Fog Pathway
The Fog pathway drives actin and myosin apical constriction
In developmental biology an important objective is to understand how cells behave to shape tissues
that produce highly organized embryos. Epithelial morphogenesis is a process driven by actin and
myosin apical constriction that results in sheets of cells rearranging to form defined structures. The
Drosophila Folded in gastrulation (Fog) pathway is one of the best developmental signaling
pathways in demonstrating this process. During gastrulation, the epithelial cells undergo a range of
morphogenetic mechanisms to form the ventral furrow (VF) and the posterior midgut (PMG). This
process begins with Dorsal, a maternal factor, activating Twist and Snail transcription factors which
in turn activates the transcription of the secreted ligand Fog that is a zygotic factor expressed in
presumptive mesoderm and posterior midgut primordium. Fog in turn activates Concertina (Cta), a
GО±12/13 homologue through an unknown membrane receptor that leads to the activation of
RhoGEF, which is recruited to the apical membrane by T48 protein. RhoGEF2 then activates Rho1,
a small GTPase, activating the Rho pathway and its components such as Rho kinase (Rok), non
muscle myosin II, and actin, leading to apical constriction and actin myosin based cell shape ...

(2013) developed a novel functional genomic approach by reconstituting the epithelial folding
pathway in a cell based assay. From S2 cells, S2R+ cells that contracted in response to Fog were
engineered. The S2R+ cells did not contract during RNAi mediated depletion of proteins in the
pathway, such as Cta, RhoGEF2, or Rho1, indicating that the pathway has been reconstructed in
these cells. The Fog receptor mist was identified by performing a targeted RNAi screen in the
S2R+ cells and individually depleting 138 GPCRs in the Drosophila genome. The S2R+ cells that
do not exhibit contraction to Fog therefore contained the

Forgiveness In The Tempest
According to a recent research done in the Fetzer Institute of Psychology, 58% of the American
population has admitted to have held grudge. The theme of forgiveness, nevertheless, is a topic
that has been widely discussed before for instance, in William Shakespeare s play, The Tempest.
In the play, Prospero, an exiled duke who has been betrayed by his own brother, receives an
opportunity to fulfill his indignation as those who deceived him approach the island on which he
settled. He conducts a plan which involves dark magic, to avenge their deeds, hoping to ultimately
cause the death of the treacherous. In the first scene of the fifth act, his loyal servant, Ariel,
described the condition of the hostages whereas Prospero evaluated the extent... Show more content

His assurance in his tempest is disturbed once again, and consequently he calls Ariel nothing but air,
a touch, a feeling (V.i.17). Prospero s partially condescending attitude towards his servant,
represented in this statement by the repetition of synonyms, is caused by the initial understanding
of his mistakes. He is not capable of confronting this truth and hence strengthens himself through
the humiliation of Ariel, while internally admitting his poignant deeds. This portrays that
forgiveness is the ultimate solution; as difficult as it is to reach it. He then states that the rarer
action is in virtue than in vengeance (V.i.17). These two words, one of the most contrasted pairs
of words in the English language, are put under the same context. The alliteration of the letter V in
this statement signifies that the both virtue and vengeance are optional, and it is utterly under one
s responsibility and personal choice which one to espouse. Virtue is listed first because of its
vitality to the human society. As a conclusion of this process, Prospero addresses Ariel once more;
Go release them Ariel (V.i.25). The phrasing which resembles a command, demonstrates Prospero s
attempts to be fair, despite the enormous pressure under which he is put. Referring to his first
metaphor, he indirectly explains that Prospero is now released out of the strife of revenge which
has taken control of his

Standard Deduction
Introduction
Standard deduction is a provision of the United States federal income tax system, which serves two
purposes including a least amount amount of untaxed income, thus acting as an ingredient of
progressivity. Second, it provides a simplified alternative to the itemized deductions for tax payers
with comparatively low itemizable expenses, thus relieving them of the record keeping and
computational burden of itemizing deductions. Having one provision is a compromise to other but
it is a compromise that is unnecessary. (Samansky, 1991)
A base sum of income that is not focused to tax and that can be used to decrease a taxpayer s
adjusted gross income (AGI), a standard deduction can only be used if the taxpayer does not
prefer the itemized deduction method of calculating taxable income. The sum of the standard
deduction is based on a taxpayer s filing status, age and whether he or she is disabled or claimed
as a reliant on another person s tax return.
The major reason taxpayers exercise standard instead of itemized deductions is that taxpayers don
t have to keep track of every potential tax deductible expense throughout the year. Plus, a lot of
people find the standard deduction amount to be fairly generous and usually greater than the total
they could reach if they added up all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People often overlook or fail to record allowable tax deductions and keep their approach only for
the standard amount specified by the IRS. For instance, homeowners often pay more interest and
real estate tax than the standard deduction permits. Also, small business owners who have a running
home office often can incur additional tax deductions higher than the standard amount. Taxpayers
must keep accurate records along with actual receipts to itemize deductions. Failure to do this
makes the standard deduction a advantage but also may cost you a lot of money in tax

Narrative Literature Reviews
Narrative literature reviews
Introduction
nA literature review is a comprehensive study and interpretation of the work that has been
published on a particular topic n A literature review should convey the knowledge and ideas that
have been established on a topic and their strengths and limitations
Why undertake a literature review? n To provide a review of the current knowledge in a particular
field n Provide a description of research studies n Identify gaps in current knowledge n Identify
emerging theoretical issues n Identify theories relevant to your chosen topic n Allow studies to be
compared and contrasted n Learn about the practice experience of others n Become informed about

Student activity n In your groups identify the search terms that you would use to search for
appropriate literature. n What search frame/parameters would you use?
Selecting literature n Your selection: n Does not have to be exhaustive (you do not have to find or
reference everything that has been written on the topic) n You must include however, the most
important related studies (seminal or key work and/or authors that everyone else writing about the
topic seems to refer to. You should also read them yourself!) n Must be up to date n Must not rely
solely on secondary sources n (Bryant et al 2003)
Evaluating the literature n When drawing on published research for your review you must have
read the report critically n You do not need to summarise the whole report in your review, just
provide enough description so that its relevance to your argument is clear and that any criticisms
you have make sense n (Bryant et al 2003)

An Investigation into the Factors Affecting the Rate of the Reaction between Calcium Carbonate
and Hydrochloric Acid
A chemical reaction is the process by which atoms or groups of atoms are redistributed, resulting in
a change in the molecular composition of substances. The reaction rate is how quickly a reaction
occurs and this can be affected by four different factors:
ВЎВ¤changing the surface area of any solids involved
ВЎВ¤changing the concentration of reactants in solution
ВЎВ¤changing the temperature at which it is carried out
ВЎВ¤the use of a catalyst
I am going to investigate into exactly how one of these variables affects the reaction rate and I
believe the most suitable variable to change is the concentration of the solution as all ... Show more

In order to make my experiment safe I will wear goggles and an overall when I handle the acid
as it is corrosive and if any came in contact with my skin during the experiment I would wash it
off immediately. As I described above, my experiments will be fair as it will be performed under
the same conditions, with hopefully only the concentration of acid being altered for each
experiment.
The equipment should be set up as shown in the diagram below:
The small marble chip will be placed in the conical flask first and then the hydrochloric acid will be
poured into the flask and as soon as all the acid is in I will start the stop clock and put the bung on
the flask. I will then watch the pencilled cross from and above and stop the clock at the exact
moment that I can no longer see the circle. I will record this time in my results table and then set up
the experiment for the next measurement.
Modifications following preliminary experiment
For my trial experiment, I placed one small marble chip in 50cm Гё of 1 molar hydrochloric acid
and timed how long it took before a pencilled cross was no longer visible under a conical flask
containing 10cm Гё of limewater. Although the limewater began to turn cloudy eventually, it took
more than 10 minutes to do so and I believe there were a few reasons for this.

