December Soltices And The Winter Solstice And December...
There are different holidays that are celebrated worldwide. Some countries prepare, organize and
celebrate holidays, while others just observe holidays. There is a difference between celebrating and
observing. When a holiday is celebrated that day turns into an event. When a holiday is observed it is
noted as being a special or significant day. June Solstice (a.k.a. Summer Solstice) and the December
Solstice (a.k.a. Winter Solstice) are two holidays that are celebrated by some and observed by others
worldwide. How do the celebrations and observations differ and where?
A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year in June and December when the sun is
at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/solstice, n.d.).
The term solstice comes from the Latin word solstitium, meaning the Sun stands still .
(http://blog.dictionary.com/summer solstice/, n.d.). The June Solstice can happen anytime around June
20 and June 22 and is the longest day of the year in terms of daylight. The December Solstice can
happen anytime around December 20 and December 23 and is the shortest day of the year in terms of
daylight. The dates differ because the earliest sunrise happens a few days before, and the latest sunset
takes place a few days after. (https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/december solstice customs.html,
n.d.).
June Solstice in Washington, D.C. was on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 12:24 am EDT and at 4:24

Examples Of First Impression In Beowulf
It takes one tenth of a second to make a first impression. There is evolutionary basis behind this split
second decision, because it was once important to know in an instant whether or not someone is a
friend or foe. Unfortunately, research has shown that a first impression is relatively stable and unlikely
to change even with prolonged exposure to the person. Many aspects of an individual s appearance
can weigh into a first impression and perception of a person, but the first impression weighs heavily
on how we treat a person down the line, and develop both platonic and romantic relationships.
The development of creating believable draws on the description of characters deals with the idea of
drawing on the audience s Thin slicing . This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, after reading up on developmental psychology and the psychology of relationships it seems that
women have used their looks and sexuality in order to gain power and status. Queen Elizabeth I wrote,
The weight and greatness of this matter might cause in me, being a woman wanting both wit and
memory , Elizabeth was known to utilize her sexuality in order to gain political favor by toying with
other powerful figures. This was not something that she was forced into however she was using her
wit and body in a way to manipulate those around her. This use of sexuality as power over men was
seen in The Twelfth Night, he is yours, and his must needs be yours. Your servant s servant is your
servant, madam. During this scene Viola is talking to Olivia about the power she holds over Duke
Orsino simply because he is head over heels in love with her. The fact that Shakespeare was
commenting on this power that women held over men it seems only natural to infer that this was a
well known and readily utilized power of women during the time. We nowadays are so quick to judge
saying that women were powerless and only sexual objects in the literature we have read during this
semester, yet it seems that women instead used their sexuality as power over

The Relationship Between Corruption And Poor Development
Kleptocracy is defined as a state controlled to benefit an individual or small group who use their
power to gain a large fraction of society s resources to use for themselves. Kleptocracy obstruct[s]
development of countries because the money taxpayers entrust to further develop their country
through projects such as schools or infrastructure, becomes diverted to certain people for their own
personal gain. Daron Acemoglu, Thierry Verdier, and James A. Robinson, writers for the Journal of the
European Economic Association, established that kleptocracy runs rampant in many developing
countries. As a result of this corruption, countries suffer highly inefficient economic policies and
expropriated the wealth of their citizens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the FBI, 1Malaysia Development Berhad raised roughly 8 billion dollars for the
Malaysian people s use; however, high ranking Malaysian government officials received much of that
money for their own personal use. Robert B. Heuchling, a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, verifies that real estate accounts for 9 out of the 17 assets the United States seeks civil
forfeiture for. Jho Low, a Malaysian financier, is a central figure regarding Malaysia s misappropriated
funds. Heuchling confirmed that Low can be traced back to the purchase of real estate properties using
misappropriated funds, and despite never holding a formal position at 1Malaysia Development
Berhad, Low informally advised 1MDB s executive committee. Jho Low s misuse of government
funds raises the question: To what extent does kleptocracy in Malaysia affect United States real estate?
Louise Story and Stephanie Sauls, writers for The New York Times, conducted an investigation and
revealed Low involved himself in the purchase of five high end properties with the accumulative cost
of over 140 million dollars. Story and Sauls disclose that anonymous funding purchased the Time
Warner Center in Manhattan, a Los Angeles Hills mansion, and a Beverly Hills Mansion, but Story
and Sauls could trace each property back to Jho Low. Robert B. Heuchling confirms their findings in

Rhetorical Analysis Of Fitness Advertisements
The rhetorical imagery that is used to portray a man s body is spread throughout the fitness industry
and health advertisements. These images are on the cover of well known magazines such as
FITNESSRX , distribute worldwide targeting men, ages 18 30. These magazines give a visual rhetoric
as a method of persuading beauty, body image, and the pursuit of perfection . These companies target
young adults because they believe they have the money to buy their products to obtain the body they
want or the body portrayed on the cover of the magazine. The advertisement inside the FITNESSRX ,
is advertising Hydroxycut, a product by MUSCLETECH. Hydroxycut is a dietary supplement that
contains caffeine and plant extracts. The company states that it gives you extreme energy to improve
performance in the gym with their so called cutting edge formula. This advertisement states that the
product is not only for people who are overweight but for people that want the extra edge on getting
cut like a pro bodybuilder. In the corner of the ad there is an article stating that studies show in 60
days you ll lose 10.95 pounds, this message gives off the impression that if you take the pills you will
lose that much weight, they didn t mention that you also have to diet and work hard. MUSCLETECH
makes this product sound as if it s the magic pill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos is an appeal to ethics by convincing someone of their credibility and authority. The company
used ethos by having a pro bodybuilder represent their brand to make it seem that he obtained his
physique by using Hydroxycut. If they had someone with a mediocre physique it would take away
credibility of the product and not catch anyone s attention because consumers are not wanting to look
average. The fallacy surrounding the advertisement is Tu Quoque, the consumer can see that someone
else obtained the physique using the product then so can they if they buy

