Shostakovich s Contribution to Soviet Propaganda
In the year 1922, after a long and bloody civil war, the Soviet Union was officially formed. After
World War II, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, USSR, established itself as one of the world s
superpowers, opposite of the United States of America. The Communist regime reigned over the
Soviet Union until 1990, shortly before the Soviet Union collapsed and was formally dissolved in
December of 1991. However, during that reign, many rules and regulations were imposed on all
aspects of life, including music. Many musicians were denounced because their music did not
conform to the Soviet regulations. Some fled the country. Others stayed to fight for the right to
compose freely. Those who stayed had to walk a fine line, balancing their ... Show more content on

In 1928, Stalin implemented the First Five Year Plan, which was meant to guide the economy into
rapid industrialization. As a result, in 1928, collective farms were established all over the country, in
an attempt to increase food supply for urban communities and raw materials. However, famine once
again ravaged the state, causing the deaths of millions. Starting in 1936 and continuing until 1938,
Stalin orchestrated a series of campaigns of political repression and persecution, sentencing over a
million people to forced labor camps, known as Gulags, or to be executed. This became known as The
Great Purge, or The Great Terror. Stalin revealed the new Soviet Constitution in 1936. In 1939, the
Treaty of Non Aggression between Germany and the Soviet Union was signed in Moscow. The secret
details of this non aggression pact divided eastern Europe in to German and Soviet spheres of
influence. As a result, on September 1st and 17th, Poland was invaded by Germany and the Soviet
Union. The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were annexed by the USSR. Finland, which
according to the pact fell in the Soviet sphere of influence, resisted diplomatic tries to move back it s
border, thus resulting in the Winter War, in which the Finns ceded portions of Karelia to the Soviet
Union. On June 22nd, 1941, Germany broke the non aggression pact and invaded the Soviet Union

How do William Shakespeare and Carol Ann Duffy subvert traditional roles of gender and sexuality in
From Mrs Tiresias and Sonnet 20 ?
Both Carol Ann Duffy in From Mrs Tiresias and William Shakespeare in Sonnet 20 subvert male
gender roles by presenting the male protagonists with physical female traits. Both poets differ in their
presentation of traditional gender roles and sexuality.
In From Mrs Tiresias , Carol Ann Duffy subverts the gender role of men as strong masculine men,
playing on the modern stereotype that men are unable to cope with the monthly trials and tribulations
of being a woman. She tells us that he had to have One week in bed. Two doctors in. Three ... Show

Shakespeare has a highly misogynistic view of women, saying that their hearts are acquainted With
shifting change , their eyes are false in rolling and he also talks about women being false implying
deceit and an artificial façade. At the culmination of the rhyming couplet, Shakespeare comically tops
his damning excoriation of women by telling us that thy love s use their treasure , insinuating that
women just want one little thing rather than a soul to love endlessly. This is not subverting the
traditional Elizabethan stereotype of women. By contrast, Duffy subverts these gender roles of women
by highlighting that men can also act up to Shakespeare s Elizabethan stereotype, just like Mr Tiresias
is seen doing in From Mrs Tiresias . He is metaphorically prostituting himself; he is seen entering
glitzy restaurants on the arms of [multiple] powerful men and while we are sure this is not for sexual
advances, Duffy highlights the superficial nature of Mr Tiresias quest for notoriety. We have a
complete juxtaposition between each poet and the reinforcement of gender stereotypes of the gender
opposite their own; Shakespeare is renouncing women and thus highlighting the loyalty and
dependability of men by using the pitfalls of women to celebrate the qualities of the Fair Youth i.e the
man he is revering by contrast, whereas Duffy is repudiating men and accentuating the patience,
kindness and supportiveness of women (Mrs Tiresias is holding his new soft

Almir Buco The Art of a Deal:A Kyoto Protocol Simulation 1st Hour In my first hour Environmental
Science class, we did a simulation of what it would be like to experience a real life situation of deals,

Herbal Medicine Vs. Herbal Medicines
A natural drug because it is derived from nature is beginning to emerge at a faster rate and is known as
the alternative medicine or herbal medicines. Botanical medicine or Herbalism is another way of
describing the strict use of plants or plant extracts that may be ingested or applied to the skin to treat
illness and assist the bodily functions (Herbalism). Pharmaceutical drugs are said to be inevitable, but
so are their symptoms, side effects and harmful substances used to produce them. These days herbal
medicine is marketed aggressively across the world, so it s a good time to take a look at why this is,
and what advantages herbal medicine can offer over prescription drugs. Herbal remedies are gradually
becoming more accepting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So we automatically think, oh, they were not supposed to take these drugs or they abused the
substance, wrong, the patients are not the ones at fault and neither are the doctors, people are
following the directions, the bolded print on the back and the prescriptions given, but are still dying.
Sadly, this is occurring because doctors simply are unable to know how every single one of our bodies
reacts to a certain medicine causing different symptoms and side effects and some unable to withhold
the prescripted amount. This is exactly why people avoid pharmaceutical drugs, they are dangerous,
unpredictable, and at times fatal. Herbal medicines are a newer face to medicine, but have already met
the standards and exceeded the expectations of pharmaceutical drugs because you are unable to
overdose on a plant, and no synthesized chemicals are included with these because it is 100% derived
from nature and these medicines only turn symptom filled and fatal when the scientists get their hands
on them. Nature is our friend and so are herbal remedies. Along with the synthesized chemicals used
to produce these drugs they fail in the category of availability as well. For one, these drugs need
scientists, doctors, physicians, pharmacists and many other highly educated individuals to make just
one pill. Places that suffer from low income, poor environment, and destroyed hope are unable to