Light And Sugar Hypothesis
Analysis:
When evaluating the result from this investigation it is evident that the sugar light is the most
effective mix, based on the aspect of the plants grown by them. The Prediction in the hypothesis
was correct as the plant that grew the largest amount was the plant with both sugar and light,
however the statement that light was more valuable than sugar was shown to be incorrect. The first
prediction was clearly correct, as it can clearly be seen by comparing table (t, 1) and table (T, 6)
that the plant with sugar and light grew on average by .53cm in height while the one with only
sugar lost on average 1.66 cm in height, the plant with just light lost on average .33cm in height
and the plant with no sugar and no light grew only 2 cm in height. The factor of the amount of
roots that grew completely support the hypothesis as the roots of the plant that had sunlight and
sugar, as can clearly be seen by comparing (t, 1) and (t, 6) went up by 5 roots while the plant with
only sugar on average gained .66 roots, the plant with just light on average only gained 2.66 roots
and the plant with no sugar and no light on average gained 2 roots. This data also supports the
hypothesis that light is more important than sugar as the plants with light grew more root than the

abortion as he argues in his paper Roe V. Wade must be overturned . Roe and wade is a federal

abortion. It became decided simultaneously with an associate case, Doe v. Bolton. The court ruled

women decision to have an abortion. However that this proper need to be balanced in opposition to
the state s two legitimate intentions in regulating abortions: protective women s health and

A Rebuttal to E. R. Dodds On Misunderstanding the Oedipus Rex
In On Misunderstanding the Oedipus Rex, E. R. Dodds takes issue with three different opinions
on Oedipus Rex. I consider the first two opinions, which Dodds gleaned from student papers, to be
defensible from a close reading of the text. The first of these opinions is that Oedipus was a bad
man, and was therefore punished by the gods; Dodds counters that Sophocles intended for us to
regard him as good, noble, and selfless. But the play would seem to indicate that Oedipus, while a
clever man, is not a good one this can be shown through Dodds own source of argument, the
attitude of the chorus, as well as through Oedipus own actions onstage. Oedipus does not, as Dodds

However, the driving force of Oedipus fact finding mission is an attempt to end the plague
which racks his city. He does not realize the personal consequences his hunt will have for him,
and his loyalty to the truth (23) is based on his ignorance of it. In fact, if we examine the events
leading up to Oedipus revelation, the incidental nature of his quest for identity becomes
apparent. First, he summons Tiresias to name the killer, whom Oedipus does not at the time
believe to be himself. Then a messenger arrives from Corinth, unbidden by the king, revealing
that Oedipus is not truly Polybus son. Finally, the shepherd reveals all of Oedipus past, after
having been called for the purpose of providing more information about Laius death. The
coincidental nature of these events is somewhat at odds with Dodds vision of Oedipus as a sort
of Greek private detective who relentlessly ferrets out clues in a self destructive search for his
parents. Oedipus is eager to find the truth, but the most pivotal witnesses for the true story of his
birth either come to him of their own volition, or are convened by Oedipus in the hopes that they
will tell him something entirely different. In the end, he resigns himself to the truth which would
have been clear much earlier (as it was to Jocasta), had he

Education As A Motif In Shelley And Dickens
Education as a motif in Shelley and Dickens
Charles Dickens and Mary Shelley lived during the time of the Industrial Revolution. It was a time
of improvement and change that not everybody agreed was good. Charles Dickens Great
Expectations and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein both incorporate the reception of this change in their
respective novels. With change there comes a learning process of how all new inventions can
become part of life and how society is supposed to be. Furthermore, both authors chose education as
a motif for portraying not only the change in education but also the fear that comes with this New
Age .While Shelley lived and wrote at the rather beginning of the Industrial Revolution, Dickens
work gives the reader impressions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robin Gilmore writes in his article The Pursuit of Gentility about Dickens writing skills and his
way of describing the upperclass without really having been born into it. Dickens was able to
incorporate his experience into his novel Great Expectations when he describes the character Pip
and how he wants to become a gentleman (Gilmore 576 582). Furthermore, Gilmore adds an
important argument when he talks about the Victorian age and how people may be able to work
themselves up to higher classes but never manage to become equals to those who were born a
gentleman . Classes of that time were slowly merging together and this is the real reason why
Pip was able to reach his status of a gentleman in the end. However, people of that time were still
aware of the discrepancy between classes and were afraid of losing their status as wealthy and
understood people of upper class. Pip s guardian Mr. Jaggers once claims that you have to have a
certain education, knowledge and behavior in order to become accepted as a member of the
upper class, It is considered that you must be better educated in accordance with your altered
position, and that you will be alive to the importance and necessity of at once entering on that
advantage (Dickens 110). This shows that education has a huge impact on what you become.
However, more importantly, the family you are born into decides whether or not you will have the
privilege of receiving this education of higher standards. Pip is surrounded by a multi layered
society that influences him throughout his life. All the circumstances of ongoing change in society
as well as technology etc. have a huge

Essay On Dopamine
Taking a look inside of the basal ganglia specifically within the substantia nigra and ventral
tegmental space, the production of dopamine occurs. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that effects
provide both excitatory and inhibitory responses with axon networks. Within the substantia nigra
amino acids known as tyrosine reacts with tyrosine hydroxylase in order to produce L Dopa which
is then reacted with L Dopa decarboxylase in order to finally produce dopamine. Once produced
dopamine has been found responsible for initiating movement, helpful in attention and learning.
Therefore, the synthesis of dopamine occurs within the substantia nigra, but this is only where the
cell bodies are located. The neurons project onto the ventral tegmental area... Show more content on

Unfortunately, when this hyperactivity occurs and Dopamine continuously binds to D2 receptors
thendopamine acts to cause schizophrenic type behaviors. It has been thought that such a
hyperactivity, which can cause hallucination are the primary reason for schizophrenia but in recent
studies there may be other factors that cause schizophrenia. These factors are still unclear.
However, for now tyrosine an amino acid is converted into L Dopa which then is converted into
dopamine. Dopamine is then released into a synapse which can influence an individuals thought
processes specifically it can cause one to experience severe hallucinations a and delusions of people
and objects that do not exist ultimately linking dopamine and schizophrenia. However it should be
known that the Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia is currently being disputed but for now the
scientific community believes that schizophrenia may be caused by hyperactivity of dopamine
likely due to the inability to inactivate and reuptake dopamine in the synapse and repeated binding
to D2

The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood
The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood Middle Childhood is the name given for
the age division from 6 to 11 years of a child s life. They are also known as the school years.
During this time a child s health, education, and emotional well being are all undergoing changes.
Though not as drastic as the changes they will soon face in adolescence, they are steady, and the
impact that nature and nurture will have on these aspects reach far and wide across the many
developments they face in their lives. Heath is of the utmost importance in raising a child, and is the
biggest factor of a child s physical development in middle childhood. When a child is receiving the
proper nutrition he or she needs, they grow at the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With healthy children physical activity and exercise is key, and there are many forms of it,
such as sports, physical education, and rough and tumble play. A dominance hierarchy is
established through rough and tumble play. Through this activity, it becomes clear who is the
stronger child, which is a way in which nature helps define who is the leader in a group friends,
and who would win, should a conflict arise. Rough and tumble play is common in school
recesses, where children are developing cognitively. If a child has been to preschool before,
chances are, they ll be ahead of the curve a bit when learning to solve problems, and learning
how to read and write. This is another major way in which nurture has its effects on a child s
outcome in development. If a child has received enough attention, and has been read to, then
they are perfectly ready to solve problems rationally, in an organized way. While at this point it is
mostly up to the child to engage in memory strategies like rehearsal, and organization, it is also
up to the parents to impose the proper discipline to make sure that their child uses a part of their
time after school to use these strategies to help them study for a test. If a child is raised in a low
SES environment, where they may be left home alone, for a length of time after they ve arrived
home from school, the child may be watching TV or doing something else while unsupervised.

The Importance Of Fanatic Discipline In Nursing
As look to the future, I become excited about the possibilities that lay ahead. I was captured by
Collins with these words, We cannot predict the future. But we can create it (p.1). Great by
Choice, then became something of an obsession. I began to dissect and examine myself and my
gifts and talents to determine where my strengths lay, and weaknesses could be improved. I
examined how I could become of better service, exercise humility and leadership more
effectively and how I could share my passions with others. I suggest that if I could accomplish
these goals, I would indeed feel as fulfilled. As I continued my inward journey, I devoured the
subsequent chapters where I felt continued to be reassured. Fanatic Discipline is described by
Collins consistency with regard to values, long term goals, performance standards and
consistency over time. He goes on to remind us that regimentation is not the same as discipline
and to a 10Xer the only discipline is self discipline (p.21). In the medical profession, the best
nurses learn to triage when it comes to patient care. This means, to determine the priority of the
patients treatment based on the severity of condition of each individual. This is especially
important when handling crisis situations and requires fanatic discipline. Lack of monomaniacal
focus in medicine can result in the loss of life. I would suggest that in our day to day professional
and personal lives 10Xers, must be able to triage according to which

The Botany Of Desire Summary
Potato: Control
Sweetness, beauty, intoxication, and control. These are the four topics of desire that Michael
Pollan talks about within his memoirs in The Botany of Desire. All four desires are told through
powerful euphemisms in relation to plants that we have come to know as domesticated. In regards
to our modern relationship with plants, the apple, tulip, marijuana, and potato are perhaps some of
our most treasured allies. This could not be truer than that relationship in which we have with the
potato. That relationship has lasted for thousands of years, and its genetic makeup has been the
conversation of many farmers around the world. The potatoes birthplace with the Incans proved to
be a time of high biodiversity with thousands of varieties. However, through the act of monoculture
with Europeans, and a need to feed a growing population, the potato has experienced a decrease in
the amount of varieties that are cultivated.