George Kennan s Containment Plan
George Kennan s containment plan is a radical shift in the U.S foreign policy when the Policy of the
United States towards the Soviet Union prior, and during the World War II is considered. The
containment policy marks the shift of American foreign policy towards the Soviets from alliance to
deterrence. Kennan s states in the Long Telegram, USSR still lives in antagonistic capitalist
encirclement with which in the long run there can be no permanent peaceful coexistence. (Citation
needed) only two years after the end of World War II, a war both the U.S and the Soviet Union fought
side by side for a common ambition. If the aspect of radical shift in the U.S foreign policy is seen
from a post Cold War perspective, another radical change can

Penalizing The Federal Budget Pros And Cons
The federal budget is in crisis and the national debt is growing by the second. In an effort to stabilize
the budget, I propose to cut spending in the areas of reducing troops in Afghanistan, healthcare, tax
expenditures, and social security amongst others. While the premise behind helping others in our
nation and abroad is an honorable idea, we need to find ways to do this while incentivizing people
who work hard, rather than penalizing them. According to the New York Times, troops in Afghanistan
are still heavily reliant on their American counterparts for training, technological resources and
intelligence (Mazetti Shear). While it may be necessary for American troops to be present in an effort
to gain intelligence and stabilize activity in the area, we are not there to build their nation. America
needs to reduce the number of troops in harms way and reduce the spending for another nation,
especially when our budget doesn t allow for such luxuries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The subsidies created by the government have good intentions, and some people are deserving. People
are at risk to lose their current health care coverage due to companies finding it cheaper to pay the
penalty tax or their private plans do not meet the essential health benefits. Americans are taxed more
for Medicare if they are over a certain income threshold and those without insurance who choose not
to purchase insurance will also be taxed. Short term costs will raise due to the increase in preventive
care measures. However, even when the healthcare reform is fully implemented, it is anticipated that
31 million Americans will still be without coverage

Summary Of Edgar Allan Poe s Poem The Raven
On January 1809, Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston. His father left very early in his life and his
mother died when he was 3. Poe was taken in as a foster child by Frances and John Allan. Despite the
fact that Poe academically excelled he could not pay his college loans and started gambling. John
Allan refused to pay his gambling debts and was forced to leave. After that, his relationship with John
Allan quickly fell apart.
In 1827 Poe moved to Boston and joined the army. Poe wrote many poems while he was enlisted, but
none of them became popular. He was admitted to the US Military Academy, but was forced to leave
for lack of financial support, so he moved in with his Aunt and younger cousin. In 1836 Poe married

In line 8 it says if hope has flown away which is personification because hope cannot fly. This relates
to the theme because she losing someone hope has usually gone away. The next device Poe uses is
symbolism. In lines 20 21 it says Them with a tighter clasp? Oh them I cannot save! which symbolizes
people dying in the narrator s life, and not being able to save them no matter how hard you try. The
correlates to the theme because the theme is about losing people and and your grief won t go away,
and the narrator is grieving about not being able to save them . The last piece of figurative language is
hyperbole. In lines 10 11 it reads All that we see or seem is all a dream within a dream which means
life feels like a dream, but is a hyperbole because life is not a dream and it is an exaggeration. This
supports the theme because the author has clearly lost someone making life feel like a dream, and his
grief is not going

Similarities Between India And Greece
Greece and India were more different, because Greece believed in Humanism and India believed in
spiritualism. Greece believed in what was right in front of them, things they could see rather than
believe in. India believed in something higher, something or someone who created everything that had
happened. Because their differences in beliefs, India and Greece had a different way they governed
their countries, their beliefs and religions, along with the fluidity of their social structures.
Ancient Greece and India had different views on their religions and beliefs. Greece, unlike India, did
not have a specific religion or belief, like the Indians did. Greeks and Indians both believed in Gods to
some extant, however, Greek pictured their gods as humans, and Indians pictured them as something
higher than humans. Greece was not as reliant on religion as India, as they were mostly based on
philosophy. Greece did believe in Gods, but thought of them as humans rather than anything they
couldn t see. India, unlike Greece, had very specific beliefs and had three main religions. Jainism,
Brahmins, and Hinduism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
India was spiritual and although they had a king, the kings were a monarchy and in order to be king,
one had to be the son of the previous king, much like modern day England. This related to caste
system, because whatever you had done in your past life, either good or bad, related to what the gods
decided that you are born into. If you were or did something good in your past life, there was a chance
you could become a king in your next life. Greece however governs their country thought that people
should have the power, to run on philosophy rather than belief of something higher like gods. Greece
believed more in what they could see. The Greeks government was run through the citizens, it was
voted on who would rule; it was not like India where the rulers were based on

The Pros And Cons Of Brexite From The European Union
Countries band together to promote trade, defend human rights, protect the environment and repel
threats. They sign treaties and join international groups, and each time they do, they give up a bit of
independence. That happened in a big way with the creation of the European Union, a free trade zone
and global political force forged from the fractious states of Europe. The question always was, could
this extraordinary experiment hold together? The people of the United Kingdom gave their answer in a
June referendum, shocking the world by voting to leave the bloc they d joined in 1973. The way many
Britons saw it, the EU was expensive, out of touch and a source of uncontrolled immigration. They

Fostering Diversity On School Campuses
Diversity is how we are all different in our own unique way. The concept of diversity encompasses
acceptance and respect. It is about recognizing our individual differences, and working together to
forge a better future. Colleges should aim to establish a climate of diversity and inclusion on school
campuses, so that every student, regardless of background, race, religion or language feel safe and a
sense of belonging. Colleges with a diverse student body helps improve the academic performance of

