russian government denied this
claiming that The family of Nicholas Romanoff is safe in a Siberian monastery in Abalak.
Unfortunately, these claims and announcements the Russian government gave about the ex Czar
s family were false propaganda. His entire family was shot and killed along with him and buried
out in the wilderness where they died. Rumors spread for years after the event on the prospect of
survivors, a funny parallel since when the general populace did not know the family had been
killed they had spread rumors that they had died. Fakes and claimants of the ex Czar s daughter
Anastasia began to appear all around Europe, inspiring the 1997 disney movie of Anastasia.

First, Lord Lay Some Soul Upon My Heart was the blues and had a little bit of a minor tone

manner which can be referred to as staccato. The trumpet did a call and response with the vocalist
which is when she sings and the trumpet echoes back. It was really cool to see that be done in a
song since I have never seen something like that live before. They performed two other songs by

Ben Stiller s 1994 film, Reality Bites, portrays the broad based struggles of
America s twentysomethings through a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of the movie s main
characters. Four friends, recently graduated from college, find themselves over educated and
under employed, a theme reiterated in the lives of many Generation Xers according to critic
Marilyn Gardner. She states, unemployment is higher for those under 25 then it is for the
workforce as a whole. (pg. 14, col. 1) Though Reality Bites bills itself as a comedy about love
in the 90 s, the film is more of a commentary on the issues facing young adults today

Somewhere in the middle is Lalaina, a strange mixture of the two. She is the
valedictorian of her graduating class and is briefly employed by a television talk show as an
intern like production assistant until she is fired. In her valedictory address, she condemns the
BMW driving older generation of her parents who have left a lack of employment and natural
resources for her and her peers. Ironically, her graduation gift from her father is a used
BMW, which she concedes to drive until she can afford an inexpensive car of her own. Lalaina s
unemployment leads her to look for jobs where she is inexperienced (working as a news
journalist) to over qualified (flipping burgers at Burgerama), none of which are fruitful. Lalaina
then becomes a slacker herself by eating chips and chain smoking in her pajamas for hours a day.

such negative and dehumanizing connotations to them. Such as the black mass, living breathing

getting the room all ready for him, Jim requests a lady and a bottle of whiskey. Yes, Olaf

he had reluctance to phone any women, for he thought that any normal women would be right
for him. He was too big and too black for a normal woman. God oughtn t make men as big and

causing this mentality of fear in him. He finally calls a woman up named Lena. He explains to

