The Machiavellian Approach to Management Essay
The Machiavellian Approach to Management
Whether you love him/her or hate him/her everybody has one...a boss. Most people have their own
opinions as to what kind of boss it is that they would like to work for. Most would probably agree that
the worst kind of boss is a new boss. This is more than likely due to people s extraordinary fear of
change and the unknown. Whatever the reason, the employee always has the option to leave their
position and seek work elsewhere. The same can not be said for subjects of states, who by no action of
their own, were to be ruled by a new prince. Just as varied as the ways in which one inherits a new
boss, likewise new principalities have an abundance of ways of being acquired. Niccolo ... Show more

Adding fuel to an already explosive situation, by making changes to company policy should be
avoided at all costs. However, as Machiavelli suggests that a boss by birth [has] less need to harm
his[/her] employees, thus putting some of the fears towards the new boss to rest (8).
When a principality is acquired through an acquisition of a non hostile nature, it is the prince who may
have fears. The prince of a mixed principality faces more difficulties than those of a hereditary
principality. Machiavelli suggests that these difficulties derive from one natural problem inherent in all
new principalities: men gladly change their masters, thinking to better themselves (8). Additionally,
the new prince is, out of necessity, going to offend his new subjects by bringing in his soldiers and
[causing] other countless injuries that are involved in his new conquest (8). These same problems will
face the management of a newly acquired business. Those employees that are retained will
automatically look to better their current position by less than honest means. Those left over from the
old regime may be inclined to steal from the company out of fear that they may soon be replaced.
Thus, endangering the already financially unstable situation that an acquisition puts a company in.
Therefore, measures must be taken to ensure that the state/company not be lost due to an uprising by

Interpersonal Communication Analysis
It is noticed how one s intrapersonal communication can impact their interpersonal communication.
This can be experienced throughout many aspects and specific examples of ones self communication
and communication with others, which can be expressed through experiences in lab seminar as well as
personal experiences. Firstly, this is seen throughout my own self as I compare myself to others, and
feel as if I am always the inferior. Secondly, my ability to grow from a closed off, shy individual to a
more open, outgoing person has impacted my communication with others tremendously. Thirdly, my
ability to empathize with people is my area of strength and listening, as well as maintaining eye
contact, are areas I need to improve on. Lastly, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally, I believe there are several interpersonal communication skills that I am good at, as well as
some skills that I need to improve on. I believe that I am good at empathizing during communication.
As Steven A. Beebe (2015) states, Empathy is an emotional reaction that is similar to the one being
experienced by another person, (p. 126). With this being said, when someone cries, I begin to feel my
eyes start to well up with tears. This is something that has always been a part of me since I was a
young child. In comparison, when relating to my lab seminar group, I know I need to work on my
listening skills as well as maintaining eye contact while listening. I find myself getting distracted
easily, which results in not being able to fully understand the entire meaning of the message that my
partner is communicating. I find it difficult to maintain eye contact throughout the whole
conversation, as it feels awkward. These interpersonal communication skills relate directly to offering

The War Of The World War I
It s been over a century since Austria declared war on Serbia. The assassination of Archduke Francis
Ferdinand, in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, sparked a war that was to end all others. It clearly did not.
Countless wars and conflicts have been fought since, each evolving into something different than the
last. As a result, modern warfare has evolved into something completely different than that of a
century ago. Although war is fought for fundamentally the same reasons, warfare, as it is practiced
today, is different from that of World War I. This is primarily due to the rise of counterinsurgency
operations, the focus on air superiority and the use of technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles,
which have led to the decline of mass army against army war. Characterized by the declaration of war,
the amassing of vast battlefield formations, and the use of new technologies, such as the machine gun
and airplane, World War I was the epitome of conventional war. The myriad of alliances across Europe
in the early 20th century allowed military leaders to carefully craft offensive plans of war focused on
the weaknesses of known enemies and designed to swiftly defeat opposing military forces. For
example, Germany s Schlieffen Plan assumed that the Reich could only win a two front war by
crushing France before Russia could mobilize. Capitalizing on the lightly defended French north, a
result of France s assumption that Belgium s neutrality would not be violated, and