Great West Description
The Great West
The western United States is amazing. My parents took my family and I out west when I young. The
Great West was a sensational place, I have seen many sensational places with great majestic sites.
There are 2 places that I preferred. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Big Sur, California. I was
very excited for this road trip, because it was the first time I did something on my own. My vehicle
was a shiny Black Toyota Celica. It contained a smell of ocean breezes, and cigarettes in the interior of
the car. The sun was bright and the sky dark baby blue. It was cold that day and windy. The humidity
was high and when the wind would blow it was freezing. In addition, I began my trip West, I was
earnest about this trip.
Next, I noticed things changing rapidly. The first 1500 miles was boring. After that, I was driving
through Kansas. It started to look, feel, and even smell different. Kansas is a long state to drive across.
The eastern part of Kansas had high humidity and weather and it felt sticky. The western part of
Kansas had no humidity, and an elevation of roughly 4000 ft. It was the beginning of the desert. The
desert was quiet but peaceful, it was a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Freedom In Colonial America
For many immigrants who emigrated from Europe, the New World was an opportunity to escape the
oppressive reign of monarchs and the papacy for a better life, and a way to experience what they
believed to be true freedom. Although, not everyone expressed, or experience freedom in the same
way. For men, and those who were not indentured servants, were provided more opportunities in the
European colonies than they did at home, for the colonists, freedom meant owning land. Some people
such as, Johannes Hänner, didn t even require land to feel free in the New World, it was simply a
matter of being able to live comfortably with family and friends. However, this positive outlook was
not widely shared among all colonists, in Virginia for example, while

Parenting Vs Today s Parenting
Introduction Over the years, everyone has discussed how schooling can be improved and what they
can do to make that happen. They always discuss factors like teachers, curriculums, friends, and sports
but when it comes down to it, a child is made into the person they will be in the future by their parents
or guardians. Dr. Gail Gross, a nationally recognized family, child development, and human behavior
expert, says, At the end of the day, parents must parent you must be what you want to see. From a very
young age your child will mimic you and your behavior. (Gail Gross, Par. 6). If parents want to see an
improvement in students, the simple answer is the way those students are being parented and what

In a study conducted by Ronald Riggio, the Henry R. Kravis Professor of Leadership and
Organizational Psychology and former Director of the Kravis Leadership Institute at Claremont
McKenna College, he was able to identify the four main parenting types. This includes Authoritarian,
Neglectful, Indulgent, and Authoritative parenting.
Authoritarian parenting are parents who prefer to have total control of their children. They are usually
very dominant and live their children s life for them. It s also said that when children with these types
of parents usually grow up to be kind of antisocial and lacking of leadership skills. This could be and
he s a huge problem in school and after school in work or in just general life (Ronald Riggio, Par. 1).
This parenting style can also be referred to as helicopter parenting. In the article, Teen Spirit which is
written about helicopter parenting, Dan Slate, an author through Zinc Reading Labs, states, The
hardest part of the parents task is often the quid pro quo, insisting on getting some things from their
kid up front, in return for the privilege not the inevitability but the earned privilege of going to
college. Parents have to accept that the narratives are
Akulschin 3 open ended. One never knows which failure will be the tipping point for an adolescent
toward more effort, self reflection, assuming responsibility, in a word, discovering inner motivation.

Public Schools Should Not Be The Place For Religious...
One of the many foundations of the United States as a nation was religion. When people fled their
homes in search of a new place, one of the many reasons was due to religious freedom. Almost
immediately conflicts arose between religions, and their belief systems. No problems seem to arise
with teaching religion to children in school until the 1900 s. That is when the courts decided religious
instructions in public schools would be deemed unconstitutional. Court cases started around the
country with people fighting against religious instruction in public schools, many accusing teachers of
putting their beliefs in their teachings. The young, and impressionable minds of children should not be
exposed to another persons religious beliefs because they can easily be swayed in a certain direction.
This is why religious practices, such as prayer, and the teachings of creationism should not be allowed
in public schools. Public schools should not be the place for religious practices for many reasons.
Firstly, there a several different ways in which having those practices in public schools goes against
the Constitution, and the Establishment Clause, which does not allow public schools to endorse any
religion. Secondly, as children are minors in age, so are their minds. Children can easily be swayed in
a certain direction if they witness an authority figure expressing a certain belief. Having religious
practices in public schools also goes against many science classes with the

The And Of The Godhead
Oh my God! is a phrase that has become more and more frequently used in day to day
conversations all across America. We often exclaim His name as we are given a new piece of
information, become annoyed, are surprised, and when we are exhausted and pleading for help
from deity. We hear His name in movies, song lyrics, and everyday life. There is no escaping it.
Do we ever really stop and think about what it is that this phrase is saying? Who is God and is
He really yours to be had? How can we as a society say and hear this phrase so often, and yet I
don t think many of us actually know who this God is that we speak of. As we come to learn

