Pros Of Eugenics
As a trained nurse in the slums and tenements of New York I had been brought face to face with
conditions that made the so called sacredness of motherhood a term of unspeakable irony. Pregnant
women drunken husbands hungry children, children born to a heritage of disease, filth, crime this
was the order of that day. As one pregnancy followed another, a family sank deeper into the mire.
And always denied contraceptive knowledge by their doctors, these women were driven to other
means. On Saturday evenings, they lined up before the office of a cheap abortionist, each waiting
her turn. You would tell us nothing, they seemed to reproach me (I knew nothing to tell them), and
here we are. All too often wrecked health and death followed. Weighed... Show more content on

Birth control was seen as preventing events such as abortion and the cycle of poverty if used
responsibility. It gave power back to women. Conversely, the eugenicsmovement is tainted with the
distrust of women. A distrust that women would be unable to be responsible over their bodies and
the need for strict control over women through legislation such as forced sterilization. While
eugenicists may have supported birth control, they did not view it as an effective enough practice
to prevent the birth of unfit children into American society. Eugenics wanted a long term solution
to the problem of unfit children, not a short term

Women s Liberation Movement Essay
Women s Liberation Movement
Betty Friedan wrote that the only way for a woman, as for a man, to find herself, to know herself
as a person, is by creative work of her own. The message here is that women need more than just a
husband, children, and a home to feel fulfilled; women need independence and creative outlets,
unrestrained by the pressures of society. Throughout much of history, women have struggled with
the limited roles society imposed on them. The belief that women were intellectually inferior,
physically weaker, and overemotional has reinforced stereotypes throughout history. In the 1960s,
however, women challenged their roles as the happy little homemakers. Their story is the story of

After women got the right to vote in 1920, the most devoted members of the women s movement
focused on gaining other rights for women. Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, who had created the
National Women s Party in 1916 to work for women s suffrage, turned their efforts toward passing
the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). This amendment, which would make all forms of
discrimination based on sex illegal, did not receive significant support and never passed. Arguments
against the ERA, advocated by social reformers, such as Florence Kelley and Jane Addams, along
with administrators in the Women s Bureau of the Department of Labor, were that the ERA would,
in reality, eliminate protective legislation for women, harming working class women instead of
helping them. Another issue that the Women s RightsMovement undertook was women s
reproductive rights. In early 19th century American society, a husband could legally demand sexual
intercourse from his wife, even if she didn t consent. Because of this, the issue of birth control
began to surface among women activists. Margaret Sanger and Emma Goldman started advocating
birth control in the 1920s. The American Birth Control League, which would later become the
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, was founded in 1921. Throughout the 1900s, birth
control would remain an important issue in the Women s

Melba Pattillo s Warriors Don T Cry
In the memoir Warriors Don t Cry , its all about Melba Pattillo and her story. Melba Pattillo is a
black student who has been integrated ,along with the LR9, to little Rock High School. At this
time, this school was segregated, but black people are trying to integrate into this school.
So when the first day of school for the integration has come, there have been riots, crowds of
segregationists, just a bunch of people rioting. The first day was horrible, as soon as the LR9 came
in, it wet crazy. They had been bullied throughout the day, physically, mentally. Every way that the
whites could do, they did. It was like this for almost all the way through the year. Sometimes Melba

Pglo Transformation Lab Write Up
Introduction
The transformation is the process in which the foreign cell DNA is hosted to hereditarily modify
the cell. It is very useful tool for genetics because it enables them to introduce foreign DNA into
bacteria, and useful for gene cloning in bacteria by making them carry specific gene sequences.
The DNA fragment is the blueprint for every piece of the bacteria. The information in the DNA and
RNA can be copied and translated into proteins. Depending on roles the proteins move to various
part of the bacteria, which transport the proteins around the cells. There are many different ways in
which bacteria obtain foreign DNA, involving the procedures of transformation. In transformation,
bacteria carry their DNA from the environment through their cell wall. Frederick Griffith discovers
the process of transformation in 1928 while examining virulent bacteria that cause pneumonia in
mice. Griffith used two strains of pneumococcus bacteria: a virulent, smooth strain (S strain) and a
non virulent rough strain. When mice were injected with smooth strain it killed the mice and the
non virulent rough strain, mice were healthy and alive. The mice that are exposed to r strain cells
stayed healthy and good, and those exposed to dead smooth cells stay healthy and good when r

Lord Of The Flies Comparison Analysis
Composers such as William Golding and J.J Abrams are able to employ various themes and
ideas to convey important messages within their texts. These themes are often represented
through the clever clever and concise use of descriptive language and symbolism. Golding s
lord of the flies and Abrams Examples of this are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film
Lost where Golding and Abrams are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and
societies brittle shell which when put under pressure results in a descent into chaos and
savagery. Golding is able to encapsulate paramount themes and ideas in the text through the use
of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and symbolism. The preeminent matter in
Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing and combative aspects of human
nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the best and worst of society,
civilisation vs savagery. An example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a conch and decide
to use it to summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call the others.
Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early on the
underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use. This is an example of symbolism
used to relate society s values with the islands. Golding uses symbolism to convey his message
that society s state of governing and law is feeble and if people are put in certain

Modern-Day Mortgage Amortization Model
III. The Essentials of A Modern day Mortgage Amortization Model Contrary to popular belief
among some financial analysts, the mortgage crisis of 2008 may have occurred with or without the
existence of subprime mortgages. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 1744 at their peak rose to
just over 20% of all home mortgages originated, of which 35% defaulted. Subprime mortgage
defaults accounted for approximately 7% of mortgage originated s at their peak. The cumulative
defaults of conventional mortgages from vintage pools of 2007 were over 13%, surpassing
subprime default rates (see Figure V, Fannie Mae 2013). The credit characteristics of Fannie Mae
and Freddie Mac mortgage pools originated between the years 2001 2007 were virtually the same,

Nearly 100% of the three million mortgages originated prior to 2008 still underwater in 2013
would have been sufficiently de leveraged under PRAM (Macdonald, [2012], see Fig IV). The
data in Figure III and IV confirms, most of the anchoring principles of the 30 Year mortgage
have been lost due to its inability to reduce mortgage balances quick enough to keep up with our
modern day economy. The 30 Year mortgage model has proven to be incapable of offsetting the
historically low increase in wages to keep up with the past appreciation in housing and inflation
rates (Wolfson, [2013]) A new amortization model that is mutually beneficial to lenders, borrowers,
and bond investors in today s economy is essential (Jones, [2013]). A modern day mortgage
amortization model should offer the capability and flexibility to sustain the following factors
(Wolfson, [2013]):
It should entice borrowers to stay in their mortgages for a longer period of time (Alexander and

The Lie Factory Summary
In The Lie Factory, Jill Lepore examines the great influence that money and business have in
politics. The first major event that clearly demonstrates this occurred in the 1934 election for
governor of California. Upton Sinclair seemed to lead the race, until Campaign Inc, founded by
Clem Whitaker and Leone Baxter, was hired to take him down. Their influence of that particular
electionled to politics becoming essentially, the money making industry that it is today.
Lepore utilizes several quotes in her examination. She starts off with a kind of a remarkable event,
that leaves readers asking how it happened. After shocking or impressing the reader with the event,
she then explains it in a step by step analysis that is backed by her great use ... Show more content

This statement is very true. What it is basically saying is that Americans, not all of them, but a
lot of them, do not take the time to really think about their voting decisions. This is turn makes
Whitaker s and Baxter s job so much easier. Since Americans do not really take the time to
inform or educate themselves in the person they are voting for, their campaign ads do not have
to be all that clever or complex. This is still true today. A lot of people just vote for their party,
regardless of the candidate that is chosen to represent their party. Rarely do people take a look at
the person, rather than the party. One candidate could be more qualified to be president, but just
because they do not represent the same party as the voter, people will not vote for them. The
general public needs to educate themselves more before they vote. Too many people just go with
their first instinct, and do not think about the choice that they are about to make. Surface level
knowledge is not enough, especially in elections that could have a big impact on the country. People
just need to think and research a little bit more on their own, so they can make a more informed and
well thought out decision, without being influenced by advertisements or other