The Kernel Of Roman Society

Critical Paper II
Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society
Introduction
In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral
principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible
emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying
signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered
multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures
as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and
how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave.
Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving
father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts
Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid,
Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only
towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the
beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his
mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). The destiny that
Aeneas is to

What Is A Probable Cause
a. I would try to get a search warrant. Besides that and making sure the suspect knows he can have a
lawyer present, I would try to get more information out of him. In this case, the probable cause (or
more than reasonable suspicion) would be the incriminating statements. Obviously this depends on the
circumstances, but if the suspects attempts to flee, hide, tries to destroy evidence, gives evasive
answers, or perhaps he has a record, or his behavior is suspicious or unusual, then that would be
acceptable as well. However, the probable cause would be stronger if there were more of these
examples present in the suspects behavior. In addition to probable cause, the warrant must have an
address and location, a reason, the names of the people

Theme Of Gender Identity In Suffragette
The themes of gender identity defined in all three movies remain quite typical. The women in the
films identify with mostly feminine traits and vice versa. Maud in Suffragette believes herself to be a
mere helpless housewife who can only excel at laundry and house chores until she s told by differently
by other suffragettes and Ms. Pankhurst.
Opportunity and resources may just be a once in a lifetime or never to happen events in a marginalized
person s lifetime. To define in one word, they just might mean everything to them. In all three of these
films we see how unfair and underprivileged these people s lives are.

In suffragette, Maud is dominantly feminine, even though a working woman, she is the caretaker and
managing all domestic work, she s very submissive at first, takes all orders from her husband and
boss, but starts to turn rebellious later on. The men in suffragette are portrayed as the people in power,
they have all the hegemony. Men can own property, vote, and hold custody of children. Women are
meant to be nothing more than their wives;
You re a mother, Maud. You are a wife. You re my wife, and that s all you re meant to be. (Sonny

The Fundamental Process of Turning Sugar in Energy
One of the most fundamental processes of life is the ability to turn sugar into energy. Our cells have
the ability to carry out this process both aerobically and anaerobically. Although anaerobic respiration
does not produce the amount of energy that aerobic respiration does; it is still a very important
process, because it allows cells to turn sugar into useable energy in the absence of oxygen. (Lab 15:
Fermentation Experiments: Background) This is done though a process called fermentation.
Fermentation consists of glycolysis plus reactions that regenerate NAD+ by transferring electrons
from NADH to pyruvate. (Campbell and Reece 173 178) There are many different types but we
happen to be interested in alcohol fermentation, which is carried out by bacteria and yeast. (Reiner) In
alcohol fermentation sugar is broken down and turned into carbon dioxide and ethanol. Knowing this
we can measure the amount of carbon dioxide produced and get an idea of how quickly the reaction is
running. (Campbell and Reece 173 178) Glucose is one of the most abundant carbohydrates on earth
and therefore is generally the sugar involved in fermentation. (Ophardt) It is a monosaccharide with a
six membered ring structure ( Simple Sugars: Fructose, glucose and sucrose ) Fructose and sucrose are
two other common simple sugars found in many of the foods we eat. Fructose is very similar to
glucose only it is made up of a five membered ring. And sucrose is a disaccharide; it is a combination

Cyrano De Bergerac Qualities
Justifying The Qualities of Characters in Cyrano de Bergerac
In the story of Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, there are people who solely focus on the
aesthetics of others instead of the personality or quality of the individual. Though it seems completely
innocent, they can only hurt themselves, and the people close to them. Cyrano de Bergerac presents
the theme of love as an umbrella to the motifs of precieuse, and platonic love, Rostand conveys the
message that judging people on external beauty, and making reality bend to one s desires can lead to
self harm, and heartbreak. When a person is a precieuse, they alter reality, and facts to their liking,
however this can only achieve sorrow, and despair upon oneself. In Act two of Cyrano ... Show more

