The Ancient Greeks And The Ancient Greek Sculptures
In about c.580 BCE the Kouros (Youth) was created. This is a sculpture of a Greek God standing in
the frontal position with one foot pointed forward and the hips still straight. This shows a godly
position because realistically humans cannot stand like this. This is very important because for the
Greeks to mimic the Ancient Egyptian sculpting styles you can see that they are trying to make a
statement. They are trying to expand the footprint of the art of the Ancient Egyptians. They
specifically followed the stance and facial expressions of the sculptures which we see now as a Godly
stance because humans cannot physically stand the way that they are standing. The resemblance
between the Ancient Greek and the Ancient Egyptian sculptures is very important because the
Egyptian Pharaohs are known as Demi Gods and the Ancient Greek were showing themselves as Gods
in their Sculptures. In the Kuros from Tenea head you can see that they mouth has a smile to it. This is
something new to us. We did not see a smile in these types of sculptures for a long time. This is very
important because the Greeks are straying away from the Egyptian sculptures and becoming more
human. The smile shows more human features which means that they are evolving their way of
making art into something new and innovative. As the Greeks sculptures evolve they become more
and more human in ways. The more the Greeks evolve, the more human their sculptures become and
the more they stray away from

Ancient Greek Trabeated System
The trabeated system, otherwise known as post and lintel, was one of the most important systematic
principles used by ancient Greek architects. The way the structures were designed was by two vertical
columns or posts holding up an horizontal architrave. Architects used this technique to support the
weight of the architrave above openings. The trabeated system, not only used in ancient Greece, was
also seen throughout prehistoric architecture as far back as the stone age.
Stonehenge, assumed to be finished in 1500 B.C., is one of the most iconic architectural structures in
the history of the world. Built in the Stone age, this monumental structure was advanced for its time. It
was assumed to be a burial site for the Aristocrats of the time.

Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong...
The Unescapable Net:
Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese
American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir,
and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it
seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines,
especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old
China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal
and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a
paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese
cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background
is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her
mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American
woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash
between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under the male dominated society and
feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting male dominance, but at the same
time admitting it. Women, in ancient China, are usually treated as lower social status and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Overdraft
1. Overdraft
Overdraft may occur when the amount of money which is withdrawn from a bank account exceeds the
amount available (Overdraft, 2015). Normally it happens when an individual writes the total on the
check more than the total balance in the account. The bank will cover the checks and allows the
customers to deposit or place more funds into the account in order to cover the negative balance. In
addition, the bank will charge an interest at the agreed rate (Overdraft, 2015) on this short term loan
instead of charging fees. Basically, the bank would not reject the customers check when there is no
enough funds which are available to cover up because the customes pay for the overdraft protection on
their account.

Essay on Integrity
integrity Danielle Shingleton
Exemplification essay
10/3/10
Integrity
We are presented with choices every day. Many are easy to make and cause very little stress, but some
choices can be extremely difficult and have significant consequences. The difference between making
the right choice or the wrong one is often determined be a persons character, which is based upon the
qualities of integrity, responsibility, and honesty. Gaining an understanding of these three character
traits and how to build them is critical to creating a lifetime of positive outcomes.
Honesty is the quality or fact of being honest. Finding a pen off the floor and giving it to a teacher is
honesty. Not keeping the pen was respectful and honest, in order to reach ... Show more content on

The Nazis saw Hitler as a man with integrity. We saw Hitler as a cruel unfair man without integrity.
Good character and integrity are easiest to demonstrate when facing public disapproval, but the true
test comes when you can potentially get away with anything because then nothing is at stake but your
own conscience. Trustworthy is very similar to truthfulness, uprightness, and honor. Truthfulness is
when a person consistently tells the truth, and is honest. Honor is the equality of being honorable, and
to show respect for others. These simple but powerful words are components of integrity. A person of
integrity does exactly what he says and says exactly what he means. There is no conflict between his
thoughts and actions. His actions are consistent with the values he professes. According to Dr. William
Manninger, A building without integrity may receive structural damage, or even collapse, in a storm.
Similarly, people without integrity are blown about by the winds of misfortune and destroyed by
catastrophes, for they lack the firmness, solidity, and strength of character to weather any storm. This
means that integrity is one of the six essential qualities that are the key to success. The other five are
sincerity, humility, courtesy, wisdom, and charity. Integrity is about doing what is right rather than
what is appropriate. Not everyone has integrity; the family life

Equal Pay Differentials
The debate of equal pay between men and women has been an ongoing issue for years and is still
being debated to this day, the belief that men deserve to be paid more than women solely based on
gender, is an outdated opinion that is being addressed through different types of legal laws. The Equal
Pay Act of 1963 was the first step towards an adjustment of balance in pay for women (EEOC, n.d.).
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is an amendment of the Fair Labor Standards Acts, a federal statute of the
United States. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is a U.S. federal law enforced by the U.S. Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and aimed at ending wage mismatch based on sex. .
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed into law on June 10, 1963, by John F. Kennedy as part of his
New Frontier Program (EEOC, n.d.). The Equal Pay Act of 1963 enforced that, Employers ... Show

Pay differentials are permitted, when they are based on seniority, merit, quantity or quality of
production, or a factor other than sex. These are known as affirmative defenses, Employers have the
task of proving factors other than gender are the reason for pay differentials (SHRM.org, n.d.).
Congress expressed that sex discrimination, depresses wages and living standards for employees
necessary for their health and efficiency, prevents the maximum utilization of the available labor
resources, tends to cause labor disputes, thereby burdening, affecting, and obstructing commerce,
burdens commerce and the free flow of goods in commerce, and constitutes an unfair method of
competition (Wikipedia, n.d.). Due to the growth of women furthering their education and interring
into the workforce obtaining positions generally held by men, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 is vital in
making sure women are being treated and equally compensated for the work they do in occupations
traditionally dominated by men. I guess some of you could have probably guessed why I would pick