I realize that i had a lot to contribute to Queens to interest in fostering a diverse student body. My
diversity is not simply limited to my race, but rather my language, religion, origin and cultural
background. I am from a tiny west African country called The Gambia . Although English should be
the official language of The Gambia, Majority of the population cannot speak it. Our native languages
are the widely spoken languages. When I came to the US, I speak very little English, people couldn t
understand me when I speak. They would often tell me that you have a strong African accent we don t
understand anything that you saying. This makes me feel left out and lonely. The only time I feel a
sense of belonging is when I go to the park to play soccer, Normally before we play, we divide the
teams into two 4 v 4 . All of my teammates used to be Hispanics and White, I have never seen a black
person of African playing soccer at the park. Most of my teammates don t understand me when I
speak, but that doesn t stop us from winning. We won most of the games. I community to my team
mates using sign languages usually with my hands. I observe their body movements to effect my
passes. I communicate with them without even talking, and all our other differences fade away. After
going to the park for so long and meeting with different teammates every single day, I always find a
way to move past what makes us different, finding that something that makes us the same. Whether on
the soccer field, in the classroom, on campus, in dorms , dining halls or on the street. It is the only way

Analysis Of William Wordsworth s Macbeth Essay
STORY ANALYSIS WORKSHEET
The Protagonist: Romney Wordsworth
The Protagonist s Chief Want: Wordsworth chief want is to reveal to the chancellor that every human
being has purpose, worth, and a voice. The value of one s life is not simply based on his or her
conformity to the various edicts set forth by the State. In order to achieve his chief want, Romney is
willing to sacrifice his own life. At the end of the story, Romney relinquishes his life and the
chancellor escapes. After Romney s death, it seems as though the chancellor learned nothing from his
near death experience in Wordsworth room; yet, upon being pronounced obsolete , the chancellor
desperately screams in anguish that his life contains purpose and worth. Thus, Wordsworth fulfilled
his chief want through his life and death.
The Inciting Incident: The inciting incident begins when the chancellor finds Wordsworth guilty of
being an obsolete man. Wordsworth understands that merely arguing his position will yield unfruitful
results; rather, he will only convince the chancellor through his actions.
Antagonists:
Antagonists:

The Usage Of Visual Aids
Prophet Muhammad ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ was the greatest teacher to have ever lived. Today s methods of
teaching can be seen in many of the Prophet s ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ sayings and actions. One such method
was the use of repetition in order to reinforce the important details of what is being taught. Another
method that is used regularly and effectively by teachers is the use of visual aids. A third method that
we use today that is from the Prophet ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ is the usage of analogies to help the listener
understand better. The Prophet ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ was the best example to mankind and we should strive
to be like him.
Repetition is a method that we see often in many of the hadith of Prophet Muhammad ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬.
One example of his use of repetition is in the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah ‫عنه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫رضي‬‎
. He said, A
man came to the Prophet and said, O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of
my good companionship? The Prophet (‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫)صلى‬ said: Your mother. The man said, Then who?
The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, Then who? The Prophet said: Then your
mother. The man asked again, Then who? The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, 2706)
He ‫وسلم‬ ‫عليه‬ ‫هللا‬ ‫صلى‬ repeated your mother three times to show the importance of respecting her because
of how much hardship she went through for her child and didn t expect anything in return. Just as the

Claude Duckay And The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a time of rebirth in Harlem, New York. It was comprised of mostly
African Americans. During this time, it was an explosion of culture in which arts, music, and literature
came from. It was time a time where African Americans expressed their culture and talked about the
injustices that they faced. The most popular genre of this time was jazz. African Americans were
subject to racial discrimination, making it hard for them to find jobs. Race riots and lynch mobs were
also very common during this time. Festus Claudius Claude McKay was born in Clarendon Parish,
Jamaica on September 15th, 1889. At the age of seven, he moved to live with his older brother, Uriah
Theodor, who was a school teacher. During this time, he learned British literature, science, and
philosophy and at the age of ten he began writing. During his time with his brother, he met with
Walter Jekyll. Who heavily influenced his work. Many of McKay s works about his homeland were
inspired by Jekyll. At the age of seventeen, he moved to the U.S. were he mostly lived for the rest of
his life. In the U.S. he learned that racism was a social norm and segregation was a common theme in
his works. Like many writers during the Harlem Renaissance, McKay was heavily influenced by
racism. The subject of racism was the subject of one of his most famous poems, If We Must Die. If We
Must Die is a short poem, but it is full of themes and utilizes literary devices such as symbolism

Organized Colonial Resistance Between 1763-1776
Toby Goldman AP U.S History Essay 2 Organized colonial resistance began between the years 1763
1776. The policies of Britain toward their American colonies over this time period escalated tension
between the two, and finally led to the rejection of Royal power by the colonies. The British policies
caused this outcome because they threatened the colonists republican values. These were ideals
adapted from the early classical Greek and Roman republics, as well as from laws established by the
British. These core beliefs centered strongly on God given inalienable rights, liberty of the people, and
the belief that all should take part in the government. The combination of harsh British policies

Chapter 15 Phobias Analysis
Of the many disorders presented in chapter 15, I find phobias the most interesting. Phobias are more
than just a strong fear or dislike. A specific phobia is diagnosed when there is an uncontrollable,
irrational, intense desire to avoid some object or situation. There are numerous types of phobias. A few
common phobias are; agoraphobia, which is the avoidance of situations in which one will fear having
a panic attack, especially a situation in which it is difficult to get help, and from which it difficult to
escape. Social phobia, which refers to an intense fear of being watched and judged by others. It is
visible as a fear of public appearances in which embarrassment or humiliation is possible, such as
public speaking, eating, or performing.