Even Cyrano de Bergerac expresses fear with platonic love when he is met with the chance of seeing
Roxane. Le Bret tries to convince Cyrano when he declared, ...your wit, your courage they can earn
love...I saw her face, Roxane s, tonight during your duel. It was ghastly white. That skill, that courage
got the girl. You re half way there. Now dare to speak. Cyrano responds So she can laugh at this?
Why, man, there s nothing that I fear more in this world... (31). These quotes not only show that
Cyrano is very self conscious of his nose, but he does not even attempt speak, meet with, or make
contact with Roxane, unless asked to. This decision by Cyrano might be one of the most fatal decision
in his life because he did not tell Roxane how he felt about her before she claimed that she had fallen
in love with Christian. As well as being a precieuse, Roxane is also said to use platonic love. This is
true because when Roxane was talking about Christian, and states, ...I love him. All that remains for
me to say is that I ve only seen him at the theatre , after she has mentioned such a man intelligent,
young, brave, beautiful (46), she concludes qualities about Christian that can only be decided with the
eyes. These quotes also explain that in Roxane s point of view, love can be depicted in many ways, but
external beauty is often the most

The Accidental Prime Minister By Sanjaya Baru
The Accidental Prime Minister by Sanjaya Baru, published in 2014, is an account of former Indian
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh s two terms in office. Sanjaya Baru was appointed as Media
Adviser to Dr. Manmohan Singh during his first term in UPA 1 from 2004 to 2009. This book is in the
form of a political memoir. The book s narrative follows a chronological format, painting a picture of
Dr. Singh s terms in UPA 1 and UPA 2.
In the introduction to his book, Baru proclaims that none of his predecessors at the Prime Minister s
office ever wrote a full book on his experiences during his tenure. Editors as famous as B G Verghese,
Kuldip Nayar, H K Dua and Prem Shankar Jha chose not to do so. As also bureaucrats like G

It only re affirms what the Indian public knew to be true.
Dr. Manmohan Singh is shown, regrettably, as a helpless, clueless shadow puppet of Sonia Gandhi
who almost arouses our sympathies because of his ineffectiveness in functioning as the Prime Minister
of India. This sad truth was simply being put on record by the primary witness, ie, Sanjaya Baru, to
this political drama.

kowtow to the High Command, Sonia Gandhi. For Dr. Singh, the Gandhi family came first, followed
by the political party, prime minister s office and, lastly, the

Does Genetics Play A Part In Your Future
Do genetics play a part in your future? Personally, I think this is an absurd accusation. Saying that
your genetics play a part in your future, in my opinion, is a bit stereotypical. If genetics played a part
in your future, then all Asians would be good at math and be doctors in the future. All Middle Eastern
people would grow up to be terrorist. All African American s would only be able to succeed in life if
they could rap a lyric or dribble a ball . All Hispanics would only have a future if they opened their
own taco truck or lawn service. All of these stereotypical examples are irrational and unrealistic. Your
outcome depends upon your vision of your future, your intelligence, your willingness to achieve what
you want to attain and the strategic use of knowledge that is gained throughout life. So, do I believe
genetics play a part in someone s future? I think it s safe to say I contradict that statement. ... Show

Overview
What is an Independent Broker Dealer?
Broker dealers are specialized financial services companies that trade securities for their own account
or on behalf of their customers. Broker dealers are regulated under the Securities Exchange Act by the
Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), a unit of the US government. Some regulatory authority is
further delegated to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), a self regulatory
organization. Many states also regulate broker dealers under separate state securities laws known as
blue sky laws.
The IBD business model focuses on comprehensive financial planning services and unbiased
investment advice. IBD firms also share a number of other similar business characteristics. They
generally clear their securities business on a fully disclosed basis; primarily engage in the sale of
packaged products, such as mutual funds and variable insurance products; take a comprehensive
approach to their clients financial goals and objectives; and provide investment advisory services
through either affiliated registered investment adviser firms or such firms owned by their financial
advisor.