Twilight Is Not Good For Maidens Essay
Motherhood and adulthood become some of the potential themes as the series progresses, this can be
unsettling as Bella is barely out of high school. A young girl defining her identity is an obstacle on its
own, but adding in complex aspects of adulthood can make it worse. Another unsettling, yet
unsurprising aspect of Twilight, pertains to the overwhelming need Bella seems to have to grow up too
fast. It can be assumed that the author placed this element into the text because her target audience
could relate to the feeling. Often times, rushing to participate in adult lifestyles such as sex, marriage
or motherhood, means losing part of one s individuality. The central idea of feminism is to be
recognized as an individual, independent and equal of a man. ... Show more content on

Ironically and traditionally speaking, all of these rituals involve a man. Bella evaluates her own
mother and makes a comparison between them saying, I was a very different person from my mother.
Someone thoughtful and cautious. The responsible one, the grownup (Meyer, Twilight 450). Perhaps
Bella s extreme desire to get married to Edward, have sex, and become a mother stem from the lack of
mothering in her own life. As Anna Silver points out in her article, Twilight is Not Good for Maidens:
Gender, Sexuality, and the Family in Stephenie Meyer s Twilight Series , motherhood also allows a
woman to gain power, making herself more equal with a man (Silver 129). Becoming pregnant allows
the female to make important and mature decisions about her health and health of the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Infant Respiratory Distress...
Overview of Disease
Each day there are thousands of babies born, and families wait for their new loved ones to enter the
world. However, there are also many complications that may occur with child birth. Approximately
50% of neonates born at 26 28 weeks gestation develop respiratory distress syndrome, whereas less
than 30% of premature neonates born at 30 31 weeks gestation develop the condition (MedScape).
Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or IRDS for short, is a restrictive lung disease that commonly
occurs in premature babies. A common cause is a lack of surfactant that is commonly found in
developed lungs. Surfactant is a liquid that uses proteins and lipids to help decrease the surface tension
between the alveoli to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pathophysiology
When premature babies are born they do not have fully developed lungs because the lungs are one of
the last organs in the body to be produced. The alveoli in the baby s lungs have not yet started making
surfactant, which is typically produced when the baby is 34 36 weeks gestation. When the alveoli do
not have surfactant, the alveoli want to naturally collapse. Surfactant helps to keep the alveoli open
and create more surface area for gas exchange. If you were to look at the infant s lungs using a
microscope, you can see that lungs look as though they are solid from the areas where the alveoli have
collapsed, also known as atelectasis. To try to compensate for the atelectasis, the respiratory
bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and some of the alveoli dilate to decrease airway resistance and increase
gas exchange (Jardins 476). As the disease worsens, the walls of the alveoli become lined with a
hyaline membrane that is made up of dead cells and proteins that make it nearly impossible for gas
exchange to occur. It makes the lungs stiff and much harder to ventilate. With the lungs being
noncompliant, the baby starts to become hypoxic. When the infant becomes hypoxic, blood is shunted
away from the other organs in the body and venous return and cardiac output are decreased.
Hypoxemia is common in pulmonary hypertension (PH) and may be partly related to
ventilation/perfusion mismatch, low diffusion

Persuasive Essay On Naps
Naps. Everyone has taken naps at some point in their life. We take them after a long day of school, a
long day of work, or when we didn t get enough sleep the night before. We take naps all the time, but
do we truly know how naps affect our body? Do we truly know how we benefit from naps? Sleep is a
complicated process that many of us take for granted. Without sleep, we would die. Sleep has many
benefits, but unfortunately some people with sleep disorders or people with night shift jobs are unable
to experience the benefits of sleep. The majority of people in the world face sleep deprivation because
they do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep a night. Since many people are constantly in a

When we take naps, we are contributing to our brain forming these key memories. When conducting a
study, researchers found that our memories are formed and consolidated in the REM and Stage 2
NREM categories of sleep. They discovered that REM and Stage 2 NREM support a variety of
powerful sleep dependent memory processes that act to (i) enlarge the neural networks in which
memories are stored, (ii) integrate these new memories with other, older memories, into rich semantic
networks, and (iii) extract patterns and rules from large bodies of encoded information (Stickgold).
When we enter REM sleep or Stage 2 during our naps, we undergoing these processes and

has also emphasized the importance of NREM sleep including stage 2 for efficient motor
consolidation (Debarnot). Motor imagery goes along with our memories. Studies were conducted and
they showed that daytime naps helped with not only memory consolidation, but with our motor
imagery. The results proved that daytime naps helped people perform different motor skills and tasks
after following their nap. When researchers compared the data with people who had not taken a nap,
they saw that by not taking a nap, their ability to perform the same tasks was actually slowed down
compared to those that had taken a nap (Debarnot). This research

Jackson Turner Thesis
Historian Frederick Jackson Turner wrote an essay called, The Significance of the Frontier in
American History, in which he debated about the prestige of the American democracy and culture.
Turner presented his essay at an American Historian Association in Chicago during World s Fair in
1893; even though at that time his essay was ignored, it gained remarkable recognition and was
labeled as an especially influential piece of American writing. In addition, Turner pointed out that
having cheap, vacant land has been the foundation the American democracy. The Chicago World s
Fair offered variety of American and World cultural aspects, but despite having a wide range of
cultures on display the whites of the fair were racists and labeled the African Americans as the moral
monster . Turner s thesis ignored the Natives along with their cultures and implied that the white
Christian ways should be more dominant. The United States attempted to actualize the Turner thesis at
the end of the 19th century by sending out missions into foreign lands, transporting out troops into

The Symphony Orchestra At The Usf Concert Hall
On the afternoon of November 23rd, there was a performance by the USF Symphony Orchestra at the
USF Concert Hall. Their performance, which was masterful from beginning to end, featured guest
artists Jay Hunsberger on the tuba and Dolly Roberts on the harp. The performance began with
Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, a piece that started with a bang. The pang of a gong,
and the beat of the drums, immediately captured and captivated the audience from the start. The slow
build that led up to the trumpets and other brass instruments folding in, possessed an almost
militaristic feel. Upon looking into the composer, it was no wonder why the triumphant sounds
produced by the brass instruments came off as militaristic. Copland composed the piece during World
War II. According to Elizabeth Bergman Crist, Copland: . . . committed himself to creating music at

identifiably American. The desire to be American was symptomatic of the period, he wrote in a later
reminiscence. He recalled being anxious to write a work that would immediately be recognized as
American in character and so turned to jazz as an easy way to be American in musical terms. ( Music

