College Admissions Essay-My Birth And My Name
My Birth and My Name
An outstanding mission was complete on this day. Although, it did take nine months and a lot of
effort, it was still complete all thanks to my amazing mother (and partially my dad, too).
Unfortunately, their mission wasn t quite the success. They had to fertilize an egg, form a fetus, then
wait nine months until the baby comes out healthily. My parents got the first two steps done with no
problem, but only partially completed the last step. My mother held the fetus inside of her successfully
for the nine months, but when it was time for it to come out, it was nearly dead! It had its umbilical
cord wrapped around its neck, suffocating it for the whole time and no one knew anything about it.

and to do more. I do in fact have a nickname. It s one that originated from family. My nickname for

who saved the lives of many. It was just easier to say, as stated by my mother. A fun fact about this
nickname is that it s actually Mexican slang for sleep. No one outside my family is allowed to call my
by that nickname. It makes me extremely uncomfortable when they do. Others, such as friends or
educators, are welcomed to call me nearly anything. Some of my friends are calling me Mitch or an
odd sounding way to pronounce my actual name. Grandma Mitch (an inside joke), and Mom, also

Middle Passage By Charles Johnson
The book Middle Passage by Charles Johnson tells a story about the triangular slave trade which took
place early in America s history. This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave
the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many
different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices
helped create a very successful story about slavery.
This book tells the story about Rutherford Calhoun. He is a newly freed slave and finds himself in
New Orleans. This is where he meets Isadora, a sweet and loving school teacher. She soon falls in love
with him and wants to help him. She talks about marrying him and it scares him. He tells her that he
will never get married. Rutherford meets Squib at a bar and learns that he is a cook on board a slave
boat. He gets on board and they allow him to stay. The rest of the book tells the story of what it was
like on board. The boat carries 40 Allmuseri tribes people from Africa who are treated poorly. Their
culture is taken from them along with everything else. The slaves plan a revolt against the captain, and
they gain control of the boat. Bad weather, destroyed the boat and everyone is thrown into the ocean.
Rutherford and a few others are rescued by another ship. He soon find out the Isadora is on board.
Because of his long journey at sea, he is a changed man. Isadora and Rutherford get back together, and

Slavery Vs Indentured Servants Essay
Slavery and Indentured servitude were vital to the success of the British colonies in several different
ways. The difference between slaves and servants is that slaves were owed for life or until their master
decided to let them leave or they died. Indentured servants were granted freedom, safe passage to the
country and land ownership after working the length of their contract, as previously agreed upon. One
of the main reasons slaves and indentured servants were so vital to the British colonies is that they
were cheap and effective labor. They were able to work in the fields planting, fertilizing, watering and
picking the crop when it was ready to be harvested for consumption or profit. Due to the fast harvests,
the Americans were able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1705 there were not many indentures servants anymore. The British colonies started hiring slaves
due to the fact that they were owned for life and they didn t have to be let go due to their contracts
expiring. Slaves also had less rights than indentured servants due to the changes in the slave laws. The
Americans justified enslaving Africans in several ways. The Americans thought less of them; that they
weren t even human but personal property to do with as they pleased. These views all came in to
account due to their skin color being darker. The American s thought they were evil since they were so
dark complected. That they were stupid and couldn t make their own way in the world. They would
make them work long hours in horrible conditions such as out in field all day in the hot sun without
breaks. Their living conditions were horrible, they weren t allowed medical care and were not fed on a
consistent basis. They were beaten, killed and many of the women were sexually abused by their
masters. Many of the slaves died due to malnourishment and disease. The American colonists justified
their actions by viewing that they were taking care of them by providing food, shelter and a means to
live by. That without them they would still be in Africa starving, homeless and

Case Study Sasktel
Sasktel Case Study
Rising healthcare costs have imposed challenges and created opportunities in various countries,
especially in those with private or socialized healthcare systems. In Canada, for example, the federal
and provincial governments are struggling to meet their responsibility of providing necessary medical
services to the citizens. This, as a result, has created various business opportunities in the country.
In the following, based on the marketing plan developed for SaskTel s LifeStat, it was concluded that
SaskTel should first focus on the niche market in Saskatchewan, the Province where the company is
based. Due to the fact that the citizens of the Province of Saskatchewan are mostly located in rural
areas where they do not have a full access to supervision of caregiver, their health conditions might
worsen quickly, which can also be costly for the Province. In order to succeed in the fast growing
competitive medical IT market, dominated mostly by big companies, SaskTel should concentrate on
its target market that will enable the company to compete in the long run.

