Donatellos David Essay
Donatellos David
Donatello was one of the most important and influential artists of the fifteenth century. As a master
artist, he sculpted some of the most beautiful pieces of the Italian Renaissance. His innovations
impacted many artists of his time, and set the standard for centuries of sculptors to follow. Donatello s
style is clearly defined and easily recognized in nearly all of his pieces. An exception is the bronze,
David, dated 1425 1430. David strays from the traditional style of Donatello with reference to style,
form, and medium. Historians speculate on the reasons for this breakthrough with regards to Donatello
s philosophies and life experiences, questioning his brief return to the classical style, as well as the ...

His arms are slightly long for his body, and the muscles not as developed as those of a man. His waist
is small, and the form of his ribs is sculpted enough to know that he is lacking muscle definition. His
stomach seems to pop out a little bit, perhaps suggesting the baby fat that he has yet to work off. He
has one hand resting limply on his hip, while his other rests on a sword handle. His hair is shoulder
length and slightly untamed, while a hat rests slightly tilted atop his head. His head is tilted slightly
downward, and a slight upward bend in his lip looks almost like a building smile. One leg is straight,
supporting his weight, while the other is propped on the head of the slain Goliath. The bends of his
limbs are very natural, and the attention to detail exemplifies Donatello s understanding of human
anatomy. A closer look at the sculpture, however, reveals the details that set it apart from other works
of the master.
Donatello, considered a master of the nude, cared little to produce them in his sculptures. David, an
exception to his previous work, would be completely naked if not for his boots and hat. A hint of
romantic charm lies in the figure s hat. A broad brim garlanded with bay leaves, the hat throws David s
face into a deep shadow and seems to suggest the simple life of a shepherd. The whole pose of David
is inert, tame and non threatening, despite the severed head beneath

The Roman Aqueduct System
A common theme noticed in the architectural history of Rome is the use of arches. Whether used for
their quality and bolster, or raised for their fancy magnificence, evidence of ancient Rome s love for
the arch has lasted throughout history. One of the more famous employments of curves in Roman
building design is found in the Roman aqueduct system. A fascinating waterway system designed to
carry fresh water from the surrounding highlands into the heart of the city, the aqueduct system was
considered highly advanced for its time. The invention and use of aqueducts helped to shape the
culture and mold a way of life for ancient Rome. The system of bringing fresh water into needy areas
was not an original invention of the Romans. Other cultures, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From personal usage to the opulence of Rome s bath facilities and ornamental fountains, the city of

of use throughout the centuries, as well as today (Biemiller, para. 2). The intricate, decorative arches

For some eras and numerous decades, the idea of the American dream has guaranteed democratic

New families drove the requirement for lodging and William Levitt was the first to jump on this
opportunity. He drove the increase of rural areas with his reasonably priced mass created homes. From
1946 to 1958 GNP more than doubled. The creation of interstate mega highways, freeways and the
ensuring of home advances for suburban one family homes helped boost industries. With openings for
the opportunity to receive an education given by the G.I. Bill and the advancements in various
industries, a road was paved to economic prosperity. However, this prosperity was not shared with all
as millions were left poor. Farmers, African Americans and other minorities existed at levels beneath
those necessary for human decency, and were often left without adequate housing and education and
medical care, which left them lacking the civil right of equal opportunity.
The politics of the 1950 s included the start of our Cold War with Russia, the Korean War,
McCarthyism and the domestic civil rights movement. After World War II, Russia and the United

I Am Number Four Book Report
I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore is about a boy named Number Four. Number Four and eight
others escaped their planet Lorien, during an invasion. Now, they are in hiding from the people that
destroyed their planet. All is well except, the nine people that escaped had powers and can not be
killed out of order by the people that destroyed their planet. One through three were captured, and
killed and Number Four is next. He has hid his whole life, and he s ready to fight back. He is tired of
hiding and is ready to fight for his planet back.
I found this book to be very entertaining and well written. I really loved how the author wrote about
the invasion throughout the book instead of right in the beginning. I loved how well the characters
were developed. Number Four was developed as a shy kid that isn t afraid to stand up for himself. His
new friend was developed as a paranoid nerd, and lastly, his love interest was developed as a strong,
and independent girl that was an avid photographer and wasn t afraid to stand up for herself. I loved

The Influence Of The Pick Mix Concept
When consumers buy products from a retail shop, they tend to opt to shop the products from a brand
that they have trust in and that is a familiar brand. This means consumers prefer to select a recognised
brand rather than choosing cheaper products or less familiar ones, even if the branded product has the
same quality as the generic products (Goworek McGoldrick, 2015). Thus, brand awareness is a very
important factor that can bring a brand power in connection with people s mind set. However, it might
prove hard to create a high brand awareness for the Pick Mix concept that in general have a low
recognition factor, since this is applied a little different from other retail products in the retail shop.