Copland accomplished his goal of creating American music. Fanfare for the Common Man is an

Relevance Of Emotional Intelligence
The purpose of this essay is to explain on the relevancy of Emotional Intelligence in which of how it is
connected in organizational behavior. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) was first introduced to the public in
1995 by a physiologist named Dr. Daniel Goleman, even other sources were aware that it may have
discussed earlier to date as of 1985. According to Goleman, Emotional Intelligence is a type of social
intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one s own and other s feeling and emotions, to
discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one s thinking and actions. In the
context of organizational behavior, the EQ principles provide a new way to understand and assess
people s behaviors, management styles, attitudes, interpersonal skills, and potential. It plays an
important consideration in human resources planning, job profiling, recruitment activities, interview
sessions, management development, customer relations and customer service, and many other related
to organization activities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a hit, being one of the best international bestselling book. Later, Goleman developed the
argument that non cognitive skills can matter as much as I.Q. for workplace success in Working with
Emotional Intelligence (1998, Bantam Books). The author begins by describing that the intellectual
intelligence in entirely based on the neocortex, the most recently evolved parts of the brain. Emotional
intelligence would depend much more on the emotional centers of the lower brain, the more primitive
sub cortex. Intelligence is the potential for learning something, and technical skills learnt depend on
the academic intelligence. Emotional competencies stem from the emotional intelligence of each

Social Constructivist Leadership
Abstract
The Making of a Leader: A Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences of Women Who Have
Served as President at U.S. Colleges and Universities
Katrina L. Jackson, Ed.D.
Drexel University, May 2015
Chairperson: Kathy D. Geller
Women in the position of president at U.S. colleges and universities have defied the odds. Since the
1980s, the number of women presidents in colleges and universities has grown, increasing from 9.5%
in 1986 to only 26.0% in 2011. Although the percentage of women presidents of these institutions has
increased, there is still an underrepresentation of women in the role of president (American Council on
Education, 2012).
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the reported and lived experiences of
women who became college and university presidents, with the goal of creating a better understanding

Social constructivism is a worldview that argues that the nature of reality is based on the individual
and his or her beliefs and experiences. Gergen (1985) stated, From the constructionist position the
process of understanding is not automatically driven by the forces of nature, but is the result of an
active, cooperative enterprise of persons in relationship (p. 267). This perspective acknowledges
historical and cultural biases as primary influences on the construction of an individual s worldview
and suggests that Descriptions and explanations of the world themselves constitute forms of social
action (Gergen, 1985, pp. 267 268). As a social constructivist, I recognize that when people tell stories
of their lived experiences, certain phrases may be expressed through body movements, facial
expressions, and gestures, and these actions further illuminate what the individual is communicating
(Gergen, 1985). Using the social constructivist paradigm helps the researcher better understand the
world in which each individual participant

Classicalism vs. Positivism
Classicalism vs. Positivism What is crime? What makes people commit crimes and how can we stop
it? These, and many other questions similar to these, are asked by criminologists everyday.
Criminology is an ever growing field, mainly because there is more and more research occurring and
new theories linking people and crime coming out everyday. Below the main field of criminology
there are many subfields that have different theories and philosophies on what they believe link
criminal behavior. Two of the main criminology perspectives are Classical Criminology and Positivist
Criminology. Although these two are both studied in the criminology field, their views are distinctly
contradictory from each other. These two theories and many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Yet another criticism is their belief in deterrence. Research has shown that there is little correlation
between punishment and crime, meaning that there is not a significant amount of information showing
that deterrence actually works leading it into a controversial issue. People commit crimes for many
different reasons that classicalists fail to acknowledge. Classical criminology was the first big step into
what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in
the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the
classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the
nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and
analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or
reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm
21). Positivism has two main elements: One is the belief that human behavior is a function of forces
beyond a person s control [and] the second aspect of positivism is embracing the scientific method to
solve problems (Siegel 7 8). . Positivism is known for the use of science and the scientific method in
their research. Positivists such as Lombroso, whom is considered the father of criminology, set the
stage for examination of external forces

Analyzing Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, And Nite Owl
Comic books have picked up popularity as a method for scholars to gain insight as to how society
confronts problems. The purpose of my research is to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante and
how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr. Manhattan,
Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and violence differently.
To accurately understand the concepts aforementioned, it is imperative the reader look to the gutter of
the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the Human imagination takes two separate
images and transforms them into a single idea (McCloud 66). In his chapter blood in the gutter
McCloud explains, violence often happens inside the gutter to protect reader s sensibility. However,
violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything deemed perhaps too risqué also
happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character s sexuality will also take place in the gutter.
Readers must use their imagination to create closure from the gaps that the gutter leaves. When the
gutter is taken into consideration most of what defines a hero s masculinity takes place there.
The first character I want to discuss is Dr. Manhattan and how his sexuality and use of violence play
into his performance of masculinity. Dr. Manhattan cannot understand the human conceptions of
sexuality or the true repercussions of violence; therefore, he uses the ideology of society to go

How Did Erasmus Influence Humanism
The works of the Dutch humanist Desiderius Erasmus, often titled the
Praise of Folly, Erasmus s seminal pre Reformation essay examines aspects of Church teaching as
well as aspects of worship which Erasmus deems worthy of the biting satire he utilises
Erasmus was unrelenting in his criticism of pedantry, sophistry and demagoguery among both clerical

Rediscovery of Aristotle and the birth of humanism in the renaissance

, placing Erasmus in either camp, given his reputation as simultaneously the intellectual godfather of
Reformation thought and his ostensible life long loyalty (despite his persistent criticisms) to the
Roman church is innately problematic.
Erasmus s own view of Praise of Folly is a subject of much dispute. Going by his own writings it
seems unsure just how seriously he expected that particularly work to be taken. Certainly its
theological merit is utterly overshadowed by much of the rest of his body of work.
Hard to know how much import Erasmus himself attached to the work given his writings hence and it
place as a relatively insignificant part of a substantial corpus of work over his life.
The power and potency of Praise of Folly and the effectiveness of Folly as a serious messenger were
perhaps inadvertent on the part of the author.
It s more important historically then literarily.