The Townshend Act Dbq
Arrogance and greed often blind the human eye. In the case of Britain, it blinded the king s eyes,
causing chaos within the incipient American colonies and driving the colonists into furor. Prior to that,
the colonies had enjoyed a certain level of self government ever since the Parliament passed the
salutary neglect. However, the king derailed the system of equality and made the American people pay
most of Britain s debt from the Seven Year War. Soon, the colonies revolted and the king took back his
excessive taxations such as the Stamp Act. Nonetheless, the king once again tested the patience of his
subjects and issued another act, the Townshend Act. This led to outrage among the colonists. These
events led to innocent deaths and the meeting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

attired as Mohawk Indians, dumped a number of 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbour. Because
the king renege on asserting laws that bind the colonies in whatsoever, the colonies had a legitimate
reason to revolt against Britain. ( Declaratory Act Document 7) Britain has not fulfilled their duty in

The Song Ten Minutes Ago, Is From Rodgers And Hammerstein...
The song Ten Minutes Ago is from Rodgers and Hammerstein s Cinderella. A musical adaption of the
classic fairytale by the same name, it became a musical sensation when Richard Rodgers and Oscar
Hammerstein transformed it into a live musical television broadcast in 1957. Starring Julie Andrews, it
retold the fairytale of a young girl living a miserable life under the roof of her evil stepmother and her
three equally vicious stepsisters. With the Prince s Ball nearing, the four women in her family were
planning to go, leaving Cinderella at home on the night of the ball. When all hope seemed lost,
Cinderella s Fairy Godmother appears, granting her wishes by transforming her from rags to riches,
and giving her a pair of glass slippers. Cinderella was able to go to the ball unrecognized, under the
condition to be home by midnight, when the spell wore off. At the ball, she meets the prince and there
is immediately chemistry, but she rushes to leave before the clock strikes twelve, in fear of the prince
seeing her for who she really was and being disgusted by her true self. As she escapes the castle, she
loses one of her glass shoes on the steps of the castle. Leaving it behind, she makes it home without
being seen by anyone, and resumes her life as a poor girl being abused by her family. The next day,
the prince announces a search for Cinderella, not knowing her name or remembering her face. He

Gene Doping
Gene Doping
Gene doping is a method used in which genes can be modified or expressed to provide a development
that can enhance the body and mind. This method, gene doping was introduced in the late 1970s from
several scientists after the development of recombinant of DNA. The process of gene doping can
unlock the full human potential. People can deve their muscle growth, blood production, pain
resistance, and much more using gene doping (Runkle). Allowing the method of gene doping, could
draw in new viewers for genetically modified sports and it can help the elderly with life long
problems.
The sports industry is starting to notice decline in viewers, players, and money. A 44% decrease in
participation in sports has occurred as of 2015 (Wire). Gene doping could offer a whole new division
for the sport world that could enthrall the interest of more people. An athlete s speed, endurance, and
muscle strength could increase and developed by gene doping (Steadman). Gene doping can whatan

An Analysis Of George Ritzer s Five Components Of...
McDonaldization McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book The
McDonaldization of Society (1993). Ritzer uses McDonaldization to describe a sociological
phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a
culture adopts the principles of a fast food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldization is the
process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book The McDonaldization of Society he is actually
referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word McDonaldization simply indicates
that the fast food restaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer discusses five
components of McDonaldization: efficiency, predictability, control, ... Show more content on