Global Warming And Its Effects On The Earth s Environment
Green Practice Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average
temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently
changing the Earth s climate (Goguen). Day to day, fossil fuels are being burned; humans are
deforesting land, driving cars, creating and demolishing buildings, and much more; these activities
result in the release of greenhouse gases (Goguen). Architects are now being awakened by global
warming issues and are planning ideas to alter their designs to reduce carbon emissions for future
buildings. Correspondingly, colleges are beginning to prepare architecture students on how to design
buildings that are carbon neutral, and educating them on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Furthermore, architects can incorporate off site renewable energy into their work, like wind energy to
avoid the use of fossil fuel energy. Most of California s latest buildings have already incorporated the
carbon neutral strategy, and it has now been made a standard for all innovative projects (Challenge).
The 2030 Challenge has encouraged many companies to start designing eco friendly and with the
more attention the issue gets, the more successful the world will be in reversing global warming.
Enlightening the architecture field on how buildings are polluting the world is the first step to solving
global warming matters. Change is often times a difficult task and most people are not willing to alter
their habits. Although without the change of design to green practices, architects will just keep hurting
the world and its climate. Because architects have been designing for many years, it will be hard for
the experts to convert their work into zero carbon designs (Budds). Each firm should inform their
architecture team about the 2030 Challenge and plan to start acting now. The next step should be
eliminating previous building designs and converting the carbon neutral designs to a standard
(Mazria). There is now an online tool created for architects to give them the best information and
illustrate new ideas for their designs so the transition is not as problematic, it is called the 2030 Palette

Let America Be America Again By Langston Hughes
Theme: Freedom
In his poem, let America be America again, Hughes focuses on American freedom and equality. His
concern was on the socio economic division in the American society. Relating the American
declaration at independence, Hughes observes that the road to achievement of equality and freedom
lost. The country has become corrupt and its leaders and businessmen are greedy. The grabbed land
and gold making them wealthier during the common American citizen; the Negros, red Indians, the
poor whites and immigrants lavish in poverty (Schmidt, and Lynne, 776). They have not achieved the

Freedom is not a racial thing but for every citizen whose life has been affected by the path taken by
the American development. The America projected while freedom was a country of hope, equality and
freedom (Schmidt, and Lynne, 776). The American freedom was not on gender and race only but a
freedom that spread its wings to embrace economic freedom and equality. However, the current
America is not a country that many including Hughes anticipated. A class system is the division is the
classification system in the modern America; millions are drowning in the lake of poverty while a few
one percent are floating in the cream of wealth. It is this inequality that Hughes wants addressed; it is
the equitable distribution of resources that make him concerned for the poor American citizen; either
of African, Indian, polish, Irish and English descent. These are the people who left their ancestral
home to come and realize their dream of a happy life in America. They are the people who bear scars
of slavery and those who toil with machines (line 20 amp; 32), these who were fooled and pushed
apart by the greedy and selfish bourgeoises. Hughes seeks the freedom these people who are poor and

The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative Essay
The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative
In both The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative, the authors inspect the issue of one s
cultural identity by way of the telling of their own story, and how it has affected them. By telling their
stories as persons who have emerged themselves into a new culture, but at the same retained vestiges
of the old, Olaudah Equiano and Maxine Kingston are exemplifying a duality in cultural identity, that
is often times lost.
Before continuing, though, it is important to clarify the definition of cultural identity, at least for this
paper. One s cultural identity is the way one sees oneself in terms of the cultures and societies that
they have come from. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This personal connection to the native culture is an important part to any cultural identity, because it
provides a means of introspection, an ability to determine one s perception of oneself. The ability to
perceive oneself is important because it permits one to look at and choose to discard or retain parts of
one s various cultures into one s personal cultural identity.
However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because
he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he was
forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in his
cultural identity. These experiences include his numerous journeys on his masters ships, which
combined with his religious explorations at the time led him to desire to become an Englishman. At
the same time, they allowed him to create a broader identity, because he saw the connections between
himself and other cultures (such as Turkish and Jewish cultures of the time.)
The second crucial factor in determining the cultural identity, and is shown in The Interesting
Narrative, is the time that one is exposed to a culture. It is not difficult to determine that in Equiano it
appears his native culture had little direct impact on him. In the narrative, he makes little to no
mention of his home, his native country, or anything related to them. This

the trials of the Pickles and Lamb families. In their misguided search for happiness, the characters in
Cloudstreet each engage in self destructive behavior. This fruitless search ultimately becomes their
greatest challenge. These catastrophic behaviors manifest uniquely in each character. Whether through
seeking independence, falling victim to addiction or deliberately separating themselves from their

one of the transcendental beliefs Chris is trying to follow. An example of this is when Krakauer says,
Alex insisted on giving Gallien his watch, his comb, and what he said was all his money: eighty five
cents in loose change (Krakauer 7). This shows that Alex, aka Chris, wants to give all of his
belongings away to live a more simple life. Chris obviously gets the idea of a simple life from Henry
David Thoreau who preaches simplicity. Thoreau says, An honest man has no need to count more than