Self Victimization In Bruno Bettelheim
Bruno Bettelheim s essay, A Victim and the liquidation of the ghetto scene in Steven Spielberg s
Schindler s List deal with the Nazi and Jew stereotypes in two different ways. Bettelheim argues that
the stereotype of a Jews self victimization leads to further victimization by the Nazis. Whilst Spielberg
s liquidation scene demonstrates that the victimization of the Jews occurs either way. Bettelheim s
take on the unpopular stereotype of the self victimization of the Jews and Spielberg s stereotypical
representation of the Nazi s nature allow for the acknowledgment of differences in perception of
prejudice and arguments on anti Semitism. The language in A Victim and the imagery in Schindler s
List demonstrate two different forms of Nazi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bettelheim describes the notion of self victimization and how it further negatively affected the Nazi s
prejudices of the Jews, wherein a Jew underestimates the Nazi. In contrast, Spielberg portrays the
victimization of the Jews as a result of the prejudices the Nazis held against them, wherein the Jew
does not risk underestimating the Nazi. In Schindler s List, some Jews are portrayed as attempting to
escape the liquidation as a result of fear, hiding in unlikely places. In contrast, the Jews described in A
Victim attempt evasion of their own fate by deceiving the SS officers telling stories as They insisted
that one SS man was like another, all equally vicious and stupid (Bettelheim 30). This underestimation
of the Nazi by the other Jews in A Victim is what Bettelheim argues against, The victim often reacts in
ways as undesirable as the action of the aggressor (Bettelheim 29). The Jews reaction due to his or her
own prejudice of the Nazi leads to his or her demise. The fear in Schindler s List overpowers the
prejudice so ploys such as in A Victim are avoided, and primal survival instincts are

Research Paper On Eggshell

Introduction and Background of the study
Eggshell, as for what we know, is the outer covering of an egg. According
to Sonenklar, the US food industry generate 150,000 tons of eggshell wastes per
year. The percentage on how the eggshells are disposed are 26.6% as fertilizer,
21.1% used for animal feeds, 26.3% being thrown in municipal dumps, and
26.0% used for other purposes. The eggshell is mostly made up of calcium
carbonate. It is the ingredient which makes the egg shells strong and hard. A
good quality eggshell will consist of an average of 2.2 grams of calcium. Also, the
membrane of it is a valuable source of protein. When separated, both products

Hypnosis As A Type Of Mind Control
Hypnosis is defined as the induction of a state of trance where the individual is susceptible to
supposedly involuntary changes in behavior and physical state by the power of suggestion. It is often
seen by the public as a trick done by performers for entertainment, and is not often looked at as a
legitimate treatment. There are multiple cases of hypnosis being used as a treatment for physical and
psychological problems. Many of these cases have had successful results. The perception of hypnosis
and its role in society are the focuses of this essay. First, I will explain how hypnosis is done. Then I
will explore its different uses in the medical world. Finally I will go over real cases where
hypnotherapy was used. Hypnosis is more than a party trick, and has many uses in our society.
Hypnosis is seen by the general public as a type of mind control. A common misconception about
hypnosis is that you can be forced to do something you would not normally do. In reality, the subject
has to allow themselves to be hypnotized or it will not work. It is vital the subject of hypnotism
approach it with an open mind. Around 90% of the human population is able to be brought into a
hypnotic state. (Brown,1986, p. 3) . Hypnosis is a characterized state which allows for higher focused
attention, heightened suggestibility and vivid fantasies.(Wagner). John Kihlstrom, the professor
department of Psychology at the University of California, has said The hypnotist does not hypnotize

Cognitive Psychology Essay
Cognitive neuroscience categorised as one of the many approaches to human cognition, focuses on the
study of both the brain and behaviour in collaboration. Evidence from such approaches can be used to
understand in depth, the mental processes forming cognition. Consequently, this contributes to our
understanding of the mind. Despite vast development in this field, various challenges are posed as no
single method can answer every question raised due to its limitations and therefore must be combined
in order to produce a more reliable understanding. Cognitive psychology was the first to make
progress in the understanding of these areas and accordingly it can be noticed that the tasks used by
cognitive neuroscientists for brain imaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brain imaging techniques used by cognitive neuroscientist s aid research into such field by analysing
the different parts of the brain that become active when a certain task is performed. The main
technique that can be discussed in the role of trying to understand the mind is Functional magnetic
resonance imaging. This technique uses an MRI machine to measure brain activity by looking at
changes in one s blood flow. Stern et al, 1996 carried out research into the parts of the brain crucial for
encoding and storage of information in the long term memory store. Using fMRI, participants were
monitored while performing a novel picture encoding task. Evidence was provided to show that the
encoding of these pictures depends on how the ventral cortical regions and the hippocampal region
interact. This highlights a link between the two which therefore creates a valid contribution to our
understanding of the mind as it identifies the parts of the brain crucial for engaging in essential mental
processes. On the other hand, although this link can be identified, the method used by cognitive
neuroscientists cannot explain exactly how the hippocampal formation is crucial in the encoding of
information in long term memory meaning that it cannot be explained as to why it is needed and what
exactly would happen to the encoding process if damage to this formation was to occur. In terms of
the technique itself, low temporal resolution and high expense can be noted as another

Manfred, Self-Obortion In The Chamois Hunter
Manfred s autonomy develops through two phases in the poem, moving from somewhat dependent to
completely independent after Astarte refuses to show him forgiveness. Phase one of Manfred s is best
described by his search for an outside relief from the guilt he bares because of Astarte. He begins by
summoning the seven spirits in the hopes that they will have some reprieve from his suffering by a
way other than death, which he describes as, oblivion, self oblivion (Act 1, 144 146). The spirits
cannot insure this to Manfred for it is a concept they themselves cannot fully comprehend: We are
immortal and do not forget (Act 1, 149). Unsatisfied with this answer Manfred tries to impart his own
relief by committing suicide (Act 1, 109). However, during this act he still seeks an escape dictated by
an outside power, such as the eagle he sees: Well thou swoop so near me I should be thy prey and
gorge thine eaglets (Act 1, 32 33). The Chamois Hunter interrupts this attempt forcing Manfred to
continue on his journey of seeking a remedy. Manfred grows stronger in his confidence of
independent autonomy after this incident. When he summons the Witch and she presents him with the
possibility of relieving his suffering if he will swear obedience to [her] will and do [her] bidding she
will provide him an escape (Act 2, 155 157). Manfred readily refuses this and and states the he will
never be the slave of those who served [him] (Act 2, 158 160). This only grows when Manfred goes