Why was Peter s visit to Cornelius controversial?
The controversial came from Peter s realization that Jewish customs forbidding contact with Gentiles
were inconsistent with following Jesus (10:28). When Cornelius and other non Jesus received the
Holy Spirit, in the same way that Peter and other Jesus did, Peter understood that the people of God
were not limited to those of Jewish ancestry and social custom (10:34 35; 44, 47).
V. Why were many early Christians leery of Saul?
Because Saul was persecuting Christian and other Jews who accepted Jesus as the Messiah (8:1 3). He
was in on the stoning as Stephen, so when Saul became a Jesus follower people were leery of him, and
they thought he was plotting to trap them.
VI. Name the three accounts of Saul s (Paul s) conversion (Acts 9:1 31; 22:4 16; 26:9 18).
1. Saul was approached on the Damascus road on his mission to arrest Christians, suddenly shined a
light down around him, he fell to the ground and heard a voice speaking to him.
2. Saul was blind by the light and was led to Damascus where Ananias met with him so he could
regain his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

the synagogues, saying Jesus indeed is the Son of

Alexander Plutarch s Influence On Alexander The Great
Best known for his writings of leading figures in antiquity and his essays on ethics and virtue, Plutarch
s biography on Alexander the Great and his vision would influence tremendously upon future western
writers in regard to the interpretation of Alexander the Great. Plutarch s Alexander s fortune and virtue
claimed that Alexander s aim for his empire was homonoia, the unity of mankind and fusion between
civilizations. According to Plutarch, Alexander rejected the traditional Greek view that Persian were
barbarians, and instead proclaimed that Alexander was intentionally trying to establish a sense of
oneness throughout his empire. In the more than two millennium since Plutarch s biography and
writing of Alexander, there has been a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, as he believed that he came as a heaven sent governor to all, and as a mediator for the whole

were, men s lives, their characters, their marriages, their very habits of life.
In the quote above, Plutarch illustrates that Alexander rejected the Greek view, of such as Aristotle,
that he and other Greeks were the master of other people, and that Alexander believed he came down
from heaven to governor all, to bring together men everywhere, uniting and mixing men s lives.
Furthermore, Plutarch adds that as a result of Alexander the Great s military expedition, new subjects

Dotus Variation Lab Report
Introduction
For the past few weeks in Biology 107, the class has been touching on the subject of evolution and
how it is brought about through various processes. Evolution is a concept that has been researched
extensively for over a century now and continues to bring interesting findings day after day.
According to the Hardy Weinberg law (a principle that contributes to the understanding of evolution)
first introduced by Godfrey Hardy and Wilhelm Weinberg states that there are five possible agents of
evolutionary change, including: natural selection, genetic drift, mutations, gene flow, and nonrandom
mating. Nonetheless, the mechanism of interest for this particular lab is natural selection. According to
Mader, Natural Selection is the mechanism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is only one case the results all seem to give a reasonable explanation to how this
simulation can be applied in natural environments. It is logical to assume that the phenotypes (colors)
that stand out in the environment (map) will most likely be the ones selected (eaten) by predators. For
example, in this experiment the phenotypes subjected to positive selection pressure for the most part
were dark colored dots or dots that were better blended into the environment, more specifically the
green and clear colors who most likely blended with the grasses or trees. The phenotypes that were
subjected to negative selection pressure were much of the bright colored dots that stood out in the
environment, more specifically the hot pink, orange, and yellow colors. Furthermore, there are many
similar documented cases and scenarios that go to show that these types of results are likely in the
wild. One example is that of the tadpole fish who alter their body symmetry (the way they look) in
response to predators. According to Herzog, Rabus, Ribeiro and Laforsch (coauthors of Inducible
Defenses with a Twist : Daphnia barbata Abandons Bilateral Symmytry in Response to an Ancient
Predator, ) the body torsion likely contributes to the increased survival rate of Triops induced
D.barbata. These two examples, although not even a fraction of experiments performed, show strong
evidence of the effects

Zimbardo s Theory Of Social Psychology
Throughout history there have been hundreds upon hundreds of influential figures, although not all of
them have devoted their career to understanding the human mind. Of the few who have devoted their
time to this hugely important task, Dr. Philip G. Zimbardo s theories and experiments have made him
stand out, and differentiate himself from the rest in his profession. Zimbardo s area of expertise in the
field of psychology is social psychology, the branch that deals with social interactions, including their
origins and their effects on the individual. Zimbardo may be most well known for his Stanford Prison
experiment, an experiment that seems to address the definition of social psychology perfectly. In this
experiment Zimbardo had clinically healthy and sane people volunteer for the position of a prison
guard or a prisoner and see how they behaved, for fifteen dollars a day. The prison was actually the
basement of the Stanford psychology building, where the experiment would take place for a planned
14 days. As said before, the prisoners and guards were all tested as mentally healthy, and for the sake
of the experiment were arrested, and processed on a random morning, August 14th 1971. (Zimbardo,
2007, p. 23). The results of this experiment are outstanding, shocking, and somewhat disturbing,
making this one of, if not, the most unethical psychological experiments. Although the experiment is
considered wildly immoral, Zimbardo is one of the most influential psychologists

Using a calorimeter, you will determine the enthalpy change for this reaction.
Question
What is the relationship between the number of moles of reactants used and the change in enthalpy of
neutralization reaction?
Hypothesis
As the number of moles of reactants used increases, the change in enthalpy of a neutralization reaction
will increase.