Traditional agriculture, however, wasn t done with monoculture. Incans proved that a diversity of
potatoes, when farmed the right way, yielded higher harvests. Diversity is the argument for non
traditional, or non monoculture farming; diversity in species and methods. When faced with a
deadly virus or disease, a whole monoculture can simply die out. This was the problem with Irish
potatoes, which forced the largest emigration of recent memory. What s more, is that today s
monocultures are chemically treated in such a way to avoid the problem that plagued the Irish.
Soil, in all of its natural life giving diversity, has become barren, unable to support any type of crop
without the intensive additions of fertilizers and with them, chemicals. Harvested food has become
unsafe to eat unless treated again, with more chemicals. It s easy to see that monocultures are may
not be the best solution that is needed for a hungry

Socrates and Civil Obecience or Disobedience
Essay: A Discussion on whether or not I believe that Socrates views in the Crito contradict his

My position: I am in disagreement with this statement and my analysis, based on contextual
evidence, is as follows:
Although I could argue the question posited above from either position, as many have done before
and, as many will continue to do after me, I do not believe that Socrates waivers in his beliefs
between the two accounts according to Plato. The contradiction, it seems, focuses on whether or
not Socrates is a proponent of civil (dis)obedience, and the apparent conflict between the two

To further bolster his position, Socrates does not fail to point out to the jury that these other men
are applauded for doing such service to the city of Athens when he states, Each of these men can
go to any city and persuade the young, who can keep company with any one of their own fellow
citizens they want without paying.......pay them a fee, and be grateful to them besides (Apology
19e 20a). Since there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been
accused of these crimes, Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up
charges, and attempting to have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d).

side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the
above mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my
belief that Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in
question. In a passage located in (19a) of the Apology, Socrates not only refutes the charges
against him regarding his proported atheism but summarily solidifies his position as one who
clearly is concerned with obeying the law. In this passage he states, Even so, let the matter
proceed as the god may wish, but I must obey the law and make my defense. In yet another
example, Socrates describes a situation in the past where he served as a member of the council,

Essay on Adoption as an Option for Infertile Women
Imagine getting married to the love of your life, knowing from the day that you first laid eyes on
him that he was the one that was going to father the children that you would have in the coming
years. Three months after having the wedding of your dreams, you find out you are pregnant
after two years of trying to conceive and you could not be happier. Celebrating with friends and
family eager to share with them the good news that you were expecting a miracle after almost
giving up, you are jubilant. After trying for so long and succeeding? (I don t know what word I
want to put there yet) nothing could possibly go wrong. In the following days, you have come to

Some of the underlying issues with fertility treatments are that some couples have to repeat the
whole process of treatments two to three times before the treatment works. Many times, couples are
left having to spend tens of thousands of dollars. The outcome from in vitro fertilization varies from
couple to couple. A big concern for the sergeant mother is that it can sometimes cost more than an
adoption. Having another woman carry your baby is stressful, you don t know the life they live
behind closed doors, or what they are putting into their body, it is hard to determine if your baby
is out of harms way. And, when looking into adoption the biggest question is to choose

Rural Communities And The Homeless Population
Rural communities struggle to provide healthcare and shelter for the homeless population. The lack
of public visibility of families in shelters receiving services that can assist with housing, adequate
healthcare, and humane support to overcome the bias of homelessness in Bemidji Minnesota
remains dismal. The notion of being out of sight in a temporary shelter leads to marginalization of
these families as a unit of care. Rural communities must find mechanisms within healthcare to bring
further assistance to vulnerable families to support the family bond.

include the lack of healthcare providers willing to care for this population and funds available to
provide services. Traditionally, shelters were temporary overnight accommodations for individuals,
now shelters see higher rates of young children accompanied by a single or both parents for
extended stays. This paper will look at rural family homelessness healthcare and offer a perspective

Strawberry Guava And Its Impact On Hawaii
Strawberry guava, Psidium cattleianum Sabine, is valued by the general public of Hawaii for its
ornamental, straight, red bark and fleshy fruit, which is frequently prepared into jams, jellies,
juices, cakes, and pastries. However, due to false advertising and commercialization, guava as well
as coffee, macadamia, passion fruit, and pineapples are seen as icons of Hawaii, yet they aren t
native to Hawaii. Even though these species aren t native to Hawaii, coffee, macadamia, passion
fruit, and pineapples do not pose a serious threat to the native ecosystems of Hawaii, like the

cattleianum, is a highly invasive species that damages native Hawaiian forests, ecosystems, and the
watershed, which can be managed through mechanical, chemical, and biological controls. In its
native homeland of southeastern Brazil, the strawberry guava is limited, unlike Hawaii, where it
forms monotypic stands that displace native Hawaiian flora and fauna and drive these indigenous,
endemic, and endangered species towards extinction. Strawberry guava contributes further to the
displacement of native Hawaiian forests by providing nourishment to feral pigs and mice that feed
on native Hawaiian flora and fauna. Besides displacement of native Hawaiian species, strawberry
guava puts humans at risk through increased erosion and soil runoff as well as hosting fruit flies
that cause large scale damage to crops. Mechanical and chemical controls were used to manage P.
cattleianum, however they require a lot of time, labor, and money, yet the strawberry guava prevails
majority of the time. The State has recently introduced a biocontrol, T. ovatus, which is host
specific to P. cattleianum and not its commercially significant cousin, P. guajava, nor any native
Hawaiian plants. Although the T. ovatus will not kill the strawberry guava, the T. ovatus will
inhibit the growth of new foliage and fruit formation. With the introduction of T. ovatus and
increased public awareness of the effects of strawberry guava, P. cattleianum can be controlled and

Moulin Rouge Analysis
Additionally, the film is a love song to spectacle, to all forms of spectacle, including cabaret,
opera, musical comedy, dance, to theater, and, of course, film. As Stuckey points out, the cabaret
acts, especially the (in)famous can can, but also the drama Spectacular Spectacular , provide
frenetic musical numbers for Moulin Rouge! that serve to amaze the audience. The can can
dance is a flurry of legs and petticoats thrown up in the air, edited with a fast pace to convey the
excitement Christian is feeling when he enters the Moulin Rouge. These elements successfully
elicit the filmmaker s desired emotion within me. When Satine first appears in the film during
her burlesque routine, the crowd is in awe, staring up at her like she is an angel coming down
from heaven. When she performs in the Moulin Rouge, the crowd instantly recognizes her and
cheers. Their reactions give the film s audience an idea of how to feel about Satine and how to
react when we see her come onscreen. As the audience cheers, I too found myself wanting to cheer
for her. Therefore, I feel I enjoyed these scenes as the movie literally queued how I should respond.
I feel these well placed queues heighten my enjoyment, especially during the ensemble numbers and
the comedic scenes. On the topic of spectacle, the film appeals to me due to the how it conforms to
the musical genre. Throughout their history, musicals are most often conceived as pure
entertainment. Furthermore, according to Richard Dyer in

What Does George Santayana Say About History And Human Nature
George Santayana s quote from the novel The Life of Reason, volume 1 explains about history and
human nature. If you do not learn from your mistakes from the past, you will make the same
mistakes again. Progress, far from consisting in change depends on retentiveness. This means in
regards to history that progress does not depend on change but more on the ability to retain from
pastexperience. When experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Also, In
the first stage of life the mind is frivolous and easily distracted, it misses progress by failing in
consecutiveness and persistence. This two quotes explains the human nature that if you don t learn

