Red Nosed Reindeer Review Report Sample
At first I wanted to do the creation of rudolph the red nosed reindeer when I brought this to Mr.
Livengood he asked me how it relate to the three E s I did not have any support. He then went on
to recommend Rankin and Bass, so I did some research on Rankin and Bass and found it all
interesting. I continued to do research on R/B and there was my National History Day project. I
found a website that had an interview for a showing of the original dolls in Rudolph the red
nosed reindeer. In one of the videos there was a phone number. I called the number and asked for
an interview with the owner of the dolls and it was a bust, it was just a one time event at a toy
shop in Chicago. I did how ever get a name of the guy who owns the dolls and

Some People Have the View That British Generals Like Haig...
Some people have the view that British generals like Haig were incompetent leaders.
How far does the sources support or contradict this interpretation?
Some people have the view that British generals such as Haig were useless leaders. Famous
sources like O What a lovely War , Blackadder and The Trench support this. However from the
1980s many military historians have challenged this interpretation and states that under Haigs
leadership, Britain and her allies won the war from encouraging new weapons and military tactics.
After Haigs death in 1918, historians blamed him for needless laughter of nearly 750,000 British
soldiers on the Western Frontand biographers pilloned him for his overconfidence, insensitivity and

Another source which supports the interpretation that British generals were incompetent is
source B1. John Laffin worked as a tour guide in Australia. His parents both served witht he
Australians in Gallipoli and France as nursing cops. Even though he didn t have a history
degree, he was a military historian who earned his living taking people on battlefield tours. He
researched the war from the soldier s viewpoint and wrote a successful history book titled British
Butchers and Bunglers of World War One a very emotive polemic title which released to the
public in 2003. The book aims to expose the guilt of uncaring and stupid generals. The passage
from the book says that Haig and other stupid generals must be blamed for wilful blunders and
wicked butchery and that there can never be forgiveness for their sheer incompetence . This
source lacks reliability as it has been written in confidence with other sources he has researched
online. Laffin only presents one side of the argument and doesn t discuss the situation in Verdun.
The passage of the book was written in 2003 80 years later from World War 1. However, his job
as a tour guide in battlefields gives him an advantage over other historians. This source is
supported by other historians (B8 an B1) and soldiers (B2). This interpretation is contradicted by
sources like (B14).
David Lloyd George (B4) also supports the interpretation that British generals

Brass Band Civil War
Brass Bands were a popular ensemble centered around the Civil War era. Crawford and
Hamberlin (2013) credit these ensembles to being an exhibition of Nationalism and patriotism for
their respective sides of the Union or Confederacy. Brass bands were initially used by the military
to boost the morale of soldiers. After many of these musicians served their time in the army, they
still performed simply for the love of music. Brass bands generally consisted of brass instruments
such as the bugle, cornet, sackbut, saxhorn, snare and bass drum. A unique instrument of the
ensemble is the saxhorn (APPENDIX A), an instrument family consisting of the flugelhorn,
baritone, and alto horn. Today, the instrument is still used but mostly as euphonium/baritone,
flugelhorn, or mellophone. Lewis (2015), discusses a twelve key bugle unique to the Civil War
era, to be a very common solo instrument. This keyed bugle was an improvement to the original
open key bugle of the American Revolutionary War (APPENDIX B). Two songs unique to both
Civil War and Post Civil War era brass bands are Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie. The Battle
Hymn of the Republic was a poem by Julia Howe with a refrain that was later added with the
chorus Glory,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally composed as a minstrel tune, it would become the anthem of the Confederacy. Dixie
Is a binary form composition, with a simple musical theme introduced, followed by a chorus. The
original idea is restated with the same lyrics, or an instrumental solo, proceeded again with the
main chorus of the song. (APPENDIX C). Unlike the Battle Hymn, Dixie does not have a military
feel. Instead, it resembles folk music. Currently, brass bands serve as a great influence for military
style marching bands in America. Runnels (2016) shares an example where these original brass
band compositions are still performed as a source of patriotism and national

Over the course of the mine being open, they advanced their technology to increase production
and keep up with the competition. The Christmas Coal Mine originally used small ponies to do
the back breaking work of pulling out loads of coal from within the mine (Luecke 1). No electric
was used at the mine until they purchased a generator. The generator didn t light up the whole
tunnel; instead, it ran a piece of equipment known as the , iron mule, or, electric mule. Bob
Harpenau, Jacobs son, stated, I can still remember one time sitting down there and here comes the

Bikram Yoga and Body Fitness
Body fitness is a state asserted to be highly essential in ensuring healthy living. It often realized
through regular physical exercises. Yoga is a technique that may be deemed an old means of
working out however recently most people adopt its use in as a way of ensuring they stay fit
and in shape. For instance, most sports personalities have added yoga to their working out
strategies. Similarly actors use the work out approach to ensure they stay in shape. These factors
along with my other yoga experiences have had me acknowledge the essence of Yoga as perceived
by the diverse individuals. On Sunday April 13, 2014 , I attended Bikram Yoga
class for my yoga
exercises known as hot yoga in Bikram yoga Montreal from 5:00pm to around 6:45 pm. This
session turned out to be an intense form of yoga practice because of the high heat .Initially, what
I knew of yoga was that it was only essential in ensuring physical fitness. However attending the
Bikram yoga class profoundly changed how I view and understand yoga. Bikram yoga is done
in an environment of a humidity of 40% with a temperature of close to 42 C degrees . During
this session, an individual is expected to shed off any heavy clothing and let the heat rise until
they feel it is hot enough. I saw the instructor turn on the fans sometimes but I didn t feel it. I was
wearing long sleeves so I felt very hot and a bit dizzy; we couldn t drink water unless the instructor

The Navajo Are Centrally Located In The Southwestern United
The Navajo are centrally located in the Southwestern United States. Even though their culture is

from religion to personal expression. In fact, a significant portion of personal expression done by
Navajo individuals is shown through their artwork. The artwork is a not only a representation of
the Navajo lifestyle, but their significance to history. The Navajo artwork that will be discussed

Practitioners believe sitting on the sand painting helps the patient to absorb spiritual power,
while in turn the Holy People will absorb the illness and take it away. Afterward, when the sand
painting has served its purpose, it is considered to be toxic, since it has absorbed the illness. For
this reason, the painting is destroyed. Because of the sacred nature of the ceremonies, the sand
paintings are begun, finished, used and destroyed within 12 hours. The colors for the painting
are usually accomplished with naturally colored sand, such as crushed gypsum (white), yellow
ochre, red sandstone, charcoal and a mixture of charcoal and gypsum (blue). Other coloring
agents include corn meal, flower pollen, or powdered roots and bark. Sand paintings are not the
only artforms created by the Navajo, there are also rugs. Navajos came to the southwest with
their own weaving traditions; however, they learned to weave cotton on upright looms from
Pueblo peoples. Navajo women believe the art of weaving was taught by Spider Woman, who
constructed a loom according to directions given by the Holy People. By the 18th century the
Navajos had begun to import Bayeta red yarn to supplement local black, grey, and white wool, as
well as wool dyed with indigo. Using an upright loom, the Navajos made extremely fine utilitarian

Followers Citizenship Behaviors
What is power? Power is the ability to make another person to act in your stead. Likewise, Max
Weber defines power, the probability that one actor within a social relationship will be in a
position to carry out his own will despite resistance (Luthans, 2011, p. 313). An example,
politician presenting a bill to Congress and the bill passes due to having a majority of the vote
despite the other politicians arguing against it. Another way to describe power, organizational
behavior theorist Pfeffer says, as the potential ability to influence behavior, to change the course
of events, to overcome resistance, and to get people to do things that they would not otherwise
do (Luthans, 2011, p. 313). A child doing their homework because his or her parent impressed
upon them if they did not do so they will be punished. The parent influenced the child s behavior
through coercive power. The kid feared being punished, so he or she did their homework. Each day
power shapes our lives in our work, school, community, and home lives. We selected Ethics

Power is not just a unilateral process of influence from the agent to the target but it more involves
a reciprocal relationship between the two (Luthans, 2011, p. 319). This is confirmed by Reiley

interpersonal relationship (p. 72). Ethical leaders are able to lead more by their actions and by
being truthful and fair rather than unethical leaders who lead more with a do as I say

Fiscal deficit
In a system of indicative planning reliance, fiscal policy plays an instrumental role in the
economy of any country. Planning Commission of India had pointed out in the Seventh Five Year
Plan that, the Fiscal policy has a multi dimensional role which particularly aims at improving the
growth performance of the economy and ensuring social justice to the people. However, when a
fiscal policy is not used discreetly, it is likely to create a fiscal mess.....A fiscal imbalance requires
immediate corrective measures because a large fiscal deficit is non sustainable.