Currently, Cloetta has its own brand name for the Pick Mix concept; Godisfavoriter for candies which
means candy favorites and Natursnack for nuts which means natural snack (Cloetta, 2015). It should
be examined how much of an effect these names have on consumers brand awareness. If consumers
look at these names in the retail shop for example, in Coop, it will hardly remind them that Cloetta is
connected with these names. Kapferer (2012) points out that [a] brand is not the name of a product. It
is the vision that drives the creation of products and services under that name. That vision, the key
belief of the brand and its core value is called identity (p149). In this point of view, there is a key issue
of how the brand names of Cloetta s Pick Mix concepts can provide the image to consumers so they
can perceive Cloetta s brand as having a unique value by selecting their brand. By comparison with
their main competitor Candy King s Pick Mix, they have the name Karamellkungen which is the same
name translated into Swedish as their company name and same logo as domestically and
internationally. By doing this, they deliver a more distinct vision of their brand connected with the
core brand and it can render some positive brand image effects on consumer s

Career and job ambiguity a feeling of helplessness and lack of control. How can I succeed if I don t

within management. A lot of people think this is a lack of communication from the manager to the
employee, but I feel that it is the responsibility of the employee to seek out what is expected of him or
her. For example, if you get a bad evaluation or raise, simply go to your boss and ask him what you
can do differently over the next year to enable you to get a better evaluation or increase in pay.
No feedback good or bad prevents people from knowing how they are doing and whether they are

the amount, importance, and effectiveness of feedback to employees. Whatever the cause, employees
are easily stressed by lack of communication in this area. This is again something you may not have

Interconnectedness In Let The Great World Spin By Colum...
Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each other
all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know each other or if
we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some way. This
interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point that many might
miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great World Spin, developed a
intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the novel, it is through this that he
unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By doing this, the author develops an
idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and become intertwined with one another in a
way that can change the direction of someone s life; in other words, the people around us, even
strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence us on accident without even knowing it. One
person s decision has many unknown and known effects. First example of how the author uses
connectedness as the point of this novel is how Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the
novel. At the beginning of the novel neither of the two characters know anything about the other s
existence until the car crash that ends Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were
involved in. It is through their grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves
and learn to move on. Had not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we
know, Ciaran and Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the
connection between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which
leads to Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies.
Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their
connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal and
cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it. Both
women are in a support group with other women who are also

The Great Depression Of America
America has been around for many years and during those years people of America have experienced
horrible times and fantastic times. There were the world wars, and there were the roaring twenties
when America was the fastest growing. After the roaring twenties the American economy took a turn
for the worse. After such a prosperous decade, when America went into the depression people were
not ready for such a drastic change. Many people didn t understand how it occurred, but now we have
a better understanding of what happened. Imagine coming off of the highest times in life; Broadway

all of that changes for the worst. One October day the stock market crashed which sent the American
economy into turmoil. In fact, it was one of the major causes that led to the Great Depression. Two
months after the original crash in October, stockholders had lost more than $40 billion dollars. Even
though the stock market began to regain some of its losses, by the end of 1930, it just was not enough
and America truly entered what is called the Great Depression (Kelly. M). After the crash the
American economy was trying to climb back up to what it had once been, but it couldn t because of
the hardships it had endured. People often put all the blame on the president that was in office when
the great depression occurred. President Hoover has become somewhat notorious for trying too hard to

pornographic film, Deep Throat, how that film affected the lives of those involved, and how it shaped
the porn industry of today. Deep Throat was a pornographic film released in 1973. The star of the film,
Linda Lovelace portrayed a woman who was able to reach orgasm by performing oral sex because her

The Allocating of a ‘Named Person for Every Child in...
Introduction
Throughout my seminar paper I will focus on the issues surrounding the governments plan to assign
every child in Scotland a named person . This is one point in the Children and Young Peoples
(Scotland) Bill, that parliament recently debated and passed on the 19th of February this year. The
government believes the bill will promote their ambition for Scotland to be the best place to grow up
in by putting children and young people at the heart of planning and services and ensuring their rights
are respected across the public sector (Scottish Executive, 2013).
To gain insight into the approach in which the named person has stemmed from I will look at the