  • 2. Out Of The Depth Summary Out of the Depths is a very interesting narrative book about retired Marine Edgar Harrell surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in 1945. Harrell grew up on a farm in Kentucky, as a little boy he listened to the radio about the Naval Wars and Marines losing their lives, so he decided he wanted to help. When Harrell became 18, he registered for the draft right away. The massive cruiser, the USS Indianapolis, became his life and, more importantl, became his home. He lived on this ship serving and fighting for his country. He remembers very precisely about the one time he saw a Japanese Kamikaze plane hit the ship in the battle for Okinawa. He survived the attack, but nine of his friends tragically lost their lives. The ship had to return to the states as needed for repairs, because the Indianapolis had important components for the atomic bombs to drop on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. While there, he noticed that the captain said that their next assignment was to head for the Philippines to invade Japan. Harrell stated to the captain that it was necessary to have an escort through the seas to that area as the US has already lost 129 soldiers due to Japanese attacks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The torpedoes hit the ship in less than fifteen minutes causing the ship to sink. Harrell with no hesitation immediately started to find his way out as rushing waters flooded the ship. The only thing he could think of as he was struggling to escape from the deadly waters was his mom, dad, 6 brothers, two sisters, and his girlfriend that said she would wait for him to come home. Harrell thinking of this recalled to himself, I want to live, I don t want to die . He says that millions of things were going through his brain. Him and 900 to 1,200 men who survived the attack were stranded in the sea, oil soaked, holding onto anything that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Age Determination Of Latent Prints The amount of information that can be obtained through someone s hands is astounding. One can determine the years of scarring from hard work, or the blisters from misuse. The most information can be obtained at the very tips of fingers, and what they leave behind. Fingerprints supply great evidence to help identify who was there, and possibly how many people were there. However, the problem becomes that there are too many prints found at one scene. It is difficult to try and determine when they were made based on physical appearance and common techniques. Nowadays, the age determination of latent prints can be achieved with a new approach using the sweaty residue of latent prints, and a small electrical charge. In 2011, a group from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a laboratory setting, they set up multiple stations where they had placed two fingerprints from the same people, at different times. The results of the experiment showed that after 14 days of being left alone, the prints left behind on nonconductive surfaces showed significant electric decay. They were then able to determine which print was placed earlier, and which later (Watson, Prance, Beardsmore Rust, Prance, 2011). The scanner works on the residue left behind in the latent prints, which is mainly the different forms of sweat. Sweat by itself is a combination of organic molecules, lipids, amino acids, and inorganic free ions (Yamashita French, n.d.). These free ions act as an electrolyte solution, and allow electrical currents to be passed through, and returned to the original source to complete the current. By measuring where the current is completed, the scanner can construct a digital image of what the print would look like. The scanner s released charge must be small enough to have a reaction from the latent residue, but it cannot be too large as to have a reaction from the surface in question. Although the scanner works in a laboratory setting, there are still many problems that need to be addressed before it can be applied to the field. The first is that the testing surface needs to be nonconductive. The main reason for a nonconductive surface is that the charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Erikson s Psychosocial Theory Many children around the world have been neglected and abused. Abuse and neglect can be damaging not only throughout childhood but also throughout adolescence, adulthood, and even the next generation as well. Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory helps better understand the internal thoughts throughout the lifetime of those who have been abused and neglected during childhood. Erikson s psychosocial theory has many stages that focus on different parts of a person s lifetime such as Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Intimacy vs. Isolation, and Generativity vs. Stagnation. Children that have been neglected or abused can have developmental and psychological issues beginning at a young age and following them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Erikson s stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation is discussing how adults either want to be with and around with others or become isolated and reject others company. This stage provides some insight into the rejection or acceptance of the children of the abused. Most of the time the children of the abused do not get the attention they need due to the intimacy issues of their parents (Ehrensaft et al., 2015, p. 16). Erikson s stage Trust vs. Mistrust can go along with this point as well. If the parent is neglecting the child, the child will not get what it needs from the parent. Therefore, the child will have a problem trusting others later on in their lifetime (Ehrensaft et al., 2015, p. 17). Another one of Erikson s stages, Generativity vs. Stagnation is discussing how adults either want to contribute to their children meaningfully or not at all. Most of the children in this study get no positive contribution from their parents. Erikson s stage Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt , can help better understand this point. If the parent does not spend time with their child they can also keep their child from learning abilities and skills that they need to know. If the child does not learn the necessary skills required to do certain and basic things, they may begin to doubt their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Settlers Vs. New England Colonies Facing the New World Entering a new territory filled with countless opportunities and possibilities came with prices to pay and times of hardships for the pioneers from England. They quickly came to realize that the grass was not always greener on the other side. They settled in different areas along the east coast, such as New England, which included New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The other settlers came ashore just south of New England called the Chesapeake region, which included Virginia and Maryland. When comparing the two groups, they both had different and similar ways of thinking and establishing life in this new and unfamiliar territory. Without a doubt, both experienced obstacles that