Capital expenditure is made by the establishment to consistently maintain the operational activities.
In India, the fiscal deficit is financed by obtaining funds from Reserve Bank of India, called deficit

from banks).
Revenue deficit: Revenue deficit is the difference between the revenue expenditure and the revenue
receipts (the recurring income for the government). When a country runs a revenue deficit it means
that the government is unable to meet its running expenses from its recurring income. To put it
simply
Revenue expenditure is the expense incurred for the normal running of the Government s various
departments and services, interest charged on debt incurred by Government, subsidies etc., whereas
Revenue receipts consist of tax collected by the government and other receipts consisting of interest
and dividends on investments made by Government, fees and other receipts for services rendered

It is proven many times that no country in the Middle East can become a democracy like the
kind in the U.S today. There are numerous reason why this came to be. The first is, When the
French, British, and Italians colonized their spheres of influence, they appointed Arab men who
they believed could best govern in for them. However, due to the small intentions of the Western
powers, they failed to inject democratic ideals into their spheres of influence.this is a huge point
because since the Ottoman empire fell in World War I and the loss of the Middle East in World
War II, many countries were left leaderless and shattered. This led to the fact that some countries
blame the ideology of democracy for poor economy and no power amongst other countries.
Another reason is State propaganda. Like Mao Zedong, Stalin, and even Kim Jong Un today,
people are afraid to disagree with the government. In the Middle East during the rise of dictators
like Saddam Hussein, many established a secret police to ensure order throughout the country
whatever the measure is used to silence them. The removal of Saddam left Iraq leaderless and the
renewal of the constitution was not in play yet. This left many militia and ISIS to take over small
parts or territories, even steal weapons in which the U.S has funded. Almost 73% of all weapons
ISIS have comes from the U.S. President Bush even could have taken Benghazi s incident as a

Caenorhabditis Elegans Lab Report
Introduction: Caenorhabditis elegans, a type of free living nematode that is found in soil, is the
subject matter for this experiment (Marsh). C. elegans allow for an exceptional model organism
because it is easily raised in the laboratory setting, it reproduces rapidly, has a short life cycle of 3
days where it develops from egg to adult worm, only 1.3mm in length, and although only having
959 somatic cells, it shares many characteristics with other multicellular organisms like having
organs and a nervous system (Kaletta). These nematodes can either be a self fertilizing
hermaphrodite where each animal produces both sperm and egg, or they can be males that will
mate with the hermaphrodites (Brenner). When a hermaphrodite self fertilizes, the chance of
having a male being produced is extremely low at just 0.1%, however, when a hermaphrodite is
fertilized by a male, the ratio of males to hermaphrodites is generally equal making it 1:1 (Altun).

is artistic genre that involves realistic narrative and naturalistic technique that is combined with
surreal elements of a dream or fantasy. This genre includes fantasy elements but often has real

political problems. In the movie, there are a lot of examples of Magical Realism. The movie Pan s

Characters In The Film Gladiator
Hollywood has been making historical films for ages, trying to succeed in a film where no one can
complain about historical accuracies. Unfortunately in the 200 film Gladiator director Ridley Scott
did not succeed. The film Gladiator may have had some accurate points but for the most part was
not faithful to Roman history. With the poor representations of Marcus Aurelius, Commodusand
creating an entirely new character as well as how the gladiatorial events in the movie didn t fully
show how intricate and important gladiators really were. Finally the movie didn t showcase the
proper attire and armour that real gladiators would wear.
In a historical film it is important to get the portrayal of significant people done well. In the film
Gladiator the three main characters where not portrayed correctly Maximus, Marcus and
Commodus. In the film Marcus Aurelius was shown to be a cold father to his son. He was
someone who wanted to rebuild the republic and change Rome back into a democracy and take
it out of a dictatorship. This shows inaccuracies because Marcus Aurelius was a man that had
raised his to be the next emperor of Rome. He made sure his son was on the battlefield and
understood the ways of the senate so he would be prepared to take over when it was time. (
Marcus Aurelius. Ancient History Encyclopedia) Marcus Aurelius also never had any intention of
make Rome and Republic again, no emperor ever did. So overall the two main points the film tried

Book Review: The Myth of the Robber Barons by Burton W. Folsom
The Myth of Robber Barons is a short, but excellent book that talks about the entrepreneurs of early
America. It argues against the misconception that the successful businessmen of the 19th century,
often called the robber barons , amassed a big fortune by robbing the general public, whereas, they
became wealthy because they offered good quality products and services at low prices which in turn
attracted so many Americans to do business with them.
According to Folsom, there are two different kinds of entrepreneurs, market entrepreneurs and

Unfortunately for them, Cornelius Vanderbilt, a market entrepreneur, defeated Fulton, Collins and
Cunard. Vanderbilt defeated the Fulton NY/NJ steamship transport monopoly by offering lower
rates, earning a reputation for his punctuality, investing in faster and larger ships and providing
additional services such as concessions. Apart from this, Folsom claims that market
entrepreneurs should not be labeled as robber barons at all. He believes that market entrepreneurs
were behind the actual growth of America. Unlike political entrepreneurs, they made sound
products and took little or no aid from the government. Market entrepreneurs were known as risk
takers and charitable people. Many of them donated money to the needy, built libraries, gave land
to farmers and let people go on ships for free or they had a cheaper fare. A few of the most
charitable market entrepreneurs were Andrew Carnegie James J. Hill, Cornelius Vanderbilt and
John D. Rockefeller.
In the later chapters Folsom talks more about these great entrepreneurs. The second chapter of the
book talks about the transcontinental railway tycoon, James J. Hill. Hill built the Great Northern
without any government aid while remaining highly profitable and efficient. Hill, unlike others,
meticulously planned his railways and mapped out the best routes using the least amount of rail
possible, while his competitors went for expensive, subsidy draining scenic routes. Folsom proves

Gun Control In College
Gun Control
Gun control is a major topic in today s society and it is broken into many subcategories that all
have different arguments and views. A few examples are The Second Amendment is not an
unlimited right to own guns, more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths and more gun control
leads to fewer suicides in the United States. The gun control category I am focusing on in this essay
is, should teachers and students be able to carry firearms on a college campus. I chose this since I
am currently attending college and this could have an effect directly on me or ASU. The idea of
teachers and staff being able to carry firearms on a college campus has come up many times in
the media recently due to the rise in mass shootings. Many states are now looking at this
problem and voting on it. This topic is always heavily debated due to the many different sides
and varying beliefs on gun control and safety. The NRA (National Rifle Association) has a
heavy influence on the united states and who should be allowed gun and what legislation is
passed. The gun control topic of firearms on a college campus has become politicalized and is
commonly drawn into political debates and has become a political tool for winning elections.
Some states have already voted and taken action on this new idea and have allowed staff to carry
guns on campuses and in cars parked and locked in secure parking lots. Another major idea that is
constantly brought up with campus carry and firearms on campuses

For example, I ever send a letter like this to a girl to celebrate the first month I knew her and get her
BBM Pin through Facebook. I wrote those letter like 17 year s old school boy talking...
Hey Girl,
I want to tell you a story. About a month ago, I send a message to a girl on Facebook and asking
her BBM Pin. It took a longtime before she s answer. And once she s answer, she s answer my
question with question : Who is this?
It s dreadful right?
Well, she doesn t realize she just talking with the most romantic man in this country.
Then yada yada yada and in the end of the letter, I ends the message with :
Oh yes I almost forget, the girl s name is.....( her name ).