The Civil War Of Independence
1750 marked a reconstruction era for the world. Also 1750 1850 was heavily focused on people s
rights. Some of the main bills were the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, The Bill of
Rights, Haitian Republic Constitution Of 1801, and Olympe de Gouge: Declaration of the Rights of
Women. In 1776 was the year the American War of Independence, also known as the American
Revolution, started. The American War of Independence was a dispute over land between estate
owners and small farmers pushed American colonists into the interior where they fell into conflict
with Amerindian peoples. King George III moved to restain american smuggling and raising taxes.
Because of resistance, petitions, and boycotts that slowly turned violent, a war soon broke out. A new
government system was created as they fought. Woman and slaves fought in the war under false
accusations of freedom. Once the American Revolution/ the American War of Independence was
finished (1775 83), a great portion of colonists started to attach the oppression of slaves and their own
oppression by the British, and to call for slavery s abolition. In 1782 Slavery was a big deal. The
original draft of the Declaration of Independence had been approved which meant no slavery until
after the revolution in 1776. But the original draft was not approved therefore slavery was not
abolished. 1787. The U.S. Constitution helped form the U.S. government and fundamental laws. It

Protagonists looking for Happiness in Death of a...
Often having happiness is finding the key to life. Happiness is the ability to make one s life full of joy
and success. In the Death of a Salesman , The Great Gatsby , and The Devil s Advocate , the
protagonists in the movies seem to yearn for happiness and success in their lives. Although success
may be the ultimate goal to achieving happiness, it does not always lead us there. There are many
obstacles people have to overcome, and sometimes happiness is not enough for some people. It is why
I believe more people should enjoy life and live it to the fullest extent as possible. Happiness allows
people to live their lives and look at the good despite all their flaws and as they are happy they look

Yes, Gatsby experiences happiness to a certain extent, but when his life ends suddenly, I think he is
unhappy and does not have everything he wanted out of life. The American Dream meant nothing if he
was not with the love of his life. I like how Gatsby overcomes many obstacles to be successful but he
is not happy like a typical person should be. I think Gatsby seems to have regretted having his fortune
because of the obstacles he faced in being happy. The key to life in my opinion is being happy. In the
The Devil s Advocate , I think the protagonist Keanu yearns for happiness. He is an attorney seeking a
victory for a case which he knows is immorally wrong. Although this may be wrong, the protagonist
seems to seek happiness, and is destined to going in the wrong path. He is choosing the path of evil to
get what he wants, and in doing so he meets the devil who is the antagonist and the person who wants
to lead Keanu in the wrong direction. In my opinion the aforementioned devil represents immorality,
evil, money, power, success, getting what you want no matter what and happiness among others.
These are all qualities that people want and in doing so it takes time and good fortune to make it
happen. The devil intrigues many people, where he wants to influence them in making this decision to
be on his side and making all this happen in an instant. It is the path Keanu

The Great Bed Of Ware Research Paper
The Great Bed of Ware was created in 1590 by a Hertfordshire carpenter named Jonas Fosbrooke. Not
a lot information is provided on the background on the creator, but many believe that the bed was
created as a gimmick to attract customers at the inns at Ware. This is a result of a decrease in visitors
since many Catholic could not travel to the shrine at Walsingham, Norfolk. While the Great Bed of
Ware remained in Ware, it was circulated between 5 inns: The White Hart, The George, The Crown,
The Bull and the Saracen s Head before being sold in 1870 to used as a visitor s attraction at the Rye

Description And Reflection Of The Dallas Museum Of Art
Yudip MAINALI
Prof: C. Sanford
ENG 1301
!8th November, 2017
Description and Reflection of Dallas Museum The Dallas Museum is a renowned art museum
established in 1903 and is located in Dallas, Texas (Neumann et al. 19). The Dallas Museum of art is
one of the largest art museums in the United States of America containing more than 24,000
collections of art ranging from the ancient to the modern ones (MacDonald Brettell 112). There are
numerous things inside the museum, such as the pieces of art, museum visitors, and the architecture,
that relate to the understanding of the world outside the museum in terms of the day to day life and the
human society. My goal in this essay is to think outside the box and describe the observations I made
inside the museum and explain how they relate to my everyday life, the wider world, or the human
society. The painting work done by C. Bertram Hartman was the first piece of art I observed inside the
Dallas Museum. This painting, completed in 1930, consists of a campanile type tower, most likely a
representation of a historic skyscraper (Walker 73). The painting applies a fractured perspective
blended on an urban look with muted color palettes accompanied by harsh shadows (MacDonald
Brettell 117). The painting is a reflection of the dynamism and energetic expansion of the current New
York City. The geometrical arrangement of the buildings in the painting resemble the current scenes
witnessed in New York, championing a fast pace and a

Film Analysis of The Sound of Music
Conclusion and Critics Resource Introduction In the movies, there are a number of factors that will
impact the quality of the film and the story. This is because producers and directors are using different
techniques that will enhance their ability to entertain. The Sound of Music is taking numerous ideas
and is integrating them together. To fully understand what is happening, there will be an examination
of the film and various concepts. This will be accomplished by focusing on: the storytelling, acting,
cinematography, editing, sound, style / directing, impact of the film on society / vice versa, genre,
application of at least one approach and overall textual themes. Together, these elements will highlight
the effects of the film and how it has influenced others inside the industry. Summary of the Sound of
Music The Sound of Music is based off of a 1959 Broadway play that was written by Howard Lindsey
and Russell Crouse. In 1965, it was adapted to the big screen and is a classic. The movie takes place in
Austria during the rise of Adolph Hitler in the late 1930s. ( Plot, 2008) ( The Sound of Music, 2002)
(Wald, 2007) The film begins by showing Maria in an open and beautiful field. This gives her
inspiration and a sense of adventure (based upon the images that images she sees). She works at an
abbey and is continuing to face a number of difficulties. This is because Maria has the reputation for
being mischievous and not following the practices of the nuns.

erratic and only lasted 100 meters. Finally in 1916, the .303 SPG Mark VIIG tracer bullets were
invented. This version emitted a much brighter, green white trail and was a great success during
nighttime battles. One thing the British did not expect was for the trail to be flammable, this tracer