In some Christian religions these three individuals are considered
to exist as one, and it is referred to as The Trinity. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints, however, believes that God the Father, Jesus the Messiah, and The Holy Spirit are three
distinctly separate individuals with their own distinct roles in our eternal progression. According
to the church s first Article of Faith, We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son,
Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. . We esteem this principle of the gospel of Jesus Christ to
be so important that in the recorded word of God that is the Pearl of Great Price, there is a
Prophet to whom the Lord gave a commandment that highlighted the plain and simple need of
the understanding of this principle. In Moses chapter 7, verse 11, And he gave unto me a
commandment that I should baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, which is full of
grace and truth, and of the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of the Father and the Son.
Baptism, being a necessary ordinance for our salvation and eternal life, was to be done in, not
only the name of God the Father, but also in the name of the Son and the Holy Ghost. Each and
every one of them play a necessary role to ensure the progression of the human race towards
eternal life, joy, and happiness.

The Purpose of Dreams
Dreams are a very ponderous things. Simply saying, dreams are a stream of images, sounds, and
the actions of something; like a movie. But never have dreams been able to be explained. The
Greeks and Romans claimed that dreams were signs from their gods and had prophetic magic
(www.scientificamerican.com). Even though the purpose of dreams has not been discovered, a
huge movement in the study of dreams occurred at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1952,
scientists in Chicago discovered electrical readings during a certain stage of sleep. When woken
up in this stage, people almost always remember their dreams. This stage is the only stage of
sleep where we dream, and it is known as the REM stage (YouTube.com).

of consciousness, a spot where we hold memories before we move them from short term to long

The next theory is referred to as garbage collection . This states that we only dream to
organize and get rid of unwanted ideas or memories. Now this is the main focus of many
theories, but with other details. This theory just focuses on removing unwanted memories. This
theory also states that we forget our dreams because we are looking though our memories and
then discarding them. So basically, our dreams are a replay of our memories. (10 theories that

Now this next theory is the exact opposite of the last. It is known as reviewing what we

The Plight of The African Slave Essay
Introduction
Slavery was one of the darkest periods in African American history. Africans were taken from their
homes in West Africa and brought to America to work on plantations. However, slavery was not
something new as it existed in Africa before Europeans partook in it, but slavery in Africa was very
different from slavery in America. During their voyage through the Middle Passage many slaves
perished. Those who survived were sold and subjected to the harsh life on the plantations. When this
happened, their authentic cultures were drastically changed from the way of life in their native
homelands in Africa to life in the plantation society of the American colonies. In this essay, I will

Political System
Kings and queens had the authority in many villages such as in Venture s. Often times there were more
than one person in charge of the government. As in the case in Oludah Equiano s homeland, there
were no kings but chief and elders who ran the government of his village. According to Equiano, for
every transaction of the government, as far as my slender observation extended was conducted by the
chief or elders of the place (191). The political system also was consisted of judges and senators in
addition to the chiefs and elders. Surprisingly there were no jails and the punishment depended on the
crime committed. For example, according to Equaino, Adultery was sometimes punished with slavery
or death.... (191).
In America, the enslaved people had no political or judicial systems. They went from being kings and
chiefs to merely commoners under enslavement. They were two classes of

Analysis Of The Real Housewife In Popular Culture
The reappropriation of the housewife in popular culture is not only prevalent through fictional media
but has also become popular in reality television. Over the last ten years Bravo s The Real
Housewives Of franchise has grown into somewhat of a phenomenon. This began in 2006 with the
release of The Real Housewives of Orange County which followed the lives of a group of affluent
women living in Southern California as they went about their daily life. Following the world wide
success of the original show six follow up series have since been created, all following the same
premise but set in different cities across America. These series follow the lives of women who live in
gated communities and creates drama in discovering what is hidden behind said gates. The very title
of the show itself is interesting as taking into consideration the women in which the series revolve
around, The Real Housewives appears to be a somewhat paradoxical name. Although some of the
women in the show are married and live within the domestic sphere, the majority of women have
successful careers out with the home and a significant number of them are no longer married or have
never been so. This raises the question, why are women who are not housewives represented as being
so? What does this say about the portrayal of married and indeed of single women within popular
culture? The Real Housewives franchise positions women as being independent, powerful and
successful regardless of being either with

Application of Ethical Theories
The role of ethical theories in ethical reasoning and behavior within organizations Research proposal
Sigalit Pasternak, Phd student
The Faculty of Management

Supervisor: Dr. Ishak Saporta
Introduction
Business ethics is a specialized branch of ethics focusing on how moral standards apply to business
organizations and behavior (Velasques, 1998). As such, it cannot be understood separately from the
general ideas of ethics, and the general ethical theories apply to business ethics as well (Hunt Vitell,
1986; Fritzsche Becker, 1984;
Schumann, 2001; Lahdesnati, 2005). Normative ethical theory offers different moral theories, each
prescribing a set of moral rules that individuals can apply in the process of deciding ... Show more