Analysis Of The Passing Of Grandison And Quentin...
Humor. Mockery. Relationship Goals. Can you consider these three things in a story about slavery?
Slavery is typically a sensitive and serious topic. In Charles W. Chesnutt s short story, The Passing
of Grandison and Quentin Tarantino s film, Django Unchained , these three components were
combined for entertainment purposes. In this essay, I will implement the comparison that both the
short storyand film shows with the three component of humor, mockery and the relationship goal
of a slave. The Passing of Grandison was humorous in many ways. The humor started the Colonel
s son, Dick Owens, trying to win a girl s heart by doing something kind by freeing a slave by
taking him to Canada. Chesnutt used humor by exposing the... Show more content on

In this story, Chesnutt changes the reader s initial perception of the characters, which was
humorous. Such as, even though Charity somewhat persuades Dick Owens to proceed in losing his
father s slave, she never believe that he would actually succeed. Dick returns home, and Charity
Lomax hilariously marries him, as she was mildly impressed her with his act. In the movie, Django
Unchained, Taratino humor comes in condemning the importance of slavery, which he makes fun
of events and groups of people that existed during the time of slavery. In the movie, there is a
white German bounty hunter named Dr. Schultz seeks out a slave named Django and buys him
because he needed him to find some men he is looking for. What so hilarious about this was that
Dr. Schultz could have used anybody beside a slave that was on the same plantation with the
men that Django might have known, he was not even certain that Django knew of these men he
was looking for. Also, in the movie, Taratino made the scene with Django changing wardrobe to
be a hilarious part of the movie. You can say that Django went from rags to riches, after Django s
freedom Dr. Schultz offers to buy him a new suit whatever he wanted. Django selects a blue two
piece with lace cravat and knickerbockers, he assumes that s what gentlemen (a free slave) would
wear, It was funny seeing Django walk in his new wardrobe because he thought he politically

The Pueblo Revolt Summary
The Pueblo Revolt (1680); Critique The article written by Charles W. Hackett based on the
Revolt of the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico and Otermin s attempted reconquest was insightful
and informative in the fact that it showed how much of an impact the forcing of converting to
baptism by the Franciscan friars had on the Native Americans. As expressed in the article, after
three generations of constant oppression and tyranny, in the spring of 1680, the Pueblo Indians
rose up to overthrow the Spanish rulers. With this revolt, Indian fighters were able to kill more
than 400 Spanish soldiers and civilians as well as drove the surviving Europeans back to El Paso,
making the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 the single

The Oppression of Caliban in The Tempest Essay
The Oppression of Caliban in The Tempest
William Shakespeare s, The Tempest, provides insight into the hierarchy of command and servitude
by order of nature. This play uses the relationship between its characters to display the control of
the conqueror over the conquered. It also shows how society usually places the undesirable
members at the bottom of the chain of command, even though they may be entitled to a higher
social status. For example, the beginning of the play opens with a scene on a boat in the midst of a
terrible storm. The boatswain, who is under the command of the royal party, attempts to keep the
boat from sinking.
Members of the royal party, however, persist in interfering with his duties. The boatswain... Show

Caliban s monstrosity,
however, out Herods Herod (Draper 89).
According to the other inhabitants of the island, Caliban is a monster. He is a symbol of what
they never want to become. Caliban reminds them to act as though they are worthy of their high
social status. He is the painfully realistic entity around whom the other rulers on the island silently
rally in order to maintain a social balance. They abhor him but desperately desire to possess at the
same time. On a narrower scale, the oppression of the underdog is obvious in the undesirable
Caliban and his relationship to Prospero, Miranda, Ariel and Ferdinand.
Prospero, the self appointed king of the island upon which everyone eventually becomes
shipwrecked, immediately oppresses Caliban and claims him as his slave, even though Caliban
was the original inhabitant of the island. Prospero and his daughter are technically guests in
Caliban s home. Caliban is the son of the devil and Sycorax, a witch. Prospero uses Caliban s
unsavory origin as an excuse to enslave him. He claims that he is a bad seed, and he deserves a
life of servitude. He never actually justifies the situation with a logical explanation, so he must use
whatever information he can think of as a poor excuse to exploit Caliban for his own self
propagation. Prospero is even bold enough to suggest that by enslaving Caliban, he is actually
extending charity towards him. He feels that

All Falls Down By Kanye West
Today many people feel compelled to buy anything or everything with an expensive price tag. This
includes Expensive designer clothes, latest gadgets, expensive vehicles and many other similar
things. This form of consumerism has embedded itself in today s society; where it s encouraged to
invest in such materialistic possessions. Kanye Westis an African American rapper, producer, and
entrepreneur, who articulates his struggle with consumerism and the struggle for those around him
in his song All Falls Down. West, utilizes puns, rhyme, and juxtaposition to highlight the issues
surrounding materialism that can be interpreted differently by different listeners such as African
Americans and White Americans.
In the first verse, West introduces a woman who has her problems with materialism. To elaborate on
her condition, Kanye uses a pun by stating:
She s so precious with the peer pressure,
Couldn t afford a car, so she named her daughter Alexis.
West s clever use of a pun illustrates how the woman couldn t afford a Lexus so she named her

Sartre s Existentialism And Existentialism
As a continuation of the course assignment, in the following paper, I shall examine Sartre s
Existentialism is a Humanism and give a framework of concepts and reasons as to why it is
existentialist in nature. Whereas the last paper chronologically organized Sartre s life and
experiences, this will focus more specifically on his work, thought process and an impression and
interpretation of his logic. Presented and chronicled after the liberation of Paris from German
occupation, Existentialismis a/and Humanism, flew directly out of that optimistic period where
questions about morality and societal integrity were at the forefront of the minds of French (any
many other) people. Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre
s. In the course of Jean Paul Sartres work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the
coining of the term Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to
Sartre himself. After rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to
clarify and exemplify just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist,
Catholic, and Christian detractors.
Within its confines, Sartre addresses several foundational principles to his theory of existentialism,
the first of which is that existence precedes essence . Here is where Sartre first adopts the moniker
of Existentialist, specifically aesthetic ones, including Heidegger. This is the concept

Analysis Of Hockey Game By Andy Warhol
The image that I have chosen from Artstor, to demonstrate the understanding of the visual culture
is a painting titled, Hockey Game . This image was created by Andy Warhol who was an
American painter, printmaker and filmmaker from 1928 until 1987. There is no date on this
piece. The actual size of this image is 8 by 10 inches and the material used is Gelaton silver
print. Among the images found in Artstor, there is more than one image called the Hockey Game,
created by the same author which are shots in time of pieces of specific hockey games. The image

With each view having different ideologies when viewing an image, the artist in this case has left
the power of his influence up to the value of the viewer. Ideologies are produced and affirmed
through the social institutions that characterize a given society, such as the family, education,
medicine, the law, the government, the entertainment industry, among others (p.23). As a hockey
player and coach, I would view this image of a hockey fight as a natural progression of the game.
If a person, ignorant to the game of hockey viewed this image, they may take offense or even be
upset with the turn of events of the game. It is interesting that the there are a series of pictures
called the Hockey Game created by Warhol, not all at the same game but showing different events
of a game through this TV screen. I think the power of the series would give a viewer a much
more vivid image or representation of hockey than the one specific image I choose a given instance
in time.
The second visual concept that will aid in the explanation of my visual analysis is the concept of
realism and perception. Art and images are in one view, a practice dedicated to the visual and
material reproduction of things and events in the world. In this view, we might say that there are
things in the world and then there are their representation . (p.143). It is

Christ Triumphant Over Sin and Death by Peter Paul Ruben...
Christ Triumphant Over Sin and Death by Peter Paul Ruben
Man has been painting since the beginning of existence. In fact, it was one of the very first
methods of expression and communication ever used by humans. Art has been used to
represent diverse kinds of religion, beliefs, and points of from all around the world as a form of
expression that could last forever and speak every language. At this time I am going to refer to a
specific form of art. This type of art is painting. I am also going to refer to a particular painting.
This distinct painting is titled Christ Triumphant Over Sin and Death by Peter Paul Ruben (1577
1640) and is in the Columbus Art Museum located in Columbus, Ohio. This painting of Christ

Christ is sitting on top of a rock, holding a scepter in his left hand. This scepter is a symbol of
power and authority. There are two angels bringing crowns to Christ made of laurel flowers and
there is also an archangel bringing a vivid red cape for the lord. Right beside the angels you can
see the fire of hell in crimson and saffron bright colors. It is very easy to perceive the power that
Christ holds over all. Under his feet a snake seems to be slithering representing sin. Also beneath
him there is a skull representing death. The strengths for the painting are a perfect match between
the title and the artist representation. The background was made trying to get the attention of the
viewer in Christ and the objets around him, but it is almost impossible to describe the place. The
colors of the background are dark and out of focal point; what I think leaves up to the viewer
imagination to decide were it took place. It is very easy to understand the meaning of the painting
but I cannot make a real description of were it suppose to take place.
The idea of the painting seems to represent the difference between good and evil. It also seems to be
teaching us that in all situations goodness will persevere over evil. Peter Paul Ruben feeds us this
idea when he applies beaming active colors to the faces on the characters in the painting. He does
this in order to pull the observer into the overall theme of the piece.