For example, Safeway supermarket employees use non human technology to scan food in barcodes.
Non human technology does not only controls the workers but customers as well. For instance,
customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter a Safeway
supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of these are ways to
control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the business wants them to
act. The effects of non human technology in supermarkets illustrate how they are controlling
customers wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also become inefficient when there
are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although Safeway supermarkets find it efficient
to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you have to wade through the mini departments of
the deli, the bakery, the fresh produce section, and aisle after aisle just to find what you are looking
for. Another example of irrationality is that people know fast food is not good for their health but yet
they still eat it, because it is efficient, cheap, and fast. People have taken McDonaldization to the next
level where if they cannot have their dinner made within fifteen minutes they find something else that
is quick and easy such as going to Safeway and purchasing frozen microwavable

What Is The Gradient Of A Graph
From the graph shown in Figure 6, it can be seen that the data has a linear relationship where
y=0.0715 x. The extremely high r squared value of 0.9988 for the graph shows that a linear trendline
is appropriate for the data set. The gradient of this graph can be used to calculate the constant of
magnetism (k) which then can be compared against its actual value to determine the percentage error
present in the results. As I_OUT MAX=(4Ï€^2 fkN_1 N_2 I)/RL A, the gradient of a graph where peak
output current is graphed against peak input current the gradient is equal to (4Ï€^2 fkN_1 N_2)/RL A.

John Dewey s Theory Of Evolution
Abstract
This research is on the background of John Dewey (1859 1952), his theories, his influences and the
impact that his research had on the educational systems across the United States. Functionalism,
Pragmatism and Individualism are looked at, as well as Darwin s Theory of Evolution. It also goes
into the
impact that Dewey s theories had on the educational system as it is viewed during John Dewey s
lifetime
and today.
John Dewey (1859 1952) was born in Burlington, Vermont in 1859. He graduated from the University
of
Vermont in 1879 and received his PhD from John Hopkins University in 1884. Dewey was a leading
figure
in psychology, leaning mainly toward functionalism and behaviorism. The Reflex Arc Concept in
Psychology, (1896)by John Dewey, is considered the major statement in the functionalist school of
thought. Although his main interest was educational psychology, Dewey was a voice for many liberal
causes. Today his writings are still used by the more progressive factions in the United States. Because
Dewey s writings and philosophies are so extensive, I am going to concentrate on his influence related
to
the educational system.
Dewey was partial to Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution and the writings of William James. You
can
see the influence of Darwin s philosophies in John Dewey s educational works. He leaned heavily on
the
belief that people adapt to their environments and learn to function within them. Although the term

The Importance Of Heroes In Today s Society
According to Gerard Way, ¨ Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary¨. There
can be many people who are considered heroes in today s time. Such as people who rescue people
from life threatening situations. There are true heroes today because need help from others so that is
when heroes show what they are made of. Role models could also be considered a hero to some
people but not to everyone. Heroes are definitely needed in today s society because not everyone has
what it takes to defend themselves or get themselves out of life threatening situations.
What would you do if you were in a situation where your life is in danger and there is no one there to
help you? Say you were in a burning house or had a severe injury, That s when heroes come in, Heroes
come in many different shapes and sizes such as a doctor or a firefighter. It is who you consider a hero
is because a hero is different to everyone. Some people might consider your hero to be a normal
person because they don t look at them the same as you do. Most people would consider a hero as a
person who is willing to risk their life for other persons. If someone is willing to risk their life for

European nations ruled smaller countries, called colonies. The purpose of Imperalism is to build up

Nationalism is having pride in one country or nationality. Countries were far more concerned with
their own interest than those of Europe as a whole. It also gave groups of subject people the idea of
forming independent nations. These lead European nations to complete to build the largest army and

On July 21, 1861, two armies, one confederate and the other Union, prepared for the first major land
battle of the Civil War. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as President.
The Southern states had seceded and the South had fired on and captured Fort Sumter on April 12
1861.
After the Fort Sumter battle, both the North and the South began preparing for war by raising armies.
This was done quickly and neither side spent much time training the troops. Both sides also did not
know what a long and terrible war was ahead.
The first Battle of Bull Run took place near Manassas Junction, Virginia, an important railroad
junction twenty five miles west of Washington, D.C. Bull Run ... Show more content on