All The Worlds A Stage And I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
In the poems All the worlds a Stage by William Shakespeare, and I Know Why The Caged Bird
Sings by Maya Angelou are many similarities and differences in terms of literary elements such as
Imagery, Personification, and Theme. One important similarity between these poems is the use of
imagery. In the same way, another significant similarity is the use of personification element in
both poems. Moreover, one main differenceamong these two poems is their themes. One
important similarity between these two poems in terms of literary elements is the use of
imagery. In the poem All the Worlds a Stage , William Shakespeare uses many imagery
throughout the poem to illustrate the idea that people change and progress through the time
meaning that the life is a cycle or process. Shakespeare says, With eyes severe and beard of
formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances. (Stanza 1, line 18). Basically, this imagery
gives the reader a clear idea that throughout a lifetime people move forward. In the same way, the
poem I Know Why The Caged Bird Singsis full of imagery in almost every line. Maya Angelou
says, A free bird leaps on the back of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personification element is widely used by Maya in the poem I Know Why The Caged Birds
Sings with the purpose of explaining the lack of freedom toward black people. She says, The
free bird thinks of another breeze (Stanza 4, line 1). Angelou clearly illustrates that white people
are able to enjoy the freedom and luxury while the rights for black people are denied. Similarly,
William Shakespeare s poem has some personification as well as Angelou s poem. Shakespeare
says Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel, seeking the bubble reputation Even in the
cannon s mouth. (Stanza 1, line 13). The phrase Even in the cannon s mouth represents a clear
personification in which a men matures and is ready to face dangers without

Growing Up For My Life
Growing up for me wasn t always easy, I mean I ve never been one to complain but I can also
face the reality of knowing I ve had many struggles throughout my life. From the beginning,
when I was two years old my dad walked out on my mother, my sister, and me. When I was
younger I never knew the reason why and I thought it was normal to not have a dad since I never
really had one. In reality, my mom had to go through struggle to support my sister and I but, we
never really knew everything she did until we were old enough to realize it. When Christmas
came around every year we just figured Santa left us all these great gifts when in reality my mom
had to work hard to pay all the bills and keep us happy.
I could see you coming home after work late, you re in the kitchen trying to fix us a hot plate .
Tupac Dear Mama I was always a top priority to my mom and my happiness was what made her
happy. No matter how hard of a day she had or any other problems she would always put them to
the side to make sure we were taken care of. As I started getting a little older I used to ask myself
how my mom did it. I would think how does she wait with me in the morning for the school bus,
go to work, pick me up from daycare, help me with my homework, have dinner cooked every night,
take me to any doctor s appointment I had, take my sister to cheerleading practice and manage to
get me ready for football practice at the same time, take us home to get ready for bed just to do it

Economic Overview In Auto Industry Essay
Economic Overview of the Automotive Industry
The automotive industry is without a doubt an industry that has massive implications relating to the
United States economy as well as affecting every American household. Shifts in the supply and
demand of automobiles influence the current and future household purchases. Households must
determine what amount of their hard earned income to allocate to certain necessities. Because most
households have a budget, the amount spent on transportation it limited. While most industries
have an effect on the economy, the automotive industry has far reaching implications for most
Americans. Not only are the workers affected but the many spin off jobs created as well as the
consumers that must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Few American households live without some form of transportation. The amount of money spent
on the transportation proves whether the automobile is a necessity or a luxury. Higher priced
models sell more when the economy is stronger. When the economy is slow lower cost cars are
more popular. Transportation as a whole is a necessity. The form of the transportation is what
determines if it is a luxury. (Collier, 1981) The fluctuations in the supply and demand of
automobiles have an effect on other industries. One such industry that is affected in a measurable
way is the after market automobile parts industry. When the demand for new automobiles is high
the demand for after market parts is lower. When the demand for new automobiles is low the
demand for after market parts rises. The only explanation is uncovered when looking at individual
households. Individual households have a limited amount of money to budget for transportation. If
new cars are in high demand the income is higher for individual households. If new cars are not in
high demand individual households have less money to budget for transportation. With less money
to budget for transportation, individuals are more likely to use after market parts to make repairs
on their existing vehicle rather than purchase a new vehicle when their current vehicle needs
costly repairs. The cost to repair a vehicle is far less than the cost to purchase a new vehicle.

India s large urban population has left our systems of public transport is extremely overwhelmed,

US software giant Microsoft is to cut up to 5,000 jobs over the next 18 months including 1,400

Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat And Catchy Tunes
The impact that music has on individuals lives varies greatly from person to person and often
provides a unique lifestyle to each individual. An author by the name Oliver Sacks talks about the
unique cases that he has dealt with in the past in his writings. The Man Who Mistook his Wife for
a Hat and Brainworms, Sticky Music, and Catchy Tunes from Musicophilia are two articles written
by Oliver Sacks, which show the relationship that music has on the mindand how music can change
how a person perceives reality. The human mind is a complex machine and yet there is something
about music that transforms a person s thoughtprocess completely. On the one hand it can be seen
to aid Dr. P in his everyday life in the article The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat with He
can t do anything unless he makes it a song (Sacks 17); however, in the article Brainworms, Sticky
Music, and Catchy Tunes from Musicophilia, the music acts as an inhibiter to the patients and
would repeat themselves irresistibility in the mind (Sacks 44). In these two articles, Sacks shows
just how different music affects people. Dr. P needs music to get through daily routines, while for

brings up the idea that Dr. P thinks a lot like a computer and displayed the same indifference to the
visual world as a computer (Sacks 15). Music opens a new door to perceive the world, but it is not
the only way to perceive it. The world already has a set physical appearance, but music does not.

Throughout this whole year, there have been many physical as well as mental improvements that
have come as an effect of physical fitness. For myself, I know that mentally I m a stronger and

At the beginning of the year, I knew that I wasn t in the best shape of my life. My breathing was
heavy when I ran, and my lap times were, by far, not the greatest. I could see the room for

breathing has quieted down. I felt a calm in my mind for the first time while running. Exercising
has really helped me clear out all of my bad thoughts and I focused on the good things in my day.
By doing that, my family, and myself saw a change in my personality. A happier change.
Since I started running, and exercising in general, I have noticed that my waist has slimed down.
Maybe not so much that its noticeable, but there is a change. My actual weighed has been yo

Running was not the only working exercise I have experienced in physical education. The Harvard

stepping up on a stair, or something higher than ground level, and stepping down, and then
repeating that action for three minutes. The exercise really have us a workout and it helped shape
my quads and calves in my legs. Running up and down the stairs also helped those specific
muscles, but it was also a great way

American Beauty by Sam Mendes Essay
American Beauty by Sam Mendes
This essay has problems with formating
#65279; In American Beauty, 1999, directed by Sam Mendes, we are confronted with the
permeating images that have consumed mainstream American life. Mendes exploits these images
as constructions that we created around ourselves as a means of hiding our true selves. Mendes is
able to implicate us in the construction and make us active viewers by exploiting our voyeuristic
nature. In American Beauty Mendes uses the voyeuristic tendencies of the spectator to acknowledge
the permeating constructed images. Mendes, through the use of narration, the mise en scene and
cinematic techniques implicates the spectator in to using their voyeuristic tendencies to deconstruct

The construction of images within the narrative is important to how Mendes constructs them
through cinematic techniques.
Carolyn Burnham, real estate agent, mother and wife have been, from the very beginning is
constructed through the narrative in such a way that the spectator defines her as someone who is
consumed by the importance of projecting and maintaining the perfect image.
She is often caught, consciously making references concerning images. Referring to Jane
Burnham, are you trying to look unattractive or to her husband at a real estate gala there s a
certain image . . . and to herself, to be successful one must always put forward an image of
success. These comments are additions to what the spectator has already been subjected to when
Lester points out that it is not an accident the handles on her pruning sheer s match her gardening
clogs. Mendes through his depiction of Carolyn in earlier scenes is directing the spectator to be
appalled by Carolyn s obvious shallow and selfish ( could you make me any later? ) personality.
Yet at the same time Mendes gives the spectator reasons to appreciate
Carolyn s obsessive qualities about the projected images. Carolyn respects the dominant ideologies
about images, and is consciously aware that she is an object of the gaze. As women

William Shakespeare s Three Sets Nature And The...
The Sublime in Three Sets Nature and the Romantics are two sides of the same coin. In almost
every single poem we have read over the course of this semester we have been able to find hints
of the natural world. These instances were moments of hunger. While industrialization was tearing
landscapes up by their roots, Romantic poets were desperate to experience the euphoric sense of
sublimity they had come to associate with the highest level of consciousness. However, this sense
of sublimity is not a constant achievable state. For each poet the definition is different, and time
was altering the facets of this theory. This paper will look critically at two poets and one essayist in
an attempt to study the changing face of sublimity. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These pastoral farms, / Green to the very door; and wreaths of smoke / Sent up, in silence, from