Finally, most of the empirical research on the connection between ethical theories and ethical
reasoning is carried out in separation from research on the ethical decision making process. Although
there is a consensus as to the role of important individual and contextual components on ethical
decision making within organizations (for review, see Kish Gephart, Harrison and Trevino,
2010 Meta analysis), relatively little is known about the effect of these components on ethical
reasoning within organizations. The third objective of this research is to explore the link between
different individual and environmental factors and the application of different ethical theories in
ethical reasoning.
The proposed research can generate a theoretical contribution to the literature on ethical decision
making within organizations in several ways. First, the research attempts to resolve the differences in
past research finding in regard to the role of ethical theories in ethical reasoning by examining the
connection between the specific content and context of ethical dilemmas and the ethical rule or theory
applied by individuals to explain their resolution. Secondly, it

communication they share with their pet over conversations with humans.
There are different levels of affection and respect that people have for their pets, but the term family
members is used quite often. Cohen (2002) explores this trend in three different ways: (a) Pets are like
human family; (b) pets are part of a broader social network system but not family; (c) pets are family
members only in a linguistically playful way. (621).
Whether people joke about their pets as children or not, the idea of companion animals as specific kin
or generic family members is becoming much more accepted in western cultural systems, and we have
to pay much more attention to it. If we do not recognize the intense emotional bonds people have with
animals, we risk damaging both the human and the pet s well being when they are forced to separate
for various reasons (housing, illness, family disputes). Beyond psychological issues, if we discount or
ignore the importance of pets in the kinship network in anthropological studies, we risk missing out on
a rich area of human relations, which will enrich the field of cultural

sad for Bartleby, he feels sad that the man who works for him is lonely and has no one to be with.
However, as the story keeps going Bartleby refused to do anything. When asked to do something his

control his anger. When again I entered my office, lo, a note from the landlord lay upon my desk. I
opened it with trembling hands. It informed me that the writer had sent to the police, and had Bartleby

The Guilt Of Murder In Edgar Allen Poe s Tell-Tale Heart
When people commit murder, they try to justify their actions with logical reasons for doing so.
However, if the reasons are not valid, they try to convince themselves that they are. The short story
Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe describes the actions of an unknown narrator who cunningly
murders an elderly man at midnight because of his vulture eye. The narrator recounts the confidence
in his finesse of the concealment of the body until he hears the first unperceived thumping of the dead
man s heart, driving him to confess to the police. His frantic attempts to convince the reader of his
justification of the murder and that he is not insane creates suspense that leaves the reader at the edge
of their seats at the moment of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One might object here that the narrator lacked the mental capacity to distinguish right from wrong.
The claim of mental insanity could be supported by the narrator s abnormal hearing of the dead old
man s heart thumping. ...but the noise arose over all and continually increased. It grew louder louder
louder! (Poe). It is correct that normal people do not hear dead people s hearts beating, however, what
he likely heard was the sound of his own heart ringing loudly in his ears due to his guilty conscience.
The various instances where the narrator described how afraid he felt when staring at the man s
vulture eye specifies that he indeed did have a motive to kill the old man. In the beginning, he stated
that he cared for the old man, but his eye that resembled a vulture frightened him. ...his blood ran cold
(Poe). His obvious discomfort and contempt when looking at the eye irked him so much that he killed
the elderly man to purge the mere thought of the evil eye from his mind. To add on, every night for
eight nights, he would sneak into the old man s room to wait for the quintessential time to commit the
final deed of killing him. However, the narrator had to wait several days to strike because as the old
man was sleeping, his eye was not open and his eye was the true object that vexed him. ...but I found
the eye always closed...it was impossible to do the work (Poe). On the eighth night, the old man heard

Norms Of A Norm Violation
In every aspect of society there are social norms. We live in a world that some norms are considered
normal and some are considered not so normal. These social norms are important so that people can
act a certain way in society. Doing a norm violation project for this class has been a fun project.
Norms are expectations of a behavior that are considered to be the right way to act. What is considered
right behavior? Some things I do in my life can be considered a norm or a norm violation. Norm
violations are stepping away from what our society considers to be a norm. There are a few different
types of norms. Norms that are not enforced are called folkways. Folkways can be considered people
who are half naked in a gay parade. Norms that are strictly enforced because they are a core value of a
group are mores. Mores are when a woman would be exposing her breast in the gay parade.
On February 17, 2016 I decided to commit my norm violation. I went into the Goodwill store on Olive
Drive near my home; it was in the late afternoon after five pm. I decided to do my violation on breast
feeding in public with older children because it is such a controversial issue in our society. The
children were my own kids and have been breast feed before, so they knew what was to be expected.
My oldest child is an eleven year old male, my middle child is a nine year old male and my youngest
child is a six year old female. I wore loose fitting clothes so this could be possible. We began by

Poverty Of The United States Essay
More than 800 million people in the world are malnourished, 777 million of them are from the
developing world (Raphel, S., 2014). Poverty is an issue that must be addressed to the population loud
and clear or everyone will end up suffering. There are many families trying to survive and live from
paycheck to paycheck. Unfortunately, there are some families that are unable to support himself or
herself or any family member. One important key issue of poverty in the United States is inequality.
Many Americans blame the poor people for their own fate but you should never judge a book by its
cover. There can be many reasons why an individual or families end up in poverty. For example, low
wage jobs, discrimination and social inequality, vulnerability to natural disasters, war and political
instability. Another big issue we face today is child poverty. This is a very critical issue because these
young children are our future. If we let these children live in poverty, there is a higher chance they will
drop out of school, look for work in order to support their family, or give up in life. Children in
poverty are becoming the poorest age group in the United Sates. According to the National Center for
Children in Poverty (NCCP), a U.S. family of three living in deep poverty survives on an annual
income below $9,276, or less than $9.00 a day per family member. Unfortunately, children face many
difficulties in the United States living in deep poverty because they are not able to

Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University Essays
Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University
The Background of the Costs of Tuition at Iowa State University
Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university gets
money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in state
residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while out of
state residents have to pay almost twice as much. Iowa State University does not have reciprocity,
meaning that even residents from the surrounding states, Minnesota, Illinois, etc., have to pay full out
of state tuition. Out of state residents have to pay about $9000 a year for tuition, while Iowa residents

The students that come to Iowa State are not all Iowa residents. The out of state residents are the ones
who have to pay a great deal of money to attend the university. These students should not feel that
many of the doors to the kind of education they would like have been shut in their face because of the
amount of money it costs to attend many universities. To help solve many problems for out of state
students, their tuition for attending Iowa State University should be set around $5000. By setting it at
an amount that is only about $3000 less than the present out of state tuition it will make it much more
affordable for the students and the University will not lose money. Needs for Changing the Tuition at
ISU
The needs for the decrease in out of state tuition at the university can be seen in several areas, such as
the community diversity, availability of education to all, and the income based discrimination of
students. Iowa State university does not have a very diverse community. During the 1998 1999 school
year 78.8 percent of the total population at Iowa State University was of Iowa residency. Many of the
Iowa residents are from the surrounding area of Ames, IA, where Iowa State is located. Only 17.6
percent were non residents but United States citizens and the remaining 9.6 percent were international
students (ISU Fact book). The percentages were even lower in the incoming freshman class of that

Cinderella Story Analysis
Since its first telling, this story has been loved and enjoyed by people all around the world. It s
popularity high and it s variations money, the Cinderella story is appreciated by children and adults
alike. However, as time has passed and values changed, these variations have become more divisive.
Many American parents have trouble allowing their children to read them when much of the material
they disagree with. This not only puts them in a difficult position with their children but also with the
many other parents who see no problem allowing their children to read and enjoy these tales. The
parents unhappy with the contents of the tale often find problems with the way in which the
stepmother is presented. For example, in The Wicked Stepmother a story from India, the author writes
of the stepmother, She at once took a dislike to them, and treated them unkindly and gave them little
food (The Wicked Stepmother 614). It is very common for the stepmother to have no redeeming
qualities in these stories which the parents find problematic. In today s world, there are many
combined families that believe it is a bad idea to cause children to fear their stepmothers. They also
disapprove of the way the story continues the negative stereotype of the wicked stepmother which
harms both stepmothers and their stepchildren. The parents who find no problem with the story have a
different perspective on the stepmother s role. In their opinion, the use of the stepmother as the
antagonist is important to the story and children s understanding of it. Children have not developed
deeper, more complex fears yet. Their fears are more simplistic and base level. For most children their
lives revolve around home and family, this makes the idea of an evil stepmother something especially
scary to them because like Cinderella they wouldn t be able to leave a situation like that on their own.
For many children it takes time to be able to empathize with others. So, making the villain something
simplistic that relates to something they would personally be afraid of raises the stakes for them and
makes it easier for the child to put him or herself into the character s shoes or glass slippers in this
case. Another

Peter Pan Reflection
Altering Tink Sam Taylor (CEO), once said, If we aren t willing to change and keep up with
innovation someone else will. If someone isn t motivated to move forward and create new ideas, there
will be someone else that will succeed in their place. People need change sometime, or their lives
would be dull, static, and boring. Change is crucial to a person s life to show dynamic differences in
their characteristics. It is important for people to be flexible and open minded in different experiences
to handle future circumstances. Change is the key to determine one s future. In J.M. Barrie s Peter
Pan, the character Tinker Bell is dynamic as illustrated by her words, actions, and motivations. To
start, Tinker Bell is shown to be dynamic depicted through her unkind words. An example of this from
the book is when Tink treats Wendy offensively by calling her ugly: He had to translate. She is not
very polite. She says you are a great ugly girl, and that she is my fairy (Barrie 27). Tinker Bell is
shown to be uncivil and boorish towards Wendy by calling her ugly. As a perfect antagonist, she
creates tension and suspense in the story with her threats towards Wendy. Without remorse, Tink doesn
t even apologize to Wendy. With this type of behavior, she shows her nasty side, her lack of concern
for her feelings, and how she may have hurt them. However, while Tinker Bell expressed in words,
her more cruel side, being churlish towards Wendy, that doesn t represent her whole self. Next, Tinker
Bell illustrates her dynamic self through her actions towards other characters, like Peter. For instance,
when Tink plays the role of protagonist towards Peter by saving his life: No time for words now; time
for deeds;and with one of her lightning movements Tink got between his lips and the draught, and
drained it to the dregs (121). Tink flew in front of Peter s lips before he could drink the poison
knowing it could kill either Peter or herself depending on who drank it. Tinker Bell shows a caring and
selfless side through an action that could kill her, but her love for Peter was so strong, she had no
choice. This makes her a protagonist. All in all, she was Peter s hero that night, and this explains how
Tink is not