Civility In Lord Of The Flies Essay
In the Lord of the Flies Golding shows us the biggest threat to humanity is humanity itself and the
absence of civilization causes a quick descent into chaos. A group of boys stranded on a remote island
come face to face with the beast within. In the story there are characters that represent the different
egos; there s Piggy the good doer, Jack humanity if left unchecked, Ralph the good results of limited
power, Roger the corruption, and Simon the level headed. Free from the organization and rules of
society the boys plummet into barbaric savagery. On the island free from authority the boys lost their
identity and direction. Left alone, the boys were free to do as they please and ran wild. Their actions

In Golding s novel, the lack of civilization and the corruption of power results in the deterioration of
the boys morals and the loss of their integrity. Due to the lack of authority the boys seem to have no
direction and can barely survive. Although, the boys do adopt civil rules and civility among each
other, but with authority and power comes rebellion and a desire for more power. Lord of the Flies
suggests that tyranny is the antithesis of civilization and the desires of power disintegrated the unity of
the boys group and caused many unnecessary deaths. There are many examples of the corruption of
power and the downfall of humanity due to the loss of civilization and authority. An example of the
corruption of power is the difference in the way Ralph rules and the way Jack rules; As a ruler Ralph
seemed to get more mature and when Jack made his own tribe he became savage and craving more
power, this is proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Being stranded on the island left the boys
left them without direction and consequence, the result proves that a society without laws or
enforcement of those laws, will unavoidably fail. Roger s behavior emphasizes this point. Earlier on in
the book he throws rocks at the littluns but doesn t necessarily aim to hit them because he

The Changing Mattress Industry in America Changes in the global environment in conjunction with
the deepest and most prolonged economic downturn since the Great Depression have started what I
believe is a sea change in the domestic mattress industry. Factors such as declining new home sales,
tightening of consumer credit, the consumer confidence index still well below pre recessionary levels
(Wang, 2010) and unemployment hovering near 10% have all contributed to the end of conspicuous
consumption for big ticket items like mattresses and foundations ( mattresses ). Mattress

There are now processes in place that include the production of individual objectives, strategies and

both KKLC and its licensees, the Executive Vice President at KKLC has directed the sales team to

certain licensees around the country. As such, each sales team member has begun the process of
fostering a harmonious working relationship with the sales executives from their assigned licensees.
For the first time in the history of the licensee licensor relationship, there are now defined strategies
and objectives that both parties are tackling together. This is a new initiative for KKLC, and one that
is necessary to foster the creation of a synergistic approach to mutual growth. If each of the five sale
team members have eight personal objectives, strategies and action plans and each establishes eight
additional objectives and strategies with two sales managers who we are assigned to from the licensee
side, as a total company we now have approximately 120 total objectives and strategies for 2011. The
framework of management by objective is now in place. Specific goals have been determined in a
participatory manner, and the goals are reviewed monthly. This is a step in the evolution of the two

Peekay Character Analysis
Peekay s Trait Formation Life does not always take the easy path for all of us. Bryce Courtey writes
about Peekay, who is an English boy, that does not have the easiest life although it may seem like it.
Peekay goes through a lot of heartbreaks, in the form of death, but ends up coming out on top. With
Peekay traveling around and forming new relationships he grasps the traits everyone would love to
have. Peekays independence could not have come from nowhere, with him being alone most of his
life, or being with older people who already could take care of themselfs, he had to take care of
himself. Most of the time when Peekay got picked on he had to stand up for himself because no one
was there to help him out or no one care. I was a fairly quiet sort of a guy and had no trouble getting
on with things (333). In this he is saying how he always could fit in because he had to uses his
camoflage, just like in his prevouis boarding school. As he grows up Peekay learns to live life on his
on time. Peekay had a strict schedule that started at five thirty for boxing, at seven he had breakfast,
talked, and had piano lessons, at eleven he would go to Miss Bornstein s house for a game of chess,
and he would spend the rest of his day with Mrs. Boxall or Grandpa (381 384). Peekay did not have
his mom to take him anywhere due to being poor so, instead he would walk everywhere on his own
and do what he felt needed to be done, but all of this was on his own time. Peekay being very