Smoke symbolizes warmth within these homes, as well. The reference to the word pastoral is
connotative with rural countryside based imagery. There is also a sense of innocence about this
landscape. Something the speaker is looking in on with feelings of elation. Wordsworth definition
of the word sublime is one of positivity, which is shown in the following quotation. ...felt along the
heart; / And passing even into my purer mind / With tranquil restoration: feelings too / Of
unremembered pleasure: (29 32). Wordsworth is giving us what is happening internally to our
speaker. He is lulled by this picturesque countryside into complete tranquility and peace. He is even
allowed the wonderful feeling of pleasure. For Wordsworth, the sublime is synonymous with
pleasure of the purest form. Other language that supports this claim are words such as beauteous
joy and dizzy rapture to describe the experience of looking down upon Tintern Abbey s splendor.
Further within the reading we find that the sublime is often tantamount to mystery and a deep sense
of the unknown. However, this mystery to Wordsworth is not a haunting one. The following
quotation expands on this characteristic of the sublime. Of aspect more sublime; that blessed

Argumentative Essay On Parks And Rec
In 2009, NBC released a political comedy called: Parks and Rec. The Emmy nominated American
sitcom takes place in the fictional town of Pawnee. The show tells the story of Leslie Knope, a
bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation department, becoming the first female governor of Indiana.
Turning an impoverished lot into an angelic park becomes Leslie s main objective during the show.
She believes the success of the park will allow her to move up through the government. However,
Leslie encounters countless obstacles that prevent her from progressing through government and
accomplishing her agenda. Using a government setting, Parks and Rec exposed many issues in

One example occurs in season two when Leslie Knope becomes a judge for the Miss Pawnee
beauty pageant and attempts to do the impossible: have a winner based upon merit rather than
appearance. After the contestants went through, the judges congregated off to the side to select a
winner. All the judges came to a consensus, except for Leslie. Leslie believed objectifying the
contestants solely upon physical beauty demeaned the contestants and that the judges should
consider merit in deciding the winner. However, the other judges did not care about merit and
believed beauty should decide the winner. Before announcing the winner, Leslie tried to
persuade the judges to view her side, but she failed. Becoming irate, Leslie wanted her
sentiments heard, This isn t the first time that Susan s have lost to Trish s and it won t be the last.
Susan and I will continue on until the women of Pawnee are judged not by the flatness of their
tummies, but by the contents of their brains. Another example transpires in season seven during
the Pie Mary episode. During the episode, Leslie opts out of the Pie Mary, a Southern Indiana
tradition where congressional candidate s wives face off in a pie baking contest, because she
believes it is retrogressive and misogynistic. However, her decision ends up creating a controversy

Northup Vs Douglass
Before president Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery during his presidency, many African
Americans suffered under the commands of their slaveholders. In Twelve Years A Slave,
Solomon Northup discusses the reality of being captured and having his freedom taken away.
Frederick Douglass was not as fortunate as Solomon Northup, for he was born a slave. In his
narrative, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick Douglass had a multitude of
masters. With each one, he is more determined to escape and journey into the north. In both books,
the men are able to escape the wrath of slavery. However, even while under the power of their
masters, both Frederick Douglass and Solomon Northup were able to show their resistance of

Northup had an education before he became a slave and he used that to his advantage. When
Bass, a new carpenter arrives on the plantation, Northup finds that he is unlike the rest of the
white men; Bass thinks slavery is wrong. While working alone with Bass, Northup decides to
bring up the topic of where Bass is from. Learning that Bass is from Canada, Northup replies
saying he has been there himself. Bass was skeptical about Northup s knowledge of the north
because most slaves have never been there. To reinforce the fact that he knows of Canada,
Northup reveals, I have been there. I have been in Montreal and Kingston, and Queenston, and a
great many places in Canada, and I have been in York State too . . . (Northup 101). Living in the
north intrigued Bass because it meant Northup was educated, a rarity for a slave. Bass began to
question whether he really was a slave. Douglass on the other hand did not have any kind of
education. Learning how to read was a challenge, stating, I had no regular teacher. My mistress
who had kindly commenced to instruct me, had, in compliance with the advice and direction of her
husband, not only ceased to instruct, but had set her face against my being instructed by any one

The Benefits of Alternative Medicine over Conventional Medicine
I used to be like millions of Americans, thinking: I m too busy to research alternative health care. I
don t even have time to slow down enough to think about it. I know I don t eat right; but there s not
enough time to make healthy food. I m not even sure what is healthy; the experts seem to come up
with new findings that counter previous ones at least once a week. I rely on my doctor to keep
me abreast of any problems; and when one does come up, he has a quick fix for me: antibiotics,
anti depressants, tension relievers, and pills to counter the side effects (like stomach upset,
restlessness) caused by the others. I ve heard of other holistic health ... Show more content on

The most important aspect of my learning is I know that if I raise my son to eat healthy and know
how to take care of himself, he will not have to go through the same difficult learning and
unlearning process that I did. If he prevents the common ailments, as I do now, he won t rely on
those quick fixes as much (which tend to be more harmful in the long run). And most importantly,
he won t become an experimental consumer who is tried out on a variety of drugs (like anti
depressants that are so popular today), in the mean time becoming dependent on them.
You and your family also need to find out about alternatives to conventional medicine. I m not
saying to turn your back on conventional medicine all together; just don t rely on it solely. What
everyone can and should do is be able to take the best from a variety of methods, in anything, but
especially concerning health matters. The Chinese have a proverb: The methods used by one man
may be faulty, the methods used by two men will be better (Monte 29). After hearing that, who
could dispute it? Well, maybe the self interested drug companies who want to keep us dependent on
their pills so they can continue to grow.
I sympathize with everyone who leads a hectic, fast paced life. I understand why there never
seems to be enough time to do the necessary things, let alone the things on the to do someday list.

The Man Of The Mountain By Zora Neale Hurston Essay
Zora Neale Hurston s Moses Man of the Mountain is one of the most successful novels where she
expresses various characteristics of an ideal leader through her main character Moses. At the same
time, she addresses other leaders such as Aaron and Miriam and explains how they fail to contribute
as leaders because of their selfish attitudes. Hurston highlights Mosesas an old man with great
lawgiver. In her novel, Hurston turns the biblical character Moses into a spiritual African American
leader who can uses magic (hoodoo) and folklore to guide his people.
By creating a conflict among Moses, Aaron, and Miriam Zora Neale Hurston compares Moses
altruistic leadership qualities to Aaron and Miriam self centered qualities in order to
simultaneously illustrate Moses as a representative of African American leader who combines
magic and folklore to lead his people. Moses spiritual journey is an allegory of the African
American search of freedom from enslavement in the United States.
In this paper, Moses character is described as a magical (hoodoo) man who represents the African
American community. In addition, Hebrews march from Egyptian enslavement is compared to
African American enslavement in the United States. By portraying various scenes and close
character analysis Moses leadership qualities is compared to his brother Aaron and his sister

Understanding Cashflow Essay
Understanding Cashflow
Within an organisation, money comes in and flows out. This is called the organisation s cashflow.
From time to time, business managers may pose questions such as:
* Can we afford to buy x?
* Are we going to be able to pay that bill?
* Wouldn t it be nice if we could develop y?
To answer such questions, they will often have to carry out some form of financial planning, and
often to seek additional finance from outside the company. The key issues are:
* What is the finance for?
* How long will it be needed?
* Is it affordable, i.e. can the firm keep up with the repayments?
Common methods of finance

Businesses often depend on customers paying bills promptly. Given that customers like Ron Rust
may delay payment as long as possible, an overdraft can be a useful form of short term business
finance.
Factoring
Trade debts mean that money can often be tied up for as much as sic months. For a business
requiring cash quickly this can be a real problem. A factoring company may offer immediate
payment of part of the amount owed to a business normally around 80% with the balance being
paid when the debt is settled. This provided an immediate way for a business to improve its
cashflow. In return, the factoring company will charge a fee which includes interestand
administration charges.
Leasing and hire purchase
There are many different ways for customers to receive goods and make payments over time.
Goods on hire purchase remain the property of the finance company until the customer has made
all the payments. Other credit purchasing schemes enable the goods to belong to the customer
from the first payment. With leasing, the lessee uses the asset while making regular payments to
the lessee, who owns it. An operating lease is for a small amount, and a capital or finance lease is
for a large item over an extended period.
Loans
Most businesses need to borrow in order to trade successfully. The charge for