I am ashamed of myself. Me, the so called mighty Casey, just struck out. This is how the story
went. We were down 4 2. I didn t feel confident I was going to go up to bat because of my
teammates were struggling to get on base. I looked at the crowd. They all had a look on them that
told me I was the only hope. With two outs and one more to go I felt like just packing up my stuff.
Before me was Flynn and Jimmy. With little hope that everyone had left I hung my head down in
shame that we couldn t win. Then all of sudden Flynn got a single and Jimmy crushed the ball.
This brought all of the glooming people right back up. Everyone that was watching us screamed
with all their lungs. The baseball park was filled with excitement. And now I m up, the mighty

I was nervous to go up to bat with runners on base and possibly be the leading run. But I didn t let

It was just an ordinary, lazy, Sunday morning to the thousands of military personnel at the Pearl

the people about the impending attack that was about to take place only a few short minutes away.
They were unprepared for what was about to happened. Within minutes, the Japanese planes flew

the United States of America joined the allies in what would be the beginning of a long, bloody war.

not threatened. America soil, so they thought, was safe between the shores of two gigantic oceans.
Although United States Japan relations had become increasingly strained because of Japanese

decided to meet and talk about a way to solve their differences. Japan sent a special representative
to the United States. His name was Saburo Kurusu. He joined Kichisaburo Nomuro, the Japanese

The three men had a difficult job to accomplish. The American government demanded that Japan
leave Southeast Asia and China alone and resume peaceful ways. Japan demanded that the United
States convince China to agree to Japanese terms and they also wanted the United States to trade
oil, steel, and iron to Japan again. The demands of the two countries would be difficult to reconcile,

And The Imporatance In The Gambler, By Fyodor Dostoyevsky
The Gambler and the imporatance of distinct charachters in novels
No one can deny that the psychological novel displays to the greatest extent how a variety of
different characters is important for an enjoyable read. Such is the emphasis on the internal events
and the inner mental life of its characters, that this type of the novel is probably one of a kind in
which characterization is more prominent than in all other literary genres. First examples originate
from earlier epochs, but only a few could argue whether one of the greatest representatives of this
genre was a Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky or not. Though he is best known for his other
novels, Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed and The Brothers Karamazov, this text
offers a take on characters of his fascinating short novel The Gambler which was written in 1866.
Two topics are woven within the zealously intricated storyline. The one is desperate longing for a

History Development and Construction of a Classical Guitar
Carry out study of a Classical Guitar and write a report on its history, development and construction.
The classical guitar, sometimes called the Spanish or nylon strung guitar, consists of a hollow
body made with a top, back and sides constructed from thin pieces of wood carved and shaped to
give the familiar traditional figure of eight shape. A long narrow piece of wood, called the neck, is
attached to the body at one end and has, at the other end, a headstock to which are attached six
tuning pegs, each holds one of six nylon strings which it is able to tighten or loosen, for tuning the
guitar. The six nylon strings pass over the nut, a piece of bone inserted at the end of the neck to

They are usually either Western Red Cedar obtained from the West Coasts of the USA and Canada

The top plate, cut to the traditional figure of eight shape, needs to be as thin as possible to allow
it vibrate freely, a thickness of between two and three millimetres is used (Guitarmaking,
tradition and technology, page104). Because it is a softwood it needs to be able to withstand
the pressures exerted on it by the strings and this is done by adding bracing. These are thin
wooden struts, made from the same wood as the top plate, glued to the underside in a fan shape
(see Figure 2), this bracing not only adds strength but it also controls the way it vibrates and
therefore has a big effect on the final sound. A sound hole is cut into the top plate, in a position
where it will intersect the end of the fret board at the nineteenth fret. A piece of binding is added
around the inside of the sound hole (called a rosette) primarily to keep moisture out from the cut
edge, although it has become very decorative and its design can often identify the luthier (Harry
Miller interview, September 1st 2011).

How To Achieve Homelessness In Canada
Something I would like to see changed in the Canadian public policy is to implement ways for all
Canadians to have sustainable housing. The government is for the people. Our country has more
than enough resources that none of its citizens should be without a home and homeless people
should not be viewed at or treated in another way than others. We are all human. Looking back at
chapter 1 in Staying Alive , epidemiologists were trying to convey the overall message that
inequality is bad for our health and that each individual must have the basic needs to survive. This
relates back to the issue of homelessness, as they are ones who do not have the basic needs to
survive. The most commonly used measure of inequality is that of income differences (Raphael,

Evolution, Structure, And Ultimate Fate Of Neil Degrasse...
Neil deGrasse Tyson is a contemporary astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and television host.
He is best known for starring in numerous television shows explaining the universe in terms of
physics. He states, During our brief stay on planet Earth, we owe ourselves and our descendants
the opportunity to explore in part because it s fun to do. But there s a far nobler reason. The day
our knowledge of the cosmos ceases to expand, we risk regressing to the childish view that the
universefiguratively and literally revolves around us. The universe has been a constant mystery and
challenge to humankind. Humans wish to understand what is beyond their immediate environment.
Cosmology is the study of the universe, more specifically, the origins, evolution, history, structure,
and ultimate fate. In Greek, the term cosmos means universe, which is the very foundation of the
study. Cosmology s largest critic is Creationism; thus, science and religion battle it out to discover
what is true and right in the world. The history of the universe extends past the beginning of
humankind and the following philosophers, mathematicians, and astronomers will attempt to
provide explanations of what is known today as the Great Unknown. The universe of the past was
understood to be a simple one galaxymodel that was both unchanging and immeasurable. Theories
have constantly changed and been reconstructed to better portray the progression of human
understanding over time. The cosmos began

Religion And The Nature Of God
The Nature of God is a category that always comes into question in many conversations or debates
I have seen, and listened to and participated in, this is why I have chosen this topic. Some religions

Reflection On General Psychology
Reflective Final Taking my first general psychology has been very interesting. I am ending the
semester with a lot of newly acquired knowledge about how and why our brain works the way it
does. I have chosen three out of many of the things I have learned and reflected on them deeply in
this paper. First, I will be talking about Social Categorization, which has changed my views on how
I generally perceive people. Secondly, I will discuss Stereotypevulnerability, which has brought me
to the realisation that stereotypes are more than just labels and can seriously change the way people
behave towards not only one another but with themselves. Lastly, I will discuss The Fundamental
Attribution Error, which will always cause me to think twice or even three times about how I
perceive people s actions. These topics have all been significantly mindaltering for me in ways I
will explain further in this paper. In order to understand why we perceive people the way we do,
we must think back to how we learned as infants. As infants we built schemas, which are concepts
and mental models to categorize things. This is explained by Piaget s theory of cognitive
development. When meeting new and unfamiliar experiences or people we tend to relate them to
existing memories or schemes we have already built. As we grow up and meet new people we
categorize them in hopes to understand and group together similarities and this is called Social
Categorization. It is believed that this

The Importance Of Character Education
Teachers have a vital role and their tasks are many in the classroom, they must be an educator, and a
manager of children s disruptive behavior regardless of their best efforts teachers detect students
constantly becoming off task or showing disruptive behavior; such as calling out across the room,
arguing, noncompliance, tantrums (Perle, 2016). To combat disruptive behavior researchers have
noted that character educationis a unit of the child s growth, which marks the child s tendencies
and dimensions to be in control, and allows them to have moral and self management (Lapsley
and Yeager, 2013). There has been a revival of character education, placing a strong emphasis on
the teachings of moral qualities, and has been a wide spread instructional trend the past decade.
Character education is one way some schools in a variety of communities are trying to improve
these behaviors (Davis, 2007). In addition, a well known body of research discoveries purports
that children living in impoverished areas have a more advanced risk of developing a diversity of
social, demonstrative, and behavioral problems (Armstrong, 2009; Eamon, 2001) With the aim of
developing character virtues demonstrating virtues such as compassion, bravery and thankfulness in
youth are being properly adopted into schoolcurricula in several countries (Olof Franck. 2017).