Sex, Gender, Racial Identity, And Stereotyping And...
Art has an interesting way of reinforcing itself through popular culture in western society. A culture
that has a population mixed with many different racial identities, yet cultivates its pop culture through
a black and white preface. The U.S is known to categorize diverse races into one; highlighting the
inferiority other races face while living within our culture. Women have been idealized and
compounded into western society as sex symbols and housewives. Women from other races non white
or Black are not only seen the same way, but are also included in the melting pot of diluted racial
identities formatted from whitening groups. Racial identity hardly sways the expectations in Women
that society sees as normal; rather it highlights the racial discrimination we reinforce in western
culture that derives from improper stereotyping and labeling. Historically, women are subject to
unbound methods of reinforcing gender roles. Today, their sexuality is exploited so frequently in
popular culture, that they have become a sex object, rather than a housewife. Tom Fords image of a
naked female ironing men s pants grasps the concept of both stereotypes, appealing to the young
adults in the United States. Initially, this ad promotes the ideology of mans superiority over women.
Understanding how gender is really portrayed in western popular culture allows individuals to
conceptualize the inferior attitude many ads display towards women. Through methods of observation,

Using the roster from maxpreps.com
Last night I ventured from Bellaire to Corning to take in the Crestline at Miller game not knowing
what to expect, mostly because I had no knowledge of Crestline other then their record going in to this
one(3 2).
The stadium is very, very old school, with little seating. For some reason this works for the very
passionate Falcons fans and for me I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The only down fall was the white off
colored scoreboard, that you could not see until the sun went down.
This one was a six all tie at one time, then the Falcons soared to forty one straight points. Leading the

The art of animation was first introduced as early as the 1900 s. Since technology did not allow for
advanced types of animation to be produced, it was extremely limited in its early days. One of the first
people to gain popularity over their animation films was Walt Disney, who was an important influence
on Burton s film making. Moreover, in Corpse Bride, Burton and his crew provide a scene very
similar to Disney s 1929 s short film The Skeleton Dance. Special choreography was taken
particularly from the short and was incorporated into Corpse Bride giving it an old fashioned, but
enjoyable touch. Even though Disney s family friendly cartoons served as an enormous influence on
Burton s decision to start producing children s animation films, Claymation is the true type of
animation Burton uses in Corpse Bride. Claymation is a form of animation using special techniques to
snap different frames at once to allow it to produce an animated effect called slow motion animation.
Many contemporary animators adhere to Claymation due to its unique and realistic characteristics.
Films that use Claymation animation include modern movies such as Coraline (2009) or even older
films such as Gumbasia (1955). Due to the extensive amount of work and time each Claymation film

Essay about In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje
In the Skin of a Lion, by Michael Ondaatje
In the novel, In the Skin of a Lion, by Michael Ondaatje, the main character, Patrick Lewis, searches
for identity and light. Without these elements, he lacks love and cannot survive the world. A passage
in chapter three describes him as a lonely man that is isolated from the world around him. Clara and
Ambrose and Alice and Temelcoff and Cato this cluster made up a drama without him. And he himself
was noting but a prism that refracted their lives. He searched out things, he collected things. He was

He has no purpose in life; he just searches. The thing that he is looking for is light. This ambiguous
concept of light Ondaatje presents throughout the novel is not ordinary light, but one that illuminates
the void of darkness. Just like the moths that Patrick is intrigued by that only tend toward light at
night, Patrick only seeks light when there is none around him. Patrick continues his eternal search for
light because he has none of his own to emit.
The central theme behind many stories is the loss and regaining of identity. Patrick has no identity of
his own, and his only way of gaining a temporary one is through light. And he himself was nothing but
a prism that refracted their lives. (Ondaatje, pg.157) A prism, by definition, refracts light into a
spectrum of colors. Correspondingly, Patrick contorts other characters identities as his own. The
readers are introduced to this concept of reflecting light even before the novel begins. This is indicated
by, (D)riving the four hours to Marmora under six stars and a moon. Patrick is the moon; he can only
reflect a star s light. When reflecting light from the six stars, the main characters in the novel, Patrick
is able to gain a temporary identity. This is what Patrick is searching for his true identity. Throughout
the novel, Patrick becomes like the people he associates with, and he gains a temporary identity and
purpose. He takes on Alice s quest to dissolve the

you have gum disease because it can be painless. If you have tender or bleeding gums, receding gums