Examples Of Religion In Lord Of The Flies
Religion in Chaotic Societies Such as Brave New World and Lord of the Flies Differences
dominate the varying cultures and societies of the world. Differences appear everywhere, from
cultural norms to forms of government. Most, if not all civilizations rely on some form of
religion. Whether a society relies on a singular extraterrestrial force as a god, or many gods who
exist as one, each culture relies on religionto calm the chaotic nature of the world. The 20th
century novels, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and Brave New Worldby Aldous Huxley,
both use the of Christ like archetypes, upon which societies depend when they fall into chaos, in
an attempt to calm the disarray of everyday reality. Human nature naturally gravitates towards a
religious figure when reality becomes overwhelming. Selflessness and sympathy build the
archetype of a Christ like figure. Christ like figures work to aid the society, demonstrating
selflessness and generosity. In Lord of the Flies, Simon remains selfless in the face of adversity.
While the other boys obsess and fight over hunting and fire, Simon helps take care of the littluns.
To the littluns, Simon acts as a Christ like figure: Simon found for them the fruit they could not
reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless,
outstretched hands (Golding 56). Golding shows how Christ like figures demonstrate selflessness
to others, providing the best for other people rather than for

Purchasing Drones The decision of purchasing drones for the purpose of local law enforcement
to use could be a negative and a positive. There are several states in the U.S. who do allow the
purchase and the usage of drones by local law enforcement. Some of those states consist of Texas

one state who allows the purchase and usage of drones: Florida. There are several pros and cons
on this issue. Some of the pros and cons revolve around money, time, and the issue of individual
rights. A drone is an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers.
(Merriam Webster). It is also beyond [the] line of sight: the GPS of a U.S. spy drone.
(Dictionary.com). The issue that will be continuously brought up will be the right of privacy. Will
the usage of drones violate the Fourth Amendment? It can be a violation if abused. The key word in
the definition of drones IS spy. Is it spying if you are looking at something in plain view, but the
device is out of plain sight? The Fourth Amendment states that every individual has the right to not
have unreasonable searches and not without probable cause. However, there are exceptions to the
Fourth Amendment which includes the Plain View Doctrine. The Plain View Doctrine states that if

Overview Of Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial Personality Disorder is a mental illness in which an individual s thought process and
behavior is dysfunctional and destructive. Many of the individuals show patterns of manipulation,
lack of empathy, and participate in criminal and violent behavior, which result in criminal

Chronic Conditions That Can Not Be Cured
LTC s are chronic conditions that cannot be cured but can be maintained and symptomatically
controlled with medication and therapies (World Health Organisation [WHO], 2015; Department of
Health [DOH], 2005). The management of LTC s has been implemented due to the increase in the
ageing population which in turn produces an increase in the incidence of LTC s such as diabetes,
Parkinson Disease [PD], pernicious anaemia, chronicobstructive pulmonary disease, neurological
and heart conditions. Due to word restriction the author will discuss diabetes and Parkinson s
disease.
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person s blood sugar to become too high or too low
as the pancreas no longer produces the right amount, or any, insulin (NHS Choices, 2014). Insulin
is a hormone which is released from the pancreas, working by moving sugar from the blood into
other body tissues enabling the liver to stop producing excessive glucose. There are two main
types of diabetes, type1 and type 2. Once known as childhood diabetes or insulin dependent
diabetes, type 1 is much rarer than type 2 diabetes which occurs when the body becomes resistant
to the effects of insulin (Mayo Clinic, 2016; MedlinePlus, 2016). Symptoms of diabetes include
excessive thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, long healing wounds and unexplained weight loss
which occurs due to glucose staying in the blood (Diabetes UK, 2016). If a patient develops

The Last Supper By Leonardo Da Vinci Essay
Bad Company
When Leonardo da Vinci painted his famous work, The Last Supper , he prepared himself by
making a thorough study of the lives of each of the twelve Apostles as well as the Lord. Then he
set out to find real faces to paint as the faces of the thirteen men represented in the painting.
As the story goes, he thought finding a face to paint as the face of the Lord would be the most
difficult. His goal was to find a man in whose face; he could see love, compassion and kindness.
He wanted to see the glow of purity in his countenance and a gleam akin to divinity in his eyes.
Da Vinci searched for a number of months before he found a man whose countenance portrayed the
characteristics that he needed to paint the face of Jesus Christ. The man gave his permission and
his face was painted as the face of the Lord.
During the following three years, Leonardo da Vincifound other men, whose faces he painted as
the faces of Peter, Andrew, James, John, Phillip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James,
Thaddaeus and Simon.
Then he began searching for a face to paint as the face of Judas. He would need to find a man in
whose face he could see dissipation and despair. There would be no gleam in his eyes. Finally,
he learned about a fellow who was being held down at the jail for thievery and drunkenness. The
artist went to the jail and as soon as he saw the man, he knew the face that he had been looking

Free Will In Sophocles Antigone
Sophocles Antigone is based on the idea of fate and the conflict if free will exists or not. While
Sophocles agrees that free will exists to a certain degree, morality plays a role in determining how
much fate can be changed. Unlike modern day American culture, which emphasizes individual
freedom of choices, the Ancient Greeks thought that life was predetermined by the Gods will and
laws. In Antigone, Sophoclesuses the theme of a tragedy, to emphasize the limitations of human
knowledge and wisdom, and the cultural conflict of state laws and religion to show how much
religion played a part in everyday life and culture. In Ancient Greece, suicide was considered a
controversial issue as it represented a problem in free will. Sophocles represented... Show more

According to Beauvoir, while the moralists are enamored with eternal principles, (1), and believe
in God and his sovereign, the realists who boasts in vain about his effective methods and the
useful results achieved (1) are practicalists. While moralists are preoccupied about how their
actions influence the future and afterlife, the realists are concerned with the present. The
conflict between moralists and realists, as a result, has always existed with neither side being
able to convince the other of the validity of its values each side is imprisoned its own value
system in the name of which it rejects the values of its adversary (1). In modern day society, the
perception of morality has shifted into what we known consider ethics. Unlike morality, which
is defined by God and the Bible, however, ethics is defined by people s perceptions of values and
principles. Society, as a result, evolved from one in which values and principles are defined by a
preset based on a supernatural being God and the Bible to a rational one in which people can
influence and control. Because people define what good or bad, man is capable of influencing
how their actions play a role to their future, or fate, emphasizing the idea of free will. Thus, reality
and ethics are subject to human decisions and is always dynamic;

are judged under a certain narrative that reduces the homeless individual into their current state of
being (Lancione, 2013). To understand homelessnessone should not only look at the current
condition of the individuals but also look at the discourse of factors and events that led homeless
individuals into their current states. Homeless youth although hard to spot are still very much a
current problem in our society. Many youth fall in between the cracks of the system and are
forced to find different ways to produce some sort of income. There is a strong stigma involved
when it comes to homeless youth and many face dangers and a great amount of stress while living
on the streets (Kidd, 2007). Many of the homeless youth find it difficult to survive and often don t
have shelter and are always hungry (Kidd, 2007). To support themselves, many homeless youth find
themselves engaging in prostitution as a means of income and survival (Kidd, 2007). It is not
enough to look at the current state of homeless youth but also important to understand the different
factors that lead them to making certain decisions; it is no ones first choice to participate in illegal
work. In my paper I argue that, the

Call to Ministry
What is a call to the ministry ? by Ken Temple Regional Representative Southeast USA Frontiers
(770) 277 6399 ( office ) kentemple@juno.com What is a call to ministry ? Is it more subjective or
objective? It is just for preachers and pastors and missionaries, or is it also for the Christian
businessman and plumber, the housewife and mother? Is it only one s vocation, or does it also
refer to salvation and relationship with Christ ? Os Guinness, in his book, The Call, writes:
Calling is the truth that God calls us to Himself so decisively that everything we are, everything
we do, and everything we have is invested with a special devotion, dynamism, and direction lived