There has been much controversy over whether or not to build the Keystone XL pipeline that
would connect Canadian Alberta oil fields to refineries in Texas. The proposed pipeline, which
would be built by TransCanada, would connect two existing pipes, consisting total of around
1,700 miles of pipeline. The two sides of this argument can be roughly boiled down to two words:
environment and economy. In such turbulent times can Americans afford to pass up a so called
shovel ready project that would create jobs and cut dependence on foreign oil from unfriendly
places, or, as some would claim, is the risk of environmental mayhem too great? There is much
dispute between both sides on the actual facts of the project, and a surprising amount of... Show

The lowest estimate seems to be at 100 temporary jobs created, according to president of the
NRDA Frances Beinecke, while the highest of such estimates seems to be at around 1,000,000
jobs created according to Governor Rick Perry. Let s discard both of these numbers, they are for
our purposes useless. We should instead focus on the number that recurrences, the most which lies
at around 20,000 jobs, but where did that number come from? TransCanada itself issued a statement
that said it is poised to put 13,000 Americans to work to construct the pipeline pipefitters, welders,
mechanics, electricians, heavy equipment operators, among other jobs in addition to 7,000
manufacturing jobs that would be created across the U.S. TransCanada also cites another figure
118,000 spin off jobs that Keystone XL would create through increased business in local restaurants,
hotels and suppliers that comes from a study commissioned by the corporation. The study even
suggested that under normal oil price assumptions, the number of permanent jobs would top
250,000. There should be an amount of more permanent jobs associated with the pipeline, such as
gauge readers, emergency crews and maintenance workers that the pipeline will support over its

right market and reach them. Sometimes they failed to give them the appropriate massage. So we
have selected our target customer group and make our marketing strategy. Here we have discussed
our target group and marketing plan.
In the market the apple milk shake is very new product. Particularly in our country we have
limited milk shake and lots of dirking juice and so one. But we do not have any milk shake like
this. It can also be consider as a drinking juice. Though it is a very new product but it has a big
demand in the market. Because those drinks have no neutrality and all of them are made of
different chimerical. Those drinks are made with chemical and the flavor of that particular food
item. When the customer will get the knowledge about the product, which is cent percent natural

My Personal Note On Facebook
Slumped in my bed with my laptop is how I spend most days. A duvet, food and youtube are all
the things that make me happy nowadays. That sounds really sad I know, but I don t really see
anyone, not even family to be honest. I m home schooled and my mum is out of the house from
4:30am until 8:00pm trying to earn enough money to support the two of us. Yeah, it s a lonely
little life and yeah, it does feel very isolated.
That s why I find comfort in youtube. The videos are the most comfort I get at the moment, I mean
people are practically talking to you, and that s more than I get in real life. I don t know how to talk
to new people or make friends because I never had to, I m very shy, the only person I talk to is my
mum as we don ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are some youtubers that never fail to make me laugh, even if I m at a low, that can just make
me smile. It s kinda weird to like them for a 14 year old girl, I mean most people my age are
probably in love with Joe Sugg or Caspar Lee, Dan Howell or Phil Lester. But not me. Well, I do
love them, but the people I just can t get enough of are the Yogscast.
I don t know why, they re just hillarious and I absolutely love them. Yes sure call me a geek, a nerd
whatever but I play a lot of the games they do and never miss a new episode of anything. I ve
watched all their series at least twice.
That does sound rather sad but you have to remember I m alone with nothing to do most of the time.
I do all my maths, English, science and media studies (home) school work on my laptop, I also do
art. I sometimes do extra if I feel like I m going to be tired the next day so I can just watch
youtube videos. Yeah, I m taking my GCSEs this year as well as next year and that means that
because I m home schooled, I have to go into a school to take the exams. Not only are exams
terrifying, but going into a giant room full of strangers to do an exam is even scarier.
So, here I am, sat on my bed on a warm Monday afternoon, doing some Biology coursework. I
listened to Ed Sheerans album Multiply . I absolutely adored Ed and particularly enjoyed listening

Training Marketing Plan For Training Business Development
Concept
The Concept Phase is initiated when either the Training Product Management, Technology team,
Training Business Development Manager or Training Business Unit owner submits a request for a
new training offering or modification to an existing one.
Requests would be prioritised as defined by the Training Product Manager or Program Management
Office if part of a large organisation. Following which, the requests would be reviewed by various
stakeholders to assess the business opportunity and viability of the request in the context of
relevance to the training groups business needs and corporate strategy.
If approved, funding typically in the form of manpower would be allocated in order to undertake
the Feasibility Phase.

Which in turn will be used to design the overall specification of the offering covering module
content requirements and practical session needs. In addition other core documents, such as the
Marketing requirements, Training Infrastructure description, Sales and Training Partner
Enablement, Certification or Accreditation requirements and Training Operation updates will need
to be specified and completed.
Once these have been completed and aligned to a budget and ROI plan. They can be married to a
planning schedule and checklist which can be presented to the Stakeholders for approval. Once
approved development of the offering can commence.
Development
This is where the actual training offering and business support functional requirements are
completed and developed in preparation for release to the market. As they are developed, other
teams can work in parallel such as training instructors testing the modules and practical sessions as
they become ready.
Certification exam development questions can be undertaken on a module by module basis.
However the final compilation and validation of the exam cannot be started until all the content has
been completed and finalised, which would be catered for in the planning document.
From the business support perspective the Project Manager must ensure all core planning
documents and checklist activities are undertaken and supported accordingly. Having the training

Causes of Depression Essay
Depression is a rapidly growing mental illness that strikes millions, but they never know the cause
of this common, yet sometimes, harmful illness. If victims and potential victims knew what
caused depression, they could do more to prevent it from happening. In order to know what causes
depression, one has to know what it is. The online dictionary defines it as a condition of general
emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by
any objective reason (Dictionary: 1) .
Depression doesn t just come from one single cause, but instead, likely results from a combination
of genetic, biochemical, environmental, and psychological factors (NIMH: 1) . The National
Institute of Mental Health also goes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a general stereotype that they stay up late and sleep all day. It may seem like the fun thing to
do, but it can cause problems. Due to a lack of being able to sleep, it has an effect on functioning,
as well as leading to psychiatric disorders. In teens, depression can be caused by sleeping too
much or too little, so getting just the right amount of sleep is still ideal (Psychology Today: 1).
On a more recently noted fact, eating junk food can cause depression as well. Junk food is bad for
your weight and health, but British and French scientists also found that it causes depression.
These scientists analyzed data from 3.486 men and women by their food and mood data
(Hindustan: 1) . Each person was given a questionnaire about the food they ate. Five years later,
those same people were given a questionnaire that measured symptoms of depression. The results
showed people who ate more processed foods were depressed, compared to people who ate
healthier (Hindustan: 1).
A shocking discovery that may baffle all is that the Internet causes depression, as well. British
scientists that researched this cause said that the longer people spent online, the less likely they
were to be happy (Internet: 1) . The study also says the worst cases were both depressed and
addicted. Unfortunately, it was not clear to the scientists whether the internet caused depression or
vice versa. Because of the

The Importance Of Treatment For Bulimia Nervosa
This paper demonstrates the significance of treatment for Bulimia Nervosa as well as which way
of treatment is best for Bulimia. The purpose of this research is to analyze the best treatments for
Bulimia Nervosa. More emphasis on the question, is Bulimia Nervosa best treated with Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy or with antidepressants such as Adapin or Prozac? Furthermore, in the paper
the results will indicate the efficacy of treatment of which method of treatment is best for Bulimia.
Bulimia Nervosa is characterized by The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
as eating in a discrete period, of time (e.g., within any two hour period), and amount of food that
is definitely larger than what most individuals would eat in a similar period of time under
similar circumstances (DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA],
2013). It can also be characterized as a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode
(e.g., a feeling that one cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating) (DSM (5th
ed., [DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). Bulimia was known to be very
difficult to treat when it first was acknowledged (Hudson, Pope, Harrison Jonas, 1983). Fortunately
today it can be treated by drug or cognitive therapy. Since that time, a vast variety of treatments
have been looked into, and since then two approaches have been known to establish efficacy
(Hudson, et al.). One is cognitive behavioral therapy.