Racial Inequality During The Middle Ages Essay
I cannot think of a topic that is more controversial, and unsettling than race. The idea of race
began in the middle ages, but really starting taking foot when the America s were discovered.
Since our country was discovered, there has always been racial inequality. In colonial times
Africans were used as slaves, and the Native Americans (the ones who inhabited our country first)
were pushed away to reservations to make room for the white people. Skipping ahead a couple of
decades to the Holocaust. Jew s were widely executed because they did not fit Hitlers standard of
a perfect person, (white). In current times, there is still racial inequality, but the minority
population is rising, and rallying for equality. Being considered a white person in the United
States is almost a blessing. White people are automatically given a certain amount of white
privilege once they are born. When walking down the street, applying for a job, or university
there are very little obstacles a white person will face. A non white person is seen as threatening
walking down the street, and less likely to get a job, or into a university than a white person.
When a white man walks into a room people will just call him a guy, but if a black man walks
into a room people will automatically refer to him as a black guy . This has nothing to do with
how he is dressed, how he talks, or how he behaves, but all on the color of his skin. In the U.S.,
we are brought up to believe white is natural, and if

Characters In Disgrace Sparknotes
In 1997, South Africa entered the post Apartheid, a system which not only the colored but other
nationalities were severely restricted under the power of the white minority. Blacks were not
permitted to pay taxes so they couldn t benefit from them, they were not even considered citizens
and were not allowed to register in the white schools. Segregation took place by having people
attend their own hospitals and restaurants. The post apartheid South Africais described as a
depressing period that rulings was based on nationality, race, and gender (Gradin).
Disgrace opens up with the life of David Lurie, a 52 year old white professor of Romantic Poetry,
twice divorced, and basically, lives for his financial and emotional means. His life filled with
desire, but lacking in passion (Coetzee). This novel tells the Story of David and his daughter Lucy
Lurie, who are living in post apartheid South Africa. Every week he meets his sexual needs by
visiting a prostitute. But still feels empty and seduces one of his students that makes him feel
young again, Melanie. Although Melanie Issacs was a minor character in the novel, her role or
what she made of it, is what gave this story s interesting plot.
Everything falls apart and David Lurie s life falls into disgrace after being charged with sexual
harassment. He is then prompted to leave his position at the university so he moves to his daughter

The Preservation Of Memories And Grieving Process
In Anne Carson s Nox, the preservation of memories and grieving process are shown by formatting
and themes of imagery, encapsulation, isolation, and completion. Upon first impression, Nox s
pages look photocopied, but real enough that the pages feel three dimensional, as though there s a
residue from the author lingering on the pages. Her brother s death prompts Carson to act as his
historian and detail his life through different media. Carson compiles images from different sources,
including herself, and then brings them together to form an epitaph in the form of a collage.
Collaging becomes a collection of preserved emotions from the author. Collaging helps express
emotions of the self that simple words cannot express. Nox s format being a collage pulls the
audienceinto memories of childhood. Young children making collages in art class and excitedly
running home to show their families. Except, Carson cannot show her brother or mother the
collage. Reading Nox feels very voyeuristic as a result. The audience watches Carson s grieving
process literally unfold. Carson becomes her brother s historian, collaging his life whether
positive or negative. Carson and her brother were closer as children but not at all as adults, and
many photos focus on their childhood. The photos are interspersed after definitions (Carson 5.4).

The Constitution And The Articles Of Confederation
Rules would be the new topic of discussion at the end of the American Revolution amongst the
newly formed Free states that won their independence from Britain. One huge question loomed
over the Free states, how could they conduct a civilized way of living without another ruler such
as the king of Britain here in America? There needed to be some sort of system that would
generate a control to create a unified country. States were acting and conducting business as if each
state was its own country and this left the America vulnerable on many fronts. Some of the main
issues that surfaced were; How to divide powers between local and national governments? Which
laws should be made, and by whom and who would enforce them? I will address some of the
differences between the Constitution and The Articles of Confederation.
The Articles of Confederation were designed and formed from the thirteen states that created a
Confederation known as the league of friendship ; their goal was to find solutions for problems;
and one of the first attempts to create a system. The Articles of Confederation was our nation s first
constitution; during the last years of the Revolutionary war, the government had been conducting
our country s affairs helping to negotiate the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
The Articles of Confederation were a set of principles set forth that got our nation through the
Revolutionary war. When the articles fell short at working effectively the state delegates attempted

Robert Frost s Home Burial
In Home Burial, Robert Frost uses language and imagery to show how differently a man and a
women deal with grief. The poem not only describes the grief the two feel for the loss of their
child but also the impending death of a marriage. Frost shows this by using a dramatic style set in
New England. In his narrative poem, Frost starts a tense conversation between the man and the wife
whose first child had died recently. Not only is there dissonance between the couple, but also a
major communication conflict between the husbandand the wife. As the poem opens, the wife is

Looking at lines 3 9 you are able to see that the wife looks at her world through eyes of fear:
Looking back over her shoulder at some fear.
She took a doubtful step and then undid it
To raise herself and look again...
And her face changed from terrified to dull. (l. 3 9)
Even though the wife may feel that her husband does not understand her grief, he does try to reach
out to her. He implores her, Help me, then (l.46). He knows that he has a difficult time
communicating with her and observes:
My words are nearly always an offence. I don t know how to speak of anything. So as to please
you. But I might be taught. I should suppose. I can t say I see how. A man must partly give up
being a man. With women folk. (l.48 53) The husband acknowledges that she is grieving and
asks her, Let me into your grief (l.62). He pleads with her, Give me my chance (l.64). He asks
for help in such a way that his wife pushes him away again. She throws the accusation at him,
There you go sneering now! (l.70). This starts a second argument between the two. The argument
now is whether the husband can grieve for the child, in the way that he is allowed without society
looking down on him? The husband wants the world to know that he is hurting too, but how can
he do this? The husband was never taught to grieve, so he is in the process of learning how to do
this. The wife does not

The Secret Service And A Protective Security Policy
Introduction
Assassination is always a serious business. It is unfamiliar to most of us who live in liberal
democracies. The Secret Service found that assassination seems clear is that, for almost all
subjects, attacks or near lethal approaches occurred after a period of downward spiral in their
lives (Dedman, 1998). The most often motive that assassins gave for attacking a public figure
was to achieve notoriety or fame, and only a few wanted political change or acted in a group.
Other assassins wanted to end their pain by being imprisoned or to avenge a perceived wrong. In
this article, some of the incorrect stereotypes associated with assassins or near lethal approachers
who direct their activities against prominent public officials and public figures, and how these
stereotypes can create blind spots in a protective security policy.
Blind spots in a Protective Security Policy
Portraits of assassins are fixed in the American mind as the deranged madman, the lonely loser
obsessed with his target, the political killer following threats with violence. Dedman (1998) shows
that half of the assassins has mental illness symptoms, where many shifted from one target to
another, valuing the act more than the victim. Not one had communicated a direct threat to the
target or to law enforcement authorities.
Many studies found there was no set profile, although there were some patterns like histories of
social isolation, weapon use or harassing other people. Yakin (2011) discusses

This, has led to numerous exercises by the President to stretch this power to its full extent, not only

After the Prize cases of 1863, the Executive exercised it s power to act war like in situations that
looked like war in various regions throughout the globe. Congress however, soon became concerned
with the abuse of this power, particularly those executed by former Presidents Lyndon Johnson and
Richard Nixon (288). This concern emerged during the Vietnam and Korean wars when the United

an effort to limit the President s power, Congress passed the War Powers Resolution which
established guidelines for the executive during times of conflict. The Resolution requires the

Rolling A Ball Analysis
By a show of hands, how many people on hear have ever seen professional bowling on TV? Were

somebody who is unfamiliar with the specifics of the sport, it can be difficult to comprehend all
the parts of this seemingly simple idea of rolling a ball. These parts can be broken down into three
steps. These steps are, the set up, the approach, and the release.
Those of you who have been to a bowling alley might have noticed that the flooring strips on the

the same time you begin to move the ball, initially pushing the ball forward to straighten your
arm then drawing your arm straight back. You then alternate your steps moving towards the

non dominant leg and the ball does not begin to move until your dominant leg moves. So the ball