The mouth is full of bacteria that will gradually form a sticky substance called plaque. Brushing and
flossing help remove plaque, but it is not possible to remove it all. The plaque that is not removed
turns into a hard substance called tartar that can only be removed with a professional cleaning by a

The sail stands about 20 feet high. It holds the periscopes and the radar and radio antennas. The top of
the sail also serves as the bridge, from which the captain directs the submarine when on surface. Steel
fins called diving planes stick out from both sides of the sail or bow and from the stern.
These diving planes guide the ship to different depths. One or two propellers in the stern drive the
submarine, also rudders above and below the propellers steer the craft. The earliest inventors had no
other way but manpower to propel their submarines. Initially, this involved oars, then came propellers

endurance and required the submarine to return to the port to recharge, which was tactically
unacceptable. There were also a number of attempts to harness steam, not only for surface propulsion,
but also to provide power when submerged, using stored energy devises, but none worked
satisfactorily.Eventually it was realized that the solution was to combine the efficiency of the batteries
for underwater propulsion and some form of power which could be used on the surface, both to propel
the submarine and recharge its batteries.

Junot Diaz Crash Short Story
Junot Diaz Drown universe is one filled with insecurities that disturbs the closest relationship that the

relationships include conjugal violence, denial of adultery and possible denial of sexual orientation.
The first story that analyses the question of personal baggage affecting romantic relationship is Fiesta,

The Effect The Molarity Of Sucrose Solution Has On Osmolarity
Title: The effect the molarity of sucrose solution has on osmolarity
Introduction: Passive transport occurs when substances move from high concentration areas to a lower
concentration region. Both Diffusion and Osmosis are examples of passive transport, however,
osmosis is when water molecules move across a selectively permeable membrane. The plasma
membrane, being a thin barrier to outside environment, is a selectively permeable membrane. Thus, it
only allows certain particles to enter or exit the cell. A selectively permeable membrane is important

(encyclopedia ,n.d.). The movement of substance across a membrane is caused by two factors, their
size and charge (Pearson Education, 2008). If a substance is small and nonpolar it can easily move but
if it s large and polar, it will have difficulty traveling across the membrane. For example, the
selectively permeable membrane allows water, which is known as solvent, to move freely but prevents
large molecules such as sugar molecules from passing through; the sugar molecules are known as
solute (BBC, 2014).
However, facilitated diffusion can help the molecules that cannot pass through the cell membrane by