God wants more Christians to stay in the business world, the arts, entertainment, politics,
journalism, etc. and bring their Christian convictions and world view to bear on how they
conduct their business, write songs or films, or paint pictures. One of the reasons for the recent
decline of Christian impact on our culture is because too many Christians have left the fields of
science, math, film, art, journalism, and especially politics, and hence there was a vacuum left
that the humanist, skeptic, atheist, and agnostic filled. So, now when in recent years Christians
have tried to boldly make an impact on culture in these various fields, especially politics, we are
finding the whole world view of our culture has changed and the world view of absolutes, right
and wrong, the Ten Commandments, prayer, belief in God, convictions about abortion and
homosexuality as sin are scoffed at, laughed at, labeled as intolerant, and even pushed out by
media blitz or ignoring the facts or not giving Christians opportunity to voice their opinion. When
considering a call to ministry, let me encourage you to not dichotomize too sharply between the
secular and sacred. God wants to use all kinds of vocations to both disciple the nations ( Matt.
28:19 ) and be salt and light in the culture ( Matthew 5:13 16) and have dominion and manage the
earth (Genesis 1:26 28) Inner Calling and External Confirmation: Subjective and Objective

Negative Effects Of Technology
The effects of technology usage have long been a topic of debate, with the negative
consequences often being brought up. Authors such as Robert Samuels, Alison Gopnik, Nicholas
Carr, Gary Small and Vorgan Gigi have all addressed this topic in their own articles. In Samuels
Breaking Down Borders: How Technology Transforms the Private and Public Realms, he
discusses the creation of private bubbles in public spaces due to technology, and the consequent
alienation of others. Diagnosing the Digital Revolution by Gopnik argues that the habits that tech
users have today have always existed, while Carr s Is Google Making Us Stupid? states that
technology is actively changing the way humans think. Meet Your iBrain by Gigi and Small covers
how technology affects brains and alters them. This paper will use the articles and an interview
with a peer to analyze the perceived negative effects of using technology, particularly worse
memory, shorter attention span, exacerbation of bad habits, and shifting emotions.
The most noticeable effect of technology usage is a shortage of memory; not as in computer
memory, but human memory. With Google constantly at people s fingertips, it s easy to look up
information rather than memorize it. Carr cites in his article that tech users cease to exercise their
memory and become forgetful, instead of relying on the internet to quickly search for facts without
having to commit them to memory (7). He also states that humans are losing the capacity to deep
read and cannot unearth meaning in articles the way that they used to in the time of the printing
press and less evolved pieces of technology (3). In Gigi and Small s article, they mention that the
prefrontal cortex, or the area in the brain that handles short term memory, could be altered by
technology usage (4). However, Kristina Konidaris, a student who uses multiple technological
devices daily, states that the technology does not have a profound impact on her memory. Instead,
she states that her memory is more affected by her interest in the subject and her feelings rather
than the technology used, although sometimes it may be easier to remember things she has
handwritten rather than typed. Also included in Gigi and Small s

Killing The Albatross
At the begging of the poem the ancient Mariner and shipmates believed the Albatross to be
heavenly. At length did cross an Albatross,
Through the fog it came;
As if it had been a Christian soul,
We hailed it in God s name. (Page 200)
They associated the wind picking up with the Albatross arrival and though that is was god that
made his presents to help them in the form of the Albatross. Yet, when the fog creeped in the
ancient Mariner assumed it was the Albatross creating the bad luck and that he was not a creature
sent by God. The ancient Mariner convicted his fellow shipmates that the Albatross must die
because if the weather did not change to their favor they would be doomed to die at sea.

Human being have the tendency to rationalize their and other people s actions with the outcome.
For instance, the ancient Mariner could not control the weather so he associated the Albatross as
a bad omen and to regain control he had to kill it. The ancient Mariner could not understand the
weather but he believed if he could control the fate of the Albatross he then had control of the
weather. Even though humans can t control nature he wanted to be in control of his own fate (that
is human nature). When the weather becomes worse he interprets it as his fault because once
again he must be in control of his outcome. If you look closely to the begging and end of the
poem it hints that for him to be the sole survivor there must be a reason. At the begging of the

Analysis Of Ezinma In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
The bond of family is something to be cherished. It is no longer there simply for reasons of
survival, families exist because it gives us humans identity in both a physical and figurative way.
Our name is what we gain from our family. We also inherit the expectations of the family. But,
over time we become our identity and that is the figurative. I could give you a list of names that
you have heard of and that identity is connected to past events or the personality of the person, but
to you now, the name is a personification of that personality or the way you felt in past events. This
is the reality of names, and the way we perceive each other. Thusly, Ezinma form Chinua Achebes,
Things Fall Apart, represents more than just her name. She represents, resilience, strength, relief,
and comradery.
The mother of Ezinma, her name was Ekwefi, had been visited by monumental tragedy. Ekwefi
could not bear a child, until Ezinma. Ekwefi bore a total of ten children with nine dying in
stages of infancy. It is quite evident that Ekwefi had become a very bitter woman, the naming of
her children were the biggest hint. Their names began receiving more sinister meanings. Ezinma
was the first to survive into her childhood. She survived through spells of illness due to her being
deemed as a ogbanje, which is a type of spirit that inhabits babies and dies to torture the mother.
However, Ezinma seemed determined to live and was able to be cleared of her ogbanje title.
Through this, her and her mother developed an interesting relationship. Ezinma and Ekwefi were
more than mother and daughter, There was something in it like the companionship of equals... (76
Achebe). This is a special relationship that is very uncommon and creates a unique personality for
Ezinma. Moreover, we see this in modern times as well, as Kwame Anthony Appiahdescribes in his
novel, Cosmopolitanism, Sometimes, familiar values are intertwined with unfamiliar customs and
arrangements. People everywhere have ideas about your responsibility to your children (47
Appiah). As Appiah states, that the sense of responsibility to your children differ among cultures
and life styles. For instance, Appiah grew up in two different societies and had two different styles

Dennet Quining Qualia Summary
Course Reading for Mental Qualities
1)Dennet Quining Qualia
Thesis (1): Conscious experience does not have any special properties, therefore qualia are non
existent.
Central Argument (3 5): The brainstorm machine is part of the intuition pump that has the
possibility to confirm two individuals have different color qualia. The issue here is that one could
never know the correct orientation of the brainstorm machine because there is never an
intersubjective comparison of qualia, even with the help of technology. Additionally, the intuition
pump of the neurosurgical prank and alternative neurosurgery describes an evil neuroscientist did
something horribly wrong in one s mind where his or her color qualia are inverted. What the evil
neuroscientist might have done is maybe inverted the optic nerve or the certain memory anchored
dispositions to react to qualia. Concluding that these two procedures do not ... Show more content

4)Robinson Phenomenal Qualities
The phenomenal concept strategy does not explain where phenomenology comes from.
He assumes that it will explain the metaphysical explanatory gap where the phenomenal concept
strategy solves Kripke s explanatory gap that there is some identity statement when one claims
about the brain state that is equivalent to the phenomenal state. Moreover, Leibniz s law state that
if there are two objects that are identical, they must share all and only the same properties. This
can be possible, but it needs an explanation as to why certain neural state have qualities and certain
ones don t. Or it can be primitive where direct realist, dualist, and broth identity theory says that it is
a mystery.
The phenomenal concept strategy would block Leibniz s law because it is an acquittance concept
that somehow knows the concept.