Should Public Transportation Should Be Made Free In The...
Imagine being lost in New York City. Where would you go? My first instinct would be to hail a
taxi or get on a train or subway and take it somewhere familiar to me. What if you had no money,
then what would you do? I don t know what I would do. You can t take public transportation
without money, but you should be able to. Even if you weren t lost, and you had somewhere to
go, what would you do? So many people are unable to afford public transportation, that they are
just not able to get around, and get to where they need to go, like to work or to an event. If public
transportation were to be made free, people who can t afford a train ticket would now be able to
get around. Moreover, despite the obvious benefits, there would be no more crazy city car traffic.
This would help to conserve the environment, and to create a safer and healthier environment.
Therefore, public transportation should in fact be made free in the United States.
Issues regarding public transportation have been an ongoing debate since the 1950s. In the 1950s,
African Americans were discriminated against; They were not able to to ride in the front of the bus
and had to give up their seat for a white person. For example, Rosa Parks sparked much debate

people sin. Do people sin by choice or are people completely helpless when it comes to resisting

we choose to give into sinful desires, it is through divine grace that we seek out the love of Jesus.
It is not the sin itself but the intention in the heart of the person committing an act that could be
considered sin under certain circumstances. If a person kills another person, it is not the act of
killing that is a sin but the intent behind the killing. If the killing was an accident or self defense it
is different from maliciously committing murder, or intending to kill another person.
St. Francis of Assisi would say that sin is objective: the act of sin without knowingly or
deliberately committing the sin. Intention has no part in whether or not an act is considered. Sin is
sin regardless of intent. With the legacy of St. Francis ministry, the order called The friars , it
seems that St. Francis was more concerned with good works as a means of salvation. However,
works would mean nothing if there was not good intent behind them.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer believes we are not judged by our works, but are saved by grace. A person
must first be called to a life of Christ. This call is His grace. Reject the call

Summary Of A Sick Day For Amos Mcgee
Megan Fortas
Professor Cohoon
ENGL 3401 002
25 September 2017
A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead A Sick Day for Amos McGee is about a friendly
zookeeper, who always goes to the zoo, on the number five bus every day to make time for his
friends, which are the elephant, the tortoise, the penguin, the rhinoceros, and the owl. He plays
chess with the elephant, runs races with the tortoise, sits with the penguin, always gives his
handkerchief to the rhinoceros, and reads to the owl. Then, one day the zookeeper gets sick and
he is not able to go to the zoo to his friends. So, his friends left the zoo on the number five bus
and visited his best friend at home to make him feel better. A Sick day for Amos McGee won the
Caldecott Medal in 2011 for the illustrations that were done by Erin E. Stead, who is the wife of
the author, Philip C. Stead. She made a speech on her winning, saying A picture bookallows a child
ownership of art even if it s just for the two weeks they check it out of the library. That book is
theirs. I m not sure any other art for replicates that feeling. She is right, every picture book that a
person picks up, buys, or checks out is a piece of art because all picture book illustrations are
different and unique.
Illustrations in pictures are meant to make the use of the book for entertainment. The illustrations
that Erin C. Stead uses in her all of her books are woodblock or also known as woodcut printing and
then she draws on the top of the prints in pencil to finish the illustration. This type of illustration
was used in A Sick Day for Amos McGee. Woodblock printing is a technique that is used to print
text, images or patterns. In an interview talking about the illustrations in her and her husband s
book, with MacMillan Children s on YouTube, the colors that are in the book are stamped onto
the page by a piece of wood. She carves each piece of wood into each of the animals that are in
the book. After she does that, she rolls the paint onto the piece of wood and presses it to the paper.
The colors that the illustrator s use was blue, yellow, green, gray/black, orange, red, brown, and
white. Red, yellow, and oranges, are colors used to make the book suggest it has warmth,

the definition of security dilemma back in 1951 a structural notion in which the self help attempts
of states to look after their security needs tend, regardless of intention, to lead to rising insecurity
to others as each interprets its own measures as defensive and measures of others as potentially
threatening (Herz, 1950: 157) which is a classic definition heavily associates with realism. In

Mistakes, everyone makes them, but what if not all mistakes were bad. Mistakes are a key point
in discovery. Most things that are used in people s everyday lives are mistakes. For example,
microwaves and gravity were both discovered by mistakes. Mistake aren t always good and
sometimes mistakes can cause major damage. Sometimes mistakes can can end up bad, but it s
worth the risk.
First off, something we use every day was a mistake. Microwaves, that thing that heats up food and

Jeffery Dahmer Essay
Jeffery Dahmer is arguably the most notorious serial killer cannibal in history. Targeting men and
boys, Dahmer s life of crime began with drinking and sex offending. His murders were
exceptionally gruesome, often involving rape, torture, necrophilia, dismemberment, and
cannibalism. The media often commented on how normal Dahmer appeared. Jeffrey Dahmer
made everyone question how one develops into such a monster. By the time of his apprehension,
Dahmer had sodomized, murdered, and cannibalized at least seventeen men, mostly black,
Hispanic or Asian, in the Milwaukee area between the years of 1978 until his arrest in 1991
(Williams pg.1). Jeffrey Dahmer was born in Milwaukee on May 21, 1960, to Lionel and Joyce

His classmates considered him a loner and an alcoholic, who brought liquor into the classroom
(Bardsley Ch.14). At 15, Dahmer would scour the neighborhood, collecting the remains of
animals for his own private cemetery. A fascination with dead creatures was evident from a young
age (Bardsley Ch. 14). Also as a teen, Dahmer s parents ended their relationship by divorce. In the
fall of 1978, Dahmer entered Ohio State University, where he remained intoxicated for the majority
of the semester and inevitably flunked out. After ignoring an ultimatum from his father, Dahmer
refused to look for a job. His father then drove him to the recruiting office to join the Armed Forces
in January of 1979. Although he seemed to enjoy life in the Army, he was discharged early for
habitual drunkenness (Bardsley Ch.15). Not long after his dishonorable discharge, Dahmer was
sent to live with his grandmother where he got a job, but before long was arrested for drunkenness
and disorderly conduct. Soon, the offenses worsened as his alcoholism and emotional issues
intensified, including but not limited to indecent exposure, child molestation, and culminating with
his arrest for multiple murders in July of 1991. At the 1989 sentencing of Dahmer for child
molestation, his father, Lionel Dahmer stated, There was something missing in Jeff.... We call it a

Atticus Finch Thoughtless Crowd
In a society where everyone is competing with each other, you would assume someone with
good intentions and logical views is more powerful than a crowd of thoughtless people. In To
Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this hypothesis was put to the test when Atticus Finch, a
logical, unbiased lawyer, was given the task of testifying for an alleged rape case to a young girl
named Mayella Ewell that was committed by a hard working black man named Tom Robinson.
As a novel set in the early 1930s, most people in Maycomb County, a district in Alabama, were
prejudiced towards black people. Even worse, seemingly all of the people on the jury were
prejudiced, a thoughtless crowd . While the logical person should be more powerful, this is
unfortunately not the case because logic cannot change the views of thoughtless people, those with
an unclear conscience have prejudices that can overpower, and quantity overrules quality.
During Tom Robinson s trial, Atticus presents the jury with clear and logical evidence that clearly
shows that Tom Robinson could not have raped Mayella. The first major claim... Show more

I seen that black [ni**er] yonder ruttin on my Mayella! (173). By using this derogative term to
identify someone, it is clear to the reader that Mr. Ewell has a prejudice against African Americans.

The Act Of Genocide
The act of genocide is an extremity that accompanies the ever modernizing world, a reality that is
increasingly discovered as the twentieth century inched toward the twenty first. Cambodia, a
country located in southeast Asia, is unlucky enough to have fallen under the terror of their own
personalized war on humanity. A purpose whose plans took root in the quest for an egalitarian
system, and thus purposefully began attacking its own economy. All the while destroying any
constructs the Pol Potregime felt may lead to a type of variety among the people, for there is safety
in homogeneity. And so this culture suffered through extermination, whether that be in religion,
music, or even in common family and friend relationships. Cambodiahas been stripped of its
individuality through each and every citizen for the sake of uniformity. When such a conflict as
this, has finally come to an end it is undeniable that the process of rebuilding must commence.
That reconstruction aimed toward all that has been destroyed: the economy, all types of
infrastructure, a sense of community among the people. It is the responsibility of the country, as
well as the developed outside world, to distribute aid toward this process. Far too often
foreigners invade with their own objectives disguised as good will. Post genocide Cambodia has
for years received aid that was either, unable to meet it s needs or not established long enough to
make a significant or lasting difference. What is necessary is a