The approach outlines ten core components and a set of values and principles, which convey
clarification and purpose at a practical level of collaborative working throughout children s services
(Scottish Executive, 2010).
The safeguarding of children is a crucial part of the approach and is also a nationwide, inter agency
responsibility. It applies to every child, with a range of needs. Well defined measures are constantly
required to direct immediate action to guard children. The children and young people s bill will
legalise and take forward the GIRFEC approach to supply children and young people with a named
person , this will hopefully help to safeguard the child and support the family.
The purpose of the Named Person
The named person is allocated to make sure services are coordinated where required, to assist and
support a child or young person. Lanarkshire s Practice Guide, 2012 outlines the purpose of the
Named Person as being a way to support children, families and practitioners by introducing an
agreeable method of communication. It would focus on takeing advantage of the regular contact,
relationships and knowledge about each child within maternity, public health and education.
The role of the Named Person
Most children get all the help and support they need from their family, teachers, health practitioners
and the wider community, but some may need additional support and that is where the named person
steps in.
They are likely to be

evolve physically, mentally, and emotionally. With this growth we have become better equipped to
handle many situations that we once found difficult to understand and treat, such as mental conditions.
With the rise in the number of people diagnosed with a mental condition, society has become more
interested in studying the causes and possible treatments of these conditions. Not only are mental

Examples Of Irony In The Labyrinth
When I first watched the Labyrinth it was like being in a movie. The Labyrinth is a great example of a
literary device called irony to show surprise. There are three types of literary devices known as irony
to show surprise and I am going to show you irony by using the movie Labyrinth by Jim Henson.
To start with, verbal irony is irony in the form of words, but means the opposite of what is said. In the
Labyrinth Jareth tells Sarah fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave which is an example
of verbal irony. Sarah tells Jareth piece of cake, but means that the Labyrinth is really hard. Towards
the end of the movie sarah says that is how it s done, but needs her friends help. Additionally, dramatic
irony is stuff we know

Lab 5 Introduction: Enzymes
Question #1: How does the concentration of substrate affect the reaction rate?
1. If the amount of concentration of substrate is increased, the reaction rate will be also be increased.
2. Enzymes are used to regulate the rate of certain reactions without being chemically altered by the
reaction itself. After each reaction process, the enzymes will separate from the product and can
continue to be reused over and over again to catalyze other reactions. The reaction rate of enzymes
will increase significantly if the concentration of substrate is increased because a higher concentration
of substrate will allow enzymes bind to substrate particles more rapidly. ... Show more content on

As mentioned in question two, pH is another important factor regarding how active an enzyme could
be. Although not all enzymes have the same optical pH levels, a majority of enzymes work the most
effectively when the pH of their environment is between six and eight. If most enzymes are put in
more acidic or alkaline environment, the enzymes would no longer function and would be irreversibly
damaged. For example, the enzymes would not form the proper shape to bond with the substrates or
they would not be able to bond with the substrates. As a result, the imbalance of the pH level would
inhibit the rate of reaction since reactions would no longer be able to

The Role Of Black Students In Today s Society
In today s society, family has become a very relevant issue amongst Black Canadians. Ideally, Blacks
would enjoy having a nuclear family as most would however, in many cases immigrants often have
transnational families which sometimes results in children having single parents. Not only does this
put them at an economic disadvantage, this also leaves children without a true sense of security and
family, which according to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, prohibits them progressing towards meeting
all of their needs. Moreover, in the educational realm, Black students are adversely impacted by the
scarcity of identifiable Black role models within their own schools. This in part impacts their future as

This is most noticeable in the song White Ferrari where Ocean sings in a rhythm that sounds almost
identical to the popular song Here, There, and Everywhere by The Beatles. The album starts off with
Nikes, a slow, hypnotic song, featuring high pitched vocals from Ocean, and a very dreamy sound,
somewhat creating a mood for the rest of the album. The next songs, Ivy and Pink and White, are
polar opposites about love, where in Ivy, Ocean talks about how he failed to keep a relationship going
on, and in Pink and White he sings about intimate love and good long term relationships. The album
also contains skits like Be Yourself where Frank s mother leaves a phone call for him telling him not

smoking marijuana, and a skit called Facebook Story, about a man who lost his wife because he didn t

Netflix s Dominance Of Our Homes And Screens
Abstract
Netflix started the campaign on a positive note by capturing a larger customer base with DVD by mail
business. The success was short lived due to increasing logistics and inventory cost. Also with the
advent of digital era, DVD by mail fell out of favor. Netflix figured out the loophole and decided to
tap into the online streaming market with content marketing. With exciting new features, constant
updates and recent expansion of customer base by providing its streaming services in India, Netflix