The generation gap in King Lear by Shakespeare
One of the underlying themes in Shakespeare s play, King Lear is the concept of the generation gap.
This gap is mainly illustrated between the family. The older generation is Lear himself, and the
younger generation consists of his daughters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia. In the second plot of the
play, Gloucester represents the older generation, and his sons, Edmund and Edgar exemplifies the
younger generation. Both younger generations can be divided into two distinct groups. Goneril, Regan
and Edmund are the villains in both the plots and Edgar and Cordelia are the loyal, faithful children.
This little twist adds to the effect of the generation gap in the play. There are many comparisons that
can be made and confrontations that occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is apparent that the younger generation is motivated by greed, power and lust. This potentially made
them more cunning and ruthless in their actions by exploiting the older generation s vulnerability.
Edmund s desire for Edgar s half of the inheritance, shows how benevolent a human being can be. In
Edmund s soliloquy in the beginning of[Act 1 scene 2] he planned to betray both his father and half
brother by forging a letter describing Edgar s intentions on Gloucester s inheritance. Upon showing
this letter to the gullible Gloucester, he ordered to have a contract out for Edgar s head.
The daughters Goneril and Regan are inspired by their hunger for power and their lust for Edmund.
Once Goneril and Regan received their land, they immediately showed no respect to Lear, who gave
them the land. In [Act 1 scene 4] Goneril instructs her servant Oswald to show utter disrespect for
Lear. Oswald complies and enrages Lear. Soon Lear will find that his two daughters have no loyalties
to him.
As it turns out, there is no loyalties within each other. In [Act 5 scene 3] Goneril has poisoned her own
sister, in hopes of capturing Edmund s love. However, Edgar and Cordelia are exceptions to this
generalization. Their actions are very noble and they show great amounts of integrity. In the beginning
of [Act 4 scene 1] Gloucester has decided to end his own life. Edgar, knowing his father s intentions,