I Hate Children s Theater
I hate children s theater! I despise the term, and yet I love creating work for children. Calling my
practice Children s theater limits possibilities, as many consider this field of performance more
educational rather than holding high artistic merits, which leaves me frustrated. I am an artist, not a
schoolteacher, and have seen work for young audiences from all over the world with the highest
artistic quality; an aesthetic I strive to achieve. This perspective can be a challenge to express when I
meet people, as I have to navigate multiple terms and narratives for the cast of stakeholders in my

play. To prevent this, I tell the artists I make children s theater for people who hate children s theater .
In other words, I kill animals on stage puppet animals to be exact. Parents die, no child learns a lesson,
and sometimes, we don t even use a narrative. This explanation sparks a laugh in artists and generates
interest in my practice and gives me the ability to produce the kind of shows that I want to create.
Ultimately, my voice gets invited into the diverse circle of artists who create work for adults.
Talking points must adjust as I jump to the next stakeholder. I rely on an ecosystem to make theater
and depend solely on an audience to support my artistic practice and value system. Without the value
system supported, the work and those who create it will not thrive. I strive to make meaningful,
inclusive content with a high production value and pay a fair wage to every artist involved with the
company. Accessibility becomes a top priority, striving to reach as many differently abled, racial and
economically diverse children an opportunity to come to the show. To adhere to these values, I need
an audience to buy tickets to support this work.
Consequently, the sustainability of my practice no longer relies on standard institutional models; it
depends on moms. Years ago, I realized grants drained

Pleistoina Hypothesis
Through the Pleistocene, the human race witnessed a remarkable integer of extinctions of huge earthly
species. In this extinction Australia nineteen genera while the Americas lost over seventy genera.
Almost all of these were animals of virtually large sizes (Donald, 1991). The North America witnessed
the loss of elephants, camels, horses ground sloths, pronghorn, ovibovids, peccaries and the giant
beaver. On the other hand, South America lost ground sloths, elephants, horses, and a numbers of
camels, rhinoceros sized giant rodent species and glyptodonts. Australia lost herbivorous marsupials
larger than modern day kangaroos The extinction of this mega fauna is largely linked to two main
hypotheses. The first hypothesis is linked to the worldwide climate changes that took place during the
Pleistocene resulting to environmental pressures that forced the extermination of several megafaunal
species. The second hypothesis puts it forward that the worldwide spread of humanity and hunter
gatherer survival practices were accountable for these deaths. Nevertheless, a close examination of
these two theories discloses that neither climate changes nor human overkill was likely to be
independent to blame for the Pleistocene exterminations. The two were intertwined thus a synthetic
theory that comprises both theories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Selective evolution came into play favoring one species and driving the other away. Due to their
bigger size the megafaunal were more affect by the competition than their smaller existing species.
The above is because the large animals need more primary habitats for forage and more water to keep

forced large animals into co habituating smaller regions, holding inadequate wherewithal to sustain
them all. The outcome was the removal of some species due to

Intestinal Tract Microbiome
The importance of the intestinal tract microbiome in rheumatic illness was identified when the
existence of specific microbes was correlated with the reactive arthritis development. Studies
demonstrating that the presence of a specific resident bacterial DNA in synovial fluids of arthritic
patients, supported the notion that in hereditary susceptible humans exposure to degraded products of
the intestinal microbiome locally in synovium might cause inflammation. It is conceivable infections
Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, and Campylobacter can lead to arthritis, specifically, in people who

Essay about Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln Hero or Racist?
Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the most interesting presidents in the history of the United States.
Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he
was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. There have been numerous discussions regarding
Lincoln before the Civil War, during the war as Commander In Chief, or his views on slavery and
racial equality; furthermore, vast debates on his views, strategies, and solutions regarding events that
helped shape our nation. Abraham Lincoln is such an interesting person that discussions and debates
will lead to more questions open to more discussion and debate. What was Lincoln s view on ... Show

He still did not think blacks should have the right to vote, hold political offices, or marry white people.
He also still believed physical differences between the two races would prevent them from living
together socially and politically (186). Lincoln was against whites benefitting from slave labor and did
feel that blacks should be able to benefit from the fruits of their own labor. According to Dinesh D
Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not,
however, an abolitionist. Abolitionists wanted an immediate end to slavery and believed the rights of
slaves should not be compromised and that they had a duty to defend freedom, unreservedly, and
careless of the consequences (3).
What was the reason behind the Civil War? According to Carter G. Woodson and Charles H. Wesley,
when the Civil War started, Lincoln, in order to stay on the good side of supporters who had voted him
into office, publicly stated that he did not want to interfere with the slavery in the South ( The Negro
in the Civil War 361). Contrary to claims that he did not approve of slavery, Lincoln clearly
compromised the rights of slaves to be free in order to appease supporters of slavery by evading the
subject of slavery in the South. D Souza also asserts that Lincoln stated in correspondence to Andrew
Stephens, the former vice president of the Confederacy, that while we think it is wrong, and ought to
be restricted, it was not his intention to get

Taking a Look at the Gamble House
The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when
the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the
marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality
and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The
problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture
was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed
with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movement was
the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid
this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for
better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and
other household items.
The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style
or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy couple,
David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry Greene with
specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. The brothers were inspired by the concept of a total
work of art, which was the primary focus during the Arts and

3d Printing And Its Effects
Introduction
3D printing has been quoted by the Financial Times and from other sources as, Possibly being bigger
than the internet (Jun 21, 2012). The earliest 3D printing technologies first became visible in the late
1980 s. There are multiple different types of 3D printing technologies, which process different
materials in unique ways to create the desired object. Since the emergence of 3D printing,
developments and improvements to the process and the materials has greatly expanded the various
applications. 3D printing was invented as a means of speeding up the early stages of product
development, using simple material, and multiple applications.

Because of these advancements, like most technology, it soon made its way into the hands of the
consumers. In 2007 the first system under $10,000 was made by 3D Systems. However, it wasn t until
January 2009 that the first commercially available 3D printer was offered for sale.
3D Printing Technologies There are multiple different types of 3D printing technologies, which
process different materials in unique ways to create the desired object. Before you read on let us first
learn some basics about 3D printing, which will be explained later in greater detail. The starting point
for any 3D printing process is a 3D digital model, which can be created using a variety of 3D software
programs. The only limitations to 3D printing is the amount of material you have. The most common
and recognized material would be plastics, Ex. PLA and ABS. When using plastics, the process is as
follows: extruding the material in filament form through a heated extruder to form layers and create
the predetermined shape. Because parts can be printed directly, it is possible to produce very detailed
and intricate objects. As well as technology, there are multiple processes for 3D printing. The very
first being Stereolithography (SL). SL is a very accurate laser based process that works with
photopolymer resins (see picture one). Next is Digital Light Processing (DLP), which is similar to SL
in the aspect of photopolymers. The only major difference/advantage between the two is that DLP