they were forced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Virginia was a predominantly agricultural region, the social gap between wealthy and poor was exponential. In Virginia, there were the wealthy farmers and the poor slaves. There were very few middle class citizens. The main source of income for the Chesapeake region was trade and distribution of tobacco. Still lacking a substantial amount of females, the colony did not expand as fast as it potentially could have. New England lacked a significant social gap. Mostly everyone was middle class with the exception of a very few. While New England was able to have some type of agriculture, they relied mostly on industries such as shoemakers and blacksmiths and trade. Factors such as population and resources allowed them to develop rapidly. This lead to large cities for this era and a healthy economy. Ecological differences forced different economical strategies for the two groups of settlers to pursue. However, the differences in them opened up a way of trade. • 7. Negative Effects of Smoking on Human Health and the Economy Moreover, smoking particularly adversely affects women s reproductive health, and smoke exposure on children has had detrimental and some sometimes fatal effects on children. Many studies have examined and outlined the adverse effects of maternal smoking on both the mother as well as on the baby and/or infant ( Hofhuis, de Jongste, Merkus, 2003 Woolbright 1994). Many states such as Alabama required documentation on birth certificates of tobaccouse of mothers (Woolbright, 1994). According to Warner, Hodgson and Carroll (1999), many health insurers and state governments as well as other countries have filed lawsuits against the tobacco industry as a result of increased healthcare costs induced by smoking tobacco. Many smokers within the United States depend on financial assistance from state governments through Medicaid, a healthcare system that assists low income families. Eventually, the tobacco industry settled the various state lawsuits in Mississippi, Minnesota, Florida and Texas and agreed to pay thirty six billion dollars within a twenty five year period (Bloch, Daynard, Roemer, 1998). The medical literature Warner, Hodgson, and Carroll (1999) examined regarding the medical costs of smoking related ailments reveal that approximately eight percent of a person s personal medical care costs is used to treat illnesses, diseases and deadly conditions attributed to smoking, mainly lung cancer, COPD, and heart disease. These numbers, however, do not reflect the costs of other less severe ailments that result from exposing to smoking tobacco. Nonetheless, they reveal that medical costs represent one strain of the financial burden smoking puts on people not only in the United States but worldwide. Murray Bowen Research Paper MURRAY BOWEN2 An Overview of Theorist Murray Bowen s Ideologies and Practices Murray Bowen s theory of family systems therapy developed as a result of his study of schizophrenic patients. Early in his career, Bowen researched the symbiotic relationship between a mother and child in an effort to discover the possible patterned causes of schizophrenia. Bowen quickly concluded that several outside factors may contribute to a family member s mental illness, and began calling for entire family systems to be treated. This idea led Bowen to develop the concepts of differentiation of self and triangulation (Nichols 2017, p.19). Bowen asserted that our family dynamics influence the outcome of who we are much ... While horse meat is like beef in appearance, it has more protein and vitamins, and a less fat percentage. Horse meatis also calorically lower than beef, veal, pork, lamb, and sheep, making it ideal for the rising concern in the United States about a healthy food supply (Stanciu, 2015). Brazil economically capitalized on the export market by shipping over two thousand tons of horse meat to its most extensive market, the European Union, in 2011 alone. The total value of Brazil s horse meat export that year was equivalent to almost seven million dollars. With a struggling economy in Brazil, the value of horse meat exports provided the necessary boost. In 2012, Brazil s total horse count added up to almost five hundred and fifty million horses ( Horsemeat production in South America, 2014). With a plethora of available horses, one can see that even though horse slaughter is implemented in Brazil, the total horse population is hardly affected as horses are still widespread throughout the country. Another troubling aspect is the environmental problems that could come about due to improper carcass disposal of dead horses. The halt of horse slaughter in the United States has caused the sudden need to dispose of millions of bodies of horses which is bound to create a plethora of environmental problems such as soil contamination ( Horse slaughter bill making waves, 2004). Horse slaughter provided owners with old or injured horses the ability to rid of them for an eventual product. • 13. Essay on Happiness and Drought It is interesting to think about why our ancestors decided to include the pursuit of happiness as an American s unalienable right, as opposed to the previously considered, right to land. To live a life without happiness, it seemed to them, is to live a life without meaning. Edgar Lee Masters poems commonly reflect on the quality, or lack thereof, of happiness in the afterlife of dead countrymen (and women). The diction, word choice and imagery in Fiddler Jones by Masters expresses the seemingly inherent joy of a lackadaisical man as well as the value of perspectives and the ability to posit happiness over fortune and land. Although the poem begins by talking generally about the fundamental process of life, lines 3 and 4 bring an individual to the stage in which the poem is set forth. This is done by introducing the art of fiddle playing and the skill that such a feat requires. A skill is a tenet that sets apart an individual from a general crowd. It is something that one may seek pleasure from and it is here that the speaker of the poem creates this separation the individual. And if the people find you can fiddle, Why, fiddle you must, for all your life. (ll. 3 4) At this point we are being advised by the speaker that if we have a skill we must use it for the rest of our lives. But it also says that if people find you can fiddle, which suggests a communal aspect. This skill that sets one apart also makes them a part of a community that cherishes the skill which one has acquired. This further contributes to the meaning on the poem because this is the point in which we are given insight into the speaker s philosophy. This belief being that if one is good at something it should fully encompass their being for the duration of one s life, thus rendering it a passion that becomes as a part of living as breathing itself. This leads into the next lines where we are now required to consider value as a component in distinguishing divergent perspectives. The point in which perspectives diverge happens in lines 4 and 5, where Master s imagery is employed to depict the scene of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