General McDonnell attempted to flank the Confederates by moving north and west, and began several
attacks on the Confederates right flank and the center of the Confederate line at Henry House.
As the battle wore on, the superior numbers of the Union Army began to wear down the Confederate
lines. At a critical point, as the Confederates began to fall back, an officer pointed out a line of rebels
who were still strong. He said, look at Jackson s men standing like a stone wall . He was talking about
General T. J. Jackson s men. Jackson would from then on be known as Stonewall Jackson , one of the
most famous of all Confederate generals. This seemed to inspire the Southern troops at Henry House
who held their ground and began to beat back the Union forces.
On the west flank the Union troops who had been moving slowly were pushed back by General
Johnston s troops who arrived in the afternoon by railroad. Civilian spectators had come out from
Washington to watch the battle. They thought it would be like a sporting event. As the battle turned
against the North, they panicked and the one road back to Washington became clogged with
overturned carriages and wagons. The Union retreat had turned into panic by early evening.
In the end, the North had suffered 2,896 men killed wounded or missing; the South had lost 1,982. The
South had won the big victory in the first major

Xenotransplantation Issues
The research and practice of Xenotransplantation has been around since the early 1900s, with doctors
attempting to transplant organs from pigs, goats, lambs, or monkeys to humans (Biotech Learning
Hub, 2011). Essentially, Xenotransplantation is defined as transplanting or grafting tissues and/or
organs from one species to another species (PBS, 2000). Scientists and doctors around the world have
been researching and experimenting for years on how to successfully complete this procedure without
creating any risks for humans in the future. The main species scientists and doctors are now working
with are pigs, for they are the safest species to use in their research since they found that they possess
less risks for viruses compared to other species ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Xenotransplantation may not be the best solution to this problem, for issues with the subject
have been found, as well as ethical dilemmas that many people have noticed and should not be
ignored. Although many scientists and doctors believe Xenotransplantation can solve the organ
transplant shortage around the world, debates on the subject have risen, for others believe that
Xenotransplantation research and procedures could be a potential risk to humans as it has been to
animals. Some of these risks and failures include: failed attempts on other animal species, possible
cross infection between species, and rejection of the transplanted organ/tissue in the body (Samdani,
M.D., 2014). According to Sara Reardon, a journalist with an MS in molecular biology, pigs are our
best shot at succeeding in Xenotransplantation, for researchers have found that soon, people may
possibly be able to use brain cells, eye tissues, and more to treat diseases and illnesses

Determining The Gravitational Acceleration At The Earth s...
The gravitational acceleration depends on only the mass of the gravitating object M and the distance d
from it. Notice that the mass of the falling object m has been cancelled out.
To calculate its average speed you divide the distance travelled by the time it takes to travel that
distance. The speed is usually measured in kilometres per hours (km/h) or, in the case, metre per
second (m/s). (Science World 10, Macmillan P. Stannard and K. Williamson)
Hypothesis:
That the acceleration for a falling object towards the surface of the Earth is said to be 9.8 m/s/s. This is
justified by the research above.
Aim:
To determine the gravitational acceleration at the Earth s surface by calculating the acceleration of an
object as it is dropped from a surface towards the ground.
Variable:
Manipulated Variable: Time
Respondent Variable: Distance tape travelled
Controlled Variables:
Controlled Variable Method of Control
Height Experiment carried out at the same height
Width of ticker tape Same width of tape
Location Surface of the Earth and it fell through air
Clear Path There was nothing in the way of the object
Weight used to pull tape The weight was always the same
Procedure:
1) Cut a piece of ticker tape 1 meter long; make sure it fits your ticker timer.
2) Check that the carbon paper in the ticker timer is up the right way and that the ticker timer is in the
right settings.
3) Plug in the ticker timer and test it on a small piece of