  • 2. Shostakovich s Contribution to Soviet Propaganda In the year 1922, after a long and bloody civil war, the Soviet Union was officially formed. After World War II, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, USSR, established itself as one of the world s superpowers, opposite of the United States of America. The Communist regime reigned over the Soviet Union until 1990, shortly before the Soviet Union collapsed and was formally dissolved in December of 1991. However, during that reign, many rules and regulations were imposed on all aspects of life, including music. Many musicians were denounced because their music did not conform to the Soviet regulations. Some fled the country. Others stayed to fight for the right to compose freely. Those who stayed had to walk a fine line, balancing their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1928, Stalin implemented the First Five Year Plan, which was meant to guide the economy into rapid industrialization. As a result, in 1928, collective farms were established all over the country, in an attempt to increase food supply for urban communities and raw materials. However, famine once again ravaged the state, causing the deaths of millions. Starting in 1936 and continuing until 1938, Stalin orchestrated a series of campaigns of political repression and persecution, sentencing over a million people to forced labor camps, known as Gulags, or to be executed. This became known as The Great Purge, or The Great Terror. Stalin revealed the new Soviet Constitution in 1936. In 1939, the Treaty of Non Aggression between Germany and the Soviet Union was signed in Moscow. The secret details of this non aggression pact divided eastern Europe in to German and Soviet spheres of influence. As a result, on September 1st and 17th, Poland was invaded by Germany and the Soviet Union. The Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania were annexed by the USSR. Finland, which according to the pact fell in the Soviet sphere of influence, resisted diplomatic tries to move back it s border, thus resulting in the Winter War, in which the Finns ceded portions of Karelia to the Soviet Union. On June 22nd, 1941, Germany broke the non aggression pact and invaded the Soviet Union III. World War II The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How William Shakespeare And Carol Ann Duffy s Subverting... Olivia Daly 12HG T.S Eliot Prize Essay 14 October 2017 How do William Shakespeare and Carol Ann Duffy subvert traditional roles of gender and sexuality in From Mrs Tiresias and Sonnet 20 ? Both Carol Ann Duffy in From Mrs Tiresias and William Shakespeare in Sonnet 20 subvert male gender roles by presenting the male protagonists with physical female traits. Both poets differ in their presentation of traditional gender roles and sexuality. In From Mrs Tiresias , Carol Ann Duffy subverts the gender role of men as strong masculine men, playing on the modern stereotype that men are unable to cope with the monthly trials and tribulations of being a woman. She tells us that he had to have One week in bed. Two doctors in. Three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare has a highly misogynistic view of women, saying that their hearts are acquainted With shifting change , their eyes are false in rolling and he also talks about women being false implying deceit and an artificial façade. At the culmination of the rhyming couplet, Shakespeare comically tops his damning excoriation of women by telling us that thy love s use their treasure , insinuating that women just want one little thing rather than a soul to love endlessly. This is not subverting the traditional Elizabethan stereotype of women. By contrast, Duffy subverts these gender roles of women by highlighting that men can also act up to Shakespeare s Elizabethan stereotype, just like Mr Tiresias is seen doing in From Mrs Tiresias . He is metaphorically prostituting himself; he is seen entering glitzy restaurants on the arms of [multiple] powerful men and while we are sure this is not for sexual advances, Duffy highlights the superficial nature of Mr Tiresias quest for notoriety. We have a complete juxtaposition between each poet and the reinforcement of gender stereotypes of the gender opposite their own; Shakespeare is renouncing women and thus highlighting the loyalty and dependability of men by using the pitfalls of women to celebrate the qualities of the Fair Youth i.e the man he is revering by contrast, whereas Duffy is repudiating men and accentuating the patience, kindness and supportiveness of women (Mrs Tiresias is holding his new soft ... There were four countries (A, B, C, and D) that were represented. I was a part Country B. We had three members in our group, and we were just relaxing at the beginning of the group assignment. Moments later, after the assignment was announced, we got into our groups and headed to the other side of the room with the other countries. • 6. Herbal Medicine Vs. Herbal Medicines A natural drug because it is derived from nature is beginning to emerge at a faster rate and is known as the alternative medicine or herbal medicines. Botanical medicine or Herbalism is another way of describing the strict use of plants or plant extracts that may be ingested or applied to the skin to treat illness and assist the bodily functions (Herbalism). Pharmaceutical drugs are said to be inevitable, but so are their symptoms, side effects and harmful substances used to produce them. These days herbal medicine is marketed aggressively across the world, so it s a good time to take a look at why this is, and what advantages herbal medicine can offer over prescription drugs. Herbal remedies are gradually becoming more accepting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So we automatically think, oh, they were not supposed to take these drugs or they abused the substance, wrong, the patients are not the ones at fault and neither are the doctors, people are following the directions, the bolded print on the back and the prescriptions given, but are still dying. Sadly, this is occurring because doctors simply are unable to know how every single one of our bodies reacts to a certain medicine causing different symptoms and side effects and some unable to withhold the prescripted amount. This is exactly why people avoid pharmaceutical drugs, they are dangerous, unpredictable, and at times fatal. Herbal medicines are a newer face to medicine, but have already met the standards and exceeded the expectations of pharmaceutical drugs because you are unable to overdose on a plant, and no synthesized chemicals are included with these because it is 100% derived from nature and these medicines only turn symptom filled and fatal when the scientists get their hands on them. Nature is our friend and so are herbal remedies. Along with the synthesized chemicals used to produce these drugs they fail in the category of availability as well. • 7. Great West Description The Great West The western United States is amazing. My parents took my family and I out west when I young. The Great West was a sensational place, I have seen many sensational places with great majestic sites. There are 2 places that I preferred. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Big Sur, California. I was very excited for this road trip, because it was the first time I did something on my own. My vehicle was a shiny Black Toyota Celica. It contained a smell of ocean breezes, and cigarettes in the interior of the car. The sun was bright and the sky dark baby blue. It was cold that day and windy. The humidity was high and when the wind would blow it was freezing. In addition, I began my trip West, I was earnest about this trip. Next, I noticed things changing rapidly. The first 1500 miles was boring. After that, I was driving through Kansas. It started to look, feel, and even smell different. Kansas is a long state to drive across. They always discuss factors like teachers, curriculums, friends, and sports but when it comes down to it, a child is made into the person they will be in the future by their parents or guardians. Dr. Gail Gross, a nationally recognized family, child development, and human behavior expert, says, At the end of the day, parents must parent you must be what you want to see. • 11. Public Schools Should Not Be The Place For Religious... One of the many foundations of the United States as a nation was religion. When people fled their homes in search of a new place, one of the many reasons was due to religious freedom. Almost immediately conflicts arose between religions, and their belief systems. No problems seem to arise with teaching religion to children in school until the 1900 s. That is when the courts decided religious instructions in public schools would be deemed unconstitutional. Court cases started around the country with people fighting against religious instruction in public schools, many accusing teachers of putting their beliefs in their