Defining the need in the problem statement creates the structure for the rest of the grant. The
first step is the assessing of the need to alleviate some of the symptoms of a systemic issue. To
do this a literature review of the previous research must be completed. This shows that as an

If you have had frequent cavities for most of your life, then your biggest fear may be that bad
oral health is in your genes and your child will live a life filled with cavities, too. While no
studies have found that children can truly inherit cavities, there are ways that cavity prone parents
can pass on their bad oral health to their children. However, the great news is that by taking the
right steps now, you can prevent this from happening. Here are two important tips for keeping
cavities to yourself and not letting your oral health affect your child s.
Know How Cavity Bacteria is Passed So You Can Stop the Cycle
If your mother had frequent cavities as well as you, then it can be easy to suspect you just have
genetically bad teeth. Parents can pass on their cavity causing oral bacteria to their children, but it
is not their DNA that causes it. Most babies are born with a healthy oral microbiome that helps
keep cavities at bay. However, a parent can pass cavity causing bacteria and alter the bacterial
makeup of a child s saliva for life just through wet kisses and the sharing of eating utensils. ... Show

Human Activity And The Environment
The Earth is dominated by human activity and the impact so far has been overwhelming. As a
species we have changed the environment more than any other species. What drives us to do this
can be blamed for success to survive and adapt in most environments. Humanity learns to take
control and use the environment to benefit from the resources there. The demand for what we want
and what we need to survive is bought by currency and controlled by society and politics. Science
wants to create easier ways to change the environment. While religion and culture try to enhance
beliefs and values among the worlds people. The Earths resource base is what makes life possible
upon it. Humans are a part of the ecosystem and need to use the same resources as everything
else. The problem is that we take a majority and pollute a fair amount in the process of taking
them. The health of the environment can be overlooked when profit is an option. Companies or
even individuals can take short cuts in doing a job and pollute the land or water. Economies are
important in our lives and it is a main driver in environment change. If it comes to money, the
question is any being made and how much does it cost to do whatever? Sometimes a regulation can
cost a company more money and will try to change the law to benefit themselves. They greatly
influence all the groups that create change and can be positive or negative. Politicians can put into
law regulations that help preserve the environment, for

Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant...
Whether the issue is a continuing problem of significant importance to society, or a relatively new
and unheard of phenomenon, public attention and activism tends to follow similar patterns of
cycling attitudes and behaviors. As Anthony Downs explains in an article written more than 30
years ago, issues regarding the environment tend to suddenly leap into prominence, remain there for
a short time, and then gradually fade from the center of public attention. He calls this process the
issue attention cycle, one of the most intriguing theories regarding environmental public opinion.
Even though this article was written in the 1970 s, Downs theory contains crucial insight into what
is currently happening with public opinion about the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an
immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the third stage of the issue attention cycle is
realizing the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the
cost of solving the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would
take a great deal of money and resources, as well as major sacrifices by large groups in the
population. This results in a realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result
from some extremely beneficial aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be
a result from the increased use of cars, so not only would cutting down on how often one drives a
car decrease this pollution, but would also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains.
For some people, sacrificing these advantages comes as no easy task, and most don t want to
sacrifice at all.
Hence, and as Downs so succinctly puts it, the previous stage almost imperceptibly transforms into
the fourth stage; the gradual decline of intense public interest. Essentially, and as more and more
people realize the difficulties and time

Exploring the Concept of Satire in A Modest Proposal by...
A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, and Top of the Food Chain by T. Coraghessan Boyle,
both are short stories that explore the concept of satire. Satire can be defined as a kind of writing
that ridicules human weakness, vice, of folly in order to bring about social reform. It is a kind of
writing to bring about change to society. Even though both are short stories, they easily get the
faults of society across to its readers. In A Modest Proposal, Swift is offering an outrageous solution
to the problems of human misery. He proposes that people should start eating babies, and using
them for everything that they are worth on a daily basis. Swift creates a pamphlet and states six
reasons as to why this is a brilliant idea. He states that money wouldn t be wasted on food, the
number of Catholics would be reduced, it would be great inducement to marriages, there would
be more food so the economy would increase, poor tenants would have money for their landlords,
and it would be an improvement for the tavern business. Swift wants everyone to know how
badly the Irish people are being treated by the English. He wants to change the reader s point of
view through this sarcastic satirical pamphlet. The authors purpose of A Modest Proposal, is to try
to change society. Swift is trying to reform the British official s involvement in Ireland. People are
dying, and nothing is being done about it. He is trying to shock readers with a twisted story, but
also bring about change