Challenges Faced By Pakistan As An Impoverished Nation And...
Issues of unstable governance are directly related to the difficulties confronted by developing
nations (BU 2014). The government plays a crucial role in uplifting a country and its development.
It can achieve this by managing the country and its problems in a decently proficient manner, taking
the right decisions at the right time, imposing rules and regulations and by setting up viable
strategies to fight the obstacles coming in its way of advancement. Most of the developing
countries tend to face similar problems and require serious governmentreforms in order to defeat
them. Surprisingly, Pakistanis among one of those countries that are tormented by issues such as
poverty, illiteracy, terrorism, civil war and overpopulation. This paper will shed light on some of
the challenges faced by Pakistan as an impoverished nation and also provide some suggestions on
how these issues can be tackled.
Pakistan is an Islamic state located in South Asia that covers an area of 796,095 square kilometers.
It shares border with India, Afghanistan, Iran and China and a marine border with Oman. It came
into existence as an independent nation in 1947 and since then, it has been encompassed by
incalculable issues including underdeveloped infrastructure, infertile and old production lines,
international interference, instable government and corruption underscoring every deliberation

Essay on Bravery in The Tempest
The Theme of Bravery in The Tempest
Bravery performs a very important role in The Tempest. Different than a motif, the theme of
bravery actually takes form in Shakespeare s play and develops the play itself. However, like a
motif, bravery is used intermittently throughout the play in different form and context. It captures
different meanings and performs different capacities erratically.
A denotative definition from the 15th century, according to the Merriam Webster Collegiate
Dictionary (10 ed.), portrays brave as meaning, [from Old Italian and Spanish, meaning courageous,
wild; probably from Latin, meaning barbarous]. The dictionary then defines brave as a. having
courage: dauntless b. making fine show: colorful, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example from the text of brave/bravery would be the presence of spirits and the brave
god [that] bears celestial liquor (II.ii.159). Caliban only knows spirit and charm. He has not yet
encountered what we would call a normal human relationship. The spirits of Stephano and Trinculo
are brave to the kneeling Caliban because they bear a fine show and heavenly charm that will
satisfy his need to be subject to something that is not earthly.
On and on throughout the text, the theme of bravery is evident. Brave and bravery demonstrate our
thematic process throughout the play through the Prosepero s realization of the benefits of
forgiveness over revenge. The thematic direction of Miranda s brave coming of age, and realizing of
her femininity and love of Ferdinand. The brave new world conqueror s Stephano and Trinculo
who are setting out to claim the island as their own and bravely breed a continent of issue from
the brave wonder of Miranda. Stephano bravely professes, Monster, I will kill this man: his
daughter and I will be king and queen save our graces! and Trinculo and thyself will be viceroys.
Dost thou the clouds methought would open and show riches Ready to drop upon me that, when I
waked, I cried to dream again.
Variations of the word bravery come in all different configurations. We have a brave monster
(II.ii.257), in Caliban. We have a brave lass (III.ii.153) that will bring

not going to allow the confederates to practice slavery. Many northern states favored the abolition
of slavery. The southerners favored the institution of slavery and favored the power of state
governments over the federal government. This caused a split in political parties and led to the
formation of new parties in the United States. The Constitutional Union Party rose and was formed
by former Whigs. The Constitutional Union Party s stance held in preserving the union by refusing
to take sides on slavery. When it became obvious that support for the party was weak, many in the
Constitutional Union Party attempted to join with Northern Democrats who supported

Discuss the importance of data accuracy. Inaccurate data leads to inaccurate information. What
can be some of the consequences of data inaccuracy? What can be done to ensure data accuracy?
Data accuracy is important because inaccurate data leads may lead to such things as the closing
down of business, it may also lead to the loosing of jobs, and it may also lead to the failure of a
new product. To ensure that one s data is accurate one may double check the data given to them, as
well as has more than one person researching the data they are researching.

Jim Steward Made History That Changed Memphis For A Lifetime
Got Soul? In 1975, Jim Steward made history that changed Memphis for a lifetime. He discovered
a small movie theater that later expanded to the biggest recording studio in the city. Quickly
Stewart realized that he had nothing. He had no funds, no equipment, or artist. But, to the rescue
comes his sister, Estelle Axton. For the simple fact that she was a bank clerk he confided in her
for help. She mortgaged her house for a while to buy better equipment for the new recording studio.
Then in an instance, the new recording studio was growing more and more each day. Satellite
Record started out as a mixture of country, gospel, and southern styles.
The different genres recorded at the recording studio is what made it widely important. After a lot
of time and effort a recording was finally made in the old movie theater that was transformed to
Satellite Records. The semi new recording studio gained status around Memphis that allowed them
a partner deal with Atlantic Records in no time. After accepting the deal, Satellite Records was
definitely put in the spot light. Jim Stewart and his sister Estelle Axton later changed the company s
name to Stax, which was a combination of the first letters in their last names.
Stax Records wanted to give everyone in the city changes to prove their musical abilities, so they
developed an open door policy that soon attracted a mixture African American and Caucasian R B

Personal Sociological Factors
TAKING A GLANCE AT MY LIFE THROUGH SOCIOLOGICAL IMAGINATION
ELLY MAWI Just like what we see, hear, and do everyday, our sociological factors also have
effects on our perceptions of the world and things around us. An individual s social location can
lead him to wealth and success or prevent him from them. The positive consequences of being
social animals lead human beings to become more social as time goes by, and symbolic interaction
among individuals help us connect and understand each other in a society. Through the lenses of
such sociological theories, sociological imagination enables us to grasp history and biography and
the relations between the two within society and helps us understand the connections between
social structures and our individual lives (Milgram).
SOCIAL LOCATIONS My family fled from the military dictatorship in Myanmar and came to the
United States in search of human rights and better living conditions. My family migrated to
Indianapolis, Indiana in 2012 and is living here since then. I come from a working class family,

Descriptive Essay On A Day In My House
The snow seemed like it will never stop. At my house, that sits upon the top of a mountain, we
had over three feet of snow. It was three days before Christmas and the sun was just rising over
the snow covered mountain range, the morning sky was grey with a splash of pastel pink and a
warm yellow. With the smell of black coffee, I woke up in my sister s room. The sunshine was
beginning to peak into the small yellow room, my sister, Allison, was still sleeping with shallow
breaths. I carefully swing my legs out of her bed, the frame made a quick, high pitch creak as I
stand up. As I tiptoe towards the door, the sound of bacon hitting the hot skillet makes my stomach
growl. I quietly close the bedroom door behind me. I descend down the steps, awaiting me is a
zealous black dachshund. She shakes her body happily and runs towards the door, her nails
clicking on the wood floor along the way. I try to open the frosting glass door, but the compacted
snowwas hindering the glass. With a burst of strength, the door opens and the cold and angry air
slaps my face. Hopping out the front door, my dachshund lands in a pile of snow and pushes the
snow in the house. I close the door quickly, to see my grandmother sitting at the old wooden
kitchen table. She smiles as my mother walks in. My mom comes over with a bright yellow box
of pancake mix in her hand and kisses the top of my head. She sets the yellow box down to check
on the sizzling bacon, and I walk over to my content grandmother.

The Role Of Greed In The Devil And Tom Walker

are very greedy and mean. The man meets the devil in a swamp, and he offers Tom treasure in

the deal herself. The devil kills her, and Tom then decides to make the deal himself. He then spends
the rest of his life as a usurer and becomes very rich. However, he is still greedy and so the devil
takes him away one day and he is never seen again. The message presented in The Devil and Tom