teachings. The young, and impressionable minds of children should not be exposed to another persons religious beliefs because they can easily be swayed in a certain direction. This is why religious practices, such as prayer, and the teachings of creationism should not be allowed in public schools. Public schools should not be the place for religious practices for many reasons. Firstly, there a several different ways in which having those practices in public schools goes against the Constitution, and the Establishment Clause, which does not allow public schools to endorse any religion. Secondly, as children are minors in age, so are their minds. Children can easily be swayed in a certain direction if they witness an authority figure expressing a certain belief. Over the last ten years Bravo s The Real Housewives Of franchise has grown into somewhat of a phenomenon. This began in 2006 with the release of The Real Housewives of Orange County which followed the lives of a group of affluent women living in Southern California as they went about their daily life. Following the world wide success of the original show six follow up series have since been created, all following the same premise but set in different cities across America. These series follow the lives of women who live in gated communities and creates drama in discovering what is hidden behind said gates. The very title of the show itself is interesting as taking into consideration the women in which the series revolve around, The Real Housewives appears to be a somewhat paradoxical name. Although some of the women in the show are married and live within the domestic sphere, the majority of women have successful careers out with the home and a significant number of them are no longer married or have never been so. This raises the question, why are women who are not housewives represented as being so? What does this say about the portrayal of married and indeed of single women within popular culture? Usually, family members communicate with each other, and having similar communication with pets is part of viewing them as family. Pets respond through vocalizations and gestures, which are understood by their owners, sometimes in special ways. Some people prefer the intimate communication they share with their pet over conversations with humans. There are different levels of affection and respect that people have for their pets, but the term family members is used quite often. Cohen (2002) explores this trend in three different ways: (a) Pets are like human family; (b) pets are part of a broader social network system but not family; (c) pets are family members only in a linguistically playful way. Whether people joke about their pets as children or not, the idea of companion animals as specific kin or generic family members is becoming much more accepted in western cultural systems, and we have to pay much more attention to it. If we do not recognize the intense emotional bonds people have with animals, we risk damaging both the human and the pet s well being when they are forced to separate for various reasons (housing, illness, family disputes). • 32. Cinderella Story Analysis Since its first telling, this story has been loved and enjoyed by people all around the world. It s popularity high and it s variations money, the Cinderella story is appreciated by children and adults alike. However, as time has passed and values changed, these variations have become more divisive. Many American parents have trouble allowing their children to read them when much of the material they disagree with. This not only puts them in a difficult position with their children but also with the many other parents who see no problem allowing their children to read and enjoy these tales. The parents unhappy with the contents of the tale often find problems with the way in which the stepmother is presented. For example, in The Wicked Stepmother a story from India, the author writes of the stepmother, She at once took a dislike to them, and treated them unkindly and gave them little food (The Wicked Stepmother 614). It is very common for the stepmother to have no redeeming qualities in these stories which the parents find problematic. In today s world, there are many combined families that believe it is a bad idea to cause children to fear their stepmothers. They also disapprove of the way the story continues the negative stereotype of the wicked stepmother which harms both stepmothers and their stepchildren. The parents who find no problem with the story have a different perspective on the stepmother s role. In their opinion, the use of the stepmother as the antagonist is important to the story and children s understanding of it. Children have not developed deeper, more complex fears yet. Their fears are more simplistic and base level. For most children their lives revolve around home and family, this makes the idea of an evil stepmother something especially scary to them because like Cinderella they wouldn t be able to leave a situation like that on their own. For many children it takes time to be able to empathize with others. So, making the villain something simplistic that relates to something they would personally be afraid of raises the stakes for them and makes it easier for the child to put him or herself into the character s shoes or glass slippers in this case. • 34. Peter Pan Reflection Altering Tink Sam Taylor (CEO), once said, If we aren t willing to change and keep up with innovation someone else will. If someone isn t motivated to move forward and create new ideas, there will be someone else that will succeed in their place. People need change sometime, or their lives would be dull, static, and boring. Change is crucial to a person s life to show dynamic differences in their characteristics. It is important for people to be flexible and open minded in different experiences to handle future circumstances. Change is the key to determine one s future. In J.M. Barrie s Peter Pan, the character Tinker Bell is dynamic as illustrated by her words, actions, and motivations. To start, Tinker Bell is shown to be dynamic depicted through her unkind words. An example of this from the book is when Tink treats Wendy offensively by calling her ugly: He had to translate. She is not very polite. She says you are a great ugly girl, and that she is my fairy (Barrie 27). Tinker Bell is shown to be uncivil and boorish towards Wendy by calling her ugly. As a perfect antagonist, she creates tension and suspense in the story with her threats towards Wendy. Without remorse, Tink doesn t even apologize to Wendy. With this type of behavior, she shows her nasty side, her lack of concern for her feelings, and how she may have hurt them. However, while Tinker Bell expressed in words, her more cruel side, being churlish towards Wendy, that doesn t represent her whole self. Next, Tinker Bell illustrates her dynamic self through her actions towards other characters, like Peter. For instance, when Tink plays the role of protagonist towards Peter by saving his life: No time for words now; time for deeds;and with one of her lightning movements Tink got between his lips and the draught, and drained it to the dregs (121). Tink flew in front of Peter s lips before he could drink the poison knowing it could kill either Peter or herself depending on who drank it. Tinker Bell shows a caring and selfless side through an action that could kill her, but her love for Peter was so strong, she had no choice. This makes her a protagonist. All in all, she was Peter s hero that night, and this explains how Tink is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The generation gap in King Lear by Shakespeare One of the underlying themes in Shakespeare s play, King Lear is the concept of the generation gap. This gap is mainly illustrated between the family. The older generation is Lear himself, and the younger generation consists of his daughters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia. In the second plot of the play, Gloucester represents the older generation, and his sons, Edmund and Edgar exemplifies the younger generation. Both younger generations can be divided into two distinct groups. Goneril, Regan and Edmund are the villains in both the plots and Edgar and Cordelia are the loyal, faithful children. Upon showing this letter to the gullible Gloucester, he ordered to have a contract out for Edgar s head. The daughters Goneril and Regan are inspired by their hunger for power and their lust for Edmund. Once Goneril and Regan received their land, they immediately showed no respect to Lear, who gave them the land. In [Act 1 scene 4] Goneril instructs her servant Oswald to show utter disrespect for Lear. Oswald complies and enrages Lear. Soon Lear will find that his two daughters have no loyalties to him. As it turns out, there is no loyalties within each other. In [Act 5 scene 3] Goneril has poisoned her own sister, in hopes of capturing Edmund s love.