  • 2. December Soltices And The Winter Solstice And December... There are different holidays that are celebrated worldwide. Some countries prepare, organize and celebrate holidays, while others just observe holidays. There is a difference between celebrating and observing. When a holiday is celebrated that day turns into an event. When a holiday is observed it is noted as being a special or significant day. June Solstice (a.k.a. Summer Solstice) and the December Solstice (a.k.a. Winter Solstice) are two holidays that are celebrated by some and observed by others worldwide. How do the celebrations and observations differ and where? A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year in June and December when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. (http://www.dictionary.com/browse/solstice, n.d.). The term solstice comes from the Latin word solstitium, meaning the Sun stands still . (http://blog.dictionary.com/summer solstice/, n.d.). The June Solstice can happen anytime around June 20 and June 22 and is the longest day of the year in terms of daylight. The December Solstice can happen anytime around December 20 and December 23 and is the shortest day of the year in terms of daylight. The dates differ because the earliest sunrise happens a few days before, and the latest sunset takes place a few days after. (https://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/december solstice customs.html, n.d.). June Solstice in Washington, D.C. was on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at 12:24 am EDT and at 4:24 Universal ... • 3. Examples Of First Impression In Beowulf It takes one tenth of a second to make a first impression. There is evolutionary basis behind this split second decision, because it was once important to know in an instant whether or not someone is a friend or foe. Unfortunately, research has shown that a first impression is relatively stable and unlikely to change even with prolonged exposure to the person. Many aspects of an individual s appearance can weigh into a first impression and perception of a person, but the first impression weighs heavily on how we treat a person down the line, and develop both platonic and romantic relationships. The development of creating believable draws on the description of characters deals with the idea of drawing on the audience s Thin slicing . This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, after reading up on developmental psychology and the psychology of relationships it seems that women have used their looks and sexuality in order to gain power and status. Queen Elizabeth I wrote, The weight and greatness of this matter might cause in me, being a woman wanting both wit and memory , Elizabeth was known to utilize her sexuality in order to gain political favor by toying with other powerful figures. This was not something that she was forced into however she was using her wit and body in a way to manipulate those around her. This use of sexuality as power over men was seen in The Twelfth Night, he is yours, and his must needs be yours. Your servant s servant is your servant, madam. During this scene Viola is talking to Olivia about the power she holds over Duke Orsino simply because he is head over heels in love with her. The fact that Shakespeare was commenting on this power that women held over men it seems only natural to infer that this was a well known and readily utilized power of women during the time. We nowadays are so quick to judge saying that women were powerless and only sexual objects in the literature we have read during this semester, yet it seems that women instead used their sexuality as power over ... • 4. The Relationship Between Corruption And Poor Development Kleptocracy is defined as a state controlled to benefit an individual or small group who use their power to gain a large fraction of society s resources to use for themselves. Kleptocracy obstruct[s] development of countries because the money taxpayers entrust to further develop their country through projects such as schools or infrastructure, becomes diverted to certain people for their own personal gain. Daron Acemoglu, Thierry Verdier, and James A. Robinson, writers for the Journal of the European Economic Association, established that kleptocracy runs rampant in many developing countries. As a result of this corruption, countries suffer highly inefficient economic policies and expropriated the wealth of their citizens. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the FBI, 1Malaysia Development Berhad raised roughly 8 billion dollars for the Malaysian people s use; however, high ranking Malaysian government officials received much of that money for their own personal use. Robert B. Heuchling, a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, verifies that real estate accounts for 9 out of the 17 assets the United States seeks civil forfeiture for. Jho Low, a Malaysian financier, is a central figure regarding Malaysia s misappropriated funds. Heuchling confirmed that Low can be traced back to the purchase of real estate properties using misappropriated funds, and despite never holding a formal position at 1Malaysia Development Berhad, Low informally advised 1MDB s executive committee. Jho Low s misuse of government funds raises the question: To what extent does kleptocracy in Malaysia affect United States real estate? Louise Story and Stephanie Sauls, writers for The New York Times, conducted an investigation and revealed Low involved himself in the purchase of five high end properties with the accumulative cost of over 140 million dollars. Story and Sauls disclose that anonymous funding purchased the Time Warner Center in Manhattan, a Los Angeles Hills mansion, and a Beverly Hills Mansion, but Story and Sauls could trace each property back to Jho Low. • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Of Fitness Advertisements The rhetorical imagery that is used to portray a man s body is spread throughout the fitness industry and health advertisements. These images are on the cover of well known magazines such as FITNESSRX , distribute worldwide targeting men, ages 18 30. These magazines give a visual rhetoric as a method of persuading beauty, body image, and the pursuit of perfection . These companies target young adults because they believe they have the money to buy their products to obtain the body they want or the body portrayed on the cover of the magazine. The advertisement inside the FITNESSRX , is advertising Hydroxycut, a product by MUSCLETECH. Hydroxycut is a dietary supplement that contains caffeine and plant extracts. The company states that it gives you extreme energy to improve performance in the gym with their so called cutting edge formula. This advertisement states that the product is not only for people who are overweight but for people that want the extra edge on getting cut like a pro bodybuilder. In the corner of the ad there is an article stating that studies show in 60 days you ll lose 10.95 pounds, this message gives off the impression that if you take the pills you will lose that much weight, they didn t mention that you also have to diet and work hard. • 7. Penalizing The Federal Budget Pros And Cons The federal budget is in crisis and the national debt is growing by the second. In an effort to stabilize the budget, I propose to cut spending in the areas of reducing troops in Afghanistan, healthcare, tax expenditures, and social security amongst others. While the premise behind helping others in our nation and abroad is an honorable idea, we need to find ways to do this while incentivizing people who work hard, rather than penalizing them. According to the New York Times, troops in Afghanistan are still heavily reliant on their American counterparts for training, technological resources and intelligence (Mazetti Shear). While it may be necessary for American troops to be present in an effort to gain intelligence and stabilize activity in the area, we are not there to build their nation. America needs to reduce the number of troops in harms way and reduce the spending for another nation, especially when our budget doesn t allow for such luxuries. ... Poe was taken in as a foster child by Frances and John Allan. Despite the fact that Poe academically excelled he could not pay his college loans and started gambling. John Allan refused to pay his gambling debts and was forced to leave. After that, his relationship with John Allan quickly fell apart. In 1827 Poe moved to Boston and joined the army. Poe wrote many poems while he was enlisted, but none of them became popular. This relates to the theme because she losing someone hope has usually gone away. The next device Poe uses is symbolism. In lines 20 21 it says Them with a tighter clasp? Oh them I cannot save! which symbolizes people dying in the narrator s life, and not being able to save them no matter how hard you try. The correlates to the theme because the theme is about losing people and and your grief won t go away, and the narrator is grieving about not being able to save them . The last piece of figurative language is hyperbole. In lines 10 11 it reads All that we see or seem is all a dream within a dream which means life feels like a dream, but is a hyperbole because life is not a dream and it is an exaggeration. • 9. Similarities Between India And Greece Greece and India were more different, because Greece believed in Humanism and India believed in spiritualism. Greece believed in what was right in front of them, things they could see rather than believe in. India believed in something higher, something or someone who created everything that had happened. Because their differences in beliefs, India and Greece had a different way they governed their countries, their beliefs and religions, along with the fluidity of their social structures. Ancient Greece and India had different views on their religions and beliefs. Greece, unlike India, did not have a specific religion or belief, like the Indians did. Greeks and Indians both believed in Gods to some extant, however, Greek pictured their gods as humans, and Indians pictured them as something higher than humans. Greece was not as reliant on religion as India, as they were mostly based on philosophy. Greece did believe in Gods, but thought of them as humans rather than anything they couldn t see. They sign treaties and join international groups, and each time they do, they give up a bit of independence. That happened in a big way with the creation of the European Union, a free trade zone and global political force forged from the fractious states of Europe. The question always was, could this extraordinary experiment hold together? The people of the United Kingdom gave their answer in a June referendum, shocking the world by voting to leave the bloc they d joined in 1973. Although English should be the official language of The Gambia, Majority of the population cannot speak it. Our native languages are the widely spoken languages. When I came to the US, I speak very little English, people couldn t understand me when I speak. They would often tell me that you have a strong African accent we don t understand anything that you saying. This makes me feel left out and lonely. The only time I feel a sense of belonging is when I go to the park to play soccer, Normally before we play, we divide the teams into two 4 v 4 . All of my teammates used to be Hispanics and White, I have never seen a black person of African playing soccer at the park. Most of my teammates don t understand me when I speak, but that doesn t stop us from winning. We won most of the games. I community to my team mates using sign languages usually with my hands. I observe their body movements to effect my passes. I communicate with them without even talking, and all our other differences fade away. After going to the park for so long and meeting with different teammates every single day, I always find a way to move past what makes us different, finding that something that makes us the same. • 13. Analysis Of William Wordsworth s Macbeth Essay STORY ANALYSIS WORKSHEET The Protagonist: Romney Wordsworth The Protagonist s Chief Want: Wordsworth chief want is to reveal to the chancellor that every human being has purpose, worth, and a voice. The value of one s life is not simply based on his or her conformity to the various edicts set forth by the State. In order to achieve his chief want, Romney is willing to sacrifice his own life. At the end of the story, Romney relinquishes his life and the chancellor escapes. After Romney s death, it seems as though the chancellor learned nothing from his near death experience in Wordsworth room; yet, upon being pronounced obsolete , the chancellor desperately screams in anguish that his life contains purpose and worth. Thus, Wordsworth fulfilled his chief want through his life and death. The Inciting Incident: The inciting incident begins when the chancellor finds Wordsworth guilty of being an obsolete man. Wordsworth understands that merely arguing his position will yield unfruitful results; rather, he will only convince the chancellor through his actions. Antagonists: Antagonists: 1. The State believes that individuals, not contributing to the advancement of their perfect society, have no purpose. Declaring Romney Wordsworth vocation unneeded in their advanced society, the state, thus, seeks to liquidate him in order to maintain balance and harmony. 2. In Schindler s List, some Jews are portrayed as attempting to escape the liquidation as a result of fear, hiding in unlikely places. In contrast, the Jews described in A Victim attempt evasion of their own fate by deceiving the SS officers telling stories as They insisted that one SS man was like another, all equally vicious and stupid (Bettelheim 30). This underestimation of the Nazi by the other Jews in A Victim is what Bettelheim argues against, The victim often reacts in ways as undesirable as the action of the aggressor (Bettelheim 29). There are multiple cases of hypnosis being used as a treatment for physical and psychological problems. Many of these cases have had successful results. Evidence from such approaches can be used to understand in depth, the mental processes forming cognition. Consequently, this contributes to our understanding of the mind. Despite vast development in this field, various challenges are posed as no single method can answer every question raised due to its limitations and therefore must be combined in order to produce a more reliable understanding. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brain imaging techniques used by cognitive neuroscientist s aid research into such field by analysing the different parts of the brain that become active when a certain task is performed. The main technique that can be discussed in the role of trying to understand the mind is Functional magnetic resonance imaging. This technique uses an MRI machine to measure brain activity by looking at changes in one s blood flow. Stern et al, 1996 carried out research into the parts of the brain crucial for encoding and storage of information in the long term memory store. Using fMRI, participants were monitored while performing a novel picture encoding task. Evidence was provided to show that the encoding of these pictures depends on how the ventral cortical regions and the hippocampal region interact. This highlights a link between the two which therefore creates a valid contribution to our understanding of the mind as it identifies the parts of the brain crucial for engaging in essential mental processes. On the other hand, although this link can be identified, the method used by cognitive neuroscientists cannot explain exactly how the hippocampal formation is crucial in the encoding of information in long term memory meaning that it cannot be explained as to why it is needed and what exactly would happen to the encoding process if damage to this formation was to occur. • 26. Manfred, Self-Obortion In The Chamois Hunter Manfred s autonomy develops through two phases in the poem, moving from somewhat dependent to completely independent after Astarte refuses to show him forgiveness. Phase one of Manfred s is best described by his search for an outside relief from the guilt he bares because of Astarte. He begins by summoning the seven spirits in the hopes that they will have some reprieve from his suffering by a way other than death, which he describes as, oblivion, self oblivion (Act 1, 144 146). The spirits cannot insure this to Manfred for it is a concept they themselves cannot fully comprehend: We are immortal and do not forget (Act 1, 149). Unsatisfied with this answer Manfred tries to impart his own relief by committing suicide (Act 1, 109). However, during this act he still seeks an escape dictated by an outside power, such as the eagle he sees: Well thou swoop so near me I should be thy prey and gorge thine eaglets (Act 1, 32 33). The Chamois Hunter interrupts this attempt forcing Manfred to continue on his journey of seeking a remedy. Manfred grows stronger in his confidence of independent autonomy after this incident. When he summons the Witch and she presents him with the possibility of relieving his suffering if he will swear obedience to [her] will and do [her] bidding she will provide him an escape (Act 2, 155 157). Manfred readily refuses this and and states the he will never be the slave of those who served [him] (Act 2, 158 160). This only grows when Manfred goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dallas Museum of art is one of the largest art museums in the United States of America containing more than 24,000 collections of art ranging from the ancient to the modern ones (MacDonald Brettell 112). The painting work done by C. Bertram Hartman was the first piece of art I observed inside the Dallas Museum. This painting, completed in 1930, consists of a campanile type tower, most likely a representation of a historic skyscraper (Walker 73). The painting applies a fractured perspective blended on an urban look with muted color palettes accompanied by harsh shadows (MacDonald Brettell 117).