  • 2. The Machiavellian Approach to Management Essay The Machiavellian Approach to Management Whether you love him/her or hate him/her everybody has one...a boss. Most people have their own opinions as to what kind of boss it is that they would like to work for. Most would probably agree that the worst kind of boss is a new boss. This is more than likely due to people s extraordinary fear of change and the unknown. Whatever the reason, the employee always has the option to leave their position and seek work elsewhere. The same can not be said for subjects of states, who by no action of their own, were to be ruled by a new prince. Just as varied as the ways in which one inherits a new boss, likewise new principalities have an abundance of ways of being acquired. Niccolo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adding fuel to an already explosive situation, by making changes to company policy should be avoided at all costs. However, as Machiavelli suggests that a boss by birth [has] less need to harm his[/her] employees, thus putting some of the fears towards the new boss to rest (8). When a principality is acquired through an acquisition of a non hostile nature, it is the prince who may have fears. The prince of a mixed principality faces more difficulties than those of a hereditary principality. Machiavelli suggests that these difficulties derive from one natural problem inherent in all new principalities: men gladly change their masters, thinking to better themselves (8). Additionally, the new prince is, out of necessity, going to offend his new subjects by bringing in his soldiers and [causing] other countless injuries that are involved in his new conquest (8). These same problems will face the management of a newly acquired business. Those employees that are retained will automatically look to better their current position by less than honest means. Those left over from the old regime may be inclined to steal from the company out of fear that they may soon be replaced. Thus, endangering the already financially unstable situation that an acquisition puts a company in. Therefore, measures must be taken to ensure that the state/company not be lost due to an uprising by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Interpersonal Communication Analysis It is noticed how one s intrapersonal communication can impact their interpersonal communication. This can be experienced throughout many aspects and specific examples of ones self communication and communication with others, which can be expressed through experiences in lab seminar as well as personal experiences. Firstly, this is seen throughout my own self as I compare myself to others, and feel as if I am always the inferior. Secondly, my ability to grow from a closed off, shy individual to a more open, outgoing person has impacted my communication with others tremendously. Thirdly, my ability to empathize with people is my area of strength and listening, as well as maintaining eye contact, are areas I need to improve on. Lastly, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I believe there are several interpersonal communication skills that I am good at, as well as some skills that I need to improve on. I believe that I am good at empathizing during communication. As Steven A. Beebe (2015) states, Empathy is an emotional reaction that is similar to the one being experienced by another person, (p. 126). With this being said, when someone cries, I begin to feel my eyes start to well up with tears. This is something that has always been a part of me since I was a young child. In comparison, when relating to my lab seminar group, I know I need to work on my listening skills as well as maintaining eye contact while listening. I find myself getting distracted easily, which results in not being able to fully understand the entire meaning of the message that my partner is communicating. I find it difficult to maintain eye contact throughout the whole conversation, as it feels awkward. These interpersonal communication skills relate directly to offering constructive ... • 4. The War Of The World War I It s been over a century since Austria declared war on Serbia. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914, sparked a war that was to end all others. It clearly did not. Countless wars and conflicts have been fought since, each evolving into something different than the last. As a result, modern warfare has evolved into something completely different than that of a century ago. Although war is fought for fundamentally the same reasons, warfare, as it is practiced today, is different from that of World War I. This is primarily due to the rise of counterinsurgency operations, the focus on air superiority and the use of technology, such as unmanned aerial vehicles, which have led to the decline of mass army against army war. Characterized by the declaration of war, the amassing of vast battlefield formations, and the use of new technologies, such as the machine gun and airplane, World War I was the epitome of conventional war. The myriad of alliances across Europe in the early 20th century allowed military leaders to carefully craft offensive plans of war focused on the weaknesses of known enemies and designed to swiftly defeat opposing military forces. For example, Germany s Schlieffen Plan assumed that the Reich could only win a two front war by crushing France before Russia could mobilize. • 5. The Kernel Of Roman Society Rosemaria Varghese HUMA 4312 Critical Paper II Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society Introduction In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave. Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). The destiny that Aeneas is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Is A Probable Cause a. I would try to get a search warrant. Besides that and making sure the suspect knows he can have a lawyer present, I would try to get more information out of him. In this case, the probable cause (or more than reasonable suspicion) would be the incriminating statements. • 10. The Fundamental Process of Turning Sugar in Energy One of the most fundamental processes of life is the ability to turn sugar into energy. Our cells have the ability to carry out this process both aerobically and anaerobically. Although anaerobic respiration does not produce the amount of energy that aerobic respiration does; it is still a very important process, because it allows cells to turn sugar into useable energy in the absence of oxygen. (Lab 15: Fermentation Experiments: Background) This is done though a process called fermentation. Fermentation consists of