My Best Vacation
The best vacation ever! my cousin Vicky screamed from the bed next to me. I was just trying to fall
sleep, but she kept talking most of the night with her twin sister Emma. We all have the same age, and
this is the first vacation we have without parents, aunts, and uncles around, telling us what to do. We
arrived to Los Angeles, California at 11:00 pm, checked into the hotel and tried to rest. The next day
we planned to drive around the city and wait for our friend Annette, who was coming from Texas.
Annette was around twenty years old, but she had been traveling around the world with her father
since she was 13. I admire her, she is funny, has a good temper, and is really knowledgeable about
traveling. We are going to fly together to Mexico City first, and from there to Acapulco. We planned to
go to La Quebrada , it s a place in Acapulco where people do cliff diving. We had done some research
about it. The divers have to climb the cliff and do a freestyle jump into the water. We couldn t wait to
be there, Annette was going to be really happy too, she used to compete in platform diving when she
was in high school. The hotel room phone rang pretty early the next day. Our parents checking on us,
making sure we were ok. Emma talked to her mother and assured her that everything was ok and that
we will be careful driving around. It was funny, I looked at her facial expressions meanwhile she is
talking, and Emma rolls the eyes and nods a lot. Emma is the opposite of his sister Vicky. Vicky talks
a lot but she s a scary cat, on the other hand, Emma is quieter but really adventurous. Liz, my uncle
wants you on the phone! Emma announced. I picked up the phone and got myself ready for the
lecture. My father was concerned that we were going alone to Mexico. I promised that we were going
to stay in Acapulco a couple of days and go back to California. Don t do stupid things my father
continued, and, take care of each other. Annette arrived at midday, we were happy to see each other
again. We decided to go the movies. We say the premier of Batman Returns , the line at the movie
theater was extremely long, but we were so excited that the next day we will be flying to Mexico that

Papers On Psalm 22
Psalms is the biggest book of the Old Testament. It is rich with many wonderful teachings along with
love and praise for God. The pages are bound with every type of emotion from grief to elated worship.
Anyone from any culture, race, or section of society can find common ground with at least one psalm.
We can also use the Psalms in many different situations whether that be for a community of people or
for ourselves. The book Dictionary of the Old Testament: Wisdom, Poetry Writings explains this on
page 579, The psalms have remained a central fixture for corporate worship and private devotion over
the centuries. Readers have been enamored by their poetic language, rich imagery and stark honesty.
Moreover, there are many different genres ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this section, we will be reviewing Psalms 22. Although a lament psalm may seem dark and
negative, it can actually be very a beneficial prayer to God. Steven I. Lawson explains the importance
of this genre in his book Psalms 1 75, These highly emotionally charged psalms record the writer s
heart cry to God for divine deliverance from the psalmist s trouble and pain. As humans, we are not
able to control the emotions that we feel and at what extent we feel them. Meanwhile, we are able to
control our actions. Psalm 22:12 14 reads, Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle
me. Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me. I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me . In my case, I
bottled up my emotions from a very young age. I would make a point not to show my sadness what so
ever. When I entered my teenage years this backlashed. Due to the fact that I had no outlet for my
emotions, I found another. I started cutting myself at the age of 15. I did not know why I did. In the
meantime, I was so confused. Hundreds of conflicting emotions filled my heart like they do to any
other teenage. I was terrified that my parents would find out that I cut in places where no one would
see. It was not until two years later that I found out that self harm was a sin. On the other hand, a safer
less sinful way of dealing with our emotions is reading lament prayers. Davida Charney states in his
article Maintaining Innocence Before a Divine Hearer, For those seeing the psalms as therapeutic, the
laments record moment by moment turns in emotion; a despairing individual is eventually enabled to
affirm faith in God We can also see that the passage moves into praise after the writer is finished
grieving: You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him,
all you descendants of Israel! For he

Managing Negative Emotions After An Employee Layoff
Dismissal Meeting: Managing Negative Emotions after an Employee Layoff For manager across the
world laying off employees is the best way to lower cost when the economy or business declines.
Laying off employee is a difficult decision and many times within companies or organization they will
try other methods of cutting cost before deciding to lay off employee(s). It is very important for
employers to be prepared when initiating a layoff. The factors that lead up to the decision of laying off
the particular employee(s) must be addressed and explained thoroughly. Manager can be more
efficient with tackling the purpose of the layoff if their explanation is supported with all the concrete
facts along with performance reviews and documented coaching opportunities with the employee(s) in
question. For example, if an organization has to layoff an employee(s) due performance issues, then
the performance issues in the past should be documented. These documents will support and provide
solid justifications as to why the decision is the best action for the business. However, sometimes
employee(s) that are being laid off really could care less of what the best resolution to lower cost for
the company is, because they are now unemployed. To some employee(s) being laid off might come as
a surprise and unexpected. Once layoff is initiated the news can spread around the business like a
wildfire and provide many negative emotions throughout the organization.