Juxtaposition Of Mevlut
Mevlut is exhibited as a sort of parР°gon of averageness. He gets an essential training, going to
secondary school before dropping out to work close to his dad. Like the greater part of the
Turkish populace, he is a Muslim, however, he mirrors his country s legitimate secularism by not
being especially ardent or perceptive. He is straightforward, tireless and not too bad. He has
dubious dreams that one day he may end up plainly rich. On a few events, he is depicted as honest .
Throughout the novel, which traverses over four decades starting in the late 1960s, Mevlut

occupations. He offers yoghurt, rice dishes and frozen yoghurt in the city; he opРµns a brief shop

Late one night when he is out selling bozР°, Mevlut is drawn nearer by two men, a father and
child, who scare him before ransacking him at knifepoint. The juxtaposition of these opening
scenes builds up the novel s laced subjects and the parameters of Mevlut s emblematic relationship
to his city and by expansion his country. They are two pivotal turning points of dissatisfaction, one
in which his purity brings about him being tricked, and the other in which his felt liking with the
boulevards of Istanbul encounters the city s dim side. What is huge about these two minutes is that
neither outcomes in any real emergency of certainty or huge modification in Mevlut s character,
despite the fact that he quickly considers giving up bozР° offering in the wake of his robbing. He
does the respectable thing in the wake of eloping with Rayiha and proceeds with the marriage. All
the more imperatively, the marriage succeeds. They come to love each other. A standout amongst
the most touching angles of A Strangeness in My Mind is its delineation of the commonly steady
relationship that creates between them. He is somebody who tolerates and continues; he makes the

History of Thorium
History of thorium
Thorium is naturally a radioactive chemical element, which was discovered in 1828 from the
Norwegian mineralogist Morten Thrane Esmark, and named Thor from Jons Jakob Bezelius, which
means the Norse God of Thunder. Thorium is the most abundant metal found in earth crust and had
been scattered million years ago in the galaxy, with the explosion of meteors known as supernova.
Thorium generates radioactive gas products, as radon 20 decay. Other decay by products of thorium
are radium and actinium. But, thorium is found in nature as thorium 232, which has a half life and
endures under alpha decay. Thorium decay produces a significant amount of internal heat energy.
Thorium is found in the same amount as lead, and four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the disadvantages of using thorium fuel is the production of 233Pa, an halfway product
which produces 233U. 233 Pa relatively has a half life of 27 days and produces a great amount of
233U. And a second disadvantage of using thorium fuel is the contamination of 232U, due to the
high energy of gamma radiation that is emitted from one of its decay products. Uranium 235
reactors are known as nuclear reactors, which are capable to produce a significant amount of
nuclear weapons. With the uranium 235 reactors people were able to make nuclear weapons,
presenting a non safety and non stability environment. Also the production of uranium 235 presents
the wastage of its radioactive byproducts in the environment, which requires a hundred years to
decay.
What is the status of constructing a thorium reactor to produce power? Thorium reactors based
on their safety, cleanness and the ability to produce a large amount of energy has triggered the
idea of constructing thorium reactor as an easy way to produce any source of power. There are
several thorium reactors that are used to produce power : Heavy Water Reactor( PHWRs) this is a
reactor based on thorium fuel due to the combination of neutrons that can be absorbed to produce
233U, an average of neutron energy produced and flexible in recycling fuel ability. High

Homelessness In The Grapes Of Wrath
The novel Grapes of Wrath contained an abundance of different common themes, such as loss,
transience, and religion. One theme that I noted to be consistent was that of helplessness. The
Joads, as well as many other characters for that matter, seemed to have little control over most of
the events that occurred in the book. Helplessness seems to be common, not only in Steinbeck s
book, but in life too. Most seem to have little to no control over what happens in their life, and the
food industry isn t exempt from this trait either. Helplessness lingered in every dark corner for the
Joads. It seemed that they couldn t control much of what was happening to them, but instead had to
just go with it and make the best out of it. The beginning

Live By Night Analysis
The magazine Women In Crime clearly fits into the crime fiction genre of the 1950s. It does this
through women being represented as sexually attractive and in power over men, because at the
time women being strong and deceitful was popular among Crime fiction writers. It shows the
sexual attraction through the low cut dress, showing lots of skin, the stocking and the dark hair. All
of these aspects of a womanat that particular time were seen as very attractive and desirable. The
cover shows the lady in power through a male hand showing her jewelry but she looks unimpressed
as if manipulating the man and acting angry to get what she wants. Women In Crime demonstrates
the representation of women in crime fictionstories during the 1950s.

Live By Night fits into the Crime fiction genre through conventions such as the dull colors in the
cover, suggesting a dark and brutal story about violence and crime, also the dark sleuth taking up
the cover. The colors used in the cover consist of black and white being used as the background
and the detective and the red being used for text. These colors are generally the only three used
in crime fiction covers, as they support the dark and suspicious feel of the crime fiction stories.
The title of the book also fits into the colors used in the cover, as the book is called Live By
Night, which implies dark environments. The man in the front of the cover is representing the
detective of modern day crime fiction stories. The audience can expect the detective to be a man
who goes out at night looking for clues and solving crime as he is in the dark in the cover and it
fits in with the title. Mis en scene has a mysterious and edgy feel to it, the cover looks like a
place where a crime could potentially take place. Live By Night fits into the conventions of the

the program for teachers with 0 3 years experience. Related studies reviewed by the Council
reinforced the need for a structured teacher support. There was the consensus that the beginning
teacher should not develop a curve of disenchantment especially in their first three years of
teaching. In an interview of 20 teachers in a small public high school in Cavite City, the researcher
found out that none of them have a formal induction when they first started to work in the school.
They all found out their rights, responsibilities, expected tasks, the history of the organization and
many more by hearsays or stories of their fellow employees which sometimes brought them
confusion, anxiety stress, and worst burn out. The situation might have caused teachers to think of
quitting their jobs and find other careers somewhere else. The major thrust of this study was to
identify the relationship of the induction program to the performance and morale of teachers in
DepEd, Cavite City. The findings of this study will