  • 2. The Ancient Greeks And The Ancient Greek Sculptures In about c.580 BCE the Kouros (Youth) was created. This is a sculpture of a Greek God standing in the frontal position with one foot pointed forward and the hips still straight. This shows a godly position because realistically humans cannot stand like this. This is very important because for the Greeks to mimic the Ancient Egyptian sculpting styles you can see that they are trying to make a statement. They are trying to expand the footprint of the art of the Ancient Egyptians. They specifically followed the stance and facial expressions of the sculptures which we see now as a Godly stance because humans cannot physically stand the way that they are standing. The resemblance between the Ancient Greek and the Ancient Egyptian sculptures is very important because the Egyptian Pharaohs are known as Demi Gods and the Ancient Greek were showing themselves as Gods in their Sculptures. In the Kuros from Tenea head you can see that they mouth has a smile to it. This is something new to us. We did not see a smile in these types of sculptures for a long time. This is very important because the Greeks are straying away from the Egyptian sculptures and becoming more human. The smile shows more human features which means that they are evolving their way of making art into something new and innovative. As the Greeks sculptures evolve they become more and more human in ways. The more the Greeks evolve, the more human their sculptures become and the more they stray away from ... • 3. Ancient Greek Trabeated System The trabeated system, otherwise known as post and lintel, was one of the most important systematic principles used by ancient Greek architects. The way the structures were designed was by two vertical columns or posts holding up an horizontal architrave. Architects used this technique to support the weight of the architrave above openings. The trabeated system, not only used in ancient Greece, was also seen throughout prehistoric architecture as far back as the stone age. Stonehenge, assumed to be finished in 1500 B.C., is one of the most iconic architectural structures in the history of the world. Built in the Stone age, this monumental structure was advanced for its time. It was assumed to be a burial site for the Aristocrats of the time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong... The Unescapable Net: Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir, and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines, especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under the male dominated society and feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting male dominance, but at the same time admitting it. Women, in ancient China, are usually treated as lower social status and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Overdraft 1. Overdraft Overdraft may occur when the amount of money which is withdrawn from a bank account exceeds the amount available (Overdraft, 2015). Normally it happens when an individual writes the total on the check more than the total balance in the account. The bank will cover the checks and allows the customers to deposit or place more funds into the account in order to cover the negative balance. In addition, the bank will charge an interest at the agreed rate (Overdraft, 2015) on this short term loan instead of charging fees. Basically, the bank would not reject the customers check when there is no enough funds which are available to cover up because the customes pay for the overdraft protection on their account. • 6. Essay on Integrity integrity Danielle Shingleton Exemplification essay 10/3/10 Integrity We are presented with choices every day. Many are easy to make and cause very little stress, but some choices can be extremely difficult and have significant consequences. The difference between making the right choice or the wrong one is often determined be a persons character, which is based upon the qualities of integrity, responsibility, and honesty. Gaining an understanding of these three character traits and how to build them is critical to creating a lifetime of positive outcomes. Honesty is the quality or fact of being honest. Finding a pen off the floor and giving it to a teacher is honesty. Not keeping the pen was respectful and honest, in order to reach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Nazis saw Hitler as a man with integrity. We saw Hitler as a cruel unfair man without integrity. Good character and integrity are easiest to demonstrate when facing public disapproval, but the true test comes when you can potentially get away with anything because then nothing is at stake but your own conscience. Trustworthy is very similar to truthfulness, uprightness, and honor. Truthfulness is when a person consistently tells the truth, and is honest. Honor is the equality of being honorable, and to show respect for others. These simple but powerful words are components of integrity. A person of integrity does exactly what he says and says exactly what he means. There is no conflict between his thoughts and actions. His actions are consistent with the values he professes. According to Dr. William Manninger, A building without integrity may receive structural damage, or even collapse, in a storm. Similarly, people without integrity are blown about by the winds of misfortune and destroyed by catastrophes, for they lack the firmness, solidity, and strength of character to weather any storm. This means that integrity is one of the six essential qualities that are the key to success. The other five are sincerity, humility, courtesy, wisdom, and charity. Integrity is about doing what is right rather than what is appropriate. Not everyone has integrity; the family life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Equal Pay Differentials The debate of equal pay between men and women has been an ongoing issue for years and is still being debated to this day, the belief that men deserve to be paid more than women solely based on gender, is an outdated opinion that is being addressed through different types of legal laws. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was the first step towards an adjustment of balance in pay for women (EEOC, n.d.). The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is an amendment of the Fair Labor Standards Acts, a federal statute of the United States. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is a U.S. federal law enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and aimed at ending wage mismatch based on sex. . The Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed into law on June 10, 1963, by John F. Kennedy as part of his New Frontier Program (EEOC, n.d.). The Equal Pay Act of 1963 enforced that, Employers ... These are known as affirmative defenses, Employers have the task of proving factors other than gender are the reason for pay differentials (SHRM.org, n.d.). Congress expressed that sex discrimination, depresses wages and living standards for employees necessary for their health and efficiency, prevents the maximum utilization of the available labor resources, tends to cause labor disputes, thereby burdening, affecting, and obstructing commerce, burdens commerce and the free flow of goods in commerce, and constitutes an unfair method of competition (Wikipedia, n.d.). Due to the growth of women furthering their education and interring into the workforce obtaining positions generally held by men, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 is vital in making sure women are being treated and equally compensated for the work they do in occupations traditionally dominated by men. • 8. Twilight Is Not Good For Maidens Essay Motherhood and adulthood become some of the potential themes as the series progresses, this can be unsettling as Bella is barely out of high school. A young girl defining her identity is an obstacle on its own, but adding in complex aspects of adulthood can make it worse. Another unsettling, yet unsurprising aspect of Twilight, pertains to the overwhelming need Bella seems to have to grow up too fast. It can be assumed that the author placed this element into the text because her target audience could relate to the feeling. Often times, rushing to participate in adult lifestyles such as sex, marriage or motherhood, means losing part of one s individuality. The central idea of feminism is to be recognized as an individual, independent and equal of a man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ironically and traditionally speaking, all