East Germany, its demise relayed through the mass media of recent history, has in popular consciousness been posited as negative, a corrupt bulwark of the last dying days of Communism in Eastern Europe, barren and silent. Regardless of the system, communist or capitalist, and though our goals may deviate, we are all pursuing happiness and comfort, the tools used to attain this products of that society. That said, it is immediately legible whereabouts Becker wishes us to view the East German state as wholly negative, and he does this through several key scenes. At the film s opening, we learn of the first East German shot into space, surely an apotheosis of what a state can achieve, its grasp extending to the stars. But behind the curtain of this vast achievement we can see how it is brought about through the utter bending of citizens to the states will. Alex s mother Christiane, who we first assume the innocent of the piece, is interrogated by the Stasi for her husband has fled the country. It s only around seventy five degrees, but that doesn t falter our excitement for the beach. The sun shines through the clouds as we head down to pick a spot. In Hilton Head, near Coligny Beach, the small village where we stay is quite somnolent. It seems like no one is ever awake before 9am. In the center of the sleepy town there s a Piggly Wiggly. For Toni Morrison the racism is shouted clear as day throughout the story, but it leaves you with a weird feeling of oddness. To start with our main girl Pecola, who even though is the main protagonist, she is quite weak and mysterious though the book. Her passive way towards her family and bulling, led her to believe she was ugly (what her mother said about her the minute she was born) and the only way to change her life was to change her eye color blue, like all the happy white girls had it. Pecola s passiveness made her not able to change throughout the story, thus leaving the readers angry at Morrison for not saving the girl, because that would be out of character. instead you are left bitter about the other character s reactions towards Pecola, because she will not do anything to defend herself, thus you are left reading about the misfortunes that fall upon the poor child. Claudia is seen as an opposite to Pecola, and although she is also black, she resents the white blonde blue eye America dream that Pecola wants, but instead destroys any propaganda about it (ripping the heads of her Barbie dolls), and defend Pecola, not seeing why people mock her friend. These two points contradict as they are total opposites and they suggest two different things. We are all monsters, Chaya said, because we are letting it happen. However, Rivka also says, We are all heroes here. These two points have two many different perspectives on what people are like in the concentration camps. Both statements have their points, but the mostly correct one goes to Rivka. One of the reasons for why Rivka is mostly correct is because all of the prisoners are making the best of what they have and they are trying to help the kids feel better, even with the situation of being locked into a concentration camp. I say this because it states on page 135, The afternoon Gitl organized a rope and the children played jumping games after dinner. In this part of the story, Chaya performs a selfless act to save Rivka and sacrifices herself in order to save one more life. This scene definitely shows how people in the concentration camps help save each other. • 33. Evolution Vs. Fossil Records Evolution has been a widely known discussion that many people have had over the past century, the theory of evolution has been welcomed by many scientists yet by some religious people it has been a taboo topic. The thought or the motion to entertain that humans evolved from primates is what some people would shudder and state that it goes against all their religious beliefs. However, scientist have pushed on the fact that evolutionis not just a hypothetical or an outlandish theory but a theory that has multiple hard evidence to back it and that to ignore is ignorance and just plain stupidity. Four types of evidence of evolution are fossil records, genetic changes, the geographic distribution of species, and the similarities in embryos of species. One of the evidences of evolution is fossil records, with fossil records being the remains of plants and animals that scientist have found in sedimentary rocks. Fossil records have given us irrefutable evidence of evolution in the past, over a course of a long period of time, proving there is significant variation amongst living things. Evolution is a continuum; all the minor changes over a period of time add up to a major change. On the continuum, fossils are the points that displaying what the organism had become after evolving at that stage in time. The defeat of Harold at the Battle of Hastings gave feudalism a really strong start in the country since none of the people of England agreed to a feudal government system the system was strong because it was basically forced upon them. Another point where feudalism was strong in the country was with its army. Since the country had been divided into several plots, each plot had its own army therefore when all armies united to fight as one county the army was big. Another strong point was that England was that the barons did not get in the way of the life routine of the peasants as much as other countries did. (Mroczka) The aim of the following discussion is to contextualize this organization within American theatre history while illustrating the positive and negative impacts of The Theatrical Syndicate on the theatre community. For much of the 19th century, theatre production hinged on resident stock company and visiting star systems. The former was an English import and signified the delineations between a permanent or touring company. Resident companies had an arsenal of plays that would be performed nightly, on a rotating basis, by actors selected on their ability to play interchangeable stock characters. This practice was innovated