The Annual Women And Fair Trade Festival Essay
On a crisp morning this past fall, cooperatives from around the world set up shop in an Austin, Texas,
church for the annual Women and Fair Trade Festival. While most of the vendors were veterans of
collective organizing, one group of single immigrant mothers used the festival to debut their food
cooperative, Cooperativa Posada.
Three Mexican women Silvia, Elideth, and Erika and a Guatemalan woman named Hilda spent a near
sleepless night preparing dozens of their distinct regional varieties of tamales, some wrapped in corn
husks and others in moist banana leaves. Nebat, the lone Ethiopian member of the cooperative,
prepared some luscious, dark, traditional Ethiopian coffee by roasting the beans on a metal plate over
an open flame, then grinding them by hand.
The products of their labor were not only nourishment for the festival attendees (who lined up for a
taste), but also an attempt to raise the awareness and donations needed for their cooperative to
succeed. On a broader level, the tamales and coffee represented the mothers efforts to create an
opportunity for self sufficiency, to foster collective economic empowerment, and to forge a path
forward for themselves and their families.
All the Cooperativa Posada members currently live or have lived at Posada Esperanza in Austin, a
shelter for homeless immigrant mothers and their children. The shelter houses 16 families, most of
whom are undocumented immigrants or asylum seekers from Latin America and Africa who have fled

Childhood Obesity Effects On Children
Since children are still in their developmental stages food habits formed early on will only carry over
into adulthood, and continue to progress getting worse. Childhood obesity is such a concern because
of the health problems that come along with being obese. Obese children are more likely to develop
serious health conditions, such as high blood pressure, asthma, cardiovascular disease, and type 2
diabetes ( Mikailova). There is nothing more important than staying healthy, and obviously as a
country we are doing a poor job of ensuring that children grow up healthy as well as fit. Not only can

Hate Crimes And Disability In America
Crime in America is an extremely plaguing issue. However, recently hate crimes specifically have
been on the rise. Those targeted by these awful crimes include those from specific race, sex, and
sexuality groups, as well as those with disabilities. While, all hate crimes are indeed terrible, those
targeting the disabled are especially heinous. To attack someone who can not physically or
consciously defend themselves is very cowardly. The authors of Hate Crimes and Disability in
America, Brian T. McMahon, Steven L. West, Allen N. Lewis, Amy J. Armstrong, and Joseph P.

this matter.

Sandy Hearst Argumentative Essay
After the trial and listening to the statements of the prosecutors involved, it is now up to the jury to
decide what happens in this case. Dana Ivy is said to have been drunk, which resulted in a car accident
on the morning of December 17. However, the defensive side says she was not intoxicated and that
was not the cause of this accident occurring at the intersection of Justice and Eagle street. This
accident resulted in severe injuries to Terry Vickers, the other citizen involved in this accident. Terry
Vickers wants to charge Sandy Hearst, the host of a party that occurred on the night of December 16,
for the damages. The plaintiff argues that Sandy was pushing drinks on Dana Ivy making her unable to

people at the party, making it easier for Dana to blend in. However, if Dana was acting different from
all the other guests showing signs of intoxication that is unusual for herself to do, it would be a
reliable statement. Even though alcoholic drinks were served, Sandy provided drinks for non drinkers
as well and even offered them to all her guests including Dana Ivy. Sandy Hearst may be liable for

The similarities are that both opera and oratorio have soloists, ensemble, distinguishable characters,
arias, and choirs. Most of the arias in opera are very similar in musical style, form, nature of the
musical ideas, and technique of expressing affects to the arias in oratorios. Handel s arias in operas
have strictly Da Capo structure which makes them longer because of repeating. Since many people
didn t like the idea of using of Da Capo and the fact that after the character is done singing exited the
stage, both of these things were abandoned. Today arias are in strophic form as in ballad opera. One
more big similarity between opera and oratorio is that they both have librettos and recitatives that
could be performed not only by a male, but by a female as well. Handel also preferred to write operas

Analysis Of Mcdonald s The Golden Arches
The golden arches are one of the most recognizable logos on the planet. McDonald s is one of the
biggest food companies in the world which does not seem hard to believe since they have served over
a billion people. When someone goes to McDonald s they come through the door expecting a certain
quality of service and food. McDonald s goal is to meet the guest expectations to build customer
loyalty. With over 35,000 restaurants in 118 different countries, McDonald s has created a very
detailed and thought out code of ethics so that employees represent the company in a favorable
manner.
A code of ethics is a document that expresses companies goals and expectations. Some code of ethics
can be very simple and to the point. Usually big companies have a much larger code of ethics
compared to smaller businesses, this being because bigger companies have to cover a lot more. With a
company the size of McDonalds , they must cover things like international business interactions. The
company wants all employees to represent the brand in a positive manner, while also obeying trade
laws of both of the respected countries. Some of these laws require that all transactions are not being
used for money laundering, restrict trade with certain countries, and restrict making transactions that
could help terrorist or groups that support terrorist activities. One of the biggest policies address
conflict of interest. The company is very direct with what they claim to be a conflict of interest,