of these rituals involve a man. Bella evaluates her own mother and makes a comparison between them saying, I was a very different person from my mother. Someone thoughtful and cautious. The responsible one, the grownup (Meyer, Twilight 450). Perhaps Bella s extreme desire to get married to Edward, have sex, and become a mother stem from the lack of mothering in her own life. As Anna Silver points out in her article, Twilight is Not Good for Maidens: Gender, Sexuality, and the Family in Stephenie Meyer s Twilight Series , motherhood also allows a woman to gain power, making herself more equal with a man (Silver 129). Becoming pregnant allows the female to make important and mature decisions about her health and health of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Approximately 50% of neonates born at 26 28 weeks gestation develop respiratory distress syndrome, whereas less than 30% of premature neonates born at 30 31 weeks gestation develop the condition (MedScape). Infant Respiratory Distress Syndrome, or IRDS for short, is a restrictive lung disease that commonly occurs in premature babies. A common cause is a lack of surfactant that is commonly found in developed lungs. Surfactant is a liquid that uses proteins and lipids to help decrease the surface tension between the alveoli to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pathophysiology When premature babies are born they do not have fully developed lungs because the lungs are one of the last organs in the body to be produced. The alveoli in the baby s lungs have not yet started making surfactant, which is typically produced when the baby is 34 36 weeks gestation. When the alveoli do not have surfactant, the alveoli want to naturally collapse. Surfactant helps to keep the alveoli open and create more surface area for gas exchange. If you were to look at the infant s lungs using a microscope, you can see that lungs look as though they are solid from the areas where the alveoli have collapsed, also known as atelectasis. To try to compensate for the atelectasis, the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, and some of the alveoli dilate to decrease airway resistance and increase gas exchange (Jardins 476). As the disease worsens, the walls of the alveoli become lined with a hyaline membrane that is made up of dead cells and proteins that make it nearly impossible for gas exchange to occur. It makes the lungs stiff and much harder to ventilate. With the lungs being noncompliant, the baby starts to become hypoxic. When the infant becomes hypoxic, blood is shunted away from the other organs in the body and venous return and cardiac output are decreased. Hypoxemia is common in pulmonary hypertension (PH) and may be partly related to ventilation/perfusion mismatch, low diffusion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We take them after a long day of school, a long day of work, or when we didn t get enough sleep the night before. We take naps all the time, but do we truly know how naps affect our body? Do we truly know how we benefit from naps? Sleep is a complicated process that many of us take for granted. Without sleep, we would die. Sleep has many benefits, but unfortunately some people with sleep disorders or people with night shift jobs are unable to experience the benefits of sleep. The majority of people in the world face sleep deprivation because they do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep a night. When we take naps, we are contributing to our brain forming these key memories. When conducting a study, researchers found that our memories are formed and consolidated in the REM and Stage 2 NREM categories of sleep. They discovered that REM and Stage 2 NREM support a variety of powerful sleep dependent memory processes that act to (i) enlarge the neural networks in which memories are stored, (ii) integrate these new memories with other, older memories, into rich semantic networks, and (iii) extract patterns and rules from large bodies of encoded information (Stickgold). When we enter REM sleep or Stage 2 during our naps, we undergoing these processes and consolidating memories that we will utilize in the future. Along with memory consolidation, research has also emphasized the importance of NREM sleep including stage 2 for efficient motor consolidation (Debarnot). Motor imagery goes along with our memories. Studies were conducted and they showed that daytime naps helped with not only memory consolidation, but with our motor imagery. The results proved that daytime naps helped people perform different motor skills and tasks after following their nap. When researchers compared the data with people who had not taken a nap, they saw that by not taking a nap, their ability to perform the same tasks was actually slowed down compared to those that had taken a nap (Debarnot). Their performance, which was masterful from beginning to end, featured guest artists Jay Hunsberger on the tuba and Dolly Roberts on the harp. The performance began with Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, a piece that started with a bang. The pang of a gong, and the beat of the drums, immediately captured and captivated the audience from the start. The slow build that led up to the trumpets and other brass instruments folding in, possessed an almost militaristic feel. Upon looking into the composer, it was no wonder why the triumphant sounds produced by the brass instruments came off as militaristic. Copland composed the piece during World War II. According to Elizabeth Bergman Crist, Copland: . . . committed himself to creating music at once unabashedly modern he committed himself to creating music at once unabashedly modern and identifiably American. The desire to be American was symptomatic of the period, he wrote in a later reminiscence. He recalled being anxious to write a work that would immediately be recognized as American in character and so turned to jazz as an easy way to be American in musical terms. Classical criminology was the first big step into what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm 21). The purpose of my research is to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante and how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and violence differently. To accurately understand the concepts aforementioned, it is imperative the reader look to the gutter of the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the Human imagination takes two separate images and transforms them into a single idea (McCloud 66). In his chapter blood in the gutter McCloud explains, violence often happens inside the gutter to protect reader s sensibility. However, violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything deemed perhaps too risqué also happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character s sexuality will also take place in the gutter. Readers must use their imagination to create closure from the gaps that the gutter leaves. When the gutter is taken into consideration most of what defines a hero s masculinity takes place there. The first character I want to discuss is Dr. Manhattan and how his sexuality and use of violence play into his performance of masculinity. Dr. Manhattan cannot understand the human conceptions of sexuality or the true repercussions of violence; therefore, he uses the ideology of society to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, in this experiment the phenotypes subjected to positive selection pressure for the most part were dark colored dots or dots that were better blended into the environment, more specifically the green and clear colors who most likely blended with the grasses or trees. The phenotypes that were subjected to negative selection pressure were much of the bright colored dots that stood out in the environment, more specifically the hot pink, orange, and yellow colors. • 28. Pleistoina Hypothesis Through the Pleistocene, the human race witnessed a remarkable integer of extinctions of huge earthly species. In this extinction Australia nineteen genera while the Americas lost over seventy genera. Almost all of these were animals of virtually large sizes (Donald, 1991). The North America witnessed the loss of elephants, camels, horses ground sloths, pronghorn, ovibovids, peccaries and the giant beaver. On the other hand, South America lost ground sloths, elephants, horses, and a numbers of camels, rhinoceros sized giant rodent species and glyptodonts. Australia lost herbivorous marsupials larger than modern day kangaroos The extinction of this mega fauna is largely