mid century by the visiting star system. The resident stock company was self sufficient in staging productions, but when big name actors came into town, they would often make their way on the bill for local productions as a way to draw crowds. The bulimic workaholic is one that thinks that a job must be done PERFECTLY or not done at all. The relentless workaholic, described as an adrenaline junkie, is one that tends to take on more work than can possibly be done. The attention deficit workaholic is one that starts a job with a fury but then fails to finish because of lost interest for another job. The savoring workaholic is one that works very slowly, is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. The Russian Revolution Of Russia On July 17th 1918 Nicholas II of Russia was gunned down by communist revolutionists along with his family. The New York Times first heard of this event July 21st, 1918 when they printed the article that Ex Czar of Russia Killed by Order of Ural Soviet. The russian government had announced the death of Nicholas Romanoff on July 20th at the same time claiming that the former Empress and Alexis Romanoff, the heir, were in a place of security. The Russian government claimed that a counter revolutionary conspiracy was discovered which lead them to make the decision to execute the former ruler. In the following days a rumor spread that Alexis Romanoff had died of exposure after his father s death, the russian government denied this claiming that The family of Nicholas Romanoff is safe in a Siberian monastery in Abalak. Unfortunately, these claims and announcements the Russian government gave about the ex Czar s family were false propaganda. His entire family was shot and killed along with him and buried out in the wilderness where they died. Rumors spread for years after the event on the prospect of survivors, a funny parallel since when the general populace did not know the family had been killed they had spread rumors that they had died. Fakes and claimants of the ex Czar s daughter Anastasia began to appear all around Europe, inspiring the 1997 disney movie of Anastasia. Though with the recent science of DNA testing and the discovery of the grave in the mid late 20th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Lauren Lark Reaction Paper On Friday, February 3rd, 2017, a Jazz artist named Lauren Lark came to perform in the Julia Ball Auditorium at Gwynedd Mercy University. This event was open to anyone who wanted to join and was in honor of Black History Month. Going into this event, I was not sure what to expect. I typically do not go to concerts and in particular, I do not listen to Jazz; however, I do like to learn about new things, so I was excited. This show brought to light the women composers of many ethnic backgrounds and because of MusicAppreciation, not only was I able to enjoy the music, but I was now also able to pick out the different pitches, dynamics, and rhythms, along with many other musical components. My musical background is very narrow. I had basic music classes in elementary school and took flute lessons for about three months when I was eleven years old. I typically only listen to country, pop, and hip hop; however, I do teach Irish... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, Lord Lay Some Soul Upon My Heart was the blues and had a little bit of a minor tone towards it with lots of syncopation. I recognized this song because we sometimes sing it at my church. Lauren Lark s voice had octave leaps in it which sounds really cool and is probably pretty hard to do for someone with just an average singing voice. The second Billy Holiday song, Good Morning Heartache had a tempo at adagio to andante. The piano performed in a short, detached manner which can be referred to as staccato. The trumpet did a call and response with the vocalist which is when she sings and the trumpet echoes back. It was really cool to see that be done in a song since I have never seen something like that live before. They performed two other songs by Billy Holiday called God Bless The Child , which was played forte and the tempo was presto and Willow Weep For Me , which was played in a minor key and had a crescendo in the middle followed by a decrescendo to ... • 52. Generation View Of Reality Essay Generation s View of Reality Ben Stiller s 1994 film, Reality Bites, portrays the broad based struggles of America s twentysomethings through a lighthearted glimpse into the lives of the movie s main characters. Four friends, recently graduated from college, find themselves over educated and under employed, a theme reiterated in the lives of many Generation Xers according to critic Marilyn Gardner. She states, unemployment is higher for those under 25 then it is for the workforce as a whole. (pg. 14, col. 1) Though Reality Bites bills itself as a comedy about love in the 90 s, the film is more of a commentary on the issues facing young adults today (Kempley, Sec. C., pg 7). The central theme concerning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Michael is a producer for In Your Face Television, a spoof on MTV, the channel of choice for our generation. Though Michael is young enough to be included in Generation X, his ideals revolve around possessions as a measure of success, something no authentic member of Generation X would tolerate. Somewhere in the middle is Lalaina, a strange mixture of the two. She is the valedictorian of her graduating class and is briefly employed by a television talk show as an intern like production assistant until she is fired. In her valedictory address, she condemns the BMW driving older generation of her parents who have left a lack of employment and natural resources for her and her peers. Ironically, her graduation gift from her father is a used BMW, which she concedes to drive until she can afford an inexpensive car of her own. Lalaina s unemployment leads her to look for jobs where she is inexperienced (working as a news journalist) to over qualified (flipping burgers at Burgerama), none of which are fruitful. Lalaina