  • 2. Pros Of Eugenics As a trained nurse in the slums and tenements of New York I had been brought face to face with conditions that made the so called sacredness of motherhood a term of unspeakable irony. Pregnant women drunken husbands hungry children, children born to a heritage of disease, filth, crime this was the order of that day. As one pregnancy followed another, a family sank deeper into the mire. And always denied contraceptive knowledge by their doctors, these women were driven to other means. On Saturday evenings, they lined up before the office of a cheap abortionist, each waiting her turn. You would tell us nothing, they seemed to reproach me (I knew nothing to tell them), and here we are. All too often wrecked health and death followed. Weighed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Birth control was seen as preventing events such as abortion and the cycle of poverty if used responsibility. It gave power back to women. Conversely, the eugenicsmovement is tainted with the distrust of women. A distrust that women would be unable to be responsible over their bodies and the need for strict control over women through legislation such as forced sterilization. While eugenicists may have supported birth control, they did not view it as an effective enough practice to prevent the birth of unfit children into American society. Eugenics wanted a long term solution to the problem of unfit children, not a short term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Women s Liberation Movement Essay Women s Liberation Movement Betty Friedan wrote that the only way for a woman, as for a man, to find herself, to know herself as a person, is by creative work of her own. The message here is that women need more than just a husband, children, and a home to feel fulfilled; women need independence and creative outlets, unrestrained by the pressures of society. Throughout much of history, women have struggled with the limited roles society imposed on them. The belief that women were intellectually inferior, physically weaker, and overemotional has reinforced stereotypes throughout history. In the 1960s, however, women challenged their roles as the happy little homemakers. Their story is the story of the Women s Liberation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After women got the right to vote in 1920, the most devoted members of the women s movement focused on gaining other rights for women. Alice Paul and Lucy Burns, who had created the National Women s Party in 1916 to work for women s suffrage, turned their efforts toward passing the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). This amendment, which would make all forms of discrimination based on sex illegal, did not receive significant support and never passed. Arguments against the ERA, advocated by social reformers, such as Florence Kelley and Jane Addams, along with administrators in the Women s Bureau of the Department of Labor, were that the ERA would, in reality, eliminate protective legislation for women, harming working class women instead of helping them. Another issue that the Women s RightsMovement undertook was women s reproductive rights. In early 19th century American society, a husband could legally demand sexual intercourse from his wife, even if she didn t consent. Because of this, the issue of birth control began to surface among women activists. Margaret Sanger and Emma Goldman started advocating birth control in the 1920s. The American Birth Control League, which would later become the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, was founded in 1921. Throughout the 1900s, birth control would remain an important issue in the Women s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At this time, this school was segregated, but black people are trying to integrate into this school. • 5. Pglo Transformation Lab Write Up Introduction The transformation is the process in which the foreign cell DNA is hosted to hereditarily modify the cell. It is very useful tool for genetics because it enables them to introduce foreign DNA into bacteria, and useful for gene cloning in bacteria by making them carry specific gene sequences. The DNA fragment is the blueprint for every piece of the bacteria. The information in the DNA and RNA can be copied and translated into proteins. Depending on roles the proteins move to various part of the bacteria, which transport the proteins around the cells. There are many different ways in which bacteria obtain foreign DNA, involving the procedures of transformation. In transformation, bacteria carry their DNA from the environment through their cell wall. Frederick Griffith discovers the process of transformation in 1928 while examining virulent bacteria that cause pneumonia in mice. Griffith used two strains of pneumococcus bacteria: a virulent, smooth strain (S strain) and a non virulent rough strain. When mice were injected with smooth strain it killed the mice and the non virulent rough strain, mice were healthy and alive. The mice that are exposed to r strain cells stayed healthy and good, and those exposed to dead smooth cells stay healthy and good when r strain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Lord Of The Flies Comparison Analysis Composers such as William Golding and J.J Abrams are able to employ various themes and ideas to convey important messages within their texts. These themes are often represented through the clever clever and concise use of descriptive language and symbolism. Golding s lord of the flies and Abrams Examples of this are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film Lost where Golding and Abrams are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and societies brittle shell which when put under pressure results in a descent into chaos and savagery. Golding is able to encapsulate paramount themes and ideas in the text through the use of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and symbolism. The preeminent matter in Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing and combative aspects of human nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the best and worst of society, civilisation vs savagery. An example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a conch and decide to use it to summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early on the underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use. This is an example of symbolism used to relate society s values with the islands. Golding uses symbolism to convey his message that society s state of governing and law is feeble and if people are put in certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Modern-Day Mortgage Amortization Model III. The Essentials of A Modern day Mortgage Amortization Model Contrary to popular belief among some financial analysts, the mortgage crisis of 2008 may have occurred with or without the existence of subprime mortgages. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 1744 at their peak rose to just over 20% of all home mortgages originated, of which 35% defaulted. Subprime mortgage defaults accounted for approximately 7% of mortgage originated s at their peak. The cumulative defaults of conventional mortgages from vintage pools of 2007 were over 13%, surpassing subprime default rates (see Figure V, Fannie Mae 2013). The credit characteristics of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage pools originated between the years 2001 2007 were virtually the same, however... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nearly 100% of the three million mortgages originated prior to 2008 still underwater in 2013 would have been sufficiently de leveraged under PRAM (Macdonald, [2012], see Fig IV). The data in Figure III and IV confirms, most of the anchoring principles of the 30 Year mortgage have been lost due to its inability to reduce mortgage balances quick enough to keep up with our modern day economy. The 30 Year mortgage model has proven to be incapable of offsetting the historically low increase in wages to keep up with the past appreciation in housing and inflation rates (Wolfson, [2013]) A new amortization model that is mutually beneficial to lenders, borrowers, and bond investors in today s economy is essential (Jones, [2013]). A modern day mortgage amortization model should offer the capability and flexibility to sustain the following factors (Wolfson, [2013]): It should entice borrowers to stay in their mortgages for a longer period of time (Alexander and Moloney, ... • 8. The Lie Factory Summary In The Lie Factory, Jill Lepore examines the great influence that money and business have in politics. The first major event that clearly demonstrates this occurred in the 1934 election for governor of California. Upton Sinclair seemed to lead the race, until Campaign Inc, founded by Clem Whitaker and Leone Baxter, was hired to take him down. Their influence of that particular electionled to politics becoming essentially, the money making industry that it is today. Lepore utilizes several quotes in her examination. She starts off with a kind of a remarkable event, that leaves readers asking how it happened. After shocking or impressing the reader with the event, she then explains it in a step by step analysis that is backed by her great use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statement is very true. What it is basically saying is that Americans, not all of them, but a lot of them, do not take the time to really think about their voting decisions. This is turn makes Whitaker s and Baxter s job so much easier. Since Americans do not really take the time to inform or educate themselves in the person they are voting for, their campaign ads do not have to be all that clever or complex. This is still true today. A lot of people just vote for their party, regardless of the candidate that is chosen to represent their party. Rarely do people take a look at the person, rather than the party. One candidate could be more qualified to be president, but just because they do not represent the same party as the voter, people will not vote for them. The general public needs to educate themselves more before they vote. Too many people just go with their first instinct, and do not think about the choice that they are about to make. Surface level knowledge is not enough, especially in elections that could have a big impact on the country. People just need to think and research a little bit more on their own, so they can make a more informed and well thought out decision, without being influenced by advertisements or other ... • 9. All The Worlds A Stage And I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings In the poems All the worlds a Stage by William Shakespeare, and I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou are many similarities and differences in terms of literary elements such as Imagery, Personification, and Theme. One important similarity between these poems is the use of imagery. In the same way, another significant similarity is the use of personification element in both poems. Moreover, one main differenceamong these two poems is their themes. One important similarity between these two poems in terms of literary elements is the use of imagery. In the poem All the Worlds a Stage , William Shakespeare uses many imagery throughout the poem to illustrate the idea that people change and progress through the time meaning that the life is a cycle or process. Shakespeare says, With eyes severe and beard of formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances. (Stanza 1, line 18). Basically, this imagery gives the reader a clear idea that throughout a lifetime people move forward. In the same way, the poem I Know Why The Caged Bird Singsis full of imagery in almost every line. Personification element is widely used by Maya in the poem I Know Why The Caged Birds Sings with the purpose of explaining the lack of freedom toward black people. She says, The free bird thinks of another breeze (Stanza 4, line 1). From the beginning, when I was two years old my dad walked out on my mother, my sister, and me. When I was younger I never knew the reason why and I thought it was normal to not have a dad since I never really had one. In reality, my mom had to go through struggle to support my sister and I but, we never really knew everything she did until we were old enough to realize it. When Christmas came around every year we just figured Santa left us all these great gifts when in reality my mom had to work hard to pay all the bills and keep us happy. I could see you coming home after work late, you re in the kitchen trying to fix us a hot plate . Tupac Dear Mama I was always a top priority to my mom and my happiness was what made her happy. No matter how hard of a day she had or any other problems she would always put them to the side to make sure we were taken care of. As I started getting a little older I used to ask myself how my mom did it. I would think how does she wait with me in the morning for the school bus, go to work, pick me up from daycare, help me with my homework, have dinner cooked every night, take me to any doctor s appointment I had, take my sister to cheerleading practice and manage to get me ready for football practice at the same time, take us home to get ready for bed just to do it all over ... Few American households live without some form of transportation. The amount of money spent on the transportation proves whether the automobile is a necessity or a luxury. Higher priced models sell more when the economy is stronger. When the economy is slow lower cost cars are more popular. Transportation as a whole is a necessity. The form of the transportation is what determines if it is a luxury. (Collier, 1981) The fluctuations in the supply and demand of automobiles have an effect on other industries. One such industry that is affected