linked to two main hypotheses. The first hypothesis is linked to the worldwide climate changes that took place during the Pleistocene resulting to environmental pressures that forced the extermination of several megafaunal species. The second hypothesis puts it forward that the worldwide spread of humanity and hunter gatherer survival practices were accountable for these deaths. Nevertheless, a close examination of these two theories discloses that neither climate changes nor human overkill was likely to be independent to blame for the Pleistocene exterminations. The two were intertwined thus a synthetic theory that comprises both theories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Selective evolution came into play favoring one species and driving the other away. Due to their bigger size the megafaunal were more affect by the competition than their smaller existing species. The above is because the large animals need more primary habitats for forage and more water to keep themselves as compared to smaller species. Due to the findings by Grayson (1991) shrinking habitats forced large animals into co habituating smaller regions, holding inadequate wherewithal to sustain them all. The outcome was the removal of some species due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Intestinal Tract Microbiome The importance of the intestinal tract microbiome in rheumatic illness was identified when the existence of specific microbes was correlated with the reactive arthritis development. Studies demonstrating that the presence of a specific resident bacterial DNA in synovial fluids of arthritic patients, supported the notion that in hereditary susceptible humans exposure to degraded products of the intestinal microbiome locally in synovium might cause inflammation. It is conceivable infections Salmonella, Shigella, Yersinia, and Campylobacter can lead to arthritis, specifically, in people who bring human leukocyte antigen B27. This led to the presumption that the intestinal microbial products may be existent in circulation as well as the synovial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear that the inflammatory reaction in rheumatoid arthritis starts considerably before the actual beginning of the disease. These investigations combined with humanized murine propose that the MHC genes play a fundamental role in the bacterial flora colonization in the gut and consequently indirectly determining the pro inflammatory conditions in the intestine. • 30. Essay about Abraham Lincoln 22 Aug. 2009 Abraham Lincoln Hero or Racist? Abraham Lincoln is arguably one of the most interesting presidents in the history of the United States. Any research done on Lincoln will show, whether you agree or disagree with his philosophies, that he was, and still is, a fascinating historical figure. There have been numerous discussions regarding Lincoln before the Civil War, during the war as Commander In Chief, or his views on slavery and racial equality; furthermore, vast debates on his views, strategies, and solutions regarding events that helped shape our nation. Abraham Lincoln is such an interesting person that discussions and debates will lead to more questions open to more discussion and debate. What was Lincoln s view on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He still did not think blacks should have the right to vote, hold political offices, or marry white people. He also still believed physical differences between the two races would prevent them from living together socially and politically (186). Lincoln was against whites benefitting from slave labor and did feel that blacks should be able to benefit from the fruits of their own labor. According to Dinesh D Souza in her article Abraham Lincoln: Tyrant, Hypocrite, or Consummate Statesman , he was not, however, an abolitionist. Abolitionists wanted an immediate end to slavery and believed the rights of slaves should not be compromised and that they had a duty to defend freedom, unreservedly, and careless of the consequences (3). What was the reason behind the Civil War? According to Carter G. Woodson and Charles H. Wesley, when the Civil War started, Lincoln, in order to stay on the good side of supporters who had voted him into office, publicly stated that he did not want to interfere with the slavery in the South ( The Negro in the Civil War 361). Contrary to claims that he did not approve of slavery, Lincoln clearly compromised the rights of slaves to be free in order to appease supporters of slavery by evading the subject of slavery in the South. D Souza also asserts that Lincoln stated in correspondence to Andrew Stephens, the former vice president of the Confederacy, that while we think it is wrong, and ought to be restricted, it was not his intention to get ... • 31. Taking a Look at the Gamble House The Industrial Revolution was the age of the machine in the late 19th century. This was a period when the middle class increased in numbers and a mass production of common goods began to engulf the marketplace to serve the greater demand. Mass production resulted in a significant reduction in quality and form but it did reduce the cost of many goods, bringing them to much of the middle class. The problem lies with houses being riddled with products. The houses were all identical and the furniture was identical to each others neighbors. The Greene brothers were some of the pioneers who disagreed with the direction of where architecture and furniture was going. The Arts and Crafts Movement was the designers of the 20th century way of revolting against the tasteless industrial revolution. To avoid this industrial style, the Greene brothers had come up with a creative solution to build a foundation for better quality goods. They hand crafted furniture, leaded stained glass, carpets, curtains, fabrics, and other household items. The Gamble House is an excellent example to mark the pinnacle of the American Arts and Crafts Style or the Craftsman style in America. The house and furnishings were built for a very wealthy couple, David and Mary Gamble of the Proctor Gamble Company entirely by Charles and Henry Greene with specific attention to detail and craftsmanship. The brothers were inspired by the concept of a total work of art, which was the primary focus during the Arts and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. 3d Printing And Its Effects Introduction 3D printing has been quoted by the Financial Times and from other sources as, Possibly being bigger than the internet (Jun 21, 2012). The earliest 3D printing technologies first became visible in the late 1980 s. There are multiple different types of 3D printing technologies, which process different materials in unique ways to create the desired object. Since the emergence of 3D printing, developments and improvements to the process and the materials has greatly expanded the various applications. 3D printing was invented as a means of speeding up the early stages of product development, using simple material, and multiple applications. Because of these advancements, like most technology, it soon made its way into the hands of the consumers. In 2007 the first system under $10,000 was made by 3D Systems. However, it wasn t until January 2009 that the first commercially available 3D printer was offered for sale. 3D Printing Technologies There are multiple different types of 3D printing technologies, which process different materials in unique ways to create the desired object. Before you read on let us first learn some basics about 3D printing, which will be explained later in greater detail. The starting point for any 3D printing process is a 3D digital model, which can be created using a variety of 3D software programs. The only limitations to 3D printing is the amount of material you have. The most common and recognized material would be plastics, Ex. PLA and ABS. When using plastics, the process is as follows: extruding the material in filament form through a heated extruder to form layers and create the predetermined shape. Because parts can be printed directly, it is possible to produce very detailed and intricate objects. As well as technology, there are multiple processes for 3D printing. The very first being Stereolithography (SL). SL is a very accurate laser based process that works with photopolymer resins (see picture one). Next is Digital Light Processing (DLP), which is similar to SL in the aspect of photopolymers. The only major difference/advantage between the two is that DLP only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