  • 2. Fog Pathway The Fog pathway drives actin and myosin apical constriction In developmental biology an important objective is to understand how cells behave to shape tissues that produce highly organized embryos. Epithelial morphogenesis is a process driven by actin and myosin apical constriction that results in sheets of cells rearranging to form defined structures. The Drosophila Folded in gastrulation (Fog) pathway is one of the best developmental signaling pathways in demonstrating this process. During gastrulation, the epithelial cells undergo a range of morphogenetic mechanisms to form the ventral furrow (VF) and the posterior midgut (PMG). This process begins with Dorsal, a maternal factor, activating Twist and Snail transcription factors which in turn activates the transcription of the secreted ligand Fog that is a zygotic factor expressed in presumptive mesoderm and posterior midgut primordium. Fog in turn activates Concertina (Cta), a GО±12/13 homologue through an unknown membrane receptor that leads to the activation of RhoGEF, which is recruited to the apical membrane by T48 protein. RhoGEF2 then activates Rho1, a small GTPase, activating the Rho pathway and its components such as Rho kinase (Rok), non muscle myosin II, and actin, leading to apical constriction and actin myosin based cell shape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2013) developed a novel functional genomic approach by reconstituting the epithelial folding pathway in a cell based assay. From S2 cells, S2R+ cells that contracted in response to Fog were engineered. The S2R+ cells did not contract during RNAi mediated depletion of proteins in the pathway, such as Cta, RhoGEF2, or Rho1, indicating that the pathway has been reconstructed in these cells. The Fog receptor mist was identified by performing a targeted RNAi screen in the S2R+ cells and individually depleting 138 GPCRs in the Drosophila genome. The S2R+ cells that do not exhibit contraction to Fog therefore contained the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Forgiveness In The Tempest According to a recent research done in the Fetzer Institute of Psychology, 58% of the American population has admitted to have held grudge. The theme of forgiveness, nevertheless, is a topic that has been widely discussed before for instance, in William Shakespeare s play, The Tempest. In the play, Prospero, an exiled duke who has been betrayed by his own brother, receives an opportunity to fulfill his indignation as those who deceived him approach the island on which he settled. He conducts a plan which involves dark magic, to avenge their deeds, hoping to ultimately cause the death of the treacherous. In the first scene of the fifth act, his loyal servant, Ariel, described the condition of the hostages whereas Prospero evaluated the extent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His assurance in his tempest is disturbed once again, and consequently he calls Ariel nothing but air, a touch, a feeling (V.i.17). Prospero s partially condescending attitude towards his servant, represented in this statement by the repetition of synonyms, is caused by the initial understanding of his mistakes. He is not capable of confronting this truth and hence strengthens himself through the humiliation of Ariel, while internally admitting his poignant deeds. This portrays that forgiveness is the ultimate solution; as difficult as it is to reach it. He then states that the rarer action is in virtue than in vengeance (V.i.17). These two words, one of the most contrasted pairs of words in the English language, are put under the same context. The alliteration of the letter V in this statement signifies that the both virtue and vengeance are optional, and it is utterly under one s responsibility and personal choice which one to espouse. Virtue is listed first because of its vitality to the human society. As a conclusion of this process, Prospero addresses Ariel once more; Go release them Ariel (V.i.25). The phrasing which resembles a command, demonstrates Prospero s attempts to be fair, despite the enormous pressure under which he is put. Referring to his first metaphor, he indirectly explains that Prospero is now released out of the strife of revenge which has taken control of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Standard Deduction Introduction Standard deduction is a provision of the United States federal income tax system, which serves two purposes including a least amount amount of untaxed income, thus acting as an ingredient of progressivity. Second, it provides a simplified alternative to the itemized deductions for tax payers with comparatively low itemizable expenses, thus relieving them of the record keeping and computational burden of itemizing deductions. Having one provision is a compromise to other but it is a compromise that is unnecessary. (Samansky, 1991) A base sum of income that is not focused to tax and that can be used to decrease a taxpayer s adjusted gross income (AGI), a standard deduction can only be used if the taxpayer does not prefer the itemized deduction method of calculating taxable income. The sum of the standard deduction is based on a taxpayer s filing status, age and whether he or she is disabled or claimed as a reliant on another person s tax return. The major reason taxpayers exercise standard instead of itemized deductions is that taxpayers don t have to keep track of every potential tax deductible expense throughout the year. Plus, a lot of people find the standard deduction amount to be fairly generous and usually greater than the total they could reach if they added up all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People often overlook or fail to record allowable tax deductions and keep their approach only for the standard amount specified by the IRS. For instance, homeowners often pay more interest and real estate tax than the standard deduction permits. Also, small business owners who have a running home office often can incur additional tax deductions higher than the standard amount. Taxpayers must keep accurate records along with actual receipts to itemize deductions. Failure to do this makes the standard deduction a advantage but also may cost you a lot of money in tax ... An Investigation into the Factors Affecting the Rate of the Reaction between Calcium Carbonate and Hydrochloric Acid A chemical reaction is the process by which atoms or groups of atoms are redistributed, resulting in a change in the molecular composition of substances. The equipment should be set up as shown in the diagram below: The small marble chip will be placed in the conical flask first and then the hydrochloric acid will be poured into the flask and as soon as all the acid is in I will start the stop clock and put the bung on the flask. • 7. Light And Sugar Hypothesis Analysis: When evaluating the result from this investigation it is evident that the sugar light is the most effective mix, based on the aspect of the plants grown by them. The Prediction in the hypothesis was correct as the plant that grew the largest amount was the plant with both sugar and light, however the statement that light was more valuable than sugar was shown to be incorrect. The first prediction was clearly correct, as it can clearly be seen by comparing table (t, 1) and table (T, 6) that the plant with sugar and light grew on average by .53cm in height while the one with only sugar lost on average 1.66 cm in height, the plant with just light lost on average .33cm in height and the plant with no sugar and no light grew only 2 cm in height. The factor of the amount of roots that grew completely support the hypothesis as the roots of the plant that had sunlight and sugar, as can clearly be seen by comparing (t, 1) and (t, 6) went up by 5 roots while the plant with only sugar on average gained .66 roots, the plant with just light on average only gained 2.66 roots and the plant with no sugar and no light on average gained 2 roots. Roe and wade is a federal 410 U.S. 113 (1973), is a landmark choice by means of the US Supreme courtroom on the issue of abortion. It became decided simultaneously with an associate case, Doe v. Dodds takes issue with three different opinions on Oedipus Rex. I consider the first two opinions, which Dodds gleaned from student papers, to be defensible from a close reading of the text. The first of these opinions is that Oedipus was a bad man, and was therefore punished by the gods; Dodds counters that Sophocles intended for us to regard him as good, noble, and selfless. But the play would seem to indicate that Oedipus, while a clever man, is not a good one this can be shown through Dodds own source of argument, the attitude of the chorus, as well as through Oedipus own actions onstage. Oedipus does not, as Dodds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the driving force of Oedipus fact finding mission is an attempt to end the plague which racks his city. He does not realize the personal consequences his hunt will have for him, and his loyalty to the truth (23) is based on his ignorance of it. In fact, if we examine the events leading up to Oedipus revelation, the incidental nature of his quest for identity becomes apparent. First, he summons Tiresias to name the killer, whom Oedipus does not at the time believe to be himself. Then a messenger arrives from Corinth, unbidden by the king, revealing that Oedipus is not truly Polybus son. Finally, the shepherd reveals all of Oedipus past, after having been called for the purpose of providing more information about Laius death. The coincidental nature of these events is somewhat at odds with Dodds vision of Oedipus as a sort of Greek private detective who relentlessly ferrets out clues in a self destructive search for his parents. Oedipus is eager to find the truth, but the most pivotal witnesses for the true story of his birth either come to him of their own volition, or are convened by Oedipus in the hopes that they will tell him something entirely different. In the end, he resigns himself to the truth which would have been clear much earlier (as it was to Jocasta), had he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Education As A Motif In Shelley And Dickens Education as a motif in Shelley and Dickens Charles Dickens and Mary Shelley lived during the time of the Industrial Revolution. It was a time of improvement and change that not everybody agreed was good. Charles Dickens Great Expectations and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein both incorporate the reception of this change in their respective novels. With change there comes a learning process of how all new inventions can become part of life and how society is supposed to be. Furthermore, both authors chose education as a motif for portraying not only the change in education but also the fear that comes with this New Age .While Shelley lived and wrote at the rather beginning of the Industrial Revolution, Dickens work gives the reader impressions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robin Gilmore writes in his article The Pursuit of Gentility about Dickens writing skills and his way of describing the upperclass without really having been born into it. Dickens was able to incorporate his experience into his novel Great Expectations when he describes the character Pip and how he wants to become a gentleman (Gilmore 576 582). Furthermore, Gilmore adds an important argument when he talks about the Victorian age and how people may be able to work themselves up to higher classes but never manage to become equals to those who were born a gentleman . Classes of that time were slowly merging together and this is the real reason why Pip was able to reach his status of a gentleman in the end. However, people of that time were still aware of the discrepancy between classes and were afraid of losing their status as wealthy and understood people of upper class. Pip s guardian Mr. Jaggers once claims that you have to have a certain education, knowledge and behavior in order to become accepted as a member of the upper class, It is considered that you must be better educated in accordance with your altered position, and that you will be alive to the importance and necessity of at once entering on that advantage (Dickens 110). This shows that education has a huge impact on what you become. However, more importantly, the family you are born into decides whether or not you will have the privilege of receiving this education of higher standards. Pip is surrounded by a multi layered society that influences him throughout his life. All the circumstances of ongoing change in society as well as technology etc. have a huge ... • 11. Essay On Dopamine Taking a look inside of the basal ganglia specifically within the substantia nigra and ventral tegmental space, the production of dopamine occurs. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that effects provide both excitatory and inhibitory responses with axon networks. Within the substantia nigra amino acids known as tyrosine reacts with tyrosine hydroxylase in order to produce L Dopa which is then reacted with L Dopa decarboxylase in order to finally produce dopamine. Once produced dopamine has been found responsible for initiating movement, helpful in attention and learning. Therefore, the synthesis of dopamine occurs within the substantia nigra, but this is only where the cell bodies are located. The neurons project onto the ventral tegmental area... It has been thought that such a hyperactivity, which can cause hallucination are the primary reason for schizophrenia but in recent studies there may be other factors that cause schizophrenia. These factors are still unclear. However, for now tyrosine an amino acid is converted into L Dopa which then is converted into dopamine. Dopamine is then released into a synapse which can influence an individuals thought processes specifically it can cause one to experience severe hallucinations a and delusions of people and objects that do not exist ultimately linking dopamine and schizophrenia. However it should be known that the Dopamine Hypothesis of Schizophrenia is currently being disputed but for now the scientific community believes that schizophrenia may be caused by hyperactivity of dopamine likely due to the inability to inactivate and reuptake dopamine in the synapse and repeated binding to D2 ... The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood Middle Childhood is the name given for the age division from 6 to 11 years of a child s life. They are also known as the school years. During this time a child s health, education, and emotional well being are all undergoing changes. Though not as drastic as the changes they will soon face in adolescence, they are steady, and the impact that nature and nurture will have on these aspects reach far and wide across the many developments they face in their lives. With healthy children physical activity and exercise is key, and there are many forms of it, such as sports, physical education, and rough and tumble play. A dominance hierarchy is established through rough and tumble play. Through this activity, it becomes clear who is the stronger child, which is a way in which nature helps define who is the leader in a group friends, and who would win, should a conflict arise. Rough and tumble play is common in school recesses, where children are developing cognitively. If a child has been to preschool before, chances are, they ll be ahead of the curve a bit when learning to solve problems, and learning how to read and write. This is another major way in which nurture has its effects on a child s outcome in development. If a child has received enough attention, and has been read to, then they are perfectly ready to solve problems rationally, in an organized way. While at this point it is mostly up to the child to engage in memory strategies like rehearsal, and organization, it is also up to the parents to impose the proper discipline to make sure that their child uses a part of their time after school to use these strategies to help them study for a test. If a child is raised in a low SES environment, where they may be left home alone, for a length of time after they ve arrived home from school, the child may be watching TV or doing something else while unsupervised. • 13. The Importance Of Fanatic Discipline In Nursing As look to the future, I become excited about the possibilities that lay ahead. I was captured by Collins with these words, We cannot predict the future. But we can create it (p.1). Great by Choice, then became something of an obsession. I began to dissect and examine myself and my gifts and talents to determine where my strengths lay, and weaknesses could be improved. I examined how I could become of better service, exercise humility and leadership more effectively and how I could share my passions with others. I suggest that if I could accomplish these goals, I would indeed feel as fulfilled. As I continued my inward journey, I devoured the subsequent chapters where I felt continued to be reassured. Fanatic Discipline is described by Collins consistency with regard to values, long term goals, performance standards and consistency over time. He goes on to remind us that regimentation is not the same as discipline and to a 10Xer the only discipline is self discipline (p.21). In the medical profession, the best nurses learn to triage when it comes to patient care. This means, to determine the priority of the patients treatment based on the severity of condition of each individual. This is especially important when handling crisis situations and requires fanatic discipline. Lack of monomaniacal focus in medicine can result in the loss of life. I would suggest that in our day to day professional and personal lives 10Xers, must be able to triage according to which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These are the four topics of desire that Michael Pollan talks about within his memoirs in The Botany of Desire. All four desires are told through powerful euphemisms in relation to plants that we have come to know as domesticated. In regards to our modern relationship with plants, the apple, tulip, marijuana, and potato are perhaps some of our most treasured allies. This could not be truer than that relationship in which we have with the potato. That relationship has lasted for thousands of years, and its genetic makeup has been the conversation of many farmers around the world. The potatoes birthplace with the Incans proved to be a time of high biodiversity with thousands of varieties. However, through the act of monoculture with Europeans, and a need to feed a growing population, the potato has experienced a decrease in the amount of varieties that are cultivated. Control ... Diversity is the argument for non traditional, or non monoculture farming; diversity in species and methods. When faced with a deadly virus or disease, a whole monoculture can simply die out. This was the problem with Irish potatoes, which forced the largest emigration of recent memory. What s more, is that today s monocultures are chemically treated in such a way to avoid the problem that plagued the Irish. Soil, in all of its natural life giving diversity, has become barren, unable to support any type of crop without the intensive additions of fertilizers and with them, chemicals. Since there does not seem to be a legal problem with them, and they have not been accused of these crimes, Socrates should not even be standing trial on what is clearly trumped up charges, and attempting to have a man executed unjustly (Apology 30d). A side from what seems to be Socrates overt contempt for the rulings of the courts, as stated in the above mentioned examples, there are numerous other examples in the Apology defending my belief that Socrates views, compliance of Athenian law, are consistent throughout both works in question. In its native homeland of southeastern Brazil, the strawberry guava is limited, unlike Hawaii, where it forms monotypic stands that displace native Hawaiian flora and fauna and drive these indigenous, endemic, and endangered species towards extinction. Strawberry guava contributes further to the displacement of native Hawaiian forests by providing nourishment to feral pigs and mice that feed on native Hawaiian flora and fauna. Besides displacement of native Hawaiian species, strawberry guava puts humans at risk through increased erosion and soil runoff as well as hosting fruit flies that cause large scale damage to crops. As Stuckey points out, the cabaret acts, especially the (in)famous can can, but also the drama Spectacular Spectacular , provide frenetic musical numbers for Moulin Rouge! that serve to amaze the audience. The can can dance is a flurry of legs and petticoats thrown up in the air, edited with a fast pace to convey the excitement Christian is feeling when he enters the Moulin Rouge. These elements successfully elicit the filmmaker s desired emotion within me. When Satine first appears in the film during her burlesque routine, the crowd is in awe, staring up at her like she is an angel coming down from heaven. When she performs in the Moulin Rouge, the crowd instantly recognizes her and cheers. Their reactions give the film s audience an idea of how to feel about Satine and how to react when we see her come onscreen. As the audience cheers, I too found myself wanting to cheer for her. Therefore, I feel I enjoyed these scenes as the movie literally queued how I should respond. I feel these well placed queues heighten my enjoyment, especially during the ensemble numbers and the comedic scenes. Looking back at chapter 1 in Staying Alive , epidemiologists were trying to convey the overall message that inequality is bad for our health and that each individual must have the basic needs to survive. This relates back to the issue of homelessness, as they are ones who do not have the basic needs to survive. The most commonly used measure of inequality is that of income differences (Raphael, 2014, p.24).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you are living in a small neighborhood, most of the people are comparable economically. Having enough food and clean water and shelter takes precedence over economic justice. For countries with a low GDP, life expectancy estimates tend to increase with increasing GDP, which can indicate that everyone is getting the basic necessities of life and living standards are improving (Raphael, 2014, p. 26). When I came across Box 1.1: What Produces Health in a Population , it strikes me thinking that the homeless population do not have access to this. For example, the provision of the basic needs (food, water, shelter, security), provision of caring and sharing which is measured by the distribution of wealth, resources, and income, access to basic health care services, cultural elements of social harmony, and a focus on early life (Raphael, 2014, p.26). Babatope (1974) and Onwuejeogwu (1991) note that the students union was born and nurtured in the womb of colonial protest. He is best known for starring in numerous television shows explaining the universe in terms of physics. He states, During our brief stay on planet Earth, we owe ourselves and our descendants the opportunity to explore in part because it s fun to do. But there s a far nobler reason. The day our knowledge of the cosmos ceases to expand, we risk regressing to the childish view that the universefiguratively and literally revolves around us. The universe has been a constant mystery and challenge to humankind. Humans wish to understand what is beyond their immediate environment. Cosmology is the study of the universe, more specifically, the origins, evolution, history, structure, and ultimate fate. In Greek, the term cosmos means universe, which is the very foundation of the study. Cosmology s largest critic is Creationism; thus, science and religion battle it out to discover what is true and right in the world. The history of the universe extends past the beginning of humankind and the following philosophers, mathematicians, and astronomers will attempt to provide explanations of what is known today as the Great Unknown. The universe of the past was understood to be a simple one galaxymodel that was both unchanging and immeasurable. The Nature of God tells the story in different religions, although I think this would be the significance and play an important role in a deciding factor for someone looking into making a decision to believe in a particular religion. • 36. Reflection On General Psychology Reflective Final Taking my first general psychology has been very interesting. I am ending the semester with a lot of newly acquired knowledge about how and why our brain works the way it does. I have chosen three out of many of the things I have learned and reflected on them deeply in this paper. First, I will be talking about Social Categorization, which has changed my views on how I generally perceive people. Secondly, I will discuss Stereotypevulnerability, which has brought me to the realisation that stereotypes are more than just labels and can seriously change the way people behave towards not only one another but with themselves. Lastly, I will discuss The Fundamental Attribution Error, which will always cause me to think twice or even three times about how I perceive people s actions. These topics have all been significantly mindaltering for me in ways I will explain further in this paper. In order to understand why we perceive people the way we do, we must think back to how we learned as infants. As infants we built schemas, which are concepts and mental models to categorize things. This is explained by Piaget s theory of cognitive development. When meeting new and unfamiliar experiences or people we tend to relate them to existing memories or schemes we have already built. As we grow up and meet new people we categorize them in hopes to understand and group together similarities and this is called Social Categorization. It is believed that this ... To combat disruptive behavior researchers have noted that character educationis a unit of the child s growth, which marks the child s tendencies and dimensions to be in control, and allows them to have moral and self management (Lapsley and Yeager, 2013). There has been a revival of character education, placing a strong emphasis on the teachings of moral qualities, and has been a wide spread instructional trend the past decade. Character education is one way some schools in a variety of communities are trying to improve these behaviors (Davis, 2007). The proposed pipeline, which would be built by TransCanada, would connect two existing pipes, consisting total of around 1,700 miles of pipeline. The two sides of this argument can be roughly boiled down to two words: environment and economy. In such turbulent times can Americans afford to pass up a so called shovel ready project that would create jobs and cut dependence on foreign oil from unfriendly places, or, as some would claim, is the risk of environmental mayhem too great? Bulimia was known to be very difficult to treat when it first was acknowledged (Hudson, Pope, Harrison Jonas, 1983). Fortunately today it can be treated by drug or cognitive therapy. The next two stages highlight the decline of interest within environmental issues, resulting in an immense decline in euphoric enthusiasm. Thus, the third stage of the issue attention cycle is realizing the cost of significant progress. This entails the spread of a gradual realization that the cost of solving the problem is much higher than originally expected. More specifically, it would take a great deal of money and resources, as well as major sacrifices by large groups in the population. This results in a realization by the public that the problem is usually a direct result from some extremely beneficial aspect of their lives. For example, smog and air pollution can be a result from the increased use of cars, so not only would cutting down on how often one drives a car decrease this pollution, but would also decrease in the advantages that owning a car contains. For some people, sacrificing these advantages comes as no easy task, and most don t want to sacrifice at all. Coraghessan Boyle, both are short stories that explore the concept of satire. Satire can be defined as a kind of writing that ridicules human weakness, vice, of folly in order to bring about social reform. It is a kind of writing to bring about change to society. Even though both are short stories, they easily get the faults of society across to its readers. In A Modest Proposal, Swift is offering an outrageous solution to the problems of human misery. He proposes that people should start eating babies, and using them for everything that they are worth on a daily basis.