in a measurable way is the after market automobile parts industry. When the demand for new automobiles is high the demand for after market parts is lower. When the demand for new automobiles is low the demand for after market parts rises. The only explanation is uncovered when looking at individual households. Individual households have a limited amount of money to budget for transportation. If new cars are in high demand the income is higher for individual households. If new cars are not in high demand individual households have less money to budget for transportation. With less money to budget for transportation, individuals are more likely to use after market parts to make repairs on their existing vehicle rather than purchase a new vehicle when their current vehicle needs costly repairs. The cost to repair a vehicle is far less than the cost to purchase a new vehicle. (Lamonica, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Examples Of Religion In Lord Of The Flies Religion in Chaotic Societies Such as Brave New World and Lord of the Flies Differences dominate the varying cultures and societies of the world. Differences appear everywhere, from cultural norms to forms of government. Most, if not all civilizations rely on some form of religion. Whether a society relies on a singular extraterrestrial force as a god, or many gods who exist as one, each culture relies on religionto calm the chaotic nature of the world. The 20th century novels, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and Brave New Worldby Aldous Huxley, both use the of Christ like archetypes, upon which societies depend when they fall into chaos, in an attempt to calm the disarray of everyday reality. Human nature naturally gravitates towards a religious figure when reality becomes overwhelming. Selflessness and sympathy build the archetype of a Christ like figure. Christ like figures work to aid the society, demonstrating selflessness and generosity. In Lord of the Flies, Simon remains selfless in the face of adversity. While the other boys obsess and fight over hunting and fire, Simon helps take care of the littluns. To the littluns, Simon acts as a Christ like figure: Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands (Golding 56). Golding shows how Christ like figures demonstrate selflessness to others, providing the best for other people rather than for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Purchasing Drones The decision of purchasing drones for the purpose of local law enforcement to use could be a negative and a positive. There are several states in the U.S. who do allow the purchase and the usage of drones by local law enforcement. Some of those states consist of Texas and California; but for the states on the East Coast (where Baltimore, Maryland resides); there is one state who allows the purchase and usage of drones: Florida. There are several pros and cons on this issue. Some of the pros and cons revolve around money, time, and the issue of individual rights. A drone is an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers. (Merriam Webster). It is also beyond [the] line of sight: the GPS of a U.S. spy drone. (Dictionary.com). The issue that will be continuously brought up will be the right of privacy. Will the usage of drones violate the Fourth Amendment? It can be a violation if abused. The key word in the definition of drones IS spy. Is it spying if you are looking at something in plain view, but the device is out of plain sight? The Fourth Amendment states that every individual has the right to not have unreasonable searches and not without probable cause. Chronic Conditions That Can Not Be Cured LTC s are chronic conditions that cannot be cured but can be maintained and symptomatically controlled with medication and therapies (World Health Organisation [WHO], 2015; Department of Health [DOH], 2005). The management of LTC s has been implemented due to the increase in the ageing population which in turn produces an increase in the incidence of LTC s such as diabetes, Parkinson Disease [PD], pernicious anaemia, chronicobstructive pulmonary disease, neurological and heart conditions. Due to word restriction the author will discuss diabetes and Parkinson s disease. Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person s blood sugar to become too high or too low as the pancreas no longer produces the right amount, or any, insulin (NHS Choices, 2014). Insulin is a hormone which is released from the pancreas, working by moving sugar from the blood into other body tissues enabling the liver to stop producing excessive glucose. There are two main types of diabetes, type1 and type 2. Once known as childhood diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes, type 1 is much rarer than type 2 diabetes which occurs when the body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin (Mayo Clinic, 2016; MedlinePlus, 2016). Symptoms of diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, long healing wounds and unexplained weight loss which occurs due to glucose staying in the blood (Diabetes UK, 2016). • 37. The Last Supper By Leonardo Da Vinci Essay Bad Company When Leonardo da Vinci painted his famous work, The Last Supper , he prepared himself by making a thorough study of the lives of each of the twelve Apostles as well as the Lord. Then he set out to find real faces to paint as the faces of the thirteen men represented in the painting. As the story goes, he thought finding a face to paint as the face of the Lord would be the most difficult. His goal was to find a man in whose face; he could see love, compassion and kindness. He wanted to see the glow of purity in his countenance and a gleam akin to divinity in his eyes. Da Vinci searched for a number of months before he found a man whose countenance portrayed the characteristics that he needed to paint the face of Jesus Christ. The man gave his permission and his face was painted as the face of the Lord. During the following three years, Leonardo da Vincifound other men, whose faces he painted as the faces of Peter, Andrew, James, John, Phillip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, Thaddaeus and Simon. Then he began searching for a face to paint as the face of Judas. He would need to find a man in whose face he could see dissipation and despair. There would be no gleam in his eyes. Finally, he learned about a fellow who was being held down at the jail for thievery and drunkenness. The artist went to the jail and as soon as he saw the man, he knew the face that he had been looking was found. He had discovered the face, he would paint as that of Judas; the ... In Antigone, Sophoclesuses the theme of a tragedy, to emphasize the limitations of human knowledge and wisdom, and the cultural conflict of state laws and religion to show how much religion played a part in everyday life and culture. The conflict between moralists and realists, as a result, has always existed with neither side being able to convince the other of the validity of its values each side is imprisoned its own value system in the name of which it rejects the values of its adversary (1). In modern day society, the perception of morality has shifted into what we known consider ethics. Society, as a result, evolved from one in which values and principles are defined by a preset based on a supernatural being God and the Bible to a rational one in which people can influence and control. They are the individuals dressed in drab clothing asking for money, the people sleeping on park benches in the middle of the night, and the people who we judge when they beg for money wondering why they don t get a job. They are judged under a certain narrative that reduces the homeless individual into their current state of being (Lancione, 2013). To understand homelessnessone should not only look at the current condition of the individuals but also look at the discourse of factors and events that led homeless individuals into their current states. Homeless youth although hard to spot are still very much a current problem in our society. Many youth fall in between the cracks of the system and are forced to find different ways to produce some sort of income. There is a strong stigma involved when it comes to homeless youth and many face dangers and a great amount of stress while living on the streets (Kidd, 2007). Many of the homeless youth find it difficult to survive and often don t have shelter and are always hungry (Kidd, 2007). To support themselves, many homeless youth find themselves engaging in prostitution as a means of income and survival (Kidd, 2007). God wants more Christians to stay in the business world, the arts, entertainment, politics, journalism, etc. and bring their Christian convictions and world view to bear on how they conduct their business, write songs or films, or paint pictures. One of the reasons for the recent decline of Christian impact on our culture is because too many Christians have left the fields of science, math, film, art, journalism, and especially politics, and hence there was a vacuum left that the humanist, skeptic, atheist, and agnostic filled. So, now when in recent years Christians have tried to boldly make an impact on culture in these various fields, especially politics, we are finding the whole world view of our culture has changed and the world view of absolutes, right and wrong, the Ten Commandments, prayer, belief in God, convictions about abortion and homosexuality as sin are scoffed at, laughed at, labeled as intolerant, and even pushed out by media blitz or ignoring the facts or not giving Christians opportunity to voice their opinion. • 41. Negative Effects Of Technology The effects of technology usage have long been a topic of debate, with the negative consequences often being brought up. Authors such as Robert Samuels, Alison Gopnik, Nicholas Carr, Gary Small and Vorgan Gigi have all addressed this topic in their own articles. In Samuels Breaking Down Borders: How Technology Transforms the Private and Public Realms, he discusses the creation of private bubbles in public spaces due to technology, and the consequent alienation of others. Diagnosing the Digital Revolution by Gopnik argues that the habits that tech users have today have always existed, while Carr s Is Google Making Us Stupid? states that technology is actively changing the way humans think. Meet Your iBrain by Gigi and Small covers how technology affects brains and alters them. This paper will use the articles and an interview with a peer to analyze the perceived negative effects of using technology, particularly worse memory, shorter attention span, exacerbation of bad habits, and shifting emotions. The most noticeable effect of technology usage is a shortage of memory; not as in computer memory, but human memory. With Google constantly at people s fingertips, it s easy to look up information rather than memorize it. Carr cites in his article that tech users cease to exercise their memory and become forgetful, instead of relying on the internet to quickly search for facts without having to commit them to memory (7). He also states that humans are losing the capacity to deep read and cannot unearth meaning in articles the way that they used to in the time of the printing press and less evolved pieces of technology (3). In Gigi and Small s article, they mention that the prefrontal cortex, or the area in the brain that handles short term memory, could be altered by technology usage (4). However, Kristina Konidaris, a student who uses multiple technological devices daily, states that the technology does not have a profound impact on her memory. Instead, she states that her memory is more affected by her interest in the subject and her feelings rather than the technology used, although sometimes it may be easier to remember things she has handwritten rather than typed. • 43. Analysis Of Ezinma In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe The bond of family is something to be cherished. It is no longer there simply for reasons of survival, families exist because it gives us humans identity in both a physical and figurative way. Our name is what we gain from our family. We also inherit the expectations of the family. But, over time we become our identity and that is the figurative. I could give you a list of names that you have heard of and that identity is connected to past events or the personality of the person, but to you now, the name is a personification of that personality or the way you felt in past events. This is the reality of names, and the way we perceive each other. Thusly, Ezinma form Chinua Achebes, Things Fall Apart, represents more than just her name. She represents, resilience, strength, relief, and comradery. The mother of Ezinma, her name was Ekwefi, had been visited by monumental tragedy. Ekwefi could not bear a child, until Ezinma. Ekwefi bore a total of ten children with nine dying in stages of infancy. It is quite evident that Ekwefi had become a very bitter woman, the naming of her children were the biggest hint. Their names began receiving more sinister meanings. Ezinma was the first to survive into her childhood. She survived through spells of illness due to her being deemed as a ogbanje, which is a type of spirit that inhabits babies and dies to torture the mother. However, Ezinma seemed determined to live and was able to be cleared of her ogbanje title. Through this, her and her mother developed an interesting relationship. Ezinma and Ekwefi were more than mother and daughter, There was something in it like the companionship of equals... (76 Achebe). This is a special relationship that is very uncommon and creates a unique personality for Ezinma. Moreover, we see this in modern times as well, as Kwame Anthony Appiahdescribes in his novel, Cosmopolitanism, Sometimes, familiar values are intertwined with unfamiliar customs and arrangements.