The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Waao Analysis
Love and tragedy come together neither can be separated from each other. The violence of the past can
arouse from the dead, and eat alive a new life. Indeed, replacing a tragedy with another one is harmful,
but it brings peace at the end. Violence is a very complex term that brings up the darkness of the
human world, whether physical or mental, it attacks both ways. In the Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar
Wao, author Junot Diaz employs the theme that in the wrong hands, power leads to violence, which
can produce both exterior and interior pain, ultimately causing destruction or even death. Through
aphorism, euphemism, direct characterization, realism, anadiplosis, appeal to emotion and anecdotes,
Diaz defines the non existent limits of evil in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack had everything His father was a colonel while his mother was a former beauty queen , therefore
the poor child was an unbearable loudmouthed cockiness (Diaz 89 90). Trujillo without knowing
created a monster with his legacy that was in the near future going to follow the same steps as his
father. The Trujillato caused death, even to the most calm and innocent who simply wanted to voice
their opinions, which happened in the case of Mauricio Lesdeme. Mauricio wrote in a school essay
that [He] would like to see our country be a democracia...wish we would stop having
dictatorships...Trujillo...killed Galindez (Diaz 96), ultimately the braveness and courage demonstrated
by the teenager caused both he and the teacher[to be] gone. No one saying nothing (Diaz 97). The use
of euphemism in the book employs the idea that the main character, Oscar, is trapped between two
worlds, but it is mainly a source of the author to prove his identity to the readers. In the end, Trujillo s
power is now centered upon the immense stories that have traveled through time and space to depict
who he was, and what he has done.
Indeed, perfection doesn t exist just how like how aliens don t exist either, therefore Diaz utilizes
realism, direct characterization, and the appeal to emotion to convey his point.. When I was a child, I
used to think that people who suffered were the ones who deserved it, but life is not an imaginary

Earth is our one and only home. Without it, life as we know it would not be sustainable. We, this

the Earth. These generations have done this because they have done very little to nothing to fix the
problem of global warming. More often than not, people are ignorant of the global warming situation
because they know nothing about global warming and its effects on the planet. What is global

The study indicated a significant decline in the amount of summer snowfall. With this information,
they determined that the decline was most likely the result of snow changing into a different rain.
Although one might question if this result might have been because of the lack of precipitation, they
determined that there was not a significant influence of decrease in the total amount of precipitation in
the areas. As they looked back to annual data collected and the data that was recently collected, they
determined statistically that 99% of the summer snowfall decline is linked to Arctic Warming over the
past two decades (Screen and Simmons). They continue by explaining with more of these greenhouse
gases that the solar input to the Arctic Ocean has increased (Screen and Simmons). Each of these

stemmed just from greenhouse gases caused by global warming.

Little Bison Basin Prehistory
Little Bison Basin Prehistory Prior to the last ice age, the entire region of the Great Plains is believed
to have been an inland sea known as the Western Interior Seaway. As this seaway receded, large
animals including mammoths and saber toothed tigers lived in the area. The majority of these animals
became extinct to the region around 13,000 years ago during one of the ice ages. The great plains are a
vast region of North America that spreads from Canada nearly down to the Coast of Texas. This region
is comprised of primarily flat grounds with the exceptions of the larger mountain ranges including the
Rockies. Within this region is the Little Bison Basin, a stretch of the Great Plains where glacial rivers
feed into the larger Whiskey River. Nevin Feneman in his 1916 study defines this region as, The term
Great Plains , for the region west of about the 96th or 98th meridian and east of the Rocky Mountains,
was not generally used before the early 20th century. As vast as the region is, there are many trends
that run throughout not the least of which is the obvious glacial carving. The Little Bison Basin has a
relatively new history shrouded in mystery and revealed through its many glaciers and carved out
regions. Prior to and into the ice age, this entire region was a frozen wasteland, lifeless and barren. In
fact, it was so barren that no people had even ventured into the area. During the last ice age, however,

Volleyball Is A Popular Sport Across The World For Both
Volleyball is a popular sport across the world for both males and females, whether it be competitively
or recreationally (Mitchinson, 2013). The objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and
have it land inside the opponents court. However, to even start the game or rally, one must serve the
ball from their side of the court to the other side of the court. This then gives the teams an opportunity
to score a point. Therefore, serving is one of the most important skills in volleyball since it is one of
the few ways to continue to score points (Seminati, 2015). A type of serve often is the overhand serve.
This serve requires the subject to toss the ball with one hand and contact the ball with the opposite