  • 2. Red Nosed Reindeer Review Report Sample At first I wanted to do the creation of rudolph the red nosed reindeer when I brought this to Mr. Livengood he asked me how it relate to the three E s I did not have any support. He then went on to recommend Rankin and Bass, so I did some research on Rankin and Bass and found it all interesting. I continued to do research on R/B and there was my National History Day project. I found a website that had an interview for a showing of the original dolls in Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. In one of the videos there was a phone number. I called the number and asked for an interview with the owner of the dolls and it was a bust, it was just a one time event at a toy shop in Chicago. I did how ever get a name of the guy who owns the dolls and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Some People Have the View That British Generals Like Haig... Some people have the view that British generals like Haig were incompetent leaders. How far does the sources support or contradict this interpretation? Some people have the view that British generals such as Haig were useless leaders. Famous sources like O What a lovely War , Blackadder and The Trench support this. However from the 1980s many military historians have challenged this interpretation and states that under Haigs leadership, Britain and her allies won the war from encouraging new weapons and military tactics. After Haigs death in 1918, historians blamed him for needless laughter of nearly 750,000 British soldiers on the Western Frontand biographers pilloned him for his overconfidence, insensitivity and logical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another source which supports the interpretation that British generals were incompetent is source B1. John Laffin worked as a tour guide in Australia. His parents both served witht he Australians in Gallipoli and France as nursing cops. Even though he didn t have a history degree, he was a military historian who earned his living taking people on battlefield tours. He researched the war from the soldier s viewpoint and wrote a successful history book titled British Butchers and Bunglers of World War One a very emotive polemic title which released to the public in 2003. The book aims to expose the guilt of uncaring and stupid generals. The passage from the book says that Haig and other stupid generals must be blamed for wilful blunders and wicked butchery and that there can never be forgiveness for their sheer incompetence . This source lacks reliability as it has been written in confidence with other sources he has researched online. Laffin only presents one side of the argument and doesn t discuss the situation in Verdun. The passage of the book was written in 2003 80 years later from World War 1. However, his job as a tour guide in battlefields gives him an advantage over other historians. This source is supported by other historians (B8 an B1) and soldiers (B2). This interpretation is contradicted by sources like (B14). David Lloyd George (B4) also supports the interpretation that British generals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Brass Band Civil War Brass Bands were a popular ensemble centered around the Civil War era. Crawford and Hamberlin (2013) credit these ensembles to being an exhibition of Nationalism and patriotism for their respective sides of the Union or Confederacy. Brass bands were initially used by the military to boost the morale of soldiers. After many of these musicians served their time in the army, they still performed simply for the love of music. Brass bands generally consisted of brass instruments such as the bugle, cornet, sackbut, saxhorn, snare and bass drum. A unique instrument of the ensemble is the saxhorn (APPENDIX A), an instrument family consisting of the flugelhorn, baritone, and alto horn. Today, the instrument is still used but mostly as euphonium/baritone, flugelhorn, or mellophone. Lewis (2015), discusses a twelve key bugle unique to the Civil War era, to be a very common solo instrument. This keyed bugle was an improvement to the original open key bugle of the American Revolutionary War (APPENDIX B). Two songs unique to both Civil War and Post Civil War era brass bands are Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie. The Battle Hymn of the Republic was a poem by Julia Howe with a refrain that was later added with the chorus Glory,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Originally composed as a minstrel tune, it would become the anthem of the Confederacy. Dixie Is a binary form composition, with a simple musical theme introduced, followed by a chorus. The original idea is restated with the same lyrics, or an instrumental solo, proceeded again with the main chorus of the song. (APPENDIX C). Unlike the Battle Hymn, Dixie does not have a military feel. Instead, it resembles folk music. Currently, brass bands serve as a great influence for military style marching bands in America. Runnels (2016) shares an example where these original brass band compositions are still performed as a source of patriotism and national ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On Sunday April 13, 2014 , I attended Bikram Yoga class for my yoga exercises known as hot yoga in Bikram yoga Montreal from 5:00pm to around 6:45 pm. This session turned out to be an intense form of yoga practice because of the high heat .Initially, what I knew of yoga was that it was only essential in ensuring physical fitness. However attending the Bikram yoga class profoundly changed how I view and understand yoga. Bikram yoga is done in an environment of a humidity of 40% with a temperature of close to 42 C degrees . During this session, an individual is expected to shed off any heavy clothing and let the heat rise until they feel it is hot enough. Afterward, when the sand painting has served its purpose, it is considered to be toxic, since it has absorbed the illness. For this reason, the painting is destroyed. Because of the sacred nature of the ceremonies, the sand paintings are begun, finished, used and destroyed within 12 hours. The colors for the painting are usually accomplished with naturally colored sand, such as crushed gypsum (white), yellow ochre, red sandstone, charcoal and a mixture of charcoal and gypsum (blue). Other coloring agents include corn meal, flower pollen, or powdered roots and bark. Sand paintings are not the only artforms created by the Navajo, there are also rugs. Navajos came to the southwest with their own weaving traditions; however, they learned to weave cotton on upright looms from Pueblo peoples. Navajo women believe the art of weaving was taught by Spider Woman, who constructed a loom according to directions given by the Holy People. By the 18th century the Navajos had begun to import Bayeta red yarn to supplement local black, grey, and white wool, as well as wool dyed with indigo. Likewise, Max Weber defines power, the probability that one actor within a social relationship will be in a position to carry out his own will despite resistance (Luthans, 2011, p. 313). An example, politician presenting a bill to Congress and the bill passes due to having a majority of the vote despite the other politicians arguing against it. Another way to describe power, organizational behavior theorist Pfeffer says, as the potential ability to influence behavior, to change the course of events, to overcome resistance, and to get people to do things that they would not otherwise do (Luthans, 2011, p. 313). A child doing their homework because his or her parent impressed upon them if they did not do so they will be punished. The parent influenced the child s behavior through coercive power. The kid feared being punished, so he or she did their homework. Each day power shapes our lives in our work, school, community, and home lives. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is proven many times that no country in the Middle East can become a democracy like the kind in the U.S today. There are numerous reason why this came to be. The first is, When the French, British, and Italians colonized their spheres of influence, they appointed Arab men who they believed could best govern in for them. However, due to the small intentions of the Western powers, they failed to inject democratic ideals into their spheres of influence.this is a huge point because since the Ottoman empire fell in World War I and the loss of the Middle East in World War II, many countries were left leaderless and shattered. This led to the fact that some countries blame the ideology of democracy for poor economy and no power amongst other countries. Another reason is State propaganda. Like Mao Zedong, Stalin, and even Kim Jong Un today, people are afraid to disagree with the government. In the Middle East during the rise of dictators like Saddam Hussein, many established a secret police to ensure order throughout the country whatever the measure is used to silence them. The removal of Saddam left Iraq leaderless and the renewal of the constitution was not in play yet. This left many militia and ISIS to take over small parts or territories, even steal weapons in which the U.S has funded. Almost 73% of all weapons ISIS have comes from the U.S. President Bush even could have taken Benghazi s incident as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Caenorhabditis Elegans Lab Report Introduction: Caenorhabditis elegans, a type of free living nematode that is found in soil, is the subject matter for this experiment (Marsh). C. elegans allow for an exceptional model organism because it is easily raised in the laboratory setting, it reproduces rapidly, has a short life cycle of 3 days where it develops from egg to adult worm, only 1.3mm in length, and although only having 959 somatic cells, it shares many characteristics with other multicellular organisms like having organs and a nervous system (Kaletta). These nematodes can either be a self fertilizing hermaphrodite where each animal produces both sperm and egg, or they can be males that will mate with the hermaphrodites (Brenner). When a hermaphrodite self fertilizes, the chance of having a male being produced is extremely low at just 0.1%, however, when a hermaphrodite is fertilized by a male, the ratio of males to hermaphrodites is generally equal making it 1:1 (Altun). Unfortunately in the 200 film Gladiator director Ridley Scott did not succeed. The film Gladiator may have had some accurate points but for the most part was not faithful to Roman history. With the poor representations of Marcus Aurelius, Commodusand creating an entirely new character as well as how the gladiatorial events in the movie didn t fully show how intricate and important gladiators really were. Finally the movie didn t showcase the proper attire and armour that real gladiators would wear. In a historical film it is important to get the portrayal of significant people done well. In the film Gladiator the three main characters where not portrayed correctly Maximus, Marcus and Commodus. In the film Marcus Aurelius was shown to be a cold father to his son. He was someone who wanted to rebuild the republic and change Rome back into a democracy and take it out of a dictatorship. This shows inaccuracies because Marcus Aurelius was a man that had raised his to be the next emperor of Rome. He made sure his son was on the battlefield and understood the ways of the senate so he would be prepared to take over when it was time. ( Marcus Aurelius. Folsom The Myth of Robber Barons is a short, but excellent book that talks about the entrepreneurs of early America. It argues against the misconception that the successful businessmen of the 19th century, often called the robber barons , amassed a big fortune by robbing the general public, whereas, they became wealthy because they offered good quality products and services at low prices which in turn attracted so many Americans to do business with them. Vanderbilt defeated the Fulton NY/NJ steamship transport monopoly by offering lower rates, earning a reputation for his punctuality, investing in faster and larger ships and providing additional services such as concessions. Apart from this, Folsom claims that market entrepreneurs should not be labeled as robber barons at all. He believes that market entrepreneurs were behind the actual growth of America. Unlike political entrepreneurs, they made sound