Rebellion Against Slavery in Fires of Jubilee by Stephen...
Fires of Jubilee is a book that is talking about slavery and rebellion against it. The book is enjoyable
but still is very saddening because of the occurrences in the plots. Slavery is not something to be
happy about. Humans treating other humans with no mercy, and making them works with no pay for
extended hours. The killings made by the slaves are saddening, too. Mutilating the whites and leaving
their bodies lying is inhumane. It is such a shocking story. This book was meant to teach the reader on
the inhumanity of slavery. It also gives us the image of what happened during the past years when
slavery was practised. The book is significant in the sense that it gives even the current generation the

Nat thought that he should use his intelligence and the respect he was given when he was a kid to start

even became the slave preacher. This made the whites trust him. Joseph Travis saw him as the most
behaved black and was even given credit to conduct unsupervised meetings in the church (Oates,
2009); which gave Nat room to explain his desire to revolt as asked for the people who could help
him. The message about a rebellion spread to the slaves in Southampton and small revolts followed.
On August 1831 Nat led a group of armed slaves in the middle of the night and went round the homes
of the whites killing them and living the bodies behind. They did this for two days but Nat killed
nobody because of his Christian belief, but he thought that he was sent by God to free the slaves from

The Song American Pie Is A Representation Of Loss During...
The song American Pie is a representation of loss during the transition into the 1970s. It was written in
1971 by Don McLean and filled with his views on the state of society, political changes, and cultural
changes. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the lost generation
that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the country by using
music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced.
Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and also
reflects the tone of the time period. Mclean s generation was impacted greatly by classic rock and roll
artists, such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Music direction and message portrayed the prosperous
nature of the 1950s and what life was like before the 1970s. The change in music direction rooted
from a tragedy that Mclean recognized with the verse, But February made me shiver . In February 3,
1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson died in a plane crash. Theses musicians were
Mclean s heroes and rock and roll legends. McLean considered this to be the day the music died .
After their deaths, music drastically changed. New musicians and styles of music came into play.
Buddy Holly and the other musicians before the Vietnam war sang uplifting songs or songs with
religious references. The verse A long long time ago, is referring to the time period of rock and roll

The Mosaic of American Culture, It s No Melting Pot
Culture is a behavior that consists of several critical elements, such as language, religion, race and
ethnicity, clothing and politics. Culture is what one does in his/her daily life. In order to understand
others, we must first keep in mind that every culture carries its own set of values and assumptions.
Culture is an evolving, ever changing civilization, which includes several different groups people. For
immigrants, America is a land of opportunity; for others it is just the best country in the world because
of its economic success and/or its democratic political system. Americans usually value independence

The mosaic depicts a society in which various communities maintain their religious, culinary, and
cultural particularities, proud and knowledgeable about their specific traditions while recognizing that
they are integral parts of a more encompassing whole. The communities are, and see themselves as
constitutive elements of a community of communities, the society. Moreover, they have a firm
commitment to the shared framework. We came on different boats, but we now ride in the same ship,
to draw on a popular saying.
From the term Mosaic we get a picture that America has a structure of different cultures. ?The mosaic
implies a contiguity of fixed, self sufficient, utterly distinct cultures. Multiculturalism, as it has been
practiced in the United States in the past 10 years, implies the existence of a central culture, ringed by
peripheral cultures. The fallout of official multiculturalism is the establishment of one culture as the
norm and the rest as aberrations.? So I agree that the American civilization is composed of diverse
cultures.
Chicago serves as the best example for diversity. If we walk down on Devon Street, the area, which is
located between western and California serves many communities. You could see Indian, Russian,
Pakistani and Jewish shops, all side by side. When looked in closely shop by shop we see different