Donatellos David Essay DonatellosDavid Donatello was one of the most important and influential artists of the fifteenth century. As a master artist, he sculpted some of the most beautiful pieces of the Italian Renaissance. His innovations impacted many artists of his time, and set the standard for centuries of sculptors to follow. Donatello s style is clearly defined and easily recognized in nearly all of his pieces. An exception is the bronze, David, dated 1425 1430. David strays from the traditional style of Donatello with reference to style, form, and medium. Historians speculate on the reasons for this breakthrough with regards to Donatello s philosophies and life experiences, questioning his brief return to the classical style, as well as the ... His head is tilted slightly downward, and a slight upward bend in his lip looks almost like a building smile. One leg is straight, supporting his weight, while the other is propped on the head of the slain Goliath. The bends of his limbs are very natural, and the attention to detail exemplifies Donatello s understanding of human anatomy. Donatello, considered a master of the nude, cared little to produce them in his sculptures. David, an exception to his previous work, would be completely naked if not for his boots and hat. I Am NumberFour Book Report I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore is about a boy named Number Four. Number Four and eight others escaped their planet Lorien, during an invasion. Now, they are in hiding from the people that destroyed their planet. All is well except, the nine people that escaped had powers and can not be killed out of order by the people that destroyed their planet. One through three were captured, and killed and Number Four is next. He has hid his whole life, and he s ready to fight back. He is tired of hiding and is ready to fight for his planet back. I found this book to be very entertaining and well written. I really loved how the author wrote about the invasion throughout the book instead of right in the beginning. I loved how well the characters were developed. Number Four was developed as a shy kid that isn t afraid to stand up for himself. His new friend was developed as a paranoid nerd, and lastly, his love interest was developed as a strong, and independent girl that was an avid photographer and wasn t afraid to stand up for herself. The Influence OfThe Pick Mix Concept When consumers buy products from a retail shop, they tend to opt to shop the products from a brand that they have trust in and that is a familiar brand. This means consumers prefer to select a recognised brand rather than choosing cheaper products or less familiar ones, even if the branded product has the same quality as the generic products (Goworek McGoldrick, 2015). Thus, brand awareness is a very important factor that can bring a brand power in connection with people s mind set. If consumers look at these names in the retail shop for example, in Coop, it will hardly remind them that Cloetta is connected with these names. How can I succeed if I don t know what s expected of me or if my job here is uncertain? Stress levels are affected by vagueness within management. A lot of people think this is a lack of communication from the manager to the employee, but I feel that it is the responsibility of the employee to seek out what is expected of him or her. For example, if you get a bad evaluation or raise, simply go to your boss and ask him what you can do differently over the next year to enable you to get a better evaluation or increase in pay. No feedback good or bad prevents people from knowing how they are doing and whether they are meeting expectations. Stress related to this issue is typically one of management misperception as to the amount, importance, and effectiveness of feedback to employees. Whatever the cause, employees are easily stressed by lack of communication in this area. Interconnectedness In LetThe Great World Spin By Colum... Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each other all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know each other or if we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some way. This interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point that many might miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great World Spin, developed a intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the novel, it is through this that he unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By doing this, the author develops an idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and become intertwined with one another in a way that can change the direction of someone s life; in other words, the people around us, even strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence us on accident without even knowing it. One person s decision has many unknown and known effects. First example of how the author uses connectedness as the point of this novel is how Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the novel. At the beginning of the novel neither of the two characters know anything about the other s existence until the car crash that ends Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were involved in. It is through their grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves and learn to move on. Had not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we know, Ciaran and Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the connection between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which leads to Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies. Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal and cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it. The Great DepressionOf America America has been around for many years and during those years people of America have experienced horrible times and fantastic times. There were the world wars, and there were the roaring twenties when America was the fastest growing. After the roaring twenties the American economy took a turn for the worse. After such a prosperous decade, when America went into the depression people were not ready for such a drastic change. Many people didn t understand how it occurred, but now we have a better understanding of what happened. Imagine coming off of the highest times in life; Broadway shows every night, everyone dressed up in suits and dresses, everything going great and within a day all of that changes for the worst. One October day the stock market crashed which sent the American economy into turmoil. In fact, it was one of the major causes that led to the Great Depression. Two months after the original crash in October, stockholders had lost more than $40 billion dollars. Even though the stock market began to regain some of its losses, by the end of 1930, it just was not enough and America truly entered what is called the Great Depression (Kelly. M). After the crash the American economy was trying to climb back up to what it had once been, but it couldn t because of the hardships it had endured. This is one point in the Children and Young Peoples (Scotland) Bill, that parliament recently debated and passed on the 19th of February this year. The government believes the bill will promote their ambition for Scotland to be the best place to grow up in by putting children and young people at the heart of planning and services and ensuring their rights are respected across the public sector (Scottish Executive, 2013). Enzyme Lab Report WilliamFung TA: Gayani Batugedara Bio 1LA, Monday 4 7pm Lab 5 Introduction: Enzymes Question #1: How does the concentration of substrate affect the reaction rate? 1. If the amount of concentration of substrate is increased, the reaction rate will be also be increased. 