products and took little or no aid from the government. Market entrepreneurs were known as risk takers and charitable people. Many of them donated money to the needy, built libraries, gave land to farmers and let people go on ships for free or they had a cheaper fare. A few of the most charitable market entrepreneurs were Andrew Carnegie James J. Hill, Cornelius Vanderbilt and John D. Rockefeller. In the later chapters Folsom talks more about these great entrepreneurs. The second chapter of the book talks about the transcontinental railway tycoon, James J. Hill. A few examples are The Second Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns, more gun control laws would reduce gun deaths and more gun control leads to fewer suicides in the United States. The gun control category I am focusing on in this essay is, should teachers and students be able to carry firearms on a college campus. I chose this since I am currently attending college and this could have an effect directly on me or ASU. The idea of teachers and staff being able to carry firearms on a college campus has come up many times in the media recently due to the rise in mass shootings. Many states are now looking at this problem and voting on it. This topic is always heavily debated due to the many different sides and varying beliefs on gun control and safety. The NRA (National Rifle Association) has a heavy influence on the united states and who should be allowed gun and what legislation is passed. The gun control topic of firearms on a college campus has become politicalized and is commonly drawn into political debates and has become a political tool for winning elections. In the movie, there is a white German bounty hunter named Dr. Schultz seeks out a slave named Django and buys him because he needed him to find some men he is looking for. The Oppression of Caliban in The Tempest Essay The Oppression of Caliban in The Tempest William Shakespeare s, The Tempest, provides insight into the hierarchy of command and servitude by order of nature. This play uses the relationship between its characters to display the control of the conqueror over the conquered. It also shows how society usually places the undesirable members at the bottom of the chain of command, even though they may be entitled to a higher social status. For example, the beginning of the play opens with a scene on a boat in the midst of a terrible storm. The boatswain, who is under the command of the royal party, attempts to keep the boat from sinking. Members of the royal party, however, persist in interfering with his duties. The boatswain... Of the pivotal texts in all existentialism, few are more well known than Sartre s. In the course of Jean Paul Sartres work on existentialism, he is believed to be the basis for the coining of the term Existentialism, which in 1943 was first said by Gabriel Marcel, in reference to Sartre himself. After rejecting and then assimilating the phrase unto his own purposes, he set out to clarify and exemplify just what existentialism was, in the face of many of its Communist, Marxist, Catholic, and Christian detractors. The idea of race began in the middle ages, but really starting taking foot when the America s were discovered. Since our country was discovered, there has always been racial inequality. In colonial times Africans were used as slaves, and the Native Americans (the ones who inhabited our country first) were pushed away to reservations to make room for the white people. Skipping ahead a couple of decades to the Holocaust. Jew s were widely executed because they did not fit Hitlers standard of a perfect person, (white). In current times, there is still racial inequality, but the minority population is rising, and rallying for equality. Being considered a white person in the United States is almost a blessing. White people are automatically given a certain amount of white privilege once they are born. When walking down the street, applying for a job, or university there are very little obstacles a white person will face. A non white person is seen as threatening walking down the street, and less likely to get a job, or into a university than a white person. When a white man walks into a room people will just call him a guy, but if a black man walks into a room people will automatically refer to him as a black guy . One huge question loomed over the Free states, how could they conduct a civilized way of living without another ruler such as the king of Britain here in America? There needed to be some sort of system that would generate a control to create a unified country. (l. 3 9) Even though the wife may feel that her husband does not understand her grief, he does try to reach out to her. He implores her, Help me, then (l.46). He knows that he has a difficult time communicating with her and observes: My words are nearly always an offence. I don t know how to speak of anything. So as to please you. But I might be taught. I should suppose. I can t say I see how. A man must partly give up being a man. With women folk. (l.48 53) The husband acknowledges that she is grieving and asks her, Let me into your grief (l.62). He pleads with her, Give me my chance (l.64). He asks for help in such a way that his wife pushes him away again. She throws the accusation at him, There you go sneering now! (l.70). This starts a second argument between the two. The argument now is whether the husband can grieve for the child, in the way that he is allowed without society looking down on him? The husband wants the world to know that he is hurting too, but how can he do this? The husband was never taught to grieve, so he is in the process of learning how to do this. The wife does not ... • 35. The Secret Service And A Protective Security Policy Introduction Assassination is always a serious business. It is unfamiliar to most of us who live in liberal democracies. The Secret Service found that assassination seems clear is that, for almost all subjects, attacks or near lethal approaches occurred after a period of downward spiral in their lives (Dedman, 1998). The most often motive that assassins gave for attacking a public figure was to achieve notoriety or fame, and only a few wanted political change or acted in a group. Other assassins wanted to end their pain by being imprisoned or to avenge a perceived wrong. In this article, some of the incorrect stereotypes associated with assassins or near lethal approachers who direct their activities against prominent public officials and public figures, and how these stereotypes can create blind spots in a protective security policy. Blind spots in a Protective Security Policy Portraits of assassins are fixed in the American mind as the deranged madman, the lonely loser obsessed with his target, the political killer following threats with violence. Dedman (1998) shows that half of the assassins has mental illness symptoms, where many shifted from one target to another, valuing the act more than the victim. Not one had communicated a direct threat to the target or to law enforcement authorities. These parts can be broken down into three steps. These steps are, the set up, the approach, and the release. Those of you who have been to a bowling alley might have noticed that the flooring strips on the approach and lanes are very narrow and inefficient, however this is by design and meant to assist the bowler. My first instinct would be to hail a taxi or get on a train or subway and take it somewhere familiar to me. What if you had no money, then what would you do? I don t know what I would do. You can t take public transportation without money, but you should be able to. Even if you weren t lost, and you had somewhere to go, what would you do? So many people are unable to afford public transportation, that they are just not able to get around, and get to where they need to go, like to work or to an event. If public transportation were to be made free, people who can t afford a train ticket would now be able to get around. In the 1950s, African Americans were discriminated against; They were not able to to ride in the front of the bus and had to give up their seat for a white person. For example, Rosa Parks sparked much debate and controversy when she refused to give her seat up for a white person. This led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott, when blacks refused to ride public busses at all. Now, Social Justice advocate, Tyler Falk states: While African Americans are no longer required ... Once that was mostly established, many, like Pierre Abelard went on to think about how or why people sin. Do people sin by choice or are people completely helpless when it comes to resisting temptation. Abelard thought believed that sin is subjective. Sin is inside us all and, and although we choose to give into sinful desires, it is through divine grace that we seek out the love of Jesus. It is not the sin itself but the intention in the heart of the person committing an act that could be considered sin under certain circumstances. If a person kills another person, it is not the act of killing that is a sin but the intent behind the killing. If the killing was an accident or self defense it is different from maliciously committing murder, or intending to kill another person. St. Francis of Assisi would say that sin is objective: the act of sin without knowingly or deliberately committing the sin. Intention has no part in whether or not an act is considered. Sin is sin regardless of intent. With the legacy of St. Francis ministry, the order called The friars , it seems that St. Francis was more concerned with good works as a means of salvation. However, works would mean nothing if there was not good intent behind them. Dietrich Bonhoeffer believes we are not judged by our works, but are saved by grace. He plays chess with the elephant, runs races with the tortoise, sits with the penguin, always gives his handkerchief to the rhinoceros, and reads to the owl. Then, one day the zookeeper gets sick and he is not able to go to the zoo to his friends. So, his friends left the zoo on the number five bus and visited his best friend at home to make him feel better. A Sick day for Amos McGee won the Caldecott Medal in 2011 for the illustrations that were done by Erin E. Stead, who is the wife of the author, Philip C. Stead. She is right, every picture book that a person picks up, buys, or checks out is a piece of art because all picture book illustrations are different and unique. Illustrations in pictures are meant to make the use of the book for entertainment. The illustrations that Erin C. Atticus Finch Thoughtless Crowd In a society where everyone is competing with each other, you would assume someone with good intentions and logical views is more powerful than a crowd of thoughtless people. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, this hypothesis was put to the test when Atticus Finch, a logical, unbiased lawyer, was given the task of testifying for an alleged rape case to a young girl named Mayella Ewell that was committed by a hard working black man named Tom Robinson. As a novel set in the early 1930s, most people in Maycomb County, a district in Alabama, were prejudiced towards black people. Even worse, seemingly all of the people on the jury were prejudiced, a thoughtless crowd . While the logical person should be more powerful, this is unfortunately not the case because logic cannot change the views of thoughtless people, those with an unclear conscience have prejudices that can overpower, and quantity overrules quality. I quietly close the bedroom door behind me. I descend down the steps, awaiting me is a zealous black dachshund. She shakes her body happily and runs towards the door, her nails clicking on the wood floor along the way. I try to open the frosting glass door, but the compacted snowwas hindering the glass. With a burst of strength, the door opens and the cold and angry air slaps my face. Hopping out the front door, my dachshund lands in a pile of snow and pushes the snow in the house. I close the door quickly, to see my grandmother sitting at the old wooden kitchen table. She smiles as my mother walks in. My mom comes over with a bright yellow box of pancake mix in her hand and kisses the top of my head. She sets the yellow box down to check on the sizzling bacon, and I walk over to my content grandmother. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