Yet the aggregate growth data tells us that the acceleration of economic growth began earlier, in the

Elizabethan Food
During the Elizabethan era various types of foods were eaten and extensive details were added to
these foods. Social classes also played a big role in what the rich or poor ate. Elizabethan meals were
eaten at a specific time during the day. Depending on the job, civilians ate at different a time or place.
People of this era usually ate three meals a day, which consisted of: breakfast, dinner, and supper.
Breakfast was eaten right after getting up in the morning. It was normally a small meal made up of
cold foods like leftovers, eggs, or bread and butter. But since breakfast was by definition eaten early,
those who did not rise early did not eat it. Farmers would only go to church services on Sundays
because they were usually very busy during the rest of the week, but others went daily to early
services. The Noble social class did not get up early enough to eat breakfast. Dinner was a mid day
meal that was eaten 11 am or 12 pm. Farmers would take their meal with them in a bag or have it

folks ate brown meats like: beef, venison, mutton, and pork. The poor also ate a lot more vegetables
than the rich that insisted on eating only greens that were fancily prepared. Peasants had easy access to
beef, pork, and other high end meats, but they couldn t afford to keep a lot of it for their personal
meals. They could make it just fine without fancy dishes eaten by their richer social class.

The outbreak of World War II produced a desperate need for computing capability, especially for the
military. New weapons systems were produced which needed trajectory tables and other essential data
(Hitmill).
In 1942, John P. Eckert, John W. Mauchley, and their associates at the University of Pennsylvania
decided to build a high speed electronic computer to do the job. This machine became known as
ENIAC, for Electrical Numerical Integrator And Calculator. It could multiply two numbers at the rate
of 300 products per second, by finding the value of each product from a multiplication table stored in
its memory. ENIAC was thus about 1,000 times faster than the previous generation of computers. It
used 18,000 standard vacuum tubes, occupied 1800 square feet of floor space, used about 180,000
watts of electricity, and used punch card input and output. The ENIAC was very difficult to program
because one had to essentially re wire it to perform whatever task the computer was required to do
(Bellis). It was, however, efficient in handling the particular programs for which it had been designed.
ENIAC is generally accepted as the first successful high speed electronic digital computer and was
used in many applications from 1946 to 1955.
Mathematician John von Neumann was very interested in the ENIAC. In 1945, he undertook a

Ocean Acidification Anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide have increased atmospheric CO2

water column, resulting in the depletion of dissolved oxygen in subsurface waters and sediments.
Hypoxia occurs when dissolved oxygen is less than 2 mg O2/liter (Diaz and Rosenberg 2008).
Eutrophication driven hypoxia is linked to major population centers and river deltas where agricultural

Factors Influencing The International Students
Factors influencing the international students to choose the United States as their higher study
destination
Prejin Kumar Pradeep Kumar Husson University
Abstract
The United States hosts more of the world s 4.5 million global mobile college and university students
than any other country in the world, with almost double the number hosted by the United Kingdom,
the second leading host country. However, little research has done on various components that
influenced a student to choose a country for higher education. In this investigation, I consider a survey
approach on students in selected countries about their preferred study destinations, their reasons for
studying internationally, their main sources of information on overseas study and their opinions of the

Keywords : university students, study destination, higher education International students and

He uses rhetorical analysis to appeal to the readers. The first one is pathos which is using feelings,
desires, or fears to influence readers. A large scale apprenticeships system will help the United States
deal with several chronic problems. They include disengagement among high school students;
stagnant wages among those without a bachelor s degree; declining participation among men in the
workforce; and skill shortages in a range of occupations (Lerman 857). Apprenticeships will help the
world with the problem of people not being qualified when the start their job. If people do
apprenticeships in high school and college, they will be more qualified for the job and will succeed
more than their coworkers if they do a work study program. The second one he uses is logos which is
appealing to readers common sense, beliefs, or values. Our current academic only approach to