glycolysis plus reactions that regenerate NAD+ by transferring electrons from NADH to pyruvate. (Campbell and Reece 173 178) There are many different types but we happen to be interested in alcohol fermentation, which is carried out by bacteria and yeast. (Reiner) In alcohol fermentation sugar is broken down and turned into carbon dioxide and ethanol. Knowing this we can measure the amount of carbon dioxide produced and get an idea of how quickly the reaction is running. (Campbell and Reece 173 178) Glucose is one of the most abundant carbohydrates on earth and therefore is generally the sugar involved in fermentation. (Ophardt) It is a monosaccharide with a six membered ring structure ( Simple Sugars: Fructose, glucose and sucrose ) Fructose and sucrose are two other common simple sugars found in many of the foods we eat. Cyrano De Bergerac Qualities Justifying The Qualities of Characters in Cyrano de Bergerac In the story of Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, there are people who solely focus on the aesthetics of others instead of the personality or quality of the individual. Though it seems completely innocent, they can only hurt themselves, and the people close to them. Cyrano de Bergerac presents the theme of love as an umbrella to the motifs of precieuse, and platonic love, Rostand conveys the message that judging people on external beauty, and making reality bend to one s desires can lead to self harm, and heartbreak. When a person is a precieuse, they alter reality, and facts to their liking, however this can only achieve sorrow, and despair upon oneself. In Act two of Cyrano ... That skill, that courage got the girl. You re half way there. Now dare to speak. Cyrano responds So she can laugh at this? Why, man, there s nothing that I fear more in this world... (31). These quotes not only show that Cyrano is very self conscious of his nose, but he does not even attempt speak, meet with, or make contact with Roxane, unless asked to. This decision by Cyrano might be one of the most fatal decision in his life because he did not tell Roxane how he felt about her before she claimed that she had fallen in love with Christian. However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he was forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in his cultural identity. At the same time, they allowed him to create a broader identity, because he saw the connections between himself and other cultures (such as Turkish and Jewish cultures of the time.) The second crucial factor in determining the cultural identity, and is shown in The Interesting Narrative, is the time that one is exposed to a culture. The thing that he is looking for is light. This ambiguous concept of light Ondaatje presents throughout the novel is not ordinary light, but one that illuminates the void of darkness. Just like the moths that Patrick is intrigued by that only tend toward light at night, Patrick only seeks light when there is none around him. Patrick continues his eternal search for light because he has none of his own to emit. The central theme behind many stories is the loss and regaining of identity. Patrick has no identity of his own, and his only way of gaining a temporary one is through light. And he himself was nothing but a prism that refracted their lives. (Ondaatje, pg.157) A prism, by definition, refracts light into a spectrum of colors. Correspondingly, Patrick contorts other characters identities as his own. The readers are introduced to this concept of reflecting light even before the novel begins. This is indicated by, (D)riving the four hours to Marmora under six stars and a moon. Patrick is the moon; he can only reflect a star s light. When reflecting light from the six stars, the main characters in the novel, Patrick is able to gain a temporary identity. Steel fins called diving planes stick out from both sides of the sail or bow and from the stern. These diving planes guide the ship to different depths. One or two propellers in the stern drive the submarine, also rudders above and below the propellers steer the craft. The earliest inventors had no other way but manpower to propel their submarines. Initially, this involved oars, then came propellers turned by hand, either by a single person, as in David Bushnell s Turtle². Or by several people turning a crank, as in a Confederate Hunley and the German Brandtaucher (meaning Incendiary Diver ) in the mid 19th Century compressed air was used as were electrical accumulators, both were of limited endurance and required the submarine to return to the port to recharge, which was tactically unacceptable. There were also a number of attempts to harness steam, not only for surface propulsion, but also to provide power when submerged, using stored energy devises, but none worked satisfactorily.Eventually it was realized that the solution was to combine the efficiency of the batteries for underwater propulsion and some form of power which could be used on the surface, both to propel the submarine and recharge its batteries. • 43. The Effect The Molarity Of Sucrose Solution Has On Osmolarity Title: The effect the molarity of sucrose solution has on osmolarity Introduction: Passive transport occurs when substances move from high concentration areas to a lower concentration region. Both Diffusion and Osmosis are examples of passive transport, however, osmosis is when water molecules move across a selectively permeable membrane. The plasma membrane, being a thin barrier to outside environment, is a selectively permeable membrane. Thus, it only allows certain particles to enter or exit the cell. A selectively permeable membrane is important because it protects the cell from certain materials that can potentially be toxic to the cell by not allowing the cell to diffuse uniformly; this means that not all particles can equally facilitate to the cell (encyclopedia ,n.d.). The movement of substance across a membrane is caused by two factors, their size and charge (Pearson Education, 2008). If a substance is small and nonpolar it can easily move but if it s large and polar, it will have difficulty traveling across the membrane. For example, the selectively permeable membrane allows water, which is known as solvent, to move freely but prevents large molecules such as sugar molecules from passing through; the sugar molecules are known as solute (BBC, 2014). However, facilitated diffusion can help the molecules that cannot pass through the cell membrane by themselves. Facilitated diffusion can help these molecules due specialize proteins such as the channel protein and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