2. Enzymes are used to regulate the rate of certain reactions without being chemically altered by the reaction itself. After each reaction process, the enzymes will separate from the product and can continue to be reused over and over again to catalyze other reactions. The reaction rate of enzymes will increase significantly if the concentration of substrate is increased because a higher concentration of substrate will allow enzymes bind to substrate particles more rapidly. ... Although not all enzymes have the same optical pH levels, a majority of enzymes work the most effectively when the pH of their environment is between six and eight. The Role OfBlack Students In Today s Society In today s society, family has become a very relevant issue amongst Black Canadians. Ideally, Blacks would enjoy having a nuclear family as most would however, in many cases immigrants often have transnational families which sometimes results in children having single parents. Not only does this put them at an economic disadvantage, this also leaves children without a true sense of security and family, which according to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, prohibits them progressing towards meeting all of their needs. Moreover, in the educational realm, Black students are adversely impacted by the scarcity of identifiable Black role models within their own schools. This is most noticeable in the song White Ferrari where Ocean sings in a rhythm that sounds almost identical to the popular song Here, There, and Everywhere by The Beatles. The album starts off with Nikes, a slow, hypnotic song, featuring high pitched vocals from Ocean, and a very dreamy sound, somewhat creating a mood for the rest of the album. The next songs, Ivy and Pink and White, are polar opposites about love, where in Ivy, Ocean talks about how he failed to keep a relationship going on, and in Pink and White he sings about intimate love and good long term relationships. The album also contains skits like Be Yourself where Frank s mother leaves a phone call for him telling him not to consume alcohol, not to get in the car with someone who has consumed alcohol, or is impaired by smoking marijuana, and a skit called Facebook Story, about a man who lost his wife because he didn t friend her on Facebook. Although short, this skit has a powerful message: social media can and will destroy long built relationships with somebody you love. The highlights of the album come from songs like Solo, a gospel influenced song with somewhat of an Adele influence. My Best Vacation Thebest vacation ever! my cousin Vicky screamed from the bed next to me. I was just trying to fall sleep, but she kept talking most of the night with her twin sister Emma. We all have the same age, and this is the first vacation we have without parents, aunts, and uncles around, telling us what to do. We arrived to Los Angeles, California at 11:00 pm, checked into the hotel and tried to rest. The next day we planned to drive around the city and wait for our friend Annette, who was coming from Texas. Annette was around twenty years old, but she had been traveling around the world with her father since she was 13. I admire her, she is funny, has a good temper, and is really knowledgeable about traveling. We are going to fly together to Mexico City first, and from there to Acapulco. We planned to go to La Quebrada , it s a place in Acapulco where people do cliff diving. We had done some research about it. The divers have to climb the cliff and do a freestyle jump into the water. We couldn t wait to be there, Annette was going to be really happy too, she used to compete in platform diving when she was in high school. The hotel room phone rang pretty early the next day. Our parents checking on us, making sure we were ok. Emma talked to her mother and assured her that everything was ok and that we will be careful driving around. It was funny, I looked at her facial expressions meanwhile she is talking, and Emma rolls the eyes and nods a lot. Emma is the opposite of his sister Vicky. Vicky talks a lot but she s a scary cat, on the other hand, Emma is quieter but really adventurous. Liz, my uncle wants you on the phone! Emma announced. I picked up the phone and got myself ready for the lecture. My father was concerned that we were going alone to Mexico. I promised that we were going to stay in Acapulco a couple of days and go back to California. Don t do stupid things my father continued, and, take care of each other. Annette arrived at midday, we were happy to see each other again. We decided to go the movies. We say the premier of Batman Returns , the line at the movie theater was extremely long, but we were so excited that the next day we will be flying to Mexico that the ... The pages are bound with every type of emotion from grief to elated worship. Anyone from any culture, race, or section of society can find common ground with at least one psalm. In this section, we will be reviewing Psalms 22. Although a lament psalm may seem dark and negative, it can actually be very a beneficial prayer to God. Steven I. Lawson explains the importance of this genre in his book Psalms 1 75, These highly emotionally charged psalms record the writer s heart cry to God for divine deliverance from the psalmist s trouble and pain. As humans, we are not able to control the emotions that we feel and at what extent we feel them. Meanwhile, we are able to control our actions. Psalm 22:12 14 reads, Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me. Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me . In my case, I bottled up my emotions from a very young age. I would make a point not to show my sadness what so ever. When I entered my teenage years this backlashed. Due to the fact that I had no outlet for my emotions, I found another. I started cutting myself at the age of 15. I did not know why I did. In the meantime, I was so confused. Hundreds of conflicting emotions filled my heart like they do to any other teenage. I was terrified that my parents would find out that I cut in places where no one would see. It was not until two years later that I found out that self harm was a sin. On the other hand, a safer less sinful way of dealing with our emotions is reading lament prayers. Davida Charney states in his article Maintaining Innocence Before a Divine Hearer, For those seeing the psalms as therapeutic, the laments record moment by moment turns in emotion; a despairing individual is eventually enabled to affirm faith in God We can also see that the passage moves into praise after the writer is finished grieving: You who fear the Lord, praise him! Managing Negative EmotionsAfter An Employee Layoff Dismissal Meeting: Managing Negative Emotions after an Employee Layoff For manager across the world laying off employees is the best way to lower cost when the economy or business declines. Laying off employee is a difficult decision and many times within companies or organization they will try other methods of cutting cost before deciding to lay off employee(s). It is very important for employers to be prepared when initiating a layoff. The factors that lead up to the decision of laying off the particular employee(s) must be addressed and explained thoroughly. Manager can be more efficient with tackling the purpose of the layoff if their explanation is supported with all the concrete facts along with performance reviews and documented coaching opportunities with the employee(s) in question. For example, if an organization has to layoff an employee(s) due performance issues, then the performance issues in the past should be documented. These documents will support and provide solid justifications as to why the decision is the best action for the business. However, sometimes employee(s) that are being laid off really could care less of what the best resolution to lower cost for the company is, because they are now unemployed. To some employee(s) being laid off might come as a surprise and unexpected. Once layoff is initiated the news can spread around the business like a wildfire and provide many negative emotions throughout the organization. Managing Negative Emotions ... Indeed, replacing a tragedy with another one is harmful, but it brings peace at the end. Violence is a very complex term that brings up the darkness of the human world, whether physical or mental, it attacks both ways. In the Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, author Junot Diaz employs the theme that in the wrong hands, power leads to violence, which can produce both exterior and interior pain, ultimately causing destruction or even death. Through aphorism, euphemism, direct characterization, realism, anadiplosis, appeal to emotion and anecdotes, Diaz defines the non existent limits of evil in ... In the end, Trujillo s power is now centered upon the immense stories that have traveled through time and space to depict who he was, and what he has done. Global Warming isChanging the Artics Essay Earth is our one and only home. Without it, life as we know it would not be sustainable. We, this current generation and the previous generation, have seemed to take for granted the fragile nature of the Earth. These generations have done this because they have done very little to nothing to fix the problem of global warming. More often than not, people are ignorant of the global warming situation because they know nothing about global warming and its effects on the planet. What is global warming? With this information, they determined that the decline was most likely the result of snow changing into a different rain. Although one might question if this result might have been because of the lack of precipitation, they determined that there was not a significant influence of decrease in the total amount of precipitation in the areas. As they looked back to annual data collected and the data that was recently collected, they determined statistically that 99% of the summer snowfall decline is linked to Arctic Warming over the past two decades (Screen and Simmons). They continue by explaining with more of these greenhouse gases that the solar input to the Arctic Ocean has increased (Screen and Simmons). Each of these examples shows that global warming has a direct effect on climate. All of these climate problems have stemmed just from greenhouse gases caused by global warming. If global warming keeps going unchecked, there will be dire consequences for the Arctic. There have been several prediction models that show what type of climate and environment that the Arctic will have in the future. Little Bison BasinPrehistory Little Bison Basin Prehistory Prior to the last ice age, the entire region of the Great Plains is believed to have been an inland sea known as the Western Interior Seaway. As this seaway receded, large animals including mammoths and saber toothed tigers lived in the area. The majority of these animals became extinct to the region around 13,000 years ago during one of the ice ages. The great plains are a vast region of North America that spreads from Canada nearly down to the Coast of Texas. This region is comprised of primarily flat grounds with the exceptions of the larger mountain ranges including the Rockies. Within this region is the Little Bison Basin, a stretch of the Great Plains where glacial rivers feed into the larger Whiskey River. Nevin Feneman in his 1916 study defines this region as, The term Great Plains , for the region west of about the 96th or 98th meridian and east of the Rocky Mountains, was not generally used before the early 20th century. As vast as the region is, there are many trends that run throughout not the least of which is the obvious glacial carving. The Little Bison Basin has a relatively new history shrouded in mystery and revealed through its many glaciers and carved out regions. Prior to and into the ice age, this entire region was a frozen wasteland, lifeless and barren. In fact, it was so barren that no people had even ventured into the area. Volleyball Is APopular Sport Across The World For Both Volleyball is a popular sport across the world for both males and females, whether it be competitively or recreationally (Mitchinson, 2013). The objective of the game is to send the ball over the net and have it land inside the opponents court. However, to even start the game or rally, one must serve the ball from their side of the court to the other side of the court. This then gives the teams an opportunity to score a point. Therefore, serving is one of the most important skills in volleyball since it is one of the few ways to continue to score points (Seminati, 2015). A type of serve often is the overhand serve.