Although, it did take nine months and a lot of effort, it was still complete all thanks to my amazing mother (and partially my dad, too). Unfortunately, their mission wasn t quite the success. They had to fertilize an egg, form a fetus, then wait nine months until the baby comes out healthily. My parents got the first two steps done with no problem, but only partially completed the last step. My mother held the fetus inside of her successfully for the nine months, but when it was time for it to come out, it was nearly dead! It had its umbilical cord wrapped around its neck, suffocating it for the whole time and no one knew anything about it. Can you believe that?! I ... I find that interesting because I never knew anything about my name until today. This information sort of makes me want to strive to do better, and to do more. I do in fact have a nickname. It s one that originated from family. My nickname for family ONLY, is Mimi. There s nothing special behind that name, it didn t come from a brave ancestor who saved the lives of many. It was just easier to say, as stated by my mother. A fun fact about this nickname is that it s actually Mexican slang for sleep. No one outside my family is allowed to call my by that nickname. It makes me extremely uncomfortable when they do. Others, such as friends or educators, are welcomed to call me nearly anything. Some of my friends are calling me Mitch or an odd sounding way to pronounce my actual name. Grandma Mitch (an inside joke), and Mom, also stuck with me for awhile. • 4. Middle Passage By Charles Johnson The book Middle Passage by Charles Johnson tells a story about the triangular slave trade which took place early in America s history. This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices helped create a very successful story about slavery. This book tells the story about Rutherford Calhoun. He is a newly freed slave and finds himself in New Orleans. This is where he meets Isadora, a sweet and loving school teacher. She soon falls in love with him and wants to help him. She talks about marrying him and it scares him. He tells her that he will never get married. Rutherford meets Squib at a bar and learns that he is a cook on board a slave boat. He gets on board and they allow him to stay. The rest of the book tells the story of what it was like on board. The boat carries 40 Allmuseri tribes people from Africa who are treated poorly. Their culture is taken from them along with everything else. The slaves plan a revolt against the captain, and they gain control of the boat. Bad weather, destroyed the boat and everyone is thrown into the ocean. The difference between slaves and servants is that slaves were owed for life or until their master decided to let them leave or they died. One of the main reasons slaves and indentured servants were so vital to the British colonies is that they were cheap and effective labor. The Americans thought less of them; that they weren t even human but personal property to do with as they pleased. These views all came in to account due to their skin color being darker. The American s thought they were evil since they were so dark complected. That they were stupid and couldn t make their own way in the world. Three Mexican women Silvia, Elideth, and Erika and a Guatemalan woman named Hilda spent a near sleepless night preparing dozens of their distinct regional varieties of tamales, some wrapped in corn husks and others in moist banana leaves. Nebat, the lone Ethiopian member of the cooperative, prepared some luscious, dark, traditional Ethiopian coffee by roasting the beans on a metal plate over an open flame, then grinding them by hand. The products of their labor were not only nourishment for the festival attendees (who lined up for a taste), but also an attempt to raise the awareness and donations needed for their cooperative to succeed. On a broader level, the tamales and coffee represented the mothers efforts to create an opportunity for self sufficiency, to foster collective economic empowerment, and to forge a path forward for themselves and their families. All the Cooperativa Posada members currently live or have lived at Posada Esperanza in Austin, a shelter for homeless immigrant mothers and their children. Most of the arias in opera are very similar in musical style, form, nature of the musical ideas, and technique of expressing affects to the arias in oratorios. Handel s arias in operas have strictly Da Capo structure which makes them longer because of repeating. Since many people didn t like the idea of using of Da Capo and the fact that after the character is done singing exited the stage, both of these things were abandoned. The message about a rebellion spread to the slaves in Southampton and small revolts followed. It was written in 1971 by Don McLean and filled with his views on the state of society, political changes, and cultural changes. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the lost generation that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the country by using music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced. Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and also reflects the tone of the time period. Mclean s generation was impacted greatly by classic rock and roll artists, such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Music direction and message portrayed the prosperous nature of the 1950s and what life was like before the 1970s. The change in music direction rooted from a tragedy that Mclean recognized with the verse, But February made me shiver . In February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. This machine became known as ENIAC, for Electrical Numerical Integrator And Calculator. It could multiply two numbers at the rate of 300 products per second, by finding the value of each product from a multiplication table stored in its memory.