  • 54. Essay on Big Black Good Man Big Black Good Man The idea of racism and prejudice has seemingly always been apart of society. Whether it were to be as bad as a full out segregation of schools or just underlying thoughts. In the short story Big Black Good Man by Richard Wright. The narrator has a limited omniscient point of view. This gives us great insight into what the main character Olaf Jenson is thinking about the other character Jim throughout the story. Richard Wright did a great job of giving us a look into what was then and may still be today, an example of the average racist. The short storyBig Black Good Man by Richard Wright, begins with the main character Olaf Jenson sitting at his desk in a hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark. In the beginning... (186) Olaf then takes the money apprehensively and puts it in his safe for Jim. Olaf continues to refer to Jim using words with such negative and dehumanizing connotations to them. Such as the black mass, living breathing blackness and large black cloud of muscle and fat. Olaf showed Jim to his room. After finally getting the room all ready for him, Jim requests a lady and a bottle of whiskey. Yes, Olaf whispered, wild with anger and insult. (186) Olaf did not actually have a reason to be angry, but he had reluctance to phone any women, for he thought that any normal women would be right for him. He was too big and too black for a normal woman. God oughtn t make men as big and black as that. (186) It is here that we really begin to see the prejudice and racist remarks start to emit from Olaf. We begin to see that it is not that he is just fearful but it is his prejudice that is causing this mentality of fear in him. He finally calls a woman up named Lena. He explains to Lena how big and black Jim is. Lena proceeds to say that He s just a man, Lena told him, her voice singing stridently, laughing over the wire. You just leave that to me. You don t have to do anything. I ll handle im. (187) Lena did not have any care that Jim was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
